When you give contractors money, the banks will make sure that they delay release of the money.</p> <p>“The next time any of our contractors complain about their funds not being released to them, that will be the day we will terminate any relationship we have with them.</p> <p>“No bank will hold us to ransom. We cannot continue to work like this. Nobody will frustrate our work. Any contractor that is being frustrated by them, do not hesitate to let us know. We cannot allow them to frustrate our work.”</p> <p>Wike stated that he has fulfilled every promise made to the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area that included schools and roads.</p> <p>Having received such measure of development projects, Wike urged them to stop being politically naive particularly when it comes to giving more votes to the peoples Democratic Party (PDP).</p> <p>“Frankly speaking, what’s important is that nobody will now say that we have not been able to touch Ikwerre Local Government as it is. We have, and nobody can deny that fact.</p> <p>“All these things I have done without giving excuses. But when it is your turn, you’ll say they came and carried your results away.</p> <p>“Stay and defend your votes. It is a challenge to Sir. Celestine Omehia, Chris Orji and Samuel Nwanosike, all of you.</p> <p>“I do know that all of us have agreed to do this together. Therefore, whatever promise we have made as a party, and as an administration, we have no excuse but to fulfill the promise that we have made to you.”</p> <p>Performing the flag-off, former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr. Tele Ikuru described governor Wike as a champion who puts the interest of the state above all other considerations.</p> <p>“A people deserve the kind of leadership they get. In 2015, we were offered two choices; a champion and an accredited stooge. We selected you the champion.</p> <p>“Between the time you’ve come to government and today, it is one project or the other. It is either you’re commissioning or flagging off project.</p> <p>“You have shown your love for this state numerously. For everything that you discuss with any person anywhere and place, you will discuss the interest of Rivers people into it.”</p> <p>In his description of the Aluu -Omagwa Road project, Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi said the road will be reconstructed into a 9.82km long and 9.3km wide.</p> <p>According to him, the road will bring transportation access, serve as alternative route to Omagwa and the Port Harcourt international Airport while also attract numerous benefits to the host and adjoining communities.</p> <p>On his part, the chairman of Ikwerre council, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, thanked the governor for the numerous projects his administration has executed in the council.</p> <p>He stated that when the road is completed, it will boost the economic fortune of farmers who will be able to take their produce to markets in Port Harcourt and other parts of the State.</p>

But this government is not sensitive to the plight of its citizens. While others are being treated well a majority of the sections of this country are neglected.</p> <p>“The Fulanis are carrying AK 47 rifles and moving freely and unchallenged by our security operatives but when they catch other peope who carry such weapons for self-defence they use all kinds of force to make sure they put them in prison or even kill them for carrying guns to defend themselves.” Mr. Tom said</p> <p>“Mr. President should know that they cannot kill us all before the expiration of his tenure and we know that it will not be possible for him to appoint another of his tribal man to rule this country.</p> <p>“His administration is coming to an end soon and should Nigerians take up arms against his people in the end how would he imagine that situation, because I see the possibility if this ugly situation continues and the behaviour of the government remains unchanged for other tribes in Nigeria” he added.</p>

I normally make N8,000 daily.</p> <p>“I don’t know how to feed my family if things do not improve soon,” he said.</p> <p>A food vendor, Mrs Angela Eze popularly known as (Mama Africa) expressed worry that the situation might affect the economy of the state drastically.</p> <p>She appealed to government to use diplomacy and find lasting solution to the problem.</p> <p>In Onitsha, Anambra, some travellers going to Asaba and other parts of the country expressed dismay over delays caused by security checks at the busy Niger Bridge.</p> <p>Those who spoke to NAN said travellers were made to spend hours at the Bridgehead before crossing.</p> <p>Those who managed or succeeded to cross over to Asaba and vice versa did so trekking or using commercial motorcycles.</p> <p>A traveller, who pleaded anonymity, said he joined an early morning vehicle heading to Lagos but was delayed by the check point mounted by the Police and Nigeria Army.</p> <p>“I have spent more than three hours here trying to drive across the bridgehead.</p> <p>“They said some gunmen killed five soldiers yesterday at Ihiala.</p> <p>“I believe that this is why they are delaying us here,” the source said.</p> <p>A commercial driver, Mr Kelechi Onwudiwe attributed the intensified security checks to the sit-at-home directive by members of the proscribed IPOB.</p> <p>“The traffic here in Onitsha is terrible. It is deliberately caused by soldiers who are searching for members of IPOB,” Onwudiwe said.</p> <p>In his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the security check was a routine exercise.</p> <p>Ikenga said the checkpoint was part of strategies security agencies used to control and screen people coming and leaving the state.</p> <p>“The check has been there before now even before the sit-at-home order.</p> <p>“The purpose of the check point is to screen road users, detect crime and maintain law and order.</p> <p>“In as much as we are still analysing the security situation, the check point is like an ordinary day exercise for us,” he said.</p> <p>The spokesman said the Police were bent on delivering its mandate of protecting lives and property</p>

Recently, I saw a story claiming that I was in a relationship with a male artiste but I don’t react to such claims anymore. I just want to be myself. I will not get married and still be unhappy. I am currently dating myself. My mother once bought me a diamond ring. She just wanted me to settle down. I have sacrificed a lot to take care of my family. Their only previous encounter in a final came in 1986 in the short-lived Full Members Cup, when Chelsea won 5-4 at Wembley.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a>That was before the Premier League and modern Champions League existed, before Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and before the Abu Dhabi takeover of City in 2008. Between them, they have now won seven of the last 10 Premier League titles. <p>The west London club had a head-start in terms of becoming big-spenders and as a club they have the experience of this stage in Europe before, having beaten Bayern Munich on penalties on their own turf in the 2012 final.</p> <p>They have also won the Europa League twice since then.</p> <p>City, though, have never made it this far but are finally here, after 13 years of enormous investment from the Gulf and four previous years of disappointment under Guardiola, the man who was hired principally to win them the European Cup.</p> <p>After romping to the Premier League title, their third in four years, and having also won the League Cup this season, a City side starring the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias are the clear favourites at the Estadio do Dragao as they target a treble.</p> <p>“We as players understand the magnitude of the game tomorrow,” influential midfielder De Bruyne said in a press conference on Friday. “If you win you’re a hero, if you lose you’re almost a failure.</p> <p>“Everyone understands the pressure but we should be enjoying this game. Take it as something where you want to perform and show your best.”</p> <p>City know all about Chelsea’s threat. Chelsea have beaten City twice in the last six weeks, first in the FA Cup semi-finals and then at the Etihad Stadium in the league.</p> <p>They have been transformed since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as coach in January, even if they did finish the domestic season with three defeats in four games including the Cup final against Leicester City.</p> <p>“They are maybe in the moment the strongest team in Europe and maybe in the world. They have built a huge gap between them and us in the league but we closed the gap for 90 minutes at Wembley and away at City and this is what we want to do tomorrow,” Tuchel said on Friday.</p> <p>The German has declared midfielder N’Golo Kante and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy fit to play after knocks, while there was a scare for City on Friday as top scorer Ilkay Gundogan limped out of their last training session.</p> <p>Covid-19 again casts a shadow over the final, which is only being played in Porto after the last-minute decision to move the game from Istanbul.</p> <p>The Turkish metropolis was denied the chance to host the occasion for the second year running after the UK government put the country on its travel red list, making it impossible for fans of either finalist to attend the game from England.</p> <p>Just like last year when Lisbon was the last-minute solution, Portugal rode to the rescue again, and fans will be there with the country one of the few on the UK’s green travel list.</p> <p>There can be few more charming final host cities than Porto, with its cobbled streets tumbling down towards the waterfront which looks across to the Port wine warehouses on the other side of the Douro River.</p> <p>English fans were starting to gather on Friday on cafe terraces under blazing blue skies. With Portuguese authorities allowing the Estadio do Dragao to be filled to 33 per cent capacity, there will be 16,500 spectators in total on the ground, including 6,000 fans of each club.</p> <p>Many more are expected to gather in the city without tickets.</p> <p>Portuguese police have said dealing with such an influx of English fans is “an operation of great complexity”.</p>

Do not download or open suspicious email attachments.</p> <p>“Do not open emails from suspicious recipients.</p> <p>“Furthermore, if paying up seems like the only reason to get your files back, we strongly advise against ransom payments.</p> <p>NITDA added that various cybersecurity experts do not recommend paying up due to the following reasons:</p> <p>“The criminals might stop responding as soon as you transfer money to their virtual wallet address.</p> <p>“The so-called decryption tool can be faulty or fail to work due to data modification on your end avoiding funding this illegal business model. The fact that ransomware operators collect millions in ransoms each year simply encourages people to join this cybercrime industry.”</p> <p>China had recently warned financial institutions against offering cryptocurrency services.</p> <p>China’s National Internet Finance Association, China Banking Association, and the Payment and Clearing Association of China, in a joint statement announced the ban, declaring that crypto has no real value and that the price can be manipulated.</p> <p>Before China’s decision, Microsoft founder, Bill Gates had said he has not invested.</p> <p>The billionaire listed other areas he put money into, but added that he had no problem with those who make their money via digital currency.</p> <p>On claims that bitcoin production could be damaging to the environment, Gates said he was not totally convinced that was the case.</p>

The formula was in use as of October 1963.</p> <p>The NDC said it noticed the “glaring unseriousness of the committee from the conduct of the committee members”.</p> <p>The organization stressed that its appearance at the public hearing was to put on record the stance of the Niger Delta regarding the 1999 constitution.</p> <p>“We would like to categorically state that the NDC is against the 1999 Nigerian constitution as amended and calls for a brand new constitution.</p> <p>“We would also like to state that the fate of the Niger Delta is not dependent on the actions or inaction of the committee, but in our hands as a people.</p> <p>“The Niger Delta people do not plan on waiting on the committee to address the existential issues affecting the people and region”, the statement added.</p>

Their only previous encounter in a final came in 1986 in the short-lived Full Members Cup, when Chelsea won 5-4 at Wembley.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a>That was before the Premier League and modern Champions League existed, before Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and before the Abu Dhabi takeover of City in 2008. <p>The west London club had a head-start in terms of becoming big-spenders and as a club they have the experience of this stage before, having beaten Bayern Munich on penalties on their own turf in the 2012 final.</p> <p>They have also won the Europa League twice since then.</p> <p>City, though, have never made it this far but are finally here, after 13 years of enormous investment from the Gulf and four previous years of disappointment under Guardiola, the man who was hired principally to win them the European Cup.</p> <p>“We are quite a similar team to what we were in the past when we were knocked out. The margins and little details this year fell down on our side whereas before it was the opposite,” said Guardiola, who is looking to win his third Champions League as a coach, a decade after his last victory with Barcelona.</p> <p>After romping to the Premier League title, their third in four seasons, and having also won the League Cup this season, a City side starring the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias are the clear favourites at the Estadio do Dragao.</p> <p>Chelsea, though, have beaten City twice in the last six weeks, first in the FA Cup semi-final and then at the Etihad Stadium in the league.</p> <p>“I could not expect a tougher opponent,” Guardiola said.</p> <p>They have been transformed since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as coach in January, even if they did finish the domestic season with three defeats in four games including the FA Cup final against Leicester City. </p> <p>“We have arrived here. This is an incredible achievement and once you arrive you want to be on your very best, but it’s City with Pep on the other side who are maybe at the moment the best in Europe, maybe in the world,” said Tuchel, who was given a boost as fitness concerns Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante returned to training on Wednesday.</p> <p>“It is on us again to close the gap for 90 minutes and the good thing is we did it already.</p> <p>“In football everything is possible and in a final everything is possible.”</p> <p>Of course Covid-19 casts a shadow over the final, which is only being played in Porto after the last-minute decision to move the game away from Istanbul.</p> <p>The Turkish metropolis was denied the chance to host the occasion for the second year running after the UK government put the country on its travel red list, making it impossible for fans of either finalist to attend the game from England.</p> <p>Just like last year when Lisbon was the last-minute solution, Portugal rode to the rescue again, and fans will be there with the country one of the few on the UK’s green travel list.</p> <p>With Portuguese authorities allowing the Estadio do Dragao to be filled to 33 per cent capacity, there will be 16,500 spectators in total, including 6,000 fans of each club.</p> <p>Portuguese police have said dealing with such an influx of English fans as the country opens its borders again will be “an operation of great complexity”.</p> <p><br /></p> <p><br /></p> <p>AFP</p>

Yes, the Governor of Ebonyi State pulls no punches whenever he decides to speak. No tongue-in-cheek, he just fires from all cylinders.</p> <p>That was what he did when he was special guest at the State House Press Briefing in Abuja last week. There were many issues of concern in his part of the country, and the Governor did not shy away from any.</p> <p>In recent times, police stations, offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other Federal assets have come under attack in the South East. They have been incinerated, and scores of policemen killed. Whodunnit? Leaders of the region have opted for ‘unknown gunmen,’ perhaps out of fear of being objects of attack themselves. But Umahi was deadpan:</p> <p>“We are the ones killing ourselves, not foreigners. We have to tell ourselves the truth if we want the problem solved.”</p> <p>The Governor said he may not agree with the formation of the militant wing of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), known as ESN (Eastern Security Network), “but we know why it was formed.”</p> <p>He said it was a direct reaction to the invasion of the region by both local and foreign herdsmen, who attack farmers particularly, destroy their crops, rape their wives, and kill people. </p> <p>“We don’t want herders killed, but neither should they violate our cultural values. That was why we formed Ebube Agu, which is a kind of regional security group. It has been signed into law to protect our people. If you cause problems in any part of the South East, Ebube Agu will deal with you, no matter who you are.”</p> <p>Ask Umahi what the South East really wants. A country of their own, as is being championed from some quarters? He demurs:</p> <p>“We are Nigerians. We want to belong to a fair, just, equitable Nigeria. We want a country of fairness, equity, justice, and freedom. I want a Biafra of equity and justice, not one of killing policemen and burning of INEC offices. There’s no region that does not have issues in the country, but grievances should be looked at through dialogue, and not by taking the laws into your hands. Killing is not the character and culture of our people. It is sheer criminality.”</p> <p>The Governor laments that 99% of security agents killed so far in the region “are from the South East. They are our brothers and sisters. It is not good for us. We shed tears. Our people should be wise, and deploy wisdom at this critical time.”</p> <p>He said the agitators should give leadership of the region their demands, “ and we will address them within six months. But we are not with them in insulting the President of the country. It is foolishness.”</p> <p>One way to combat poverty, insecurity and restiveness is through development. Gov Umahi spoke on giant strides in Ebonyi, a State he said he met in massive poverty, but which he is trying strenuously to turn around.</p> <p>“We inherited poverty, and have demolished it, though there are still some traces. Even Jesus says the poor will always be around. But we do our best, and wish we can do more.”</p> <p>Talking further on development as means of combating poverty, Gov Umahi spoke of keeping the people gainfully busy through agriculture, industry, rice mills, cassava flour processing, ultramodern shopping malls with over 50,000 stalls, road networks, a medical university being constructed, colleges of nursing, of technology, and human development generally.</p> <p>“About 95% of our projects are done through direct labour. This ensures that there’s no capital flight from the State.</p> <p>“We are doing everything to increase value for education. When you are educated, you won’t carry guns at the instigation of juju men, who promise invincibility. It doesn’t happen. You can’t be brainwashed into believing in a shrine that gets destroyed, and the shrine can’t respond.”</p> <p>Gov Umahi loves President Buhari, and had always done so before he moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC). And the President returns the gesture duly. I recall that it was Ebonyi that the President first visited in his first term, and stayed the night. He was even invested with two chieftaincy titles by the royal fathers.</p> <p>“President Buhari is doing a lot for the country,“ Gov Umahi says. “He started early on agriculture, otherwise, there would have been severe hunger in the country today. Lots of opportunities have been provided by the Federal Government, but our people don’t want to work again. Government has come with great empowerment opportunities, and they need to embrace and utilize these things.”</p> <p>Now, to perhaps the biggest issue in the country. Presidency in 2023. Which region should get it? Was that the reason Umahi decamped to the APC? And would he stay, if he didn’t get the party’s ticket? The man is as frank as ever:</p> <p>“I’m in APC, but it’s not conditional. It is not predicated on the party zoning its presidential ticket to the South East. If we are talking of justice, it is the turn of the South East. No good person from the region will preach seceding. We’re better off in South East under a fair Federal Government. We used to be houseboys and house girls before Ebonyi State was created. But not anymore. All we are asking for is a fair Nigeria. But I’m not in APC just because of presidential ticket.”</p> <p>A parting shot from the Governor?</p> <p>“We can do with more patriotism in Nigeria. Fake news is a big problem fueling insecurity. We need patriotism to fight both insecurity and poverty.”</p> <p>Very well said.</p>

So, if we say contribute 3%, is that too much? The market sells to who? Is it not selling to the people of Katsina State? Is the market selling to itself? So, everybody will contribute. I am contributing 20%. All the political appointees in the state will contribute 20%.</p> <p>“For the civil servant, what is 3% of thirty thousand? Is it up to three hundred naira?</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“This month of may is late. But I’m sure by June, everybody will contribute. That is how you make people more responsible and responsive.</p> <p>“It is our problem collectively. So, let us solve it collectively. Even if government pays the money. Is it not taking it from the tax payers’ money? Is it not their money? So, what is it? The salaries they are taking where are they taking from?” Governor Aminu Bello Masari said.</p> <p>Recall that Katsina State Government in conjunction with Katsina Organized Labour announced earlier this month that all categories of state employees as well as political office holders will contribute part of their salaries to support victims of the Katsina Central Market inferno.L</p> <p>The State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Ahmad El-marzuq said the decision was arrived at after the executive council deliberated on the reports of the white paper committee set up to look into the market fire disaster.</p> <p>El-marzuq disclosed that three percent would be deducted from the salaries of all Civil Servants from grade level 01 to grade level 14 for one month only to help rebuild the market and support victims of the fire disaster.</p> <p>Equally, he said twenty percent would be deducted from the salaries of politicians, including that of the Governor and members of his cabinet.</p>

The Social Security Bill must also work so that jobless people can get stipends pending when they will get full employment. What can we do very quickly to save this country which is on the verge of collapse? If you don’t want people to break away from Nigeria, we must give them confidence and sense of belonging, don’t declare a war,” he said.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Falana said for the constitutional amendment to be fruitful, for Nigeria to have genuine outputs from this meeting, peace must reign.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>He stated that Nigeria’s problem must be addressed frontally, as well as give people the confidence of peace and inclusion if the government must kill the cries for secession.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“In fact, in some parts of the country, the 2023 elections are already threatened. “INEC offices are being burnt, police stations are being burnt. In that kind of atmosphere, we cannot pretend that there is political stability in our country.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“Essentially, I am making a case for the poor, the masses of our people who are generally not represented in fora of this nature which are most times for the elites and privileged among our people,” he added.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>The rights lawyer explained that chapter two of the constitution guaranteed the right to education, health, living minimum wage, good adequate housing, unemployment benefits, among others, but that members of the ruling class conspired and agreed, regardless of political affiliation, that these provisions shall not be enforceable or made justiciable.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“But unless we are prepared to make these provisions justiciable and enforceable, this country will know no peace. Whatever constitution will come forth after now must make justiciable the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state without which there will be no political stability in Nigeria,” he said.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Falana submitted that the Child Rights Act enacted in 2003 be made applicable throughout Nigeria, adding that as of today, only 25 states have adopted the law, “but even then, not fully implemented. Unfortunately, it is states where banditry, kidnapping and terrorism thrive that have refused to adopt or domesticate the law, and that is where banditry, terrorism, and kidnappers recruit daily.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“We also advocate a 50/50 representation for men and women in government. We should emulate other African countries where women even take a larger percentage in government affairs.”</p>

Bello Matawalle said some bandits who willingly submitted their guns have been resettled in Gusau.</p>

Please, let no one come to Mowe from Abeokuta through Owode-Ofada again. Just follow the straight jacket express road. Brother Kehinde Ojo narrated the kidnap of two people by that Petrol station by Ofada-Owode axis. One of them is Bro Kenny’s church member. He personally delivered the ransom of N6.5 million yesterday or so. That is the third kidnap in that axis. 8 Fulani herdsman did this one. We learnt that several of them have besieged that Papa area of Ofada. They are lurking in that bush now. E jowo o, keep off that side completely. A ko ni sonu o.”</p> <p>But the police debunked the claim, describing it as false alarm.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“The Command wishes to state categorically that the information is nothing but a false alarm and a calculated attempt to cause panic in the mind of the people, most especially those living in that axis,” Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesperson told newsmen.</p> <p>According to Oyeyemi, the only kidnapping case ever recorded in the area mentioned is that of a woman ambushed and abducted in her farm alongside her visitor on May 1.</p> <p>Oyeyemi added that the said abductees have since regained their freedom and some suspects were arrested in connection with the case.</p> <p>“It is, therefore, a thing of surprise that somebody would just sit down in the comfort of his room and declare the entire area unsafe because of an isolated incident,” he laments.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the command has advised the general public to discountenance the information in its entirety, saying it is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers.</p> <p>The police spokesman added that the command is doing everything to ensure the safety of Ogun people, asking that the cooperation of everybody is needed in this regard.”</p>
