He now wants to start selling state assets.”</p> <p>Adeyanju, who had always been critical of Bello said the governor should not be allowed to govern hellfire, let alone Nigeria.</p> <p>He had described Bello as a complete failure.</p>

margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="452" data-original-width="678" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwRsqjPNNBCVzsI6ioEw6enOOZoA-iujp98HQhm5G10LWil4X3aJqluwKyFip_rMUERH67Swe-5eKvdicufQVC25luzaWCcDh7uMFJm5DmKlTmdhzt2QemUT1CPa8syg6dL8NVWBKwdjs/w400-h266/60B1E334-C7ED-4C74-B109-762C86313D58.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div> <p><br /></p> <p>French President Emmanuel Macron warned of the threat the Islamic State group poses ahead of an Iraqi summit Saturday overshadowed by the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan and a deadly bombing in Kabul.</p> <p>Organisers have been tight-lipped on the agenda of the summit in Baghdad, but the meeting also comes as Iraq, long a casualty of jihadist militancy, tries to establish itself as a mediator between Arab countries and Iran.</p> <p>“We all know that we must not lower our guard, because Daesh remains a threat, and I know that the fight against these terrorist groups is a priority of your government,” Macron said, after a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi in Baghdad.</p> <p>Iraq and France “are key partners in the war against terrorism,” Kadhemi replied.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II are due at the summit, while the foreign ministers of regional foes Iran and Saudi Arabia will also be present.</p> <p>The prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, as well as Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, are also expected to attend.</p> <p>Iraq is seeking to play a “unifying role” to tackle crises shaking the region, sources close to Iraq’s Kadhemi have said.</p> <p>Oil-rich Iraq has been caught for years in a delicate balancing act between its two main allies, Iran and the United States.</p> <p>Iran exerts major clout in Iraq through allied armed groups within the Hashed al-Shaabi, a powerful state-sponsored paramilitary network.</p> <p>Baghdad has been brokering talks since April between US ally Riyadh and Tehran on mending ties severed in 2016.</p> <p>Macron aims to highlight France’s role in the region and its determination to press the fight against terrorism, his office said.</p> <p>The French president considers Iraq “essential” to stability in the troubled Middle East, it added.</p> <p>An IS affiliate claimed Thursday’s suicide bombing in Kabul that killed scores of people, including 13 US service members.</p> <p>The attack has revived global concerns that the extremist organisation, which seized swathes of Syria and Iraq before being routed from both countries, is emerging anew, analysts said.</p> <p>The blast came during the final days of US-led evacuations from Afghanistan after the Taliban’s lightning takeover.</p> <p>“These events show that it has become more urgent than ever to back the political process in Iraq and involve its neighbours,” a source close to Macron said.</p> <p>“A solution to security threats in the region, including Daesh, depends on a stable, sovereign and prosperous Iraq,” the source added.</p> <p>A decade after the 2003 US-led invasion that ousted dictator Saddam Hussein, IS in June 2014 announced a “caliphate” in territory seized in Syria and Iraq, routing the badly prepared Iraqi army without a fight and seizing almost a third of the country.</p> <p>France was part of a US-led coalition established to battle the extremists.</p> <p>Iraq declared IS territorially defeated in December 2017, but the group still retains sleeper cells and continues to claim bloody attacks.</p> <p>One of the deadliest was a July bombing that ripped through a crowded Baghdad market, killing over 30 people on the eve of a key Muslim holiday.</p> <p>According to Colin Clarke, senior research fellow at the Soufan Center, IS “still has access to tens of millions of dollars and will likely continue to rebuild its network throughout Iraq and Syria”.</p> <p>Its “primary goal at the moment is to have its affiliates maintain momentum until it can sufficiently rebuild its core in the Levant,” he said.</p> <p>“(IS) affiliates in sub-Saharan Africa and now Afghanistan will have the opportunity to make strides in the coming year.”</p> <p>In July, President Joe Biden said US combat operations in Iraq would end this year, but that US soldiers would continue to train, advise and support the country’s military in the fight against IS.</p> <p>Washington currently has 2,500 troops deployed to Iraq.</p> <p>Rasha Al Aqeedi, senior analyst at Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy, said coalition forces believed Iraq’s security personnel could prevent another IS advance.</p> <p>“Maybe they’re not ideal, but they’re good enough for America to leave the country believing that Iraq is not going to live through another 2014,” she said.</p>

Sanwo-Olu and his officials for rescuing them from what they described as “war zone’’.</p> <p>Speaking on behalf of the students, a 200-level student of the Department of Religion and Philosophy, Clinton Shotikare, thanked the governor for coming to their rescue.</p> <p>“On behalf of other students, I am saying a big thank you to the Lagos State Government, especially the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.</p> <p>“We appreciate the governor and the state government for evacuating us from Plateau State. We feel happy, honoured, grateful and safe. We feel the impact of government,’’’ Shotikare said.</p> <p>He said that they had been experiencing tense situations and sleepless nights since the beginning of the crises in Plateau.</p> <p>The student urged the Lagos State Government not to relent in its efforts to rescuing other Lagos State indigenes, especially students who were still stranded on campus and in towns.</p> <p>A student of the Department of Pharmacy, UNIJOS, Christiana Edward, also appreciated Gov. Sanwo-Olu for evacuating them from Jos.</p> <p>“I am really grateful for what Lagos State Government has done for us. We are so thankful. Some of us had even lost hope when 24 hours curfew was declared in Plateau State. But Lagos State governor came to our rescue and evacuated us from Jos.</p> <p>“We, the students of University of Jos really appreciate Lagos State Government. We appreciate Gov. Lucky Irabor says the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) is reviewing its operational engagements.</p> <p>Irabor made the disclosure at the 6th edition of his security parley with military veterans in Asaba, Delta State.</p> <p>The meeting, tagged “CDS Interactive Session with Retired Senior Military Officers in the South-South Geo-political zone,”/was attended by top retired officers.</p> <p>The CDS said the consultation, which began in the South-West, has been impactful and will be continuous.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Irabor noted that the operations DELTA SAFE, in synergy with other internal security arrangement, are recording successes against illegal oil bunkering, piracy, among others.</p> <p>The Defence chief said other engagements are holding behind the scene.</p> <p>“There is non-kinetic approach which forms part of the engagement that is focused on the holistic solutions to the challenges in the Niger Delta region,” he added.</p> <p>Chief of Defence Civil Military Cooperation, Rear Adm. Fredrick Ogu, said the retired officers were in a better position to offer professional counsel on security threats.</p>

Operations are still ongoing,” he said.</p>

So when a High Court in Port Harcourt restrained Secondus from parading himself as national chairman of the party, we advised ourselves that was the way to go. We must comply with that court order. <p>“We had Akinwonmi presiding over the meeting of the National Working Committee today and he came to brief us on their decision which is in line with the previous meeting of the Governors Forum and the meeting of stakeholders that there should be NEC meeting on Saturday, where we shall be discussing issues about the national convention by the grace of God, which is still holding in October.</p> <p>“The road can be bumpy but the most important thing is that we are still holding together strongly and that is what we assure our members and teeming supporters across the country.</p> <p>“We are the hope of Nigeria and the hope of the future and we earned that confidence and trust of Nigerians and we are not going to betray it,” he said.</p> <p>Recall that a Rivers State High Court had ordered Secondus to vacate the office of the PDP National Chairman.</p> <p>However, Justice Nusirat. I. Because there is a government and IPOB is not the government in Imo. I am still the governor of the State.</p> <p>“Imo State government has not authorized any sit-at-home and like I said, in Imo State, everybody is going about their businesses every day, workers are going to work, and normal activities are going on.</p> <p>“For now, Imo State is relatively calm. Before the end of last league, we even had a match between heartland and Adamawa football club in the night at our stadium and people who watched it all over the world will tell you the level of friendliness and calm environment in Imo State”.</p>

Justice Nura Sagir Umar has freed thirty-five inmates at Goron Dutse Correctional Centre.</p> <p>Spokesman to the Kano Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.</p> <p>He said the inmates were released during a 2-day visit to the Correctional Centre by the State Chief Judge.</p> <p>According to the statement, “The visit is based on the power conferred upon him under section 1(1) of the ”Criminal Justice Release from Custody Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007” which empowered him to conduct prison visit and order the ”Release of any prison inmate if satisfied that the detention of that person is manifestly unlawful; or that the person detained has been in custody, whether on remand or otherwise for a period longer than the maximum period of imprisonment the person detained could have served had he been convicted of the offence in respect of which he was detained”.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>He said the move will help in an effort to decongest correctional facilities in the country.</p> <p>Umar, however, urged the benefiting inmates to try to be positive and desist from any form of negativity.</p> <p>The inmates expressed their happiness, thanking the Chief Judge and promising to be of good character.</p>

Revolution is when you get some people who don’t like what is happening, they plan and change everything at once. But that is very difficult. And at times, it can be violent.</p> <p>“The easier one is through evolution where you change the country gradually. If you have a leader who is not good, you change that leader. If you have a policy which is not good, you change it. If you have a behaviour which is not good, you bring a national reorientation to change that behaviour.</p> <p>“One of the greatest instruments for changing any society is young people. One thing I want you to take away from here is that don’t think about being leaders of tomorrow. Think about being leaders of today. And we believe that young people should be leaders of today and not leaders of tomorrow.</p> <p>“If there is going to be a phenomenal change in Nigeria, it is in the hands of young people because old people are more difficult to change than young people. Young people are dynamic, innovative, creative and they have the capacity to change.</p> <p>“And we are already seeing changes in the Buhari administration. In this National Assembly, the things we were hearing before that before you pass any bill you have to bribe legislators, those things are not happening again. Changes are gradual and we are confident that we are on the right path”.</p> <p>Earlier, Leader of the group who doubles as Education Champion for Centre LSD, Frances Igwilo, said the visit was aimed at educating the students on the workings of the National Assembly.</p>

But a company spokesman said the firm encouraged the public to seek vaccine shots.</p> <p>Around 43 per cent of Japan’s population has been fully vaccinated, as the country battles a record surge of virus cases driven by the more contagious Delta variant.</p> <p>Around 15,500 people have died from Covid-19 in the country during the pandemic, and large parts of Japan are under virus restrictions.</p>

That is the only way to show them the difference by loving them because they have repented from their mistakes,” the governor said.</p> <p>Zulum also told Newsmen that, so far, a total of 2,600 former terrorists and fighters have surrendered to the Nigerian military and are currently in custody of the military.</p> <p>He said ” Not all of them are criminals. Some of them are also victims, as such the need for communities to understand and welcome the fact that they have realised their shortcomings and are now turning in to be good citizens.”</p> <p>He explained that many of those who are surrendering to troops are people who were forcefully conscripted and that they had to stay with the terrorists to stay alive.</p> <p>” Some of them were small children when they were taken to join the terrorists, ” he added.</p> <p>Zulum told journalists that, he was attacked over five times by the terrorists while moving from one end of Borno State to another end to ensure that he builds confidence on the people, a sacrifice which is also yielding result with terrorists giving up and coming out to submit themselves.</p> <p>He said his administration will do everything possible to support the surrendered terrorists, adding that government is not contemplating inducing the terrorists in order to have them surrendered but will work to ensure that those who surrender after profiling by the military return to their communities.</p>

Indeed the food consumption pattern must change to reduce food waste.”</p> <p>On his part, Nanono confirmed the position of Shehuri, but expressed optimism that the country would address this weakness, as he noted that the government was working hard to halt the importation of sugar in Nigeria in two years.</p> <p>“It is important to note at this point that our food systems architecture remains weak and vulnerable to shocks. The Air force needs more drones.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“Drones are much cheaper than planes, and there are drones now that can carry missiles.</p> <p>“But drones can be more targeted, more selective and quiet. And drones can also fly in circumstances that airplanes cannot due to bad weather.</p> <p>“We need the combination of airpower, and we need troops on the ground augmented by local expertise and knowledge. We need just one, two, three months of operation just to kill all these bandits.</p> <p>“It’s the only way to stop this. So the only option that we have is to ensure that we kill them all.”</p>
