It was gathered that she died in Egypt.
Maryam Bayero has been sick in a Hospital in Cairo after being admitted for weeks.
Maryam Bayero is the Daughter of Emir of Illorin, Kwara State, Sulu Gambari, wfie of late Emir Ado Bayero and Mother to the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and Emir of Bichi Nasiru Ado Bayero.

The war of words between members of the House of Representatives over Ali Pantami saga has continued.
On Saturday, the Spokesperson of the House, Benjamin Kalu in a statement, insisted that the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu used the wrong order in his legislative intervention.
The statement was in response to a press statement by the Spokesperson of the Minority Caucus, Francis Agbo, who said on Friday that Mr Kalu erroneously misrepresented legislative proceedings on the point of order raised by Elumelu.
It would be recalled that Mr Elumelu had on Wednesday raised a point of Order on Privilege. Elumelu in his point of order called for resignation of the Minister for alleged link to extremists.

Mr Kalu, in his statement, insisted that the House will entertain a motion on Pantami if properly presented as a motion of urgent public importance or motion on notice.
“The House acknowledges the severity of the issue and its nature as a matter of public concern. As always, the House stands ready to give audience to Rep. Ndudi Elumelu or any other member of the House on this issue, provided that such audience is sought through the proper channels and brought under the relevant rules of the House,” the statement reads in part.
Mr Kalu explained why the use of Order 6 rule 1 and 2 was erroneous.
“That there are only two motions recognised by the House rules; Motion on Matters of Urgent Public Importance and Motion on Notice, the minority leader could have come under either of these but he erroneously chose to come by way of privileges.
“That the relevant issue raised by Hon Elumelu which is of national importance is inadmissible under privileges for what it seeks to address, since matters under privilege, once breached, must be personal and internal to the House.
“This is why all matters of privilege are sent to the House committee on ethics and privileges, not to the President directly as the house resolution as alleged by the yet to be tutored “spokesman” of the minority caucus. One wonders what the house committee on ethics and privilege will be doing with the sack of Pantami,” he stated.
He also explained that “there is no debate on privileges unless a motion has arisen from it, in which case, it must be seconded before debated in line with the house rules and procedure to a motion.”
The Spokesperson reiterated that the House stands by the legislative procedure as interpreted by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila on Elumelu’s point of order.

A Nigerian man, whose sister-in-law, Dorathy Yohanna, was among the three Greenfield University students killed by bandits, has written a letter to the presidency.
Recall that three students of Greenfield who were abducted by bandits were found dead in Kwanan Bature village, a place close to the university.
The man identified as Yamai, via his Twitter page @Ydcoal, urged presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi, to talk to his boss about the state of insecurity.
According to him, there seems to be no purpose of life as the government had failed in fulfilling its sole responsibility to the people.

His tweets read, “Hi @toluogunlesi, my sister-in-law was among the three dead students from Greenfield University. We are all trying to unpack our feelings. People’s children have become sports for bandits and kidnappers.
“I am very angry right now because there’s just so much I don’t understand anymore. What’s the purpose of life as a Nigerian? What’s the sole responsibility of a government for/to the people?
“I’m being marginalised as a Christian in my state. I go elsewhere and I’m being stereotyped. Today, my sister is dead. I cannot for the life of me imagine what she went through in the hands of these evil men before her untimely death. Can you? How do I comfort my wife?
“How can a mother bury her child? What’s the purpose of thoughts and prayers? Do we deserve to live and die like this in our own country? Do you understand why some of us choose to be “slaves” elsewhere than “kings” at home?”
“The pain is unbearable. Everyone deserves the benefit of doubt, but do you think this government still deserves any? I need answers. They still have about twenty more kids with some to be killed tomorrow if they don’t get what they asked for.
“Where do we go from here Tolu? Do we worry about tomorrow? Do we believe in a fair, just and righteous God? My mother-in-law hasn’t eaten or showered in 3 days since her daughter, whom she saw on Monday, got kidnapped & this death was the answer to her prayers.
“You’re not the president, I know, but please talk to your boss. The evil we do or our negligence surely does come around one way or the other. That’s the circle of life. Do something!! Bless you!!” He added.
Tolu, responding, offered his condolences to the bereaved.
”I’m so sorry to hear this Yamai. My deepest condolences,” he wrote.

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has called on civil society organisations and Nigerians to legally compel the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to prosecute Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, for terrorism.
The lawyer also lambasted the Presidency for exonerating Pantami’s past radical comments supporting the activities of terrorist groups like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. He described the defence of presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu that Pantami had apologised and should be forgiven as “pedestrian argument”.
In a statement on Friday titled, ‘Can Dr. Isa Pantami Be Prosecuted For Acts Of Terrorism?’, Ozekhome said though Pantami cannot be prosecuted under the Terrorism Act, because his alleged terrorist acts occurred between 2000 and 2006 prior to the enactment of the Terrorism Act in 2011 but the communications minister can be prosecuted under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act.
“The combustible and inflammable comments of Dr. Pantami no doubt were intended to cause fear or make any government or bodies abandon a standpoint, induce fear in the public or government, etc. He can be charged under the EFCC Act,” the senior advocate said.

Ozekhome further noted, “Under section 5(2) of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, Pantami can be charged for terrorist activities, because terrorism includes “support” for; and “support” includes (in the words of the Act) “incitement to commit a terrorist act through the internet or any electronic means or through the use of printed materials or through the dissemination of terrorist information”.
“My humble call on Pantami is to resign his ministerial appointment and save this clueless government of further infamy, calumny, obloquy and odium.
“Where he fails or refuses to do so (as I know he would), then President (Muhammadu) Buhari should sack him. Where Buhari refuses (as I know he would), then, any and every Nigerian or NGO that feels sufficiently concerned and aggrieved can approach the courts and ask for an Order of Mandamus, to compel the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, to prosecute Pantami, by virtue of section 174 of the 1999 Constitution. Every Nigerian has the right (locus standi) to do this.”

UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, has threatened to ban the Spanish and Italian teams still adamant about the European Super League from the Champions League.
Although plans for the Super League fell apart this week, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan have still not left the project.
“It’s crystal clear that the clubs will have to decide if they are Super League or they are a European club,” Ceferin said in a telephone interview with the AP.
“If they say we are a Super League, then they don’t play Champions League, of course … and if they are ready to do that, they can play in their own competition.”

The Kano State Fire Service says two persons from the same family died on Friday night fire incident at Zoo Road, Opposite Kano Zoological Garden, on Sheka Municipal.
Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, its Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday in Kano.
It said the incident occurred at about 10.10 pm, at an upper floor with two compartments of about 50 X 50 feet used as a dwelling house.
”Four rooms, two palour, two toilets and two kitchens were razed down.

“We received a distress call from Sabo Wada at about 10.10 p.m that fire gutted a dwelling house in his area and three persons were trapped including a four-year-old girl.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent out our rescue team to the scene at about 10.15 pm.
“Two out of the victims were rescued unconscious and conveyed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed them dead.
”The bodies were handed over to C.S.P Awaisu Suleiman of Sheka Police Division,” he said.
The statement said the victims rescued alive were Fatima Salisu, 4, and Salisu Sani, 45, while the two dead victims were Maryam Sani, 19 (sister), and Nafisa Abdulkarim, 28 (wife).
It said all the victims were of the same family and that the cause of the incident was being investigated.

Owner Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board say they “deeply regret” the decision to join the controversial European Super League.
They were one of six Premier League clubs to join only to withdraw 48 hours later following a furious backlash.
Chelsea fans held a protest on Tuesday to make their feelings known.
“The owner and board understand that involving the club in such a proposal was a decision we should not have taken,” the club said.

Chelsea added that the initial decision to join the Super League was taken because they did not want to risk “falling behind” their English and European rivals.
However, they said they quickly recognised that their involvement risked damaging the club’s reputation.
“We have taken time since withdrawing from the ESL to speak directly the various supporter groups and listen to their views and concerns,” the Blues added.
“Our ambition with Chelsea has always been to make it the best club in the world, both on the pitch and in how we work with, and give back to the community off it.”

Popular music producer, Don Jazzy, has frowned at the way some men treat their wife because of the bride price they paid to secure her hand in marriage.
According to Don Jazzy, disrespecting one’s wife because of the bride price paid is a shallow mindset.
He, however, failed to state whether the disrespect from such men is a result of the high or low bride price demanded from them before they got married to their wife.
The music producer tweeted, “So apparently some of the men that disrespect and treat their wives like sh*t do so becos they paid some useless bride price. Kai, how do we educate the multitude with this shallow mindset?”

One Twitter user, @iam_jaycheqs, whose profile says “women are not properties,” shared her opinion, saying “the bride price tradition needs to go.” According to her, “It holds no water in this modern time and age.”
She added, “What is the purpose? And why won’t a man feel like he owns a person after paying for her?”
She got a reaction from @oncle_thereal who said, “Like Don said, people need to be educated. Culture should not be lost or sacrificed on the altar of modernization. The culture of paying bride price in itself isn’t wrong or bad. It’s the individual mindset that makes things seem wrong. Hence, educating people better.”
@ini61211167 who joined Don Jazzy’s comment section said, “As I’m talking right now, someone is in the village and they’re saying the bride price is 1M naira. I mean right now, just got off the phone with his mum. They know he doesn’t have this money, his in-law has taken a seat far away telling the boy to discuss with his kinsmen smh.”
@owhonda_henry’s case is similar to what @ini61211167 described above. He said, “While I don’t condone any such maltreatment against women, let us start by eradicating the very high bride price, especially in Igbo land. I went to Ngwa to marry and they shocked me by giving a list that cost 1,050.000. I am just sad and confused.”
@ItzMimiLSD stated that the men Don Jazzy spoke of want their wife to worship them because of the bride price they paid.
She said, “This set of men actually didn’t grow with love, they have some stupid ego in them, they feel the woman owes them the whole world just bcuz they paid some silly bride price. This is usually common among men who are still struggling to fit into the ‘middle family’.”
She added, “And then they spend lots of money during the marriage rites so they just keep reminding the woman of how much they paid as bride price and the huge amount of money they spent traditionally to the direct family of the bride. They feel the woman should worship them.”

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, his wife, Dr Mrs Eunice Erdoo Ortom and other top government officials on Friday stormed the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Gboko Road, Makurdi to mark his 60th birthday anniversary.
Governor Ortom who was born on April 23, 1961, is 60 years old today (Friday).
He is expected to meet with widows, orphans and the disabled as part of activities marking his diamond age which according to an earlier statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase will be held low-key.
Other officials who accompanied the Governor to the RCCG included the Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Titus Uba, Secretary to the Benue State Government, Professor Anthony Ijohor, State Head of Service, Mrs Veronica Onyeke are part of the Church Service.

The member, House of Representatives, representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State, Bamidele Salam has noted that the media handlers of the presidency have become very ‘cheap’ in the way they have been communicating the thoughts of President Muhammadu Buhari on issues to Nigerians with regard to the recent surge in insecurity, hyper-inflation and other economic woes bedevilling the country.
According to the journalist turned legislator, the public responses of the numerous presidential spokesman are often inelegant, verbose and disrespectful to the feelings of the generality of peace loving Nigerians.
Bamidele noted that ”not even the office of a local government Chairman deserves that kind of public communication strategy.”
Recently, the responses of Femi Adesina and Malam Garba Sheu; both Special Adviser and Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president have drawn negative reactions from a cross-section of Nigerians.

Things have not gone down well even as Malam Garba Sheu has come out in defence of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami and asking Nigerians to forgive him for his last comments in support of terrorism.
This follows the calls by Nigerians for the resignation of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy over his views on terrorism.
While Dr. Pantami has not publicly apologized, he has, however, acknowledged that he made those statements as a student who was not in tune with what was happening internationally as at the time those statements were made.

Kwara State police command, on Friday confirmed the abduction of a farmer and businessman, Alhaji Alaga Olayemi by seven unidentified gunmen.
It was gathered that Olayemi was kidnapped from his farm around 7p.m on Thursday, at Oke-Onigbin in Isin Local Government Area of the State.
According to the spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, police operatives have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and to rescue the victim.
”One Alhaji Alaga Olayemi was reportedly kidnapped in his farm by seven unknown gunmen.

“Intensive efforts to rescue him has been activated by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Lawal Bagega,” the spokesman stated in a text message on the development to newsmen on Friday.
Olayemi and two others were ambushed and attacked by the yet-to-be identified gunmen on their way home from a maize farm.
After the confrontation with the armed men, the two boys luckily escaped being abducted but not without injuries sustained from machete cuts inflicted by the attackers.
Their master, Olayemi, was, however, kidnapped and ferried to an unknown destination by the gunmen.

The singer in a video via her Instagram account on Thursday stated that she’s a lesbian.
She further noted that she’s been trying to have intimate conversations with her family and friends about coming out.
According to her, when she earlier hinted at being gay during a recent Instagram Live, people thought she was joking.

The Rivers State Police command has confirmed that three persons were shot dead by unknown gunmen due to rival cult clashes in Diobu axis Port Harcourt.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni in a statement said there was a clash between two rival cult groups on Thursday.
“In the receipt of the distress call, operatives of the Diobu Division mobilized massively to the scene but unfortunately on arrival, the cultists had taken to flight, however, the police were able to arrest one of them alive, while three lifeless bodies were at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies.
“The bodies were confirmed dead on arrival at the Hospital and were deposited in the Mortuary. The suspect arrested, one Ejike Paul ‘m’ 36yrs is cooling his heels and helping in Investigation. Meanwhile the Area is calm and close monitoring is on, with an increased Patrol of the area and the entire Metropolis,” he said.

The statement further enjoined the public to go about their lawful activities without fear of molestation, as the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday had vowed to deal decisively with all criminal elements in the State, while appealing for credible information from the public.
However, eyewitnesses say four persons were killed in the attack, including ‘Friday and Smoky’, known by their pseudo names.

Chad will bury veteran ruler Idriss Deby Itno today as concerns mount over the loss of a lynchpin in the fight against jihadism in the Sahel and uncertainty over the country’s democratic future.
President Emmanuel Macron of France, the former colonial power, will attend the ceremony along with a dozen other heads of state and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
The funeral, complete with military honours, is scheduled to take place in the morning in N’Djamena’s main square, La Place de la Nation.
The ceremony is to be followed by prayers at the capital’s Grand Mosque, after which Deby is to be laid to rest alongside his father in the village of Amdjarass next to his birthplace Berdoba, in the far east of the desert country near the border with Sudan.

Chad, with a well respected fighting force, is central to the West’s fight against jihadists in the Sahel, where myriad Islamist extremist groups operate.
France’s 5,100-strong Barkhane anti-jihadist force is headquartered in N’Djamena, capital of the country of 16 million.
Chad was thrown into turmoil by Deby’s death, which was announced on Tuesday, just the day after he was declared the winner of an April 11 election — giving him a sixth mandate after 30 years at the helm.
Deby’s re-election was never in doubt, with a divided opposition, boycott calls and a campaign in which demonstrations were banned or dispersed.
The army said Deby had died on Monday from wounds suffered while leading troops in battle against rebels who had launched an incursion from neighbouring Libya.
The Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT) has vowed to pursue its offensive after a pause for Deby’s funeral, with spokesman Kingabe Ogouzeimi de Tapol telling AFP that the rebels were “en route to N’Djamena”.
On Monday — the day of Deby’s reported death — the army had claimed a “great victory”, saying it had killed more than 300 FACT rebels and captured 150 others, with the loss of five soldiers.
Meanwhile, allies of the late leader moved swiftly to ensure power remained in their hands, installing his 37-year-old son Mahamat, whose nickname is “Kaka”, as president and head of a transitional military council while dissolving parliament and the government.
Following what the opposition called an “institutional coup d’etat”, the transition period is meant to last 18 months and lead to democratic elections, though it can be extended once.
Deby came to power in 1990 and had twice thwarted attempted coups with support from France.
Macron, who met the younger Deby after arriving on Thursday evening, is the only western head of state to have announced plans to attend the funeral.
Other heads of state include those of immediate neighbours Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, as well as Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Macron’s presence suggests that France will give a form of endorsement for his successor son at a time of turbulence, while also setting down parameters for a democratic transition, analysts say.
The funeral presents a major security challenge, with the junta under pressure from the opposition and the FACT rebels, as well as infighting.
Roland Marchal of the International Research Centre at the Sciences-Po school in Paris, warned that an all-powerful elite force called the DDGSSIE, headed by the young Mahamat Deby, “faces the risk of splitting.”

Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, is set to join Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea this summer.
According to Spanish publications, Fichajes, Tuchel is very convinced in the ability of Iheanacho to improve his team’s attack next season.
Iheanacho is one name being considered by Tuchel at Stamford Bridge should the west London club miss out on signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland this summer transfer window.
Tuchel is impressed with the talents of the Nigerian international, who is one of the most in-form strikers in England currently.

The report added that Tuchel is not the biggest fan of Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, with the ex-PSG manager leaving the England international out of Chelsea’s starting XI a few times in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho has so far scored 16 goals in 32 appearances for Leicester City this season.
The 24-year-old joined Leicester City from Manchester City for £24 million in 2017.

Popular Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a minor.
A closed-circuit television installed in the victim’s home captured Omiyinka allegedly molesting the victim while her mother was not at home.
It was learnt that the victim’s mother, who had been suspecting that her daughter was being s3xually abused, installed the CCTV to uncover the perpetrator.
It was gathered that the victim’s mother monitored the situation in her home on her phone and to her dismay, she saw Omiyinka allegedly conducting himself in a suspicious manner around her daughter.

The thespian allegedly took the victim away from the sitting room into the kitchen, where there was no CCTV camera installed, and the mother, who rushed back home upon the discovery, allegedly caught Omiyinka defiling her daughter in the kitchen.
The victim’s mother was said to have been inconsolable after her discovery.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Thursday that Omiyinka was arrested after a case of defilement was reported against him, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that he had been s3xually assaulting the 14-year-old victim since she was seven.
He stated that Omiyinka confessed to the crime, adding that the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.
Adejobi said, “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a popular Nollywood actor, Olarenwaju James (Omiyinka), aka Baba Ijesha, 48, for defiling a minor
“The case of defilement was reported on April 19, 2021, by one Princess Adekola Adekanya at the Sabo Police Station and was transferred to the Gender Unit of the SCIID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.
“Based on preliminary findings, the suspect started sexually assaulting the victim, 14, since she was seven-year-old. The suspect confessed to the crime and was also captured by a CCTV camera in the house of the victim’s mother.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered proper investigation as he promised to do justice in the matter.”

UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, has said there is a “small possibility” that the Champions League semi-final first leg between Real Madrid and Chelsea next week, may not go ahead as punishment for their role in the European Super League.
Real and Chelsea were both part of the 12 big clubs, who announced their intention to form a breakaway competition on Sunday night.
It has now collapsed following protests from fans, players, managers and pundits.
Three of those teams – Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid – are still in the Champions League, while Arsenal and Manchester United are to play in the Europa League semi-finals.

Ceferin has admitted there is a chance the Champions League semi-finals will not go ahead, but warned broadcasting deals make it unlikely.
“The key is that this season has already started, so broadcasters would come at us for damages if we don’t play the semi-finals,” he said on Slovenian TV channel 24UR.
“So, there’s a relatively small possibility that this match isn’t played next week. But, things could be a little different in the future.”

The Grand Patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Cross River State, Chief Fidelis Obi Onyebuske has accused the federal government of failing in leadership.
According to him, the failed leadership brought about insecurity, attacks on security agents and destruction and burning of property at police station and prisons as well as the release of inmates and prisoners.
Chief Onyebuske who was a onetime President General, Igbo Community in Calabar, Cross River State lamented poor security sitiation in Nigeria and blamed it on the failure of the leadership to act proactively particularly, as it concerns herdsmen, and bandits.
Speaking to newsmen, Onyebuske, who is a legal practitioner said, “If there was no failed leadership, no group of people can stand up and burn police station, no, it is as a result of failed leadership.

“Government should do something to make sure that what happened in the North East and North West does not get down to the South East because.
Consequently, the grand patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo urged the federal government to investigate deeply the recent security breaches in the South East to ascertain those responsible for the acts, without which the Igbos will not be comfortable travelling home, “that is my fear” he said.
Speaking further, he explained, “Yes when it comes to issue of security, security is one of the issues that concerns the lives of the people, the people will be comfortable when there is security.
“I know insecurity is part of the society but you do not feel it directly, if it doesn’t happen around you but when it comes to you and living with sense of insecurity that is worse on earth
“We use to hear insecurity coming from North East, North West, but unfortunately it has come down to us,. In some years back, it use to be Niger Delta precisely, River State and Belyalsa, I never dreamt it will come to Igbo land that is South East
“We know that the youths have been very restive in Igbo land particularly the IPOB, they are not very comfortable with the ongoing in the society particularly when it concerns Igbos
“But all these times, from the time of MASSOB to IPOB before it was proscribed, they had been no violence and this sudden act of insecurity which is reportedly carried out by unknown gunmen, I personally cannot ascribed it to a particular group except the group comes out to accept responsibility.
“It is very worrisome, it is not the best thing, particularly in the Igbo community concerning the nature of the society therein. You know we don’t believe in the Monarchy government, respect to the king, respect to this or that. In Igbo, we believe everybody is equal.
“In my local government area, they burnt down the Police station, our neighbours’ Police station was also burnt down, about four Police stations have been burnt down, if they are molested in such form, what is the guarantee that we are safe?” he stated.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia have again attacked Tse-Zoola community in Makirdi Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the community early hours of Wednesday and butchered two residents.
The eldest man in the community, Aho Zoola said the militia herdsmen, without any provocation, attacked the villagers on Wednesday and killed one Zaki Hyacinth Ajon and Benjamin Anakula.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the State, Samuel Ortom, while returning from burial of one Mrs Bridget Mom, stopped his convoy when he noticed that an incident occurred in the area.
<a name='more' id="more"></a>According to Ortom’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Jimin Geoffrey, the governor asked the residents if they had clashed with the Fulani herders prior to the attack but Aho, the eldest man replied that the villagers have never had any issue with herdsmen even when their herds graze on their crops.
The governor after sympathising with the villagers displaced from their homes assured them that he would do everything possible to get security agencies to the area.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has faulted the partial suspension of strike by the Lagos State Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.
JUSUN had on April 6 embarked on industrial action, shutting down courts across the nation, demanding judicial independence.
But JUSUN in Lagos State on Wednesday announced that that it will partially resume work after the state government’s intervention.
Reacting, Adegboruwa described Lagos JUSUN move as unacceptable, saying that Federal Government complied with financial autonomy more than Lagos State.

He said, “This purported partial call off of the strike action by Lagos JUSUN is absolutely unacceptable. From my records, the federal government is in compliance with financial autonomy even more than Lagos State, yet federal workers are on solidarity strike.

Who buys vehicles for judges and staff, is it not the executive?
“Why do we deceive ourselves?
“Personally, I’m concerned that the government of Lagos State is doing so much to abort the strike action, in the same fashion that it succeeded in dividing the NBA into executive sessions in State House Marina, instead of mass action.
“This is totally unacceptable, for Lagos State JUSUN. It is either you are on strike or you are not.”

Iheuwa, however, slammed Renee in a series of posts, while accusing the car dealer of attacking her children.
“I’m the one to fight any woman because of a man. I have never done it before and will not start it now. I’m doing this because my name is being told in lies and my children are being attacked,” she replied in one of the posts.
Amid the subsequent drama, Franklin called on the public to respect his relationship and avoid any negative discourse about the parties involved.
 “A man’s heart should never be caged and the ability to Love shouldn’t be a question of ridicule I have loving children and great mothers, with whom I share co-parenting responsibilities with either financially or physically (my kids being in my care physically)where possible,” he wrote on Twitter.

The comedienne had accused Edochie and Prophet Odumeje of conniving with others to stage miracles.
Rita Edochie initially refused to forgive Ada Jesus until she brings evidence of her allegation but later did after many pleaded on her behalf.

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, has insisted that no team has left the European Super League yet.
In an interview with El Larguero, Perez made it clear that anyone who thinks the project is dead is “completely wrong”.
Perez, who is also the president of the Super League, was speaking 24 hours after the controversial breakaway project collapsed.
According to him, the 12 founding members have not left yet as they all signed a legally “binding contract”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has described members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as ‘cultists’.
The PDP Chairman in Ogun State, Hon. Sikirulahi Ogundele said this while addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday.
According to Ogundele, the PDP remained the only political party in Nigeria, stressing that that was why many members of the APC were willing to join the party.
“Many people want to join the APC. Those who have defected to the APC are ready to come back. They have told us. We know what they are facing there. In fact, the real APC members are ready to decamp. This is because they know we are the only ones running a political party.”

“What they do in APC is cult. They operate a cult group in APC. If you don’t belong, you cannot belong. They are running a cult group there. That’s why they have given democracy another definition – ‘Government of a few set of people for a few set of people’. It was earlier reported that the factions in the party on Wednesday put their differences behind, while agreeing to work together for a successful outing in 2023.

The United Kingdom has said that all asylum and human rights claims from Nigerian nationals are considered on their individual merits in accordance with its international obligations.
The British government states that it has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it, in accordance with its international obligations under the Refugee Convention and European Convention on Human Rights.
The British High Commission stated this on Wednesday, in response to inquiries by The Punch on the Federal Government’s allegations that the UK’s asylum offer for persecuted members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra undermined Nigeria’s security.
The UK Visas and Immigration had released new guidelines to its decision makers on how to consider and grant asylum applications to IPOB members whose founder, Nnamdi Kanu, is operating from London.

Kanu, who holds both Nigerian and British passports, fled Nigeria in 2018 after troops invaded his country home while he was facing trial on treasonable felony charges for criminal conspiracy, intimidation and membership of an illegal organisation.
In the guidelines titled, ‘Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups,’ released in March, the UKVI, a division of the Home Office, directed its decision makers to consider if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution.’’
It further said the UK must also consider if the arrest and prosecution of IPOB members for clamouring for the break-up of the country were acts of prosecution, not persecution.
“Those fleeing prosecution or punishment for a criminal offence are not normally refugees. Prosecution may, however, amount to persecution if it involves victimisation in its application by the authorities,’’ the 56-page document noted.
But the Federal Government frowned on the UK immigration guidelines, describing them as support for terrorism.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who said that the decision was disrespectful, noted that it amounted to sabotaging the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security.
The enquiry was sent to the high commission stated, “Following the release of the Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups, in March by the UKVI, the Nigerian Government has declared this as an act of sabotage. It also accused the UK of supporting terrorism. What’s the reaction of the high commission to these weighty allegations?”
Responding to the allegations by the Federal Government, the British High Commission in an apparent rebuff, said the UK had a proud history of providing protection to those who needed it.
The emailed statement read,” The UK has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it, in accordance with our international obligations under the Refugee Convention and European Convention on Human Rights.
“Our country policy and information notes are published on the gov.uk website. They are kept under constant review and updated periodically – an update to the Biafra separatist note is expected shortly. We publish them since our decisions can be appealed in the immigration courts, which are public, so it is clearer and fairer for all involved (applicants, their lawyers, judges, stakeholders such as the UNHCR) to know what our position and evidence base is.
“All asylum and human rights claims from Nigerian nationals are carefully considered on their individual merits in accordance with our international obligations.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of severally attempting to buy over its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful said the Federal Government tried to make Kanu abandon the agitation for Biafra.
Powerful claimed that the Federal Government made some “irresistible offers” but was turned down by Kanu.
The IPOB’s spokesman was responding to a claim by Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu that agitators in the South-East would be crushed.

According to the statement: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great and indomitable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn over the ranting, derogatory, irresponsible and highly provocative remarks by the Presidency through Garba Shehu that the renewed agitation for self determination in the South East was because the federal government had refused to share money to those behind the agitation. Shehu went further in his vituperations and threatened military action to crush those he referred to as “the animals disturbing the peace of South East.’
“We therefore, challenge Shehu to mention those the federal government has been paying in the South East to drop the agitation for self determination. If he fails to disclose the identifies of the beneficiaries and evidence of such payments, we will take it to be one of the shameless lies which have become the trademark of the Muhamnadu Buhari-led Fulani-controlled federal government.
“Without speaking for other proponents of self determination, we know that the federal government of Nigeria has been making frantic but fruitless efforts to induce the leadership of IPOB with money to possibly drop the quest for Biafran restoration.
“Federal Government has severally but without success, attempted to buy over our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, making him some irresistible offers. But if there were any Efulefus parading self as Igbo leader that acepted their offer, we can assure them that such Efulefus cannot peneterate IPOB. IPOB is not, has never been, and will never be interested in the crumbs from federal government of Nigeria.
“We also wish to remind the Fulani Presidency that only a certified and unconscionable moron will ever equate money to the motive behind the growing agitation for self determination across Nigeria. If money is what we want, we know what to do to get more money. How many times in the past did our leader reject your financial inducements?

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the controversy surrounding Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Planning.
Kanu insisted that Pantami is not a repentant terrorist.
Pantami was recently linked to terrorists’ organisations like Al-Qaeda and Taliban.
This followed the resurgence of an audio recording of his past teachings where he supported the terrorists organisations.

Since the audio was made public, Nigerians have been calling for his sack, over his past comments on Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits armed with deadly weapons have stormed Kangon Farun Mana and Yardoka villages in Magami district of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing over 40 people, mostly members of the outlawed Yansakai groups.
According to one Aminu Magami, an eyewitness, who spoke to newsmen, the dreaded gunmen stormed the communities at the early hours of Wednesday and started unleashing terror on the villagers.
Magami explained that most of the people who were killed were members of the outlawed Yansakai group who attempted to repel the attack by the bandits.
“One of those killed by the bandits was a close friend of mine; we had discussion few hours before he was killed,” the source added.

In another development, another set of bandits also seized Bayan Banki, Gobirawa and Biyabiki communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of the State where they killed one person in Gobirawa village and left two others wounded at Bayan Banki.
According to the source, those killed and wounded were initially being targeted and penciled by the bandits, saying that they were members of the outlawed Yansakai groups that have been disturbing the bandits from free operation in the area.
It was gathered that the incident occured less than 24 hours after members of the outlawed Yansakai groups at Gidan Zuma repelled another attack by some suspected bandits and killed two of their members on Monday.
Another eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent said earlier before the Monday’s encounter, the bandits had attempted to cease the same Gidan Zuma but they were resisted by the members of the outlawed Yansakai during which the bandits lost five of their members.
When contacted, the State Police Command said it actually received a distress call when the the attack was on in Magami but could not respond and repel the attack due to lack of good roads in the area.
According to the command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, the location where the incident occurred does not have cellular network coverage making communication very difficult to the police operative for quick response.
He added that “PMF 19 Contingent attached to Puff Adder ll that are based in Magami responded to the locations on foot with a view to preventing further attacks on the neighbouring communities and their response is being awaited to ascertain the level of damage done by the assailants”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested the former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.
Yari was arrested for alleged illegal financial dealings and misappropriation of funds, Guardian reports.
The former governor is being detained at the Sokoto office of the Commission.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirming the arrest said Yari was interrogated for about seven hours before he was detained in Sokoto.

Some of the alleged financial infractions against Yari include the sum of $56,056.75 reportedly lodged in his account with Polaris Bank; N12.9m, N11.2m, $303m, N217,388.04 and $311.8m said to be kept in different accounts in the name of Yari and his companies.

Embattled Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on Wednesday, attended the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari.
This is despite the overwhelming call for the resignation or sacking of the minister over his past controversial comments on terrorist groups including Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
Pantami virtually attended the FEC meeting which holds at Aso Villa in Abuja.
The FEC meeting is the first to be presided over by the President after his 15-day medical trip to London, United Kingdom.

The Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy, which tweeted via @FMoCDENigeria, wrote, “The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, @DrIsaPantami participates in the 42nd virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting presided over by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The ministry also shared photos of the virtual meeting showing Pantami, Buhari and other members of the the President’s cabinet.
Pantami, who has been hugely criticised over his pro-Taliban comments, had renounced his radical pro-terrorists comments, saying he now knows better but Nigerians have been unsparing and relentless in the call for the sacking or resignation of the minister.
Opposition Peoples Democratic Party had also called on the President to fire Pantami if he fails to voluntarily resign like ex-finance minister, Kemi Adeosun. The PDP had also asked the Department of State Services to probe the communications minister.
It was earlier reported that the Nigerian Twitter community also said Pantami could not be trusted with the data of Nigerians, especially with the ongoing National Identification Number and Subscriber Identity Module integration exercise under his watch.
The hashtag, #PantamiResignNow, has since been trending online for days but the minister has not resigned and he has not been sacked by the President.

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has described the news of the sudden death of Marshal Idriss Déby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad as a sad one.
Ramaphosa, on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, in a statement released on Wednesday extended his deepest condolences to the fallen President’s family as well as the government and people of Chad.
The President also expressed concerns of the South African government at developments in the Republic of Chad involving armed groups.

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has confirmed the death of a student of the school who committed suicide by ingesting sniper, a popular anti-insecticide.
In a message to newsmen earlier, the Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju stated that the school has confirmed the incident and that the Management was doing everything to handle the situation.
He advised students to take it easy while on campus and not to see little setbacks in academic work as failure but an opportunity to achieve success again.
It was gathered from sources that two students of the school ingested sniper which resulted in the instant death of one of them.

The source, a student of Awo Hall, Ekundayo Adeniran stated that, “On Tuesday 20th of April, 2021, Adedeji Emmanuel, a 200 level student of the Department of Management and Accounting drank the deadly poison, sniper and was found dead behind one of the school’s lecture halls.
He noted that the reason behind his decision was unknown but was not unconnected to academic pressure.
Also, one of his course mates revealed that prior to his death, “Emmanuel took his friend out. So, he showed no sign of depression or sadness.”
Our correspondent could not ascertain the identity of the other student but obtained information that he is in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC).
Meanwhile, Nigerians from different walks of life have started to react to the news.
Orifunke Lawal, an entrepreneur and educationist observed that having two students committing suicide under 24 hours in the Obafemi Awolowo University was not a good indication.
While noting that the situation in the university was horrible and that students were overworked and overwhelmed, she wondered what the school management was doing about the situation.
Dr. Supo Awojide was of the opinion that Nigerian universities needed to improve the university experience for students, adding that stories of several students taking their own lives suggest that something urgent needed to be done.
He listed pastoral care, academic mentoring and student support services as areas where interventions can be sought.
Toyib Adewale Adelodun canvassed for more support for students through paying of attention to mental health as well.
According to him, “schools in the UK do surveys to check with the students if they are enjoying the learning experience. I want Nigerian universities to do more to make students feel at home.”
Gracious Adesola, a student noted that, “Nigeria University system isn’t students friendly. From lecturers wickedness to too much work load and outdated lectures. More needs to be done. Being at the mercy of lecturers is something so bad and unpalatable.”
For Mrs. Oqua, a university lecturer, being a staff made her to understand student’s plight.
She revealed that lecturers take out their frustrations on the students and wondered what someone without human compassion was doing in a university environment.
Agboola Ayomide, a medical student feels the issue of students’ mental health has been overlooked.
He hinted that, “The system believes since it has been done this way in the past, it is okay to carry on with this method of rushing students, pushing students to the point of breaking with no system for mental health counseling.”
An Economist, Olajide stressed that majority of the lecturers and method of lecturing and materials used were obsolete.
He added that the obsolete nature of the teaching system is the reason most of them could not cope with online classes and modern ways of teaching and impacting knowledge on students.
Mujidat, a student who put the blame on parents, explained that most parents usually make their children to commit suicide by their aggression when their children failed any examination.
She wanted parents to learn to accept failure from their children as all they needed was an assurance that they can succeed at the next trial.
She called on parents to stop comparing their children’s abilities.
Many of the students, however, have called on their mates not to think of committing suicide.
They advised students passing through pressure on campus to talk to somebody and always visit the school counselling unit or call on their course advisers.
“Talking to friends, calling of siblings and parents is also an option open on the table”, they added.
