Saudi Arabia has suspended flights to three countries, including the neighbouring United Arab Emirates, to protect against a coronavirus variant, the interior ministry said Saturday.
The move comes seven weeks after the oil-rich kingdom permitted fully immunised citizens to travel abroad, after a ban on foreign trips that lasted more than a year.
The UAE, and especially Dubai, is a key leisure destination for Saudis. 
Flights to and from the UAE, alongside those to Ethiopia and Vietnam, will be suspended from Sunday, an interior ministry official said, quoted by the state news agency SPA.

Saudi citizens and residents returning from these countries will be required to quarantine for 14 days, it added.
Citizens would be banned “from travelling directly or indirectly, without obtaining prior permission from… authorities”.
The decision was taken due to “the spread of a new mutated strain of the (Covid-19) virus”, it added, without explicitly mentioning the increasingly globally emergent Delta variant.
The variant, first detected in India and now present in at least 85 countries, is the most contagious of any Covid-19 variant yet identified.
The UAE announced last week it had recorded cases of the Delta variant and it has suspended flights to and from India.
Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, has put major limits on the annual hajj pilgrimage. It has officially recorded more than 490,000 cases of coronavirus, including nearly 7,850 deaths.
The oil-rich Gulf state is home to a large expat workforce from Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Yoruba nation agitators, on Saturday, announced their presence at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos State, as they appeared in cultural regalia synonymous with African traditional religion.
The separatists hold the rally for the secession of the South-West geopolitical zone despite repeated warnings by security operatives.
The agitators led by Professor Banji Akintoye Ilana Oodua group had held similar rallies in other states in the South-West.

Scores of protesters have surfaced at the Gani Fawehinmi Park Ojota for the planned Yoruba Nation rally.
The protesters surfaced while the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu was addressing journalists on why the protest cannot hold.
The protesters are yet to identify with any secessionist group but can be heard shouting ‘we want Yoruba Nation.
”We are tired of being raped, we are tired of being killed, Give us our Yoruba nation now” the protesters chanted.

So far, there has been no arrest by the police.

The embattled Yoruba National agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has debunked the news of his arrest.
Igboho, whose house was invaded on Thursday, escaped the invasion, although two persons were killed and 13 persons were arrested and paraded by the Department of State Services in Abuja.
But late on Friday night, an online medium had reported that Igboho was arrested by the DSS at the Sat Guru Maharaj Ji Camp and had been taken to Abuja.
Igboho’s aides, as well as those close to Guru Maharaj Ji, told our correspondent in separate interviews that the story was not true.

Igboho also debunked his rumoured arrest in a recorded voice message played on Facebook by his media aide, Olayomi Koiki, during a live show at about 11:59pm on Friday.
Igboho, who spoke in Yoruba language, said he was still at his house in Ibadan.
He said, “Good evening my fans. I thank you all. My name is Sunday Igboho and today is July 2 , 2021. I have been hearing that they have arrested me at Guru Maharaj Ji. It is a lie. I was not at Guru Maharaj Ji. I am in my house in Ibadan and nobody arrested me.” (sic)
Meanwhile, one of Igboho’s maternal uncles simply identified as Alfa, was said to be one of those killed during the invasion of his residence by DSS operatives.
Our correspondent gathered that Alfa was a younger brother of Igboho’s mum.
One of Igboho’s aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Alfa was on a visit to the house and was praying when the security agents stormed the house and opened fire there.
The second person who was shot dead during the raid on the house was identified as Saheed, popularly known as Adogan.
Adogan, was said to have hailed from Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where Igboho has business interests.
The source said that Adogan was popular around Alekuwodo and that his killing had been described as a sad incident among Igboho’s aides.
The source said, “You know that people were always many in the house. There are even some persons there that chief does not recognise. Getting their full identities is difficult.
“But the Alfa that cane on a visit from Ogun State was chief’s uncle. He was praying when the soldiers and DSS arrived and started shooting. He was shot and he died there. His corpse was taken away.
“Adogan was also shot dead. His death pained everybody. He hailed from Osogbo, Alekuwodo area. His first name is Saheed, but I don’t know his surname.”

The umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, has alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services shot and butchered an associate of Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho when they raided the activist’s Ibadan residence on Thursday.
The group led by ex-Senator Banji Akintoye claimed that the secret shot Saheed Adisa popularly called Adogan 48 times before they butchered him to death.
“This is the face of a true warrior. His name is Adogan. He took 48 bullets to his body and was still standing like a fearless Ikoyi Eso. When bullets failed the DSS, they had to slam a mortal on his head, butchering him to death.
“While DSS operatives were butchering Adogan, Majasola Igboho Oosa (May peace and blessings of Eedua always be with him) had made his exit to fight another day.

“It was said that Adogan’s body was so brutally decapitated by the DSS that they were ashamed to leave his body behind. They whisked his body away, but his blood literally trailed them from Chief Igboho’s living room to the DSS headquarters in Abuja. Trust me, we will take our revenge. RIP my good brother! No going back on Yoruba nation. Lagos rally goes on, as planned, tomorrow. Ifa Dare,” the group posted on social media.
It was earlier reported that mourners have been visiting the Osogbo, Osun State country home of Adogan, who died during the DSS raid alongside Igboho’s maternal uncle known as Alfa. Adogan is survived by an aged mother, wife, three children and siblings.
The DSS had on Thursday evening paraded 13 of Igboho’s guards and close associates in Abuja. The DSS also said it killed two of his associates in a gun duel with the secret police. The two men were later identified as Adogan and Alfa.
Though Igboho had escaped the raid, his house and cars were riddled with bullets while bloodstains splattered over the floors of the house.
The secret police have since declared Igboho wanted. The activist is being accused of stockpiling weapons to destabilise the country under the guise of agitation for Yoruba nation.

Gunmen Suspected to be kidnappers, on Thursday evening, abducted 13 women travelling along Kaduna Birnin Gwari road
The women who were on their way to attend a wedding, were said to have been kidnapped between Manini and Udawa town, along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.
According to a resident of Udawa town, Alhaji Umar Abdullah, who said he escaped narrowly, “the incident happened on Thursday around 12:00 pm when the bandits intercepted three vehicles conveying the women on their way to Birnin Gwari.”
It was gathered that among the victims were nursing mothers and a woman with her five daughters.

England manager, Gareth Southgate, has brushed off the clamour to rest England players, Harry Maguire, Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Phil Foden when they face Ukraine tonight at risk of suspension for a potential Euro 2020 semi-final.
It was reported the four England players have all picked up a booking at the tournament so far.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho had led calls for the likes of Rice and Maguire, others to be left out at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, given Southgate has plenty of alternative options available within his 26-man squad.
Reacting to the development, Southgate said at his pre-match press conference that looking beyond Ukraine would be a ‘big error’, insisting that picking a strong team capable of beating Ukraine was his main ‘focus’.
“I don’t really understand that rationale,” Southgate said.
“I understand that strategically you might like to do that but I can’t think of a country in the world that would do that for a quarter-final, especially a country that’s only been to three semi-finals in its history.
“No, I think we have got to focus on tomorrow. I think it would be a big error to be thinking about anything else and I think it would be an insult to Ukraine as well.
“So we won’t make any decisions based on yellow cards. We did in the last group game because we knew we had qualified and we had the opportunity to protect Phil in that game as we were not sure what was going to happen further on.
“But now we play to win and we have got to have everybody available.”

In a bid to arrest the theft of clips on rail tracks around the country, the Federal Government has commenced massive installation of anti-theft clips to check acts of vandalism, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi has said.
Amaechi, who disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on Friday, in Abuja, on the measure adopted by his ministry to guard against the thefts, said that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) lost no fewer than 15,000 clips along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line in the last six years.
As a result, the minister said that his ministry had resolved to henceforth install anti-theft clips to guard against the stealing of the rail tracks and other facilities.
The briefing was organised by the Presidential Communication Team led by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

Amaechi said:” Like the Kaduna-Abuja rail line, where over 6,000 to 10,000 clips have been stolen and have to be replaced daily so that we don’t have a situation where the train derails.
“These clips aren’t made in Nigeria. They’re bought overseas. So, we buy them in dollars.
“Part of the solution is something called anti-theft clips. But, they are more expensive. It’s three times more expensive than the current one. But it is better.
”We’re now replacing them with anti-theft clips in Lagos-Ibadan. All other constructions will now be anti-theft. With anti-theft, you can’t open it. You can’t remove it.
“We need to now go back to the Abuja-Kaduna line and change them to anti-theft clips.
“I don’t know why we have not made that decision earlier because we have changed up to 10,000 to 15,000 clips in six years.”

An Ogun State indigene, Pastor Kunle Garb has been arrested by policemen from Benin Republic, who stormed Igbokofi, a border community in Ogun State over boundary disputes.
It was gathered that the activist was arrested over his involvement in preventing the unlawful takeover of Nigerian lands in Yewa North Local Government by the Beninoise government.
But, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday appealed to the Federal Government to immediately secure the man, who he said is “currently languishing in detention in Benin Republic.”
According to Abiodun, Garb was abducted at the village market, last week by gendarmes (Beninoise Police) who he claimed crossed illegally into the Nigerian territory to carry out the daring act, after they have succeeded in scaring away traders and Nigerians at the market.

According to Gov Abiodun, the arrested Ogun indigene had consistently campaigned against incessant harassment of Nigerians by the government of Benin Republic, which is attempting to forcefully annex the Nigerian territory.
In a statement on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the Governor lamented that Garb was taken away in a gestapo manner by the armed security agents from the neighbouring country.
Pastor Garb, it was learnt, has since been charged to a court and remanded under inhuman conditions in Benin Republic and was denied access to his lawyer, doctor and family members.
In a protest to the Federal Government, Abiodun narrated the ordeal of Nigerians living at the border towns, calling for prompt action by relevant authorities to prevent further harassment of Ogun indigenes and encroachment on the Nigerian territorial borders.
He called on the National Boundary Commission to do more in clearly demarcating Nigeria’s international borders with Benin Republic, even as he charged security agents to properly secure Nigerians in the border communities.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who disclosed this at a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said Kanu was living “a five-star life across several countries.

“He was travelling on chartered private jets, living in luxury apartments and turning out in designing clothes and shoes.
“Of course, as we all saw, he was wearing an attire made by Fendi, a luxury Italian fashion brand, when he was arrested,’’ he said.
The minister said Kanu’s re-arrest and repatriation was made possible through the collaboration of Nigerian security and intelligence agencies.
He described the re-arrest and repatriation as “one of the most classic operations of its type in the world’’.
Mohammed, however, did not comment on the speculations on how the re-arrest was pulled off and in which country the hitherto fugitive leader of the proscribed IPOB was nabbed.
“What we can tell you, once again, is that the re-arrest was made possible by the diligent efforts of our security and intelligence agencies, in collaboration with countries with which we have obligations.
“We will continue to respect and honour the obligations,’’ he sa
Mohammed disclosed that the forensic investigation carried out so far had revealed a treasure trove of information on the proscribed IPOB leader and his collaborators.
“While the investigation continues, we assure you that none of the collaborators, irrespective of their standing in the society, will be spared.\
“They will all face the full wrath of the law for their activities that challenge our nation’s sovereignty and threaten its unity.
“No one, no matter how highly placed, is bigger than the country,’’ he said.
The minister also assured that Kanu would get a fair trial in measure with the offence he was being prosecuted over.
“It is interesting that many are suddenly calling for a fair trial for Kanu as if he didn’t get one before he decided to jump bail and flee.
“However, I can assure you that the fair deal that Kanu denied many of the victims of the violence which he willfully instigated through his broadcasts and tweets will not be denied him,’’ he said.
 
He commended the Nigerian security and intelligence agencies for their professionalism, diligence, patriotism and painstaking efforts as well as sister international agencies that collaborated to pull off the arrest.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kanu, who is facing an 11-count charge of treason, treasonable felony, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms, among others, jumped bail in 2017 and left the country.
He was re-arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday and ordered to be remanded in the custody of the DSS, while the case was adjourned till July 26 and July 27.

The Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State Chapter is plotting a legal move to ensure the return of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the state and sack Hope Uzodinma.
PDP through its lawyer, Phillips Umeadi filed additional processes alongside a motion tabled since 2020 praying the Supreme Court to reverse its decision sacking Emeka Ihedioha.
The apex court is expected to fix a date to hear the motion soon.
The respondents to the motion on notice marked: SC/1384/2019 are Uche Nwosu, Action Peoples Party (APP), Uche Nnadi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PDP argues that Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should not be declared winner of the election after disqualifying Nwosu from contesting the election because he was nominated as the candidate of both the Action Alliance and APC for the same election.
The opposition prays the court to declare that both AA and APC did not produce a candidate in view of Nwosu’s double nomination and his disqualification by the court on December 20, 2019.
They also pray the court to order that Uzodimma was not a candidate by himself or of any political party at the election, and to order INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to him.
PDP prays the court to order INEC to issue a certificate of return to its candidate in the election, Emeka Ihedioha, “as the duly elected governor of Imo State, having scored the second-highest number of votes in the said election sequel to the judgment of this court in Appeal No: SC/1462/2019 – Uzodimma and another v. Emeka Ihedioha and others delivered on January 4, 2020.
“Senator Hope Uzodinma could not have been a candidate in the election as an independent candidate as such right is not available to him.”
“Emeka Ihedioha, who scored the second-highest number of votes after Senator Hope Uzodinma, from the judgment of this court, ought to be issued a certificate of return by the fourth respondent (INEC) and sworn in accordingly”, the motion read in part.

The Danes were in danger of an early exit after group-stage losses to Finland and Belgium, the first of which was overshadowed by star player Christian Eriksen suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch.
But, roared on by a raucous Copenhagen crowd, they thrashed Russia 4-1 to finish second in Group B, before travelling to Amsterdam to thump Wales 4-0 in the last 16.
Denmark have not reached a major tournament semi-final since lifting the trophy 29 years ago, when they initially failed to qualify but were late replacements for Yugoslavia.

“It’s a chance that we might never have again,” coach Kasper Hjulmand said ahead of Saturday’s last-eight match against the Czechs in Baku.

“I had a really bad experience watching the match at Copenhagen Town Hall Square,” Danish defender Mathias Jorgensen told uefa.com.
“At the time, we all believed we would easily get past them. And that turned into an awful and, as I remember, rainy day in Copenhagen.”
The Czechs produced an excellent display to beat the 10-man Netherlands 2-0 in Budapest last time out, but have expressed their frustrations about having to play in Baku.

Following the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the Benue Youth Forum has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to arrest the leadership of the Miyetti groups, Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) and other terrorists who live and dine in cosy hotels in Abuja.
The Youth Forum made the call in a statement by its President, Terrence Kuanum, on Friday.
According to Kuanum, the arrest of the leadership of the Miyetti Allah groups and FUNAM will drastically reduce tension and prove that the President Muhammadu Buhari government is willing to accord justice to all Nigerians at long last.
The statement read, “It is no longer news that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was a few days ago, re-arrested and brought back to Nigeria. The development indicated that our security intelligence is suddenly working.

“Before now, it was apparent that the intelligence network of Nigeria’s security forces had malfunctioned particularly as it bordered on the inflammatory and treasonable utterances of the leadership of Miyetti Allah groups who have at different times claimed responsibility for the killing of hundreds innocent Nigerians. We in the Middle Belt have been the worst hit.
“Groups such as the Fulani Nationality Movement, FUNAM have repeatedly attacked and killed many defenseless people and have come out to state that more blood will flow. In March this year, the group publicly said it had carried out the attack on Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom. Though the Governor escaped the assassination attempt, FUNAM vowed that they won’t relent until they hit their target. Our security agencies heard the group’s threat loud and clear but looked the other way. In fact, they absorbed all Fulani groups of blame in the attack on the Governor. That was just one incident of the manner the country’s security forces display a double faced approach to the fight against terrorism. They treat anything that involves herdsmen with kid gloves.
“Recent events have left the people of the Middle Belt perplexed on how the same intelligence that failed to give them protection and justice could metamorphose into a gallant and active force using Interpol to track down Nnamdi Kanu who they claimed instigated the killing of 55 persons but would ignore the Miyetti Allah leadership who have caused greater pain and sorrow in the hearts of Nigerians.
“We find it appalling that in a country where there seems to be no justice the federal government through its agencies will choose to go after those only agitating for independence and allow those causing mass deaths and destruction to the very foundation of the nation. The aggression with which Nnamdi Kanu was trailed and arrested smacked of a skewed and misplaced priority.
“The agitations for the restructuring of Nigeria in the face of gross marginalization and wanton killings need to be appreciated by the government because no nation ignores its citizens in penury as it is the case of this country. Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB and other separatist groups are only responding to the failure of Nigeria to give its citizens equal opportunities and freedoms. Such freedom fighters are therefore not worse than sworn terrorists like Miyetti Allah groups and FUNAM who do not only want the collapse of the country but also want to appropriate it to themselves as their ethnic possession.
“President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent media outing to mark his six years anniversary aggravated issues in the country where he disappointed every Nigerian by failing to address the concerns of the people. The President should be told that his insistence that cattle routes and grazing reserves be opened across the country will surely set the nation ablaze.
“We expect that the federal government will immediately direct security agencies to arrest the leadership of the Miyetti groups and FUNAM with the same zeal they apprehended Nnamdi Kanu. Now they have demonstrated capacity to nab and extradite a suspect even from a foreign land so nothing should stop them from arresting Miyetti Allah leaders and other terrorists who live and dine in cozy hotels in Abuja.
“The arrest of the leadership of the Miyetti Allah groups and FUNAM will drastically reduce tension and prove that the Buhari government is willing to accord justice to all Nigerians at long last.
“We remain committed to the unity of this country but we seek for justice, fairness and equity to sustain the unity, peace and progress necessary for a healthy and strong nation.”

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over one Sabo Suleiman to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
The Kano command comptroller, Suleiman Umar told reporters that the suspect was caught with 184,800 dollars and 1.7 million Saudi Riyals.
Suleiman was apprehended at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport after arrival via Ethiopian Airlines.
The Customs chief said the law in Nigeria mandates that every traveler who intend to travel with cash above 10,000 dollars must declare it to the authorities.

Micheal Nzekwe, EFCC Deputy Zonal assured that the commission will throughly probe the cash.
“We will investigate this matter and the intercepted currencies will be return to the coffers of the Federal Government,” he said.
However, the comptroller disclosed that the command generated over N12billion from January to date.
Also, 108 bags of foreign rice, 413 cartons of foreign soap, 512 cartons of spaghetti and 83 units of 20 litres of vegetable oil were seized.

Co-organisers of the Yoruba Nation rally, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), have vowed to proceed with or without Sunday Igboho.
The gathering is scheduled for Saturday July 3 in Lagos.
Igboho called off the march on Thursday after Nigerian forces stormed his home in the Soka area Ibadan on Thursday.
But his partners have insisted they will proceed, vowing that no amount of intimidation will make them to bow.

A source in the IOO, a body of self-determination Yoruba groups, told newsmen that the rally will go on as planned.
He reacted to an enquiry after the Police warned that no form of demonstration will be allowed in Lagos.
Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu warned that anyone caught participating will be dealt with within the ambits of the law.
The Gani Fawehimi Freedom Park in Ojota is the venue of the rally.
Speaking, our source close to the 100 leadership dismissed the warning.
“What did you expect the Police to say? They are obeying the federal government. The Police told us not to hold the rally in Ogun and others but we did.
“It’s not compulsory that Sunday Igboho attends. I am telling you now that the Yoruba Nation rally will hold.
“The Ilana Omo Oodua under the leadership of Professor Akintoye already made it clear that we will come out,” he said.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested five suspects for allegedly exhuming corpses at a church cemetery in Ondo town, Ondo State.
The state’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Akure the State capital.
According to him, the five suspects include, Opeyemi Odetola, Lanre Akintola, Clement Adesanoye, Alowonle Kehinde and Jubril Jimoh.
The PPRO who revealed that the suspects were nabbed on Saturday while on the crime, said they sell parts of the corpses after exhuming them.

It was gathered that a patrol team led by one lnspector Ayo, attached to Safer Highway Patrol, intercepted the suspects while on a motorcycle with a big sack containing human parts from Ondo to the neighbouring Ifetedo town in Osun State, and arrested them.
The police spokesman noted that the suspects have confessed to committing the crime, adding that “Investigation has commenced into the matter.”

The Brigadiers confirmed that Mikel Obi has agreed a one-year deal for the 2021/2022 season.

Popular Abuja-based rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has alleged that government planted guns in the house of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemi, also known as Igboho.
Adeyanju said Igboho should be thankful that government agents planted only guns and not bombs in his house.
In a tweet, the convener of Concerned Nigerians berated government’s security agents for allegedly killing two people in Igboho’s residence.
He tweeted: “Igboho should be thanking God that it is only guns they planted in his house and not bombs.

Recall that some gunmen had in the early hours of Thursday invaded Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The house according to those who spoke with newsmen on Thursday was invaded around 2.am and lasted till around 5.am.
The Department of State Services, DSS, however, confirmed the attack while parading 11 men and a woman arrested after a fierce battle.

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has said Yorubas want to break out of Nigeria peacefully.
Adams made the call while declaring that the Yoruba nation is tired of the senseless killings in the Southwest.
He noted that the agitation of Yoruba nation is the legitimate rights of the people.
Adams spoke during a conference held at a National Press Club, Washington DC, aired via zoom.

“From all indications, there is no denying the fact that Yoruba are tired of these senseless killings, thereby seeking self-determination most peacefully,” he said.
His comment is coming at a time when he called for a global intervention over the killings in the South-West region of Nigeria.

He urged the international community to urgently intervene in the killing carried out by Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land.

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly, has lambasted the House of Representatives for refusing to lift the ban placed on the microblogging platform, Twitter by the Federal Government.
Recall that the House of Representatives on Thursday, rejected the lifting of Twitter suspension in Nigeria.
The rejection was against the report of its committee on the issues.
The House was divided as some of the lawmakers seemed to be in support of the suspension placed on the platform by President Buhari barely a month ago.

The Department of State Services has confirmed that its operative killed aides to activist, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo AKA Igboho’s at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Recall that in the early hours of Thursday, Igboho’s residence located at Soka area of Ibadan was invaded by some gunmen suspected to be security agents.
DSS, also confirmed that it arrested 11 men and a woman after the fierce battle.
The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya on Thursday night said that the raid was based on intelligence that Igboho had stockpiled arms in the place.

“On approach to the residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine (9) men, suspected to be Igboho’s guards. Six (6) of them were armed with AK-47 gun and three (3) others, with Pump-Action riffles.”
Afunanya disclosed that two of Igboho’s aides were killed.
“In the course of the exchange, two (2) of Igboho’s armed men were gunned down while the rest were subdued and arrested. Only one operative who was shot by the assailants on his right hand sustained injury. He has, however, received medical attention and is very stable.
“Afterwards, the team procedurally searched the house and subsequently recovered the following among others:
“This is to inform Nigerians and the world that Sunday Igboho and his group, in the guise of campaign for self-determination, have become well-armed and determined to undermine public order. This, the arrests and seizures are, no doubt, a confirmation of a grand plan by IGBOHO and his cohorts to wage a violent insurrection against the Nigerian State.
“Alert foreign missions and licencing authorities within and outside Nigeria about this development and the possibility that IGBOHO could declare some of his personal permit and identity cards missing in order to seek their replacement.
“Apprise stakeholders that the Five (5) AK-47 assault rifles recovered from the building are suspected to be those collected by IGBOHO’s men from Nigerian Customs and Immigration personnel at Idi Iroko, Ogun State.”
He, therefore, urged Igboho to surrender himself to the nearest security agency, adding that those arrested will be charged to court.
“The gun duel which lasted for an hour offered IGBOHO the chance to escape. Sunday ADEYEMO a.k.a Sunday IGBOHO is now on the run. IGBOHO may run as far as he can. He may hide as long as he wants. He might have attacked security operatives as his strength carried him. But this will be the end of his shenanigans. Soon, he will not have a hiding place. His strength will sure fail him. And the law will catch up with him. The law may be slow. But it will be steady.
“Consequently, ADEYEMO/IGBOHO is advised to turn himself in to the nearest security agency. Those cheering and eulogising him may appeal to or advise him to do the needful. He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law.
“Meanwhile, those arrested will be charged accordingly.”

The Department of State Services has confirmed attack on activist Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo AKA Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Recall that in the early hours of Thursday, Igboho’s residence located at Soka area of Ibadan was invaded by some gunmen suspected to be security agents.
The house, according to those who spoke with newsmen on Thursday was invaded around 2.am.
The invasion reportedly lasted till around 5.am.

However, DSS, while confirming the raid, paraded 11 men and a woman arrested after the fierce battle.
The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya on Thursday night said the operatives recovered a cache of arms including seven AK-47 rifles and thousands of ammunition from Igboho’s house.
He said the suspects were taken to Abuja while Igboho escaped.
Afunanya stressed that the operatives has launched a manhunt for Igboho, adding that he will be tracked.

University of Lagos, Akoka, will be producing 281 First Class graduates at its forthcoming 51st Convocation Ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has said.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday to intimate the press on the activities lined up for the ceremony, Ogundipe said the Faculty of Engineering which had 70 First Class graduates was the highest in the school.
A total of 15,753 students are to be awarded various degrees at the convocation which will begin on July 5.
Furthermore, a total number of 7,754 will be awarded the first degree in various disciplines, while 7,999 will bag postgraduate degrees and diplomas in various fields.

The Convocation Lecture, titled, ‘National development and knowledge economy in the digital age: Leapfrogging SMEs into the 21st Century,’ will be delivered by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele.
“The best graduating student with the highest CGPA is Alimi Adedeji; 4.98, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. He is closely followed by Popoola Victoria Opeyemi with a CGPA of 4.90 from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences and also has the best result in the Humanities.
‘The best overall PhD thesis for this year’s graduating student is Moruf Olatunji from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Science. Meagan Peter Ekundayo from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences will be awarded the best PhD thesis in the Humanities,” said Ogundipe.
He also revealed that a 71-year-old woman, Marinze Felicia, who was born on March 6, 1950, would be the oldest to be awarded a PhD degree in the history of the university.
Ogundipe also said the late former VC of the institution, Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, would be given the Post-Humous Emeritus Professorship.
“Honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded to Dr Ameyo Stella-Adadevoh( Post-Humous), Dr Biodun Shobanjo, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, and Dr Kessington Adebutu,” he said.

Ex-United States President Donald Trump has accused his successor Joe Biden of “destroying” America.
Trump made the comment on Wednesday when he visited the border wall in Pharr.
The former leader was accompanied by Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and some Republican lawmakers.
Trump expressed dismay about the Biden administration’s decision to halt work on the project.

He said the construction could have been completed in less than three months from the time it was stopped.
Trump boasted that his government produced the safest and best border ever in America.
“Biden is destroying our country and it all started with the fake election. The big one (the 2020 presidential election)’was won by a different person,” he said.
Trump told Biden to resume building the wall and to paint it black.
“The best color to paint it is black. Because if you paint it black, it’s so hot, nobody can even try to climb it.”
Trump hailed his administration’s efforts to reduce migration and called the US-Mexico boundary, under him, the most secure in history.
“Now they’re at levels never seen before. Millions of people are flooding in, drugs, and human trafficking.”
Trump mentioned the freeze in funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a lab in China where COVID-19 allegedly emanated.
“It wasn’t about virus at that time, I stopped it because I said why the hell are we giving money to China, it was very simple”, he noted.

Manchester City will earn around £10 million following Jadon Sancho’s move from Borussia Dortmund to their rivals Manchester United.
Sancho is now set to undergo a medical before the deal is completed.
City initially received £8m when he left their Academy to move to Germany in 2017, but also negotiated a 15% share of any future transfer.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a couple for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting victims in a N935million ponzi scheme.
The suspects, Emmanuel and Victoria Jaiyeoba, were arrested at their residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
They are parents to Adewale Daniel, Marketing Director, Wales Kingdom Capital Limited.
EFCC Head of Media, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement said the suspects, in complicity with their son (still at large), operate the scheme in the guise of forex trading.

Emmanuel, a Director in Wales Kingdom Capital, operates five bank accounts and had received a sum of N18,397,913 before his arrest.
The wife, Victoria, operates six bank accounts through which she received transactions to the tune of N916,607,715.
Uwujaren added that the suspects will soon be charged to court.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, accused some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of plotting against him.
The Governor made the claims during the commissioning of three reconstructed roads in Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike also claimed that some senators and members of the House of Representatives from his State were part of the plots against him.
He said he had secured an audio evidence against the State and federal lawmakers some of who he said often followed him around.

The Governor, however, declared that the alleged plot against him will fail as according to him, he is more experienced in politics than his rivals.

“I have been trained in this war. I know them and know what they do. Senators, House of Reps, I know how they move to Abuja to conspire against me. You don’t need to worry yourself. John Campbell, a former United States, US, Ambassador to Nigeria, has reacted to the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Campbell cautioned the Nigerian government on the handling of Kanu’s trial.
He issued the warning in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.
According to Campbell: “Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was apprehended abroad on June 27 and has been returned to Nigeria for trial. If the government botches Kanu’s trial, it risks further inflaming separatism.”

Kanu was apprehended on Sunday and repatriated to Nigeria to continue his trial.
The rearrest of the IPOB leader was disclosed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
Though Malami was yet to disclose where Kanu was picked up, but family of the IPOB leader claimed he was rearrested in Kenya.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he was brought before the Justice Binta Nyako-led Abuja Federal High Court to continue his trial.
Justice Nyako remanded Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, while adjourning the case.

Less than 72 hours before the planned mega rally in Lagos State, a-yet-to-be identified gunmen have attacked the Soka Ibadan residence of Yoruba Nation Agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.
It was gathered that the attack occurred on Thursday midnight when the assailants stormed the area.
The media page of Igboho’s spokesperson, Mr Olayomi Koiki, in a live video, alleged that some men adorning military uniforms carried out the attack.
According to the media aide, some persons were whisked away by the gunmen during the attack.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, orchestrated the killing of 60 people and the destruction of property in 55 violent attacks across the South East and South-South Zones within four months.

The Federal Government stated this in a letter to western diplomats.
The letter detailed the atrocities committed by members of IPOB on the alleged instruction of Kanu who was then in exile.
One of the attachments to the letter listed the attacks on lives and property by IPOB in some parts of the country between January and April 2021.
With several of Kanu’s broadcasts from Europe, there were concerns in official quarters that some western countries were justifying IPOB’s violent acts under the guise of the group’s pursuit of self-determination.
According to the “demarche” from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to some western countries, the Federal Government objected to a statement by an agency of a western nation whose government had noted and admitted that the creation of Eastern Security Network (ESN), based on its own understanding, was to combat insecurity.
The Federal Government, in its letter, however, considered the statement (by the western nation) as ” justifying the establishment of a militia by a non-state actor and glossing over the destructive and violent acts of IPOB and the ESN.”
” In under four months this year, IPOB has carried out over fifty-five (55) violent acts in various parts of Southeast Nigeria killing scores of people and destroying many properties.”
“Indeed it would seem that the position of the (western nation) seems to have further emboldened Nnamdi Kanu the self-confessed leader of IPOB.
” As recently as 22nd April 2021, broadcasting online from his base in London, Mr. Kanu has issued series of instructions to his militia and other members of the outlawed organization, on acts of violence to be carried out within the territory of Nigeria,” the Federal Government stated in the letter.
The letter made copious references to some of the threats issued by Kanu thus: “Our madness has just begun.
” Every night, young men will not sleep, you will come out, at the starting of every road that leads to every populated area under human habitation to make sure that appropriate roadblocks are put in place to slow them down so we can catch them (Fulanis) and kill them.
” That is what we want you to do. Obiano (Governor of Anambra State) from today onwards, anywhere you are seen in public you will be attacked …. Obiano, … you are a dead man walking.
“Any landlord that gives accommodation or rents his house or her house to a Fulani person, to army personnel, to somebody who works for the police or DSS ….
“Kill them. If you see the army and the police in your place, kill all of them… Kill them.
“From today I am announcing, there will be no election in Anambra State. Every edifice of election in Anambra State will be destroyed. I am warning you in advance. There will be no election. There will be no campaign in Anambra State.
“Any vehicle you see, from tonight (22nd April 2021), 12 midnight to 5, destroy it completely. That is the time they (referring to Fulanis) move about abducting people. And we keep quiet. … What stops you young people from, once you see them coming around 4 am in the morning, you will block all every exits, set it on fire?”
” They will exhaust all the ammunition that they have, then we capture them alive and cut off their heads. All of them. Decapitate them,” the Federal Government further quoted Kanu’s alleged instructions to IPOB members.
The Federal Government also noted that members of the outlawed organization, in furtherance to these instructions, intensified their attacks on the specified targets.
According to the Federal Government, Kanu issues instructions from western capitals using Radio Biafra and members of the outlawed organization carry them out in Nigeria.
“For example, a day after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has confirmed to newsmen that Nnamdi Kanu has ordered members of the group to kill him and other South-East Governors, which orders were repeated on Radio Biafra, the private residence of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, in his hometown in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, was attacked and set ablaze and two of the security men attached to the house were killed,” the Federal Government said.
The letter then listed the IPOB attacks in the South East and South-South Zones:

1. Abia: Between January 26 and April 19, 2021, six policemen were killed while property worth huge sums were destroyed by IPOB members in coordinated attacks at Uratta junction, Aba North LGA; Omoba Police Station, Isiale-Ngwa South LGA; Abriba Community in Ohafia LGA, and Uzuakoli Police Station in Bende LGA.
2. Akwa Ibom: 25 persons, including security personnel, were killed in deliberate attacks on different locations across the state, between January 27 and April 19, 2021.
3. Cross River: Seven police officers were killed at Calabar-Ikom highway in Obubra and Yakur LGAs, on March 2, 2021, while a soldier was killed two days later on March 4 at a military checkpoint at Obubra Junction in Obubra LGA.
4. Delta: Between January 10 And April 14, IPOB members attacked and killed 11 persons including security personnel in Ughelli, Ndokwa East, Ezza South, Onicha, Ezza North, Ohaozara, Ohoukwu, LGAs.
5. Enugu: Three policemen were killed in attacks on different locations across the state between February 28 and April 18.
6. Imo: Between January 3 and April 24, 2021, IPOB members killed seven persons and injured many others in different attacks in Orlu, Obouo, Aboli Mbaise, Chitte Uboma, Isiala Mbano, Owerri, Njaba, Mbatoli, Oru East LGAs.
7. Rivers: On April 17, 2021, IPOB operatives killed an NSCDC operative on guard duty at Shell crude oil manifold in Elelewon village in Obio/Akpor LGA and injured many others.

The Federal Government also told the western nation that its position may seem to have further emboldened Kanu, adding that this may explain the increased tempo of attacks carried out by members of his group.
Kanu, who jumped bail in 2017 and fled the country, was arrested and re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

Cosby had spent the past two and a half years behind bars after being convicted in 2018 of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004.
In a dramatic decision on Wednesday, Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his 10 year sentence.
The court found that a previous prosecutor had made a deal with Cosby not to charge him in the case.
The court said the previous prosecutor’s decision not to charge Cosby led to his engagement in a civil lawsuit against him, giving testimony which was key in his later conviction.
“The circumstances before us here are rare, if not entirely unique,” the court said.
The justices said Cosby had suffered “far greater” due to the testimonies given at his two trials and rebuffed a suggestion that a third criminal trial be conducted. Instead, they wrote that overturning his conviction would be the only action that would suffice.
“A contrary result would be patently untenable. It would violate long-cherished principles of fundamental fairness. It would be antithetical to, and corrosive of, the integrity and functionality of the criminal justice system that we strive to maintain.”
“For these reasons, Cosby’s convictions and judgment of sentence are vacated, and he is discharged.”

Former Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, has agreed a three-year deal to join Premier League club Everton, Sky Sport reports.
Everton have been searching for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian re-joined Real Madrid a few weeks ago.
The Toffees agreed the deal with Benitez after talks with former Wolves manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.

Rev. John Joseph Hayab, State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna chapter, has said that the problem with Nigeria’s security is the lack of a sincere collaborative effort in solving it.
He explained that there is the need for those in leadership positions to listen to everyone ready to suggest a way out, not only the professionals, stressing that traditional leaders, religious leaders, association leaders and even the common people, youths, women and children all have a stake in the matter.
Speaking in Kaduna on Tuesday in a day peace and security summit, theme, “Nigeria’s insecurity: The Church’s response in the 21st Century”, organized by CAN in the state, Rev. Hayab said that it is against the background that the church in the state thought it wise to bring together pastors and church leaders together to deliberate and come out with practicable strategies within Christian teaching and biblical provisions meant to complement the government’s efforts in the great task of handling the challenge of insecurity.
According to Rev. Hayab, “I stand before you with every sense of thanks and encouragement for the incredible response to our call for this all-important summit. The reaction shows to the world our collective dissatisfaction about the insecurity challenges that we face and our common will to support all positive efforts firmly intended at bringing this ugly challenge to a permanent end.”

He noted that security challenges in Nigeria and Kaduna State, in particular, is not a new thing but a monster that people have been struggling very hard for decades to deal with, pointing out that every government has had its fair share of the experience.
He recalled that Kaduna state in 1987 witnessed students’ riot at the Kaduna State College of Education Kafanchan triggering religious intolerance, and then had the 1992 Zangon Kataf communal unrest, ignited by the relocation initiative of a market.
He added then came the 2000 Sharia crisis and the 2002 Miss World crisis and equally the 2011 post-election crisis, saying that the state witnessed series of bombings believed to be by the Boko Haram terrorist group.
The state chairman of CAN observed that security challenges in Kaduna State started taking a new form by the end of 2014 with banditry, cattle rustling, and guerilla attacks of towns and villages, especially in the southern part of the state which became worse by 2016.
To Rev. Hayab, the existing challenge is even more terrible with the advent of kidnapping, pointing out that the turn of events has affected the community, state and the nation terribly, saying that in all fairness, the current problem has adversely hit the body of Christ and humanity in general.
He explained that in 2019, CAN published records of kidnappings where it recorded a total of over five hundred (500) Christians who had been kidnapped, explaining that on record, CAN had about eighteen (18) pastors kidnapped with four (4) of them killed namely: Past. Jeremiah Omolara – Living Faith Church, Romi New Extension, Rev. Iliya Anto – Former Vice President of HEKAN Church, Rev. Fr. John Bako Shekwolo – St. Theresa Catholic Church, Ankwa, Kachia Local Government Area and Rev. Hosea Akuchi – Nasara Baptist Church, Guru.
He further explained that CAN gathered these records through a questionnaire developed and shared in one of her meetings with hundreds of pastors and relations of kidnapped victims with over 20 communities sacked from their communities as a result of their abductions.
He added that data gathered also revealed an approximated amount of money paid as ransom to have people freed within the period, on a survey, to be over three hundred million naira (N 300,000 000) as at 2019, saying that today, the amount has risen to over a billion naira with many victims’ dead and even more still in the hands of kidnappers.
He explained that when CAN presented the statistics, CAN was misinterpreted, stressing that a Kaduna state 2020 annual Security report released by government showed that their record did not capture the colossal damage that the spate of kidnapping has brought to bear on the population.
Rev. Hayab said government’s report as published stated that 937 people were killed by bandit and 1,972 kidnapped within the period, saying that the first quarter 2021 security report published by government reported by premium time, on the 30th of April 2021 indicates that 323 people were killed, and 949 people have been kidnapped,
CAN stated that it believed that the second quarter report that people are waiting for from the government may have a higher figure than what they already have.

“When I was approached to become national coach in 2020, I thought it was an honour and a challenge, but I was also aware of the pressure that would come upon me from the moment I was appointed, that pressure is only increasing now, and that is not a healthy situation for me, nor for the squad in the run-up to such an important match for the Dutch football on its way to World Cup qualification.”
Director of Football at the Dutch FA, Nico-Jan Hoogma, added: “Despite Frank’s efforts, the goal of reaching the quarterfinals was not reached. Our choice for Frank turned out differently than we hoped. Now I need to find a successor. Let it be clear that we are not satisfied. We would have probably made this same decision on our own in the next two days.”
De Boer was appointed in September 2020, after Ronald Koeman left to join Barcelona and signed a contract until 2022.
He took over a side which had already qualified for Euro 2020, but he became the first Netherlands boss to fail to win any of his first four matches.
