In recognition of this, our administration is committed to supporting the judiciary and we would continue to support the judiciary.<br /> <br /> “I want to urge all of us to continue to support the outstanding works that have been carried out by the Chief Judge and also support every other arm to ensure delivery of services to our people,” the Governor said.<br /> <br /> Earlier in her opening remarks, Justice Oke commended all stakeholders for their cooperation and support for her administration, saying she was poised to do more to further advance the administration of justice in the State, and Nigeria.<br /> <br /> She particularly commended Governor Ambode for the tremendous support to the judiciary, adding that it was on record that the Governor was always ready to strongly collaborate and assist when required.<br /> <br /> “I especially thank His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his unalloyed and exceptional support of this administration and his understanding of the peculiar nature of the position of the judiciary in government and his strong attention to our requests,” the CJ said.</div>

I’m sure that with true federalism, Nigeria will be better.”<br /> <br /> Speaking on the plan the PDP has for the South-West zone, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, said all the six geopolitical zones would be accommodated by the party “when we win the presidential election.”<br /> <br /> Secondus told newsmen that “the PDP is sensitive to our members in particular and the nation in general. We are going to have elaborate meetings on the zoning of offices and I can tell you all the zones will be accommodated.”<br /> <br /> It was gathered that the South-West might get the position of either the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Atiku cabinet.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Atiku has also said that the South-West is critical to his team’s struggle to liberate the country from the grip of the All Progressives Congress.<br /> <br /> He said it would be wrong to assume he had decided to neglect the zone because he didn’t pick his running mate from there, insisting that every part of the country would benefit from the available political offices and positions.<br /> <br /> Atiku, who spoke through the Head of his Media Campaign Organisation, Mr Segun Sowumi, said there were no plans by his team to forget any zone.<br /> <br /> He said, “Every part of Nigeria is important to us. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), the then National Security Adviser, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended in 2012) and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.”<br /> <br /> The former governor was accused of sending his aide, Abiodun Agbele, to receive about N1.3bn from a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, sometime in June 2014.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The money was said to have emanated from Dasuki’s office.<br /> <br /> According to the EFCC, the N1.3bn was flown to Akure Airport and Obanikoro handed over the money to Agbele, who is also standing trial for corruption.<br /> <br /> The EFCC said officials of Zenith Bank arrived at the Akure Airport tarmac in a bullion van to convey all the cash to the bank’s vault located at 13, Alagbaka Estate, Akure.<br /> <br /> Attached as evidence are bank tellers Agbele allegedly gave as bank instructions at different times to pay in money into Fayose’s Zenith Bank account even after the elections.<br /> <br /> According to the commission, Agbele directed the bank to pay N137m into the account of Ayodele Fayose with number 1003126654 and Bank Verification Number 22338867502. The bank teller dated June 26, 2014, was filled by Agbele with teller number 0556814.<br /> <br /> Agbele also allegedly directed the bank to transfer N118,760,000 to the same account and paid in N50m cash into Fayose’s account.<br /> <br /> The commission said on April 7, 2015, several months later, Fayose personally moved N300m to his fixed deposit account at Zenith Bank with number 9013074033 with his same BVN.<br /> <br /> The account is domiciled at 15 Olusola Abiona Street, Estate, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.<br /> <br /> According to the anti-graft agency, on the instruction of Fayose, Agbele deposited N100m to the account of Spotless Investment Limited, a hotel which is owned by Fayose and his wife, Olayemi.<br /> <br /> Fayose allegedly used part of the money to buy houses in Abuja and Lagos. The houses have since been seized while his bank accounts with a balance of N380m have been frozen.<br /> <br /> No date has been fixed for hearing.<br /> \

He was elected as a governor,” he recalled.<br /> <br /> He, however, said his plan was to mentor Atiku to be his successor but his former deputy failed him.<br /> <br /> Obasanjo added, “My plan was that he would be given a lot of work to do domestically and Atiku even used to complain that I gave him too much work to do, which was intentional because I wanted him to get to know things.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> “My second term was that having prepared him for domestic issues, I would want him to represent Nigeria for one year at the African Union, Economic Community of West African States and the United Nations for a year so that he would be fully prepared, but the first thing I found out was that his judgement was not right on many occasions.”<br /> <br /> The former President, who insisted that Buhari had not done well in government, said as a watchman, he would continue to speak up when things were going wrong.<br /> <br /> He said there was the need for Nigerians, especially the youth, to elect leaders that could fit into a “digital 21st century post-modern era rather than electing analogue personalities.”<br /> <br /> On the Boko Haram crisis, Obasanjo said after he left office in 2007, his successor (late Umaru Yar’Adua) mismanaged the issue, which caused the group to become terrorists.<br /> <br /> Obasanjo said had he been President at the time, Boko Haram would not have become what it is today.<br /> <br /> He recalled that in 2011, with the permission of former President Goodluck Jonathan, he visited the family of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, and other aggrieved persons in the terrorist group and they explained why they were carrying out attacks.<br /> <br /> The former President added, “In 2011, I went to Maiduguri. This was after Boko Haram had attacked the UN building in Abuja and I just wanted to know who they were and if they had leaders and what their grievances were.<br /> <br /> “I found out that these elements of Boko Haram had been there even while I was in government. And they, through their intermediary, said they were there and I didn’t disturb them so they didn’t disturb me.<br /> <br /> “They were preaching Sharia and that was what they wanted. But, according to them, when I left government, they were being chased and haunted and they lost a number of their adherents and they decided to fight back and even the leader of their sect, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed and his in-law was also killed.<br /> <br /> “They went to court to try and get compensation which was granted to them but the state government did not pay.”

The threat should rather strengthen our resolve that enough is enough of exploitative work. It’s no pay no work!<br /> <br /> “Recall that there has not been any comensurate adjustment in salary since the pump price of fuel was unadjusted astronomically. We’ve never been more impoverished than now, it has been exploitation galore for this administration, I dare say.<br /> <br /> “Furthermore, FG commitment to the renegotiation has been quite questionable, as it has not come to terms with us on our proposed salary structure and a host of other issues. So, do brace up for a prolonged battle – it is a no retreat no surrender action, for if we refused to stand for COE system now, we may no get it right again.”</div>

Not even in 2012 did the state government receive financial assistance from the federal government. I know that we raised some money on our own and some agencies, companies and philanthropists came to our aid.<br /> <br /> “I want to use this opportunity also to call on public-spirited individuals and organisations, partners and donor agencies to come to the aid of my people. People in the state are displaced and are living in very terrible conditions.”<br /> <br /> “We are trying our best to help them manage a very bad situation. We have got two issues to deal with. They involve taking care and ensuring that the IDPs are managed for as long as the flooding situation lasts. There is also the challenge of helping them return to their homes in order to be resettled to continue with their lives.’’</div>

The oil was discharged in one port. We have identified who the oil majors are and the shipping companies involved; but since 2014, we have been begging the Nigerian government to recover the money,” Falana stated.<br /> <br /> He urged PENGASSAN, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Nigeria Labour Congress to institute a probe, track and investigate the volume of crude oil stolen from the country and discharged at ports in the United States, India, China, France and Britain, noting that if the issue was taken seriously, Nigeria would see the return of over $100bn.<br /> <br /> “This is the real money that should be recovered. This substation was built in 1970; the capacity was 60MVA then; except for the addition of another 60MVA, this community has grown exponentially; so they have exceeded the installed capacity here,” he stated.<br /> <br /> The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari knew the substation required an expansion, adding that the capacity had been increased from 120MVA to 300MVA.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> He stated, “Between that time and when President Buhari came three years ago, some people were there. But they will come back to you; so, when they come back, ask them if they didn’t know where to buy transformers.<br /> <br /> “The problem of electricity is slowly being solved, one by one. Anybody will tell you he will do magic; tell him, ‘How?’ He should explain to you. We inherited 800 containers for power equipment left in the port for 10 years. President Buhari gave us approval, and we have recovered 690.”<br /> <br /> According to Fashola, there are 90 transmission projects ongoing across the country, and some of the recovered of pieces equipment are being used for them.<br /> <br /> “If you look at it, between 2015 and now, you ask yourself honestly: Are you spending more on diesel now or before? Are you running your generators for longer today or yesterday? So, are you seeing the power slowly staying longer? If you are truthful to yourself, you will know that it is better than yesterday. And we haven’t finished,” he said.<br /> <br /> The Managing Director, TCN, Usman Mohammed, said the installation of the two units of 100MVA transformers at the Ejigbo Transmission Substation was funded by the World Bank through the firm’s project management unit.<br /> <br /> He stated, “With the increase in the Ejigbo substation’s capacity, the TCN has substantially increased bulk electricity available in the substation for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to take to its customers. Consequently, electricity consumers in Ejigbo, Egbe, Oke-Afa, Shasha, Ikotun, Ijegun, and Idimu town will now have improved power supply from Ikeja Electric.”<br /> <br /> “Other benefits include relieve of some overloaded feeders in Egbe, Shasha and Oke-Afa. Also, the Lagos airport will now have more load allocated to it. Improved power supply in these areas will positively impact the socio-economic development of the areas in particular and the economy at large.”

Houses burnt, scores killed as violence breaks out in Kaduna community

They started using dangerous weapons to attack each other and setting houses ablaze.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> “A number of people were also killed. Security personnel have been deployed and the situation is under control.”<br /> <br /> The Kaduna state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the community.<br /> <br /> In a statement, Samuel Aruwan, media aide of Nasir el-Rufai, the governor, said the action was taken to prevent further break down of law and order.<br /> <br /> A similar incident had occurred in February when Christian and Muslim youth in the community fought following the alleged abduction and conversion of some Christian girls.<br /> <br /> At least 15 people were killed during that incident while property worth millions of naira was destroyed.

He’s returning to the Senate on the platform of the PDP.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the tension among the All Progressives Congress aspirants heightened on Thursday as members who aspired for governorship and National Assembly seats inundated the party’s Director of Organization, Altai Abu-Bakr Kari, with calls in a bid to know their fate.<br /> <br /> Kari, who led some party officials in an APC branded coaster bus held tightly to a bunch of files on one hand and struggled to answer calls to his mobile phone with the other.<br /> <br /> It was gathered that aspirants for national assembly seats were especially eager to find out the outcome of their petitions to the Prof. Osariemen Osumbor-led APC Governorship and National Assembly Appeals Committee.<br /> <br /> This was against the backdrop of the party’s last minute effort to beat the 12:00 midnight deadline set by INEC for the submission of the list of all party candidates for the 2019 elections.<br /> <br /> A summary of the panel report document obtained by one of our correspondents in Abuja, on Thursday, indicated that all petitions against the Senate and House of Representatives primaries were rejected.<br /> <br /> In Delta State for example, eight petitions were upheld by the committee which agreed with the petitioners who argued that they won the primaries but that their names were surreptitiously replaced.<br /> <br /> Seven petitions were rejected for lacking merit.<br /> <br /> In the South-West zone, six petitions were received and treated by the panel from Ekiti State. The petitioners faulted the conduct of the National Assembly primary held in the state but their petitions were thrown out. A similar fate befell three petitions filed against the conduct of the House of Representatives primary in Osun State.<br /> <br /> In Ondo State, the panel upheld three petitions for Senate, referred one to the National Working Committee; rejected two and upheld the five petitions for the House of Representatives.<br /> <br /> The five argued successfully with documentary evidence that they won the primary but their names were substituted.<br /> <br /> Of the two petitions received from Lagos, one was rejected for the Senate, while the one for the House of Representatives was upheld.<br /> <br /> The panel also rejected two senatorial petitions from Ogun State and recommended that the third petitioner be adopted as the candidate, saying stakeholders of the party in the areas agreed to adopt him as a sole candidate.<br /> <br /> The Osunbor-led APC panel equally upheld the disqualifications of some of the party’s aspirants by the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC and its decision to grant automatic tickets to serving governors and some lawmakers.<br /> <br /> Some of the prominent members disqualified are a former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, and the Political Adviser to the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Uba Sani.<br /> <br /> From the panel’s report and recommendations, it became obvious that pressure mounted by some state governors, especially the Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai, as well as the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, did nothing to influence the committee.<br /> <br /> In the North-West, the panel upheld the automatic ticket given to Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central), after rejecting petitions filed by Senator Mohammed Saleh, Usman Ibrahim and Samsuddeen Giwa challenging the decision of the APC NWC to disqualify them from contesting the primary.<br /> <br /> It also threw out a petition by Dr Abba Ibrahim who cited irregularities in the party’s decision to grant Sani an automatic ticket.<br /> <br /> For Kaduna North, the APC panel threw out the petition filed by Senator Aliyu Lawal who also complained about alleged irregularities in the conduct of the primary in the area.<br /> <br /> A petition filed by Ahmed Munir, who contested the Lere Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, asking the panel to declare him as candidate was upheld.<br /> <br /> Munir had petitioned the panel alleging that the aspirant who won the contest was indicted by a court of competent jurisdiction for an unspecified offence in 2008.<br /> <br /> The panel found merit in his petition and declared the petitioner as the party’s candidate.<br /> <br /> A petition filed by Ahmed Shuiabu Adda’u who contested the party’s ticket for the Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency challenging his alleged wrongful disqualification, was thrown out for lacking merit.<br /> <br /> Another aspirant, Rufai Chanchangi, who contested the Kaduna South Federal Constituency, petitioned the panel, citing irregularities but his petition was equally rejected.<br /> <br /> For the Sokoto State governorship, petitions filed by two aspirants, Senator Abubakar Gada and Faruk Yabo, citing the refusal of the APC election committee to follow guidelines for the conduct of the exercise were also rejected.<br /> <br /> The Osumbor-led panel also held that the petition filed by a Kebbi State governorship aspirant, Alhaji Ibrahim Mera, challenging his exclusion from the contest was “not competent.”<br /> <br /> Similar petitions by senatorial aspirants for Kebbi Central and Kebbi South, Aminu Shamaki and Sule Sami respectively, were also dismissed.<br /> <br /> The panel also dismissed a petition filed by Abdullahi Sura who contested the Sum/Bagudo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.<br /> <br /> It, however, referred a petition by Abdullahi Faruk , the member representing Birnin Kebbi/ Kalgo/ Bunza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, whose petition was a “Plea for fulfilment of promise of automatic ticket for loyalty to the party,” to the APC NWC.<br /> <br /> In Jigawa State, the panel dismissed petitions filed by Hashiru Yusuf and Allhaji Hashimu against the conduct of the governorship primary on the grounds that the petitions had been overtaken by INEC’s guidelines for the conduct of fresh primaries.<br /> <br /> Former IGP, Suleiman Abba, who petitioned the panel to protest the removal of his name from the ballot in the contest for the party’s ticket for Jigawa South Senatorial district also failed to gain the panel’s sympathy.<br /> <br /> The case of Abdullahi Gumel, a sitting senator who lost the primary was referred to the NWC for further action after he petitioned the panel, citing irregularities in the conduct of the primary which he lost.<br /> <br /> In Kano, the case of the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Suleiman Kawu-Sumaila, was also referred to the NWC for further action.<br /> <br /> Similar cases referred to the NWC included those involving Suleiman Halilu, Laila Buhari and Senator Isa Zarewa who contested the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.<br /> <br /> Petitions against the conduct of the governorship primary in Katsina State were also referred to the NWC. The two petitioners were Alhaji Garba Sani and Abubakar Isa.<br /> <br /> The panel also dismissed petitions by a senatorial aspirant for Bayelsa Central, Barry Indutimi.<br /> <br /> It also dismissed appeals by Mr John Odey, Chief Edem Duke and Chief Eyo Nyong, who demanded a fresh governorship primary in Cross River State.<br /> <br /> The panel also held that the petition filed by Prof. Pat Utomi challenging the validity of the governorship primary in Delta State had been overtaken by events.<br /> <br /> It, however, upheld an appeal by Halims Agoda who won the primary for Ethiope Federal Constituency but had his name replaced.<br /> <br /> For Rivers State, the appeals by Senator Magnus Abe and Chief Dumo-Lulu Briggs against the conduct of the governorship primaries were rejected.<br /> <br /> For Akwa Ibom State, appeals by Bassey Dan-Abia, Senator James Udo-Udehe and Dr Edet Efefuei against the conduct of the governorship primary were similarly thrown out.<br /> <br /> It, however, upheld the appeal by Robinson Uwak who won the primary for Oron Federal constituency but was denied victory. Similar petitions by Iquo Inyang and Mrs. Glory Ekpo who contested and won the primaries held for Ikono/Ini and Etinam Federal Constituencies were also upheld.<br /> <br /> The party’s primaries held across the country were marred by allegations of irregularities and disqualification of aspirants.<br /> <br /> Several of these issues led to a series of meetings between the party leadership, some aggrieved governors and President Muhammadu Buhari.<br /> <br /> The president’s wife who felt slighted by the party for failing to support the emergence of her brother, Mahmoud Halilu, as governorship candidate in her native Adamawa State, took to her twitter handle to register her displeasure.<br /> <br /> She tweeted, “It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on election day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.”<br /> <br /> However, aspirants whose petitions were not treated voiced their opposition to the panel’s handling of their petitions.<br /> <br /> One of such aspirants, Mr Adaze Wilson Imafidon, who was seeking the party’s ticket to contest the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde House of Representatives Federal Constituency seat, submitted a petition to the appeals committee through his lawyers, describing the purported primary election held in the constituency as a sham.<br /> <br /> He said any attempt to present any of the aspirants to INEC as the winner of the botched APC primary election of 6th October 2018 “would be illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional.”<br /> <br /> Party supporters from Benue State, under the aegis of Benue South APC Justice and Equality Movement, protested to the party headquarters, on Thursday, asking the NWC to caution the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, for allegedly substituting the names of elected candidates with those who did not participate at the primary.<br /> <br /> The coordinator of the group, Mr Akor Ikwuocha, told newsmen that they were surprised that after the emergence of a winner from the party primaries and names submitted to the approximate authorities by the electoral committee, “the minister allegedly called a meeting of a few persons while overseas and announced that he was substituting names of most of the candidates because they were not his choice.<br /> <br /> “Today, there is no single campaign billboard of President Muhammadu Buhari in the whole of Benue South Senatorial district, despite the fact that the Benue South has a cabinet member in the person of Chief Audu Ogbe.”<br /> <br /> The protesters said the attempt to change the names of elected candidates across Benue South may put the APC at a serious disadvantage in the zone.<br /> <br /> The protesters appealed to the NWC to caution the Minister and ensure that all those candidates that won the primary elections are allowed to go for the general election as party’s candidates.
