He said, “My father died around 1pm last Sunday. I was 30 minutes away from the hospital when he died. For his burial, we want to work around April 2 and 3. I don’t want to sound like I’m giving a precise date because it’s dependent on the venue we want to use. We have to be sure that the venue is free to accept my father’s burial.<br /> <br /> “On that Sunday, he was first taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta but was later rushed to a private hospital because he needed urgent medical attention. My father never thought that his sickness would eventually lead to his death. He battled stroke for nine years. Though the doctors said it was partial stroke but I believe that stroke is stroke.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> “He always felt that he would get back on his feet one day, though he was forgetting things and it seemed like he was beginning to lose his memory. He would get it back sometimes like he wanted to say something but then, he would forget again. Sir K (Pa Kasunmu) never submitted to death. He was still optimistic that he would get back to acting.<br /> <br /> “Sometimes, he used to lament that people didn’t call him for movie roles again because of his ailment. But I always encouraged him that he would soon be hale and hearty. He constantly told us that he was targeting Pastor Enoch Adeboye because he believed that once the man of God prayed for him, his brain would come back and his health would be restored. He was not seeing well and sometimes, his eyelids would shut down that he had to use his hands to open them himself; it was that bad.<br /> <br /> “We had a lot of offers from different people under the guise of prophets and spiritualists. He was the joy of the family. His ambition in life was to die as an actor. He wanted to live all his life on the screen and on the stage. His house was littered with scripts, both finished and unfinished.”<br /> <br /> Pa Kasumu’s son also revealed that his father’s teachings and attitude to work were enviable. He said, “He loved his acting career like a baby loves breast milk. Acting was like his oxygen.<br /> <br /> “I like to remember him for his strength and his passion for life and his job. His own kind of passion wasn’t driven by the availability of money. He just wanted to act. He was full of joy doing all the things he did for a living. He believed that money was automatic that would come by doing what he loved to do. He was a disciplinarian when it concerned his job. My father always said that when one loves what one does, one would find joy within one’s heart and one won’t see it as a taxing career.<br /> <br /> “Even though I’m not in the movie industry, his attitude to work moulded my life and career. I’m also happy that my father saw his grandchild. He was a very strong man and he died as a very good man.<br /> <br /> “I can boldly say that my father lived a fulfilled life to a very good extent. I am not happy with the way things ended with him. My father loved his acting career like a baby loves breast milk. He had too much passion for acting; like his life depended on it. Acting was like his oxygen.”

Brethren, a miracle was accomplished. Aneke adjourned further proceedings in the matter till May 18.

We will not be harassed, bombed, intimidated or arm-twisted to give our support to any person. Enough is enough.”<br /> <br /> He said all aspirants, “including Godwin Obaseki if he chooses to remain in the APC, will have to submit themselves to the party’s  primary”.<br /> <br /> He said there were indications that Obaseki  was shopping for a party that would accept him.<br /> <br /> Imuse said, “We wish to sound a note of warning to Godwin Obaseki and his co-travellers who are determined to destabilise our party’s  cohesiveness that they will not succeed in their dastardly plans. Any person who aspires to contest the forthcoming Edo governorship election should conduct themselves appropriately as outlined in the constitution of APC.”<br /> <br /> On Oshiomhole’s suspension, he said, “That was what Godwin Obaseki and his co-travellers set out to achieve.<br /> <br /> “All they wanted was to denigrate the person of Oshiomhole and bring his towering political status to ridicule and contempt.<br /> <br /> “At no time did we in the state executive get notification from ward 10 or Etsako West Local Government Area executive to the effect that  Adams Oshiomhole was subjected to any disciplinary procedure. Any document claiming to have done so is a nullity.<br /> <br /> “Nine members of the ward executive committee of ward 10 who had earlier been suspended, maliciously concocted a document from Government House at the instigation of Godwin Obaseki purporting to suspend the National Chairman of our party, an action they do not have a constitutional authority to so do.”<br /> <br /> However, the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie has said that Imuse is not an executive member of the Edo State chapter of the APC and has no right to make statements on behalf of the party in the state.<br /> <br /> Osagie, in a statement, said Imuse is a product of the misadventure of Oshiomhole and his co-dissidents in the Edo Peoples Movement, a rogue body which he tried to use to factionalise the Edo APC.<br /> <br /> In another development, Osagie berated ex-Minister of State for Works, Chris Ogiemwonyi, for   his media onslaught against Obaseki.<br /> <br /> He said Ogiemwonyi’s alleged  inability to manage his private family affairs  had disqualified him from  his  bid to govern the state.<br /> <br /> Ogiemwonyi is a leader of the APC in the state loyal to Oshiomhole.<br /> <br /> In a statement on Friday,  Osagie claimed Ogiemwonyi’s political career was initiated by his estranged wife, Senator Stella Oduah, and was also terminated by her when she got fed up with him. He claimed  such a character could not  be “trusted with the mandate of a local council let alone a state like Edo with a rich and sophisticated history.”<br /> <br /> Osagie added, “Ogiemwonyi’s political career was initiated by Stella Oduah who was then his wife. She also ended his political career by withdrawing the ministerial appointment she once nominated him to hold.<br /> <br /> “Stella Oduah has since dumped him, bringing his brief venture into politics to an end. So, you can see that this man who cannot manage a woman and his home certainly cannot run even a local government let alone a state like Edo with all our historical and contemporary sophistication.<br /> <br /> “Ogiemwonyi’s travail was advertised to the public during his screening at the Senate. Oduah boldly told the hollowed chamber that her name  was  Stella Oduah with no reference to her husband. Since he is unable to get a hold of his household, it is only evident that he won’t be able to manage the affairs of Edo State.”

It was her working hard that has enticed both the Court of Appeal and the National Judicial Council to uplift her to the position of the President of the Court of Appeal.”<br /> <br /> He urged her to continue to be charismatic and carry out her tasks diligently.<br /> <br /> Muhammad also asked her to always consult with her colleagues and pay visits to the court’s divisions in the various parts of the country to be “equipped with information about what happens in those places.”<br /> <br /> Eight justices of the Supreme Court joined the CJN to perform the swearing-in ceremony.<br /> <br /> They were Justices Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, Sylvester Ngwuta, Olukayode Ariwoola, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Amina Augie, Ejembi Eko, Paul Galumje, and Uwani Abba-Aji.<br /> <br /> The ceremony which had Justices of the Court of Appeal and heads of other federal courts in attendance was also witnessed by governors Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State.<br /> <br /> The 62-year-old Dogban-Mesem, who hails from Plateau State, and is a law graduate of Ahmadu Bello University was appointed a judge of Plateau State High Court in 1993 and later, on transfer became a judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in 1996.<br /> <br /> She was elevated to the Court of Appeal bench in 2003.<br /> <br /> She was the Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal until her appointment as the Acting President of the court.

The IGP met with the different factions of the NWC at the Force Headquarters, where he handed down the warning.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> But as the meeting with the IGP was going on, security was beefed up at the National Secretariat of the APC on Blantyre Street in Wuse 2. Saturday Telegraph noticed men of the Nigerian Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) patrolling the area under the directive of the FCT Director of DSS, who was seen with about five men of the Service on motorbike. Speaking with Saturday Telegraph, a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), who preferred anonymity, said the chairman’s fate had “been sealed as he was asked by the IGP not to appear at the party secretariat in official capacity”.<br /> <br /> The NWC member also explained that the Acting National Secretariat, Hon. Victor Giadom, has been asked to oversee the party until the leadership announces an acting National Chairman. “We have just finished the meeting now and the IGP asked Oshiomhole not to come near the party again. Giadom would be overseeing the party pending when the leaders will announce an acting chairman. And it won’t be long that the party would announce an Acting National Chairman.”<br /> <br /> However, some personal staff of Oshiomohle were prevented from gaining access into the party secretariat. The staff, who came with two Toyota Jeep cars were asked to go back from the entrance gate of the party.<br /> <br /> From 7am when staff reported for work till 8pm when they left, the APC National Secretariat that is located on Blantyre Street was kept locked. Only few security men where seen going on and out of the secretariat. Even after the Oshiomhole staff identify themselves, they were still denied access to gain entrance into the secretariat. They were later asked to move away from the gate of the secretariats.

Lewis-Allagoa, sitting at the Federal High Court in Kano on Thursday, voided the suspension of Oshiomhole as a member of the APC.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> He also held that the Independent National Electoral Commission should not recognise anybody, except Oshiomhole, as the APC national chairman.<br /> <br /> Justice Lewis-Allagoa’s ruling came a day after Justice Danlami Senchi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi, made an order suspending Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the APC.<br /> <br /> Justice Senchi had premised his order suspending Oshiomhole as the APC national chairman on the November 2, 2019 resolution of the Ward 10, Etsako West Local Government Area.<br /> <br /> Justice Senchi held that Oshiomhole could not continue to function as the APC national chairman when he had been suspended by his ward.<br /> <br /> The Abuja judge ordered Oshiomhole to stop parading himself as the APC national chairman, and ordered the APC to deny him access to the party national secretariat<br /> <br /> But on Thursday, Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that the November 2, 2019 “purported resolution of the Ward 10, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State APC,” suspending Oshiomhole as a member of the APC was of no effect.<br /> <br /> The judge, who ordered that the status quo ante bellum should be maintained, directed all parties to the suit before him on the subject, not to give any effect whatsoever to the “purported resolution” suspending Oshiomhole as a member of the APC.<br /> <br /> He made an interim order, directing the APC; the INEC; the Inspector-General of Police; and the Director General, State Security Service “either by themselves, servants, privies, assigns or any other officer, howsoever described and by whatever name called, from giving effect to the purported resolution of Ward 10, Etsako West Local Government Area of 2nd November 2019 suspending the 2nd defendant (Oshiomhole) as a member of the 1st defendant (APC) pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”<br /> <br /> The judge also restrained INEC from “dealing, communicating or howsoever recognising any person other than the 2nd defendant (Oshiomhole) as the national chairman of the 1st defendant (APC) for any party business or carrying out any duties in the commission by the Electoral Act.”<br /> <br /> The ex parte application leading to Justice Lewis-Allagoa’s orders was filed by one Aliyu Muhammad Rabiu.<br /> <br /> The judge adjourned till April 8 to hear the motion on notice filed by Rabiu.<br /> <br /> <b><br /></b><b>Oshiomhole blames ordeal on governors, minister</b><br /> <br /> Shortly after meeting the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), on Thursday, Oshiomhole went spiritual as he rained curses on those he believed were behind his current ordeal.<br /> <br /> He said God, who listened to his prayers, would bring out whatever his enemies planned against him in darkness and destroy it in daylight.<br /> <br /> The former governor of Edo State also accused “some governors and a particular minister” of teaming with some forces in the APC to rubbish his achievements.<br /> <br /> He fingered Governor Godwin Obasaki of his state, whom he described as “a son I gave birth to”, as one of the governors. But, he didn’t name the others and the said minister.<br /> <br /> He stated, “Let me also say that those behind this plot, the hands you saw, which include as you saw yesterday (Wednesday), the Edo state governor and his people jubilating.<br /> <br /> “But, that is the irony of life; that you will help give birth to a child and the child looks for a cutlass to want to chop off your neck. It has happened in history; it has happened in this country so I won’t be only person.<br /> <br /> “But, there are other forces who see me for whatever reason as a threat to them. And those leading this anti-Oshiomhole campaign, some of them I emphasise, cannot even boost of a councillor in their state even as they lay claim to leadership position in our party.”<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole had rushed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for a meeting with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), soon after Justice Lewis Allagoa set aside an earlier ruling of the FCT Court suspending him as the APC’s chairman.<br /> <br /> He had also visited Buhari on Tuesday, just 24 hours before the FCT High Court granted the interlocutory prayers to suspend him on Wednesday.

The government of China did not allow them to return and that has delayed the work on Lagos Ibadan.”<br /> <br /> The minister also explained that the government was still test-running the rail tracks.<br /> <br /> He also noted that the government would deploy 10 coaches each to the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna rail lines to ease passenger movement.<br /> <br /> “We are still test-running the tracks. Commercial activities are yet to commence fully.<br /> <br /> “To test-run the tracks, we brought in two coaches, each coach takes about 25 passengers. So the two coaches take about 50 passengers.<br /> <br /> “We have got signals from the passengers and the engineers that the tracks are ready to run, but we need to complete communication, signaling and station buildings. Once that is done, we are good to go.<br /> <br /> “We are bringing in 20 new coaches and four new locomotives, 10 coaches will be deployed to Abuja-Kaduna and the other 10 to Lagos-Ibadan.”

Aneke that he was the Head of Operations at the Ado Ekiti branch of Zenith Bank, adding that his duty was to oversee three units, namely: Funds Transfer; Cash and Teller; and Customer Service.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The banker, who was led in evidence by a member of the prosecuting team for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Adebisi Adeniyi, said the transaction began with a call on April 16, 2016, from his Zonal Head, Dr Abiodun Oshode, instructing him of the need to move N200m cash from Fayose’s residence down to the bank.<br /> <br /> Abidakun said, “I received a call from my Zonal Head, Dr Abiodun Oshode, that there was an assignment to be carried out; that there was a sum of N200m to be moved from the residence of the then governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose; that we had to go and move the cash urgently and I immediately called upon the cash officer to arrange for policemen. The policemen arrived after 30 minutes. We arranged for their payment and called it police money. We also arranged for the cash driver and the cash movers.<br /> <br /> “So, they set out for the assignment. After about one hour, they came back with the money and the money was counted and ascertained to be N199.5m as against N200m. While detailed counting of the money was going on, Mr Abiodun Agbele came in with one other man, Mr Taofeek.<br /> <br /> “I know Mr Abiodun Agbele to be close to the governor but I don’t know his position; he gave instructions that the money should be credited into the account of Still Earth Nigeria Limited and that the depositor was Mr Taofeek.<br /> <br /> “At the point of posting, I discovered that the deposit slip was filled by my subordinate, Oputu Okeimute. I asked him why he filled the deposit slip and he said the depositor could not read or write. After that, the money was credited into the account of Still Earth.”<br /> <br /> Under cross-examination by Fayose’s lawyer, Ola Olanipekun (SAN), Abidakun affirmed that he did not personally go to Fayose’s house but delegated Adewale Aladegbola to lead the team.<br /> <br /> “Aladegbola was the only one that knew the destination. I didn’t tell him the amount of money but he led the team.<br /> <br /> “When they came back, they didn’t tell me that they met the first defendant (Fayose),” the witness added.<br /> <br /> Justice Aneke adjourned further proceedings till Friday.<br /> <br /> Fayose, alongside Spotless Investment Limited, is facing 11 counts, bordering on criminal breach of trust, theft and money laundering.<br /> <br /> In the charges, the EFCC alleged, among other things, that Fayose, on June 17, 2014, “took possession of the sum of N1, 219, 000,000 to fund your 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Ekiti State, which you reasonably ought to have known formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act, to wit: criminal breach of trust/stealing.”<br /> <br /> The ex-governor was also alleged to have on the same day “received a cash payment of $5,000,000 from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the then Minister of State for Defence, which sum exceeded the amount authorised by law and you thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 1 and 16(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 16 (2)(b) of the same Act.”<br /> <br /> Fayose and Spotless Investment Limited pleaded not guilty.

It is indeed worrisome that the Ministry of Education will accede to an evil demand to postpone the convocation of a first-generation university on the complaints of a man who only wants his ego to be massaged.”<br /> <br /> Babalakin did not take his calls and had yet to respond to a text message as of press time.

The NYSC frowns on truancy and indiscipline and will not hesitate to correct such acts in accordance with the provisions of the NYSC Act.”<br /> <br /> She added that out of 1203 corps members, 10 would be honoured with state merit award while four others would be presented commendation letters.<br /> <br /> Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Julius Ishaya, said his government would provide automatic employment to two outstanding corps members.<br /> <br /> The seven affected corps members in Katsina State, according to the state coordinator, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya, are also part of the 2019 batch A.<br /> <br /> Yahaya, at the passing out parade of the 1,800 corps members on Thursday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Katsina, added that four corps members also had their services extended.<br /> <br /> Yahaya said, “A total of 11 corps members are to serve various sanctions for violating certain sections of the NYSC bye-laws during the service year. While four members are to serve extension of service, seven others are to repeat the service year.”<br /> <br /> The NYSC Katsina coordinator also revealed that two corps members namely; Ahmad Ibrahim and Iwuanyanwu Precious from the batch were adjudged outstanding and were issued certificates of excellence.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the NYSC in Bauchi State said four members died during their one year mandatory service.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Bauchi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Namadi Abubakar, gave the names of the deceased corps members as Magdalene Yohanna, Fatima Ahmed, Oluga Susan and Ruth Musa.<br /> <br /> Abubakar added that a total of 14 corps members had been sanctioned for absconding and for contravening the scheme’s bye-laws.<br /> <br /> He explained that seven corps members who absconded from the one year mandatory service were to repeat the exercise.<br /> <br /> He added that seven others had their service year extended by four months for committing acts contrary to the scheme’s bye-laws.<br /> <br /> Also in Ebonyi State, no fewer than 18 corps members will be punished by the scheme.<br /> <br /> State coordinator of the NYSC, Ann Ibe, said some of the corps members who absconded for three months or more would repeat the service year, while others who absconded for about a month would have the number of days they absconded doubled.<br /> <br /> She added that four of the corps members would be given award for their exemplary contributions.<br /> <br /> She said, “A total of 18 corps members will have to receive various level of punishment in line with the NYSC bye-laws 1993 for various offences committed.<br /> <br /> “The recipients of the State Honours Award are Temitope Victoria Makanjuola, Nwosu Adaobi, Ngweche Chukwuma and Okeke Chiamaka.”<br /> <br /> In Sokoto, 22 corps members of 2019 Batch A are to repeat their service year for absconding and violating the rules of the scheme.<br /> <br /> Similarly, eight members out of 1,266 of the Batch ‘A’ Corps members in Kebbi State are to repeat their service year for violating the scheme laws, while ten others have been given extension of service.<br /> <br /> In his address at the passing out ceremony, Governor Aminu Tambuwal enjoined the out-going members to be in the vanguard of promoting national unity in line with the fundamental objective of the scheme.<br /> <br /> Acknowledging their contribution to the development of the state, Tambuwal counselled the corps members to uphold good morals imbibed during their service year in the state.<br /> <br /> On her part, the chairperson of the scheme in the state, Hajia Luba Usman, explained that two corps members received the Sultan of Sokoto prestigious award while three corps members received state award and another two received commendation letters for their outstanding performance during their service year.<br /> <br /> The state coordinator, Philip Enabuere, who lamented that the corps lost one member during the service year, further disclosed that the skill acquisition and vocational training they acquired during their orientation were enough to make them excel in the labour market .<br /> <br /> In Kebbi State, eight members are to repeat their service year for violating the scheme laws, while ten others have been given extension of service.<br /> <br /> Three were approved for honours award, and another three were given commendation letters.<br /> <br /> The Kebbi State coordinator said, “While 10 will have their service extended, eight corps members will be repeating their service for various offences contravening the laws of the scheme. Three were approved for honours award, and another three were given commendation letters.”<br /> <br /> In his remark, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Col.(retd.) Samaila Yombe Dabai, urged the outgoing corps members to continue to strive hard to uphold the unity of the country.<br /> <br /> “Your stay in Kebbi State this last one year, must have exposed you to life challenges and new experiences in different fields of pursuits and host communities. I enjoin you all to strive hard to build upon the bonds of unity you have established here.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the NYSC in Anambra State on Thursday said it lost four corps members in the state within a service year.<br /> <br /> The state coordinator, Kehinde Aremu, who disclosed this during the passing out of the corps members, added that five corps members who distinguished themselves during the service year had been rewarded.<br /> <br /> He said, “As you drop your khaki suits and jungle boots, please keep away from every act of indiscipline and shun the get-rich-quick syndrome which is the easiest path to crime and disappointment.”<br /> <br /> The coordinator of the scheme in Ekiti State, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, said 25 erring corps members among the 2019 Batch A members in Ekiti State were sanctioned for absconding from service and absenteeism.<br /> <br /> Okpongete, who said eight of the erring corps members would repeat the service year while the remaining had their service year extended, added, “We de-kitted three others who were not qualified to serve. We sent them away and the university that presented them has also been blacklisted for sending unqualified people.”<br /> <br /> The NYSC coordinator, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during the passing-out-parade for 1,441 corps members that successfully completed their service year, said four of the outgoing corps members were honoured for outstanding performance.
