Yet, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not take steps capable of threatening Nigeria’s corporate existence.<br /> <br /> “Curiously too, in a State like Yobe where it was established that the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abu Zarma received N15 million bribe from the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Zakari Deba to influence the State Governorship election, the tribunal did not nullify the election,” he said.<br /> <br /> The governor called on President Buhari to, in the overall interest of Nigeria, tread cautiously in his bid to consolidate power and prepare ground for his possible re-election bid.<br /> <br /> Governor Fayose, who reminded the President of the wild, wild west of the mid 60s and the 1983 saga between late Chief Adekunle Ajasin and Chief Akin Omoboriowo, which was orchestrated by the then Federal Government, said: “the consequences of the orchestrated plot to prevent the people of Western Region from having the government of their choice through a fair and just election in 1964 should be a watchful example for Nigerians in general and President Buhari in particular.”<br /> <br /> He appealed to the people of the South-south not to be intimidated and discouraged, expressing hope that the appellate court will protect the wish of the people of Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.<br /> <br /> “Governors Wike and Udom, as well as the teeming supporters of our party, PDP in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States should not be deterred and discouraged as I am sure that by the special grace of God, they will laugh last,” the governor said.

He said that the tribunal had 7 days to deliver its judgment, but chose to do so in less than two days.<br /> <br /> In its judgment, Justice Suleiman Ambrosa ruled that the card reader accreditation was vital to the election and the votes recorded. He said that the press statement issued by INEC on the matter supercedes the Electoral Act as the card reader was a new introduction thar was aimed to promote transparency.<br /> <br /> He said on the balance of probability, he is inclined to belive the petitioner witnesses ahead of the witnesses of the Respondents.<br /> <br /> The tribunal declared that testimonies of the 56 witnesses called by the petitioner were enough to cover the entire state of 5972 polling units and points.<br /> <br /> Justice Ambrosa declared that the documents tendered by APC which the party failed to lead evidence in court were not dumped on it. He however, said that the documents tendered by the Respondents were dumped on it and it would not attach weight to them.

Constant threats, intimidation and coercing of witnesses against the PDP in the tribunals.</b><br /> <b><br /></b><b>5. The recent mass transfer of security operatives, especially the DSS and police personnel that actually participated in the conduct of the elections in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, ostensibly to frustrate the course of genuine evidences in the process.</b><br /> <br /> “The bias in the judgment against the PDP in Rivers as well as Akwa-Ibom is evidenced in the contradictions inherent in the trial process of the two cases and the verdicts therein, whereby the tribunals clearly disregarded standing legal norm that a petitioner must establish prove of claims.<br /> <br /> “Also curious is the fact that after both the petitioner and respondent agreed before the tribunal that both card reader and manual accreditations were used for the election, the tribunal still went ahead to base its decision on issues of card reader.<br /> <br /> While it is convenient to them to use legal technicalities to deny PDP victory in Imo, Lagos, Ogun and Yobe states, the same rules are misapplied to wickedly favour APC petitioners in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states.<br /> <br /> “It is therefore evinced that these contradictions are direct fall-out of compromises as well as boasts by the APC of being in direct and remote control of the tribunals. If not, how can one explain the fact that while governorship elections are being upturned in PDP states, in APC states, where similar claims and facts are in contention, elections are being upheld.<br /> <br /> “Further proof of bias by the Rivers tribunal is the fact that less than 24 hours after various counsels submitted nine written addresses and documents, the tribunal rushed its notice of judgment, an action ostensibly aimed at ambushing the pending Supreme Court action on the issue of jurisdiction regarding the relocation of the tribunal outside River state, which was due to be delivered on Tuesday.<br /> <br /> “This is not withstanding the fact that the tribunal has up to seven days after of receipt of addresses, to deliver its judgment, but chose instead, to rush to deliver this spurious verdict even on a Saturday, a development eliciting suspicion that the judgment may have since been predetermined and written even before the commencement of the case.<br /> <br /> “The PDP calls on all Nigerians and the international community to note this growing manipulation of the judiciary by the APC government, a factor which portends great danger to our democracy and the stability of our country.<br /> <br /> “Nigerians would want to recall that under the PDP-led government with former President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment to the tenets of democracy as encapsulated in the safeguard of ‘one man one vote’ and the independence of the judiciary, the PDP conceded electoral defeat in Edo, Anambra, and Imo states without attempting to collect victory through executive manipulation of the judicial process.<br /> <br /> “The PDP restates unequivocally that this judgments must not stand in view of the prevailing inherent contradictions, in addition to the huge threat they portend to our democracy and national stability.<br /> <br /> “Finally, the PDP charges all lovers of democracy, particularly our members in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom state not to be daunted, as these judgments will not stand the test of the law and the will of the people. We counted 28 dead bodies apart from the two bombers, who were identifiable by the mutilation of their bodies,” said Sani.<br /> <br /> “Over 20 other people were injured.”<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Abdulkadir Ibrahim, spokesman for the National Relief Agency, put the death toll at six.He said 17 others were injured.<br /> <br /> Hospital sources put the death toll at 19.<br /> <br /> A member of the local vigilance group who took part in the evacuation of the dead said there appeared to be only one suicide bomber though “we all heard two explosions.”<br /> <br /> Sani and Sheriff said two other people were arrested and handed over to the military for questioning after they were seen apparently celebrating following the blasts.<br /> <br /> The two men were “standing from afar, hugging each other like a celebration, chanting “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest)”, said Sani.<br /> <br /> “To them it was a mission accomplished,” added Sheriff.<br /> <br /> Nine hours later , another suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED at the Jambutu Hajj camp mosque in Yola soon after the Imam finished his sermon.<br /> <br /> State Police Commissioner Gabriel Adaji said eight worshippers were killed.<br /> <br /> Other sources put the death toll at 27.<br /> <br /> One volunteer at the scene, who helped in the rescue effort but asked not to be identified, said: “This mosque is newly built and this was the first Jumat in it.<br /> <br /> “While worshippers had risen for the prayers to start after the sermon by the imam, there was a huge blast in the premises.”<br /> <br /> NEMA’s coordinator in the Adamawa state capital, Sa’ad Bello said 116 people were being treated for injuries at two hospitals in the city.<br /> <br /> Most of the injured were in a stable condition, with injuries ranging from fractures and burns to cuts from the blast, he added.<br /> <br /> Yola has been seen as a relatively safe haven from the Boko Haram insurgency, which has ravaged the northeast for the last six years.<br /> <br /> But fears were heightened after an explosive device went off at a camp for displaced people to the south of the city last month, killing seven people and injuring 20 more.<br /> <br /> Boko Haram’s suicide bombers also attacked worshippers at mosques in Maiduguri last week.<br /> <br /> Overall,Maiduguri has been hit six times this month alone by Boko Haram insurgents.<br /> <br /> Its fighters also attacked targets in Abuja and Kogi State recently.<br /> <br /> This week, the police warned that the group was now building bombs within electronic devices like tablets, phones, and laptops, then leaving them for unsuspecting Nigerians to pick up.<br /> <br /> The police issued the warning after the arraignment on Thursday of five suspects connected with a double bombing in Nigeria’s capital that killed 18 people on Oct. 2.<br /> <br /> The defendants were charged with conspiracy and acts of terrorism at the Federal High Court in Abuja.<br /> <br /> The case was adjourned until a further hearing on November 17.

Maina is on the run after the EFCC filed charges against him for stealing billions of pension funds through a phony biometric exercise alongside former Head of Service of the Federation, Steve Oronsaye.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Sources at the EFCC disclosed that the two bankers, Danjuma Zubairu, group head, private banking and Abubarkar Gwambe, an account officer, in the Abuja Central Business District business unit of the bank, were arrested on Thursday following fresh evidence that they are managing proxy accounts for the fugitive.<br /> <br /> The accounts, which have over time witnessed massive inflow of slush funds include two corporate and three individual accounts. The first individual account opened in the name of Abdullahi Faizer, had a turnover of N1.5billion while the other operated in the name of Nafisatu Aliyu recorded a turnover of over N100,000.<br /> <br /> The corporate accounts of Cluster Logistics had a turnover of N500million and $400,000 USD. Drew Investment and Construction and Kongolo Dynamics Cleaning Limited recorded turnovers of N54million and N509million respectively. All five accounts have different opening packages. Four of the accounts were allegedly opened by one Khalid Aliyu, a relation of Maina, who was an employee of the bank.<br /> <br /> The said Khalil is currently at large. But investigation established that Abdulrasheed Maina is the one operating the accounts. Competent sources in the anti-graft agency disclosed that this nexus was established through detailed analysis of telephone text messages and email communication between Maina and the bank officials.<br /> <br /> The bulk of the monies, it was gathered, had been moved through some Bureau de Change operators,who convert them into dollars and then transfer to Maina in his hideout, believed to be United Arab Emirates.<br /> <br /> The EFCC has been on the trail of Maina for a number of years.<br /> <br /> Before the agency filed charges against him in absentia, it arrested the woman, who served as secretary to Maina during his reign as the chairman of the controversial PRTT, during which billions of pension funds reportedly disappeared from the treasury.<br /> <br /> Ann Igwe, who was a confidant of Maina, was grilled by the agency and she allegedly made useful confessions on how the biometric contract allegedly awarded to streamline pension administration under Maina actually became a conduit for stealing pension fund.

We gathered that the development, which is currently, not just flushing out members of the cell from Abuja, has also sent sympathizers of the sect into panic.<br /> <br /> Security sources, who spoke to newsmen in Okene, Kogi State, on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorize to speak on the matter, disclosed that several member of the cell, based in Abuja are returning in their droves to Okene, adding that some of the suspects were arrested, while others have been forced to escape and relocate to neighboring states.<br /> <br /> However, sources at the Force Headquarters Abuja, disclosed that the operation to effectively dismantle the Boko Haram, from Okene Kogi State, operating in Abuja, became imperative after the multiple bomb attacks on Kuje police Station and Nyaya areas of Abuja.<br /> <br /> It was gathered that the exhibits and intelligence gathered from the scene of the explosion, were transferred to the highly trained operatives SIRT deployed by the IGP to apprehend the culprit. It was gathered that, the operatives from SIRT, trailed two of the suspects, identified as Abdulazeez Muhazab and Ishiaka Salihu, to a house in Karmajiri, behind Military Area, Cemetery, off Airport Road, Abuja, recovering several explosives, detonators, chemicals in both liquid and powder form used for making bombs and several other ready made bombs. The suspects also, mentioned one Haulaki in military custody and one Hamza, as their leaders in Abuja.<br /> <br /> It was further gathered that Haulaki, who is also known as, Abdulwaheed Nasiru, was handed over to the police and during interrogations, he confessed and disclosed the addresses of three houses within Abuja and Suleija Niger State, where they produced and store explosives. The operatives and on the strength of this confession, proceeded to Gauaraka area in Suleja, Niger State, Iddo Village off Airport road, Abuja and at Dan Asato area of Suleja, where five ready made IEDS, Chemicals used for bomb making, detonator, HP laptop, two books on several chemicals and engineering materials, An Ipad, loaded with IED, plate number of a car, scale, digital multimeter and a knife were recovered. It was gathered that the Haulaki, also led the operatives to Galadima area where tangible information were gathered.<br /> <br /> When journalists interviewed, Haulaki, he confessed that he was a native of Okene, Kogi State.<br /> <br /> “I am married and my wife is currently pregnant. I had just primary education which I did not finish. I am an Igbira man and my people are mainly Muslims. I came to Abuja seven years ago to learn auto mechanic at Games Village and I graduated four years after, before establishing my own workshop at Galadimawa Roundabout.<br /> <br /> “In 2013, I joined the Boko Haram, there is the mosque along the road before Total Fillings Station, in Aiyoke area of Okene, Kogi State. Though I rented an apartment very close to the mosque and one of the sons of the landlord of that house, who is my friend, Abubakar, who was killed during operation visited that mosque and he introduced me to the Imam and the owner of the mosque, Mustapha who is currently in the custody of security agents.<br /> <br /> “Mustapha was the one who indoctrinated me into the Boko Haram sect. He urged me through his teachings which were mainly on Fridays after the Jumat prayers, Saturdays and Sundays to be faithful to God and do his wishes and I should also oppose those going against the teachings of Prophet Muhammed.<br /> <br /> “Mustapha usually urged us to support the cause of Jihad in the North Eastern part of the country in any way we can and when we cannot donate ourselves or money to the cause, we should at least pray for those waging the war. In some of his teachings, he told us that western education was a sin and working for the government was also a sin. He then asked those who have gone through secondary and university education to destroy their certificate.<br /> <br /> “A lot of people, who were graduates from the secondary and university in that mosque, destroyed their certificates. That singular gesture endeared me to the sect. Aside Abubakar, I met some other young men, like , Usman , Abduljalal, Abu Hamza, Bilal and Haron.<br /> <br /> “These men were highly devoted to the course and they told me that they usually rob unbelievers and use the money to support the course. Abu Hamza is our leader and also one of the bomb manufacturer. He was the one who led us to rob two banks in Owo, Ondo State and Okene in Kogi State, and it is through that means that he raised money for bomb materials and others.<br /> <br /> “He was the one who also thought Usman how to make the bombs. I am a very good driver and my duty is to drive vehicles to various destinations. I usually don’t ask if there is bomb in those vehicles or not all I do is to follow instruction.<br /> <br /> “A few months ago, some security agents came from Kaduna and arrested Abu Hamza and took him away. Few days to the Sallah, Usman was also arrested in Abuja and I got instructions from very senior members of our sect to move all the ready made bombs and the materials out of Usman’s house in Suleja and I moved them to my brother’s house who is also a member of our sect at Iddo area of Abuja.<br /> <br /> “I also gave, two Ak-47 rifles and some bombs to a senior member, Abu Husssien who took them to Okene, Kogi State. Few days before the last sallah some vigilante men arrested and handed me over to the military intelligence who detained and later handed me over to the police special team. I regret joining the Boko Haram Sect,” he lamented.
