Cristiano Ronaldo's brace ensured Real Madrid became the first team in history to win back-to-back Champions Leagues with a 4-1 victory over 10-man Juventus. 
 
Ronaldo opened the scoring in Cardiff, with Juve drawing level through a brilliant equaliser from Mario Mandzukic, before Casemiro edged Madrid back in front after the break and the Portugal captain added his second, with Marco Asensio then netting a late fourth to secure a 12th European Cup for the Spanish side. Juan Cuadrado was dismissed for Juve six minutes from time. 
 
Juve dominated the opening stages of the game with Gonzalo Higuain managing two attempts inside the first four minutes -- first heading a cross at Keylor Navas before testing the Madrid keeper with a long distance strike just a few moments later. 
 
Juve continued to come forward early on and after six minutes it was Miralem Pjanic's turn to have a go from range, bringing out an excellent stop from Navas with a stinging low drive. 
 
But Madrid soon got a foothold in the game and went ahead in the 20th minute with their first attempt at goal -- Ronaldo playing a one-two with Daniel Carvajal before seeing his low strike take a small deflection off Leonardo Bonucci and fly into the bottom corner to make him the first player to score in three Champions League finals. It was also Madrid's 500th goal in the Champions League. 
 
But seven minutes later and Juventus were level as Mandzukic chested the ball up inside the area after being teed up by Higuain before hooking a stunning overhead kick over Navas and into the top corner of the net. 
 
Madrid, though, could have been back in front once more in the 33rd minute when Marcelo got to the byline and picked out Ronaldo in the middle, but the Portugal captain miscued his header and missed the target. 
 
It was the Spanish side who created the first chance after the restart, with Luka Modric finding some space outside the box and letting fly with a strike that Gianluigi Buffon was able to get across to deal with. 
 
Zinedine Zidane's side continued to pile on the pressure as the second half wore on and were rewarded when Casemiro's hit from the edge of the area took a big deflection off Sami Khedira and looped past Buffon into the corner in the 61st minute. 
 
Three minutes later and it was a third for Madrid when Ronaldo arrived at the near post to meet Modric's delivery and slot the ball first time past Buffon for his second of the night and his 600th goal in all competitions for club and country. 
 
Ronaldo could have had a hat trick in the 73rd minute when he was picked out in the middle of the box unmarked by Marcelo, but he could only blaze his first-time effort over the bar. 
 
Juve attempted to find a way back into the match and came close in the 82nd minute when Alex Sandro connected with Dani Alves' free kick, but he sent his header inches wide. 
 
Cuadrado, who had come on in the 66th minute, was dismissed six minutes from the end after picking up a second yellow card for a push on Sergio Ramos.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has raised the alarm over the ‎continued nefarious activity of the Fulani herdsmen across the country, especially in Benue state, calling on the Federal Government to use every means possible to rein in the killer herdsmen.

Fayose said, “what is going on in Benue State is more like an organised pogrom and those responsible for the killings in the State must be arrested and prosecuted.” The governor said Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo should be allowed to function as the president so as to be able to deploy instruments of the federal government to tackle the herdsmen menace, pointing out that; “As it is today, it appears that the Prof Osinbajo does not have the full powers of the president.” 
 
In a release issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who declared support for the new law prohibiting open grazing in Benue State, said “those opposed to the law are only doing so as part of their plot to undermine the land and people of Benue State and they must be made to face the law.” He sympathised with the government and people of Benue State, adding that the Federal Government must stop playing ostrich to the menace of the Fulani herdsmen. Governor Fayose said; “Like I have maintained, cattle farming is not different from fish farming, snake farming, poultry farming, snail farming, etc. Therefore, if fish farmers are providing their own ponds and poultry farmers building their own pens, while also buying feed for their animals, there is no reason cattle farmers should not also provide their own ranch and feed their cows without encroaching on other people’s farmlands.” 
 
“How can Nigerians embrace farming when those already in the farms are losing billions of naira worth of crops to destruction of their farmlands by the Fulani Herdsmen and the Federal Government is not doing anything about it?” He described the Buhari-led government’s continuous silence on the alleged killing of harmless Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen as unacceptable. The governor said; “In May, 2016, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria boldly told Nigerians that herdsmen killed over 1,000 Agatu people of Benue State then because over 800 of their cows were killed by Tiv youths. The man who openly made that comment was never questioned by the security agent. 
 
“The same Miyetti Allah is now against the Anti-Open Grazing Law in Benue State, vowing to mobilize its members to resist the law and claiming that pastoralists like other citizens of the country have the right to move freely and to reside in any part of the country. “Does pastoralists have rights to destroy other people’s farmlands, invade homes and rape people’s wives and daughters? Shouldn’t people who are into cattle farming be able to provide feeds for their animals?”

This week marked the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the Sovereign State of Biafra and one or more questions still linger. I will not delve into the more contentious questions, but for the sake of improving the relationship between the Igbo and their Yoruba neighbors, let me touch on one or two areas where, if the truth is brought to the fore, the relationship between omo Oduduwa and Ndi’Igbo could be improved. Firstly, why do Ndi’Igbo still believe the false stereotype that the omo Oduduwa (Yoruba) are cowards? This is simply not true and the facts do not support this belief.

In the history of Nigeria, only two men have returned to Nigeria to face almost certain death even when they had the option of a very comfortable political asylum abroad. Both of them are Yoruba. In 1985, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida toppled the Buhari regime while Major General Tunde Idiagbon (mixed Yoruba/Fulani) was at Mecca yet Idiagbon returned. 
 
In 1995, Olusegun Obasanjo (pure Owu Yoruba) was accused of planning a coup by the blood thirsty tyrant, Abacha (if you do not like that truthful description of Abacha or if you believe that ‘Abacha did not loot’, you can go and join him where he is) while he was away in Copenhagen. 
 
He returned to face almost certain death. What more example of bravery can there be than these two shining ones. Furthermore, there is the apocryphal example of Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi who chose to die with the Head of State, rather than abandon his guest, which he was at liberty to do. I am hard pressed to believe that if it was vice versa, Ironsi would have done the same for Fajuyi, but then again, I may be wrong. I admired Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu for his guts and stubborn determination during the events leading up to and during the civil war, but I was disappointed that he fled Biafra when the end came. 
 
I wish he remained. I also admired the Right Honorable Nnamdi Azikiwe, but Chief Obafemi Awolowo would NEVER have abandoned his people as Azikiwe did when he defected to the federal side during the civil war. Awolowo was in prison because of his people and he could have been released had he compromised his beliefs but he stoutly refused. That is courage not cowardice. 
 
I have been in direct communication with General Yakubu Gowon whom I admire but he did not return to Nigeria after he was accused of being behind the Dimka coup. All things considered, Fajuyi, Obasanjo and Idiagbon are probably the bravest Nigerians ever. 
 
They are (were in the cases of Fajuyi and Idiagbon) certainly braver than Murtala Ramat Mohammed, who was safely in London waiting for Joe Garba and co to topple Gowon. Even with the sullying of his name as a Quisling in the pages of history, it is on record that of all the first republic politicians that were killed in the January 1966 coup, only Samuel Ladoke Akintola, the Premier of the Western Region, put up a fight. 
 
He had a rifle and exchanged gunfire with Captain Emmanuel Nwobosi and his men. Akintola, a civilian, injured the trained soldiers and was only killed when his ammunition finished. And even at that he did not cry or beg! Ndi’Igbo may do well to remember how Wole Soyinka, at great risk to himself, traveled to Enugu during the height of the civil war crisis to persuade Ojukwu against secession. Soyinka had nothing to gain. He did what he did as a humanitarian in support of the Igbos, an act for which he was arrested by the Gowon led Federal Military Government and thrown in jail for 26 months, 22 of which he spent in solitary confinement. 
 
These facts of history prove that the stereotype of Yorubas as cowards is false. Every ethnicity has cowards and brave men. As we celebrate #BiafraAt50, I hope the Yoruba and Igbo can find common ground and unite as Southern Nigeria’s two main ethnic nationalities otherwise the South will continue to be politically disadvantaged even when it is the most educationally advantaged part of Nigeria. 
 
It is true that the Igbo are marginalized in Nigeria, however, I am of the opinion that a lot of the blame for this can be laid at Ndi’Igbo’s doorstep. In my opinion, and remember this is an opinion not a fact, the major undoing of Ndi’Igbo is their misunderstanding of the term strength. Ndi’Igbo erroneously believe all strength is physical. They do not seem to realize that strength is your ability to assert your will on earth and that that ability may not always be physical. The proverb-discretion is the better part of valor-is not understood by the Igbo. They tend to be reactionary and consider pausing to study a situation before you respond (not react) as cowardice. One or two of them may get it, but as a race in general they do not. 
 
They do not consider diplomacy as a first step. To them it is weakness and makes you an efulefu! If they have an enemy, they are not able to suppress their emotions and work with those they do not like. 
 
They must make their hostility obvious to the person they do not like and being aware of the dislike, the person is armed against them. In an organization, others may be sublime and discrete in their scheming, but the Igbo are more likely to be obvious and in your face about theirs and end up causing unity amongst their enemies in plotting their downfall. As a general rule, Ndi’Igbo have very little humility and are very proud individually though there are few exceptions and I must single out my friend Emeka Maduewesi as one of those exceptions. An epitome of a gentleman! Another example would be Uche Chuta. May God throw up leaders like Uche in Igboland!& For example Since 2010, my white beard has been my trademark. In fact Punch newspapers refers to me as ‘the white bearded Omokri’. Yesterday (May 30th), my grandfather called me and asked me to shave it off because he does not like it. That same day, I obeyed him. 
 
I obey my grandfather at 43 the same way I obeyed him at 3. I am very successful today and I trace my success to the upbringing and prayers I got from my father and grandfather. No money ritual is as effective as a prayer and blessing from your fathers. I may be wrong, but I am not sure that a father or grandfather can have this type of influence on an adult financially and socially successful male in Igbo land. What I did may even be construed as weakness. In my opinion, Ndi’Igbo are also individually more intelligent than their neighbors (I call it as I see it) but they hardly use their intelligence to unite and have one leader, one goal and one destiny. 
 
Because of this, even though they are more intelligent, they are almost always doomed to serve those that are wiser than them because wisdom is superior to intelligence. The Igbo also appear to value leaders because of the leader’s personal attainments in life and so money gives you more leadership credentials than wisdom or age. They forget that a rich man may have more clothes than an elder but cannot have more rags than him. They overestimate the power of money and underestimate the power of wisdom. 
 
If the Igbo can learn humility and practice diplomacy and discipline themselves to have one leader that they listen to in good and bad times not because he is always right but because he is their leader, their marginalization will end and their dominance will begin. These are merely my opinions which may be wrong. Now that I have touched on Ndi’Igbo, perhaps I may also touch on the South in general. There are four things that the South has to understand about the North. One, there is no such thing as Hausa Fulani. It is a myth. There is Hausa and there is Fulani. The second thing is that the Fulani are not our enemies. 
 
They are our rivals for power. Once we make this paradigm shift, our attitudes to seeking political power will change. The third thing is that the Northern elite are experts at brinkmanship. A perfect example is the recent ranting by the chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, the cantankerous Ango Abdullahi, who says that the North is prepared to split from Nigeria. When at Chief EK Clark’s 90th birthday in Abuja, Ango Abdullahi said “I come from Kaduna State, the population according to the 2006 census puts us at 6.3 million. And if you look at the resources that come from the so called federation account to Kaduna, it is one quarter of what Delta gets”, what Nigerians should understand is that he was only playing the game of brinksmanship. Kaduna contributes only 0.1% of the funds that enter the Federation Account and gets 1.4% of the monies that leave the Federation Account. Who should complain between Kaduna and Delta? The fourth and final thing is that too many Southerners are filled with hostility for the Hausa people. Unbeknownst to but a few of us down South, there are very few actual Hausa people in the North. Hausa is more of a language than a people. 
 
Most of those we in the South label ‘Hausa’ in the North are a motley crew of various minority ethnic groups who are bound together by a common lingua franca-Hausa. For decades before Independence these minority groups had been dominated by the Fulani and when Independence came they thought that the more exposed Southerners would come and hand them a hand of fellowship and deliver them from their oppressors but to their shock we greeted them with hostility and sometimes open hatred and a wise sage like Sardauna Ahmadu Bello opened up his hands to them through his policy of One North and empowered Northern minorities like Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sunday Awoniyi and co. Who knows, he may have done the same with the South and created a truly ‘One Nigeria’, if his life had not been tragically cut short in the coup mistakenly called Nzeogwu coup but which was actually masterminded by Emmanuel Ifeajuna with Nzeogwu being slightly more than a pawn in the game. Ahmadu Bello was not a tribalistic leader. But he was a regional leader. He was suspicious of Southerners in general and he had something akin to disdain and maybe even contempt for Ndi’Igbo. It is an inconvenient truth that cannot be denied. Even his hardcore followers cannot deny this. He is caught on video articulating this view and these videos are now on YouTube. 
 
Some of Sir Ahmadu Bello’s successors have built upon the foundations he laid and have matured to be great patriots. For instance, despite what the media has written about him to exaggerate his faults, the fact remains that former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is one of the most patriotic Nigerians alive. Only President Olusegun Obasanjo can be said to be more patriotic than General Babangida in contemporary Nigerian history. How do I mean? Consider this; In 1998 after Abacha died and Babangida’s protege, General Abdulsalami Abubakar became head of state, President Babangida engineered the shift of political power from the North to the Southwest and specifically to President Olusegun Obasanjo. For those who think that he had to do this let me ask you a question: What would have happened if the 1999 Presidential election had been thrown open to all and sundry, and not just restricted to the Southwest, and a Northerner like Atiku Abubakar or some other credible Northerner had won? Would the Southwest have seceded? Would there have been war in 1999? Would Nigeria have gone the way of Rwanda? No, no, no! There would have been a great discontent in the Southwest, but as long as the results were free and fair, there would have been little the Southwest could have done to change the situation. 
 
Now let me ask a hypothetical question: Placed in that same situation, with Igbo dominance in the military and in government, would an Igbo leader have ceded power to the Yorubas to compensate them for an event like June 12 knowing that even if he did not there was little they could do by way of taking the power from him? Even an Igbo man would agree with me that this is very unlikely. I do not need to ask the question of whether or not a Yoruba man would do this because General Olusegun Obasanjo had already done it in 1979. 
 
It is this statesmanly humility, (having the power to do something that would favour yours and your people’s cause, yet having the conscience and discipline not to do it because it is against the principles of natural justice), that Ndi’Igbo lack in sufficient quantity at their leadership levels. The above reason is why power continues to elude them. It is more than physical. It is spiritual. As James 4:10 says “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” This humility is ingrained into Yoruba and Northern youths from infancy. In the North, youths squat to greet their fathers and their male elders. 
 
In the Southwest, children are taught to prostrate for their elders as a form of greeting. Banky W, is an international star but when he met Dele Momodu, he prostrated before him. Long before him, Sir Shina Peters did that to King Sunny Ade. I doubt that an Igbo man can even muster enough humility to prostrate before his own father how much more an elder! He would consider that as foolishness. And there is nothing unGodly about this. 
 
It is not idolatrous. Many Igbos like to claim Jewish ancestry. Maybe they are right maybe they are not. But Abraham is the father of the Jewish nation. In Genesis 18:2 the Bible records that “Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. 
 
When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.” Look at that “bowed low to the ground”. Abraham prostrated! That act of humility does not take anything from you. But it gives everything to you. You see, a man’s greatest pleasure and need is not money or sex. It is to feel important. It is to be respected. Both religion and science support this position. 
 
In Genesis 1:28 God gave man a charge and said “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion”. It is God Himself that put the desire in man to want to dominate, to want to be respected. According to Sigmund Freud, man is dominated by two urges, the sex urge and the urge to be important. This goes back to Genesis 1:28 ‘be fruitful’ and ‘have dominion’. 
 
Women by and large influence men through the first urge which Freud named ‘Eros’. Men influence other men through another part of the male personality that Freud called ego. Because every man has an ego (the only difference is in size) it is very difficult, if not impossible to influence another man without massaging his ego. Refusal to do so can only end in two ways: Conflict: which arises when two egos collide and one refuses to bow to the other, or Frustration: which arises when one person refuses to work on the ego of a man who has power over him. And let me say that no one can have power over you except he was given that power by God which is why Romans 13:1 says “there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Presidency said Saturday that it has no plans to reject the 2017 Budget which was recently approved by the National Assembly. In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senate, Senator Ita Enang, the presidency explained that at the moment, the budget was being subjected to serious scrutiny. According to him, at the end of the day, if the Presidency discovers grey areas or discrepancies, it would hold a meeting with the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives for both the Executive and the legislature to be on the same page.

Enang’s statement read in full, “The Presidency is working within the constitutional time-frame required to process details of the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly. There is no such plan by it to reject the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly as alleged in some reports. “The Presidency can only assent to the budget or withhold assent as the case maybe. 
 
However, should there be areas needing input, the Presidency would engage the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives. As such, any report suggesting a rejection of the 2017 budget by the presidency is incorrect. “Right now, the Presidency is subjecting every detail of the budget using the available systems at its disposal to ensure the figures appropriated to MDAs are consistent with the realities on ground, while also engaging in consultations. “When the budget was presented to both chambers of the National Assembly for consideration last year by President Muhammadu Buhari, both chambers subjected the document to legislative processes using internal systems at their disposal. 
 
“This, exactly, is what the presidency is actually doing at the moment to ensure what would be eventually assented to sufficiently addresses the nation’s present realities, as not doing so could expose government to a backlash from Nigerians.” It would be recalled that Presidency had last week said that no date has been fixed for assent to the passed 2017 Appropriation Bill, just as it said that consultations as to the signing of the document were still on going. 
 
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Maters, Senate, Senator Ita Enang while responding to when the 2017 budget would be signed into law has simply said that, “Further to several enquiries regarding action on the 2017 Appropriation Bill by the Executive, be informed that Assent to same is not yet scheduled as consultations and engagements are on going. Be please informed.” It would be recalled that the Senate had on May 16th, 2017, explained that the need for authentication of the passed 2017 Appropriation Bill was the rationale behind the delay in the transmission of the document to the Executive arm of government for consideration and assent. 
 
Addressing Journalists on the delay in transmission, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, APC, Niger North who explained that the passage of the budget document does not automatically translate that the document would be transmitted immediately, had said that the Joint committees on Appropriations still must carry out its assignment properly by not relenting on its oars. Senator Abdullahi had said, “After the budget is passed, the appropriation committee has to do some authentication, to avoid just any kind of document flying around. Any moment from now (Tuesday afternoon) today or tomorrow, it would be transmitted to the Presidency. 
 
Let us allow those who have been given certain responsibilities to do their job, which must include certain protocols. “Remember that we had to adjourn and reconvene to approve the votes and proceedings to allow them continue the process. If not, they would not be able to do anything on the document. 
 
If we had waited till today (Tuesday) to approve the votes and proceedings, it means they would have to start today.” The defence on the delay came five days after the National Assembly had on May 11th, passed a total of N7,441,175,486,758 Appropriation Bill, which represented an increase of N143 billion from what was presented last December by President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had presented the N7.298trillion budget to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 14, 2016 and had during the presentation, disclosed that his administration would pay more attention to infrastructure with roads and rail projects enjoying priority attention.

The Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina state has been closed down indefinitely by its Senate following protracted crisis rocking the institution.

Chairman of the Senate of the institution, Armiyau Hamisu Bichi, gave the directive to the closure on Friday evening after an emergency meeting by Senate members. 
 
A circular signed by Bichi, who is also the institution’s acting Vice Chancellor, however, attributed the closure to security reasons. 
 
The circular further read “the Senate of Federal University of Dutsin-Ma at its 10th emergency meeting held on Friday 2nd June 2017 reviewed the security situation in the university and decided to close down the school indefinitely.” 
 
The circular also directed that students of the institution vacate the school immediately. 
 
Credible sources revealed that the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Vice chancellorProfessor Haruna Abdu Kaita , who was on suspension, appeared on the campus on Friday with a high court ruling quashing the suspension. 
 
His appearance reportedly led to a mild protest by some groups of allegedly Christian students. 
 
The development took another dimension when the Vice-chancellor went to perform the Moslems Friday’s afternoon Jumaat prayers after which some Islamic students and workers of the institution urged him on to go and resume in his office. 
 
Sensing breakdown of law and order, the institution’s Senate reportedly hurriedly held the emergency meeting where the decision to close down the institution was taken. 
 
The situation remained tense on the campus as at Saturday with many workers seen around anticipating another round of crisis on Monday when the Vice-chancellor allegedly vowed to resume fully. 
 
No official of the institution was ready to comment on the development as this correspondent was referred to the circular announcing the closure of the institution.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union of Nigeria have spoken against Friday’s sack of 145 staff of Television Continental and Radio Continental.

The unions, in interviews on Saturday in Lagos, said that due process was not followed in the exercise, which the unions said they would take up with the management of the media organisations. 
 
Lagos NUJ Council Chairman, Mr Deji Elumoye, said that investigations had revealed that TVC had a lopsided remuneration system where a few expatriates and management staff earned more salaries than the entire workforce. 
 
 
 
Elumoye said that the sack was ill-timed, as according to him, the organisation was clocking 10 years and was supposed to be celebrating its anniversary. 
 
“We even have the case of an expatriate whose salary is more than half of the salaries of the entire workforce that has been sacked.

“I do not know why the company had that type of structure at the top, where an individual is earning more than what the 145 disengaged staff were earning. 
 
“The sack came at a very wrong time when the media is going through a trying period and we believe the management did not get their priorities right,” he said. 
 
The NUJ council chairman said that the method of disengagement did not comply with labour laws. 
 
Elumoye explained that information available to the union showed that the staff were served letters after a long wait, without their severance packages. 
 
“We want to engage the management on why they were disengaged the staff without provision for their severance packages. 
 
“It has been in the news for some time, the management ought to have worked on it and given them their cheques, compute their entitlements and also give it to them. 
 
“To us, an injury to one is an injury to all and that is why we (the NUJ) will engage the management on why they should do this, especially when they are talking of their 10th anniversary,’’ he said. 
 
The chairman explained that by next week, the union would take up the issue to see if the management could reverse its decision. 
 
He said that information available to the union showed that the entire workforce of TVC was about 300, adding that 145 were too many to be laid off at once. 
 
“What are the parameters used in laying off more than half of the workforce and why such a drastic decision?’’ he asked. 
 
Mr Dare Durosimi, Lagos Council Chairman, RATTAWU, said that the sack was wrong and ill-timed. 
 
“I think this happened because of the economic situation. They want to restructure to make more money; all the same, we are shocked about this. 
 
“We will go into the issue to know what happened so that we can come up with an official position. 
 
“We will visit the organisation and also see the affected staff, so as to take necessary action. 
 
“Even if the sacked staff officially belong to our union or not, the union would still stand for them,’’ he said. 
 
Also, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists during its monthly congress in Ikeja on Saturday condemned the sack. 
 
Mrs Stella Sawyer of Tell Magazine and Mrs Julie Agu of Lagos Information, who discussed the issue under the State of the Nation, at the congress, expressed sadness on how the sacked journalists would be able to cope with the recession. 
 
Mrs Iyabo Ogunjuigbe of Radio Lagos/Eko FM, however, advised female journalists to seek alternative sources of income to stem the disappointment of job losses. 
 
“If you do not leave your organisation, the organisation would leave you. This is a wake-up call for us to learn additional skills and do something on the sidelines, to earn additional income,’’ Ogunjuigbe added. 
 
The Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd (CBS), managers of Television Continental (TVC), and Radio Continental in Lagos, on Friday, laid off 145 staff. 
 
A statement issued by the management of the media outfit said the decision was part of its effort to restructure its enterprises. 
 
The media outfits are reportedly owned by Chief Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos State.

British ISIS fighter popularly known as ‘Jihadi Jack’ has begged to be released from a Syrian jail after he allegedly joined the terrorist group so he can return to the UK and “explain some things” to his mum.

Jack Letts, 21, hit the headlines last year amid reports that he had flown to the war-torn country from his middle-class Oxford home to fight on the front-line with the terror group. 
 
Speaking to the Alaraby television network, Jack – who has denied claims he joined ISIS – revealed he is being held by the Kurdish militia and has “no idea” what will happen to him next. 
 
In footage seen by the Oxford Mail, he told interviewers: “What do I want? I suppose initially I want to get out of prison, because I’m currently still in prison with the YPG [Kurdish militia in Syria], and, eventually, just continue my life. 
 
“I have no idea what is going to happen to me now. It’s the future, no one knows except for Allah. I want to see my mum, and explain to her some things.” 
 
It comes after Jack’s parents, John Letts and Sally Lane, spoke out about their torment over not knowing whether their son was alive. 
 
The couple was charged with terrorism-related offences last June and spent five nights in jail for trying to send their son money. 
 
They were bailed and will stand trial later this year. 
 
On Thursday, Sally confirmed she and her husband had been told about Jack’s current situation. 
 
She told the Oxford Mail she was “immensely relieved” that Jack was alive and detained. 
 
Jack, now called Ibrahim or Abu Muhammed, grew up as a talented student and a Liverpool football supporter in Oxford. 
 
But when he turned 18, he secretly travelled to the city of Raqqa after telling his parents he was going to Kuwait to study Arabic, it is claimed. 
 
During his time in Syria, he posted snaps of himself holding weapons and claimed he narrowly survived a drone strike. 
 
Jack apparently kept in contact with British friends via a Facebook page, on which he posted numerous images of himself in his new home country. 
 
In one shot, he was seen praising Allah while dressed in combat-style clothing near the Taqba Dam in Syria, it was reported. 
 
The Facebook page has since been taken down, but an old profile remains active on the site. 
 
On the profile, Jack appears to deny being in Syria or Iraq with ISIS. 
 
In response, Jack said: “I’m not in this place, this is far away from where I am.” 
 
His friend replied: “Good, so where are you now? Are you abroad?” 
 
In his newest interview, he claims ISIS was losing territory in Syria and Iraq because the group which has committed numerous atrocities had not ‘applied Islam properly from the beginning’. 
 
He added: “That is why Allah is not helping them.”

The Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday, advised members of the public to disregard false reports of a bomb blast in Oshodi area of Lagos.

The spokesman of the command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole said in a statement on Saturday that report of the purported blast in the social media was absolutely false. 
 
“We would like to allay the fears of the general public with regards to the falsehood being circulated on the social media in respect of security situation at Mafoluku-Oshodi and environs. 
 
“Oshodi is relatively calm and not boiling as being erroneously peddled. It is mischief and callousness to put people in fear. 
 
“Video footage being circulated to back the false information is that of the bomb incident around Banex Plaza, Abuja in 2014. 
 
“The Lagos State Police Command avail this opportunity to reassure members of the public that we will continue to work in partnership with the good people of Lagos and other Security Agencies to ensure safety and security of lives and properties.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has denied that the upper chamber of the National Assembly is proposing an increment of the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) by N5 as part of measures to generate funds for roads repairs and maintenance.

The Special Assistant to the Senate President on New Media, Mr. Bankole Omisore, in a statement on Saturday, denied the reports that the legislature had the plan. 
 
As part of the recommendations in the report by the Senate Committee on Works on the National Roads Fund Establishment Bill 2017, a levy of N5 will be imposed on every litre of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automobile General Oil (diesel) imported or refined in the country. 
 
The panel also proposed tolling on federal roads and 0.5 per cent of transport fares paid by passengers using mass transit for inter-state trips to generate fund for the rehabilitation and maintenance of road infrastructure in the country. 
 
Omisore, however, explained that at the public hearing on the National Roads Fund Bill, the stakeholders were unanimous on the need to access a percentage of the funds for sustainable maintenance of roads from the pricing template of petroleum products. 
 
He said while the unanimity was on a percentage, opinions varied as to what percentage. “Some argued for 25, 11, 7 and 5 per cent of the value of the price of the product,” he noted. 
 
Saraki’s aide pointed out that what the Senate adopted was “the minimalist approach to ensure that our roads can come back to life.”

The 93-year-old Zimbabwean President, Mr. Robert Mugabe, has launched a nationwide 10-venue speaking tour aimed at drumming up support ahead of elections next year when he plans to seek office again.

Mugabe, who appeared in better health than at some recent public appearances, spoke for an hour and a half at a rally outside Harare attended by several thousand ZANU-PF supporters. 
 
The ruling ZANU-PF party is widely seen as divided over Mugabe’s successor, while opposition parties are in talks to unite to try to oust him in the election. 
 
“We want our party to remain united and not divided. If you are a real ZANU-PF member, be true to your party,” Mugabe said at the rally in Marondera. 
 
He urged those seeking to succeed him to “be at peace”. 
 
“The time will come,” he said. “It’s certainly coming.” 
 
ZANU-PF officials say Mugabe is focusing on youth issues at the series of “interface rallies” in each of Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces. 
 
Mugabe has slurred his words in interviews this year and struggled to walk in public, but he stood up throughout his long speech on Friday. 
 
He wore a jacket in the party colours, and arrived at the open-air venue standing on the back of a police truck and waving at cheering supporters. 
 
“President Robert Mugabe is our sole candidate for 2018. We declare you our life president,” Kelvin Mutsvairo, a provincial youth party leader, said in his speech. 
 
A banner at the rally called Mugabe “the father of youth empowerment” and urged young people to register to vote in the elections. 
 
Mugabe has ruled since independence in 1980, and ZANU-PF are often accused of election rigging and voter intimidation. 
 
The strong man was born 21st February, 1924, who has been President since 1987. 
 
He previously led Zimbabwe as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1987.</div>

Europe should host the 2030 World Cup, not the country who is the highest bidder, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has told the BBC.

The 49-year-old Slovenian, who replaced disgraced Frenchman Michel Platini at the top of European football last September, added he didn’t want to single out China with regard to the money factor. 
 
This week, smartphone maker Vivo became the latest World Cup sponsor from China following conglomerate Wanda and electronics company Hisense. That has lent more ammunition to those who believe they will bid for the 2030 edition. 
 
China’s President Xi Jinping is a devoted football fan and is eager to host the tournament with his ultimate desire for the country to win the trophy itself. 
 
“I didn’t want to speak just about China, but the most important thing is that the World Cup should go to the country that has the best bid,” Ceferin told the BBC ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final in Cardiff between holders Real Madrid and Italian giants Juventus. 
 
“Rules cannot change just because we have some big sponsors.” 
 
However, Ceferin is adamant that Europe should host the 2030 showpiece and believes that based on FIFA’s rotational policy it is their turn. 
 
Russia will host 2018 and Qatar — who fall under the auspices of the Asian Football Confederation — will host 2022, with 2026 yet to be allocated though likely to go to North America, who have a historic joint United States, Canada and Mexico bid in the ring. 
 
“It’s simply time for us (Europe) to host the World Cup in 2030,” said Ceferin. 
 
“I cannot say which country will place a bid from Europe, but we cannot just sell the World Cup to the ones who want to pay the most.” 
 
The Slovenian added that if England or a joint British bid were to declare an interest in 2030 they would receive his full backing. 
 
“It just has to be a decision not just of the (English) FA, probably also the government and others too,” said Ceferin. 
 
“But they deserve to have a World Cup in the near future. 
 
“They are capable of organising the World Cup, of that I’m sure. If they decide to go, we will strongly support them.”</div>

Labour leaders on Saturday described the sack of 145 workers by Continental Broadcast Services Ltd (CBS) as a national embarrassment.

CBS is the owner of Television Continental (TVC) and Radio Continental. 
 
Labour leaders who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Lagos condemned the mass lay-off. 
 
Mr Deji Elumoye, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State, said the sack was unnecessary and embarrassing to the nation. 
 
According to Elumoye, the sack is uncalled for especially at a time when media houses, including TVC, are under-staffed. 
 
"In most media houses, journalists are overworked. One person covers two to three beats and now they have been sacked. It is unacceptable”, he said. 
 
The NUJ chairman said CBS had the right to hire and fire but should have endeavoured to pay workers their entitlements before issuing the sack letters. 
 
He said the sack was a wrong way to celebrate the organisation’s 10 years anniversary achieved by the workers. 
 
Mr Bobboi Kaigama, President, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), also condemned the sack, assuring that the organised labour would look into it soon. 
 
"The leaders of the NLC and TUC are in Geneva for the International Labour Organisation conference. We will take action on it when we return”, Kaigama said. 
 
Also, TUC Secretary General, Mr Musa Lawal, told NAN that the number of workers sacked was unacceptable because it would increase the level of poverty already suffered by the people. 
 
Lawal said that it was not proper for the private sector employer to sack that number of workers at once over little economic shakeup while expatriates are retained and paid in hard currency.</div>

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has vowed to use all legal means to recover N50.5 billion allegedly looted by the immediate past administration ex-Gov. Ibrahim Shema.

Masari made this vow in Katsina on Saturday while receiving the Report of the Commission of Inquiry that investigated the whereabouts of some funds and property under Shema’s administration. 
 
“Now that the commission of inquiry has established that over N50.5 billion is looted, we shall use all legal means to recover the money. 
 
“The looted funds belong to the people of Katsina state and we are ready to follow due process in the courts to retrieve the money from the officials of the past administration. 
 
“The people of Katsina state need the money back so that it can be used to provide social amnesties to them. 
 
“We are determined to retrieve the funds from those that looted same and no amount of legal huddles will prevent us from collecting the state money. 
 
“The commission of inquiry has used legal procedures to unearth the financial scandals from the documents that were presented before it. 
 
“The State Government will use the facts that were presented before the commission of inquiry to prosecute those that committed the offence. 
 
“The Katsina state government has no intention to leave the money. All those involved will have to return the money”, he said. 
 
The governor said those involved had tried to stop the commission from sitting and caused the disqualification of Justice Mohammed Surajo, the former Chairman of the commission by an appeal court in Kaduna. 
 
Chairman of the Commission, Ado Mohammed, said it received 12 memoranda. 
 
Mohammed added that three of the memoranda were abandoned by the writers while two were disqualified for lack of relevance to the investigation. 
 
The chairman said eight of the memoranda were useful to the commission as they had revealed how state funds were diverted by the officials of the past administration. 
 
“During the six months of the commission’s sitting, it discovered that N50.5 billion belonging to the Katsina Government had been diverted by ex-Gov. Shema and his cohorts," he said. 
 
NAN reports that the Katsina state government set up the panel to investigate the alleged missing funds within the last nine months of former Gov. Shema’s administration. </div>

Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue has expressed optimism that the All Progressive Congress (APC) would win the ongoing local government elections in the state.

“I am very impressed with the organisation of the exercise and the massive turnout; I am happy that people are excited to vote. I am optimistic that the APC will sweep the polls,” Ortom said in Guma, shortly after casting his vote. 
 
The governor, who voted at 10.35 am, at Ako polling unit, Ndzorov ward of Guma, urged Benue residents to vote credible and tested candidates so as to ensure the best for the state. 
 
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he insisted on holding the election “to install democracy and instill discipline, accountability and sanity in local government administration”. 
 
Ortom said that the APC took its campaign to all parts of the state to sell its candidates to the voters, and expressed hope that the “change” message had taken roots in the state. 
 
He urged the people to take advantage of the exercise to install democratic structures that would do their bidding, especially in the rural areas. 
 
Ortom commended the peaceful conduct of the electorate, saying that adequate security arrangement had been put in place toward a peaceful exercise. 
 
He also commended the Federal High Court, Makurdi over its June 2 judgement that gave the electoral body the nod to conduct the polls, declaring that it was wrong for the rival PDP to seek to use its internal crisis as an excuse to stop the elections. 
 
The court had thrown out an appeal by the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP, seeking to stop the election following the rejection of its candidates by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC). 
 
A NAN correspondent, who monitored the election in Gwer East, Makurdi, Guma, Tarkaa, Gboko and Butruku Local Governments, however, observed that there was a low turnout of voters for the exercise. 
 
NAN also observed that election materials arrived very late in many polling units, with some still waiting for the materials at 12 noon. 
 
The last local government election in Benue was conducted in 2012.

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has criticised the proposed N5 petrol levy by the Senate, describing it as a huge joke.

Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the South-West Chairman of NUPENG, said in Lagos on Saturday that the proposal was ill-timed and also smacked of insensitivity to the current economic hardships facing Nigerians. 
 
He wondered how the nation’s Upper Chamber could think of another fuel price increase when Nigerians were “striving to 
cope with the current harsh economic realities”. 
 
“How can the Senate propose such a bill at this particular period when poor Nigerians can hardly feed themselves? 
 
“The prices of foodstuffs have tripled in the market, while workers’ salary has not been increased,” Korodo said. 
 
Sen. Kabiru Gaya (APC-Kano), the Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, had on June 1, presented a bill entitled, “National Roads Bill” to the House. 
 
The bill recommends that Nigerians should pay N5 levy on every litre of imported petroleum products and that levy will form part of the proposed national roads fund. 
 
It also recommends the deduction of 0.5 per cent on fares paid by passengers travelling on interstate roads to commercial mass transit operators as well as the return of toll gates on federal roads, among others.

The Benue Police Command on Saturday confirmed the arrest of one Kuma Tyosaar who was found with a pistol in Konshisha Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bashir Makama, who confirmed the arrest, however, said the incident had nothing to do with the ongoing local government polls in the state. 
 
“Tyosaar was arrested as a normal criminal, though on an election day,” he said. 
 
He said the arrest was “an isolated incident”, and assured voters that adequate security had been put in place to ensure peaceful conduct of the election. 
 
Makama commended the people of Benue for their peaceful conduct, and urged members of the public to report any security breach to the nearest police station. 
 
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) sources, however, indicated that Tyosaar was found with the gun at Club House, Tseagerebga, where election materials were distributed. 
 
He was alleged to be a member of one of the political parties taking part in the elections. </div>

About 14 persons have allegedly been killed in Sime-Tai Community, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, following an invasion of the area on Thursday night by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

It was gathered that unknown gunmen invaded the community, shooting sporadically; a development that left many dead while several others had bullet wounds. 
 
 A source within the area, who confirmed the incident to Southern City News on telephone stated that the remains of the victims had been deposited in the mortuary. 
 
The development, according to the source, has caused uneasy calm in the area as some people were seen, Friday, leaving for the neighbouring communities. 
 
 It will be recalled that on Saturday, a gateman attached to a politician in Sime and his uncle were killed by unknown gunmen. 
 
 In a related development, over six persons have been allegedly kidnapped in a fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area of the state. 
 
 A source privy to the situation, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the abductors came into Asaramatoru community in two gunboats and seven speedboats. 
 
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident in Tai to our correspondent, but added that the casualty figure had not been ascertained. 
 
“Yes, I can confirm to you that the incident happened in Tai, but we are yet to confirm the casualty figure. Investigation is ongoing,” Omoni stressed. 
 
 But the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for House of Representatives, Oyigbo, Eleme-Tai Federal Constituency in the 2015 elections, Dr. Jacobson Nbina, who is a native of the affected community, described the killings as political. 
 
 Nbina insisted that over 20 members of the PDP were killed in the attack while some others were still missing. 
 
 He said, “My brothers and sisters, please help to pray for Sime community. The worst has just happened to me again! I earlier informed you of last weekend’s invasion of my home and the brutal killing of my security guard and my uncle with my driver escaping with bullet wounds at my gate. 
 
 “As I speak to you, over 20 PDP youths of my community, Sime-Tai, were brutally murdered and several others taken away alive as unknown gunmen invaded my community midnight of yesterday,” Nbina stated.</div>

The Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd, owners of Television Continental, and Radio Continental, on Friday, laid off 145 staff.

A statement issued by the management of the media outfit said the decision was part of its effort to restructure the enterprises. 
 
According to the statement, the restructuring is geared towards repositioning the business for better and greater delivery of its services to its audiences and advertisers. 
 
The organisation explained that in line with the changes, it would reconfigure its workforce, as part of the rationale to achieve its objectives. 
 
“A total of 145 people are affected by Friday’s announcement,’’ the statement said. 
 
“We wish to make clear that our core channels consisting of TVC News Nigeria, TVC Entertainment, and Radio Continental, will now become the main focus of our business going forward, where we will deliver high-quality news and entertainment programmes to our audiences and advertisers across Nigeria and beyond. 
 
“The winding down of TVC News Africa will allow us to concentrate on these key areas of our business,” it added. 
 
The statement explained that the CBS Board of Directors has also approved a substantial new investment in its staff across the group of companies which would enable it to substantially enhance its news and current affairs output on TVC News, entertainment programming on the market, TVC general entertainment channel and its key radio asset, Radio Continental. 
 
“For those staff members affected by today’s announcement, the Board of CBS Ltd has approved a generous severance package, in addition to a programme of assistance to enable them to seek new employment,’’ the statement said. 
 
The media outfit is reportedly owned by Chief Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former governor of Lagos State.

The Federal Government may ask the Federal High Court in Abuja to revoke the bail granted to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, on grounds of alleged breach of the conditions of the bail granted him in April.

Top sources in the Federal Ministry of Justice, the body prosecuting the IPOB leader, told our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because they had no authority to speak to journalists on the matter, that alleged breaches of the bail conditions by Kanu were being noted. 
 
They said the prosecuting authorities were taking records of the alleged breaches, reviewing them and would take “the necessary step at the appropriate time.” 
 
Part of the major conditions of the bail which Justice Binta Nyako had granted Kanu on April 25, 2017, included prohibition from granting press interview. 
 
The judge also barred Kanu from participating in any rally and warned that he should never be found in any crowd of more than 10 persons. 
 
One of the sources in the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, said although without going into details, “Kanu had been found to have flouted some of the conditions (he was given).” 
 
The source added, “We are taking note of his conducts which were in breach of the conditions of the bail granted him. 
 
“We are reviewing them and we will take the necessary action at the appropriate time.” 
 
When asked if part of “the necessary steps” would be to ask for the revocation of the bail, the source said “of course, the consequence of any breach of bail conditions is the revocation of the bail.” 
 
When pressed to give details of the noticed breaches, one of the sources said, “It will not be appropriate to reveal the details now. 
 
“But anybody who has been following the events would clearly see the breaches.” 
 
The trial resumes on July 11. 
 
Although, his co-accused had also filed separate bail applications, Kanu was the only one granted bail, among the four defendants standing trial on charges bordering on Biafra agitation. 
 
The other accused persons charged along with Kanu were the National Coordinator of IPOB, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe; an IPOB member, Benjamin Madubugwu, and a former Field Maintenance Engineer seconded to the MTN, David Nwawuisi. 
 
After the judge struck out six out of the 11 counts preferred against the defendants on March 1, 2017, the defendants were left with five charges. 
 
The charges included conspiracy and treasonable felony by allegedly conspiring among themselves to broadcast on Radio Biafra agitation for the secession of Republic of Biafra from Nigeria. 
 
They were also accused of improper importation of goods and illegal possession of firearms. 
 
Among the charges was also publication of defamatory matter by allegedly referring to the then President-elect, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as “a paedophile, a terrorist,  an idiot, and an embodiment of evil” in a broadcast on Radio Biafra on April 28, 2015. 
 
Justice Nyako had after the case was transferred to her denied bail to all the four defendants. 
 
But they filed their bail applications again after part of the charges preferred against them were struck out by the court. 
 
In her ruling on April 25, 2017, Justice Nyako only granted bail on health grounds to Kanu, who had been in detention since 2015. 
 
The judge, however, barred the IPOB leader from granting press interview while on bail. 
 
The judge also gave a stern warning to the defendant not to participate in any rally or be found in a crowd of more than 10 persons in the course of the bail. 
 
She ordered Kanu to submit to the court monthly reports on his health status while on bail. 
 
Justice Nyako noted that she had observed that Kanu always had to sit down in the dock whenever he appeared in court, a development which she said could be an indication that he was suffering from an ailment that could not be treated in prison. 
 
She, therefore, granted bail in the sum of N100m with three sureties in like sum. 
 
Kanu has been receiving visitors since his release from Kuje Prison, where he had spent 18 months in detention. 
 
Last weekend, Kanu had addressed a crowd of supporters, who were more than 10, at his father’s palace in Abia State as his father is the traditional ruler of Isiama Afara community in the state. 
 
Three days later, Al Jazeera published an interview where Kanu was quoted as describing his bail conditions as too stringent and saying, “I don’t care”, when asked if the interview could put him in trouble. 
 
“It’s like asking me not to breathe. I can’t go outside to call for a press conference. I can’t go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can’t allow large groups of people to basically congregate outside to see me,” he had reportedly added. 
 
The IPOB leader had also declared a sit-at-home campaign in the South-East on Tuesday to protest against alleged marginalisation of the region by the Federal Government. 
 
Meanwhile, a group, South-East Peoples Assembly, in a letter signed by its President, Prince Chukwuemeka Okorie, had on Wednesday, asked the court to revoke Kanu’s bail for violating its conditions. 
 
When contacted on Friday, Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said it was not for the prosecution to determine whether or not his client had violated the bail conditions. 
 
Ejiofor said it was the exclusive responsibility of the court to decide whether or not the bail conditions had been violated. He, however, added that some of the conditions the defendant was being touted to have violated were unconstitutional. 
 
He promised to file an application to set aside the “unconstitutional” bail conditions. 
 
Ejiofor said, “It doesn’t lie in their power to determine whether he has breached the bail conditions or not. 
 
“The court gave the bail on supplementary and other main terms. The court knows the terms on which it granted the bail. 
 
“I have been able to clarify this issue – the fact that the court said he cannot be found in the crowd of more than 10 persons does not mean he cannot go to church; it does not mean he cannot entertain visitors in his house. 
 
“It is on that note that we are going to file an application to vacate those terms. 
 
“I can tell you that the court is fully aware that he would attend church and he would receive family members. 
 
“These are his rights under the fundamental human rights in Chapter 4 of the Constitution.” 
 
Reacting to allegations of his client granting press interviews in breach of his bail conditions, Ejiofor said, “Freedom of expression is part of the rights he (Kanu) is entitled to under the Constitution. 
 
“We are filing an application before the court to set aside the terms that are clearly in violation of the Constitution.”</div>

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru, has confirmed that Premier League side Arsenal, are keen to sign him from his Belgian club, Eupen.

The Gunners have reportedly made a £6.8million bid, in order to activate the 19-year-old’s release clause, after he scored 24 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season. 
 
In a video interview with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Soundcloud, he gave updates on a possible transfer and expressed his admiration for Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. 
 
“It is a good feeling that a club like Arsenal are coming to Eupen,” Onyekuru said. 
 
“Like I said before it’s due to the hard work I kept doing in training and in games. So I’m waiting and working towards it and we see how it (the Arsenal move) goes after the qualifier (against South Africa). 
 
“I am very happy being compared to Thierry Henry because he has always been my idol since I was a kid. I love watching him play. 
 
“Then at home I love watching Arsenal and going through YouTube to watch most of his games. I remember too in the Belgian press, I said if I have to move, I would move to the Premier League and I want to be like Thierry Henry. So it’s just like a dream come true and I’m working towards it at the moment. 
 
“In football, you cannot predict anything (on Super Eagles missing back-to-back AFCONs), and anything is possible in football. It’s not that we don’t have a good team but we were not just lucky enough to be there. 
 
“But now with the team spirit and work of the coaches and staff, I believe we are going to make it this time. 
 
“The staff, coaches and senior players have all been kind. They’ve been showing a lot of love to me, taking me as a brother and trying to give me confidence in the field because it’s my first national camp so a lot of encouragement from them and advice.

Most roads closed at midnight on Friday and will not reopen until Sunday morning, with people warned not to drive into the city. 
 
According to BBC, police are set to enforce additional stop and search powers as part of a massive security operation to contain insecurity and likely terror attack.. 
 
South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Richard Lewis said: “We will have in the region of 2,000 police officer deployments across Cardiff, with every officer fully aware of the huge task ahead and committed to ensuring residents and visitors to the capital have a safe and enjoyable experience. 
 
“We continue to advise people who don’t have tickets to the match to avoid travelling by car or public transport to the city centre due to the unprecedented influx of visitors we are expecting. 
 
“For those who have tickets, our advice is to allow extra time for travel and security checks and to remain vigilant throughout the day. You are also advised not to bring a bag to the stadium, there will bag drops across the city.” 
 
Drivers have also been banned from all roads around the National Stadium of Wales, Callaghan Square and the Capitol Shopping Centre 
 
Meanwhile, the police is also investigating the theft of 13 tickets for the final from a hotel near Cardiff Airport and warned anyone buying tickets off the street could be refused entry to the stadium if they turn out to be stolen.</div>
