I’m not under probe - Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has faulted the impression being created in the media that his administration would be probed by the committee set up by the House of Representatives to look into how the budget allocated to the State House Medical Centre since 2015 was spent.<br />

He said he had nothing to do with the 2015 Budget before he handed over power to President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 of the same year.<br />
<br />
He therefore said there was no way his administration would be included in the expected probe of allocations to the clinic.<br />
<br />
Jonathan stated this in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, in Abuja on Saturday.<br />
<br />
The statement read, “The House of representatives resolved Thursday 12 October, 2015, to probe 2015-2017 allocations to Aso Rock Clinic and some media reports are needlessly dragging the name of former President Goodluck Jonathan into it.<br />
<br />
“We had thought that the media should be the first to remind Nigerians that since Jonathan left office on May 29, 2015, he had absolutely nothing to do with the implementation of the budget for that year.<br />
<br />
“For emphasis, the 2015 Appropriation Bill which was passed by the parliament in April was signed into law in May, 2015.<br />
<br />
“And since the procurement process, based on the new procurement law, takes at least three months to complete, there was no way Jonathan would have had anything to do with the budget implementation for 2015, before vacating Aso Rock Villa on May 29, 2015.”<br />
<br />
Eze said going by the way some people make insinuations on issues that bordered on the development in country, it would appear as if Jonathan had been in office since independence and probably still ruling.<br />
<br />
“We expect media houses to always do proper investigations to avoid the convenient choice of always using Jonathan as the scapegoat for the misdeeds of others,” he added.

Crystal Palace deservedly claimed a first Premier League win of the season with a 2-1 victory over champions Chelsea at Selhurst Park.<br />

Palace received a stroke of luck in scoring their first league goal in five months, ending a drought of 731 minutes stretching back to last season.<br />
<br />
The scruffy strike was recorded as a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal, but Palace had one of their own when the excellent Wilfried Zaha struck before half-time as Palace won for the first time this season at the eighth attempt.<br />
<br />
Chelsea, who had equalised through Tiemoue Bakayoko, had been seeking to respond from the loss to Manchester City ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Roma. The Blues are now nine points behind leaders City after a poor performance.<br />
<br />
Palace, who won at Chelsea in April, had not scored a league goal since Patrick van Aanholt's last-minute strike in the 4-0 win over Hull on May 14.<br />
<br />
Their dismal start to the season was expected to continue against the champions, but the return of Zaha from injury galvanised his team-mates.<br />
<br />
Andros Townsend had a spring in his step alongside Zaha and the pair tormented the Chelsea defence throughout.<br />
<br />
Townsend early on found Zaha, who turned away from Azpilicueta before seeing his shot saved by Thibaut Courtois.<br />
<br />
The only surprise when Palace scored was that Zaha was not a central protagonist. Townsend snuck in behind Marcos Alonso and pulled the ball back for Yohan Cabaye.<br />
His attempt to control the ball was interrupted by Luiz, it ricocheted back off the Frenchman and wrong-footed Courtois by deflecting off Azpilicueta.<br />
<br />
The joy and relief was soon followed by wit. "We're Crystal Palace, we score when we want," sang home supporters.<br />
<br />
The celebrations were short lived. A Cesc Fabregas corner was met by Bakayoko, who lost his marker and headed the ball into the ground and the net for his first Premier League goal.<br />
Palace, and Zaha, would not roll over. Zaha ran at Chelsea and his shot deflected wide.<br />
The Blues had another good chance when Michy Batshuayi - given an opportunity with Alvaro Morata kept in reserve for Roma due to his fragile hamstring - headed over a corner from Fabregas, who later fired a free-kick narrowly over.<br />

The visitors were left to rue the miss when Mamadou Sakho epitomised the difference in the first half. Sakho showed desire to beat Willian to the ball and composure to find Zaha, who finished expertly.<br />
<br />
Victor Moses went off early in the second half as a hamstring injury appeared to impair another Chelsea player after N'Golo Kante and Morata.<br />
<br />
Fabregas hit the crossbar with a 25-yard strike before Pedro was sent on for Batshuayi, who showed frustration at being withdrawn after a rare start.<br />
<br />
Julian Speroni twice saved from Pedro and once from Alonso.<br />
Charly Musonda, on for Willian, had a glorious chance, but, after controlling Fabregas' lofted pass on his chest, fired over.<br />
<br />
Palace had opportunities for a third as they finished on the attack. Zaha tried to seize upon a mix-up between Bakayoko and Luiz, Townsend had an effort saved by Courtois, who was relieved to see the follow up sent wide by Van Aanholt.<br />

Flying winger Zaha injured his right knee during the opening-day defeat to Huddersfield Town and has been powerless as Palace lost their opening seven league matches without scoring a goal.<br />
<br />
Another defeat to nil would have set an unwanted English league record at nine, including one at the end of last season, but Selhurst Park erupted early on when an Andros Townsend cross crept past Thibaut Courtois via a combination of Yohan Cabaye and Cesar Azpilicueta.<br />
<br />
Tiemoue Bakayoko was given the freedom of the Palace area to head home his first Premier League goal and level the scores, but the influential Zaha – who was a menace throughout – restored Palace's lead shortly before the break with a cool finish.<br />
<br />
An inevitable second-half barrage arrived from Chelsea and Cesc Fabregas lashed an effort against the crossbar, but Palace clung on for a priceless victory.<br />
It marks another disappointment for Antonio Conte, whose side were beaten 1-0 at home by Manchester City last time out and the Blues now trail Pep Guardiola's league leaders by nine points.<br />
Palace remain bottom of the table, seven points adrift of 17th, but the return of Zaha will give Roy Hodgson – who tasted victory as Palace boss for the first time – renewed optimism.<br />
<br />
Zaha provided Palace with fresh attacking impetus and he forced Courtois into an early save after collecting Townsend's low left-wing cross and turning Gary Cahill in the area.<br />
<br />
The wait for a goal was over in the 11th minute. James McArthur cleverly slipped a pass to Townsend, whose drilled cross ricocheted off Cabaye's knee under a challenge from David Luiz and clipped Azpilicueta before squirming past Courtois.<br />
<br />
Palace's frailties were exposed with startling ease just seven minutes later, though, as Cesc Fabregas fired in a corner from the right that Bakayoko headed in unmarked for his first Premier League goal.<br />
Zaha lashed an effort past the left post, while more poor marking at a corner led to Michy Batshuayi – deputising for the injured Alvaro Morata in one of four Chelsea changes – heading wastefully over the crossbar.<br />

Chelsea then lost Victor Moses to a hamstring injury before their misery increased on the stroke of half-time.<br />
<br />
Mamadou Sakho powered deep into Chelsea's half and fed Zaha, who brilliantly jinked inside Azpilicueta before placing his shot across Courtois into the bottom-right corner.<br />
<br />
Chelsea upped the tempo early in the second half and Fabregas' stinging 25-yard drive beat veteran goalkeeper Julian Speroni – playing in place of the injured Wayne Hennessey – but rattled the bar.<br />
The visitors continued to create the better second-half chances and Marcos Alonso looped a header over from Willian's corner just after the hour before Pedro's long-distance drive was saved by Speroni.<br />
<br />
Palace should have put the game to bed in the closing stages when Courtois spilled Townsend's 25-yard effort, but Patrick van Aanholt somehow drilled wide on the follow up with the goal gaping.<br />
It almost proved a costly miss as Sakho recklessly tried to backheel out of danger against Charly Musonda, but thankfully for a raucous home crowd Fabregas drilled wide.

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">However, Kachikwu yesterday broke his silence and spoke on the outcome of his meeting with President Buhari. He spoke to newsmen at the end of a three-day Nigerian content workshop organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board in Imo.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">According to him, President Buhari asked him to go back and continue to work with Baru so as to clear any doubt and rift. He also added that his petition was misunderstood by many Nigerians. </div>

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Saturday swore in five new commissioners to the State Executive Council.<br />

The commissioners, who had been screened by the State House of Assembly, took their oath of office before thousands of supporters at the Coronation Hall, Government House.<br />
<br />
Ganduje congratulated all the new commissioners on their appointment and asked them not to betray the trust of the people.<br />

He advised them to always reflect on their oath of office and treat all citizens of the state equally.<br />
<br />
Ganduje advised them to come up with innovative ideas that would help develop the state.<br />
<br />
The appointment of the newly sworn-in members of the state executive followed the cabinet re-shuffle of which five out of the 14 commissioners were dropped.<br />

He said a lot of the support had to come from alumni of the universities as well as the private sector.<br />

According to a copy of his speech made available to journalists on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice-President spoke at the Distinguished Alumni Awards and celebration of University of Lagos at 55 held in Lagos on Friday.<br />
<br />
He said great universities all over the world are run by alumni and the private sector.<br />
<br />
“Just as the pro-chancellor pointed out, government alone cannot support universities to the extent that is required, to keep them even at the current levels.<br />
<br />
“A lot will have to come from the Alumni and the private sector. That’s how great universities all over the world are run.<br />
<br />
“I am so excited to see that our fundraising project is one that has clearly shown the way to go with respect to developing our University,” the Vice-President.<br />
<br />
Osinbajo, himself an alumnus of UNILAG, said the university had proved many times that it is not only a university of first choice but also the University of firsts.<br />
<br />
He cited examples of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; and his counterpart in the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, who he said recorded firsts in their careers.<br />
<br />
He noted that while Olukoya was the first to clone genes, Adeboye is the first Nigerian to get a PhD in a Nigerian university in Applied Mathematics.<br />
<br />
He said, “I want to say that UNILAG has proved time and time again to be not just a university of first-choice but also the University of firsts! So many firsts in different areas; just reading about Dr. Olukoya, he was the first to clone genes.<br />
<br />
“Hardly anyone would know that the pastor and founder of Mountain of Fire and Miracles was also the first to clone genes. That is an absolutely outstanding thing.<br />
<br />
“The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was also the first Nigerian to get a PhD in a Nigerian university in Applied Mathematics.<br />
<br />
“I think that there are so many other firsts, but the most important thing today is to ensure that those firsts do not become the last.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">”The committee submitted its report in September and it was brought to the Federal Executive Council. One of the recommendations was that the government should look into the abuse of private practice in the health sector and set up an expanded committee.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">”The role of professional ethics allows a doctor to do private practice outside of his official working hours, but the 1999 Constitution does not allow anyone to do private practice apart from farming.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“I called for further investigations, pulled the CCTV cameras from the General Hospital, only to discover that it was Davido’s escort Hilux van, his driver, his friends that brought Tagbo Umeike (the deceased) dead and dumped in the hospital then fled the scene.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Imohimi said the response by Davido raises suspicion, and that was what was being investigated by the police.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“That raises curiosity and of course that’s what we are investigating, and that was why I ordered that the matter be moved to outstate CID at Yaba for proper investigation and of course, we will duplicate the case file and forward to DPP, Ministry of Justice for legal advise, ” he said.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Federal Government had asked the NPA to void the boats pilotage agreement it had with Intels.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had explained that the contract was void from the beginning and was reported to have relayed the government’s decision to the Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Usman, in a letter dated September 27.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The NPA said it relied on the advice of the AGF in arriving at the decision to terminate the contract.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">NPA’s statement was signed by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Abdullahi Goje, where it maintained that it sought the legal advice after more than one year of attempts to get Intels to comply with the directive on the TSA.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The statement said, “The first of such correspondence was through a letter written by the former Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Olumide Oduntan, on June 28, 2016 directing the company to pay all revenues collected on behalf of the NPA into the TSA sub account at the CBN.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“All further attempts by the Authority to get the company to obey this directive were met with various excuses until the Authority wrote to seek the AGF’s legal advice on how to proceed with the NPA/ Intels relationship in a letter dated May 31, 2017.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The NPA explained further that the legal advice contained in a September 27, 2017 letter addressed to Usman, by Malami, expressly stated that the agreement for the monitoring and supervision of pilotage districts in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Nigeria permits Intels to receive revenue generated in each pilotage district from service boat operations.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">It said that this was in consideration for 28 per cent of total revenue as commission to Intels was void, “being a contract ex facie illegal as formed for permitting Intels to receive Federal Government revenue.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The NPA said that this was “contrary to the express provisions of Sections 80 (1 ) and 162(1 ) and (10) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandates that such revenue must be paid into the Federation Account /Consolidated Revenue Fund.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Dr Olubunmi Omojowolo, Chairman of Lagos State chapter of the association, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Omojowolo said that though the law did not permit doctors in public hospitals to own private hospitals, they could however, offer specialised services to private hospitals when required.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Actually, this is not new; the law does not permit doctors who are working in public hospitals to own private hospitals.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“However, the application has to be properly defined; when talking about private practice by doctors in public hospitals, the government has to explain exactly what it is talking about.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Are you saying that specialists working for government cannot be invited by private hospitals when they have emergency or need a specialist in that area to see the patient?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Are you saying that all patients that require specialist care who are admitted in private hospitals will have to be moved to public hospitals?,’’ he said.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The chairman said that it was practice all over the world that specialists could be invited to either a public or private health institution to help sort out medical issues.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“For instance, I am a neurologist; how many neurologists do we have in the country.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“We do not have many of them and there are cases that need neurologists’ intervention and other cases like that.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Are they going to be transferring all patients to public hospitals which are short-staffed and cannot even take care of the patients they already have?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“Consequent upon this, there is need for government to define what it is saying so that it will be understood by everybody.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“This will go a long way to remove ambiguities and misinterpretations that the proposal has so far generated,’’ Omojowolo said.</div>

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted he did not disrespect Tottenham Hotspur, saying Mauricio Pochettino made a “mistake” when criticising him.<br />

Pochettino was furious after Guardiola referred to Chelsea, Manchester United and the “Harry Kane team,” when he was talking about City’s Premier League title rivals before the international break.<br />

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State of diverting N680m from the state’s coffers to a private fixed deposit account, which was yielding N6m interest every month.<br />

The N680m was alleged to have been part of the bailouts paid to the state government by the Federal Government for the payment of salary and pension arrears, according to the EFCC’s preliminary investigation into the matter.<br />
<br />
The anti-graft agency also asked the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Toyin Ojo, and the Accountant-General, Yemisi Owolabi, to report back to the commission’s head office in Abuja next week.<br />
<br />
Owolabi and Ojo had spent about 12 days in the custody of the anti-graft agency after allegedly refusing to honour its invitation in the past. They were arrested for their alleged roles in the diversion of the bailout .<br />
<br />
According to the anti-graft agency, there is a reason to believe that the people of Ekiti State have been short-changed.<br />
<br />
The report states, “A total of N680m was diverted on January 25, 2016. The funds, comprising N200m from the Ekiti State Local Government salary account, N300m from the Ekiti State Pension Account and N180m from the Ekiti State FAAC Account, were first credited into the Consolidated Revenue Account in Zenith Bank on January 25, 2016, and later transferred on the same day into an account called – 2015 MDG-CGS state project – domiciled in Zenith Bank.<br />
<br />
“Analysis of the bank statement revealed that the money was later placed in a fixed deposit, where it was yielding a monthly interest of about N6m at a time pensioners and workers in Ekiti State were owed months of unpaid entitlements.”<br />
<br />
It was learnt that investigators were going through several documents to uncover the beneficiaries of the monthly interest on the fixed deposit.<br />
<br />
The report concluded, “The detained Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance and its Accountant-General committed to assisting the commission with relevant documents before they were granted administrative bail and ordered to report back in two weeks.”<br />
<br />
It was learnt that in the course of investigating alleged misapplication of the bailouts by the Fayose-led administration, especially the N1.7bn contract awarded to a Lebanese company, which later moved part of the money to allegedly purchase properties for Governor Fayose, investigators stumbled on evidence of diversion of funds meant for payment of state and local government employees and pensioners in Ekiti State.

The tariff payable by electricity consumers may increase by 61.5 per cent any time soon following the latest revelation by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on Friday that it was waiting for a final approval from the Federal Government before implementing the new rate.<br />

According to NERC, the actual tariff for one kilowatt-hour of power is meant to be N51, as against the current unit cost of N31.58 for which electricity distribution companies are selling the commodity.<br />
<br />
NERC explained that the actual tariff of N51/KWH was arrived at based on the economic fundamentals considered when carrying out minor tariff reviews, adding that the commission had completed the process for the new tariff but had yet to receive an approval from the Federal Government to announce its implementation.<br />
<br />
It disclosed this at a training programme in Abuja.<br />
<br />
On several occasions, power distributors had complained about the inappropriateness of the N31.58/KWH of energy, and alleged that they (Discos) bought the commodity at N68/KWH but were mandated by NERC to sell at a far lesser rate.<br />
<br />
“There is no way you can pay or remit the required amount that is needed from you as a Disco when you sell a product that is worth N68 for N31.58. It won’t work,” were the words of the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Mr. Sunday Oduntan, at a recent event in Abuja.<br />
<br />
When asked why NERC had mandated the Discos to continue selling power at N31.58/KWH, a development that had plunged the sector into a huge financial deficit, the NERC’s Principal Manager, Tariff and Rates, Aisha Mahmud, denied claims that the regulator forced the Discos to sell power at the reduced price.<br />
<br />
According to her, NERC is observing the market cautiously and is looking out for considerable improvement in power supply to consumers,<br />

She added that it had actually done a review and figured out that the feasible rate for electricity tariff should be N51/KWH.<br />
<br />
“We have done the review and it is the Federal Government that is to decide on whether to implement the N51 price for a kilowatt-hour or not, as against the N31/KWH that is being paid for the commodity presently. Once we get the approval from government, we will announce its implementation,” Mahmud said.<br />
<br />
Power distributors had argued that they were not remitting the amount required of them by the sector because the regulator mandated them to collect far less than the actual unit cost for a kilowatt-hour of electricity.<br />
<br />
They also released a report earlier this week in which ANEDs stated that the freeze on residential customers’ electricity tariff in the R2 class, smoothening of tariff across the country and changes to tariff assumptions, among other issues, had led to a power tariff deficit of N460bn in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.<br />
<br />
According to the report, the N460bn tariff shortfall was from January 2015 to December 2016, adding that the 2015 tariff deficit resulting from the freeze on R2 residential tariff and removal of collection losses from power distributors’ tariffs, which was reinstated in the Multi-Year Tariff Order of 2015, was N187bn.<br />
<br />
The R2 residential customer class consists of the largest group of electricity consumers who are mainly residents of various households across the country.<br />
<br />
ANEDs stated that the 2016 deficit resulting from tariff smoothening for about 10 years (2015 to 2024) was N277bn, adding that an additional 2016 tariff deficit resulting from changes to tariff assumptions was N46bn.

A coalition of agitators in the Niger Delta said yesterday that it has set off programmed attack troop to bring to a halt further oil exploration and exportation from the region, following the current NNPC outrage and scandalous revelation by the World Bank that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the financial institution to concentrate development in northern Nigeria.<br />

The groups – Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC and 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta, in a statement by WOI Izon Ebi, also expressed displeasure with the Federal Government over its purported delay strategies and calculated frustration with Operation Crocodile Smile II to put a damper on the implementation of the agreement reached with the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF.<br />
<br />
The statement read, “The current revelation of the World Bank and the present NNPC scandal has given us no choice but to activate our digital strike team to swing into action to stop further exploration and exportation of oil from the Niger Delta.”<br />
<br />
“For it is very obvious that this present administration is for the North only, without putting into cognizance that 90 per cent of the resources that sustain this nation is from the Niger Delta.”<br />
<br />
“We want to warn that this deliberate provocation and intimidation by the northern oppressors to provoke the Niger Delta people would be counterproductive because we are going to resist them with the last drop of our blood and a devastating response,” it said.<br />
<br />
The coalition emphasized its determination “to start attack on all oil infrastructures,” saying, “We would not allow our resources to be used to fund only the north and intimidate us, rather than developing the Niger Delta deprived of its God-given resources since 1958.”<br />
<br />
“The antics of their divide and rule tactics would never work again in the Niger Delta in this 21st century because the world and all honest Nigerians have seen the antics and tactics of the federal governments’ insensitivity and insincerity after the adoption of the 16-point agenda of PANDEF on the 3rd of August 2017.<br />
<br />
“It is still very fresh in our minds the betrayal of Isaac Boro to keep Nigerian one, the killing of Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni 9 and the dehumanization of their bodies with acid, the genocide in Odi, the genocide in Gbaramatu Kingdom,” the coalition asserted.<br />
<br />
Its words: “We the NDRC and the 21st Century Youths and all affiliate organizations are determined to prove to the world that we are not cowards. The present military operation called Operation Crocodile Smile II that is currently going on in the Niger Delta would not deter us neither would we be intimidated because the current agitators have succeeded in taking the struggle from analogue to digital.”<br />
<br />
The alliance added: “We have successfully proven to our oppressors before the ceasefire that we have the capacity to stop the flow of our God-given resources as our clamour and fight is for equity and justice.”<br />
<br />
It stated: “We have also succeeded in educating our brothers that we do not have any problem with the military because the military are victims of the northern political elite’ conspiracy because of our God-given resources.”<br />
<br />
The coalition, which had declared a ceasefire after the Federal Government and PANDEF met August 3 in Abuja, asserted: “We, therefore, want to warn the federal government that the deliberate provocation of the Operation Crocodile smile 2 in the Niger Delta is a waste of time.”<br />
<br />
“We know our targets and no Niger Delta youth of this 21st century would be seen in the old fashion. We want to use this medium to advise our elders and leaders of the Niger Delta that our generation called the 21st century would not make the mistake our fathers made that have portrayed them as cowards as if the Fulani and Islamic jihadists have conquered the Niger Delta.<br />
<br />
“We want to warn that the planned islamization and conqueror approach by this present government would be resisted with the last drop of our blood in this 21st century. We advise our brothers to be calm and steadfast and avoid any confrontation with the army because we the 21st century youths and other agitators have the ability to stop the flow of our oil in our backyards.<br />
<br />
“Our grievances and agitations are genuine and nobody can or would be able to intimidate us with whatever military operations because we already know their aims and objectives. We want to warn that we are closely watching their actions and inactions and would respond at the appropriate time as we still believe in the eminent members of the PANDEF that persuaded us to ceasefire for sincere dialogue, for lasting peace for the rich, but impoverished people of the Niger Delta,” the merger added.<br />
