The Nigerian Senate has invited the minister of budget and national planning, Udoma Udo Udoma and his finance counterpart, Kemi Adeosun, over the lack of funding of the 2017 budget.
The duo were summoned following a motion on the stabilizing and sustaining post-recession growth of the economy which was raised during plenary on Tuesday, September 26.
Senator Barau Jubrin, during deliberation on the floor of the House, stated that it was necessary for the executive to be focused so that the country does not slide back into recession.
On his part, Senator Na’Allah called on the executive to immediately implement the budget.
Similarly, Senator Dino Melaye queried why the government was not funding the budget now that the country was out of recession.
Senate president Bukola Saraki in his submission said the government was on the right track but needed to do more on infrastructure.
The Senate president then requested that Senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan, follow up on the invitation of of the ministers of finance and budget and national planning over the issue.
