I’m going to let you know first. And I’m proud of it because I’ve never felt more confident. I don’t want a 20-year-old girl who is out there who hasn’t won a Grammy or who hasn’t been signed (to a record label) to feel like it is never going to happen. All you have to do is look at me.”</p> <p>The mother of one also confessed that she was under pressure while working on her last album, ‘Celia’. “I literally started at the beginning of the year. I took out about a month. I did not listen to anything. I had a camp in Nigeria; I rented out about nine rooms. I didn’t even see my family. I was there every day. I also worked from pain. I was under pressure. I was about to turn 40 and I was scared and nervous. I was just signed to Universal Music. I wasn’t with Mavin anymore. There was so much that was happening in my life and I was coming from a very scared place when I worked on the album. However, I decided I was going to do it, even though I was scared. If it became a success, which it has become for me, I believe it could be a motivation for other women that whatever they are going through, they just have to work with the fear; work through it,” she said.</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>Expressing her delight at working with American singer, Beyonce, on the ‘Lion King’ album, Savage said, “To have someone like that co-sign a lot of artistes and use her platform, definitely (it was wonderful). I feel like it opened me up to some people who probably didn’t know who Tiwa Savage was until they listened to that project. Absolutely, there’s no denying it. She’s Beyonce, it’s huge. And ‘Lion King’ is a huge project. I grew up watching it and my son still watches it. It’s just one of those timeless films.”</p>

We can also confirm eleven deaths so far out of which, eight have their names identified and three yet to be named,” the statement added.</p> <p>The group further gave some of the names of the slain civilians as Pastor Igwe, Queen Nwazuo, Okoro Peter and Chinwendu O; adding that these people “were shot at close range and killed instantly by soldiers on 24th October 2020 few meters away from Governor Wike’s convoy.”</p> <p>The statement explained that Governor Wike was visiting the Local Government Area to assess his military deployment and curfew same day when two young residents barely emerged from their houses to hear what the Governor has come to tell them but soldiers opened fire on them, killing them instantly.</p> <p>“They were shot on their forehead, forcing the brain-box of late Chinwendu to burst and emptied at the center of the road,” the group said.</p> <p>It further listed other slain residents as Jude Egejuru, Clifford Nkemdilim, Miss Ngozi Ozuo, Udeme Ossy Monday, among many others.</p> <p>“It must be noted that soldiers took away bodies of most of those killed,” the Intersociety said.</p>

They warned that allowing more paramilitary arms access to weapons might cause problems.</p> <p>In mockery of authorities, some respondents said other traffic agencies like Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) should also get the nod to move about with rifles and pistols.</p> <p>Some gathered reactions below:</p> <p>@foluOgunseye: God! When will this brainlessness end? Guns to enforce traffic offenses? What! Instead of ensuring every vehicle is duly registered, then all you need do is pick an offenders plate number, you prefer that they shoot! So that they can have enough of them in case the masses want to rise up. Her working hours were between 1pm and 11pm everyday.”</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>Chinenye said her late sister sent her a WhatsApp message around 10.22pm on July 3, 2018 informing her she was going out with her colleagues in the office, Mr. Tobi and Mr. Arafat, to have drinks and also celebrate the conclusion of her NYSC scheme.</p> <p>She told the panel that she and her sister shared the same bed in their apartment and that she was shocked that at about 2am when she woke up to use the restroom, her sister who had her own key to their apartment, wasn’t yet home.</p> <p>“At about 4.35am, I got a distress call from unknown number and it was Mr. Bamidele Tobi asking me to come quickly to Garki Hospital that something happened on their way home from Ceddi Plaza. I got to the hospital and was informed that my sister was shot by Inspector Benjamin Peter.</p> <p>Mr. Tobi narrated that on their way home, while driving; he heard a loud sound, and thinking that it was his tyre.</p> <p>He said my late sister tapped him from the back seat that something hit her below her breast. He said when they (Mr. Tobi and Arafat) looked back; they say my sister panting and was drenched in her blood.</p> <p>He said when the realized that the sound they hard was that of gunshot and that my sister was hit by stray bullet, they drove straight to the nearest hospital, which was the Garki Hospital.”</p> <p>Chinenye said the hospital staff did not attend to her sister timeously as they asked for many things at the same time, including blood and police report. She said while they were making efforts to get blood, the news that her sister eventually died was conveyed to her around 6am on July 4, 2018 by a female nurse in the hospital. At that point, Chineye broke down and wept.</p> <p>She said following the public outcry, the then-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, intervened and set up a five man investigation panel. Chineye said when Inspector Peter appeared before the panel, he claimed that they were flagging them down, but they did not stop and they shot with the intention to deflate their tyres. </p> <p>She said nothing came out of the involvement of the panel set up by Saraki, adding “we got tired and gave up. Are we not under civil authorities? Are we not part of Nigerians? Have you forgotten that we did not go there (Lekki tollgate) on our own? </p> <p>“It is the state government that constituted that panel of inquiry. So, if anybody needs to get in touch with us to come, it is still the state, not the members,” Olaniyi had said.</p> <p>However, insider sources close to the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel on Thursday hinted that the army had acknowledged the panel’s invitation and the panel had fixed Saturday (November 7) for its appearance at the hearing taking place at the Lagos Court of Arbitration, Lekki.</p> <p>One of the sources close to the panel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Contrary to its earlier posture of resistance, the Nigerian Army seems to have bowed to pressure in respect of  the invitation  to appear  before the Lagos  panel on SARS. The Army will appear before the panel on Saturday.  That is the day the panel has fixed for the Army to appear.</p> <p>“You know the panel was set up with the approval of the National Executive Council and President Muhammadu Buhari has always assured Nigerians and indeed the international community of full cooperation with the panel, so the Army cannot afford to ignore the invitation from the panel duly signed by its chairperson, who is a judicial officer.</p> <p>“The whole world is watching us and all eyes are on the panel, especially in respect of the Lekki Tollgate. The Army is critical to the work of the panel and it will erode public confidence in the government if any of its institutions snubs the panel with impunity. After all, the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, so how can the army openly defy the Panel that its own Commander-in-Chief has endorsed?”</p>

Justice Solomon Olugbemi (Rtd), said the panel will not entertain cases of brutality that are already before a court.</p> <p>Olugbenle said “if your matter is already in court, wait for the court to make a decision.”</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>The Chairman also clarified that the panel is not a trial court as he urged lawyers not to use technicalities to delay sittings.</p> <p>While assuring that all relevant evidences will be accepted, Olugbemi said the panel will make appropriate recommendations in all petitions.</p> <p>He warned that no petitioner should be threatened by any person under any guise, adding that anyone who does so will be prosecuted.</p>

Ugwuanyi made the appeal when he visited the Senior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, to address and commiserate with the members of the Enugu State Police Command, over loss of lives of private citizens and security personnel, grievous bodily injuries as well as destruction of private and public properties including security infrastructure.</p> <p>The governor who described the mayhem unleashed by miscreants and hoodlums that hijacked the hitherto peaceful #EndSARS protests as “an unusual and challenging period for the Police Force” pointed out that it was needless and “an ill-wind that blew no one any good”. </p> <p>Gov. Ugwuanyi stated that his administration “in our sensitivity to the mood and pains of the society under our watch,” has set up an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to determine the loss of lives and other damages and has also taken time to inspect the various degrees and nature of damage arising from the hijacked protests.</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>He added that his administration earnestly awaits the recommendations of the panel, reiterating its commitment to implement same with a view to soothing the pains of the security personnel and private citizens who were victims of the mayhem.</p> <p>Noting that the psyche of the officers and men of the Police Force have been assaulted by the recent sad experience, the governor, who called for a minute’s silence for the deceased, expressed concern that “the self-evident low morale of the Police Force occasioned by the fallout of the #EndSARS protests has, in our judgment, increased the likelihood of crime in the state.</p> <p>“I therefore passionately implore you to fully renew your commitment to the provision of security of lives and property in the state, as was the case before the protests. The good people of Enugu State had, before now, enjoyed your excellent policing service and wish that you come fully on stream and return to all the security posts in the state”, he said.</p> <p>While thanking the people of Enugu State for their prayers, support and solidarity “in this challenging period”, Gov. Ugwuanyi equally urged them to renew their cooperation and partnership with the personnel of the security agencies to sustain the tempo of peace and good governance in the state.</p> <p>Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, expressed the deepest appreciation of the Command to Gov. Ugwuanyi for his humility, sense of responsibility, concern, care and love.</p> <p>Abdurrahman also commended the governor for finding it necessary and expedient, in spite of his tight schedule, to come and commiserate with the men and officers of the Command, over the unfortunate fallout of the #EndSARS protests.</p> <p>The CP maintained that the visit signified that “we are under a very comfortable hand and care”.</p> <p>He therefore urged the police officers to pray for the governor as well as extend “our love, dedication and patriotism to him to enable him comfortably discharge his responsibilities that God has placed on his shoulders”.</p>

Deployment has already started in parts of Kano, Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja.</p> <p>“Future phases of this metering initiative will help us fully meet the 6.5 million deficit of meters nationwide and will impact an estimated 30 million consumers. All meters under this programme will be sourced from local manufacturers and in-country stock, to create jobs.</p> <p>“We are committed to ending estimated billing in all forms in Nigeria, and ensuring that Nigerians pay only for the electricity they consume.”</p>

They include 50 ODIHR-deployed experts and observers, and 52 parliamentarians and staff from the OSCE PA.</p> <p>According to them, the elections were well managed despite the numerous challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic.</p> <p>Michael Georg Link, Special Co-ordinator and leader of the short-term OSCE observer mission, said in a statement on Thursday, “Nobody – no politician, no elected official – should limit the people’s right to vote.</p> <p>“Coming after such a highly dynamic campaign, making sure that every vote is counted is a fundamental obligation for all branches of government.</p> <p>“Baseless allegations of systematic deficiencies, notably by the incumbent President, including on election night, harm public trust in democratic institutions.”</p> <p>Kari Henriksen, Head of the OSCE PA delegation, added, “The right to vote and to have that vote counted is among the most fundamental principles of democracy.</p> <p>“While the United States has taken great strides toward expanding the franchise, concerns remain regarding universal adult suffrage.</p> <p>“Women’s participation in politics has also increased, but there should be greater attention paid to this. In the context of COVID-19 and the rise in mail-in voting, I am concerned about attempts to restrict the counting of legally cast ballots.”</p>

So there is a little problem there. We do not have any money to offer apart from this N30 billion,” he said.</p> <p>He also revealed that the government is looking into the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) proposed by ASUU as an alternative to the contentious the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS).</p> <p>He added that the Government will subject the platform to integrity test along the line.</p> <p>ASUU has been on strike since 23 of March demanding for more funding for universities and also fighting the implementation of the IPPIS.</p>

It is a lesson for every one of us and we must all work together to better the lots of the youths in this country,’’ Ogunwusi said.</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, sympathized with monarchs, businesses, and individuals over losses during the mayhem.</p> <p>The SFG told the traditional rulers that government awaits their recommendations for inclusion in plans and policies.</p> <p>Mustapha added that their closeness to the grassroots will help them proffer counsels that will reflect Nigerians’ desires and aspirations.</p> <p>“I urge you to include as part of your agenda for this meeting, discussions on the various challenges facing our nation and in particular, generate ideas and solutions to the consequences and lessons from the recent protests by the Nigerian youths”, he said.</p> <p>The Abuja meeting was attended by the Chairmen of 36 States Traditional Councils of Chiefs, including the Federal Capital Territory.</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZRPeJOnBLkDQnPwl4CtdyChgMjNphiGr5TmPtKKLjQVomdFhthyphenhyphen1kXIptt4fnBd7mxi8lFdOtC-DAKtUr7jbrgRZJQ5pkMxSUscBha8ETTmdCOus3m-qA2Ll_jZl8yjDjVTX9Sv6YdGs/s414/1BF9E61F-1F91-49E2-8DA2-236327F262FB.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="232" data-original-width="414" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZRPeJOnBLkDQnPwl4CtdyChgMjNphiGr5TmPtKKLjQVomdFhthyphenhyphen1kXIptt4fnBd7mxi8lFdOtC-DAKtUr7jbrgRZJQ5pkMxSUscBha8ETTmdCOus3m-qA2Ll_jZl8yjDjVTX9Sv6YdGs/w400-h224/1BF9E61F-1F91-49E2-8DA2-236327F262FB.png" width="400" /></a></div> <br /> <p><b>The Progressive Yoruba Youth (PYY) has passed a vote of no confidence on the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry.</b></p> <p>The panel was set up to investigate police brutality and high handedness across the State.</p> <p>The group said the panel has so far come short of high expectations of Lagosians.</p> <p>The group’s National President, Kola Salawu, made their position known at a press conference on Tuesday in Lagos.</p> <a id="more" name="more"></a> <p>PYY said that Lagos risks another outbreak of violence if the panel fails to get to the root of matters about human rights abuses.</p> <p>The Yoruba youth group said that due to pressure from Sanwo-Olu, the panel may not arrive at a fair, objective and just conclusions on what transpired at Lekki.</p> <p>The group wants the panel to be disbanded and the body of tainted evidence it has collected so far must be discountenanced.</p> <p>“Our specific reference is to the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanw-Oolu to look into incidence of brutality and human rights abuses by operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)” the group said.</p> <p>With the developments at the panel, PYY said there could be a miscarriage of justice if care was not taken.</p> <p>PYY pointed out that while setting up the panel, Lagosian had hope and expected that things will move on smoothly.</p> <p>It cried out that the panel is becoming more of a circus show, adding that a member of the panel has been running riot all over the public opinion space and making comments that are prejudicial to the eventual outcome of whatever work the panel does.</p> <p>PYY lamented that at the moment the Sanwo-Olu panel has fallen into the trap of a made-for-television reality show.</p> <p>“In a situation where the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry continues along the line of previous panels that failed, it means that we potentially risk another outbreak of violence,” the youths warned.</p> <p>The group further alleged that from its findings, the panel is acting from a script, one written and clandestinely handed to it by Governor Sanwo-Olu when setting it up.</p> <p>Recall that the Women for Peace, Justice and Human Rights had during week called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to stay away from the state’s Panel of Inquiry and Restitution probing the alleged shooting of End SARS protesters in Lekki toll gate.</p> <p>The group said the panel was a charade put together to deceive people of the State and absolve Sanwo-Olu of any wrongdoing in the Lekki toll gate incident.</p>

While this position has been canvassed in numerous quarters, however, there seems to be a link with regards to the provision of logistic support to the protesters across the country. It is instructive to state that the EndSARS protest was funded from a well-concealed network that raised over N75 Million from donations from individuals in Nigerian and outside the shores of the country through a group called The Feminist Coalition,” the memorandum reads in part.</p> <p>They also absolved the military of “any wrongdoing at Lekki toll gate, Lagos or anywhere in the country.”</p> <p>Recall that DJ Switch had accused soldiers of killing peaceful protesters in Lekki toll gate.</p>
