<b>Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been sentenced to six months in prison for tax fraud in Spain – but the Atletico Madrid ace will pay €36,000 fine to avoid any jail time.</b><br />
<br />
Spanish outlet El Mundo report the Brazilian forward pleaded guilty to a tax offence amounting to €1.1m.<br />
<br />
He is accused of defrauding the state of more than £900,000 by not declaring payments of more than €5.15m (£4.63m) after his move to Chelsea in 2014.<br />
<br />
The tax agency denounced Costa for defrauding the authorities regarding €1m (£890,000) in image rights.<br />
<br />

<br />
The Spanish treasury added another fiscal crime to Costa before withdrawing and halving the fine.<br />
<br />
Costa is said to have asked Atletico to pay the fee, which they refused. However, they did give the striker an advance on his wages, meaning he could pay the fine in full.<br />
<br />
The fee is said to be around €500,000 (£450,000).<br />
<br />
Costa was called to testify in June last year, acknowledging the charges put against him.<br />
<br />
The 31-year-old was spotted arriving in court today for a short period of time, donning a protective face mask.<br />
<br />
An Atletico spokesman said on Wednesday: “Diego Costa reached an agreement a few months ago with the prosecutor and has already paid the corresponding fine plus interest and the request for a prison sentence was withdrawn.’<br />
<br />
“This week it is expected that agreement will be ratified in court, as is mandatory.”

<b>The US Justice Department sued a Chinese company for selling nearly a half million fake and substandard N95 respirator to US buyers in April as the COVID-19 pandemic swept the country.</b><br />
<br />
In a complaint filed in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, the department said Guangdong-based King Year Packaging and Printing shipped three batches of purported N95 masks, needed to protect medical and other personnel from the coronavirus, to US buyers.<br />
<br />
The company falsely claimed the 495,200 masks it shipped were met the N95 standard and also falsely claimed they were certified by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), according to the complaint.<br />
<br />
The complaint indicated the importer of the fake N95 masks paid more than $1 million for them.<br />

<br />
“The charges alleged in this complaint show a blatant disregard for the safety of American citizens,” FBI agent Douglas Korneski, who investigated the masks deal, said in a statement.<br />
<br />
“Had it not been for the actions of the investigative team, this defendant would have put first responders, hospital employees, and other front line workers directly in harm’s way with faulty equipment just to make a buck.”<br />
<br />
The Chinese company was charged with four counts of importing misbranded and substandard health products and making false to the US Food and Drug Administration.<br />
<br />
Each charge carries a maximum fine of $500,000, or if greater, twice what the company earned in selling the masks.

<b>The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has raised an alarm over prevalent low grade and contaminated AGO, otherwise called diesel, offered at discounted prices in parts of the Country.</b><br />
<br />
The warning is contained in a report by NNPC Retail Limited Managing Director, Sir Billy Okoye, on Friday advising motorists to be wary of the off-spec products.<br />
<br />
Okoye stated that the warning became necessary because the low grade, contaminated diesel was harmful to machines and the environment.<br />
<br />
He said that NNPC Retail Limited as a market leader considered it incumbent upon it to alert the public on the subject.<br />

<br />
He assured consumers that NNPC Retail Limited was dealing only in premium, high-quality products in the interest of Nigerian motorists and users.<br />
<br />
He urged consumers to patronise the company’s stations where the quality of their products was assured.<br />
<br />
As a deregulated product, diesel is also imported by other major and independent marketers in the Country.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the Corporation says it is taking measures to bring down cost of crude oil production to 10 dollars per barrel or below.<br />
<br />
The Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ventures and Business Development, Mr Roland Ewubare, said this in a statement issued by the corporation in Abuja, on Friday.<br />
<br />
The statement said that Ewubare spoke as a guest speaker at a TV programme in Abuja.<br />
<br />
He explained that terrain peculiarity was an important factor in determining cost, arguing that issues such as pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft, among others, were some of the factors peculiar to the Nigeria terrain that increased crude oil production cost in the country.<br />
<br />
He, however, stated that NNPC was looking very closely at such variable as logistics, security and transportation with a view to reducing cost of production to 10 dollars and below per barrel.<br />
<br />
He disclosed that much had been done over the years in the area of reducing contracting cycle which used to be a major factor responsible for high cost of production.<br />
<br />
He added that the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) achieved a six-month contracting cycle under him as Group General Manager.<br />
<br />
Amidst speculations of non-compliance by some countries with the production cuts agreed upon by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its non-member allies, he affirmed that Nigeria was in full compliance with the agreed output cuts.<br />
<br />
He noted that reports including Nigeria on the list of non-compliant countries were not true.<br />
<br />
Ewubare said that although Nigeria’s total production capacity was 2.3 million barrels per day (mbpd), it was currently producing only about 1.4 mbpd in compliance with the OPEC+ production quota.<br />
<br />
He said that what made up the little extra over the 1.4 mbpd figure being bandied around for Nigeria was condensate which is usually not computed as part of production in OPEC quota.<br />
<br />
“There’s some confusion in the market around the parameters for the production cuts.<br />
<br />
“Nigeria has a full production capacity of about 2.3 mbpd. We are currently producing between 1.6 mbpd and 1.7mbpd.<br />
<br />
“Our OPEC quota as a result of the cuts is about 1.4 mbpd. Condensate is not included in the computation of the cut numbers.<br />
<br />
“So what we have is 1.4 mbpd of crude oil. The little you see above 1.4 mbpd is made up of condensate which does not count as part of the basis for assessing our OPEC quota,” he said.<br />
<br />
It will be recalled that NNPC Group Managing Director, Malam Mele Kyari, in a recent interview said that NNPC was working assiduously to bring down the cost of crude oil production to not more than 10 dollars per barrel by 2021.

<b>Veteran Nigerian women’s table tennis player, Funke Oshonaike, has averred that  she developed hatred for s3x after she was raped as a young girl.</b><br />

The Olympian stated this while reacting to the rape and murder of Uwa Omozuwa, the 22-year-old 100 level student of the University of Benin, inside a church in Benin City, the Edo State capital.<br />

“It’s my true life story. Terrible experience for me and it affected my s3x life. I hated s3x. I don’t want to tell my entire story for now because of my autobiography that’s coming soon,” Oshonaike  recounted.<br />

She also beseeched parents to raise their male kids in the right way, saying it would help avert the scourge.<br />

<b>Private Jets Nigeria (aviation service provider), has disclosed that the association had suffered five billion dollars financial lose due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.</b><br />

Omotade Lepe, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the association, disclosed this during the Luxury Reporter Facebook live series with the theme: ” The Private Jets Sector Post- COVID-19″.<br />
<br />
Lepe said that the period had been most challenging for operators as it suffered revenue lose, decline in flight request and fixed overhead running.<br />
<br />
” COVID-19 has dealt seriously with the aviation sector generally but for the private jet operators, we can say we have lost over five billion dollars while the pandemic ravaged the world,” he said.<br />

The official said that the association had put in place some measures to revamp the business at post COVID-19 to recover some of the revenue lost.<br />
<br />
He said that luxury businesses generally needed to re-invent itself because the market was becoming more competitive.<br />

According to him, the association plans to go all out to attract business executives, corporate companies and more to recover some of the financial losses during COVID-19.<br />
<br />
”The rich people never find private jet as a way of life, we are going to reach out to them post COVID-19, likewise lowering our bar to meet with the upper-middle class, business executives and corporate companies.<br />

<b>The winner of the fifth edition of Big Brother Africa, Uti Nwachukwu, who was accused of rape by a Twitter user, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to launch an investigation into the allegation.</b><br />

Nwachukwu, who said he would surrender himself to the police to assist the investigation, also called on the IGP to prosecute the owner of the Twitter account for cybercrime if the allegation could not be substantiated.<br />

Denying the rape allegation, Nwachukwu stated that he was away in Houston, Texas, US, on August 5, 2017, the date of the alleged incident.<br />
<br />
Uti, who is also a TV host, submitted his petition through his lawyers, Johnmary C. Jideobi and Co., at the IGP’s office in Abuja on Friday.<br />

The lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, stated that his client emphatically denied all the allegations contained in the impugned tweets of Kambili Korie which are nothing but the figment of the imagination of the person who contrived same.<br />

<br />
The lawyer stated that his client would surrender himself for investigation for the rape allegation.<br />
<br />
But he said in the event that nothing was found against his client, the account holder should be prosecuted under the relevant laws.

<b>The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has removed the cap on the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol.</b><br />

The agency made the disclosure in a document it released in Abuja on Thursday entitled, ‘’Market Based Pricing Regime for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) Regulations, 2020’’.<br />
<br />
It said in the document signed  by its Executive Secretary, Mr Abdulkadir Saidu, that, henceforth, the price of PMS would be determined by market forces.<br />
<br />
It said that it would continue to monitor trends in the crude oil market and advise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and oil marketers on monthly guiding price for the commodity.<br />

The agency said that it made the  regulations with the approval of the President Muhammadu Buhari.<br />
<br />
“From the commencement of these regulations, a market-based pricing regime for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) shall take effect.<br />
<br />
“The agency shall monitor market trends and advise the NNPC and oil marketing companies on the monthly guiding Market-Based Price.<br />
<br />
“The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) advised by the agency shall be guiding retail price at which the product shall be sold across the country.<br />
<br />
“The regulations may be cited as the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) Market Based Pricing Regime Regulations, 2020, made this 20th day of March, 2020,” it said.<br />
<br />
According to the agency, the regulations seek to complement and enforce the provisions of the PPPRA (Establishment) Act, 2003, and to notify the general public of the existence of a market-based pricing regime for PMS with effect from March 2020.

<b>Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun,  has announced the relaxation of the curfew imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.</b><br />

Oyetola in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Friday in Osogbo,  also ordered civil servants on grade level Seven and above to resume work within normal office hours.<br />
<br />
He directed departmental heads to work out alternate working hours for staff  on grade levels One to Six.<br />
<br />
Oyetola further said that the curfew which was earlier  6. p.m to 6. a.m would now be from 9.p.m to 5.a.m daily.<br />

The governor, however,  said that the curfew would be relaxed for 14 days in the first instance.<br />
<br />
Oyetola also said that the total lockdown earlier imposed on the state from Friday to Sunday had been eased for 14 days in the first instance.<br />

The governor said the ban on political, public, religious and any kind of gatherings under whatever guise remained in force.<br />
<br />
He also said all major markets in the state would remain shut, while smaller markets would be opened .<br />
<br />
The governor said that traders in  smaller markets must ensure physical distancing, the use of face masks and obsere all other precautionary measures in accordance with the established protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).<br />
<br />
Oyetola thanked the people of the state for their cooperation during the period of the lockdown and  enjoined them to ensure the new measures on the gradual reopening of the economy were strictly adhered to.<br />
<br />
The governor also urged religious leaders to constantly remind their followers on the need for all hands to be on deck as the fight against the  COVID-19 pandemic was not over.<br />
<br />
“As you are all aware, the Federal Government,  few days ago lifted the ban on religious activities in the country.<br />
<br />
“We have, therefore, lifted ours too after our meeting with religious leaders on Wednesday with specific guidelines.<br />
<br />
“In furtherance to that, we have also further relaxed our curfew, as part of measures for the gradual reopening of our economy,” the governor said.

With a contract at PSG, estimated earnings of $95.5 million this year and the record for most expensive football transfer in history, at 222 million euros, Neymar does not qualify.<br />

<b>As state governments reopen worship centres this weekend, the Federal Government has threatened to review the relaxation of the restriction placed on churches and mosques, if worshippers disregard its guidelines.</b><br />

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said this on Thursday at the task force press conference in Abuja.<br />
<br />
He also lamented that some Nigerians, who tested positive for the virus,  refused to go into isolation.<br />
<br />
In the guidelines, the task force advises vulnerable people including those with conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer as well as people that are above 55 years to worship at home.<br />

On Thursday, Mustapha said the task force would continue to explain the guidelines it issued to worship centres and other public places.<br />
<br />
On the reopening of churches and mosques, he stated, “As we approach the weekend, we remind the public to be aware of the guidelines set for restricted opening of places of worship. National guidelines have been shared with the states and we expect that protocols will be agreed with religious leaders. Compliance is important so as to avoid unwanted consequences that put the lives of people at risk of contracting COVID-19. We urge utmost caution at all times.<br />

“The PTF will continue to monitor the overall compliance to the easing of restriction as well as evolution of the outbreak. However, we will not hesitate to review as we progress, should the situation warrant, to avoid preventable risks of transmission.”<br />
<br />
Mustapha restated that the World Health Organization had resumed the clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine, which it suspended on May 25.

<b>The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has requested that worship centres be allowed to go beyond one hour.</b><br />
<br />
The association stated this during a meeting with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), in Abuja on Thursday.<br />
<br />
CAN’s General Secretary Joseph Daramola said the one hour timing would not be enough for services, adding that it should be extended to at least 90 minutes.<br />
<br />
He urged Christians to adhere to the guidelines, and ensure safety at all time.<br />

FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Bello released procedures on reopening of places of worship in Abuja.<br />
<br />
According to the statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, the minister said all places of worship must sign up to full compliance with all aspects of non- pharmaceutical interventions required to protect the public from COVID-19, including but not limited to: “Ensuring the supply of running water and soap/alcohol sanitisers at entry and exit points and in all high-contact locations, including bathrooms; worshippers must sanitise their hands before entry; Provision of temperature checks before entry; mandatory use of face masks;<br />
<br />
“Strongly discourage all close contacts, including shaking of hands, hugging, kissing, handing out of materials and sharing of worship implements including prayer mats, musical organs, microphones etc;<br />
<br />
“Churches and mosques within the FCT must limit the capacity of their facilities to allow for physical distancing of at least two meters between persons.<br />
<br />
“Limit congregational contact times, with places of worship only opening for regular church and mosque services; churches are to open from 5am and close by 8pm and each service shall be for a maximum of 1 hour with an interval of 30 mins in between services to allow time for disinfection;<br />
<br />
“Mosques are to open 15 minutes before Adhan and close 10 minutes after prayers for the five prayers. Waiting period between Adhan and Iqamah should not be more than 10 minutes. Prayers are to be shortened to reduce duration of contact between congregations”.<br />
<br />
The meeting, the statement said, also acknowledged that the situation of COVID-19 in the FCT is still at a very critical stage and recognises that there is the danger that if the established protocols were not adhered to, the cases of those infected and fatalities will increase.<br />
<br />
The minister said: “It is therefore essential that all residents of the FCT take personal responsibility in ensuring strict compliance”.

<b>Ijaw nationalist and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has demanded the constitution of a new investigative panel to probe the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission and some members of the National Assembly.</b><br />
<br />
According to him, allegations made against the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Niger Delta Affairs, for which they have denied, were too weighty that they cannot be swept under the carpet while issues of corruption in the NDDC have become endemic.<br />
<br />
He also insisted on the Presidential directive on forensic audit on the NDDC saying deviating from such “is unacceptable”.<br />
<br />
Clark bared his mind in an open letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, dated June 3 2020, and obtained by newsmen In Abuja on Thursday.<br />

Clark said, “The allegations made against both Chairmen are too weighty that they cannot be swept under the carpet. Their statements or explanations are not enough at all. A new investigative panel should be constituted to investigate both the IMC and these members of NASS.<br />
<br />
“Issues of corruption in the NDDC have become endemic. It was as a result of these complaints, that Mr. President, promptly and courageously appointed the IMC, to supervise the forensic audit which he had also set up, to investigate all the alleged corrupt practices that had been perpetuated in the commission, before a board will be inaugurated for the commission.<br />

“Any attempt to distract from Mr. President’s directive that forensic audit of the NDDC should be carried out is unacceptable to the people of the Niger Delta. We are solidly behind Mr. President in this his directive.<br />
<br />
“Therefore, Mr. Senate President, and the Right Honourable Speaker, if nothing is done, and urgently too, to investigate these grievous allegations leveled against these members and by extension the National Assembly, I must say that it will erode the confidence people, especially, Niger Deltans, have on the National Assembly.”

<b>UEFA has banned Turkey’s Trabzonspor from its club competitions for one year for failing to meet the financial targets.</b><br />
<br />
The European football’s governing body said this on Wednesday.<br />
<br />
“The CFCB [UEFA Club Financial Control Body] Adjudicatory Chamber has now determined that Trabzonspor AS failed to meet the target fixed for the 2019 financial year,” UEFA said.<br />
<br />
UEFA monitors clubs financially to make sure they are not spending more money than they earn, a measure created to help teams avoid financial problems in the long-term.<br />

<br />
The Financial Fair Play (FFP) criteria involve break-even targets, sporting measures and financial contributions.<br />
<br />
UEFA stated that Trabzonspor will be barred from one UEFA competition in 2020/21 or 2021/22 football seasons once the Turkish team qualifies for the UEFA Champions League or Europa League.<br />
<br />
It added that in July 2019, the CFCB determined that the club “failed to be break-even compliant as required by a settlement agreement, which it entered into on 20 May 2016”.<br />
<br />
The UEFA’s financial authority said that it previously informed Trabzonspor that it would face a one season ban in the upcoming term if they couldn’t meet the financial target for last year.

Tunde Alabi was accused of beating his son, Ezekiel to a coma on Sunday.<br />
<br />
The four-year-old boy was said to have excreted on his body and Alabi beat him severely, inflicting multiple injuries on him.<br />

The Igando Divisional Police Officer, Taiwo Kasumu, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) confirmed Alabi’s arrest.<br />

Nigeria recorded just one death in 24 hours out of its coronavirus caseload as 348 new cases were announced by NCDC Wednesday night.<br />
<br />
The lone death was a departure from the trend in the last few days where at least 2 digit deaths were recorded.<br />
<br />
Fourteen people for instance died overnight between Saturday and Sunday. Twelve were reported dead on Monday and 15 on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
The death toll is now 315, out of the national confirmed cases of 11, 166.<br />

Those discharged were 90, taking the national figure to 3329.<br />
<br />
Lagos and the Federal capital of Abuja shared the greater portion of the new 348 cases.<br />
<br />
Lagos has a disproportionate 163 cases, while the FCT got 76.<br />
<br />
The FCT has consistently the past five days registered two digits of infections.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It was 52 on Saturday, 48 on Sunday, 14 on Monday and 13 on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Rivers State and Ebonyi showed up strong in the grim chart on Tuesday, with 23 and 21 cases.<br />
<br />

Nollywood actress, Sharon Jatto has publicly called out a movie producer Victor Okpalan who she claims demands sex in exchange for roles.<br />
<br />
In reaction to the ongoing outrage against rapists and rape apologists in Nigeria, Sharon slammed the producer for posting the hashtag; ”Say No to Rape”.<br />
<br />
She claimed that Okpalan auditions young girls to hunt whilst recounting her experience with him at the age of 17.<br />

The Kogi State Government on Wednesday accused the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control of bringing machines that had been programmed to record positive Covid-19 cases only to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.<br />
<br />
A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said sample collection materials had been infected with Covid-19.<br />
<br />

“Our people should be careful in accessing health care at FMC, Lokoja for now. The institution has become an incubation point for breeding false Covid-19 cases.<br />
<br />
“Both the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC are not trusted and we have every reason not to ever believe their commercial efforts against Covid-19,” the commissioner said.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the state government has created mobile courts to try violators of the lockdown order in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.<br />
<br />
The lockdown came on the heels of last week’s confirmation of two cases of Covid-19 by the NCDC.<br />
<br />
A statement on Wednesday by Fanwo, stated that the decision to lock down the council was to ensure effective containment of the purported outbreak of Covid-19 in the council.<br />
<br />
The commissioner urged the people to fully comply with the lockdown the rules as violators would be arrested and tried by the mobile courts deployed in different parts of the council.<br />
<br />
“We urge our people to persevere and obey all the rules of the lockdown which are in their best interest. We shall overcome this phase and come out stronger as a people,” he said.

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has said any resident who fails to wear face mask will be fined N10,000.<br />

The governor stated this in a statewide broadcast.<br />

He warned traders to keep to the COVID-19 rules or he would shut down market again.<br />

He said, “We have 69 individuals on home quarantine and two individuals in the facility-based quarantine.<br />

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday announced partial reopening of religious centres in the state.<br />
<br />
This is just as the Kwara State Government directed that worship centres be reopened on Friday, but barring old people, children and women from attending services.<br />

Oyetola explained that the partial reopening of worship centres was in response to the request by religious leaders.<br />
<br />
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, said, “The state government has prepared some guidelines that must be followed in order to forestall possible spread of the virus as a result of the reopening.”<br />
<br />
The guidelines included the directive that only regular church services of not more than one hour, and maximum of two services would be allowed, and that Jumat service including sermon and prayers must not exceed 20 minutes.<br />
<br />
“Vulnerable individuals such as those from age 65 and above and people with underlying ailments such as tuberculosis, diabetes, among others, are to continue worshipping at their respective homes.<br />
<br />
“All church and mosques premises be fumigated to ensure that the worship environments are free of virus and other infectious diseases.<br />
<br />
In Kwara, the Deputy Governor, who is the chairman of the COVID-19 Technical Committee, said that the religious houses can reopen.<br />
<br />
He said, “Government, however, warned that the concession for churches and mosques to reopen does not mean that the state has flattened the curve of transmission of COVID-19.<br />
<br />
He said, “In line with the presidential advisory and the positions of our religious umbrella bodies in Kwara State, worship centres in Kwara State may reopen from June 5.<br />
<br />
“Worship centres shall be organised in such a way that one attendant is at least one metre away from the next.<br />
<br />
“Each worship centre shall make provisions for hand washing or hand sanitisers, and infrared thermometer Wearing of face masks shall be mandatory for all worshippers.

A Kaduna State High Court sitting in Dogarawa Sabon Gari in Zaria on Wednesday sentenced one Usman Shehu Bashir to death by hanging for raping a two-year-old girl to death.<br />

The Presiding Judge, Justice Kabir Dabo, said the convict had confessed to committing the offence, adding that relying on Section 221of the Penal Code, he was sentencing him to death by hanging.<br />

The case started on the 23 March 2015 and lasted for five years.<br />

Justice Dabo said, “On the fateful day, the convict took the late Fatima to his room and for about 40 minutes, he raped her which led to her death.”
