The social media site seemingly unable to find a buyer and losing money has struggled amid competition from the likes of Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, says it expects to book about $10 million to $20 million in workforce restructuring charges. 
 
Twitter shares have tumbled 27 per cent in the past month as possible suitors have wandered away, rose 4 per cent before the opening bell Thursday. 
 
The San Francisco company said it expects to take $10 million to $20 million (U.S.) in charges as it lays off more than 300 of its 3,860 workers. 
 
“We have a clear plan, and we’re making the necessary changes to ensure Twitter is positioned for long-term growth,” CEO Jack Dorsey said in a company release.

Nigeria’s senior women national team, may stay away from the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon, over ongoing issues with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The players are reportedly not happy, because the federation has not paid their outstanding qualifying match allowances and bonuses. 
 
“The players are unhappy that to date the NFF has only paid N10,000 qualifying bonuses to each of the players to enable them to travel back to their respective homes after April’s successful qualifying match against the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in Abuja,” an unnamed source told SuperSport. 
 
“The NFF had cited financial challenges, promising to pay their bonuses and allowances soon but that’s yet to see the light of day. 
 
“They want all the outstanding allowances paid forthwith or they will stay away from the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon. 
 
“They are not happy that NFF has continued to treat them as outcasts compared with the male counterparts, Super Eagles who were handsomely rewarded with Four and Five Thousand Dollars respectively for a draw and win in the failed 2017 Afcon qualifying campaign. 
 
“They have told whoever that cares to listen that their presence in camp as well as training for the championship should not be misconstrued as weakness or evidence of their preparedness to participate in the biennial football competition. 
 
“They said the country is in for a big shock unless the federation does the needful by quickly paying off their backlog of match bonuses. 
 
“The players said they are ready to cooperate with the head coach, Florence Omagbemi, to successfully defend the African title but on condition that their arrears of bonuses are paid forthwith.” 
 
The competition runs from November 19 to December 3 and the Falcons, who are the defending champions, have been pitched in Group B together with arch-rivals Ghana, Mali and newcomers Kenya.</div>

Not less than four prominent Nigerians have turned down President Muhammadu Buhari's appointment and nomination since May 29, 2015.

Apart from the disappointment from the APC chieftains and governors over the inability of the Presidency to inform them about the nomination from their States, some of the nominees are unaware of the appointments as well. 
 
Here are four Nigerians who have rejected President Buhari's offer: 
 
 1. Usman Bugaje He rejected President Buhari’s ambassadorial nomination, and he was convinced not to mention his decision to the media. 
 
He said: “Regarding the published nomination for an ambassadorial posting, I have not spoken to the press and may not do so anytime soon. 
 
“I thank those who think me fit for the job, but I have so much in my hands already, especially the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), which is the only broad platform in the North driving development. I have weighed the options and have decided to remain home and continue the struggle for development and good governance. 
 
Thank you for the concern, support and prayers”. 
 2. Dame Pauline Tallen is the former deputy governor of Plateau state. She is also a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) board of trustees. She turned down the offer for nomination for ambassadorial appointment to attend to her ailing husband. 
 
“It is a hard decision I had to take but I have to, because he is my primary responsibility,” she said. 
 
3. Professor Akintunde Ibitayo Akinwande is a Nigerian American engineering professor at the electrical engineering and computer science department of Massachusetts institute of technology. 
 
Professor Akinwande rejected an offer by the president to serve in the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as chairman. 
 
Akinwande was said to have turned down the offer based on the alleged fact that he was not consulted before the nomination was made. 
 4. Najatu Muhammad 
 
The federal government on Saturday, February 13, 2015, appointed Muhammad as the chairperson of the governing board of the Dutse federal university through a paid advertorial on a national daily. He rejected the offer by saying: “Sir, I Najatu Muhammad wishes (wish) to thank you so much for considering me worthy of being appointed the chairperson of Dutse Federal University. 
 
“It’s however unfortunate that I was not consulted before the announcement in the media. I also regret that I have to use the same medium to announce that I can’t accept the appointment for personal reasons.”

Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has warned that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, risk going to jail if they refused to declare his faction’s candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, as candidate of the PDP for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

Sheriff, who was represented at a press conference yesterday by the National Secretary of his faction, Professor Wale Oladipo, stated that Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court in Abuja had recently confirmed Ibrahim as candidate of the party and directed INEC to recognise him as such. 
 
He warned that recognising another person as candidate of the PDP would be contempt of court, adding that he would as well file contempt charge against INEC, if his candidate was not recognized and his name published. 
 
Ibrahim emerged from a parallel primary election ‎conducted by Sheriff’s faction, few days after the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee produced Mr Eyitayo Jegede as candidate for the election. 
 
The former Borno governor pointed out that the crisis bedeviling the PDP, “has assumed a national security issue,” adding that democracy was being threatened because of the failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the leading opposition PDP, to chart a way forward towards deepening democracy in the country. 
 
His words, “We are mindful of the expectations of Nigerians and hope that Nigerians have interest in the PDP. Sheriff and Makarfi are determined to do the reconciliation to a logical conclusion but due process must be followed. 
 
“Dividend of democracy depends on the vibrancy of the ruling and the opposition parties. So, we must make sacrifices to ensure our democracy survives. It is more important for Jimoh Ibrahim to contest as candidate of the PDP than lose Ondo State.”

The Slovenian Ivo Sajh led Pillars to the semi-finals of the 2009 CAF Champions League, while Ghanaian coach Malik Jaber also handled the club. 
 
Pillars are without a coach after Mohammed Babaganaru quit at the end of the past season. 
 
“We have received applications from coaches in Nigeria and overseas,” disclosed Babangida. 
 
“Very soon we will go through these applications. We hope to then interview the short listed coaches very soon.” 
 
Babangida is back in his second spell as Pillars boss and he admitted he is under pressure to meet the huge expectations on the club. 
 
“I have done it before but the expectations are high from the fans and from the people of Kano State,” he lamented.

The United States police have arrested a 66-year-old Nigerian nanny, Oluremi Oyindasola, for murder.

Oyindasola of Glenarden, Maryland has also been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, resulting in death and other offences. 
 
This is coming after she force-fed an eight-month-old baby girl to death. 
 
According to Prince George’s County Police, a home surveillance system recorded the accused taking a nap when the crying infant, eight-month-old Enita Salubi, approached her in a toddler walker. 
 
Col. Harry Bond with Prince George’s CountyPolice said Oyindasola unsuccessfully tried to feed the child, then when she got frustrated with the infant not wanting to eat, she proceeded to pour a large amount of white liquid directly inside the victim’s mouth. 
 
Bond said, “On October 24th, at about 4.10pm, she forcefully poured the two bottles of what looks to be milk down the baby’s mouth, causing her to not be able to breathe and suffocating her. 
 
“The baby had been rushed to a hospital after she became unresponsive at home. She was pronounced dead a short time later. 
 
“An autopsy on Tuesday revealed the baby’s cause of death was asphyxiation. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. 
 
“The preliminary investigation revealed the injuries to the baby occurred while in the sole care and custody of Oyindasola. 
 
“Oyindasola is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.”

The Presidency says the World Bank’s Doing Business 2017 Report, released on Tuesday is an indication that the government’s reform initiatives are yielding positive results.

“The Buhari administration is gratified that the various reform initiatives put in place towards instituting a positive business environment is slowly but gradually yielding some dividends. 
 
“Nigeria’s ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business remains static, halting a falling trend in the past several years,’’ the Vice Presidential spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, said, via a release issued on Thursday in Abuja. 
 
 
Akande recalled that the latest report had ranked Nigeria 169 out of 189 countries in the overall Ease of Doing Business rank. 
 
He described the ranking as “a positive indication that the focus and tenacity of President Muhammadu Buhari to reposition the nation’s business and economic environment is working and on course. 
 
“While Nigeria’s position remains the same as at last year on the index ranking, it is encouraging that Nigeria has recorded some positive outlooks in four critical areas of the ranking.’’ 
 
Akande listed the areas as: Starting a Business; Dealing with Construction Permits; Registering Property and Access to Credit. 
 
He noted that the objectivity and reliability of the report coming from an international development institution, lent weight to the milestone recorded in particular on the distance to frontier (DTF) metric. 
 
Akande observed that on the metric, the country’s score improved slightly from 44.02 in Doing Business 2016 to 44.63 in Doing Business 2017. 
 
According to the World Bank report, the improvements noted mean that last year, Nigeria’s business regulatory environment as captured by the Doing Business indicators improved slightly in absolute terms. 
 
According to the report “the country is decreasing the gap with the global regulatory frontier. 
 
“This is a morale booster for stakeholders involved in the efforts aimed at removing existing bottlenecks in the business environment.’’ 
 
Akande declared that the observation by the World Bank was recognition of the bold initiatives and untiring work of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. 
 
He said it was particularly achieved through the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. 
 
He said Buhari in August had set-up PEBEC, which had an active collaboration with the private sector, “to remove the bottlenecks that stifle businesses and create the right enabling environment and investment climate.” 
 
PEBEC has nine ministers, the Head of the Service and the CBN governor as members and is mandated to give progress reports to the Federal Executive Council every month. 
 
The council’s secretariat with a team comprising staff from both public and private sector, is supported by knowledge experts and collaborates across ministries, departments and agencies as well as private sector stakeholders to achieve reform objectives. 
 
According to Akande, Buhari is absolutely committed to boosting reform activities so as to continue to arrest the past decline, where the country fell from number 94 in 2006 to number 169 in 2016. 
 
He said the reforms would positively project the business climate to an enviable position in the international business community. 
 
“With the reform efforts being put in place now, indications are that in subsequent years, Nigeria will scale up significantly in the ranking,’’ he declared.

Mourinho's charge was confirmed by the FA on Thursday on their official website. 
 
Mourinho was ruled to have breached FA rules for commenting on referee Anthony Taylor ahead of his side's goalless draw with Liverpool on October 17. 
 
The Portuguese said appointing Taylor for the game at Anfield had put 'pressure' on the Manchester-based official and it would be 'difficult for him to have a very good performance'. 
 
A statement on the FA's website reads: "Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct following comments made ahead of Manchester United's trip to Liverpool FC earlier this month." 
 
"It is alleged his comments were improper and or brought the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3 (1). </div>

Nigeria table tennis men's team lost 3-2 to fiercest rivals Egypt on Wednesday in the final of the 2016 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Senior Championship holding in Morocco.

The Nigerian team was represented by Olympic veteran Segun Toriola, quarter-finalist at the Rio games Aruna Quadri and Bode Abiodun. 
 
In a release by ITTF-Africa, the game lived up to its billing as both teams went neck and neck right from the off before the Egyptians finally nicked it at the end. 
 
And one of the stand out performance of the day was Mohamed El-Beiali who came from 2-0 down to beat Toriola 3-2. 
 
One of the Egyptian men's team players Ahmed Saleh described the win against Nigeria as mission accomplished. 
 
“We knew from the start of the match that Segun Toriola is a dangerous player and we planned that we could take the lead 2-1 and hoping that Omar Assar would defeat Aruna Quadri in the fourth game. 
 
"Unfortunately Omar Assar lost but we were confident that Mohamed El-Beiali would deliver and I am so happy that he did it for us," Saleh said. 
 
"This victory is sweet because that was our main mission in Morocco to reclaim our men’s team title which we lost to Nigeria at the 2015 African Games in Congo Brazzaville. I am so happy that I am part of this team and I will cherish this victory for a long time.”

Saraki had criticised the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), which filed the charges against him, for not inviting him for questioning on the charges before it filed them. 
 
Although, actual amendments to the Act were done by the house of representatives and passed on May 31, the senate concurred with the house and passed the bill on Thursday. 
 
Early in the year, the upper legislative chamber‎ had sought to amend the Act, but a public outcry forced it to shelve it. Although, a similar bill has been reintroduced. 
 
The senate passed 14 amendments to the Act. 
‎ 
It amended section 3 of the Act thus: “Upon complaint(s) of any breach or where it appears to the bureau that there is a breach of the provision or this Act, the person concerned shall be given particulars of such non-compliance or breaches to explain before any reference to the tribunal.” 
 
This implies that the CCB cannot immediately refer a matter to the CCT without giving a public officer a notice; one of the contentions of Saraki. 
 
Section 1 (4) which was expunged, and replaced with “the chairman and members shall serve for a term of five years subject to renewal for one further term only”. 
 
Section 4 (2) was amended to substitute the word “president” with “the national assembly” as the one to confer powers on the bureau and the tribunal. 
 
The senate fixed the age of entry to the bureau at 50, and the number of members of the tribunal to sit in judgment on a case at three. 
 
Saraki had challenged the composition of the members of the tribunal handling his trial. 
 
Only Danladi Umar, the chairman and a member of the tribunal, have been‎ handling his trial.

The scheduled trial of an ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, for an alleged fraud of N47.6bn was stalled on Thursday due to the absence of the prosecutor, Mr. Festus Keyamo.

Keyamo wrote to the Federal High Court in Lagos, where the trial was taking place, to ask for an adjournment on the grounds that his main witness was not available for Thursday. 
 
Consequently, the trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, adjourned the case till December 13 and 14, 2016 for trial. 
 
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had, on April 18, 2016, arraigned Tompolo in absentia on 22 counts of alleged N47.6bn fraud. 
 
Also arraigned in absentia in relation to the alleged fraud were six brothers of a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi. They are Igo, Julius, Victor, Norbert, Emmanuel and Clement. 
 
Tompolo, Igo, Julius, Victor, Norbert, Emmanuel and Clement were declared as being “now at large” when the charges were read before Justice Buba on April 18. 
 
But Akpobolokemi himself, two females – Josephine Otuaga and Rita Uruakpa – and one Kime Engozu, who were also listed as defendants in the amended charge, were present in court on April 18 to answer to the charges. 
 
The other defendants in the charge are five companies, namely: Mieka Dive Training Institute Ltd/GTE; Oyeinteke Global Network Limited; Wabod Global Resources Ltd.; Boloboere Properties Estate Ltd.; Gokaid Marine Oil and Gas Ltd.; and Watershed Associated Resources. 
 
The charges bordered on conspiracy, advance fee fraud and money laundering. But the defendants who were in court pleaded not guilty to all of them. 
 
At the hearing on Thursday, one of the defence counsels, Mr. Oyesoji Oyeleke (SAN), informed the court of a preliminary objection he filed on behalf of his client, challenging the competence of the charges. 
 
Oyeleke is contending that the prosecution had failed to depose to an affidavit stating that it had concluded its investigation before filing the charges. 
 
For this failure he is urging the court to strike out the entire 22 counts filed by the EFCC against his client. 
 
Another defence counsel, Mr. Sylvester Ekweme, representing one of the Akpobolokemi’s brothers, Clement, also informed the court of his client’s bail application pending to be heard. 
Ekweme said his client had been in detention since April. 
 
Justice Buba adjourned till November 10, 2016 to take the two pending applications. 
 
Among other things, the EFCC alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to defraud the Federal Government between December 2, 2014 and April 10, 2015, by inducing the Federal Government to deliver an aggregate sum of N11.9bn to them. 
 
The EFCC claimed that the accused persons induced the Federal Government by “falsely pretending to the Federal Government that a parcel of land and its appurtenances situated at Mieka Dive Training Institute, Kurutie, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State had been acquired by NIMASA for the temporary campus of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko.” 
 
By allegedly making fraudulent and false representations to the Federal Government, the EFCC said, the defendants violated Section 1 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud related Offences Act 2006 and were liable to punishment under Section 1(3) of the same Act. 
 
In another count, the EFCC accused the defendants of fraudulently converting a sum of N13,027,564,822 belonging to NIMASA to their private use sometime in 2014. 
 
The offence is said to be contrary to Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012. 
 
The defendants were also accused of swindling the Federal Government to the tune of N11.940bn, by presenting a forged Certificate of Customary Right of Occupancy of Bendel State of Nigeria dated May 6, 2014 to NIMASA on the false claim that the forged document was genuine and issued by Warri South-West Local Council, Delta State. 
 
For the alleged offence, the EFCC said the defendants were liable to being punished under Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap. M17, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

Police on Wednesday uncovered a den in Ogun State believed to be operated by fraudsters and used for organised crimes.

Located inside the bush at Abule Ifa area of Siun, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, many victims were thought to have fall victims to their pranks 
 
Leading others, including the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, said two suspects had been arrested and would be made to face the consequences.

A Place For Organised Crime 
 
The building from outside looks like a place where movies are shot, but on the inside, it bore marks of a place where illegal activities occur. 
 
It is located inside the forest, hidden from the prying eyes of other members of the community. 
 
A cursory look at the buildings revealed that the den was equipped with underground bunkers, no doubt many unsuspecting members of the public must have been duped of their money and other valuables. 
 
“I think you have gone around yourself and see some funny stuffs they put in place. 
 
“This is not a theatre place. This is a place for organised crime, where fraudsters use to deceive innocent citizens and part with large sums of money. 
 
“I have gotten a lot of report about them and we have been monitoring them and we have successfully arrested two of them,” Mr Ali told reporters. 
 
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the den. They claimed to have been in the business for months now. 
 
One of the victims who was lured into the den narrated his ordeal. 
 
He said: “When I got inside, they were in the dark and they were talking to me saying that they wanted to make me the richest person in this country. In this wise, I asked them what my next action should be. 
 
“They said that they will cut down and Iroko tree, calve a box for me and that I will have to look for a house where nobody will enter and put it there. 
 
“They said I will have to put 40 million Naira there and that it will be converted to dollars”. 
 
In a related development, the State Police Command also paraded a 32-year-old house-wife and mother of one alongside two others for allegedly hiring hired assassins to eliminate her husband over unresolved marital issues 
 
The woman in question, Oluchi Onyebuchi, has, however, debunked this claim asking the police to investigated the claims and ascertain her culpability or otherwise.

The federal government has explained why it wants to take a $30.54 billion (about N9.61 trillion) loan, which is believed to be the biggest single external loan request by any government in recent history.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who on Tuesday requested the National Assembly’s accelerated approval of the borrowing plan, said it would include a $575 million World Bank loan. 
 
The total loan will fund a number of key projects in the country, he said. 
 
The projects cut across key sectors of the economy, with special emphasis on infrastructure development, agriculture, health, education, water supply, growth and employment generation, poverty reduction through social safety net programmes and governance and financial management reforms. 
 
Mr. Buhari said the proposed programmes would receive about $11.274 billion of the total loan, while special infrastructure projects would take $10.69 billion. Euro bonds will take $4.4 billion and federal budget support, $3.5 billion, he said. 
 
Details of the projects to be executed with the World Bank loan include polio eradication support and routine immunization project ($125 million); community and social development project ($75 million), and Nigerian states health programme investment project ($125 million). 
 
Others include State education programme investment project ($100 million), Nigerian youth employment and social support project ($100 million), and Fadama 11 project ($50 million).

If you have the slightest opportunity of going to his office the ‘perfection’ of the settings and the intelligence of the man will make you wonder what you have been doing with your time even if you get to read three books every month. </blockquote>
<blockquote>You wonder if they make the kind of mistakes the imperfect people like us make. 
That is one of the reasons the elementary PR mistakes by Alder Consulting on the Bobrisky saga was shocking but instructive. </blockquote>
<blockquote>For those that did not know, let me do a little recap. A member of staff of Alder Consulting was invited to speak at a conference in Abuja alongside personal assistant to President Buhari, Bashir Ahmad and the new social media sensation, Bobrisky. As many of you know, Bobrisky is a cross-dresser, we cannot say what his sexual orientation is, many are convinced he is gay; others dismiss his antics as mere publicity stunts. It is clear that most of us who see ourselves as ‘perfect’ straight, prim and proper would rather die than associate with someone like Bobrisky. </blockquote>
<blockquote>The personal assistant to the president pulled out of the conference with little or no drama so also is the staff of Alder Consulting but with ‘plenty’ drama. 
First, Alder Consulting issued a press statement on its company letterhead giving long reasons its staff wouldn’t be ‘blessing’ the conference with her presence because Bobrisky is on it. </blockquote>
<blockquote>As a PR and marketing person, that was an elementary mistake from an industry ‘giant’. 
The staff of Alder Consulting would have pulled out without the accompany drama. Reached out to the organisers, tell them your genuine reason for pulling out or give the standard official response of ‘unforeseen circumstances’ for the ‘unavoidable absence’. 
Why the statement and the request for the organiser to issue a statement on its social media page that Alder’s staff will not be attending the event? </blockquote>
<blockquote>The statement paints Alder Consulting in bigotry light, something that is clearly not part of their ethos. </blockquote>
<blockquote>Mr. Alder, the CEO of Alder Consulting tweets religious insights on Sunday. His deep knowledge of the bible will make many pastors go back to bible school. And as many people know the two rules Jesus bequeathed his disciples were ‘Love your neighbour as yourself and love God’. A kind of love that is not judgemental. </blockquote>
<blockquote>With the statement by Bobrisky, Alder Consulting led by Mr. Alder has violated the law of love and come across as judgemental. </blockquote>
<blockquote> 
Let’s assume Bobrisky has some issues, take to heart the Alder’s statement and commit suicide leaving behind a note saying Alder Consulting made him commit suicide; how will the company play up it social responsibility side in the future? </blockquote>
<blockquote>The most painful part of the mistake is, now, if you search for Alder Consulting on Google, Bobrisky pops up. The same brand/person your ethos forbids you from associating with is now popping up in your Google search. How cool is that? 
Some of us need not kill ourselves when we make mistakes, if the seemly ‘perfect’ people are making mistakes that are so elementary you wouldn’t dare make; it goes to show you are not alone in your ‘mortality’, we are all human after all.

According to Reuters, the case has highlighted a growing crackdown on foreigners living in Japan without visas and prompted demands for her release. 
 
The agency quoted Obueza’s lawyer as saying she was detained two weeks ago after authorities turned down an appeal against her asylum rejection. 
 
Obueza, 48, campaigns for asylum seekers and the 4,700 people on “provisional release” from immigration detention – a status that lets foreigners out from detention but bars them from working and travelling freely. 
 
Her arrest is part of a wider campaign by the justice ministry, which in September 2015 said it would take steps to reduce the 60,000 foreigners living in Japan without visas. 
 
People on provisional release, many of whom have lived in Japan for decades, have been among those targeted, according to Reuters. 
 
“Elizabeth was targeted and detained for being an activist,” said immigration lawyer Shoichi Ibusuki. “I want her released immediately.” 
 
The crackdown on people like Obueza comes even as people on provisional release, despite being legally unable to work, power Japan’s construction and manufacturing sectors as companies scramble to find workers in the worst labour shortage in decades. 
 
“Elizabeth is held in solitary because she’s an activist and immigration officials don’t want her causing trouble,” said Mitsuru Miyasako, head of the provisional release association in Japan, a group representing refugees and immigrants. 
 
“Locking someone up alone in a tiny room is to ruin them psychologically.” 
 
Isolation has not stopped Obueza from fighting for detainees’ rights. 
 
“When I go outside my room, I go around the windows and talk to the others,” Obueza said. “I advise them what to do.”

SayRah said: "RESPECT THE DANCER! At this point people need to take their time to listen and read before commenting. This entire situation about Nigerian artists disrespecting dancers is far beyond 'DavidO'.@kaffydance used the reoccurring events of Davids disrespect as an example of how a lot of Nigerian musicians (not all) do not appreciate dancers and our contributions to their crafts ( stage, music Videos or even promo social media videos). Being that I was part of the first incident at the One Africa Music Fest ( NewYork) I know how I felt when David decided right as we were walking on stage that he no longer wanted dancers. I personally felt disrespected and felt like he had no regards for my artistry as a dancer. At this point we all were upset and had to change right in the stadium, in front of all these people. Then @kaffydance tells his manager that he'll still have to pay the dancers because of our time wasted ( dressed and on stage) then his manager runs back to us and said " He still wants dancers, he just didn't want them for the first song. Tell them to get on for the next songs" Irritated and stressed we still got up there and did what we had to do. 
 
"Fast forward a few weeks later, Kaffy had to pay the dancers out of her own pocket. I know this Cus I was there and I did the transfer to the dancers. Kaffy NEVER GOT PAID! While David's manager kept telling her he'll pay soon only for David to finally tell her that he's NOT PAYING! Please tell me why she wouldn't be pissed off? This is not about 3thrones (that was just him disrespecting dancers at rehearsals) this is about the never ending disrespect and underpaying of dancers in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Y'all WE NEED TO FIX THIS! Coming for Kaffy is not the issue and DavidO is not the issue. This is like a plague that needs to be flushed out of the system. Buhari stated this in a message to the 7th National Prayer Breakfast titled; “A tree and it’s fruits, is yours a blessing or a curse”. 
 
The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, said leaders in the country must strive to be a light to the people they lead. 
 
He said, “As leaders we must strive to be the light of the world, we must resist to talk about our current socioeconomic situation with despondency. 
 
“As for me, I have complete faith that Nigeria will emerge from this crisis strong, united, prosperous and secured. 
 
“I believe that all these will come to fruition in the life time of this government, the life time of this executives, legislature and the judiciary.” 
 
In a sermon, Rev. Abu Banko defined a politician as a model for all citizens, adding that a politician must be ready to give not steal from the nation. 
 
He said that a politician should also be ready to promote the general welfare of the people, and help raise their standard of living. 
 
Banko, therefore, urged all public office holders, including civil servants, lawmakers and those in the executive, to lead Nigeria to its destiny. 
 
He prayed God to guide them steer the affairs of the nation with love, humility and sacrifice. 
 
Banko urged all Nigerians to be humble, turn away from sins and seek the face of God, so as to end current problems in the country.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has again affirmed the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to try the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on charges bordering on assets declaration breaches before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Saraki, the Justice Abdul Aboki-led panel of the appeal court on Thursday affirmed the CCT’s jurisdiction after dismissing the appeal filed by Saraki challenging his trial before the tribunal. 
 
All the four other members of the panel unanimously agreed with the lead judgment delivered by Justice Aboki‎ who resolved all the eight issues formulated for determination against Saraki. 
 
In affirming the earlier ruling of the Danladi Umar-led CCT affirming the tribunal’s jurisdiction, Justice Aboki held among others that contrary to Saraki’s contention, the Attorney-General of the Federation had the power to institute charges against him before the CCT. 
 
The appeal court also held that under the Constitution, the Code of Conduct wa‎s not under any obligation to invite the appellant to enable him to make written admission of breaches in his asset declaration forms before charges could be initiated against him. 
 
It held that the tribunal had rightly departed from its earlier decision exonerating a former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu‎ on account that he was not invited by the CCB to confront him with the allegations levelled against him. 
 
The court also held that the fact that the charges were initiated 13‎ years after the offences were allegedly committed was immaterial. 
 
Justice Aboki described the contention as sentimental which the court had been enjoined not to delve into. 
 
This was the second time the appeal court would be delivering judgment on the same subject matter of jurisdiction of the CCT to try the Senate President. 
 
The Court of Appeal had last year ruled against Saraki on the jurisdiction of the CCT and asked him to proceed to face the 16 counts preferred against him. 
 
The judgment of the appeal court was validated by the Supreme Court in February.

The NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Shuaibu Jibrin, said on Thursday that the racket had been collecting money from applicants in the guise of offering them employment into the organisation. 
 
Jibrin, however, assured that its searchlights had already been beamed on the perpetrators while explaining that all recruitment exercises by the organisation “are properly advertised through the mass media”. 
 
He said, “Currently, the NSCDC is not carrying out any recruitment, the NSCDC recruits based on certain criteria and merit which is always advertised through the mass media.” 
 
He said applicants had never been charged during NSCDC’s recruitment exercises, and assured that those behind the syndicate would soon be apprehended and brought to justice.

A Gudu Upper Area Court on Wednesday ordered that one Frank Ugochukwu be given seven strokes of the cane for stealing alcoholic drinks from a wine shop.

Ugochukwu, 27, pleaded guilty and was convicted on a two-count of criminal trespass and theft. 
 
The judge, Mr. Umar Kagarko, gave the sentence after the convict begged for leniency, saying he would never repeat the act. 
 
The prosecutor had earlier told the court that one Stanley Emmanuel of Karibu Hotel, located at 32 Lodoke Boulevard Way, Garki II, reported the matter at the Garki police station, on October 21. 
 
He said that the convict was a former member of staff of the hotel. 
 
“On the same date, October 21, he (Ugochukwu) went to the hotel and entered the wine shop and stole two big bottles of McDowell’s gin, one bottle of Red Label gin and a bottle of Andre wine,” he said. 
 
Emmanuel put the value of the drinks at N9,500. 
 
The police prosecutor said the stolen items were recovered from Ugochukwu’s possession and he admitted to committing the offence. 
 
The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

 The naira tumbled to 470 against the United States dollar on Wednesday, down from 455 on Tuesday as fresh dollar shortage hit the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.

The local currency has been relatively stable, hovering around 455 against the greenback in the last one week. 
 
This came after Travelex and First Bank of Nigeria Limited commenced sale of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change operators following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s approval. 
 
Forex traders, however, said on Wednesdays that the scheme had failed to ease the biting dollar shortage in the country. 
 
“What we get from Travelex is not sufficient,” one trader told Reuters, referring to the demand in the market. 
 
At the official market, the naira closed at 305.50 per dollar, a level it had maintained for more than two months, supported by the CBN interventions. 
 
Earlier, the CBN asked international money transfer operators to sell dollars directly to the BDC operators to boost liquidity and narrow the gulf between the parallel market and the official market rates. 
 
Travelex sells around $15,000 to 1,000 retail currency outlets weekly, but the amount is a fraction of what is required to cover the demand from individuals and small businesses. 
 
Dollar shortages have caused many firms to halt operations and lay off workers, compounding an economic crisis exacerbated by the fall in global oil price, which accounts for 70 per cent of Nigeria’s budget revenue. 
 
The CBN has struggled to support the naira as the nation’s external reserves continue to fall. Traders said the naira had been testing new lows as they tried to find thresholds where liquidity could begin to return.

John Danfulani, a former lecturer at the Kaduna state university has been remanded in prison for criticising the administrative style of Governor Nasir El Rufai.

The former political science lecturer has been embroiled in a battle with the state government over comments he made on Facebook in December 2015 indicating his displeasure with the government he campaigned for. 
 
He was arraigned on January 2016 before a Magistrate Court by the State’s Commissioner of Police and he spent six days in prison before his bail application could be heard, but the case was subsequently struck out for lack of merit when it came up for hearing. 
 
He later on resigned from his job, citing harassment from authorities. 
 
However, on Wednesday, the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice filed a fresh case against him at the State High Court, before Justice Bilkisu Mohammed, signed by both Bayero Dari and Abdullahi Isiaka. 
 
They said the criminal charges against Dr. Danfulani fell under section 417 and 418 of the Penal Code and alleged that the post he made about fuel scarcity, high foreign exchange and a high number of out of school children in the north, sought to excite hatred and contempt against the people of Nigeria. 
 
Dr. Danfulani, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him but the Judge said he should be remanded in prison till the 7th of November, 2016, when she would be back from a ‘seminar’ to listen to the bail application.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja will today (Thursday) deliver judgment in the appeal filed by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, challenging his trial on charges bordering on assets declaration breaches before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Justice Abdul Aboki-led panel of the appeal court had on October 6 heard the appeal challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT, and reserved for judgment. 
 
The hearing notice for the judgment was served on parties to the appeal late on Wednesday. 
 
 
The five-man panel is already seated set to deliver the judgment. 
 
This will be the second time the appeal court will be delivering judgment on the same subject matter of jurisdiction to try the Senate President. 
 
The Court of Appeal had last year ruled against Saraki on the jurisdiction of the CCT and asked him to proceed to face the 16 counts preferred against him. 
 
The judgment of the appeal court was validated by the Supreme Court in February.

The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Segun Oni, has said if he were a Supreme Court judge, the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, would have been arrested if indeed he attempted to influence court judgments.

Speaking to newsmen, Oni said the allegations by the judges against Amaechi would not be taken seriously because of late timing. 
 
Sylvester Ngwuta and John Okoro, both justices of the supreme court, had accused Amaechi of attempting to bribe them. 
 
“I am not in the position to defend Amaechi, but I feel very sad. I am very sad that a justice of the Supreme Court could come up much later to say somebody attempted to bribe him,” he said. 
 
“If I am a justice of the supreme court, that person would not spend another week before he is arrested. So, because it is a crime, if you see somebody committing crime and you keep quiet and now you are talking about it, do you want people to take you seriously? 
 
“It’s like somebody saying I saw somebody committing rape last year and I didn’t do anything about it. I don’t think that sounds wise. I am not exonerating anybody and there can be investigation”, he added. 
 
He dismissed the statement of Timi Frank, deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, who said the party may cease to exist by 2019. 
 
Oni said APC was the “strongest base that any political system has in Nigeria today”. 
 
“I don’t see that as a reasonable thing to say. I am sorry, whoever said that, I don’t see it as a reasonable thing to say,” he said. 
 
“If anybody says it would not last till 2019, I would say that is wishful thinking, and it is not one of the most reasonable things to say. 
 
“We can have problems, we will face our problems as its comes, we are not saying that there won’t be turbulent times. If there are turbulent times, we go through it. Turbulent times are normal. 
 
“Even the PDP in its own period had turbulent times and it went through it, but to say that the APC may not exist till 2019, we are already in 2016, you shouldn’t take such a person seriously.”

The Deputy National Publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank has denied allegations that he is pulling stunts for the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Frank, who spoke on Channels Television, Politics Today on Wednesday night said he is only loyal to the Abubakar Atiku and not Bola Tinubu. 
 
He said: “Anybody that makes any allegation that I'm Asiwaju man does not know. I'm only loyal to one person , that even the person that brought me to the APC, and that is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. 
 
“He is my only political godfather. 
 
“I have not fear to let anybody know about that he is my political godfather”, he said. 
 
Recall that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress decided to move against Mr. Timi Frank over alleged anti-party activities. 
 
The party is said to constitute a panel to investigate him based on a petition which boarders on anti-party activities. 
 
It was further learnt that the move may lead to his suspension.

A truck conveying internally displaced persons, IDPs, ran into a landmine planted on a highway causing an explosion which injured some of the passengers, officials said.

The displaced persons were being conveyed from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, back to Gamboru-Ngala, a border community about 145km away. The community is one of those liberated from Boko Haram. 
 
The incident occurred barely an hour after the military authority in Maiduguri, officially okayed the movement of over 200 cars and trucks conveying the returnee IDPs and food items to the liberated border community. 
 
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Bello Moduganari, confirmed the incident to newsmen in his office. 
“We just received the sad news that one of the vehicles that we had cleared to move to Gamboru-Ngala ran into a landmine at Ngom Village, some 20km away from Maiduguri. 
 
“There is no report of death in the incident so far, but we have arranged to take the victims to the hospital here in Maiduguri. 
 
“We learnt the landmine was planted in the centre of the road and an unsuspecting Land Cruiser jeep ran over it”, he said. 
 
Reporters who were at the venue where the soldiers commenced the escort of the very long convoy of trucks, pickup vans and passenger buses conveying foodstuff and persons. 
 
The Secretary of the NURTW in Borno, Amodu Musa, branch had earlier informed reporters that they could not convey the passengers because of the bad nature of the road especially during the rainy season. 
 
“Initially we had ignorantly blamed the soldiers for not trying to help us; but when we went there on our own we met 18 of our trucks stuck in the clay mud blocking the entire routes”, said Mr. Musa. 
 
“We had to employ the service of a mega crane and towing vans to pull them out; then we also hired tippers to sand fill the route before we could make it to Gamboru some two weeks ago. 
 
“And when we got to Gamboru we discovered that there were people but no food; a cube of Maggi was being sold for N20. A can of malt was sold at N350 and N300. That was why we pleaded with the military to assist us by allowing the trucks conveying food items to go first before the passenger vehicles”. 
 
The theatre commander of the operation ‘Lafiya Dole’, Lucky Irabor, had also informed journalists that the movement of persons and trucks through the routes leading to Gamboru was one of the most difficult tasks because of the dangers on the route. 
 
Mr. Irabor, a major general, dispelled the claims made by the returnee IDPs that soldiers took bribes from truck owners before providing them escorts.

The federal government has appealed to Emirates Airline and other foreign airlines operating in the country to reconsider the decision of withdrawing their services.

According to James Odaudu, deputy director in the ministry of aviation, Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation, made the plea in Abuja during a visit by Manoj Gopi Nair, West African regional manager for Emirates. 
 
Oduadu quoted Sirika as assuring the operators that the challenges confronting the aviation sector would soon be resolved. 
 
“The minister has appealed to the management of Emirates and other airlines to reconsider their decisions to either suspend their operations or scale them down, considering the adverse effects on their long-standing costumers and the benefits they had reaped in the past,” Oduadu said in a statement. 
 
“Government is not unaware of the issues that have created operational difficulties for both domestic and foreign airlines, such as Foreign Exchange, Aviation fuel and infrastructural deficiencies and the government has been up and doing to ensure the creation of an environment that is both enabling and profitable for all airlines to operate.” 
 
But Nair explained that the decision to scale down operation was based on poor access to foreign exchange, high cost of aviation fuel and the state of the Abuja Airport runway. 
 
On infrastructural deficiencies at Abuja airport, Sirika said the government was already handling the issue, noting that the long-term solution was to concession the major airports. 
 
He added that the scarcity of aviation fuel, which threatened to cripple the industry in the recent past, had been resolved as government had made it easier for importers to bring in the product.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to account for recovered loot over his proposed decision to borrow $29.96bn.

The president had asked the national assembly for approval to borrow the sum from external sources. 
 
But the PDP called on the national assembly to reject the proposal “because it will plunge the country into huge debts”. 
 
“We totally disagree with the APC led federal government on this latest move,  and call on President Muhammed Buhari to first and foremost explain to Nigerians what his administration has done with the so-called  ‘recovered looted funds’ and how far the 2016 budget is fairing,” the party said in a statement by Dayo Adeyeye, its spokesman. 
 
The PDP said Buhari must itemise what he intends to finance with the proposed borrowing instead of “lumping it up in a coded term, and to plunge the nation into debt.” 
 
It also said that the approach was not the preferred solution to the economic quagmire “which this government created due to ineptitude.” 
 
“Nigerians will recall that the minister of information, culture and tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in June 2016 made public through a press statement, an account of recovered looted funds between May 2015 to May 2016 amounting to the sums of N78.3bn, $185.1m, £3.5m and €11,250m in cash; while others were under interim forfeiture. What happened to the recovered funds? Or is it the same funds the EFCC and DSS are planting in houses of opposition figures and justices instead of channeling it into the economy?” the party asked. 
 
“In addition, the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu recently confirmed our position when he stated that the commission recovered more money in eight months than it recovered in 12 years. 
 
“Nigerians need to know how much revenue government has been able to generate from crude oil, non-oil and independent revenue sources since assumption of office from May 2015 to September 2016. This clarification will boost confidence of Nigerians on the management of their resources especially in this period of recession before thinking of engaging in external borrowing. 
 
“It is no gain saying that the APC led federal government has left no stone unturned in castigating the PDP’s 16 years as wasted even with its obvious achievements; one of which was getting reprieve from the Paris Club of Creditors. The APC-led federal government is again taking Nigeria prior to Year 2005 when external debt burden derailed the growth of Nigeria economy and weakened the GDP before the total cancellation of her debt. This proposed action of the APC’s government will be a great injustice to the citizens of this country now and in the future if they are plunged back into debt. 
 
“Let us state unequivocally, that history will not forgive this APC government and its collaborators if they allow this injustice and maladministration to our economy and citizens to stand. We therefore call on the two chambers of the national assembly to reject this anti-people request by an anti-people government that has no genuine interest for the growth and development of the people of this country.”

Military sources yesterday rejected former President Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that his administration bought warships and aircraft.

The former president, who spoke at a lecture he delivered on “Youth Entrepreneurship” at the Oxford Union in the United Kingdom (UK), tried to exonerate former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki of corruption allegations involving $2.2 billion voted for arms procurement. 
 
Jonathan said he did not believe the former NSA stole the money because weapons were bought for the military to fight Boko Haram. 
 
Jonathan said: “I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2 billion; we bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army and so on and so forth and you are still saying 2.2billion, so where did we get the money to buy all those things?” 
 
Investigations however revealed that the former President might have been deceived by his officials on the type of weapons that were bought for the military. 
 
According to several military sources who asked to remain anonymous because of the “sensitivity” of the matter, many of the weapons bought under the former president were “unserviceable and useless”. 
 
One said the Jonathan administration bought at least three fairly used (Tokunbo) Alpha Jets for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and two helicopters. But the jets were , the sources claimed, “not worth anything because they were not weaponised and the helicopters were cannibalised.” 
 
NAF recently reconfigured two demilitarised Alpha jets in its inventory. According to the NAF website, the jets were bought from the United States in 2015 to help in the fight against Boko Haram. 
 
“The two aircraft are among the four Alpha Jets bought from the United States in 2015 by the immediate past administration to enhance the operational capability of the NAF to combat Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast. 
 
“The aircraft, however, before now, could not be deployed in the theatre of operation due to the inherent weapon delivery deficiency, hence its limited use for training purposes. The urgent need in recent times to commit all NAF available platforms to OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE to enhance the success of the counter insurgency operation necessitated the Service to look inward to seek ways of achieving its drive for self reliance through research and development. 
 
“ A number of vendors invited to Nigeria to assess the platforms had concluded that it would be difûcult or almost impossible to undertake the project since the Original Equipment Manufacturer had long closed down the production line. A few others who agreed to the possibility of having the aircraft reconfigured to carry munitions have also submitted proposals for initial assessment fee ranging from $20,000 – $30,000 before they could come up with the actual cost for the project. Convinced that the project would work, the NAF consequently assembled a team of technicians to develop a feasible model for the project. The model worked on ground, and has since been mounted on the Alpha Jets, and test fown successfully. This feat is a major research and development breakthrough for the NAF and the nation as a huge foreign exchange saver, given that the project only cost about N4,000,000.00 compared to what would be required to have it done abroad,” NAF said. 
 
However, the former President may have been referring to the purchase of six decommissioned Norwegian battleships, bought purportedly on behalf of the Navy by former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo. 
 
The purchase had caused a huge row in Norway forcing that country’s military leadership to apologize to the lawmakers. The battleships were said to be used for anti-piracy operations on Nigerian waters. The Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, did not respond to our correspondent’s questions on the whereabouts of the battleships. 
 
However a search on the Navy website revealed that the service has 24 battle ships purchased over several years while it still awaits one battleship built in China, NNS Unity. 
 
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is seeking to add an additional C295W military aircraft to its fleet as the battle against Boko Haram reaches an advance stage. NAF has been crucial to the recent victories recorded by the military in the Northeast, through series of sustained aerial bombardment of camps and locations of Boko Haram militants. 
 
The aircraft is to be purchased from Airbus Defence and Space Company (Spain), which had earlier in the year made proposals to the NAF. 
 
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, had played host to Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfonso Barnuevo Sebastian De Erice, who led two executives of Airbus Defence and Space Company to the NAF Headquarters and held discussions on the company’s proposal to sell the C295W military aircraft to the NAF. 
 
According to NAF, based on its operational capabilities, the aircraft was considered suitable to meet some of its operational needs, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and airlift operations. 
 
The air force has also recommended the aircraft for acquisition and provisions have been made for this in the 2017 budget proposal. 
 
The CAS urged the visiting team to start looking into training areas for NAF pilots and technicians on the aircraft. 
 
This, he said, is with a view to ensuring a smooth take-off for the operation of the aircraft in the event of its approval by the Federal Government.
