President Barack Obama and Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz are currently in a war of words over suggestions by the former to admit christian Syrian refugees, while the door would shut to Muslim Syrian refugees.<br />
<br />
Obama said during a news conference on Monday at the G20 summit, saying it was "shameful" to suggest a "religious test" for refugees from the Middle East.<br />
<br />
Obama didn't mention Cruz by name, but his remarks came after the GOPer said Muslim refugees from Syria should be barred from coming to the United States but that Christians should be admitted.<br />
<br />
“When I hear folks say that well maybe we should just admit the Christians but not the Muslims, when I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which a person who is fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted, when some of those folks themselves come from families who benefited from protection when they were fleeing political persecution, that’s shameful,” Obama said. “That’s not American. That’s not who we are.”<br />

<u>Ted Cruz hits back at Obama: 'Come Back And Insult Me To My Face'</u><br />
<br />
Sen. Ted Cruz  responded to Obama's criticism of Republicans suggesting there be a religious test for Syrian refugees seeking entrance to the country, a plan he called "shameful" and "not American" while in Turkey for the Group of 20 summit.<br />
<br />
"If you want to insult me, you can do it overseas, you can do it in Turkey, you can do it in foreign countries. But I would encourage you, Mr. President, come back and insult me to my face," Cruz said, staring directly into the camera.<br />
<br />
Cruz got even more schoolyard, challenging the President to a debate any place, any time.<br />
<br />
"Let's have a debate on Syrian refugees, right now. We can do it anywhere you want. I would prefer it in the United States and not overseas," the Republican presidential candidate said. "We'll do it on any station."<br />
<br />
Cruz also called Obama's remarks "utterly unfitting of a President."<br />

Last December, an Al Jazeera network investigation examined shocking claims that the government of Kenya has been running secret police death squads, tasked with assassinating suspected terrorists and criminals. At the time the Kenyan government strongly refuted the allegations but reports and rumours in Kenya about extra judicial killings have continued to proliferate.<br />

Ten months on, People and Power asked Mohammed Ali, one of Kenya’s top independent investigative journalists, to find out why.<br />
<br />
In Killing Kenya, last night’s deeply worrying film, Ali discovers that mysterious killings are indeed continuing, amid an apparent culture of impunity that has left the Kenyan security forces open to suspicions that they are unaccountable and seemingly out of control.<br />
<br />
In the capital Nairobi alone last year, the police killed 127 Kenyans. That’s a fatal shooting every three days. Over 1,500 Kenyan citizens have been killed by the police since 2009 and statistically Kenyans are currently five times more likely to be shot by a policeman than a criminal.<br />
<br />
In the aftermath of almost every one of these episodes, the police account has been the same: the dead men were armed, dangerous and in the process of attacking the public or officers of the law. In other words, the use of lethal force by the police is routinely justified either as self-defence or as having been necessary to protect the Kenyan public from grievous harm.<br />
<br />
But Ali hears from the Independent Medico-Legal Unit, a group of leading Kenyan pathologists dedicated to investigating human rights abuses. It has found that the evidence held in medical records, witness statements and even the police’s own accounts show that only 10 percent of these shootings actually came in a bid to preserve life. As many as three quarters of police shootings in Kenya, say critics, could instead be classified as something more sinister; as possible summary executions, where a person accused of a crime is killed on apprehension or instead of arrest without benefit of a full and fair trial.<br />
<br />
Even the Kenyan Army, seen by most Kenyans as less corrupt and more trustworthy than the police, is now allegedly implicated in the torture and forced disappearance of terror suspects in the country’s north Eastern region.<br />
<br />
That Kenya faces serious challenges from crime and terrorism is without question. The Kenyan public, shocked and appalled by these various threats to their peace and stability, have demanded action; the government has repeatedly expressed its willingness to stand firm in the face of those threats and forcibly respond. But can that ever justify abandoning the rule of law, setting aside due process and meeting violence with more extreme violence?<br />
<br />
"It’s not as though the strategy is especially effective –except perhaps in encouraging more violence in return,” says Ali. "From the Muslim community in Mombasa to the marginalised youths of the sprawling Nairobi slums such as Korogocho or Kibera, we heard time and time again that government actions are creating a them and us culture; a breeding ground for endemic violence between economically or politically or religiously disenfranchised communities, who feel they are outside the law and therefore have no path left open other than to pick up a gun against a hostile state which seems set on engaging them in battle."<br />
<br />
Al Jazeera took the claims in the documentary to the highest levels of the Kenyan police in Nairobi seeking a response. "We asked repeatedly in person and in writing for an interview with the Inspector General of the Kenyan National Police,” says Ali. "We set out all our allegations and offered the organisation a chance to give us a statement. We said we wished 'in the interests of fairness and accuracy’ to hear the police’s side of the story, to incorporate any official reply into our film. Our requests went unanswered. And maybe that’s the problem with a culture of impunity; those who have no reason to fear legal sanction or discipline feel no real compunction to explain their actions. But the questions for Kenya’s police forces won’t go away. They will merely become more pressing as the death toll mounts."

A Channels TV cameraman captured a major blunder by a female anchor on live television involving their news broadcast. They were covering the Jos building collapse, but midway through the coverage, they returned on air without prompting the anchors. And in that moment, on live TV, the female anchor was captured blowing her male colleague a kiss.<br />

The apparently shocked news presenter had to keep her compose to continue the news.<br />

Buhari who departed Nigeria for France on Monday, during an exclusive interview with France 24 tv François Picard, on Wednesday, however, said he intends to stick with his decision to name his cabinet before the end of the month, but however, opined that ministers are only there to “make a lot of noise.”<br />
<br />
Asked if the absence of a Minister of Finance was affecting the Nigerian capital market and economy, Buhari said: “No. It is what we know –and which we learnt from the western system. The civil service provides the continuity, the technocrat. And in any case, they are those that do most of the work.<br />
<br />
“The ministers are there, I think, to make a lot of noise; for the politicians to make a lot of noise. But the work is being done by the technocrats. They are there; they have to provide the continuity, dig into the records and then guide us, [those of us] who are just coming in.<br />
<br />
“They have been there, some of them for 15 years, some for 20 years. So I think this question of ministers is political. People from different constituencies want to see their people directly in government, and see what they can get out of it.<br />
<br />
“As for the cabinet, I said we will have one by the end of the month, and time flies. The end of the month is coming too quickly for my liking.<br />
<br />
“Yeah, I will stick to it. I will send the names to the national assembly.”<br />
<br />
Reminded by Picard that “some have quipped that the country runs better without ministers”, the President said: “When you started introducing me, you said I was around 1983 to 1985. Even then we had ministers. So under this system, we have to have ministers; and we are going to have ministers.”<br />

9. I was convinced in December 1991 when the Soviet union collapsed, that multi-party democratic system is the best form of government, otherwise it will be the same old problem.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<br />

Some reporters had approached the former President for details of the meeting but he snubbed the journalists that approached him.<br />

“No, No, joor”, he said in Yoruba dialect.<br />

President Buhari had on August 21 named the former President as his Special Envoy to mediate and help find a solution to the crisis brewing in Guinea Bissau.<br />
<br />
The meeting came on the same day the Senate started a probe of the Nigerian Power Sector, covering the regimes of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umaru Yar’adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.<br />
