<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAErpV8FeKI4ko03zsqhYPoRF1SOrwSr9Ieb_BoGbofTucZm58V7PFy_AjrojF5OLwXG-cH_lQmFLNtEaJW7J6oEBCq4mPzJrq2jCbLyKrCra_gvep_71JpLbC98_fpUNyvSLPmsJP9M8/s400/ambode+ne.jpg" width="400" /></div> <br /> Fourteen opposition parties in Lagos State have formed an alliance to challenge Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The Chairman of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the state, Mr Kola Ajayi, made the disclosure on Saturday in an interview News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.<br /> <br /> He said that the “Star Alliance “was recently formed with the objective of providing what he called a credible alternative to the APC.<br /> <br /> Ajayi, who also chairs the alliance, listed other parties in the coalition as MEGA, Action Alliance and New Nigeria People’s Party.<br /> <br /> According to him, the others include People’s Progressive Party, People’s Redemption Party, Democratic Alternative and Accord.<br /> <br /> Ajayi said that the People’s Party of Nigeria, People ‘s Alliance for National Development and Liberty, People’s Democratic Movement and Legacy Party of Nigeria were also part of the alliance.<br /> <br /> He claimed that APC had yet to meet the aspirations of Lagos residents, hence, the need for a credible alternative.<br /> <br /> “We formed this coalition to provide a credible platform on which to deliver good governance to the real people at the grassroots.<br /> <br /> “We think Lagos residents deserve better and we should come together and give them the kind of government they want,’’ he said.<br /> <br /> He urged the residents to embrace the coalition which, he said, was formed for the masses.<br /> <br /> The coalition chairman said that the parties in the alliance had been<br /> meeting regularly on the strategy to employ to win Lagos in 2019.<br /> <br /> He said that the coalition would soon reach out to residents especially those at the grassroots on its development agenda.<br /> <br /> The state Chairman of NNPP, Malam Shakirudeen Olofin, also told NAN that the alliance was formed to give residents a `better deal’.<br /> <br /> He said that the coalition was the `Lagos Third Force’ with the intention to bring real governance to the state.<br /> <br /> Also confirming the alliance, the state Chairman of MEGA Party, Mr Oladele Idowu, said that the coalition was formed to deliver `real’ change to the state in the interest of residents.<br /> <br /> Lagos State Chairman of Action Alliance, Mr Shola Omojola, also told NAN that the opposition parties were discussing strongly in the alliance to give the state residents a better deal.

Men of valour don’t run away from challenges and it is the same thing with women of honour, except lazy men and women. In the action that was taken, even though the purpose was noble, the right position was not adopted. They had ample time to bring the requests but they did not.<br /> <br /> “We could have said more aircraft should be bought. What they have done is mumbo-jumbo. The President has violated the Constitution, which is the truth. If anybody is pretending that nothing has been done, the person should go to a mental home. Section 80 has been violated.”<br /> <br /> He added, “I do not have any regret for what I said. I stand on it. Where did I embarrass the President? Because of selfish interest here, people want to show to the President that everybody is cowed in Edo.<br /> <br /> “This is not a war I want to fight on a partisan basis. I have immunity on what I said on the floor of the Senate. I am being crucified outside for what I said during plenary.<br /> <br /> “I am going to report back to the Senate. All the security agencies must see the threat I am subjected to because I performed my duty as a Senator.”<br /> <br /> Urhoghide, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, while narrating his ordeal at the airport, said that he had the premonition that he would be attacked.<br /> <br /> According to him, “They (critics) have promised to deal with me. If not for the commissioner of police yesterday, nobody knows what would have happened. I obeyed the police commissioner; I remained where I was until the governor came.<br /> <br /> “We were side by side talking when a boy hit my head. The governor walked away. Before I left Abuja, I knew what was happening and the person responsible for it. I called him to tell him that it was unnecessary but he did not pick his calls.<br /> <br /> “It would be cowardice for me to abort the journey. I want to see what will happen. They display their thuggery; I am not cowed by it. I will represent my constituency and do whatever I want to do. I am going to take it to a proper court.”<br /> <br /> He continued, “It is a shame that at this time of our political development when other nations are moving in the right direction and the type of representation the eighth assembly has provided since 2015, people could still be cowed and harassed because of the views they have expressed, which is defending the constitution.

The increase has aggravated or triggered the increase in prices of other goods and services thereby compounding the already challenged standard of living of the average Nigerian worker,” he said.<br /> <br /> While noting that the current minimum wage of #18,000 had become unrealistic and inadequate to support basic standards of living, the governor affirmed the need to increase the present minimum wage but that same should be premised on the ability of employers to pay.<br /> <br /> According to the memorandum, Ekiti State government proposed a new formula that would see the federal government getting 30%, state governments 40%, local government councils 25% and 5% reserved for others.<br /> <br /> Fayose who hailed the request for a memorandum from all states urged the committee to approve a new wage based on the review of the current revenue allocation formula in favour of lower levels of government.

One of them was wounded.<br /> <br /> The captured herdsmen were identified as; Abubakar Umaru, Yusuf Alhaji Yaro and Adam Likita.<br /> <br /> Mohammed said, “The three militia paraded were arrested in Guma area where they were planning another attack.<br /> <br /> “Immediately they sighted the troops, they engaged them in gunfire, but the troops were able to arrest these suspects.”<br /> <br /> Paraded along with the militia herdsmen were; AK 47, charms, handset and ammunition.<br /> <br /> Two of the suspects; Umaru and Yusuf during an interview with newsmen claimed that their meeting point was near a river under a mango tree in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.<br /> <br /> They denied involvement in the killings in Benue state, the duo said that they were not the actual culprit but were handed guns by their colleagues who ran away when they sighted soldiers.<br /> <br /> However, our correspondent reliably gathered from one of the troops that engaged the herdsmen in the bush that the injured one, who claimed to be 20 years old, Umaru, was shot several times but felt no impact.<br /> <br /> According to the officer, who did not want to be mentioned who called them ‘these little boys’, added that, “you only see them small, they are very deadly, the one with injury did not blink an eye when the soldier was firing at him, in fact, thirty bullets were pumped on him until he turned and faced the soldier before bullet could hit his left arm.”<br /> <br /> The anonymous officer said that the gun used was MG which he said was more powerful than AK47.

They said that many people were not interested in the recall process.<br /> <br /> Miss Felicia Adebayo, a voter, who spoke with NAN, said that she came out because she was told that money was being shared at the polling units.<br /> <br /> “I am told that money is being shared to those that come; I need the money because we have not been paid salary for a while,” she said. Dino Melaye (APC/Kogi West).<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Correspondents monitoring the exercise in Melaye’s Kogi West Senatorial District, observed that the polling units were empty, with many people claiming that they were not aware of it. At some areas, youths protested against the move to recall the senator who they described as “an excellent representative”.<br /> <br /> An NYSC member, Miss Opemipo Solomon, the INEC officer at Akafe Lane polling unit, said that no one had shown up since they arrived the voting venue at 6.45 a.m.<br /> <br /> “No one has come to sign the recall papers; what we have had so far are threats from people asking us leave this place. “The people do not appear interested in what we are doing. Some youths have come to warn us against staying here,” she said. Another corps member, David Adah, INEC presiding officer at the Odo Akete polling unit also in kabba, said that many youths were angry over the recall process.<br /> <br /> “So many youths from the community are angry; they have alleged that their signatures were forged to endorse the recall process. “Most of the youths, who saw their names among those that signed for the recall of Melaye, have disowned the signatures and insisted that they are happy with the Senator,” he said. At the embattled senator’s polling unit in Ayetoro Gbede, a traditional ruler, Chief Ojo Adekunle, who led some youths to protest against the recall process, said that they were not aware of Melaye’s offence.<br /> <br /> “Melaye has done so well and we are happy with him; we have no reason to want to recall him,” he said. Adekunle said that Melaye was the best Senator Kogi West had ever produced, and urged his people not to betray their representative at this trying period. Mrs. Vicoria Ajewole, APC Woman Leader in Kabba Local Government, expressed surprise at the recall process, and declared that “it won”t work”. “Melaye is our son; there is no way anyone can recall him,” she said. At the central area of Kabba town, youths were seen chanting songs in praise of Sen. Dino Melaye.<br /> <br /> They vowed to resist attempt to disgrace him. And he too has accepted that it was wrong. We (lawmakers) swore to uphold the Constitution.<br /> <br /> “An impeachment, if you check Section 143, is a long process. The first thing is you have to do an investigation and then correspondences will be entered into; the President has to be written by the President of the Senate, who is the chairman of the National Assembly.<br /> <br /> “Then, of course, he (Buhari) too will reply and this has to go on for a long time. We have not reached this issue of an impeachment. Nobody on the floor of the Senate mentioned that the President should be impeached.”<br /> <br /> The senator also faulted the comments of critics, adding that it would be ignorant to move for an impeachment without following the due process.<br /> <br /> He said, “So if the papers said that somebody said that the President should be impeached, it is out of ignorance. I am very proud to be a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Edo South senatorial district.<br /> <br /> “As the Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, all revenues and expenditure fall on my table. So, this is part of it. So, they (critics) should be proud that this is what it is. The Constitution is above every person. So, we have not reached the point of impeachment.”<br /> <br /> Urhoghide further explained, “That was why the Senate President said that we should refer it to the judiciary, so that it would advise on what to do. So, an impeachment is not the first thing; if I come and even say that the President should be impeached, I am ignorant.<br /> <br /> “Section 143 is a very long section. Olasupo Ayokunle, had in a statement on Wednesday, urged Christians to hold peaceful protests within their church premises on April 29.<br /> <br /> He made the call against the backdrop of the Tuesday killing of two priests and 17 worshippers at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Mbalom , Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. Hundreds of persons have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen across the country this year alone, especially in Benue and Taraba states.<br /> <br /> He said, “CAN urges Christians in Nigeria to hold peaceful protests on the set-aside date, in the premises of their churches, asking the Federal Government and the security agencies to stop the unending killings and bloodshed in the country.<br /> <br /> “Christians are to carry placards with inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property in Nigeria. The inscriptions on placards could read, ‘Enough of bloodshed in Nigeria,’ ‘Enough of unlawful killings in the country’, ‘FG, release Leah Sharibu from bondage,’ ‘FG, stop herdsmen killings,’ and ‘CAN rejects FG’s poor handling of insecurity.’”<br /> <br /> The statement blamed the continued killings on the failure of the government to mount an effective campaign against the killings by suspected herdsmen, noting that there was no visible plan to pacify the aggrieved persons.<br /> <br /> Speaking to one of our correspondents in Abuja on Friday, the CAN spokesman stated that all chapters of CAN had been informed of the planned protests, noting that these chapters would send the message to all the churches in their domain.<br /> <br /> He said, “We have informed every chapter of CAN; we have sent messages to church leaders. We have to make our impact felt. We cannot force anybody to do it, but they all know the position of CAN .”<br /> <br /> When asked if CAN would apply for a police permit for the protest, the cleric responded that the church did not need a permit.<br /> <br /> “Do I need a police permit to stand in front of my church and say this is my position? Do you need a police permit to address a press conference? A court has ruled that for every peaceful protest, you don’t need a police permit. The highest court in the land also affirmed it. You don’t need a police permit to stage a peaceful protest; we have freedom of assembly and association,” he said.<br /> <br /> Oladeji expressed confidence that the protest would be successful, noting that even if only a few churches participated, the Christian faithful would have sent a message to the world that they were not pleased with the situation in the country.<br /> <br /> CAN has also described the President as being more interested in re-election than in the protection of lives and well-being of Nigerians, noting that the President did not care about the number of citizens that may end up as sacrificial lambs for his ambition.<br /> <br /> Speaking to journalists at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, the General-Secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake, catalogued the killings and bloodshed across the country, noting that the Buhari-led administration had returned the nation to the Dark Age.<br /> <br /> “War seems to be looming in Nigeria while the aggressors are no other than misguided individuals who had been armed to provoke different communities into needless battles.<br /> <br /> “Yet, President Buhari, who was popularly elected in 2015, has not seen the need and urgency to issue a presidential order on the need to halt the killings and with stern instruction to heads of security operatives to bring perpetrators to book.<br /> <br /> “The Dark Age has come with the administration of President Buhari in Nigeria, (which) is giving the Christians in this country a huge concern.<br /> <br /> “All the same, Mr. President has his own interests, the most imprtant of which is to seek re-election to remain in power beyond 2019 and continue with the reign of terror in Nigeria. It does not matter how many Nigerians will end up as sacrificial lambs on that single ambition.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Benue State chapter of CAN has said that Christians in the state are set to comply with the directive of the national leadership of the organisation.<br /> <br /> The state CAN chairman, Rev. Akpen Leva, further said that after the protest on Sunday, there would be seven days of prayer and fast, to commence on Monday.<br /> <br /> He further said that the directive would be communicated to the local churches in Benue latest by Saturday (today).<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Taraba State chapter of the CAN has directed all Christians in the state to dress in black during their protests on Sunday.<br /> <br /> Following an emergency meeting over the directive given by Ayokunle, the state chapter called on all Christians in the state to converge on the CAN Secretariat in Jalingo on Sunday by 3:00 pm for the peaceful protest and to come in black attire.<br /> <br /> Taraba State Treasurer of CAN , Very Rev. Fr. James Vontih, told Saturday PUNCH that the state chapter of CAN had decided to hold a joint protest, believing it would create more impact.<br /> <br /> “Instead of having the protest in individual churches, we have decided that all Christians in the state should converge on the CAN auditorium in Jalingo for a peaceful protest.<br /> <br /> “We are not going to block any road in protest, but we have arranged for some persons who will speak to Christians and send our message to the Federal Government. We are indeed saddened that despite the killings going on, the Federal Government has not given the crisis the attention it deserves,” he said.<br /> <br /> The Vicar General, Administration of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, Very Rev. Fr. George Dogo, called on Buhari to resign if he could not stop the killings.<br /> <br /> “Our stand on the issue has been made known to the world that President Buhari should honourably step aside to save the nation from total collapse,” he said.<br /> <br /> The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria had on Thursday issued a statement calling on the President to resign following the attack on the church in Benue.<br /> <br /> Similarly, the national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, whose members include The Redeemed Christian Church of God; Living Faith Church Worldwide International, aka Winners Chapel; The Redeemed Evangelical Mission and Deeper Christian Life Ministry, also said it had no choice but to comply with CAN’s directive as one of the blocs of the umbrella Christian body.<br /> <br /> The National Publicity Secretary of the PFN, Bishop Emmah Isong, said, “CAN is a family made up of five brothers and one of the biggest is the PFN; it is powerful because churches like RCCG, Winners Chapel, TREM, Deeper Life, Assemblies of God, name them, belong to the PFN. So when CAN gives instructions, the PFN is bound to comply with and will certainly obey those instructions, we cannot do otherwise.”<br /> <br /> The Chairman of CAN in Osun State, Rev. Father Michael Okodua, confirmed that he was aware of the directive from the national leadership of the association, saying “the directive came from the national leadership of the CAN.”<br /> <br /> In the same vein, the General Overseer of the Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Bishop Seun Adeoye, said he would mobilise all his church members to participate in the protest as directed by the leadership of CAN. The bishop said the killings in Nigeria, especially the ones targeted at Christians, had to stop.<br /> <br /> Ogun State CAN Chairman, Bishop Tunde Akin -Akinsanya, who spoke through his Press Secretary, Rev. Tolulope Taiwo, also said the state chapter of the association would comply with the directive as it “will send a strong signal that the Federal Government is not doing enough to stop the continuous killings of innocent Nigerians, especially the Christians.”<br /> <br /> The Methodist Bishop of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Rt. Rev. Lawson Elom, who said his church would comply with the directive, also noted that “it is a way of telling the leadership of the country that all is not well in the country in terms of security.”<br /> <br /> Similarly, the Kwara State PFN Chairman, Prof. Timothy Opoola, said that Christians in the state would comply with the directive.<br /> <br /> Opoola, who is also the state Chairman of CAN , said “PFN will observe it. All churches will observe it. We are going to meet at one place at UMCA on Sunday at around 4.00pm. Though PDP youths equally stormed the airport but they were chased away by the waiting APC youths.<br /> <br /> Urhoghide, who got wind of the situation allegedly hid himself at the VIP lounge.<br /> <br /> However, when Governor Godwin Obaseki arrived at the airport, Urhoghide made efforts to escape with the governor’s entourage but with the governor at the front of the VIP lounge, the APC youths pounced at him, removing his cap and hiting him with it.<br /> <br /> The Senator returned to the lounge while Governor Obaseki entered his vehicle and zoomed off. However, the PDP leaders who were at the airport to honour him with a red carpet reception with the Edo cultural troupe members fled for their dear lives on sighting the youths.<br /> <br /> As tension heightened at the airport,  some PDP youths were attacked by the angry APC youths as the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Kokumo and his men made frantic efforts to save the Senator. One of the PDP youth leaders was arrested by the police.<br /> <br /> Singing war songs, the APC youths said: “tell us what you have achieved as a Senator. You have not done anything for this constituency. You only care for your family. Tell us the projects you have attracted as a Senator.  You have not talked about yourself, you are calling for the impeachment of our President who is fighting corruption.<br /> <br /> “‘We are telling Urhoghide to apologize because Edo South people did not send you to impeach Buhari. Why did you and your cohorts not impeach President Jonathan who looted the treasure as we have observed today? the youths queried.<br /> <br /> When it became clear that the youths were not going to let Urhoghide leave the airport, soldiers came to the rescue. But the youths pretended they  left and returned when the soldiers left the airport.<br /> <br /> However, the Edo Commissioner of Police made serious efforts to disperse the youths at about 6:55pm, an effort that enabled security agents to smuggle the senator into a waiting Prado jeep.<br /> <br /> The Senator who spoke to journalists said he would not be intimidated.<br /> <br /> ¨I hope you people understand the working of the Senate. I am the Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Account. Every government expenditure falls on my table.<br /> <br /> ¨The President had a good intention of buying those equipment but the procedure was wrong and he has accepted that it was wrong. We have sworn  that we would uphold  the constitution. A good intention of buying something and a procedure that is wrong. What do we do?<br /> <br /> ¨The only thing that concerns the President’s office is Section 143. If you check Section 143, it is a long process. The first thing you have to do is investigation and correspondences will be entered into. The President has to be written and reply has to be received. It is projected to provide direct employment for 2,000 when completed.<br /> <br /> Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony on Friday at Emeyal I in Ogbia council area, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr.  Ibe Kachukwu said the project would be completed within its time frame.<br /> <br /> He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari completely believes in the project. He thanks you for the audacity of hope and the challenge to develop and self-help and the cooperation you give to NCDMB.<br /> <br /> “He has promised to do everything in his power to ensure that this is not one of such projects that are started and abandoned.<br /> <br /> “The challenge most of my colleagues and heads of parastatals do have with me is that I don’t go to visit projects unless you can show me the tracks to completion. I don’t want to be one of those ministers who when they leave have lots of commenced but abandoned projects.<br /> <br /> “I want to be one of those remembered for few completed projects. The Executive Secretary showed me the tracks to completion. My promise to you is that we will complete this project in record time.”<br /> <br /> In his address,  the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote, described the exercise as a great step towards achieving one of the board’s key mandates “to develop capacity of local supply chain for effective and efficient service delivery without compromising oil and gas industry standards..”<br /> <br /> He said over 2000 new jobs are expected to be created when the park takes off. This, according to him, is different from the thousands persons who will be involved in the construction of the site.<br /> <br /> “The project will positively impact Bayelsa State in general and Ogbia and its environs in particular. This positive impact will be felt both at the construction and operations stages of the project.<br /> <br /> “Over 2000 direct jobs and another 3000 would be created here when the plant becomes operational so what the community needs to do is to partner with us and ensure a speedy completion of the work because we do not abandon projects.<br /> <br /> “It is a multi billion naira project that will cause unprecedented growth and development in the community and beyond, it represents an achievement of a major milestone, to implement a project of this magnitude. This is the second of its kind in the Niger Delta and we are most committed to making sure that it is completed as at when due.<br /> <br /> “It will create opportunities and develop capacity for local support chain, and boost the economy of the country because from here equipment, spare parts and more will be created that will be utilised in the oil and gas industry of Nigeria,” he said.<br /> <br /> The NCDMB boss said it was important that the host community and the state government took ownership of the project by cooperating with the NCDMB, and the contractors that will be on site.<br /> <br /> “It will create opportunities for youths in the community and the state as well as develop capacity for local support chain and boost the economy of the country because from here equipment, spare parts and more will be created that will be utilized in the oil and gas industry of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> He added,  “we also want to ensure that the locals who are in the community are carried along because we shall make sure that they have capacity to work in the park when it is completed. It behooves on you (communities) to see us as your own and as partners in progress.”<br /> <br /> Wabote however warned that construction of the project would be stopped, if youths and other interest groups in the community make unnecessary demands from the board which he said was not out to exploit their resources, but only building a facility that would provide training for those who would work as technical workers in the oil and gas industry in the country.<br /> <br /> Also speaking, the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Barrister Kemela  Okara, who represented Governor Seriake Dickson, reiterated the the preparedness of the state to partner with the board to ensure a peaceful environment and speedy completion of the project.<br /> <br /> He commended the board for initiating the project noting that would accelerate the state quest for industrialization.<br /> <br /> In his remarks, the Obanema of Ogbia Kingdom, King Dumaro Charles Owaba, said the people of Ogbia where crude was first discovered in commercial quantity had waited for over six decades to see such project and would do every thing to protect it.<br /> <br /> “Ogbia kingdom is peaceful and the project will not be disrupted,” he assured and called on the firm handling the project to engage the people in the construction and operation of the park.</div>

What we do in PDP is to strategise to win elections and after elections, we work for the development of our people because we are in politics to serve our people.<br /> <br /> “The other party comes to kill our people because they lack the vision, they have no agenda for our people except to destroy what our founding fathers have built and what our government is consolidating on. Except us, no person, nobody in the South-South in any party had won election under the ruling APC.<br /> <br /> “We were the first to win election in the South-South under the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency. Any person who is deceived to contest election in 2019 on another platform other than PDP will still lose because only PDP can win election in Bayelsa State.<br /> <br /> “I am very grateful to all our brothers and sisters for taking the decision to return but while you were away, our party became very cohesive and strong with order and discipline. We had many criminals attacking a few policemen.<br /> <br /> “We had little information on the attack before it happened. However, we’re re-strategising and repositioning our men. We’re working on the community to ensure that those lapses we observed are addressed.<br /> <br /> “What essentially went wrong is our response capacity. We’re going to correct all those anomalies and get our men to be more responsive.<br /> <br /> “We’re on the trail of the suspects and a lot of successes have been recorded. It is true that we have deficit of APC in the state; in fact, we have two moribund ones. But there is already an arrangement on the ground by the state government to intervene and assist in this manner.”<br /> <br /> While condoling with the families of victims of the attack, Saleh stated that the Command would ensure that there was no recurrence of such in the state.</div>

On two occasions, this court has respected the Senate and as well, I expect the Senate to respect the court,” Dimgba said.<br /> <br /> He directed the respondents to serve advance copies of their counter-affidavits and other processes on the plaintiffs through email, not later than 7 pm on April 27.<br /> <br /> The judge adjourned the matter until April 30 for the hearing of the substantive suit.<br /> <br /> Omo-Agege is asking the court to, among other reliefs, grant an order restraining the defendants, their servants, agents, privies or officers from interfering with his rights and privileges as a senator.</div>
