It is common knowledge that the leg-workers of the APC and the AD have been going to markets, shops, offices and homes of residents in the state to collect their voter cards with the promise of bags of rice, tubers of yam and bunches of banana.<br /> <br /> “This is a clear indication of a desperate attempt by these perpetrators to buy up a non-existent popularity and reduce our people to mere articles of trade.”<br /> <br /> The party added that the voter cards obtained from the people were actually meant to rig the election through forced inducement of food items, and possibly, money.<br /> <br /> PDP therefore urged the people of the state not to yield to any temptation of giving out their voter cards to anyone, as the cards remain their power to decide on who becomes the next governor of Ondo State.<br /> <br /> It said “Please, turn down their Greek gifts of rice, yam and banana. Turn down their money meant to buy up your conscience. After they have won through the backdoor, God forbid, they will turn their back on you and start lining their pockets and feathering their nests.<br /> <br /> “The truth is: the money they are giving you will be doubled and even tripled if they win, leaving the masses impoverished and jobless and the infrastructure to decay,” the PDP counselled.

I repeat, nobody bribed any NCC official on that MTN fine issue, quote me.<br /> <br /> “NCC is a very responsible organisation under the able leadership of our Executive Vice Chairman, Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta. He has provided that quality leadership, which cascaded down to the least of the staff.<br /> <br /> “No NNC staff will ever take bribe. Challenge me if you see one. That allegation is not true. You read in the papers what MTN has done; they have paid some amount and they are to pay the rest in installments. So, that case is actually settled”, he said.<br /> <br /> On the usefulness of the customer/service providers/ agency’s interface being rendered by the town hall meeting, he said “it’s not true that NCC has not been doing anything about complaints arising from town hall meetings. We are not just here for jamborees.<br /> <br /> “Everything that is going on here is being recorded and we will play them back. We do a comprehensive report on every outing to the management and make recommendations. Some of these policies that you see being rolled out by NCC come out from reports from meetings like this”, he said.<br /> <br /> The high-point of the event, which was attended by customers of various networks, representatives of service provider companies, customer rights bodies and officials of the NCC, was the free interaction session, when many customers had the opportunity to air their feelings about the services some of the companies had been rendering.

He prayed the court to declare that the resolution passed by the House of Representatives suspending him was in breach of Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.<br /> <br /> He asked the court to restrain the House of Representatives from preventing him from. Participating in the committees of the House or accessing the legislative chambers to perform his legislative duties.<br /> <br /> Justice John Tsoho has fixed Nov.22 for hearing of the suit. Earlier, Tosho had struck out a suit filed by Jibrin, challenging his suspension from the House after his counsel Chukuma Nwachukwu asked for discontinuance.<br /> <br /> In the withdrawn suit, Jibril had attempted to stop the alleged plan by Dogara, Lasun and other principal officers to suspend him.

He said that the depot would be the largest in sub-Saharan Africa.<br /> <br /> Adebutu said the two projects would generate about 2,000 jobs and boost the socio-economic condition of the host state.<br /> <br /> Mr Henry Alakhume, Head of Corporate Banking at Wema Bank, said the bank was delighted to support the deal. “Wema Bank is proud to support Petrolex Group in the refinery and petroleum depot projects.<br /> <br /> “We believe this will significantly boost Nigeria’s economy and create much-needed jobs,” he said.<br /> <br /> Gov.  Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun assured Wema Bank and members of the consortium of his administration’s commitment to fully support the project.<br /> <br /> “We have the political will and we will support the project fully. You can be rest assured that I will get involved, when necessary, in order to ensure that the project is a success,” Amosun said.

What is obviously the problem, is not the fundamentals, it is the managing of the regime, so that people will have the confidence that we are indeed having a flexible exchange regime and also that we are closing the gap between the official and the parallel market rates, and that could only happen when we have liquidity within that segment.<br /> <br /> “The Central Bank decided not to sell forex to BDCs but there is no liquidity. What you said is for N470-490 to the dollar might be a very small volume in transactions but it does have the impact of creating the impression that it creates a huge gap. So if we could just provide liquidity to that segment and close that gap it will help a lot.<br /> <br /> “But in terms of where the naira is today, there is no need for any further devaluation as far as the fundamentals are concerned but we have to take steps to address confidence”, the Emir said.

When the governorship election appeal from my state, Ebonyi, came to the Court of Appeal, one Mr. Igwenyi, a senior staff member of the Federal Judicial Service Commission came to my chambers and told me that the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, had pleaded with him to convince me to see him, Onu.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> “I asked him to call Dr. Onu; he did and I wanted to know why he wanted to see me. He said it was confidential. I asked when he wanted to see me and he said he would like me to come in the evening.<br /> <br /> “I told Igwenyi that he would have to take me to Dr. Onu in his car and bring me back. I had wanted him to listen to what Dr. Onu had to say but when we arrived, Dr Onu put him in a different room.<br /> <br /> “He asked me whether I know the Hon. President of the Court of Appeal and I told him that His Lordship was my Presiding Justice in the Court of Appeal, Benin Division. He asked of my relationship with the PJA and I said it was cordial. He nodded his head several times in apparent satisfaction.<br /> <br /> “He told me the candidate of the Labour Party was ready to switch over to APC if he could help him win the appeal in the Court of Appeal and that in appreciation of the undertaking to come over to his party, he had obtained the services of three Justices of the Court of Appeal to ensure victory for the Labour Party.<br /> <br /> “He said he needed one to convince the PJA to include his three Justices of the Court of Appeal in the five-man panel to hear the appeal. I told him I would not help him and that I could not, in good conscience, convey such request even to a Customary Court Judge.<br /> <br /> “He was disappointed and asked me whether I knew the husband of the PJA. I told him I did not know the man. I bid him good night and left.<br /> <br /> “Igwenyi joined me in the passage and when he drove me back to my home, I told him what Dr. Onu wanted. Igwenyi apologised to me and assured me that he would not have bothered me if he had known what Dr. Onu wanted me to do.”<br /> <br /> The Justice of the apex court also alleged that the operatives of the DSS planted some amounts of money in his house during the raid on his home to incriminate him.<br /> <br /> He said apart from the $25,000, £10 and a brown envelope containing the sum of N710,000 which was a monthly allowance paid to him for September 2016 and another N300,000 and some loose change contained in the bag he usually took to the office, he had no explanation for the large sum of money allegedly recovered from his house.<br /> <br /> But he said he signed a document said to be containing the list of items recovered from his house under a life-threatening situation.

If you are suppressed as a minority (in Biafra) where do you cry to?” he said.<br /> <br /> The retired general said Biafra lost the war because the minorities in the then eastern region didn’t agree with the Igbo for a separate country because they were not sure that their future was secured in an Igbo-controlled nation.<br /> <br /> “I remember one Igbo leader who said, ‘Don’t worry the quarrel between the Igbo and the minorities is that between a husband and wife’. Oh, this place almost went into flame. Then it was asked, ‘Who is the husband and who is the wife?’ You see, the lack of trust is still there.”<br /> <br /> Mr. Akpan supports the call for restructuring of the Nigerian state, but not necessarily to go back to regionalism. It was time for the country to practice fiscal federalism, he said.<br /> <br /> “You can keep the existing states, so long as you are not going to create states every other year. There was a national conference that took care of the issue of restructuring. The report is available. Some real autonomy for the states. I may not accept state police because of abuse. The autonomy should be more on economic matters.”<br /> <br /> Mr. Akpan said the activities of Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants, and the Biafra agitators were indicators that all was not well with the country.<br /> <br /> He said what the Igbo want wasn’t really Biafra, but genuine integration into the Nigerian state, after the civil war. “They want to feel that an Igbo man can one day become the president of Nigeria.<br /> “They (Igbos) should seek whatever they want within the framework of the Nigerian state,” he said.<br /> <br /> He expressed confidence in the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to salvage the country.<br /> <br /> “I know he (Buhari) has integrity. I know he means well (for the country). The suffering that we see is temporary.<br /> <br /> “If he was not the president now, to plug a lot of loopholes that have been in place all along, the money we have been getting now would have been so small. If we had had a president who would have closed his eyes to corruption, it would have been much worse (than what we are seeing),” he said.

He left with the driver for about an hour before they came back.<br /> <br /> “Immediately the driver and I entered the vehicle to continue our journey, a car waylaid us. One of the occupants pointed a gun at me, forced me into the car and drove off. Lateef was among them. They later dropped me off near a bush after collecting my mobile phone,” Oluwasegun told the police.<br /> <br /> PUNCH Metro learnt that the case was reported at the Trinity Police Station and referred to the Special Ant-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, leading to the managers’ arrest.<br /> <br /> One of the suspects, Adeleke, said, “I don’t know anything about the robbery. I am a truck driver. Muyideen (Abdulhameed) told me that he rented out tankers. Mr. Adebayo met with me and said he needed a tanker to transport fuel to Ore. I introduced him to Muyideen and they discussed. He paid N100,000 in advance.”<br /> <br /> Abdulhameed, who is also a truck driver, said, “I don’t have any truck or tanker. The tanker in question is owned by Lateef and I rented it from him for that trip. When I was told that the tanker had been stolen, I immediately called him but he didn’t pick my calls. He later switched off his phone.<br /> <br /> “I don’t know where he lives. We met at a prison in Ogun State.”<br /> <br /> The two suspects were subsequently brought before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, on three counts bordering on conspiracy and robbery.<br /> <br /> The charges read in part, “That you, Muyideen Abdulhameed, Tunde Adeleke and others at large, on September 9, 2016, at about 7.30pm along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Ikeja Magisterial District, while armed with a gun and other weapons did kidnap one Shittu Oluwasegun, the escort in charge of a Daf tanker with number plate, AAA871XB, loaded with 33,000 litres of petrol, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 269 (1) and punishable under Section 269 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”<br /> <br /> The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.  Olanipekun, in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.<br /> <br /> The case was adjourned till November 17, 2016.

It is sad that my innocent brother was shot and the military authorities decided to cover it up.<br /> <br /> “I think the army should locate the actual persons responsible for the killing instead of covering up for its men.<br /> <br /> “Joseph brought out his identity card, but they still killed him. Is that how to treat even a criminal?<br /> <br /> “There is no cultists’ shrine in Okaki; the only shrine there is a traditional shrine and it is far from where my brother was killed.<br /> <br /> “The Rivers State Government is yet to contact my family since the incident occurred,” Reuben said, calling on the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the matter and ensure that Izu’s family got justice.</div>

Read the interview after th<br /> <br /> Yesterday, it was reported that Ali Nuhu said he thinks that the association might reconsider lifting the expulsion given to Rahama Sadau, is this statement a fact or not?<br /> <br /> Salisu:  We are not in that position now. We are not considering taking her back into the industry because we expelled her. We have instituted a committee to receive feedback from her fans and the producers that have outstanding job with her. She called yesterday(Wednesday) that she wants to have a meeting with the committee, and the committee granted her audience for the scheduled meeting just to hear what she has to say. So we formed the committee to listen to such feedback. But we are not in any way considering her to the industry.<br /> <br /> <b>After the meeting with your committee members, would there be chances that they would lift this ban or absorb her back into the association?</b><br /> Salisu: That is uncertain, as we do not know what she wants to discuss with the committee. The committee cannot deny her audience because Rahama Sadau was one time our full time member, so if she says she wants to meet with the committee, then definitely we must give her audience and we must listen to her. But considering her back to the industry, I am telling that we don’t have that in mind right now.<br /> <br /> <b>Some sources say that the main reason for Sadau’s expulsion from Kannywood was not exactly because she acted in the music video in question but majorly because the video truncated efforts by your association to secure the establishment of the Kano Film Village. The said video came out at a time when many of your fans and even clerics in the region were opposed to the film village, arguing that it will be a breeding ground for immorality amongst Hausa artists. What do you say to this?</b><br /> Salisu: This particular offence is a different thing entirely. Recently we had a meeting with all the stakeholders in Kannywood, including the actors and actresses, that we are particular about the conducts of our actors and actresses. But we have been challenged by other misbehavior and misconduct exhibited by Miss Sadau in the past. So we are particular on the fact that we have drawn a line after having a meeting with all the stakeholders and all the performing actors noting that everyone should abide by the rules and regulations and the codes of conduct of the Hausa movie industry, so that we can have a good image and protect our name and so on. We have drawn these lines and she was there when these decisions were made, that after that meeting any reported misconduct, we would no longer tolerate and that we are going to punish an offender according to the level of offence he or she has committed. Miss Sadau had previously on two occasions offended the association and she was forgiven. We had one that we gave her warning and one that we suspended her, then this last one that we expelled her.<br /> <br /> <b>There was a time one of your actors, Ali Nuhu, hugged and kissed a lady in a movie and the association did not expel him. Why?</b><br /> Salisu: Ali Nuhu did similar offence, two years back. Two years back, we had not updated our code of conduct or ethics and we hadn’t done the stakeholders’ meeting because it was from the stakeholders’ meeting that we have drafted a code of conduct. Rahama Sadau was there and Ali Nuhu is aware too. Definitely, if Ali Nuhu committed the same offence now, we would expel him from the industry the way we expelled Rahama Sadau.<br /> <br /> <b>When did the association come up with this new code of conduct?</b><br /> Salisu: It was formed last month, 2nd of last month. We have updated this code of conduct and put it in practice for all the practitioners that exist in this industry.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>But was she aware of this binding code at all?</b><br /> Salisu: Rahama was aware because she was seated in the meeting for 3 hours and she gave her contributions at the meeting. Rahama cannot say that she is not aware.<br /> <br /> <b>In your code of ethics, what was the rule that she violated— hugging a man, kissing, which of them?</b><br /> Salisu: The issue was not whether or not she performed in a musical dance; the problem was that she was hugging a man in such a romantic way which is against our code of our ethics, and this thing has brought a bad name to the industry because they uploaded it on social media and began to circulate it and you know how our industry is governed by the Hausa culture. So this is the major reason we took a decision to expel her from the industry; because she has committed an offence the first time, the second time and this last one was the final that resorted to her ban.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>When did she commit the first offence?</b><br /> Salisu: She has been in the industry for three years now. The first year she joined, she fought with her director and that caused her to appear before the disciplinary committee. She brought some people, intending to wreck the director and then said she wasn’t going to act in his movie again. and threw all sorts of abuses on the director. The said director brought her before the disciplinary committee of Kannywood and we  issued her a warning. She promised she was not going to repeat the same mistake and backed it up with a letter of apology. Two years later, she went to another location and she virtually repeated the same thing she had done, immorality and other things and the producer again reported her for the second time. We showed her the letter that she had formerly written, promising that she won’t act in such manner again. She appeared before the disciplinary committee with same offence. We warned her again, suspended her for six months and met with the Kano leadership body who pleaded on he behalf and her suspension was lifted making it the second time and we gave the second warning.<br /> <br /> <b>So the true position of Rahama Sadau’s expulsion from Kannywood, is that she is not been considered for reabsorbing, her ban is indefinite?</b><br /> Salisu: No, it is not decided. It is more or less a matter of discretion now.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>Recently she was invited by Jeta Amata and US singer Akon to come over to Hollywood.  What is your reaction to this development?</b><br /> Salisu: We don’t have any problem with that, she can get invited anywhere. In fact she can act anywhere as well, but she cannot act Hausa movie or participate in any Kannywood activity . She can decide to act in Hollywood, Nollywood so long it is not Kannywood or any Hausa-related activity, we do not have any problem with that.<br /> <br /></div>

We shall use cultural diplomacy as a veritable tool for the promotion of harmonious relationships with our neighbours far and near.”<br /> <br /> The Oba said that having shrunk to one state from parts of Lagos, Asaba and even Dahomey, it was imperative to sustain the Benin Empire by promoting the language from one generation to the other, through its enshrinement in the school curricula.<br /> <br /> He also said that to promote tourism, through arts and crafts, two special purpose vehicles – Benin Royal Dynasty Trust and Benin Royal Academy for the Performing Arts, in collaboration with the Benin Traditional Council, had already been established.<br /> <br /> The new monarch, who paid glowing tributes to his late father, Oba Erediauwa, and mother, described him as the true symbol of the Benin cultural heritage and added that he enjoyed and benefited from the late Oba’s love more than anyone else.<br /> <br /> In his honour, the Oba announced the establishment of the Oba Erediauwa Annual Lecture Series, through the investment of N10m in a trust fund, adding that the proceeds would be used to support an annual and well researched ýoration on any subject in Benin history, public administration or Edo language.<br /> <br /> Oba Ewuare II also bestowed a posthumous title of Iyoba on his late mother, Princess Ikuoyemwen Akenzua, and lauded her efforts in teaching him to work hard in order to succeed.<br /> <br /> He added, “I therefore stand before you as the 40th Oba of Benin, a direct descendant of Oranmiyan, the son of Oduduwa, whom the Benin people of that era knew as Ekaladeran, their self-exiled prince who later became ruler in Ile-Ife. The Benin people recognise Oduduwa and his origin but it is not our place to force this recognition on others outside our boundaries.<br /> <br /> “The history of the world is a shared one and there will certainly be unexpected connections in the future. These were sanctions imposed on the firm for failing to disconnect unregistered customers in Nigeria.
