<p> </p> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLzB6CnY4KUHvnVeDoDhfDFeaVOuTsErwPzFDOt2RdxLjNr-IwUu25vQ8ycU2_qVIAmhRK9I51RGGYyUMUQoG1m6nNAJ0_FklmeU6Uu2lhEvhNRBzqc2O2aH7AKA7vcr2IHakjvFlvqbg/s512/BA24E1A0-9CB0-4CEC-9EE5-CAC03D6BB70C.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="316" data-original-width="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLzB6CnY4KUHvnVeDoDhfDFeaVOuTsErwPzFDOt2RdxLjNr-IwUu25vQ8ycU2_qVIAmhRK9I51RGGYyUMUQoG1m6nNAJ0_FklmeU6Uu2lhEvhNRBzqc2O2aH7AKA7vcr2IHakjvFlvqbg/s0/BA24E1A0-9CB0-4CEC-9EE5-CAC03D6BB70C.png" /></a></div> <p><b>The Kogi State Polytechnic has expelled 25 students for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.</b></p> <p>The institution disclosed this in a statement issued to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Mrs Uredo Omale, its Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, on Saturday in Lokoja.</p> <p>Omale said the decision was taken at the meeting of the institution’s Governing Board held on Aug. 13.</p> <p>According to her, the decision is in line with the recommendation of the Students Examination Malpractice Committee.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>She said that the students were found guilty of various forms of examination misconduct during the second semester examination for the 2018/2019 academic session.</p> <p>The Spokesperson said that the board had during the meeting also approved backlog of results across all schools, beginning from the 2016/2017 academic session.</p> <p>“The meeting also considered and approved the establishment of the School of Agricultural Technology at the Itakpe campus of the Polytechnic,” she said.</p> <p>She said that the newly-approved school would commence academic activities with National Diploma (ND) programmes in the 2020/2021 Session.</p> <p>“It will offer programmes such as Animal Health and Production Technology, Agriculture and Bio-enviromental Technology, Horticultural Technology and Agricultural Technology,” Omale said.</p> <p>She further stated that the board also approved the constitution of three committees to handle pressing academic and disciplinary issues.</p> <p>They are: Committees for Result Verification to be chaired by the Deputy Rector, Dr Lamidi Kehinde, the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, with Mr Stephen Rowland of the School of General Studies as Chairman and the Student Disciplinary Committee to be chaired by the Director of Academic Planning, Mrs Ruth Haruna.</p>

I said, Obaseki leaving is not going to be a tea party for us in APC [because] most importantly, he left with our purse.”</p> <p>He said all the money going to Edo State goes to Obaseki and the Governor left with that money and will no longer fund the APC but will now fund the PDP, “So, see what we have lost,” he lamented, as quoted by the Sun..</p> <p>“I still say when two elephants fight, the grass suffers, and that is what will happen anywhere in the country. Everywhere two elephants fight the grass suffers,” Momoh added.</p> <p>“The grass in Edo State suffered because APC in Edo was factionalised into Obaseki- Shaibu Movement and Edo People Movement.</p> <p>“One operating under the umbrella of Obaseki, while the other under the umbrella of Oshiomhole.</p> <p>“I said, the laurel why these two elephants are fighting might be lost. Edo is now a PDP state because the governor has moved over to PDP.</p> <p>“So, we have lost what we were fighting for. Looking at it now, the two elephants were crippled –Obaseki ceased to be leader of APC in Edo, that is crippling and Oshiomhole has ceased to be the national chairman of the party, that is crippling,” added.</p> <p>He noted that the PDP Governors in South-South are the biggest earners from the federation account and will participate financially to ensure that Obaseki wins.</p> <p>“They will lose the election if Edo voters insist that they want APC to continue to rule that state and ignore the use of money,” Momoh said.</p>

We came to the Villa because the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a visitor to the university, so we thought we should pay a courtesy call to the Villa because we had gone to the appropriate authorities to give them the resolution of the Senate concerning the event that is unfolding on the university.</p> <p>“On August 13, we had an emergency meeting, attended by 91 professors. What was the issue? We want to make it known that the purported removal of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos did not follow due process. Therefore, it is illegal and cannot stand. We are not saying that the council has no right to remove the vice-chancellor.</p> <p>“There is a laid-down procedure in the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The law provides the procedure for the removal of the vice-chancellor that there should be a joint committee of the Senate and the Governing Council. This has not been followed. The rule of law has been trampled on the ground. We are talking about the life and soul of the rule of law, of fairness and justice, not just for the University of Lagos, but for the entire university system and indeed the entire nation.</p> <p>“We are not saying our vice-chancellor has or has not committed any offence. Binding allegations here and there is begging the issue. The issue is, if you say he has done something wrong, follow due process. And if he is found guilty, so be it.”</p> <p>Agomo added that the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of UNILAG, Dr Wale Babalakin, had lost the confidence of the Senate and that the council should be dissolved.</p> <p>However, Babalakin on Friday defended Ogundipe’s sacking, accusing him of looting the university’s treasury “recklessly.”</p> <p>He stated this on Friday at the MMA2 on his arrival in Lagos from Abuja, where the school’s governing council had been in a three-day meeting.</p> <p>The UNILAG governing council had on August 12, the first day of its meeting, announced Ogundipe’s sacking and appointed Prof Theophilus Soyombo as the new vice-chancellor.</p> <p>Speaking on Friday, Babalakin said, “Without mentioning to anybody, Ogundipe spent N49m renovating his official house; he sought no approval for this. To cover it up, he gave the bursar N41m to renovate his official residence. An investigation found out that he exceeded his authority. That is how we heard the sad news of his death.”</p> <p>Bura also confirmed the kidnapping of the deceased lawmaker’s wives and son, adding that as of this morning, the kidnapped women and child are still with the gunmen at an unknown destination.</p> <p>Efforts to speak with the Speaker of the House so far proved futile, while the police are yet to say anything on the incident.</p>

I went to my place of trade together with my son who assists me in my trade.</p> <p>“At about 11.30am, I sent my son on an errand only to be informed by my fellow traders that my son had been arrested and locked up inside the Black Maria by armed agents of the 3rd respondent.</p> <p>“I hurriedly closed my trade and went to the place where my son and other persons had been arrested and locked up.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“Every effort made by me to secure the release of my son proved abortive.</p> <p>“My son, together with other persons, was driven to SARS office at Ikeja police command. Agents of the respondents levied all sorts of trumped-up allegations against my son and told me to bring N500,000 to secure his release.</p> <p>“Because of my inability to get the money my son has been detained since the 28th of March, 2020 till date.</p> <p>“He is my only child and my husband has passed away since 2019,” Regina said in affidavit attached to a fundamental rights suit, seeking an order for the release of her son.</p> <p>In the suit filed in the name of the detained boy, a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, urged the court to declare that Sunday’s arrest was unlawful, oppressive and violated his fundamental right to personal liberty and fair hearing provided for under sections 33, 35, 36 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution.</p> <p>He prayed the court to order the immediate release of the boy from custody and for police to tender a public apology to him in a national daily newspaper while he should be paid N50m as general and exemplary damages for his unlawful arrest, detention and humiliation by SARS</p>

See, this is an unserious and irresponsible government. Nigerians should not take this government serious over this mindless level of insecurity.”</p> <p>According to him, the level of insecurity and economic mismanagement has gone to a higher level, adding that anything can happen.</p> <p>“This can even lead to civil disobedience and civil war,” Musa observed.</p> <p>On Kaduna State, he noted that once the government cannot deal with the insecurity in one state, when the situation is all over the country, the government naturally loses grip on its security challenges.</p>

/></a></div> <p><b>Mr Wahab Shittu, the lawyer to the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, has written the Justice Ayo Salami-led Judicial Commission of Inquiry, accusing the panel of various acts of illegalities and violations of his client’s right to fair hearing.</b></p> <p>The letter dated August 11, 2020, was addressed to the Chairman of the panel, which is probing Magu for alleged abuse of office and mismanagement of Federal Government recovered assets and finances from May 2015 to May 2020.</p> <p>Shittu, in the letter, alleged that the panel’s proceedings had been conducted in violation of not only the presidential instrument appointing it but also the Tribunal of Inquiry Act, 2004, which empowers the President to set up the JCI.</p> <p>He described as “curious and worrisome” that the panel led by Salami, which started as an administrative panel of inquiry taking oral and documentary evidence in the past one month suddenly metamorphosed into a Judicial Commission of Inquiry.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“How this comes within the contemplation of a Commission of the Tribunal of Inquiry Act 2004 is very questionable,” he added.</p> <p>The lawyer also expressed concern that despite his client being the principal subject matter of the proceedings, he was not formally invited to appear before the panel and that the instrument appointing the JCI which was signed on July 3, 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari was not served on him until 35 days after.</p> <p>Faulting the secretive nature of the proceedings of the panel, Shittu conceded that the panel had the power to, in a given situation, exclude members of the public from its proceedings, but cited section 2(d) of the Act which he argued does not permit the panel to bar the public from “the entirety of the proceedings but limited to few special situations in the context of the public sittings”.</p> <p>Shittu said, aside from barring the public from its proceedings, the suspended chairman of EFCC along with his lawyer was excluded from the proceedings of the panel on numerous occasions, particularly, the July 11, 12, and 13, 2020 proceedings.</p> <p>He added that the panel appointed on July 3, 2020, had started sitting when he was brought before it on July 6.</p> <p>He said among other violations of the provisions of the Tribunal of Inquiry Act, 2004, even when allowed to participate at the proceedings as Magu’s lawyer, he was never allowed to cross-examine the witnesses testifying against his client.</p> <p>He added that oaths were also not being administered to witnesses testifying at the panel in violation of Section 5(b) of the Tribunal of Inquiry Act 2004.</p> <p>He also suggested that the tenure of the proceedings had been surrounded in doubts, despite the presidential instrument appointing the panel clearly stipulated that its proceedings must be concluded within 45 days.</p> <p>He stated, “Please be further advised that by the instrument of appointment signed by the president of the federal republic of Nigeria on the July 3, 2020 and served on our client on August 8, 2020, the judicial commission of inquiry is to conclude all proceedings of the Inquiry within 45 days unless given express extension in writing by the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.”</p> <p>Shittu also accused the panel of delving into matters not within its terms of reference and entertaining petitions on live cases pending before superior courts.</p> <p>He stated, “In summary, we have concerns regarding the legality of the honourable tribunal in the areas highlighted above such as:</p> <p>“The tribunal has consistently sat in private (camera) and not in public of the applicable law;</p> <p>“The tribunal has held proceedings and invited and entertained witnesses to the exclusion of our client and his counsel in violation of the applicable law on rules of fair hearing.</p> <p>“The tribunal has sat and conducted proceedings in the absence of our client in violation of the applicable law and rules of fair hearing.</p> <p>“The detention of Mr. Magu and subsequent denial of Mr. Magu’s detention by both your panel and the police.</p> <p>“The suspension of twelve officials (investigators and prosecutors) of the EFCC without query, interrogation, or any other expected standard treatment for such an action.</p> <p>“The appearance of several conflicting reportage in the media without any official statement from your committee;</p> <p>“Failure to allow Mr. Magu’s counsel to cross-examine our client’s accusers and witnesses.</p> <p>“Failure of the committee to reveal its mandate, terms of reference and timeline until August 8, 2020(35 days after the panel was expected to have commenced public sitting by virtue of the instrument of mandate. It is also unclear whether proceedings of the panel before the date of the issuance of the instrument of mandate will be deemed to be part of the forty-five days timeline prescribed in the instrument of mandate or proceedings will be deemed to commence when our client was served the instrument of mandate on 8th August 2020.”</p> <p>He said the panel could only “lawfully proceed on the basis of strict adherence to the letters of its instrument of mandate as well as the enabling legal regime from which the instrument of mandate derives its authority including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which is the ground norm.”</p> <p>He added, despite “the above factual and legal observations”, should the panel “decide to proceed with the inquiry; our client will be ready to present his defence and meritorious case.”</p>

In all of these, let the joy of the Lord be our strength, because that is what we will be spreading and not any virus,” he added.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Olumakaiye commended the efforts of the government in curbing the spread of coronavirus, and health workers for their sacrifice.</p> <p>He said the church was the hope of the common man, because “when every other thing or method fails, the church of God, where God’s holy altar is, cannot fail.”</p> <p>According to him, it is high time the world came together in fervent prayers to God for intervention.</p> <p>“As we congregate in our churches, let us humble ourselves with the assurances that it is only God that can help us. Pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways so that the Lord will heal our land of this pandemic,” the cleric added.</p>

I have been trying my best not to fall into depression. I have been going through counselling and it has not been easy.</p> <p>“44 days in cell was no joke, I will not wish such on an enemy.</p> <p>“The pressure is everywhere and the whole thing is not easy. The energy is not the same, my parents and Manager are really trying. I really appreciate everyone.” She said</p>

Thousands of people have been killed and properties worth millions of U.S. dollars have been destroyed.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>In his inaugural speech for his second term in office in May, 2019, President Buhari stated that the principal thrust of his new Administration is to consolidate on the achievements of the previous four years, correct the lapses inevitable in all human endeavours and tackle the new challenges the country is faced with and chart a bold plan for transforming Nigeria. Little wonder, then, that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was established in August 2019 by an Executive pronouncement by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria; His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) at the inauguration of Ministers for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”</p> <p>The group said if the Buhari-led government gave the impression of running a ‘government with a human face then it should rise to the enormous task of having a proper and coordinated response to the humanitarian crises and providing relief.</p> <p>“Given the current global crisis as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the recent report that in Nigeria, five in 10 children under-five are malnourished (stunted, wasted or overweight); while three in 10 children aged six to 23 months live on poor diets; the SOCIAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMME of the Federal Government under the coordination of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has left more to be desired of it. This fact was admitted when the minister reportedly met a joint meeting organized by the National Assembly in which both the Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila expressed disappointment that the implementation of the SOCIAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMME has not met the targeted objectives and the minister accepted that she inherited some of the challenges bordering on questions of transparency and accountability. “</p> <p>The group while expressing worry said the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, charged with the mandate to develop humanitarian policies and provide effective coordination of National and International humanitarian interventions; ensure strategic disaster mitigation, preparedness and response; and manage the formulation and implementation of fair focused social inclusion and protection programs in Nigeria has become the single most notorious cesspool of corruption and lack of transparency and accountability in over 60 years of the nation’s Independence.</p> <p>“Instead of positioning itself in the light of the prevailing humanitarian situation in the country through its vision, mission and core values to promote human dignity and integration of basic humane benevolence and compassion in the treatment of Nigerians, the Ministry has rather repositioned itself as a cash guzzling machine and a financial disaster.</p> <p>“More worrisome is that this appalling and muddy feeding programme happened despite a groundswell of well-informed opposition to the disastrous idea only because the executioners had allegedly designed the primitive ways of allegedly siphoning public funds under the guise of feeding ghost school children. To prove us wrong, the Ministry should provide facts and figures for all to see and judge.</p> <p>It reiterated that the minister contradicted herself when she claimed that the food would be shared door-to door and averred that vouchers would be allocated at specific collection times to avoid overcrowding.</p> <p>The group maintained that it has nothing against any transparent effort to provide succor to Nigerians, but rejected the ongoing fraud in which school children, who were in their respective homes are being used as representations to divert public funds to a few corrupt individuals.</p> <p>It, therefore, urged the Minister to pick a date to clarify claims stating that her ministry delivered palliatives to each and every Nigerian with facts and figures showing how the exercise was carried out and the households that benefited.</p> <p>“Failure to clarify this bogus claim that is attributed to her, which to all intents and purposes is not just false, but totally and substantially dubious, deceptive, criminally and deeply annoying, we assure her that Nigerians will never forget.”</p>
