We must resist their divide-and-rule strategies,” it said. <p>The statement further read, “The government of the day has continued to turn a deaf ear to the agitations of labour unions and cries of the masses.</p> <p>“They often request patience and understanding. Yet, impunity, financial impropriety and corruption have become the trademark of this Buhari-led administration.</p> <p>“The Nigerian government continues to pass the burden of hardship and misery to Nigerian workers and the masses. The abductions and killings of students at all levels have become embarrassing to the country. Human beings are now a commodity of trade in Nigeria. This portends nothing but doom for the future of Nigeria.”</p> <p>Akinwole said despite the “terrible” conditions, the government continued to label constructive and objective criticisms as “hate speech” when the citizens speak truth to power.</p> <p>On his part, Atiku decried what he referred to as the persistent and frightening economic decimation of the living standard of Nigerian workers.</p> <p>He expressed displeasure with the growing rate of inflation which he said had pushed many workers into poverty.</p> <p>In his May Day message titled ‘Atiku bemoans economic decimation of workers,’ signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, the ex-VP said, “The Nigerian workers have never had it so bad. The impacts of the lockdown and worsening inflation have taken their heaviest toll on the working class. The situation is so bad that they are now living from hand to mouth.”</p> <p>Atiku further called for a reduction in the cost of governance to improve the lot of workers.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and the Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, on Friday, sought improved welfare for workers across the country.</p> <p>They stated this in separate messages to commemorate the International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day or May Day.</p> <p>Lawan, in a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, said Nigerian workers across the generations had continued to drive economic productivity, nation-building and democratic governance.</p> <p>He said, “The Nigerian labour movement has a proud heritage beginning from the heroic contributions of its founding fathers like Pa Micheal Imodu and his contemporaries in the struggle for the independence of Nigeria and emancipation of workers and the masses.</p> <p>“I commend their patience, understanding and also their resilience in the face of the current challenges that our nation is facing.</p> <p>“The National Assembly believes in the well-being and welfare of the workers and will always provide legislative support for every effort to tackle their challenges and improve the work environment.”</p> <p>In his message, Fayemi assured workers in the state of his administration’s resolve to continue to accord their welfare a priority, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state’s accruals from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue.</p> <p>The governor, who lauded the workers’ contribution to the social and economic development of the state, said they had demonstrated brilliance and commitment in the implementation of his administration’s five-pillar development agenda.</p>

Ndudi Elumelu, the Minority leader, House of Representatives that some imaginary members of the ruling party have met with him to discuss their desire to join the sinking opposition party.</p> <p>“My immediate reaction was to ignore this delusion, but because of the consideration for unsuspecting and innocent members of our great party and constituents who we represent at the House of Representatives, we owe them this clarification.</p> <p>“It, therefore, remains a curious slant that Hon Ndudi Elumelu in the heat of the current situation does not have the presence of mind to face squarely the matter that affects every Nigerian rather opting to embark on a voyage of political philandering of looking for new Members for an opposition party that is like a sinking ship beyond salvage.</p> <p>“It clearly shows the kind of opposition we unfortunately have, if the minority leader will want to use the meeting of their party to announce q non-existent news of phantom members of the ruling party that wants to decamp to a party in dire straits bereft of solutions to a national, non-partisan problem, that is traceable to their abdication of responsibility when the issue should have been nipped at the bud at its infancy when the opposition party held sway.</p> <p>“I wish to affirm without any doubt that the infantile claim of the minority leader that some members of the All Progressives Congress in the House of Representatives are thinking of joining the Peoples Democratic Party remain a figment of his warped imagination and that of his co-travellers on that infamous wishful thinking journey.</p> <p>“I say with all emphasis that members of the All Progressives Congress are focused, too united, determined and fully committed to working with the President, Commander in Chief, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, and standing in one accord with all Nigerians at this time to find a lasting solution to the challenge of insecurity that does not recognise partisan tendencies.</p> <p>“We believe that working together with the leadership of the House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, who only recently in his unprecedented but pragmatic manner had pushed concrete legislative support actions to stem the tide of the insecurity challenge, ranging from appreciation and acknowledgement of our compatriots in uniform on the battle field, to fastracking appropriation, among others.</p> <p>“The most recent of such interventions of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila is the setting up of a non-partisan broad spectrum”special adhoc committee on security.”</p> <p>“The committee is currently working out the modalities to hold a week long crucial security Summit, where statesmen, security chiefs, and other relevant stakeholders will converge to proffer solutions to the rather unfortunate lingering security problems bedevelling our Country.</p> <p>“Without doubts we shall be counted as an integral and veritable partner and component that worked to defeat this national challenge, and when we do, which will be soon with all reasonable hands on deck.</p> <p>“This is our sacred commitment as Members of the All Progressives Congress in the 9th House of Representatives beyond the lousy tendencies of a sinking opposition party,” he added.</p>

But the previous contractor, we can all see, did not finish the work. We went round to look at the transformer but it is not yet energised and it is just really unacceptable.</p> <p>“Basically, I am here to see the renovation work that has gone on in here and also listen to them about the challenges they are having. As you probably must have known, health is one of the major pillars of this administration.</p> <p>“So, we have to keep working to ensure that the health care in Oyo State is well delivered.”</p>

You have a situation where the military is in all the states of the federation, then you ask yourself, how many do we have?</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“Are we not overstretching them? So the reality is the responsibility of securing this country is ours, all of us.</p> <p>“We have a role to play, and we must play it for the sake of the country and for the sake of our children and grandchildren, not for the sake of the persons that in office.</p> <p>“I think we better be serious about this issue of security. If you say set up a state of emergency, what do you do? We’re having the same people, the same security agencies, the same capacities, and the same resources. So what are we talking about?”</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifSSt2Gbx0CVbrZIxYB61H4bvfvg0ybYTCvBMjjhZFriA8UefpZR9t9kMSuNnWvMF1sxaVzQjTG8RgZKFtUTyYwlG4zaYfwjbx4M3Aopk1vq6gi3_BiDprhhXLBp3hDBot1j_7z5knKKc/s700/3BA9C90F-9E34-470A-86BE-CCC0B3B54D34.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="467" data-original-width="700" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifSSt2Gbx0CVbrZIxYB61H4bvfvg0ybYTCvBMjjhZFriA8UefpZR9t9kMSuNnWvMF1sxaVzQjTG8RgZKFtUTyYwlG4zaYfwjbx4M3Aopk1vq6gi3_BiDprhhXLBp3hDBot1j_7z5knKKc/w400-h266/3BA9C90F-9E34-470A-86BE-CCC0B3B54D34.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div> <p><br /></p> <p><b>Lagos State Government has launched a mental health helpline tagged ‘The Lagos Lifeline’; which is a tele-Mental Health service that provides Lagos residents with access to psychosocial support, counselling and psychotherapy services.</b></p> <p>The services will be free of charge through a dedicated line – 0909000MIND or 0909000646.</p> <p>Speaking on Thursday at the formal launch of the facility, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi said the Lagos Lifeline is a Mental Health Crisis Management service designed to bridge the gap in the availability of mental health service.</p> <p>“The Lagos Lifeline provides a bridge to meet various challenges militating against access to mental health services including, the incidence of suicidal attempts, poor access to mental health services for patients in hard-to-reach areas, Stigma to Mental Health Issues and patients who need treatment, poor access to information and referral to neighboring health facilities providing mental health services and poor linkages for mental health support for victims of Domestic and S3xual Violence”, Abayomi stated.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>He noted that the objective of the Lagos Lifeline is geared towards providing improved access to simple diagnostic, counselling, and referral services for Lagosians, either as first point-of-call, or for follow-up care.</p> <p>While stating that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made mental health a priority, the Commissioner averred that this is evident in government’s implementation activities targeted at increasing access to mental health care at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health infrastructure.</p> <p>Abayomi disclosed that the State Government has conceptualized a Mental Health Institute with a capacity for 500 bed psychiatric hospital and 1000 bed rehabilitation Centre at Ketu Ejirin in furtherance of its efforts to improve access to mental health services.</p> <p>He said: “To make sure that we pick up mental health early, we are refurbishing our psychiatric wards in our general hospitals and in our tertiary hospital at LASUTH, and going beyond that, we have currently designed and conceptualized probably the largest mental health institute in Nigeria; it will be 500 bed psychiatric hospital coupled with 1000 bed for rehabilitation.</p> <p>“It was originally scheduled to be built in Majidun but it will be too big for Majidun, so we had to move it to Ketu-Ejirin where we have a lot of space. It is going to be on 15 hectares of land, we are currently reclaiming the lands.</p> <p>“We have appointed the contractors, work will start this year and it will become the focal point of our mental health strategy where we will provide Lagosians with access to mental health services and train persons who are skilled in recognizing and treating mental health”.</p> <p>The Commissioner hinted that the state government will expend resources to address mental health issues particularly as it affects emerging issues of stress, anxiety, stigmatization and mental health disorders associated with a mega city like Lagos.</p> <p>While noting that mental health is one of the disciplines in health that has been neglected, Abayomi averred that the present administration is trying to make up for the neglect by investing in infrastructure and human resource development to manage and address mental health issues.</p> <p>“So while we plan to commemorate this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we will keep going with a lot of energy. We will ensure that we develop the human resources that are able to manage mental disorders, more importantly create the opportunity to detect tell-tale science very early and treat them before they become serious problems, and at the end, just making life easier for Lagosians will go a long way to easing mental disorder, mental stress and mental anxiety”, he said.</p> <p>Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye said the COVID19 pandemic and its ensuing response including the lockdown strategy brought to fore some health issues that are linked to mental health prompting the need for improved access to mental health services.</p> <p>He said: “The Ministry of Health recognized early that there is a reason to strengthen our mental health program and our mental health response and this is what led to the setup of the Lagos Lifeline. We have a team of dedicated staff led by Dr Ajumale who has been extremely committed to this process to help set up the help line”.</p> <p>Explaining how the Lifeline works, Ogboye said “we have people who have been trained in responding to callers. People call in and speak with one of our trained Lifeline counselors who find out what the challenges are and provide help as required.</p> <p>“Sometimes the Lifeline contact ends with that single conversation and sometimes it requires further engagement. The Lifeline counselors are volunteers and they sometimes reach back to people or take calls back again from people. There is a back and front that resolves issues and sometimes we refer specific mental health issues to mental professionals for further engagement and management”.</p> <p>The Permanent Secretary stated that the Lifeline is a 24hours service that has linkage to a much bigger program and services for mental health in Lagos state.</p> <p>Also speaking, the Head Special Projects and State Mental Health Desk Officer, Dr. Tolu Ajomale explained that the goals of the Lifeline are to: provide Psychological First Aid and Social Support service, alleviate the strain on existing public health resources by creating a coordination point to refer patients for appropriate care and serve as a Mental Health campaign Feedback system.</p> <p>Other goals according to him are to: create valuable data points that can be used to track prevalence and cycle of care for Mental Health in Lagos State, access to mental health services for patients in hard-to-reach areas, improve linkages for victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence and Suicidal Threats and Emergency Medical Services.</p>

Before the day of the incident, we held a vigil and she was fine. Her fasting was supposed to be for 14 days, but the incident happened on the 10th day. God is my witness, there is nothing hidden here.</p> <p>“Her daughter, Oluwatise, was also with her in the church during the spiritual exercise and they always slept together. The incident happened around 7am. I was praying on the altar when one of the church members informed me that she had passed out.</p> <p>“When I moved closer to assess her, I observed that she could not stand up and when I called her name, she answered faintly. We had to rush her to the Igando General Hospital for treatment, but she died.”</p> <p>The pastor explained that he went to the Idimu Police Station to report the incident, adding that during investigation, the police detained him and the General Overseer of the church.</p> <p>He stated, “When I reported the incident, the police took my statement and that of the victim’s daughter. But the General Overseer and I were detained for three days and the police also visited the church to conduct an investigation.</p> <p>“But the family insisted on not pressing any charge and after the police investigation, we were released. I met with the woman’s family immediately after the incident and they accepted what happened as fate.</p> <p>“During the spiritual exercise, she was fasting and praying, and usually broke her fasts with honey and water. But on the 10th day, she became very weak and we had to rush her to hospital to save her, but she died.</p> <p>“After the incident, we insist that anyone embarking on fasting and prayer in the church must break with pap instead of honey and water that we usually use. Anyone who refuses won’t be allowed to embark on the spiritual exercise in the church.”</p> <p>Further findings revealed that the family was making plans to convey the victim’s remains from the Yaba General Hospital mortuary to her hometown in Ekiti State for the burial rites.</p> <p>A source, however, told our correspondents that Owoyele had been fasting and praying on her own over her failed marriage before she sought spiritual help in the church.</p> <p>“The woman’s daughter said she was in the habit of running from pillar to post in search of spiritual help so that her husband, who had abandoned her and her daughter for seven years, could return,” the source said.</p> <p>When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the circumstances surrounding Owoyele’s death were sudden and unnatural, adding that investigation was still ongoing.</p> <p>Adejobi stated, “On Saturday, April 24, 2021, around 11.50am, one Alfred Sunday reported that one Joy Owoyele, 30, came to his church, CAC Ori-Oke Gbogunmi, aka Ajanpelebe Mountain, in Isheri Olofin, for prayers on April 14, 2021.</p> <p>“Around 7am on the day of the incident, Owoyele fainted and was rushed to the Igando General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.</p> <p>“Detectives led by Inspector Bridget Edosa visited the scene, inspected the corpse and deposited it in the Yaba General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The case is under investigation.”</p>

Ejike Mbaka, Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma of organizing the killing of Imo State residents.</b></p> <p>Mbaka said although he does not support terrorism, he stands against killing and labeling innocent youths of the country as ‘terrorists’.</p> <p>He opined that the recent jail break in Imo State could be God’s way of releasing his people from prison.</p> <p>Mbaka also wondered why the killing of a top commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, Ikonso Don was being celebrated.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The Cleric further warned the leaders to kill poverty, unemployment and insecurity, because God is angry with them, adding that those advising Uzodinma have killed him while he is still alive.</p> <p>”I can never support terrorism, neither will I allow you to brand our children terrorists when they are not. If some people broke the prison in Owerri, if you caught them, arrest, interrogate them, it may be possible that no human being broke into that prison, it may be jailbreak from God.</p> <p>”It happened in Acts of Apostle chapters 5. There was no jailbreak and nobody was arrested. God can set the prisoners free.</p> <p>”For people to go around and kill our young men without trying them is evil. I’m just warning our Governors. Nigerians are dying like rats and nobody cares; God is angry with leaders, from Buhari to the last. You have failed God.</p> <p>”Hope Uzodinma who came here and put his hand on this altar and swore he will protect the lives of Imolites is now organizing the killing of Imolites and he wants me to keep quiet?</p> <p>”I was keeping quiet until the blood of my brother was shed. Never! Whoever will support that will suffer. How Is it difficult for the military, police and DSS to arrest one person? We are fast becoming a failed state.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“We cannot allow the downward spiral to continue. The government should also urgently seek foreign help,” he said on Twitter.</p> <p>Obi said this amid the attacks on police personnel and formations in the South-East region where he hails from.</p>

Our young ladies are thinking of going into prostitution, young men have nothing doing.”</p> <p>The Cleric maintained that the deplorable state of the nation has led to cultism and idolatry. He also warned leaders of the country to release money they are keeping for the 2023 election.</p> <p>”Young men now visit native doctors to prepare charm. The job of the government now is to kill people and call them terrorists instead of giving them jobs. They said people should farm and now after farming, herdsmen will go and eat the crops and they will not be branded terrorists.</p> <p>”Last week, it was jailbreak, we never heard of such things that are happening now. If the government does not sit up and bring the money they are hiding for 2023, that 2023 will not come.</p> <p>”It will be a story of tragedy. Nobody is safe in this country. Everywhere they are killing people. Only God is protecting us. What will it take to fix power? We have millions of graduates doing nothing and the leaders are not ashamed. Why should parents feed their children after training them? You wonder why our parents don’t live long? Teachers are not well paid, policemen are not being taken care of. If they are killed on duty, no one takes care of their family, what kind of country is this?” he lamented.</p>

She was handed over to the Social Welfare. There were irregularities and lies in the account of her life she gave.</p> <p>“It was discovered that contrary to her claim that her parents died during an accident that left her amputated, it was discovered that her father is very much alive and that she was amputated from birth.</p> <p>“It was also discovered that her presence in Oshodi was staged. Those working with her played on the intelligence of Nigerians to get donations for her.</p> <p>” It came to light when the people started threatening her. She promised some N500,000 others different amounts and was planning to return to her home state when the information leaked.</p> <p>“I had to attach some policemen to her to prevent any attack on her when she went to the bank. We suspected those people might follow her but everything went well as they were not seen.</p> <p>“Presently, the state government is preventing her from accessing the money.</p> <p>“The government does not want a situation where it will become a trend for people to cook up stories, manipulate the people to get donations,” Odumosu explained.</p>
