The 20-year-old Nigeria international has scored seven goals this season, but has found first-team chances harder to come by than during his debut campaign.<br />

In spite of only five English Premier League starts this season, Iheanacho welcomes the extra competition and insists he is improving by playing alongside great players.<br />

“I cannot pretend that I don’t hear what people back home [in Nigeria] say about my lack of regular football, but I will continue to fight,” Iheanacho said on Saturday. “I don’t worry about those comments. All I need to do is to keep working, keep doing well and keep improving every day.<br />
<br />
“Sergio Aguero and Gabriel [Jesus] are really really great players that we need in our team. “As a young player, I’m happy playing alongside these fantastic players because I learn and get better every day. “It’s a big thing for my career to compete with these players. I’m okay with the way things are going and I wish Gabriel a quick recovery to return and help the team.” Iheanacho scored 14 times and produced seven assists last season even though 25 of his 36 appearances were as a substitute.<br />

That feat saw him finish as City’s third-highest scorer in all competitions, behind Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne. At international level, Iheanacho has scored five goals in eight appearances for Nigeria since making his senior debut against Swaziland in November 2015. He starred as Nigeria won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates for a record fourth-time. He emerged as the tournament’s outstanding player, being voted the Most Valuable Player. Iheanacho scored six goals to secure the Silver Boot as the competition’s second-highest goal-scorer.

Two armed men operating on a motorcycle on Saturday shot dead a police inspector in Ogidi, near Onitsha in Anambra, police authorities have confirmed.<br />

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogidi Police Station, Mr Hassan Musa, who confirmed the incident, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the hoodlums collected the AK47 riffle the deceased was carrying.<br />
<br />
He said that the incident occurred at about 2.45 p.m. at a police road block near Ugwunwasike Roundabout in Ogidi, where a police team was conducting “stop and search”.<br />
<br />
An eyewitness had told NAN that the armed men took the policeman unawares as they rode straight and shot him at a close range while he was flagging down a vehicle for a search.<br />
<br />
“Other policemen who were with him took cover on hearing the gun shots while the armed men escaped,” the source said.<br />
<br />
NAN gathered that the incident, which happened within minutes, caused people in the vicinity, including motorists and commuters, to abandon their vehicle and scamper for safety.<br />
<br />
The DPO said that the remains of the late inspector had been deposited at Iyi-Enu Hospital’s mortuary.<br />
<br />
He said that the police had commenced investigation into the incident. (NAN)

The Presidential committee to investigate corruption allegations against the two suspended officials of the Buhari administration says it will conduct its work in camera.<br />

A statement by the Vice President’s Spokesman, Mr Laolu Akande, on Saturday in Abuja said that the camera sitting of the committee would enable all parties in the matter to make full disclosures.<br />
<br />
President Muhammadu Buhari had named Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to head the panel to investigate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke.<br />
<br />
Lawal was accused of legal and due process violations in the award of contracts to companies handling the resettlement programmes in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the North-East.<br />
<br />
Oke was also accused of transgressions in the discovery of large amounts in foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.<br />
<br />
“In the discharge of its work, the panel is expected to invite all relevant officials and private individuals who may be connected to both cases.<br />
<br />
“It will also obtain and scrutinize documents that may throw some light on the issues raised in both cases.<br />
<br />
“All its proceedings will, however, be in closed sessions to avoid speculations, allow for full disclosure and enhance the pace of proceedings,’’ the statement said.<br />
<br />
It said that the committee had begun its work in earnest to be able to meet the two weeks deadline given to it by Buhari.<br />
<br />
According to the statement, the panel will conduct its work with utmost diligence and without fear or favour.<br />
<br />
In the three-member committee with Osinbajo are the Attorney-General and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami and National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Munguno (retd).

Buhari said this on Saturday in his condolences delivered by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambassau, to the family of a prominent Kano State businessman Alhaji Audu Adahama as well as the government and the people of the state.<br />

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu,who accompanied the minister, said Buhari thanked the people of the state for their profuse prayers and good wishes in the period he was away for treatment in London.<br />

Shehu quoted the president as saying: "Allah has accepted your prayers and we are thankful to you for joining other Nigerians in saying those prayers for me and the nation. On behalf of my family, the government and the people of the entire country,please accept our heartfelt condolences."<br />
<br />
President Buhari, according to Shehu, described the death of the ex-customs officer and community leader as a painful loss.<br />
<br />
Buhari affirmed that Adahama lived a worthy life having fully paid his dues to his community, the Customs which he served "with diligence and the country as a loyal and dutiful citizen."<br />
<br />
Responding, a family member and former chairman of the Kano Chamber of Commerce,Alhaji Saidu Dattijo Adahama, thanked Buhari for his interest in the wellbeing of the family and the people of the state in general.<br />
<br />
He assured that Kano State would always be in support of President Buhari.<br />
<br />
The Late Adahama, 78, was survived by four children, including the Special Assistant to the President on Youths Matters, Nasiru Adahama.

Five people have been arrested by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for various alleged registration infractions in the ongoing 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).<br />

The suspected fraudsters were arrested in Oyo, Ogun and Borno States by officers and men of the NSCDC and brought to Abuja where they are being interrogated. In the presence of the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Abdullahi Gana Mohamadu, the suspects reportedly confessed to numerous registration irregularities.<br />
<br />
Some of the suspects are Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres owners licensed by JAMB to conduct registration exercise for candidates planning to take the forthcoming examination, a statement by JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said.<br />
<br />
Mr. Benjamin added, “More worrisome is the massive investment by E- Kindle CBT centres to penetrate the airtel system we are using to perpetrate all forms of wholesome practices. They register candidates without proper biometric which means such candidates will have problems with their details during examination if not corrected immediately.<br />
<br />
“From investigation at the headquarters of the NSCDC, it was clear that they had powerful men backing them to thwart the efforts of JAMB. If not, how will you justify them spending over N20 million to construct a radio platform just to hack into the Board’s registration exercise if not to destroy the entire system and put JAMB in bad light?<br />
<br />
“Some of the location from which these criminal elements were operating include Oyo state, Ogun state and Kwara.<br />
<br />
“JAMB had given access code only to accredited CBT centres to partake in the registration exercise but these operators in turn used the privilege information at their disposal in connivance with Honey comb centre and Bright international for pecuniary motive and create confusion for the examination body as procedures,guidelines and standards were compromised.<br />
<br />
“In Maiduguri, the Board discovered that their router meant for Abia was being used in Maiduguri to register candidates<br />
<br />
“Unknown to them, the access codes are personalised coupled with features to detect abuses aimed at circumventing the registration process. They fradulently tried to manipulate the system to give a semblance of the Board platform to deceive candidates as if a valid registration have been carried out.<br />
“These registration thieves deployed fake biometric capturing mechanisms and super-imposed registration slip just to satisfy the curiosity of innocent candidates that their registration was successful and on the day of examination such candidates data would either be edited,or not found on the JAMB data base, such candidates would not be verified during the examination proper.<br />
<br />
“This investigation has clearly shown that the Board under Prof. Is-haq Oloyede may be in for a bigger fight given his stand on anti-corruption.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai said the lessons he learnt from the Bangladesh National Defence while on course had been very useful in the counter insurgency operations in the North-East.<br />

Buratai made this known in Lagos, on Saturday when he received the Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Abu Shafiul Huq.<br />
<br />
According to him, the lessons are partly responsible for the success being recorded in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.<br />
<br />
“The Bangladesh experience in counter insurgency is something that I brought to bear in the efforts to rid Nigeria of Boko Haram since my appointment as the Chief of army staff,” he said.<br />
<br />
According to him, he attended the Bangladesh National Defence course in 2008.<br />
<br />
He urged military around the world to take the issue of insurgency and terrorism seriously because they were difficult battle to overcome.<br />
<br />
“Counter insurgency should be utmost importance to army across the world, the army in particular bears the brunt as they confront terrorists in very difficult terrain and indeed, sometimes within the population.<br />
<br />
“It is a very, very difficult experience and it will continue to be difficult but it – insurgency can be countered through the use of intelligence.<br />
<br />
“Counter insurgency is at best an intelligence operation,” he said.<br />
<br />
Earlier, Huq commended the Nigerian army for the success it had recorded in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.<br />
<br />
He said both his country and Nigeria had a lot of experience and knowledge to share in counter insurgency operations.<br />
<br />
Huq said his visit was to explore ways both countries could further strengthen their relationship.<br />
<br />
The Bangladesh army chief is to visit the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin in Abuja and some military formation while on a five-day visit to Nigeria, NAN reports.

Residents of Akure, Ondo State capital, have been sighted scooping fuel from a fallen petrol tanker.<br />

The incident happened on Saturday morning as the tanker negotiated a bend.<br />

The 33,000-litre petrol tanker fell and spilled its content as it attempted to negotiate the Isinkan Roundabout in Akure.<br />

The driver of the tanker was said to be on his way to supply an NNPC petrol station in Akure when the accident occurred.<br />

Officers of the Fire Service were said to have arrived early enough to take care of the situation.<br />

Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the accident happened at about 7 am, as the driver sought to negotiate a bend.<br />
<br />
An eyewitness, Blessing Olowolawi, was said to have explained that the tanker driver fled the scene immediately the accident occured.<br />
<br />
Olowolawi told the online medium that the incident caused a traffic gridlock on the road that connects Arakale, a major street, to Oba Adesida Market.<br />
<br />
“Vehicular movement was impeded immediately after the incident. And many residents used the opportunity to steal fuel from the truck,” she said.<br />
<br />
The medium reports that the Ondo State Police Command monitored the situation in order to prevent breakdown of law and order.

The Adamawa State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA ) has confirmed the arrest and successful prosecution of a notorious cocaine dealer, Ahmed Buba, popularly known as ” Ajebo”.<br />

Mr. Buba was nabbed with 13.9 grams of cracked cocaine.<br />

Yakubu Kibo, the state commander of the agency, confirmed the development to journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.<br />
<br />
Mr. Kibo described the arrest as first of its kind in the history of cocaine seizures in the state, saying the drug kingpin, after his arrest, was charged to the Federal High Court, Yola, on April 12, 2017.<br />
He was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment without the option of fine, the NDLEA official said.<br />
<br />
He said the agency conducted intensive laboratory test and that the substance found with Mr. Buba, was confirmed to be cocaine mixed with Soda Bicarbonate.<br />
<br />
Mr. Kibo said the drug dealer was arrested in Yola town, in front of Modibbo Adama University of Technology Distance Learning Centre with the illicit drug concealed in a car brain box.<br />
<br />
He said his agency trailed the kingpin for six months following intelligence report on his activities.<br />
<br />
<br />
He said after thorough investigation and search of his home at Wuro-Chekke ward in Yola South Local Government area , the kingpin admitted to have been in the illicit business for the past two years.<br />
<br />
He described Mr. Buba, 37, as the main source of cocaine supply to many higher institutions of learning in the state.<br />
<br />
The commander said the kingpin had wasted the lives of many innocent youth in the state who he said became addicted to cocaine.<br />
<br />
“Ahmed Buba has confirmed to the command that the source of his cocaine is from Abuja,” Mr. Kibo said.<br />
<br />
He said drugs cartels were now using vehicles spare parts popularly known as ” Belgium” to avoid being detected at security check points.<br />

He warned that the command would not relent in its efforts of ridding the state of hard drugs.

“We want to appeal to the police authority to replicate the collaborative efforts employed in overcoming the Boko Haram menace in battling herdsmen crisis as well as the recent spate of kidnapping in the country.<br />

“The economy of this country can only improve in an atmosphere that is peaceful for businesses and living. We cannot do businesses in an insecure environment. Similarly, we will be scaring investors away when the environment is not peaceful.”<br />

The DIG earlier in his remarks commended the governor for sustaining the peaceful environment he enthroned on assumption of office in 2011.<br />
<br />
He said he was touring the Southwest to assess the level of security and to interact with the stakeholders on the state of affairs.<br />
<br />
The police boss added that the meetings were also aimed at discussing mutual efforts required to bolster security situation within the zone.<br />
<br />
“Oyo is one of the states the Inspector-General of Police (Ibrahim Idris) loves because of its peculiar peaceful atmosphere.<br />
He directed all DIGs to visit all their zones within two weeks to have on-the-spot assessment of security situations in each state.<br />
<br />
“I have met with security stakeholders in the state like the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC), Eminent People’s Forum, and traditional institution, among others to discuss how to maintain the current peaceful atmosphere in Oyo State.<br />
<br />
“On our part, we will continue to discharge our responsibilities with strict adherence to the sanctity of human rights. We have warned our men that any police officer found to have used his weapons to kill or maim innocent citizens would be tried within 48 hours of such incident.”<br />
<br />
He added that adequate policing was a joint responsibility of the security agencies and the entire citizenry, appealing to members of the society to contribute their quota towards the attainment of peaceful coexistence of all.

16 members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Thursday, escaped death while returning from Asaba, the Delta State capital to Ughelli where they had gone to participate in the State NUJ election.<br />

The journalists made up of two females and 14 males, narrowly escaped death when the front tire of the vehicle they were travelling on burst on motion.<br />

Following the uproar that trailed the voters register that was to be used for the election, resulting to the setting up of a 5-man Caretaker Committee for the union, the journalists whom had arrived Asaba as early as 10a.m, where returning to their base at Ughelli when the incident occurred.<br />

Recounting the ordeal to Vanguard, one of the passengers, Joel Orerome of The Authority Newspaper, stated that, the driver of the bus was on an average of 120kilometer when they heard the sound of the burst tire.<br />

“He (driver) initially stepped on the break but was cautioned not to do so, but through the Grace of God, he was able to maneuver and bring the bus to a stop by the side of the road.”<br />

The operatives of the Department of State Service has raided the office of National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Abuja, following the refusal of the former Director-General of the commission, Mrs Chinelo Anohu- Amazu, to hand over to her successor, after her sacking on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br />

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 Governorship election in Niger state, Alhaji Liman Kantigi has denied ownership of the N2 billion in a United Bank for Africa (UBA) account linked to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<br />

According to Kantigi, he is not aware of the said account traced to a company account titled Liman and companies in UBA stating that he is neither a Director nor a Stakeholder in the company.<br />

“For God sake, the media ought to have confirmed from the banks if truly my names are there as their customer? I am not a Director of such companies nor shareholder. ”<br />
<br />
In a statement made available to The Nation in Minna, Kantigi also denied allegations that he has been evading the EFCC regarding the linked account adding that some group of people have decided to use the media to smear his character as a businessman and politician.<br />
<br />
“I acknowledge the fact that the EFCC has the constitutional right to investigate anybody they suspect, it is, however not true that I have been evading the commission. My lawyers are in touch with the EFCC and the commission is aware of this, so it is not true that I am evading the commission.<br />
<br />
“I want to categorically state that the claim that another N2 billion in a UBA account reportedly linked to me is untrue and figment of some people's imagination who want to use the media to drag my name to the mud.<br />
<br />
“I was Chairman of my Local Government with outstanding performances and an Honourable Commissioner for seven months. How could I have siphoned such amount and pushed to companies as an individual from the government agency as claimed by the medias?, ” he asked.<br />
<br />
Kantigi urged the media to confirm from the banks and fault him if he was lying adding that the media reports was being orchestrated by people who would want to spoil his name and associate his name with anything bad by all means.<br />
<br />
Kantigi appealed to his supporters to disregard all the news trending about him in the media stressing that they are false and unfounded and urge the media to cross their facts very well before rushing to the public.

Ibrahimovic has scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for United, since arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.<br />

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside on his election as the new Chairman of the Association of African Maritime Administrators (AAMA).<br />

The president’s congratulatory message was issued in a statement by Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Saturday in Abuja.<br />

Buhari said: “Peterside’s unanimous election is not only a personal honour and affirmation of confidence in his ability to lead AAMA, but also places Nigeria in a pivotal position to rally other maritime administrations in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) toward safer global maritime activities.’’<br />

He acknowledged NIMASA’s encouraging performance under Peterside, especially in the fight against sea piracy through inter-agency cooperation.<br />
<br />
According to the president, Peterside’s new position provides him with an even bigger platform to forge ahead in doing the nation proud by meeting the objectives of AAMA.<br />
<br />
While wishing the new Chairman of AAMA successful one-year tenure, he expressed confidence that within this period, the Federal Government’s renewed focus on growing the Nigerian economy through increased maritime resources would be further enhanced.<br />

Dakuku Peterside emerged chairman of AAMA at the end of the 3rd Annual Conference of the continental organisation in Abuja on Friday.<br />

Peterside took over the chairmanship position from Sobantu Tilayi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of South African Maritime and Safety Agency (SAMSA), who has been the acting Chair of the association since 2013.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara has urged the state government to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of soccer fans in Calabar.<br />

The speaker expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident which led to the death of football fans in a viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River.<br />
<br />
A statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Turaki Hassan, Dogara called for a probe of the incident with a view to holding responsible anyone found wanting.<br />
<br />
The speaker condoned with both the families of those who lost their lives and the survivals of incident who were still receiving treatment.<br />
<br />
“My heart goes out to the families of football fans who died in the incident at the viewing centre.<br />
<br />
“At this moment, my thoughts and prayers are with the affected families, survivors, the government and good people of Cross River state following this sad incident.<br />
<br />
“It is my ardent hope that survivors are receiving adequate care, and the state government is taking the necessary steps to avoid a recurrence of such a sad incident,” he said.<br />
<br />
He prayed God to comfort all the families who had been thrown into mourning and to grant the souls of the dearly departed perfect peace.<br />
<br />
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that no fewer than 30 soccer lovers had lost their lives in a viewing center in Cross Rivers on April 20.<br />
<br />
The soccer fans were electrocuted on Thursday night after a high tension electric pole fell on the building while watching the UEFA Europa League quarter-final match between Manchester United and Anderlecht.

Former Nigeria captain, Austin  Okocha, has advised his nephew, Alex Iwobi, to stay and fight for a first-team place at Arsenal rather than leaving on loan.<br />

After regularly starting games earlier in the season, Iwobi, 20, has found opportunities harder to come by in 2017.<br />

Recently, he featured for Arsenal's U-23s who beat Reading 5-2.<br />

Reacting to Iwobi's present situation at Arsenal, Okocha thinks staying at Arsenal would benefit the young forward.<br />
<br />
"We can't forget that this is his first full season in the first team, and Arsenal have all their players back now. There's a lot of competition, so it's not easy," Okocha told Sky Sports.<br />
<br />
"He has had a good season. It's not easy to make it through from the academy into the first team at such a big club. He has achieved this, and has been phenomenal; I am delighted with what he has achieved so far.<br />
<br />
"I think it's better for him to stay at Arsenal, because the style of play suits him perfectly. It might not be easy for him to go on loan and adapt somewhere else. He needs to stay and fight for his shirt."<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Okocha will be one of a host of former Premier League stars that will compete at Star Sixes, an indoor six-a-side tournament in July 2017.<br />
<br />
Other former EPL players expected to participate include Steven Gerrard, Carles Puyol, Michael Ballack, Deco and Robert Pires.<br />

Speaking about the event, Okocha said: "I'm very excited for it. I think I will be in my comfort zone.<br />

"Everybody is looking forward to showing that we can still play a little bit. There are a lot of good players and it will be interesting.<br />

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose on Thursday made good his promise to make N10m available for Beer, Foods and Drinks Sellers Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State Chapter.<br />

Fayose had on 31st January, 2017 during the Association's Exco Inauguration in Ado-Ekiti promised to improve members' business with #10m revolving loan that will benefit members across the 16LGAs.<br />

While presenting cheques to the over 500 beneficiaries who came from across the 16 Local Government Areas at the Government House in Ado on Thursday, Governor Fayose said the gesture was in fulfilment of his promise to them during their inauguration.<br />

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 Governorship election in Niger state, Alhaji Liman Kantigi has denied ownership of the N2 billion in a United Bank for Africa (UBA) account linked to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<br />

According to Kantigi, he is not aware of the said account traced to a company account titled Liman and companies in UBA stating that he is neither a Director nor a Stakeholder in the company.<br />

“For God sake, the media ought to have confirm from the banks if truly my names are there as their customer? I am not a Director of such companies nor Share holder. ”<br />
<br />
In a statement made available to The Nation in Minna, Kantigi also denied allegations that he has been evading the EFCC regarding the linked account adding that some group of people have decided to use the media to smear his character as a businessman and politician.<br />
“I acknowledge the fact that the EFCC has the constitutional right to investigate anybody they suspect, it is, however not true that I have been evading the commission. My lawyers are in touch with the EFCC and the commission is aware of this, so it is not true that I am evading the commission.<br />
<br />
“I want to categorically state that the claim that another N2 billion in a UBA account reportedly linked to me is untrue and figment of some peoples imagination who want to use the media to drag my name to the mud.<br />
“I was Chairman of my Local Government with outstanding performances and a Honourable Commissioner for seven months. How could I have siphoned such amount and pushed to companies as an individual from the government agency as claimed by the medias?, ” he asked.<br />
Kantigi urged the media to confirm from the banks and fault him if he was lying adding that the media reports was being orchestrated by people who would want to spoil his name and associate his name with anything bad by all means.<br />
<br />
Kantigi appealed to his supporters to disregard all the news trending about him in the media stressing that they are false and unfounded and urge the media to cross their facts very well before rushing to the public.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the World Bank/IMF meetings in Washington, the minister said she met rating agencies, who also confirm a general consensus of a statable outlook for Nigeria.<br />

“The rating agencies outlook on Nigeria is stable, there is a  generally, I think the essence is to get their views. There is general consensus that Nigerian economy will grow in 2017,” Adeosun said.<br />
<br />
“The point is that what do to sustain that growth is to ensure that it translates to good life for our people (the masses), how do we translate money spent on infrastructure into jobs. That is the next level.”<br />

Adeosun said her work at the IMF meetings in 2016 were on setting a foundation for growth, but now the focus is on making jobs available for the man on the street.<br />

“Last year was really around preparation; you know how to get our road going, the rail, the power and now it is about how does that translate to the man on the street getting a job.<br />

“And when we leave here now we are going to look on how to implement what we discussed agriculture inclusive.<br />

More than 100 Afghan soldiers were killed or wounded in a Taliban attack on an army base on Friday, the defence ministry has confirmed.<br />

Insurgents targeted those leaving Friday prayers at the base’s mosque and others in a canteen, the army said.<br />

The Taliban said in a statement they had carried out the attack, using suicide bombers to breach defences.<br />
<br />
Earlier estimates put the death toll as high as 134, but a statement from the defence ministry on Saturday gave a figure of about 100 killed or injured.<br />
<br />
At least 10 Taliban militants were killed in the fighting and one attacker was detained.<br />
<br />
The Taliban fighters wore army uniforms and drove through military checkpoints before launching the raid, a military spokesman said.<br />
<br />
United States military spokesman, John Thomas, described the attack as a “significant” strike, but he praised the Afghan commandos for bringing the “atrocity to an end.”<br />
<br />
The base at Mazar-e-Sharif is home to the Afghan National Army’s 209th Corps, responsible for providing security to most of northern Afghanistan, including Kunduz province – which has seen heavy recent fighting.

According to his personal assistant, Bakare died in the early hours of Saturday.<br />

Actor Saidi Balogun confirmed it in a tweet on his twitter handle, @saidibalogun. He said the veteran actor was gone too soon.<br />

According to reports, he died on his way to the hospital.<br />

On February 16, reports have it that the Veteran actor was critically ill and currently on admission at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State.<br />
<br />
It said his medical condition was not improving due to a heart and lung related illness diagnosed by medical experts, adding that he was in need of financial aid to cater for his worsening health.<br />
<br />
It was gathered Olumide Bakare needed about N30,000 daily for diagnosis after having spent over a million naira on medical expenses.<br />
