Wike, but we will constructively criticise policies of the state government that is anti-people with courage and passion.<br /> <br /> “We have already offered to help him work for peace and development of the state, and in doing that, we will serve as the conscience of Rivers people and government.’’

As usual, I was at the jetty this morning to monitor compliance before the affected boat took off. The number of casualties would have been higher assuming we don’t enforce the use of life jackets. Before the boat took off, I checked all the passengers to ensure all of them wore life jackets and few minutes later, I noticed an unusual gathering of fishermen on the high Sea and I sent one of my men to go and inquire what informed the gathering only for him to call me on phone about the mishap. As at now, seven people are dead while ten are alive,’’<br /> <br /> Asked the cause of the incident, he said, ‘’all we gathered was that the boat operator heard a strange sound underneath the boat and the next thing was a capsize but the fisher men ran to their rescue immediately,’’<br /> <br /> A female survivor Temisan Rire said she narrowly missed the boat because of a telephone conversation, ‘’all things work together for those that love God. I was to board the boat this morning when one of my neighbours called me on phone that I did not switch off the television set and I rushed back home to put things in order. On getting back to the jetty, I saw a crowd only to be told of the incident and goose pimples overwhelmed me,’’<br /> <br /> As at the time of filing this report, commercial activities at the jetty have been put on hold while the jetty chairman was said to have travelled to Ogun State when the incident occurred but one of his colleagues who pleaded anonymity said the incident has thrown them into confusion, ‘’we are busy moving from one hospital to another to ensure the victims are well taken care off,’’<br /> <br /> Contacted, NEMA South-West Information Officer for National Emergency management Authority Ibrahim Farinloye said the incident occurred when the boat ran into scooped sand, ‘’ the operator did not know there was scooped sand on his way and he ran into it making the boat to capsize. Seven deaths were recorded and 10 people were rescued’’

Umar asserted that many of the terrorists migrated from the North-eastern part of the country to the South East, following hot chase given to them by the army in the recent times.<br /> <br /> He added that all hands are on deck by the military to arrest them all.<br /> <br /> While informing inhabitants of the locality about what the army called, “show of force, confidence building patrol” the army vowed that efforts to stop all criminal activities such as kidnapping, vandalism, illegal oil bunkering and killing of innocent citizens in its area of operation shall be met with zero tolerance, as this is the mandate of operation polo shield.<br /> <br /> The military men also pasted names of 100 wanted Boko Haram suspects in some strategic places in Sapele metropolis. This is a clear sabotage by economic saboteurs. Recently, they blasted pipeline at Orukari and Golubokiri.<br /> <br /> ” I condemn this latest attack on Agip pipeline at Kpongbokiri in its entirety. It is sabotage against Nigeria in a bid to cripple the economy at a time the nation is struggling with decline in revenue due to the fall in oil prices.<br /> <br /> “It is common knowledge that because of the low price of oil which is our main source of revenue, many states can hardly pay workers’ salaries. We are doing this due to the consistent deficit we are experiencing. This is why there is no government official on the committee.<br /> <br /> “We have asked them to help check and also find other ways of raising revenues. If they come out to say, the figures we have is correct, so be it. If they say we have some addition, we will check again. Things at the moment are hard and it is a challenging moment for us as a state.”<br /> <br /> Dickson also announced a deficit spending of N1.713bn in November 2015, saying a total of N4.804bn accrued to the state.<br /> <br /> He noted that over N6.518bn was spent on the payment of salaries for workers and political appointees, overhead costs and loan repayment.<br /> <br /> He said that the deficit and the reluctance of some banks to provide loan facilities to the state because of the governorship election were factors responsible for the delay in the payment of workers’ salaries.

Nigeria has been revolving between 3 per cent and 6 per cent.”

Let us all form what I call citizens’ coalition against corruption by speaking up against the crime, refusing to glorify or support looters, irrespective of how much dirty cash they dangle before us, and refusing to be divided along religious or ethnic lines.”<br /> <br /> While listing the effects of corruption in the nation, the minister said Nigeria lost $400bn in the oil sector alone, adding that so much money was stolen by corrupt leaders from the health, education, security and other sectors.<br /> <br /> According to him, atrocities committed by the Boko Haram insurgents continued for many years because the funds allocated to buy weapons for the military were shared by some corrupt persons.<br /> <br /> Apart from massive loss of lives and property, Mohammed stated that corruption in public office had caused endemic poverty, poor infrastructure and lack of qualitative health care, among other effects.<br /> <br /> The minister, however, claimed that corruption had started fighting back, saying some of the corrupt persons had started hiring hack writers, pseudo analysts to attack the President’s war against corruption in the media.<br /> <br /> He said, “On the part of government, let me reiterate what I said earlier that there is no stopping this fight. Those who doubt the resolve of this administration to successfully wage this battle will learn a tough lesson, a lesson of their lives.<br /> <br /> “Failure is not an option in this fight. In the days ahead, we plan a road show of sorts on corruption sensitisation efforts.”<br /> <br /> Mohammed decried the use of ethno-religious sentiment to weaken the anti-corruption war, but asked Nigerians to ignore the trick “because poverty and other effects of corruption did not discriminate between people according to ethnicity or religious beliefs.”

According to the source, all the transfers were effected between June and December 2014, a period that coincided with the preparation for and conduct of the Ekiti state governorship election, which ushered in the current administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose.<br /> <br /> For instance N200 million was transferred into Sylvan Mc Namara’s account on June 5, 2015, while N2billion was also wired into the account from the CBN/ Imprest Main account on June 16, 2015. Another transfer of N700 million hit the account on July 7, 2014, while N1billion was credited to the account on July 30, 2014. Other transfers included: N160 million on August 8, 2014; N225 million on August 22, 2014; N200 million on November 14, 2014 and N200 million on December 5, 2014.<br /> <br /> Sources disclosed that both Gbolahan and Babajide Obanikoro, as directors of the company, were also signatories to its account until 2014 when one Olalekan Ogunseye was made the sole signatory to the account. EFCC sources disclosed that the payments to the company from the office of the National Security Adviser were made without any contract.

Osagie and one Jamila Ojora had on January 27, 2016 allegedly approached Senator Ahmed Datti, the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja and gave him a tax assessment of N20,029, 496.00 through a letter of intent, which he paid.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> However when he requested for the assessment certificate, they refused to oblige him. Instead they allegedly demanded for N5million gratification. All pleas by him fell on deaf ears. Consequently, he petitioned the EFCC, and was advised to play along. Consequently, marked N5million was delivered to the director through Ojora in a sting operation. Ojora was arrested after she collected the N5m. Thank God they are hale and healthy,” he stated.
