Where are they now?<br /> <br /> “Who supervised the obituaries of these industries? It is the PDP, and who was the Vice-President at that time, Atiku.<br /> <br /> “How can you supervise the liquidation of industries and make promise to create new jobs?<br /> <br /> “Jobs are not created by miracles; by investing in infrastructure, the present government has generated many jobs through construction and multiplier effects.<br /> <br /> “The Next level means more jobs are coming for the people” he said.<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole said that the PDP Vice-Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, did not have the moral authority to speak on jobs.<br /> <br /> He alleged that Obi deals in Made-in -China goods, exporting jobs, saying that was the reason he always quoted figures from China at any gathering.<br /> <br /> Oshiomole said the country did not fare well under the 16years of PDP, which he described as an era characterised by looting and poor leadership.<br /> <br /> He said the Buhari administration had done well to put the country on the right course in the last three and half years.<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole said Buhari was a man of integrity, adding the anti-corruption fight and love for the masses had improved under him.<br /> <br /> “President Buhari is a man of integrity. He is the only president that no British Prime Minister has called a thief.<br /> <br /> “He is the only president that is widely acknowledged to be fighting corruption.<br /> <br /> “This is the only president that the Arch-Bishop of Canterbury in London has described as an African leader who stands out to be counted on the side of the people.<br /> <br /> “That is why I am proud and you are proud to be associated with what Buhari is doing and what he stands for, and why the Next level is about you,” he said.<br /> <br /> He said the difference between the APC and PDP was that while the former was about the people the latter was about themselves.<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole said while APC was spending N500billion on the poor, the PDP was complaining the money was too much, as they were used to looting.<br /> <br /> He said the promise by Atiku to give amnesty to treasury looters while leaving petty thieves who steal N10 or N20 should tell anyone that PDP was about class.<br /> <br /> The party chairman said the APC was sure of victory on Feb. 16 and March 2, as it would defeat the PDP “mercilessly”.<br /> <br /> He assured the international community that the party would not be involved in rigging or violence,as it had no record of doing that.<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole said the APC had no reason to rig, as people believed in the party for progress.<br /> <br /> He said Lagos was an example of a working state, which was so because it was under APC.<br /> <br /> The Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation and Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, said a vote for APC was a vote for infrastructure.<br /> <br /> He said the delivery of Lagos -Abeokuta rail project and others in the country by the APC meant the party was for development.<br /> <br /> The APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, urged residents to vote right and for the APC.<br /> <br /> He urged residents to come out en masse and vote for the party for the progress of the state.<br /> <br /> The APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, praised the administration of Buhari, saying the state had benefited immensely in terms of projects in the last three and half years.<br /> <br /> NAN reports that APC state governors, ministers, among others were part of the mammoth crowd of party faithful and residents at the rally. Consequently, the court joined them.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Thereafter, Oluyede informed the court that they had filed an affidavit disclosing that the Plaintiffs and their collaborators were parading themselves as candidates of the party while they were still before the court praying to be declared as candidates.<br /> <br /> He added that they plan to hold a rally where they would be paraded and flags presented to them as candidates of the party even when INEC has not published their names and for which reason they were before the court.<br /> <br /> Oluyede submitted that such an action could lead to a breakdown of law and order and render the case before the court nugatory, if the court did not intervene, adding that the Police had already summoned an emergency security meeting based on the tension being generated by the matter.<br /> <br /> He prayed the court to direct the police not to grant any permission for a rally where flags would be presented to Adebutu and others.<br /> <br /> Alternatively, he urged the court to declare that if such a rally must hold, it was only those whose names had been published by INEC as the authentic candidates of the PDP in Ogun State that should be presented as candidates of the party in the state.<br /> <br /> Fashanu opposed the prayers, saying they were speculative.<br /> <br /> Ruling on the prayers, the court held that where the issue of a potential breakdown of law and order was raised, it has a duty to look at it and take steps to prevent it, adding that the Rule of Law was the basis upon which INEC and the parties conduct their activities.<br /> <br /> The court held that where the Rule of Law was jettisoned, it would result in the break down of law and order such as being raised by the applicant.<br /> <br /> The court then directed the parties in the matter (i.e. the plaintiffs and the respondents) and their counsel to refrain from being used to foist a fait accompli on the court or cause a breakdown of law and order.<br /> <br /> It also directed PDP not to hold anyone out or present anyone as candidates except those who names have been published by INEC pending the hearing and determination of the suits before it, stressing that anything done contrary to the position of the law would be contemptuous and could lead to the breakdown of law and order.<br /> <br /> The court adjourned till 14th February, 2019, for hearing of the substantive suit and all pending applications before it.

Some of the places we visited had many systems but a few candidates. Let the candidates out there be mindful of the examination dates and register now. ”<br /> <br /> <br /> On the outcome of monitoring the centres and interacting with candidates , Ndukwe said he was satisfied that the complaints associated with cybercafes were now a thing of the past and the days of extorting candidates and poor data management were over.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> <br /> “ It is seamless and we are happy . What I have seen today has confirmed that Prof . Oloyede and his technical team were very right to ban cybercafes . I have interacted with the candidates ; they are all happy and satisfied . His criminal activities started when I could not find the $ 1 , 000 I kept in my room to complete my daughter’ s tuition.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ The following day , I returned from work and saw my wedding picture on my bed with a note suggesting that the writer was my wife. She said in the note that she was alive and around me and that I should go to my car to see another message by the driver ’ s door . I rushed to the car and saw the note which warned me not to inform my children and my brother who lives nearby . ”<br /> <br /> <br /> The petitioner said he was further cautioned in the note to stop complaining about the missing $ 1 , 000.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ She said I should stop embarrassing the children over the missing $ 1 , 000 which she said was missing for a purpose . I was very confused and could not reconcile how she could be operating in the spirit , ” Uzoma added.<br /> <br /> <br /> He explained further that his “ living -in - spirit wife ” purportedly sent other notes, saying she initiated Okoro ’ s visit to the house and had prepared him for the major role he would play in the processes that would lead to her return.<br /> <br /> <br /> He said , “ I called my nephew and told him my experience and that I didn ’ t understand the mystery behind what was going on . I took him to my room and showed him the notes and the photos which were originally hung in the living room , but were now on my bed.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ Then I asked him if he ever had an encounter with my wife and he said she had been talking to him in dreams and sending messages . I never thought that he was the mastermind as the door to my house was locked and not broken into . ”<br /> <br /> <br /> Uzoma said he subsequently received a typed message in which his wife purportedly asked him to send his nephew to Owerri , “ where most of the activities leading to her reunion would take place ”.<br /> <br /> <br /> He explained that Okoro relocated to Owerri and informed him that he had established physical contact with the wife.<br /> <br /> <br /> Uzoma said , “He continued demanding money from me . He said my wife had to undergo surgeries so she could be treated of burns she suffered in the crash . I borrowed N3 . 5 m from the bank. I told him that I wanted to see her , but he said it was not the right time.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ I also borrowed money from my employer and sold my house in Owerri for N 15 m to meet up with the demands for my so - called wife’ s treatment . He also collected my wife’ s N6 . 7 m pension and gratuity and I cannot count the number of times I transferred money to him . ”<br /> <br /> <br /> The acting EFCC spokesman , Tony Orilade , said he was not familiar with the details of the petition . He , however , said the petition would be investigated if it had merit.<br /> <br /> <br /> He said , “ I am not familiar with the details of the petition but we investigate every petition we get if there is merit in it. It would surely be investigated . ”

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJMcJnqNNlZxfhZTkYgfGoM7MThjQJLMFAry_50k2y3kQMPvcwMbTjU5M97hZUSDTNPPe7-Qz7zNr7xwfSlu9DOT-vNIlU0l1j4JkVkAk5DXGLF0sZWedJz3alY_QgTXAuut5NQK_2x790/s1600/vote+ballot1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="340" data-original-width="450" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJMcJnqNNlZxfhZTkYgfGoM7MThjQJLMFAry_50k2y3kQMPvcwMbTjU5M97hZUSDTNPPe7-Qz7zNr7xwfSlu9DOT-vNIlU0l1j4JkVkAk5DXGLF0sZWedJz3alY_QgTXAuut5NQK_2x790/s320/vote+ballot1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> Ahead of next Saturday’s elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has created additional 57,023 voting points to address the large number of voters which now stands at 84 million.<br /> <br /> According to  <i>Punch Newspaper, </i>the voting points would be carved out of the existing 119, 973 polling units nationwide.<br /> <br /> This comes barely a month after the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said more voting units would not be created.<br /> <br /> Yakubu had said last month, “On polling units, the commission wishes to assure the media that there is no change in the number of polling units and voting points used for the 2015 general elections and the 2016 Area Council elections in the FCT.<br /> <br /> <br /> “Any insinuation that new polling units, voting points or voting points are being created by the commission is utterly baseless and should be disregarded.”<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> However, it was learnt that following a high-powered meeting by INEC national commissioners and other relevant stakeholders, it was decided that 57, 023 new voting points had to be created.<br /> <br /> It was learnt that the move had become necessary because the number of registered voters had risen by 15 million since 2015 and as thus the old arrangement was not feasible.<br /> <br /> The additional voting points would also ensure that voting is done in record time in order to allow for quick collation of results which will be expected to take longer due to the high number of political parties which has since risen to 91.<br /> <br /> The 2015 Presidential election had 14 candidates but 2019 has a record 72.<br /> <br /> The collation and announcement of results which would require the announcement of each political party one after the other, might take as long as five days and INEC was doing everything possible to ease the process.<br /> <br /> A national commissioner at INEC said, “We have established 57,023 across the country because the number of voters has increased. We are creating more voting points and not more polling units.”<br /> <br /> The commissioner explained that a voting point is created when a polling unit has more than 500 registered voters.<br /> <br /> He said, “A voting point is derived from a polling unit. When a polling unit has more than 500 registered voters, a voting point can be carved out of it and set aside but it is not completely independent. Ideally, a polling unit should not have more than 750 voters.”<br /> <br /> When asked why INEC changed its mind, the commissioner said, “Once a polling unit has more than 750 voters, it is best to devolve a new voting point out of it because if the entire 750 turn up for election, they will not be able to complete accreditation and voting by 2pm.<br /> <br /> “In 2015, there were 69 million voters but now we have 84 million. So, that accounts for the increase in the number of voting points.<br /> <br /> “As I said, these voting points are like a sub-polling unit. For instance, if Gaskiya Primary School is a polling unit but has 1, 200 registered voters, we can create a voting point out of that unit, to make it two to allow for a better and faster voting process. So, at the end, all the results from that unit would be collated as one.”<br /> <br /> When contacted, the INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Festus Okoye, confirmed the creation of more voting points.<br /> <br /> He said it had become necessary due to the large number of voters.<br /> <br /> Okoye said, “We have created more because the number of voters has risen to 84 million. INEC regulation 3c states that voting points are created out of polling units based on multiples of 500 and a maximum of 750 registered voters or as may otherwise be determined by the commission.<br /> <br /> “We cannot use the 2015 template because the total number of registered voters was 69 million but now it is 84 million. If we use the same template, it means we have not learnt any lessons at all.”

However, Muhammadu Buhari Campaign immediately dismissed the assertion and warned that opposition was not a licence to commit offence. Spokesman of the Buhari Campaign, Mr. Festus Keyamo, said: “If they have done nothing, they have nothing to fear, but the fact that you are in the opposition is not a licence for you to commit illegality.<br /> <br /> If they do anything illegal in the days to the election, they will be arrested.” But in a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, the PDP presidential candidate said his close political associates were being targeted for arrest by APC-led Federal Government, which is hell bent on derailing the electoral process. He said: ‘’The architects of this plot believe that unless the APC destabilises the main opposition party and gets rid of the key associates of the PDP presidential candidate, President Buhari’s plan to clinch a second term in office will be in jeopardy, especially as they are afraid, for obvious reasons that the president has become unpopular and won’t be re-elected at the poll.<br /> <br />  ‘’The first step in this desperate plot is to arrest some of our associates using the EFCC with others soon to follow, based on a list that has been drawn up by the cabal,” the statement said. Atiku said the linchpin of the plot was a governor of an APC controlled state in the North West working in tandem with a prominent minister in President Buhari’s cabinet and the leadership of the ruling party. ‘’The cooked intelligence report concluded that all means must be used to stop Atiku.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Reading between lines, the measures being advocated in the report could only be to frame his associates for money laundering, creation of chaos and anarchy to pave the way for the derailing of the electoral process, which will ultimately lead to the emergence of an interim national government,’’ he said. According to the statement, the PDP presidential candidate is not surprised that the President and his handlers have gone into panic mode since the results of polls conducted by Williams and Associates indicated that Atiku would win next week’s presidential election. Williams and Associates was the same polling firm that predicted Buhari would beat Goodluck by 54% to 46% in 2015 (result was 54% to 45%).<br /> <br /> For next week’s election, Williams and Associates had said that majority of voters in the Buhari’s own geopolitical zone of the north-west believe Atiku will be the next president, as do the voters in every other single geopolitical region, every age group, every religion and in urban and rural areas. Even the majority of APC voters by 56% to 38% think Atiku will win. Atiku said having experienced four tortuous years of the B team, the minds of Nigerians were now made up: they want the A Team. While urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the plotters to desist from any act that will further threaten the tenuous peace and security in the country, Atiku reminded them to learn from history.<br /> <br /> ‘’We also warn the security and anti-graft agencies to be independent and not to allow themselves to be used for political gains. ‘’They should put national interest above partisan interest, and remember that President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC gang are not synonymous with the Nigerian nation. ‘’Buhari is just a bull in china shop that will soon be ejected by the peoples’ votes on February 16,’’ Atiku said.

INEC has been dragged to court 640 times, we have received 540 requests for certified true copy of documents. We have received 186 petitions over the conduct of congresses and party primaries.<br /> <br /> “It is d policy of INEC to obey court orders. People ask if the judgements from these courts are decided close to elections if INEC will postpone the elections, INEC will not postpone any elections but we will make contingency arrangements in case some of the orders come close to elections,” he said.<br /> <br /> The INEC chairman also assured the stakeholders that he would “never fail Nigeria and Nigerians.”<br /> <br /> He stated that smart card reader would be deployed in the 2019 elections while expressing surprise that many Nigerians complained of not collecting their PVCs at the centres.<br /> <br /> Yakubu reiterated that the commission printed the total of 14.2 million PVCs after voters registration adding that those cards were ready for collection.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> He therefore said the commission would meet with a view to possibly reviewing the deadline for collection.<br /> <br /> “Let me assure the nation and the stakeholders that smart card reader will be deployed in the 2019 elections. The next big issue for us is the voter register and the availability of the PVC.<br /> <br /> “We have heard so many complaints by citizens that they have been to collection centers but we are surprised to hear that in some centres they were told to come back that the cards were not printed.<br /> <br /> “We have 14.2 million new voters; the commission printed 14.2 million cards. The commission is going to meet today (Thursday) and where it is necessary, we will review the arrangements for the collection of PVC.”<br /> <br /> He urged the transport companies to ensure that polling units receive the electoral materials at 7:30 am while voting should commence at 8am.<br /> <br /> According the INEC chairman, priority has been given to the elderly, visibly pregnant women and the physically challenged persons to vote at the polling units or voting points.<br /> <br /> The INEC chairman reiterated that while magnifying glasses and brails have been provided for the visually impaired to aid them to vote, form EC30 containing bold instructions on how the deaf should cast their votes are posted at every polling units as well as the voting points.<br /> <br /> He also stated that the list of returning officers from the nation’s tertiary institutions would be vetted to ensure that partisan members of academic staff were not included.<br /> <br /> The INEC boss said his commission had approved 148 observer groups comprising 119 domestic observer groups and 29 foreign observer groups.<br /> <br /> He explained that internally displaced persons in other states would only be allowed to vote in the presidential election.<br /> <br /> Also speaking on the preparations for the elections, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, noted that the security agency has identifed flashpoint areas in the country.<br /> <br /> He assured all that the police will bring such places to order.<br /> <br /> The IG said no VIP would be allowed to move around with police escort on election days.<br /> <br /> He warned that any policeman who contravened the rule would be arrested.<br /> <br /> “No escort of VIPs on election day, any policeman who contravenes this order would be arrested,” the IGP said

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK8P50DtGArvW8RLnk_kFGNcPaZ4VoliCsExqyodfm87FvUgGpJoDKY6J8v9KkvA4HhQ2mgrX7P2kSou94iFTgt6gvy4vHGlNCDLfId6k-omnEe3NyO2gu84WtiOqDwgC2_7Dx658S0A2p/s1600/Fashola+%25281%2529+works.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="485" data-original-width="485" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK8P50DtGArvW8RLnk_kFGNcPaZ4VoliCsExqyodfm87FvUgGpJoDKY6J8v9KkvA4HhQ2mgrX7P2kSou94iFTgt6gvy4vHGlNCDLfId6k-omnEe3NyO2gu84WtiOqDwgC2_7Dx658S0A2p/s320/Fashola+%25281%2529+works.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has stated that power generation in Nigeria increased by 100 per cent within a space of three years.<br /> <br /> Fashola, who disclosed this while playing host to members of the Federation of Construction Industry in his office on Monday in Abuja, specifically stated that power generation increased from 4,000 megawatts in 2015 to 8,000MW in 2018.<br /> <br /> This, however, was different from the latest power generation figures obtained from the Transmission Company of Nigeria on Monday, as the TCN stated that peak generation attained on February 3, 2019, was 4,976MW.<br /> <br /> It also stated that the peak average energy ever sent out was 4,557MWH/H and that this was recorded on February 2, 2016.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> TCN further stated that the peak power generation ever attained was 5,222MW, adding that the figure was recorded on December 18, 2017.<br /> <br /> But Fashola, in a statement issued by the FMPWH on Monday, told his guests that Nigerians now spent less on fuelling of generators and plants because of frequent and improved electricity supply nationwide.<br /> <br /> The minister said the government was committed to renewing and expanding the Nigerian economy through the provision of critical infrastructure.<br /> <br /> He explained that the ministry was almost completing 34 pilot national housing programmes in the states that had provided land for the take-off of the programme, adding that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of federal secretariats were ongoing in Bayelsa, Anambra, Zamfara and Nasarawa states.<br /> <br /> Fashola told the FOCI members that the Federal Government recognised the efforts of the association in helping to galvanise the quarry and mining industry due to the volume of construction going on in the built environment and the road sector.<br /> <br /> Fashola was quoted in the statement as saying, “When I first met you, there were complaints of non-payment for three to four years before the coming of this administration.<br /> <br /> “But I can confidently say there is not one year since the beginning of this administration that contractors have not been paid; the money move round the economy.”<br /> <br /> Fashola also explained that Executive Order 5 sought to achieve local participation for Nigerians and Nigerian companies, as the ministry was already compiling the list of Nigerians working on project sites.<br /> <br /> He further explained that the recent Executive Order 7 signed by the President would ensure industrialisation, adding that it would expand construction work and manufacturing jobs.<br /> <br /> The Director-General, FOCI, who led the delegation, Olubunmi Adekoje, appreciated the ministry for the support given to the association and the timely intervention in the area of finance to boost the activities of the industry.

He led the fight and is leading the fight by personal example; that is the height of leadership. Do as as I do, not as a say, he has demonstrated that.”<br /> <br /> He said Buhari had fulfilled all his campaign promises, a reason that endeared him to the retired officers.<br /> <br /> When asked whether the former officers endorsed the President out of fear that he might come after them, Marwa replied, “Absolutely not. Every human being is political; we may be non-partisan, we all want a good country for ourselves, our children and grandchildren and even for those yet unborn.<br /> <br /> “Look at the drug abuse thing for instance, he is the first President that launched a war against it in Nigeria through the committees, one of which I chair.<br /> <br /> “Unless you have compassion, you will overlook the matter of drugs and think that these are the dregs of the society. But he did.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Presidency said during the meeting with the retired military officers, Buhari told them that he had clear objectives to serve the country.<br /> <br /> A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted the President as saying that Nigerians must “salvage Nigeria together” as the only country they had.<br /> <br /> He added, “God has made this country great.
