The National Space Research and Development Agency on Friday said it was not true the agency had turned to an institute of free sex.

This was in reaction to a report titled, “Free sex institute space agency stinks in office romance, partner snatching,” which was published by a newspaper on February 17, 2016.

The agency said the report, which described it as a place of sexual harassment, was an exaggeration of the situation on ground.

The newspaper article was based on a circular issued by the management of the agency, titled “Caution on harassment among members of staff of NASRDA and its activity centres.”

The Head of Media and Corporate Communications of the agency, Dr. Felix Ale, said in a statement that it was true that the said memo was pasted on the institute’s notice board.

However, he said the memo was not in any way a reaction to any happening that borders on sexual harassment as asserted in the publication, but rather a management strategy to instil discipline and decorum in its staff members.

He said, “You would agree with me that with the picture painted by the publication, no organisation would be able to thrive as well as realise its set objectives and goals in such a precarious situation. It would also please you to know that the case of the couple referred to (in the newspaper report) is a case of misunderstanding between husband and wife, and the management believes it is a domestic issue, which can be best handled by the parties involved. This is a sensitive issue that borders on marriage and involves a man, woman, and their children. They should be left to handle the matter and do not need such interference.

“The National Space Research and Development Agency is a reputable institution saddled with the developmental responsibility of taking the nation to great technological heights, a feat we have been able to achieve to an appreciable level, given the crop of engineers and scientists we have. They are men and women with high level of cerebral intelligence, mindful of the great task ahead of the space agency.

“I, therefore, state categorically that the assertions in the publication are malicious and not a true reflection of the reality on ground. The publication is detrimental to the image of the agency and would definitely send the wrong messages to the public.”
