The Department of State Services (DSS) said on Saturday suspected terrorists planned to unleash terror on six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Eid- Kabir celebration.<br />

DSS said the plot was spearheaded by Islamic State of West Africa terrorists whose aim was to disrupt the Eid-Kabir celebration.<br />
<br />
It added that the plan was to conduct gun attacks and suicide bombings on FCT, Kano, Kaduna, Niger, Bauchi, Yobe and Borno States.<br />
<br />
Spokesperson for the DSS, Tony Opuiyo, who disclosed these in a statement, named one Husseini Mai-Tangaran as mastermind of the plan.<br />
<br />
He said the suspect had been on DSS and Nigeria Army radar since 2012, when he allegedly spearheaded the armed attacks on the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone I, on January 20, 2012, as well as other public places in Kano.<br />
<br />
The statement said: “Mai-Tangaran was also responsible for the deadly explosive attacks against worshippers at the Kano Central Mosque as well as an attack on a military formation in Yobe State in 2015, which claimed many of lives.<br />
<br />
“The suspect was arrested in Kano on August 31 and further exploitation led to the arrest of one Abdulkadir Mohammed by the Service on September 2, at Kantin Kwari Market, Fagge, Kano.<br />
<br />
“Mohammed was a fighter of the sect who left the conclave of the group in the Sambisa forest, to join ranks with Ismaila towards carrying out the attacks being planned by the group.<br />
<br />
“Also, another accomplice in the plot, one Muhammad Ali, was arrested on September 3, at Sheka area in Kumbotso area of the state.<br />
<br />
“Prior to his arrest, Ali was the financial courier of the group in Kano. He was one of the conduits through which funds and other material logistics were channeled to the group from foreign extremist elements/sponsors.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday disassociated himself from a group known as “Osinbajo Volunteers” which has started campaigning for his election as President in 2019.<br />

The group, which is recruiting volunteers for the project, wants Osinbajo to stand as presidential candidate in the 2019 election.<br />
<br />
While its website featured the activities of Osinbajo, the group exonerated the vice president, saying: “Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a people’s volunteer base for him.”<br />
<br />
Distancing Osinbajo from activities of the group the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, said on his Twitter handle “please disregard this website created by faceless people for mischievous purposes. It has absolutely nothing to do with the vice president.”

A former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has filed a divorce suit against his wife, Abiona, at the Ibadan Customary Grade C Court sitting in Mapo.<br />

<a name='more' id="more"></a>Onigbinde told the court that his wife is violent and stubborn, adding that she was unwilling to live harmoniously with him.<br />
<br />
When both appeared in court, the president of the court, Chief Odunade Adewuyi told the wife about the allegations leveled against her.<br />
<br />
When asked if she wanted the marriage to be dissolved, Mrs. Onigbinde replied in the negative, saying she did not know why a divorce suit was filed against her.<br />
<br />
The court said: “If his (Onigbinde) prayers are heard by the court, do you think the marriage should not be dissolved? Which steps did you take after your husband complained about these allegations? Does he like your attitude? Let us say you are the husband and your wife says he doesn’t want something, won’t you know?”<br />
<br />
The woman replied: “He said he doesn’t like it. He said I’m violent, but it is not so. I called the first child and told him about it. Also, I told my child and my husband’s elder brother. Our children went to beg him but he refused.”<br />
<br />
The president and other members of the court, Elder E.A. Ogundipe and Chief Raifu Raji, advised the woman to maintain peace with her husband.<br />
<br />
Before the court adjourned hearing in the case, Onigbinde asked if his life would be protected because he was nearly attacked when one of the children and her husband came to his house.

The Gunners had lost to both Stoke and Liverpool heading into the international break but they were never in trouble here as Welbeck inspired them to a 3-0 win against a poor Cherries side.<br />

Welbeck opened the scoring early on with a mistimed header before setting up Alexandre Lacazette and then completing his brace with a well-taken second.<br />

Manager Arsene Wenger recalled both of his summer signings in Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac and both impressed as Alexis Sanchez was only named on the bench.<br />

After losing 4-0 at Liverpool last time out, Welbeck settled any nerves with an early goal -- getting enough on Kolasinac's cross to divert the ball past Asmir Begovic with six minutes gone.<br />
<br />
Kolasinac, operating as a wing-back rather than in Wenger's back three, was causing problems for the Cherries defence and another marauding run culminated in Granit Xhaka stinging the palms of Begovic with a low drive.<br />

Mesut Ozil was next to test the former Chelsea goalkeeper, bending a free-kick towards the corner only for Begovic to push it clear.<br />

The second goal came just before the half-hour mark, Ozil playing a pinpoint pass to Lacazette, who exchanged passes with Welbeck before finishing well.<br />

Arsenal's club-record signing could have had a second soon after but Begovic recovered after hitting a clearance straight at Welbeck to dive at the feet of Lacazette as he looked to pounce.<br />
<br />
Wenger's men were rampant and only a block from Adam Smith, seemingly off his arm, kept out a Kolasinac volley after a smooth Arsenal attack.<br />
<br />
Bournemouth started the second half with more intent as Jermain Defoe headed against a post, only for Arsenal to go down the other end and wrap up the points.<br />

Lacazette robbed Bournemouth of possession and the ball broke for Aaron Ramsey who rolled a pass into Welbeck with the England international tucking home his second with a low finish.<br />
<br />
The former Manchester United man should have had his hat-trick on the hour mark but his attempted chip dropped wide of Begovic's goal.<br />
<br />
Welbeck was replaced with 15 minutes remaining as Sanchez was introduced to a mixed reception - the Chilean was soon into the action as he set up fellow substitute Olivier Giroud to again test Begovic.<br />

Arsenal saw the game out with relative ease, Petr Cech saving a late Joshua King header aside, to pick up their second win of the season having been on top for much of the contest.<br />

Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane scored twice as Manchester City eased past 10-man Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, winning 5-0 to move to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the afternoon matches as Sadio Mane was sent off.<br />

Sergio Aguero had opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola's side before Mane was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on home goalkeeper Ederson shortly before the break.<br />

Liverpool had started brightly, with Mohamed Salah providing early threat and a strike from distance by Alberto Moreno deflected wide of the target.<br />
<br />
But City soon hit back as Gabriel headed wide from a free kick, before Liverpool failed to capitalise when Salah won a dangerous set piece for the visitors after a crude Nicolas Otamendi challenge.<br />
<br />
Kevin De Bruyne forced Simon Mignolet into action with a low shot with an open game still in its first 10 minutes before neat work by David Silva and Otamendi almost gave Gabriel a chance to burst into the box.<br />
<br />
As the 15-minute mark approached, Fernandinho fired in a 30-yard effort that Mignolet tipped away, and then Firmino got a touch on a Jordan Henderson ball into the area but Ederson saved.<br />
<br />
Trent Alexander-Arnold was booked for fouling De Bruyne on the left but the Belgium international's delivery was easily cleared.<br />
<br />
Salah, having a bright game, burst down the right for Liverpool only to send a tame cross straight to the waiting Ederson -- and with 24 minutes gone he was made to pay as De Bruyne played in Aguero, who rounded Mignolet to become the Premier League's all-time leading non-European scorer.<br />
<br />
Within moments, Salah was troubling City down the right again and this time produced a better cross which Ederson did well to claim.<br />
<br />
After 28 minutes, Emre Can curled an effort well off target after Fernandinho had been booked for bringing down Mane on the edge of the box and, on the half-hour, Ederson made a good stop to deny Salah after he had found space inside the City area.<br />
<br />
Gabriel Jesus seized on an error from Ragnar Klavan, who recovered well to block his shot, and then John Stones, forward for the corner, saw his strike loop away off Mignolet's foot.<br />
<br />
After 37 minutes Liverpool were down to 10 men when Mane, chasing a ball over the top, clattered into Ederson with a foot raised and was shown a straight red card by referee Jon Moss.<br />
<br />
Following a long stoppage, Ederson was stretchered off and replaced by Claudio Bravo as the fourth official indicated eight additional minutes at the end of the first half.<br />
<br />
With two of those minutes played, City thought they had doubled their lead when Gabriel headed home -- but the offside flag was up. His frustration was short-lived, however, as superb play by De Bruyne down the right brought a cross that he powered past Mignolet to all but wrap up the points.<br />
<br />
Visiting manager Jurgen Klopp made a change at the break, bringing on Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain for Salah, but City grabbed a third after 53 minutes when Fernandinho threaded a fine ball through to Aguero, who unselfishly set up Fernandinho to get his second goal of the afternoon.<br />
<br />
Guardiola replaced the striker with Leroy Sane soon afterwards and then Klopp made another change, introducing former City player James Milner for Georginio Wijnaldum.<br />
<br />
With the home side coasting on their three-goal lead, Klopp made his final switch, bringing on youngster Dominic Solanke for Firmino, and as the match entered its final 20 minutes City made another change as Otamendi was replaced by Eliaquim Mangala.<br />
<br />
Mignolet made a good stop to prevent an own goal when Bernard Mendy's low cross from the left came off Klavan and was heading into the corner before the keeper stuck out an arm to deflect it to safety.<br />
<br />
But City did make it four with 13 minutes left as Mendy fired in another dangerous cross and substitute Sane smacked in a first-time finish past Mignolet.<br />
<br />
A frustrated Can was booked for a late challenge on Aguero, and there was still time for further damage to be inflicted on Liverpool as Sane curled a sumptuous last-minute strike high beyond the demoralised Mignolet.<br />

Dike, a 300-level Physics student at the University of Port Harcourt, was apprehended by a vigilante group on his way to dispose off the body of 8-year-old Victory Chikqmso, whom he allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered. .<br />

He, however, escaped at the state CID, barely 24 hours after being paraded. But the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Mr. Peter Ogunyanwo, said the culprit was rearrested in Jos, after breaking into a house in Barkin Ladi to steal. The suspect allegedly broke into the home of an unnamed resident and stabbed him in what appears to be a robbery incident.<br />

Dike while speaking with journalists, said he travelled to Jos from Port Harcourt through a trailer that loaded goods to Jos. “I came to Jos on August 21, 2017 because I was trying to run away from the alleged ritual offense I was said to have committed, but I am not a ritual killer.<br />

I only had sex with the girl and cut off her body while trying to escape from the environment, but I am not a ritual killer,” he said.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Governing Council of the institution sacked Oyewunmi alongside his deputy, Adebowale Adeyemi, for various alleged fraudulent activities on Friday .</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He was accused of demanding N50,000 from 2003 modular year students of Political Science Education, who were poised to process their results while Adeyemi-Suenu was accused of “unilaterally changing the status of students earlier asked to withdraw from the university from ‘withdraw’ to ‘good standing.”</div>

The All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State has expressed disappointment with the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan’s comment about President Muhammadu Buhari not re-contesting in the 2019 presidential election, describing her comment as hasty.<br />

The party noted that by all standards of decorum, the minister had betrayed her loyalty to the administration in which she was appointed to serve, noting that under normal circumstances, she should have resigned her position before making her comments.<br />

The Organising Secretary of the Adamawa State Chapter of the APC, Ahmed Lawan, stated this on Friday in Yola while giving the position of the party on the 2019 presidential election.<br />
<br />
The party said its endorsement of President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo should they decide to contest the 2019 election had yet to change.<br />
<br />
Lawan said Alhassan could have waited since 2019 was just around the corner before voicing her comment, which he said was aimed at kickstarting the presidential election bid of another member of the party.<br />
<br />
Chiding the minister, the party further said her focus right now should be on governance.<br />
<br />
He said, “Even if President Buhari is not going to contest in 2019, it is too hasty for her to pronounce. She should have waited until next year. If Mr. President then says he’s not going to contest, then she can say what she has said.<br />
<br />
“This is coming earlier than expected. How does she want Mr. President to tell her he’s going to re-contest in 2019 when we are still in 2017? Even before he finally decided to contest in 2015, did Mr. President say he was going to contest? No. It was people who piled pressure on him to contest.<br />
<br />
“We all know he said he was not going to contest [in any election again]. It was the Yoruba people and some people in the North who pressured him into contesting.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Lawan said if President Buhari decides not to contest in 2019, there was still no vacancy in Aso Rock because Osinbajo remained a better alternative to lead the country.<br />

He said, “Even if Buhari decides not to contest, we already have a credible alternative in his Vice-President, Prof. Osinbajo. So the Villa is not vacant come 2019. If Buhari is not going to contest, Osinbajo is there. If indeed we are talking about one Nigeria, then we have to display it in 2019.<br />

“Forget about this man coming from the North and this other man coming from the South. The important thing to ask is who will better serve Nigerians. Buhari has already laid a very good foundation for Nigerians with his anti-corruption war.<br />
<br />
“If Buhari says he can no longer continue, we already have somebody with the same mind, the same thinking like Baba Buhari. The future of Nigeria is what we should be thinking about, not to bring somebody who will only think of himself, his wives and his family.”<br />
<br />
The party also said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would not be fair to the party if he was talking of running for the presidential election of 2019 now “when the main focus of all party members should be governance.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, a former Kwara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, and another party chieftain, Mr. Nurudeen Adeyemi, have urged the Federal Government not to vilify Alhassan.<br />
<br />
Oyedepo and Adeyemi stated that Alhassan’s position was in consonance with democratic principles of freedom of speech and belief, adding that her position exemplified principle and tenacity to one’s ideology in politics.<br />
<br />
Speaking during a summit at Esie, Kwara State, on Friday, Oyedepo said the minister should not be vilified, adding that her position was a good development in the annals of Nigeria’s politics.<br />
<br />
He said, “It is a good development. If you can be in government and talk against that government, I think it is a very good development. People should maintain their ideologies and principles.<br />
<br />
“She believes that she has independence of mind. She should not be vilified. The mark of civilisation is that the President should still retain her as minister. It is a good development for our politics.”<br />
<br />
Also, Adeyemi said nobody, including the minister, should be threatened or crucified for holding an opinion consistent with democratic tenets.<br />
<br />
He also advised that politics should be based on ideology and ideas, adding that Nigerians should stop the politics of persecution and personality.<br />
<br />
Adeyemi said, “It is a freedom of expression. You should be open to criticism for and against. Democracy means free speech. I cannot censor anybody on what they have to say. When you come out openly with your ideology, you should expect people to clap for you and others to be against it.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Of recent Atiku has made some statements to the effect that or create an impression of the failure of the party and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“At that level, good party members, especially of his status should not be seen to be making such public statements even if those criticisms are factual, whereas in this case some of these statements were misleading and incorrect.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“These statements give an impression that there is a crack in the house and in the party or that the party is not doing all that which it ought to.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have been here to respond to certain statements because as leaders, we shouldn’t be seen as joining issues in the public domain. But since he has made a public statement, the public is entitled to get the other side or be told the truth.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Yes, Atiku like many others made certain contributions in the 2015 elections and in building the party. But the bigger picture which he gave is not correct. I know that in the North West zone which I represent, we had eight presidential campaign rallies and Atiku did not attend any.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Yes, he added value by his personality, but there are so many other members of the party, who made financial contribution and added electoral value. North West is the most populous zone in terms of the APC membership and in terms of electoral victory, not only to the president, but we have seven state governors and 20 out of the 21 senators in the zone are from the APC.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“I think we are critical and major stakeholders in this party. So one of the reasons why I am making this statement is to calm our members in these states and not to be distracted and that APC is well on ground as all efforts are being made to solidify those gains and we shouldn’t be distanced by such unfortunate statements which are suggesting that the party is neglecting a particular person or group persons.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Some of these things are processes and you don’t expect everything to happen at the same time. More importantly, there should some decorum in what we do. People who have attained those high privileged positions should know that they have attained certain status in the society and so, they cannot afford to talk anyhow.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“On the issue of consultation by the Mr. President, though I don’t work in the Villa, it is an open secret that whoever visited the president is no longer a secret. Whoever is meeting the president of Nigeria more than 20 people will know and the information will be shared.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“As a matter of fact, several times, Atiku Abubakar has visited Mr. President and what they discussed, we don’t know but we know that he has visited. I am sure he is not just there to greet him. Those two leaders will meet without discussing one thing or the other.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“On party meetings, I know that immediately after convention where Buhari was nominated as the party flag bearer, there were a number of leadership meetings which he participated. Also, there were formal party meetings, some of which were held in the Villa and he was present.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“There were some meetings here at the National secretariat including two NEC meetings which he attended and other functions of the party. So the claim that the party only met once is not correct.”</div>
