The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has appealed to those calling for the secession of Nigeria to shelve the idea.
The monarch warned that those beating the drum of war in Nigeria are not only calling for chaos in the country but in Africa at large.
Oba Gbadebo spoke when he played host to the National President of the National Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Musa Maitakobi, the Chairman of RTEAN in Ogun state, Titilayo Akibu, and other members of the association in his palace in Ake, Abeokuta.
The visit was part of activities marking the one year anniversary of Akibu as the state chairman of RTEAN in Ogun state.

Alake’s statement was against the declaration of Yoruba nation and South-West secession from Nigeria by a Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho.
The monarch said Nigeria cannot afford to go through another civil war, stressing that no country in the world will be willing to have over 250 million Nigerians as refugees.
The monarch said Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe, political or religious afflictions, must work together for the greater good of the country. 
Alake said if Nigeria fails as a country, the entire black race has failed, insisting that Nigeria is better as one united nation than breaking up.
He said, “Nigerians, wherever we go in Nigeria we must see ourselves as nationals of the same country, people of the same blood.
“We must work together to make Nigeria great because we must not fail, Nigeria must not fail, if Nigeria fails, the black race has failed and may it never happened.
“Where will over 250 million people go to? If they enter the next country, we will eat all their foods within two days, there will be no food for anybody in that place again that is why we must remain where we are and make Nigeria work and work well.”
Alake, however, commended the national president of RTEAN for revolutionalising the nation’s road transport sector.
Maitakobi had earlier commissioned a multimillion naira mosque, built on the premises of RTEAN secretariat in Abeokuta by the Akibu- led administration.
Earlier in his address, Maitakobi said the association has concluded plans to inject new buses into the nation’s road transport sector, to aid easy movement of passengers from one point to another.
Maitakobi awarded Oba Adedotun as the grand patron of the association in recognition of the monarch’s support for RTEAN.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State Chapter, has condemned in strong terms the rising spate of insecurity in the state.
The party noted that it is no longer news that the state has become the hotbed of Kidnappings, armed banditry and other social vices in the country today.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Abraham Alberah Catoh, in a statement, explained, “The recent abduction of 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna by bandits (kidnappers), the foiled Government Science Secondary School, Ikara attack and that of aviation staff quarters, the kidnap of 3 teachers from government Primary School in Rema Village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, the attack on the convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari and so many unreported incidences in some suburbs, as well as villages within the state are not only alarming but frightening.”
The party added that the current level of insecurity in the state where people find it difficult to sleep and a situation where parents are scared of sending their children to school, economic and social activities threatened and hampered is appalling and unprecedented.

According to the statement, “the party is worried by the situation wherein criminals have freely turned the kidnapping of innocent school students and other vulnerable citizens for ransom, into a lucrative business following the lacklustre approach and media propaganda under the El-Rufai’s administration in the fight against banditry/terrorism in our dear state.”
The party observed, “This and many more, indicates the failure of governance under the APC-led administration in the state and validates concerns that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its administration is bereft of solutions to fight and nip in the bud the spate of insecurity under their watch.”
It challenged Governor Nasir El-Rrufai to wake up to his responsibilities of securing lives and property of the citizens of the State, by dealing decisively with the criminals.
The party said, it therefore, demand the immediate rescue of the Afaka 39 and all other kidnapped victims alive from the hands of their abductors.
“Regrettably, our party weeps over the unfortunate situation that our state is being plunged into crises caused by ineffective security command structure and strategy,” the statement lamented.
The party sympathised with the families of the victims of these dastardly acts.

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has insisted that his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari, have failed to deliver all the campaign promises to Nigerians.
Fayemi said APC leaders should take responsibility for the failure to deliver on their campaign promises, insisting that some of the country’s issues were on ground before Buhari’s government.
He pointed out that the party failed to deliver on its promises made to Nigerians in the areas of security, anti-corruption, and economic growth.
Featuring on Channels Television yesterday, Fayemi said: “I’m not going to shy away from the expectations people had before we came to office. I was a leading player in the campaign that brought my principal ( Buhari) to power.

“We promised Nigerians quite a number of things, particularly centering on security, anti-corruption, and on economic growth. Have we been able to attain all of what we promised? Obviously not.”
Nigeria has been experiencing serious security challenges with the resurgence of banditry and kidnapping, especially in the Northern part of the country.
Amid the security challenges, Nigeria had slipped into recession twice in the last six years under Buhari’s administration.

Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, says the emergence of Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick as a member of the FIFA Council makes no difference for Nigeria.
Oliseh gave the explanation during an interview session with Punch.
According to him, Pinnick’s emergency is a good achievement for the NFF president, not Nigeria.
This is contrary to the earlier position of the NFF’s General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed, who told NAN in an interview that “The victory of Pinnick is not only for him but for Nigeria and all Nigerians. With this also, Nigeria will have an edge over those countries that do not have representation.”
<a name='more' id="more"></a>Pinnick was last Friday in Rabat, Morocco, elected into the FIFA Council which is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football.
Reacting to a question on his expectation from the NFF boss over his emergence as a member of FIFA Council, Oliseh noted that FIFA has a structure that protects the interest of every country.
He said, “As an individual, I think it is great for President Amaju Pinnick that he has gotten that vote into the council. I think it is very good for him. But as a nation – Nigeria, it does not make any difference. I am a member of the FIFA Technical Committee for eight years.
“We as a technical committee propose changes from the technical side of how football should be developed. But at the end of the day, everything proposed has to be sanctioned by the executive group. We only propose. This council has so many people in it. They vote and talk about an issue, but at the end of the day, the executive committee decides.
“It is good for Pinnick, no doubt, I am happy for him, but for Nigeria, it doesn’t make any difference.
“For instance, I was on the technical committee for years. I was there when we played the Olympics in 2016, World Cup in 2014, but at the end of the day, did Nigeria get to the final? No.
“Look at it from another perspective, Sepp Blatter was the FIFA president for over 20 years, how many times did Switzerland qualify for the World Cup?”
FIFA Council is a combination of 37 men selected from across the world charged with the responsibility of FIFA governance in terms of structure, decision, policy formulation, and making sure that the policies are well implemented.
Pinnick, who is also a Member of the Organizing Committee for FIFA Competitions, swept aside incumbent Walter Nyamilandu by 43 votes to 8 at the elections held in Rabat, and is now only the third Nigerian to take a seat on world football’s highest decision-making organ after Orok Oyo and Dr Amos Adamu.

Some gunmen numbering about seven have invaded another farm in Oyo State.
It was gathered on Friday that a farm customer, an indigene of Benue State from Igede tribe was killed during the invasion of the farm located at Fiditi, one of the towns in Afijio Local Government Area of the State.
Our correspondent gathered from sources that the farm customer was shot dead when the gunmen stormed the farm on Wednesday.
During the invasion, a security guard in the farm identified as Felix, an indigene of Plateau State was abducted. The security guard later escaped in the early hours of Thursday.

It was gathered that the gunmen arrived at the farm at the time the workers were closing for the day with five of them armed with AK-47 rifles and other guns.
It was learnt that they searched for victims to kidnap, with one of them targeting the farm manager, Mr Adelakun Sunday, at the time he was about leaving his office.
This made the manager to quickly retreat to his office, locked the door, ran to his toilet and climbed up the ceiling to hide.
It was further gathered that the manager and others discovered the dead body of the farm customer during a search around the farm.
The deceased, who was said to have come to the farm on his Bajaj motorcycle, had bought two dead chickens, which he had put in a sack, before he met his death.
Three expended shells of AK-47 rifle bullets and one empty cartridge shell were found at the scene.
Recall that the attack on the farm is coming a few weeks after some gunmen abducted son of a farm owner in Apete area of Ibadan.
The son of the farm owner, Mr Odetunde was released after spending a few days in the kidnappers’ den.
Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the latest attack on the farm to journalists on Friday.
Fadeyi attributed the escape of the victim to pressure put on the abductors by the police through continuous search for the criminals who tried to hide to evade arrest.
He confirmed that the body of the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary at the State Hospital, Oyo, for autopsy.
Fadeyi added that investigation had commenced into the incident.

Apostle Paul Okikijesu of the Christ Apostolic Miracle Ministry, has asked Nigerians to pray God to forgive Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, because, according to him, the VP has allegedly committed many sins.
He also said that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, may lose the control of Lagos State because people are investigating and seeking his downfall.
“Thus says the Lord, People should pray for Osinbajo, because he has committed many mistakes and sins that are not hidden from I the Lord.,” he said in a series of prophecies he forwarded to Daily Post on Saturday.
He went on to claim that some people of Yoruba dissent, who he described as saboteurs, connived with some individuals from the North to impeach the Vice President in order destroy his political career.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Some Yoruba saboteurs who connived with Hausa because of their selfish interests and corrupt attitudes, intend to impeach Osinbajo in order to ruin his political career.”
Okikijesu said that God’s judgement will come upon former Presidents and Governors who are causing chaos in the country as from April 2021:
“Those who put Nigeria in pitch darkness will be punished and disgraced, says the Lord God of hosts,” he warned.
“Thus says the Lord: Bola Tinubu may lose the control of Lagos. People are investigating and seeking the downfall of Tinubu.
“Thus says the Lord: People are currently investigating him, and they are seeking his downfall. The people that are jointly controlling the government together said, ‘Instead of him to climb the ladder, we will pull him down from the ladder.”

Ever since singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, was announced as the winner of the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category of the Grammy Awards 2021, the ‘Twice as tall’ singer has been lavished with praises from his fans and other Nigerians.
Commending the singer in an interview, popular actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo opined that Burna Boy’s Grammy win would make people take their work a lot more seriously. He said, “It is going to make everyone stand up and take their work a lot more seriously. Once the international light shines on all of us, it would make people sit up and dream better like there are no limitations. When one sees one’s countryman or someone one feels one is in the same mold and category with win an award, it would make one feel like one can also do it.”
RMD also added that Burna had broken the glass ceiling. He said, “Burna Boy has broken the glass ceiling (with) his consistency and protest music. You don’t have to whine your waist from morning till night anymore to get attention. You can actually continue from where Fela stopped .For Burna and Wizkid, it is such a beautiful time to be a Nigerian musician. Don’t forget that streaming has already democratised the space.”

Asked if Burna Boy’s win would have a spillover effect on Nollywood, the veteran actor said, “The Grammy won by not just someone who plays to entertain, but someone who plays to educate is going to blow the whole place wide open. Don’t forget that Nigerian music as we have it today has evolved and leveraged on Nollywood when our films were being exported. It took with it, its comedy and music. The music has just taken on a life of its own because it does not require a big village that it takes a film to get ready. Music is a lot quicker. Solo work is what is needed, unlike trying to gather an entire ‘village’ to make a film.”

Popular actress, Biodun Okeowo has warned fans to stop comparing her daughter with that of her colleagues in any way.
The curvy actress cautioned one of her followers on Instagram, who commented on her post.
The follower had said that other celebrities do not train their kids in the right way, thereby allowing them to expose their bodies.
“I’m super proud of you, thanks for rightfully training her, not exposing her body like other celebrities’ daughters do. It’s a sign of giving her good home training. You will surely reap the fruit of your labor on her in Jesus name” the Instagram follower wrote.

The FCT police command has begun a search for Anthonia Uchenna, a nanny who alleged her former boss and ex-Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode s3xually harassed her.
Others who are being hunted are: Emmanuel Anakan (former dog handler), Osakwe Azubuike (former carpenter), Oko Emmanuel (former cook), Daniel Gona (former driver), and Agbolo Edah (former cook), who accused the ex-minister of assault, the Punch reports.
According to reports, the police have arrested Jonathan Gaiya, a former driver.
The police also invited the reporter who interviewed Fani-Kayode’s ex-workers.

When contacted on the telephone, the Head, Legal Department at the FCT SCID, James Idachaba, said it was only an investigation and those accused would be charged to court if the Force established a prima facie case against them.
When asked if it was the job of the police to probe libel, Idachaba said, “I am a lawyer of over 20 years. I don’t investigate libel cases. 
“The petition sent to the CP and forwarded to me is that of criminal defamation. That is what I am investigating including fabrication of false statement.
“We don’t do that (force people to recant statements) in our office. He (driver) was brought to my office and it was recorded. We are conducting investigation and if we see there is a prima facie case, we charge to court.”
Recall that about eight of Fani-Kayode’s ex- domestic staff had recently visited the Punch office in Abuja where they took turns to level allegations of assault and s3xual harassment against the former minister. The former domestic workers  had also stated the allegations in sworn affidavits.

Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Mando Chapter in Kaduna, Ibrahim Danborno, has cautioned drivers against embarking on night journeys to avoid falling victims of kidnappers.
Danborno gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Kaduna.
He noted that although security agents were doing their best, drivers especially those who operate commercial fleets should avoid traveling at night, so as not to endanger their lives of passengers. 
“Transport unions across the country should continue to sensitise their members on the dangers of night journey.

“Much as kidnappings still occur even during the day, chances of its occurrence are higher at night,” he said.
The official said for now, articulated vehicles prefer to travel at night for convenience, but advised drivers of other vehicles to stay off the road at night for their security and safety.
He also cautioned drivers against taking passengers outside motor parks, “as such practice is very risky because you don’t know who you are carrying.”
“We had several instances where kidnappers connived with persons who hide under the guise of being passengers along the road to abduct people.
“Drivers should ensure their passengers fill the passenger manifest before they take off from their respective parks,” he added.
Danborno assured security agents of the cooperation of the association to curb incidences of kidnapping in Kaduna State.

Bayern Munich have confirmed Robert Lewandowski will not join up with the Poland national team, for their game against England on March 31.
With COVID-19 still raging across Europe, Bundesliga players would be forced to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival back in Germany from a “mutation zone,” country.
Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, says Lewandowski cannot travel to the UK due to these quarantine measures.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed the recovery and discharge of 538 COVID-19 patients managed in Lagos, FCT and Kwara states.
The health agency made this known on Friday night via a report on its official website.
NCDC also confirmed 130 new cases in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This brings the total number of recorded cases in the country so far to 161,539 with 2,027 deaths while about 147,581 patients have been discharged after testing negative twice for the virus.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, at the weekend tasked Nigerian youths to forget about government jobs which according to him, add no profit to their destiny.
Umahi made this known while addressing the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, during the 65th emergency senate meeting that took place at the Christian Ecumenical centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
He, however, called on the youths to shun all forms of cultism in their various institutions, adding that the development and future of Nigeria is in their hands.
The governor further blamed the increasing rate of kidnapping, armed robbery, bandits, cultism and killings in Nigeria on youths’ quest for quick wealth.

He equally tasked the youths to resist being used by politicians to destroy the future and image of the leaders in the country.
According to him: “Which qualified leader in Nigeria will the youths follow? I say to our youths, you have followed so much, and it is time to take the future in your hands. Your leaders (NANS) are qualified leaders. We expect our children to be more than us.
“If you do not prepare a future for your children, your children will suffer more than you. You are struggling and if you don’t take time, your generation will not take over leadership and you will become old.
“If we do not take care of you, how will you take care of us? And I believe in you (Youths).
“We say there are no jobs, but it is not true. You are waiting for government jobs, but it doesn’t work. It makes you lazy and you grow old. What the government should do is to create the environment. It is only a few people that are employable.
“Put yourselves together to produce the future leaders of this country. If you are hired to destroy people, you are rather bringing curses upon yourselves. Success has a pattern, likewise failure. Resist to be hired to destroy others, for he who will destroy to succeed will surely get destruction waiting upon him.
“Without the youths there will be no kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism. Let me tell you, those doing cultism in schools are those who are weak. These weak people come together to kill and to protect their weakness.
“You cannot see any intelligent young man or woman going into cultism. When you partake in killings, killing will flow in your generations,” he said.

An 80-year-old chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Igangan, simply identified as Pa Olawuwo, has been arraigned in court over the killing of Dr Fatai Aborode.
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that Olawuwo was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department Iyaganku in Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, told our correspondent on Friday that the suspect had been arraigned and the court remanded him in police custody.
He said this in terse reply to an inquiry sent to him by our correspondent.

The PPRO said, “Yes, he has been charged to court and remanded in Police custody.”
Sources told our correspondent that the octogenarian politician and Aborode were from the same constituency and some of his followers who went to where he was detained were not allowed to see him.

Troops of Sector 3 Operation HADARIN DAJI of the Nigerian Army have neutralised scores of bandits when they stormed Kabasa Village in Magami Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Tuesday.
The operation which was carried out following a tip-off forestalled a kidnap and plundering operation by the bandits which was underway.
Unfortunately, one soldier lost his life while three others suffered varying degrees of injuries in the shoot out with the bandits.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima.

The statement read, “Following a credible tip-off, Troops of Sector 3 Operation HADARIN DAJI on Tuesday stormed Kabasa village in Magami Local Government of Zamfara State where armed bandits were attacking locals.
“The timely arrival of troops forestalled a deadly kidnap and plundering operations by armed bandits which were underway. They were swiftly engaged by troops who successfully neutralized scores while others escaped into the forest with bullet wounds.
“Unfortunately, one soldier paid the supreme sacrifice and three others who sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter are currently receiving medical treatment.
“Troops have dominated the general area with aggressive patrols and have continued further exploitation and pursuit of the bandits into the forest.
“Similarly, on the same day, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI responded to a distress call that armed bandits were attacking Gidan Goga village in Maradun LGA of Zamfara state. Troops swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the bandits with superior firepower, killing 3 while others fled in disarray, some with gunshot wounds”
Yerima said in another development, troops rescued two female kidnap victims who were abducted 22 days ago from Kuyallo Village in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State.

Oyo State Police command has arrested an 80-year-old chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Igangan, simply identified as Pa Olawuwo, over the killing of Dr Fatai Aborode.
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that Olawuwo was arrested and taken the State Criminal Investigation Department Iyaganku in Ibadan.
Sources told our correspondent that the octogenarian politician and Aborode were from the same constituency and some of his followers who went to where he was detained were not allowed to see him.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, did not pick the call from our correspondent. He had also yet to reply the text message sent to him on the matter.

Aborode, a farmer, who was the House of Representatives candidate of the platform of the Social Democratic Party in 2015, was killed by gunmen on December 11, 2020, while returning home from his farm.
The killing among other issues eventually led to the quit notice given to Seriki Fulani in Igangan, Salihu Abdukadir whose properties were razed by some Ibarapa youths.
Governor Seyi Makinde, had February 20 expressed dissatisfaction with the way the police were handling investigation into the case.
The governor said the father of Aborode told him that his son’s death had political undertone when he visited the bereaved family during his visit to Igangan.
Makinde had said during a radio programme, “Oyo State is not a jungle, we must find a way to get to the root of the matter (Aborode’s killing). I went to Ibarapa and I slept over to know what the situation was. I went to Dr Aborode’s biological father and some of the things we found out were that the death was also caused by failure of intelligence.
“Everybody said Fulani killed Dr Aborode but when I went to his father, he said what happened had political undertone.”

The Coalition of Oduduwa Descendants (COD) has called for the immediate resignation of the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, for allegedly failing the Nigerian people.
The development followed the recent allegation by the NSA that some funds meant to buy arms under the leadership of ex-service chiefs were missing.
Monguno made the claim in an interview with BBC Hausa, though he later said he was misquoted.
However, COD said Monguno’s claim was a clear attempt to soil the hard-earned reputation of the immediate past service chiefs and patriotic men who diligently served the nation.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday, Comrade Lawson Adeshina, the National Secretary, COD, demanded the resignation or sack of Monguno so he could be investigated.
According to Adeshina, “What we saw, however, was a Monguno, who was trying to soil the hard-earned reputation of men who diligently served the nation, the immediate past service chiefs.
“With the benefit of hindsight, we now believe that these men could have done even better than they did if Monguno didn’t abuse his office to deny Nigeria the opportunities to buy weapons.
“He made it impossible for the military and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to buy the equipment that was desperately needed to fight crime and secure Nigeria against terrorists.
“One can thus now categorically say that the problem of inadequate equipment to fight terrorism is responsible for the scenario where terrorists, bandits and kidnappers have become bold and are now holding Nigeria by the jugular; this was caused and aggravated by Monguno.
“This is the highest travesty possible: the man who should deploy his expertise for making Nigeria secure as National Security Adviser preferred to abuse his office to make the country ungovernable and into a veritable killing field.
“It’s unthinkable that an appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari, who promised Nigerians improved security, could’ve jeopardized the military and the police force of the country with such impunity. Monguno has simply demonstrated that he has no sense of loyalty to either the country or his Commander-in-Chief. This’s an untenable position.
“We additionally demand that Monguno, upon his sack, must be further investigated.”

Popular rapper, Panshak Zamani a.k.a Ice Prince  has averred that he will fail if he is put in an office setting, adding that music was the only thing he could do after dropping out of the university at an early age.
The acclaimed rapper made this known when he featured on ‘Afrobeats Intelligence.‘
Ice Prince said he was not opportune to pursue a professional career in other fields.
“Man, it feels very great. It feels very awesome. ‘Cause if you know me very well, you’d know that music is the only thing that Ice knows how to do. I don’t know how to do anything else, you know. I dropped out of the university at a very early stage, so I didn’t get any chance to study anything,” he said.

“If they put me in any office now, my nigga, I’d flop. But music is the only thing I know how to do. So, the opportunity to be able to put out music and even have people listening to me after how long I’ve been in the game, it’s awesome. It’s a blessing. More than a blessing.”
The ‘Superstar ’ crooner also opened up on how he has learned to accept whatever happens to him since he lost his parents. 
“Whatever comes. I lost my dad, God kept me here. I lost my mum, God kept me here so I just feel like It’s all God’s plan my brother. As e be, e be,” he added in a mixture of English and Pidgin.
Speaking further, the music star  said himself, Jesse Jagz and M.I locked themselves  up for three months for the production of ‘Everybody Loves Ice Prince’, his debut album, in 2011.
“Literally, me and Jesse Jagz booked ourselves into an apartment that year and stayed in that apartment for about three months. And we locked ourselves in there. Day in, day out and we made that album. We were locked in there for three months, and me and Jesse literally just vibed and made that album. Hearing it as a classic, I just give God all the glory,” he said.

Tottenham Hotspur captain, Hugo Lloris, has slammed his Jose Mourinho’s men for lacking the basic and fundamental attitude following their shock 3-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League round of 16 second-leg tie on Thursday night.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits, yesterday opened fire at Yartashar Sahabi Market, under Dansadau Emirate in Maru Local Government area of Zamfara State, killing one person, injured many, and set the market ablaze.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the bandits stormed the market square, began shooting sporadically on air.
He explained that during the attack, many people were injured while trying to escape from the bandits.
According to him, some residents locked themselves inside their houses, while the bandits went away with food items worth millions of naira belonging to the traders, after which they set the market ablaze.

“The bandits after looting some food items set almost all the stalls of the market, including some provisions belonging to traders on fire and ran to the bush as they sighted the Mobile Police attached to Operation Puff Adder,” the source hinted.
It was reported that Governor Matawalle had last year initiated reconciliation process with bandit groups, but some bandits are yet to embrace the peace and reconciliation initiative.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, SP. Muhammad Shehu proved abortive as his telephone line was switched off.

Former Senator who represented the Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, Dino Melaye, has mimicked the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government over alleged bad governance.
The former senator, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Thursday, alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration was full of corruption, nepotism and maladministration.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said he has no political godfather and that he got to the position of governor through the help of God.
Makinde who spoke at the Pan Yoruba Congress held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, said he’s ready to leave the position if the people of the state ask him to do so.
According to him, he’s not bothered about the position but the welfare, development and growth of Oyo State and Yorubaland in general.

“So, I am not bothered about the position but bothered about the welfare, development and growth of Oyo State and Yorubaland in general,” Makinde said.
Speaking further, he said, “Let me tell you here today. I don’t have a political father. It was God who made me governor and not human being. I fear only God and not any human. No matter how powerful a man is, I cannot fear him.
“I contested election in 2007, 2011 and 2015 but failed and when it is time for God to make me a governor, he made me.
“If the people of the state decided that they don’t want me again, I will only take my bag and leave because I don’t have a pin in the office.”

An 80 year-old retired lecturer, Prof. Muritala Haroon, on Thursday told a Customary Court sitting in Mapo, that his wife, Afsat, still denies him s3x.
At the resumed hearing in the suit, Haroon said:”my wife did not abide by the advice given to her by this court to allow peace to reign by agreeing to perform her wifely duties’.
However, Afsat was conspicuously absent when she was called and nobody represented her in court.
The President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, cautioned Haroon to exercise more patience.

”The court will work with the extended members of the family to resolve the matter amicably,” he said.
Odunade adjourned the case until May 17 for further hearing.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Haroon in February, filed for dissolution of his 52-ear-old marriage on grounds of s3xual starvation and threat to life.
In the petition, he alleged that Afsat was fond of locking him out of the bedroom.
”I can no longer cope with the attitude again. Worst still, she and her relatives want me dead.
”Afsat attempted to stab me. She is misleading our six children. She has turned them against me,” he said.
Afsat had in her reply, rejected the prayer for separation.
”Prof is promiscuous. I can not have anything to do with because he slept with his close friend’s three wives.
“My lord, Haroon slept with the three wives of the man who acted as an intermediary whenever we had problems,” she said.

The Christian community in Ilorin has vowed to continue their protest against the use of hijab by Muslim girls in the ten mission schools closed down by the State government.
A credible source within the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, who preferred not to be named, informed newsmen in Ilorin on Thursday, that the body will continue the action until the demands presented to the State government are realised.
“Following a meeting held by CAN, with church leaders and proprietors of the affected grant aided mission schools, held on Wednesday evening at St Barnabas church in Ilorin, to review position vis-a-vis the happenings, their resolve was to continue occupation of the ten schools today, Thursday to resist the enforcement of the use of hijab,” the source disclosed.
Recall that a bloody clash erupted on Wednesday at the Surulere Baptist School in Ilorin, as the ten mission schools closed down by the state government over hijab controversy, were directed to resume classes.

Christian faithful and staff of the school stopped Muslim girls in hijab dress code from entering the school leading to a violent clash between Muslims and Christians.
Several people were injured in the clash with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, appealing for peace and harmony among the actors involved in the matter.
He also cautioned against any religious crisis of any kind in the State.
However, the Christian community has vowed to protect their property and ensure that the mission schools were returned to their original owners, while resisting the use of hijab in their schools.
The state government, has also vowed that the hijab issue has come to stay in accordance with the dictates of the Nigerian constitution and state laws.
A statement by the Secretary to the state government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, said while reacting to Wednesday’s development that “the state government took control of the schools in 1974 and has managed their affairs, which include funding and staffing.”
He declared that arguments that the schools still belong to either Muslim or Christian missionaries have been flatly rejected in court.
The statement was titled ‘Correcting misconceptions about missionary schools and hijab in Kwara state’.
The take over of the schools, Professor Jibril argued, was backed by various state laws, especially the Kwara State Education Law of 1996 (CAP E1 of the laws of Kwara state).
“These laws are very clear about the status of these schools and the rules guiding them.
“Such rules include pluralism in the recruitment of students and teachers. These schools, being public owned, are to adhere to policies of the government,” he added.

Chairman of Heirs Holdings Tony Elumelu has called on African leaders to think about making prosperity their priority for everyone. Elumelu said he prefers everyone to prosper than money being in the hands of a few billionaires.
He made this known during a fireside chat with CNN anchor Eleni Giokos while discussing changes that have swept across Africa post-pandemic and the future of the continent at the 2021 World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
“Instead of us having a pyramid of a few billionaires, I prefer a large base that has prosperity, happier people and people whose basic human needs are met. I think this is what will give us the sustainability we need in Africa,” he said.
The founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic presents an opportunity for African leaders to prioritize driving poverty out of the continent.

“I say it anywhere to people, poverty anywhere is threat to mankind everywhere. And in Africa, you see poverty first hand. A Nigerian lady identified as Funmilayo Victoria Fehintola has been found roaming at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos.
The 31-year-old who is alleged to have lost her memory was reportedly deported from Oman. She arrived in Nigeria onboard an Emirates airplane with passport number A10173960.
Her documents show that she left Nigeria for the Middle East on February 29, 2019.
A good Samaritan and cargo agent at the airport, Mr. Thompson Oladapo, who has been catering for Funmilayo’s upkeep for a week, said the lady hardly responds to inquiries from people who attempt to assist her locate her family, Daily Trust reported.

According to him, the lady alleged that she was injected with substance unknown to her in Oman before she was bundled into the aircraft she boarded to Lagos.
Also her document showed that she received her certificate for negative PCR status for travel purpose on the 10th of March, 2021 from Salalah Al Gharbia Health Center in Oman while the certificate was signed by Dr. Salih Al Azawi and the Consultant was Ahmed Abdul Wahab Ahmed Mohd.
Also, another document issued by the Dubai Health Authority via the AMC Family Medicine DXB Concourse B certified by the facility Managing Director, Bisher Josef Alazzam, noted that “the patient is vitally stable, there is no obvious medical contraindication for travel at the time of discharge”.
The result was dated 11th of March 2021. Funmilayo travelled on Emirates airlines to Nigeria via Dubai. The result also indicated that the issue addressed was ‘abnormal behaviour’.
Her caregiver also disclosed that he visited Ibadan, on Tuesday March 16th to locate the address, No 2 Agisope, Muslim in the Oyo state capital as indicated in Funmilayo data provided by the immigration but no such place was found.
Mr. Thompson, however, appealed to members of the public to help locate the family members of the troubled lady to come to her aid and take her away from the premises of the airport as she currently sleeps on the walkway and inside buildings under construction at the terminal.

Barely two weeks after his impeachment as the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludare Kadiri has headed to court to challenge his removal.
It had earlier reported that Kadiri was removed over alleged gross misconduct and insubordination.
But, the lawmaker, who has since been replaced by Hon. Akeem Balogun, debunked the allegations, saying his removal did not follow due process.
Kadiri in a suit marked FHC/ AB/ FHR/ 35/ and dated March 10, dragged the Assembly before a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, asking the court to quash his removal.

The embattled lawmaker also requested for a sum of N1.5billion as damages.
In the suit, Kadiri listed the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, as the first respondent, while the House of Assembly was the second respondent.
According to the court paper signed by his counsel, Idowu Adepeju, Kadiri is seeking a declaration that his right to fair hearing under section 36(1) of the Nigerian constitution had been violated by the respondents in the process of his removal from office.
He is also seeking an order declaring his impeachment and the process as null, void and of no effect.
Kadiri is requesting for an order of perpetual injunction, restraining the respondents and their agents from taking any further step or doing anything that will deny him his right as the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has named midfielder, Mason Mount, as the player his team missed during their Champions League round of 16 second-leg 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
Tuchel admitted that Chelsea missed the England international’s work-rate and intensity during the Blues’ win over Atletico Madrid.

“Maybe he suffers a bit to adapt to our style because he loves to play creative, and he needs to adapt to the structure, but he gives a very reliable work-rate for the team.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was temporarily suspended by some countries in the European Union (EU) as a precautionary measure.
It said the countries suspended the vaccines due to reports of rare blood coagulation disorders in persons who had received the vaccine.
The health body which recommended the vaccine said that some countries in the EU, having considered the same information, had decided to continue using the vaccine.
WHO explained that it has considered the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine and it outweighed its risks.

“Vaccination against COVID-19 will not reduce illness or deaths from other causes. Thromboembolic events are known to occur frequently. Venous thromboembolism is the third most common cardiovascular disease globally.
“In extensive vaccination campaigns, it is routine for countries to signal potential adverse events following immunization. This does not necessarily mean that the events are linked to vaccination itself, but it is good practice to investigate them. It also shows that the surveillance system works and that effective controls are in place, the statement said,” it said.
It added that it was carefully assessing the latest available safety data for the AstraZeneca vaccine and will immediately communicate the findings to the public.

The Biafra Nations League, BNL in Bakassi Peninsula, has threatened to unleash mayhem on any security agency that will stop their operations in the region.
According to the group, they have taken over the creeks and bushes of the region to hoist the Biafran flags in all parts of Bakassi Peninsula of both the Nigeria and Cameroon.
They also threatened to enforce the expulsion of oil companies in the region in a statement signed by its Operational Commander in Bakassi Peninsula, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
“BNL activities in Bakassi Peninsula will differ from other areas,” the group warned.

The Kwara State Government has announced the reopening on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, of the 10 Christian schools that were recently shut down over the hijab crisis.
A statement signed late Tuesday by Mrs Kemi Adeosun, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development said that “the government is convinced that its policy to allow willing Muslim schoolgirls to wear their hijab in public schools will lead to sustainable peace and communal harmony anchored on mutual respect and understanding.
“This path to mutual respect, understanding, and peace with regards to hijaab had long been adopted in all of the northern Nigeria and many states in the Southwest such as Lagos, Osun, Ekiti, and Oyo States.”
The schools affected include C&S College Sabo Oke, ST. Anthony College, Offa Road, ECWA School, Oja Iya, Surulere Baptist Secondary School, Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam, CAC Secondary School Asa Dam road, St. Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke, St. John School Maraba, St. Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale, and St. James Secondary School Maraba.

The statement continued, “As the students resume normal classes, the government took special notice of the plight of those of them preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and hereby directs affected schools to hold at least two-hour extra lesson for all the intending candidates after school hours daily.
“The government will provide light lunch for the students until the beginning of their exams while teachers allotted for the extra coaching will get stipends for their efforts.
“This is to bring the students up to speed ahead of the impending external examination. The closure of the schools was necessary to forestall security breaches that may affect lives and properties.
“The government sincerely commends the Christian and Muslim leaders for their understandings and their efforts to build peace within their respective communities in the past weeks. It urges everyone to join hands with the government to raise a generation of schoolchildren who will respect one another’s differences and together build a sustainable future for our state.
“Finally, the government reminds all its employees such as school principals and teachers in the affected schools to take special note of the policy. There will be zero tolerance for violations of anyone’s fundamental human rights under their watch.”
Recall that the government shut the 10 schools on February 19, 2021, following a crisis on the wearing of Hijab by Muslim female students who are attending the schools.
The state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria said that it would not agree to the use of hijab in schools established by Christian missions, saying that they were surprised that the government was trying to make a decision on a matter which is still before the Supreme Court.
CAN said, “The body condemns the use of Hijab in Christian Missions Grant Aided Schools as this will cause discrimination in schools and allow terrorists to easily identify our children and wards.”

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has slammed Governor Godwin Obaseki for marking his 100 days in office in neighbouring Delta State.

Eight people, six of whom were Asian women, were killed in shootings at three different spas in the US state of Georgia Tuesday, with a 21-year-old man in custody on suspicion of staging all three attacks, police said.
The shootings came with many Asian-Americans already on edge following a recent spike in hate crimes against the community, and triggered immediate fears that Asian-run businesses may have been deliberately targeted.
Four of the victims were killed at Young’s Asian Massage near Acworth, a suburb of Georgia’s capital city Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Captain Jay Baker of the Cherokee County sheriff’s office told the paper the victims were two Asian women, a white woman, and a white man, while a Hispanic man was wounded.

The Atlanta police department separately confirmed that four women were found dead at two business establishments in northeast Atlanta, identified as the Gold Massage Spa and Aroma Therapy spa.
Police told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that all four Atlanta victims were Asian women.
South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported the country’s foreign ministry had confirmed that four of the victims were of Korean descent.
Authorities have identified Robert Aaron Long as a suspect in all three shootings.
Based on the pattern of surveillance video from the shooting scenes, Atlanta police spokesman Sergeant John Chafee told AFP: “It is extremely likely our suspect is the same as Cherokee County’s, who is in custody.”
“We are working closely with them to confirm with certainty our cases are related,” he added.
Long was taken into custody after a “brief pursuit” about 150 miles (240 kilometers) from Atlanta, according to a statement by the Georgia Department of Safety on Facebook.
Describing the scene in northeast Atlanta, the city police department said: “Upon arrival, officers located three females deceased inside the location from apparent gunshot wounds.”
While on the scene, officers were advised of shots fired across the street, where they found a fourth female victim.
Adriana Mejia, niece of one of the victims, said the family was “devastated” after her uncle was shot and that they were praying for his recovery.
“We never know when we’re at the wrong place at the wrong time because this was so all of a sudden,” she said. 
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was assisting in the investigation, a spokesman told AFP.
– ‘Marginalized minorities’ -The shootings come as reports of attacks against Asian-Americans, primarily elders, have spiked in recent months — fueled during the Covid-19 pandemic, activists believe, by talk of the “Chinese virus” by former president Donald Trump and others.
News of the shootings came just hours after the release of a report by the advocacy group Stop AAPI Hate suggested a marked increase in hate crimes against Asia-Americans — with women disproportionately affected. 
In a tally of incidents reported to the group between March 2020 and February this year, almost 70 percent of Asian-American survey respondents said they had faced verbal harassment and just over one in 10 said they had experienced physical assault.
While racial motivation can be hard to establish, a study by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at CSU San Bernardino also found that reported anti-Asian hate crimes nearly tripled across 16 major US cities including New York and Los Angeles — even as overall hate crime fell seven percent.
Georgia is home to nearly 500,000 Asian residents, or just over four percent of its population, according to the Asian American Advocacy Fund.
The Democratic party in Georgia called Tuesday’s shooting spree “horrifying.”
“As details continue to emerge, this attack sadly follows the unacceptable pattern of violence against Asian Americans that has skyrocketed throughout this pandemic,” said Congresswoman Nikema Williams, who is also the state party’s chairwoman.
In an address to the nation last Thursday, President Joe Biden forcefully condemned what he called “vicious hate crimes against Asian-Americans who have been attacked, harassed, blamed and scapegoated.”
“It’s wrong. It’s un-American. And it must stop,” he said.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has announced the return of 118 Nigerians who were stranded in Libya.
NIDCOM, in a post on Twitter, said the returnees who arrived in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday include 51 males, 41 females, 17 children, and nine infants.
The Commission said, “118 Returnees ( 51 Males, 41 Females, 17 Children, and nine Infants ) Stranded Nigerians in Libya just arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 1.30am local time today 17th March 2021 via Buraq Air.
“The returnees will be quarantined at the Federal Capital Territory Hajj camp for 14 days in line with the new COVID-19 protocols by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.”

The two female students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ogun State, kidnapped on Sunday have been rescued by the Ogun State Police Command.

The students are Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule and were kidnapped in Ayetoro area of Ogun State.
 
The news of their release was broken to the public by Governor Dapo Abiodun late Tuesday night on his twitter handle.
 
The governor thanked the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies involved in the exercise.
 
“This is to announce that we have secured the release of Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule – both OOU students recently kidnapped in Ayetoro.
 
“I appreciate the efforts of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies involved in the exercise that will now see the ladies reunited with their respective families,” he tweeted.
 
Gunmen had stormed the Ayetoro campus in Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State were, on Sunday night, and kidnapped the students
 
The gunmen were said to have demanded N50 million for the release of the students.
 
Abiodun had earlier on Tuesday said his government was aware of the two kidnapped Olabisi Onabanjo University students, and that his government was on top of the situation with practical steps taken to ensure their prompt release and freedom.
 
“I have been working closely with the Police and other security agencies since the incident to ensure their safe release.
 
“The agencies have been charged to liaise with locals for relevant information, and make the best use of the logistic support we have just sent to the Joint Security Intervention Squad in the LGA.
 
“As an administration that places premium on our people’s lives and property, we will definitely ensure they are released as soon as possible,” he had said.

Players and officials of Ekiti United Football Club of Ado-Ekiti were on Tuesday involved in an auto crash.

The club’s Media Officer, Quozeem Oladapo, made this known in a statement Tuesday night, describing the accident as “mild”.
 
He noted that the accident occurred while the players were returning to Ado-Ekiti from Ikere-Ekiti after their evening training session.
 
While stating that there were no casualties, Oladapo said, “But some of them were with varying degrees of injury.”
 
Oladapo said the team had recently travelled to Lagos and Ilorin for two away matches.
 
 
“After traveling to Lagos on March 8 for the midweek clash with Vandrezzer FC on Wednesday, the team returned to Ado-Ekiti on Thursday night.
 
“The team also embarked on the journey to Ilorin on Friday morning for the Saturday clash with Osun United.
 
“The vehicle returned to Ado-Ekiti on Sunday after Saturday’s Nigeria National League (NNL) match without any fault or hiccup,” he said.
 
One player and two officials of Akwa United were injured in an accident last Friday morning, while on their way for a Nigeria Professional Football League clash against Jigawa Golden Stars in Kaduna.
 
On March 2, Wikki Tourists bus was razed by fire on their way to Uyo for a clash with Dakkada FC.
 
A day after, the Kano Pillars bus also caught fire on their way to honour an NPFL match in Makurdi, Benue State.
 
Three days after the Pillars’ incident, another fire incident was averted as Kwara United travelled back from Enugu to Ilorin in their team bus, after an NPFL clash with Rangers, following a mechanical fault.
 
Adamawa United’s team bus was also attacked by gunmen while on their way to Lagos for their game against MFM FC, with their bus driver kidnapped, but released days after.
