The lesson from the Zamfara experience is that APC risks losing everything if a faction is allowed to elect party candidates.<br /> <br /> “Therefore, direct primary is the best option for APC in Ondo State. It will bring the two factions together, provide level-playing field for all governorship aspirants and give all party members the powers to elect the governorship candidate.”<br /> <br /> In the same vein, a chieftain of the party, Olusola Oke, who emerged as the consensus candidate of the Unity Forum of the party, said direct primaries would provide equity and fairness in the party.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Rotimi Ogunleye, he said, “As a democrat and in agreement with the overwhelming opinion of the majority of the leaders and members of the APC in Ondo State, I am in full support of direct primary as allowed by the constitution of our party.<br /> <br /> “It is a fact that there is a faction in Ondo APC executive and the matter is pending in court. For equity and fairness, direct primary will provide participatory platform for all shades of interests that were prevented from participating in the last congress of the APC in Ondo State.”<br /> <br /> The state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, declined to comment on the issue when contacted by one of our correspondents.<br /> <br /> “I don’t have anything to say about the issue of primaries for now but all I can say is that the party is preparing for the primaries and the main election,” he said.

They are 1529 in all.<br /> <br /> Yahaya said the six corps members absconded from the service; hence the punishment.<br /> <br /> He also revealed that eleven other corps members “will have their services extended for committing various degrees of offences as they contravened the NYSC bye- laws.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, in Ogun State, 28 errant corps members of 2019 Batch B, Stream I, were sanctioned with extension and remobilisation of service.<br /> <br /> The NYSC coordinator in Ogun State, Dr Belinda Faniyi, disclsosed this on Thursday during the passing-out of the corps members in Abeokuta.<br /> <br /> Faniyi said 4250 corps members had been discharged after observing their one-year obligatory national service in the state.<br /> <br /> In Kebbi State, the Coordinator, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, in his farewell address to the outgoing corps members, disclosed that eight corps members had their service year extended while two would repeat the entire service year for contravening various rules and regulations of the scheme.

However, not all of them are paid from federal coffers.

In essence, the current amount of power that reaches consumers will more than double by the end of next year.<br /> <br /> “In addition, this will create thousands of jobs and will leapfrog the country into the next level of industrial and social development.”<br /> <br /> He said that based on the performance of the last five years,it was clear that President Muhammadu Buhari was taking Nigeria to the next level of irreversible change.<br /> <br /> On the fight against corruption, Mohammed said the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered cash and assets in excess of N118 billion in the last one year.<br /> <br /> He said the ICPC recovered N81 billion while the EFCC confiscated N32 billion<br /> <br /> Of the cash recoveries made by ICPC, N41.98 billion was restrained on review of MDAs’ Personnel Cost Expenditure and Capital Development Fund while N35.011 billion was recovered in lands, buildings and vehicles, N1.167 billion as cash in Treasury Single Account and N0.77 billion from constituency projects tracked.<br /> <br /> The minister said that N 1.097 billion was recovered in completed constituency projects upon return of contractors to site, N 0.865 billion Cash in Other Accounts and 1.113 million dollars cash in domiciliary account.<br /> <br /> He said the Commission has also established a Constituency Project Tracking Group named Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Group, to track performance of publicly-funded projects.<br /> <br /> Mohammed said that the projects targeted are those with immediate impact on the livelihood of ordinary Nigerians.<br /> <br /> “Four hundred and twenty-four of such projects were tracked within the period under review, which led to the completion of many abandoned projects and recovery of billions of naira on some of the projects.<br /> <br /> He said: “Number of completed constituency projects in education, health, water resources, agriculture and other sectors increased to over 400 nationwide, from those that were specifically monitored.<br /> <br /> “Furthermore, over 300 contractors who had abandoned projects returned to site in various parts of the country.<br /> <br /> In the area of prosecution, the minister said the Commission secured 25 convictions in the past one year.<br /> <br /> He said the commission received 1,934 petitions within the period under review and concluded investigations on 588 petitions while 105 cases were filed in court.<br /> <br /> He credited EFCC with securing 1,270 convictions including high profile ones, and recovering N32.6 billion, $10,348 , £ 758,155; €183,475; 294,950 Saudi Riyal; 2,800 Chinese Yuan; 300 Canadian Dollars and 500 CFA.<br /> <br /> The minister also said that the border drill/exercise swift response introduced by the government has gone a long way in reducing robbery and kidnapping in the country, boosting of agriculture and reducing smuggling.<br /> <br /> “We have witnessed a reduction in cases of insecurity – kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery or other violent crimes.<br /> <br /> “The border closure has drastically reduced availability of hard drugs on the streets, as well as curbed activities of armed smugglers.<br /> <br /> “Talking about security, you are all aware of the unprecedented successes being recorded ever,” he said.

The victims were killed at a food shop in Nzharuvo Miango around  9:50 pm on Thursday. The shop is just along the road about 18 kilometers to Jos.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> “The victims just went there to eat when the gunmen came and shot all of them dead, Miss Asabe Samuel, the shop owner, Mr. Gideon Tunku (school teacher) Bala Adi Joro, Audu Amadu Mi, and Shedrack Joshua.”<br /> <br /> He said the incident had been reported to security agencies, whom he said were already interrogating 10 persons suspected to have carried out the attack.<br /> <br /> He said, “When the attack took place yesterday (Thursday), we informed the security personnel at their duty post not more than one kilometer from the scene of the incident.<br /> <br /> “A few hours later, around 1:18 am, a vehicle carrying ten young men was intercepted by the vigilante at Jebu Bassa community. The vehicle made some suspicious turns before it was blocked by vigilantes and when they were interrogated, they claimed to be returning to Kaduna after supplying tomatoes in Shendam. But when one of them was interviewed separately, he said a different thing and claimed to be coming from Faringada Market in Jos.<br /> <br /> “Right now, they are at the police station in Bassa because they are suspected to be the ones who carried out the attacks in our community. ”<br /> <br /> A spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the incident and said an investigation into the matter was ongoing at the time of filing this report.

We continue to urge our citizens to follow these advisories diligently,” he stated.<br /> <br /> Also, the PTF National Coordinator, Sani Aliyu, said the task force would be focusing on greater community mobilisation by engaging over 800,000 volunteers.<br /> <br /> “This strategy involves an aggressive campaign to ensure everyone in the community is armed with the information they need to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to protect themselves.<br /> <br /> “It will empower communities to self-mobilise within their interest groups and collectively practise and enforce prevention measures,” Aliyu said.<br /> <br /> He explained that the campaign would cut across communities in the 774 local government areas at the grassroots by engaging partners such as the National Orientation Agency, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the United Nations Children Education Fund, Jamaatu Nasrul Islam, National Council for Women Societies, Yar’Adua Foundation, Nigerian Interfaith Action Association, the UN system and many more.

The losses, we are piling up, were just too much and threatening.<br /> <br /> “Primero should be back in full operations tomorrow (Friday) because we are talking to the Lagos State Government and all issues will be resolved today.<br /> <br /> “I am sorry for the inconveniences and distress this withdrawal of services has caused the teeming commuters in Lagos who rely on BRT services since Monday.<br /> <br /> “I assure everybody that Primero will be back in full operations tomorrow and we will put 320 buses out to make sure people get to where they are going in a fast and safe way,” Tinubu said.<br /> <br /> According to him, the firm will ensure that going forward, the wait time and queues at bus stations are reduced.<br /> <br /> “We will do all within our power to ensure resumption of operation. We would have resolved all our issues this afternoon,” he added.<br /> <br /> Tinubu, however, did not give details of the agreement reached  betwen the state government and his company in respect of the fares and number of passengers to be carried per bus.<br /> <br /> On May 15, NAN reported shortage of BRT buses across various routes, presence of long queues and an increase in awaiting time at BRT stations in Lagos.<br /> <br /> BRT users have been complaining over the shortage of buses since the easing of the current lockdown on May 4.<br /> <br /> The state government had directed the 70-capacity buses to carry only 20 passengers.

One of the protesters was injured when they fell off the vehicle as it sped away.<br /> <br /> Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey said he could not understand why the officer who held his knee to Floyd’s neck on a Minneapolis street until the 46-year-old restaurant worker went limp has not been arrested.<br /> <br /> “Why is the man who killed George Floyd not in jail? If you had done it, or I had done it, we would be behind bars right now,” Frey said.<br /> <br /> – ‘I can’t breathe’ –<br /> The case was seen as the latest example of police brutality against African Americans, which gave rise six years ago to the Black Lives Matter movement.<br /> <br /> Floyd had been detained on a minor charge of allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase at a convenience store.<br /> <br /> In the video, policemen hold him to the ground while one presses his knee to Floyd’s neck.<br /> <br /> “Your knee in my neck. Y. Danjuma, Asokoro, Abuja is no longer there. It has been demolished and new structure is being built on the land. Gen. John Enenche, said the air strikes were executed after a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions.<br /> <br /> The two locations, according to Ehenche were being used as hideouts for some notorious bandit leaders whilst also serving as collection points for rustled cattle.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Accordingly, Air Component, employing Nigerian Air Force ground attack aircraft and helicopter gunships, engaged the two locations in multiple passes, destroying the makeshift structures in the camps as well as killing the bandit leaders and their fighters.<br /> <br /> “Human Intelligence (HUMINT) sources later confirmed that close to 200 armed bandits were killed in the air strikes at the target locations” He added.<br /> <br /> Commenting on the issue, the Chief of the Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commended the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji for their professionalism and directed them to remain resolute towards eradicating all armed bandits.<br /> <br /> Air Marshall Sadique said this would lead to achieving directives of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of restoring normalcy in the North West and North Central Zones of the Country.
