In a new development, the humorous actress noted that she decided to talk about it because she felt the need to speak for others who might be suffering from such experiences. 
 
According to her: “I alleged that he molested me sexually. For the record, when the whole thing started, I informed my family and a few older people in the industry about it. They asked me to keep calm and move on. If I wanted to institute an action then, I would have (done so). 
 
“I felt I needed to be at peace with my mind as regards the issue, and to give a voice to whoever is suffering or has suffered the same fate as mine, hence the outburst. Like I said on my Instagram page, the molestation of a woman is a desecration of her values. Rape trend or not, we all have our ways of addressing issues peculiar to us.

“For the record again, I maintain my stand and I reiterate all I have said without any equivocation, save for the fact that I do not intend to do further than I have done so far, having found my peace, and because of the intervention of some persons I respect like Mr Latin and Mr Yinka Quadri.

The police in Ondo State have given details of how suspected herdsmen in a kidnap attempt, shot and killed Funke Olakunrin, the second daughter of Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti. 
 
Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, said the incident occurred between Kajola and Ore along Ondo-Ore road on Friday. 
 
Recall that Afenifere’s spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, had earlier insinuated on Friday evening that “Mrs Funke Olakunrin, based on accounts of all eyewitnesses, was killed by Fulani herdsmen who emerged from the bush, shot her and killed her in the process.” 
 
Odumakin said the late Olakunrin was travelling from Akure to Ore when her vehicle was attacked alongside others.

However, the police spokesperson Joseph confirmed the attack and the death of Olakunrin said he was not aware the deceased was related to the Afenifere Chairman. 
 
“It happened at a spot between Kajola and Ore, where some hoodlums numbering about 15, attacked two vehicles, 1 Toyota Land Cruiser and 1 Camry,” Joseph on Friday night. 
 
“The the Land Cruiser was carrying five passengers, including the deceased, which we later identified as one Funke Olakunrin. 
 
“They shot the woman, we rushed her to the hospital, but we lost her. 
 
“Other four occupants that were abducted, we have rescued them. 
 
“Inside the Camry too, we had three occupants, they were also abducted, but we have rescued them. We have rescued a total of seven persons taken during the attack. 
 
“There is still one person left that we are still looking for, and we are working frantically to ensure that the hoodlums are brought to justice and ensure any other hostages were rescued,” he said. 
 
The police spokesman said he would not confirm if the attackers were Fulani herdsmen, noting that until an arrest was made, it would be difficult to identify the persons and where they came from. 
 
“No, you can’t shave the head of a man in his absence,” Joseph said. “You have to wait for us to arrest them. Somebody you have not arrested, it is difficult for you to establish his ethnicity.” 
 
He said crime does not have colour, ethnicity or religion, adding that “crime is a crime and a criminal is a criminal.” 
 
Afenifere is at the forefront of the campaign against the building of cattle settlement for herdsmen earlier promoted by the federal government. 
 
The group had earlier raised the alarm over the rising wave of violent activities of herdsmen in the south-west region, calling on the governors and security agencies to rise up to the situation to save the nation from an impending armed conflict. 
 
The governors of the south-west had also responded to an alarm by summoning a security summit where they had resolved to tackle the problems of herdsmen and kidnapping.

Samuel Uche, head of Methodist Church Nigeria, has dismissed the allegation Busola Dakolo levelled against Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">In June, Busola, celebrity photographer and wife of Timi Dakolo, had alleged that she was raped by Fatoyinbo at the age of 16.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Although Fatoyinbo denied the allegation, there was pressure on him to step down. Following protests and social media outcry, the pastor eventually stepped aside for the issue to be investigated.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">In an interview with V.T.N Business Delight on Silverbird Television, Uche said the allegation is an attempt to blackmail and tarnish the preacher’s image.</div>

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might be far from over following the legal action of the  National Vice Chairman (North-West) Inuwa Abdulkadir against the party. 
 
Aside the suing the party, Abdulkadir also gave the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, a seven-day ultimatum to retract an alleged defamatory publication against his person, tender a public apology and pay N500m as monetary compensation or be prepared to face legal action. 
 
These facts were gathered from two separate letters written by the embattled Abdulkabir in response to the party’s invitation for a probe over alleged anti-party activities. 
 
In one of the letters entitled, ‘Re: Allegations of misconduct and disloyalty levelled against you from the North-West Zone of the party,’ written on July 9, 2019, and addressed to the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Niyi Adebayo, who is also the chairman of the APC panel investigating anti-party activities, Abdulkadir said he had taken the party to court and it would be inappropriate for him to appear before the Adebayo-led panel.

In the letter, which was received by the party’s national secretariat on July 10, 2019, Abdulkadir said, “As you may recall, I did inform you that I was in Sokoto at the said time (of invitation) where I would be appearing before the state High Court on the same 4th July 2019 in respect of an action between my humble self and our party, the All Progressives Congress, and others arising from some  false and malicious allegations touching on my integrity  which the petition before your committee is premised.” 
 
He advised the Adebayo-led committee to stay action on its activities and await a final pronouncement on the matter as anything to the contrary would have legal consequences. 
 
In the second letter, which was addressed to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Abdulkadir threatened to institute a separate suit against the party’s spokesperson if remedial actions were not taken to address the defamation of his character within seven days. 
 
In the letter written by Inuwa Abdul-Kadir and Co (solicitors, advocates and consultants), and addressed to the publicity secretary, the national vice-chairman (north), alleged that his reputation was brought to public ridicule by the APC spokesman in an interview published in print and online media. 
 
The solicitors’ letter read in part, “My attention has been drawn by several persons to statements credited to you in the course of making a rejoinder to a  personal letter written by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuiabu, to the National Chairman of the APC (hereinafter referred to simply as the party), Adams Oshiomhole. 
 
“In the said rejoinder, as published by various newspapers and other social media, you were credited with making the following statements concerning Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former national chairman of the party and the entire members of the NWC of the party that served with him. 
 
“The Adams Oshiomhole-led APC yesterday said the party lost some states to the Peoples Democratic Party due to indiscipline and inaction of the NWC under Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. 
 
‘The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in an interview with journalists, said the former NWC led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun lacked the courage to confront the political despots who could not operate by the party’s rules.” 
 
Abdulkadir said he was honoured to have served with Odigie-Oyegun in the NWC, noting that the statement and others like it disparaged their individual and collective reputations in the eyes of the right-thinking members of the society. 
 
Abdulkadir said by virtue of the fact that he held a traditional title in the Sokoto Emirate Council and had, at various times, held public offices, which included Minister for youths and sports of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, attorney-general and commissioner for justice in Sokoto State, Issa-Onilu’s statement was defamatory. 
 
He gave the APC spokesperson seven days ultimatum to, among others, retract his statements or be prepared to meet him in court.

He was young enough to participate at this year’s Under-20 World Cup, but Samuel Chukwueze is assuming a far greater role as a future Nigeria lynchpin with his country attempting to capture a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title. 
 
At 20 years and 49 days, Chukwueze became the youngest scorer at this year’s tournament as he grabbed his first international goal for the Super Eagles in the quarter-final win over South Africa. 
 
It has been a meteoric rise for the youngster, signed by Villarreal in 2017, following a strong debut season in Spain’s top flight which included a goal in April’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Lionel Messi’s Barcelona and a match-winning strike against Girona that lifted his side out the relegation zone for good. 
 
While he may not be cut from the same cloth as the Argentine, comparisons with another left-footed wizard, the recently retired Arjen Robben, are plentiful.

Inspired by the former Dutch star growing up, Chukwueze concedes he would do well to come anywhere close to what Robben achieved as a former Champions League and eight-time Bundesliga winner with Bayern, a World Cup finalist, and league champion at Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSV Eindhoven. 
 
“Chukwueze has a good left foot, is quick, has a low centre of gravity — which gives him very good balance — and can deliver and score,” was Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr’s Robben-esque appraisal of his winger. 
 
 
Yet the German has taken a steady approach to blooding Chukwueze, handing him a start in the opening win over Burundi before restricting him to a pair of substitute appearances over the next three games in Egypt. 
 
– ‘Quality overflows’ – 
“We’re here to win the title. Sitting on the bench doesn’t make me feel bad, it makes me wait for the chance I get to help the team like I did today,” Chukwueze said after his man-of-the-match display against South Africa. 
 
Chukwueze came close to joining Arsenal before arriving at Villarreal, following in the footsteps of striker Ikechukwu Uche, who won the 2013 Cup of Nations with Nigeria during his four-year spell at the Spanish club. 
 
“He has a quality that just overflows and you can’t stop, like a river,” said Villarreal reserve team coach Miguel Alvarez, who helped Chukwueze make the step up to the top tier. 
 
Both he and Victor Osimhen, yet to feature in the tournament here, formed part a core part of Nigeria’s Under-17 World Cup winners from 2015, and forward Ahmed Musa believes Chukwueze will become one of the stars of the senior side. 
 
“I think with time he is going to be one of the best players we have in the Super Eagles team,” Musa told reporters after the quarter-final victory 
 
“The old players in the squad are gradually winding down and will not be here in a couple of years from now. 
 
“So, we definitely need players like them to step up and take over from us.” 
 
Chukwueze was not part of the 2018 World Cup campaign, where a youthful squad failed to go beyond the group stage, but Rohr says the increased maturity and influx of fresh faces will serve return Nigeria well as they target a return to the top in Africa. 
 
Their next test comes on Sunday against an impressive Algeria team that have looked a cut above the rest in Egypt.

The Senate has described as unnecessary the resolution passed by the 8th Senate which mandated the President to attach portfolios to the ministerial nominees’ list. 
 
The Eight Senate under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki had passed a resolution asking the President to indicate the portfolios that would be assigned to the ministerial nominees. 
 
Members of the 8th Senate had argued that such an arrangement would enable the lawmakers to know the specific questions to ask the nominees. 
 
The member representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Bassey Akpan, had received satisfactory nods from his colleagues when he reminded the leadership of the 9th Senate about the resolution passed by their immediate predecessors on the issue.

Akpan had argued that the best way to help the President put the right person in the right position was to know the specific ministry each nominee would handle when they appear for screening. 
 
He maintained that such arrangement would enable the lawmakers to assess the competence of the nominees. 
 
But speaking on behalf of the 9th Senate in an interview with our correspondent on Friday, the spokesperson, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, said it was not mandatory for the President to attach portfolios to the ministerial nominees’ list. 
 
He argued that Presidents of advanced countries like the USA which subscribed to such practice still reserved the right to swap portfolios of their nominees before and after their inauguration. 
 
Adeyeye argued that the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a lawyer, performed well as minister of finance while the late Aminu Kano, a teacher, also did well as the minister of health. 
 
He said, “It is not a constitutional prerequisite neither is it mandatory for the President to assign portfolios to the ministerial nominees. 
 
“Also, Senate up till now has not made any law or any regulation that would insist on that. 
 
“There is nothing, either in the Senate rules or in the Constitution that will compel the President to do that.” 
 
Adeyeye admitted that attaching portfolios to ministerial nominees list would have assisted senators to ask specific questions but insisted that it was not necessary for the parliament to emphasise it. 
 
He said, “Our major concern is to identify the leadership qualities in the nominees being presented to us for screening.’’

The federal government pledged yesterday to do more to enhance the physical development of the oil bearing communities in the Niger Delta in the next four years. 
 
Giving the assurance on behalf of government was Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during a courtesy call on the the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, HRM, Joseph Timiyan I, at Obotobo, Burutu Local Government area of Delta State. 
 
Osinbajo noted that the development agencies created to fill gaps in the region had failed to live up to expectations. 
 
The vice president, who was in Delta state to commission some projects, including the 20.29 KM Obotobo 1- Obotobo 11 – Sokebolou – Yokri Road in Ogulagha Kingdom and the Main Axial Road in Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West council area, said the federal government would consult with the state government to determine areas in need of development.

He was particularly unhappy that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has not been able to meet the expectations of the people of the region. 
 
“The NDDC, in many respects, has not met the expectations of the oil producing states,” he said. 
 
“A lot of money is invested in NDDC and the Ministry of the Niger Delta because the real reason they were created is to speed up the development of oil-rich communities. We will sit with the Delta State Governor to look at specific areas to develop in the creeks.” 
 
He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his achievements in a neighbourhood and area that had not had the type of roads commissioned yesterday. 
 
“We commend him also on several other initiatives in this kingdom in particular, because this has been a very peaceful community and it is a host to several of our oil and gas assets. 
 
“So, it really is a special pleasure to commission these roads and also thank His Royal Highness, (Elder, Capt) Joseph Timiyan, who has maintained the peace in this neighbourhood and who has shown true leadership by the way he has conducted the affairs of this area,” he said. 
 
Governor Okowa, said the Vice President was invited to commission the projects because he visited the creeks in the pursuit of peace and an enabling environment for oil and gas production. 
 
“It is not just the length of the road that makes this project unique; it is that the road is located right beside the Atlantic Ocean with all the human, material, ecological and financial implications that this difficult terrain presents; we did not know we could get this length of road in the creak until the King drew our attention to it. 
 
“I am happy about the progress we have made so far. This has greatly helped to ensure peace in the state, which bodes well for uninterrupted oil production and the health of the national economy. 
 
“We are continuing to use various structures and initiatives to ensure that the peace we have enjoyed in the last three years is sustained.”

Members of the organized labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have entered into dialogue with Ecobank over the Bank’s non-renewal of the contract of its third party recruitment agencies. 
 
The dialogue, which commenced yesterday is expected to be completed today. A source at the meeting confirmed that officials of both bodies had fruitful discussions and was optimistic that a deal would be sealed at the end of today meeting 
 
It would be recalled that officials of NLC in collaboration with its affiliate Nigeria Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution Employees (NUBIFIE) had picketed the head office of Ecobank on Victoria Island on Thursday over what they called non consultation before Ecobank severed relationship with the contract workers, a development they said had thrown some of their members into the labour market. 
 
However, Ecobank management in a statement maintained that it did not disengage its staff, stressing that the bank decided not to renew the contract of its third party recruitment agencies which expired recently and as such returned this category of personnel back to these agencies who were their employers.

The Bank had maintained that it was part its business strategy to invest in the employment of full time graduates, as over 300 graduates were currently undergoing training at its state of the art Academy which was recently accredited by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), adding that they were to be absorbed into the system at the end of their training as permanent staff. 
 
The statement pointed out that “as a demonstration of the Bank’s concern and compassion for the affected personnel of our contractors, palliative measures were put in place by the Bank to cushion the effect on them: These include payment of contract cessation packages of over half a billion Naira already paid through their employers as well as opportunity given to those with requisite qualification to apply to the Bank for permanent employment.” 
 
It added that the Bank also offered them the opportunity to become Xpress point agents of Ecobank as a way of further providing them entrepreneurial and financial empowerment. 
 
The Bank further reiterated that it would continue to align its people composition, development, recognition and rewards to position us as best practice service model in the industry, delivering superior customer service and experience across our network.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the present administration has invested N900 billion in the power sector since its assumption of office in 2015. 
 
Osinbajo stated this when he paid a courtesy visit on the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien on Friday in Asaba. 
 
”Since assumption of office, we have invested so far in terms of support N700 billion in the power sector. Earlier, we invested N200 billion.

The vice president said further that the Federal Government was in the process of investing another N600 billion in the sector. 
 
On futher steps to improve power supply in the country, the vice president said that the federal government had decided to take a second look at the power sector. 
 
According to him, one of the reasons why there are challenges in the power sector is that each of the Distribution Companies (Discos) controls a particular territory. 
 
”And now we are saying that any company that wants to provide power to any territory, should be able to provide power for the territory and the people. 
 
‘We have been able to break the existing monopoly in the power sector. Whether upgrade or not, the discos should be able to serve the people. 
 
”Another strategy we are trying to introduce is to open up the power sector by restructuring,” he said. 
 
On the second Niger Bridge, Osinbajo said that the project was very important to the Federal Government. 
 
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari did not only negotiate for the equipment being used for the construction of the bridge, but is also paying special attention to the project. 
 
“I was here six weeks ago to look at the progress of the work there and I must say that the project is going on well. 
 
“I hope that very soon we should be completing not just the bridge, but also all surrounding infrastructure both here in Asaba and the other end of the bridge,” he added. 
 
Earlier, in his address of welcome, the Asagba of Asaba noted that poor power supply had been a major challenge in the Delta capital and appealed to the federal government to intervene in the situation. 
 
He also appealed to government to compensate the people of Asaba on the 1967 massacre which claimed many lives, by establishing a federal university in the town.

Passengers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, have expressed disappointment in Dana airline meant to fly them from Abuja to Port-Harcourt. 
 
A cross section of the passengers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday at the airport described their experience as unfortunate. 
 
One of the passengers, Mr waribo Kuku, said he was supposed to board Dana flight from Abuja to Port-harcourt since Wednesday (July 10), but no flight was available. 
 
Kuku called on the management of Dana airline to compensate him for the delay and inconvenience.

He also appealed to relevant authorities, such as the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Consumers Protection Council and SERVICOM, to address such grievances and ensure that customers were adequately compensated to serve as adeterrent. 
 
Another passenger, Mr Jerry Wanodi, told NAN that he was booked a Dana flight from Abuja to Port-harcourt since Thursday but couldn’t board the flight due to rescheduling and cancellation of the flight . 
 
Wanodi said that he had been at the airport since 2 p.m on July 11, up till the 6.30 p.m and there was no sign of any Dana Air flight on ground. 
 
Another passenger of the same airline who pleaded for anonymity said he was disappointed with Dana and threatened to sue them for damages. 
 
“I have to go back to my family, you know how women think. It’s like I have been giving excuses on why I haven’t come home yet. 
 
“I am so disappointed with Dana Air and I want relevant authorities to ban Dana from flying in Nigeria 
 
“I also want them to pay compensation to me for keeping me at the airport since Thursday,” he said. 
 
Similarly, Mr Berepelebo George told NAN that he has lost an opportunity to be gainfully employed because of the cancelled flight. 
 
“I have an interview appointment with an organisation in Port-harcourt which I have missed due to flight cancellations. 
 
“I want the relevant authorities to have regulations on airlines to tackle this impunity,” he urged. 
 
Mrs Amaka Ojeka, another sad passenger, described the development as a national embarrassment. 
 
Ojeka narrated how she flew in from Germany, noting that there was no stroller at the international wing and had to wait for 45 minites before she was able to secure one. 
 
She also expresded regretd that she has been waiting to board Dana to Port-Harcourt but found out that there was no aircraft on ground. 
 
“I am disappointed by what is going on at the airport because you can’t find this in a developed society. 
 
“They are not organised and why is Dana not returning my money but they sent a message via email for me to come to the airport and there was no plane on ground. 
 
“I went back and paid a hotel bill of N10,000 as well as airport taxi. 
 
“Government should look into the matter and take appropriate measures to address it,” she said. 
 
The FAAN authorities and Dana Air management were yet to react to the development in spite of media inquiries. 
 
NAN reports that the passengers waiting to board Dana Airline flight to Portharcourt and Lagos have been kept in suspence amidst mounting anxiety. (NAN)

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday struck out a suit challenging the fitness of Justice Tanko Muhammad to hold the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria. 
 
Delivering judgment, Justice Inyang Ekwo struck out the suit on the grounds that the plaintiff, Malcom Omirhobo Foundation, lacked the locus standi to institute the suit.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received another batch of 163 Nigerian returnees who had been stranded in Libya, but assisted to come back home. 
 
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Idris Muhammed, Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Region, NEMA, confirmed the development to journalists on Friday in Lagos. 
 
Muhammed said the returnees arrived the cargo wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 8.33p.m on Thursday aboard a chartered Al Buraq Air aircraft with registration number 5A-DMG. 
 
He said that the returnees were assisted back to Nigeria by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU) under the Assisted Voluntary Returnees Programme.

“After profiling of the returnees, there are 64 adult females, four female children and seven female infants as well as 75 adult males, three male children and 10 male infants,” Muhammed said. 
 
The coordinator advised youths to desist from embarking on perilous journeys that could expose them to avoidable risks in search of greener pastures. 
 
He assured the returnees that the Federal Government, NEMA and other agencies, as well as development partners, would continue to work together to create an enabling environment for young Nigerians.

The 33-year-is-old is reportedly not satisfied at the direction the club is currently heading and had requested to terminate his contract weeks after Arsenal’s Europa League defeat to Chelsea. 
 
The Frenchman is adamant to return to his homeland next season with a three year deal with Bordeaux is supposedly on the table. 
 
He is also said to be considering buying out the remainder of his contract to force a move away from the club. 
 
The center-back currently earns £90,000 per week at Arsenal on a deal that expires next June. 
 
Besides Bordeaux, Rennes and Lyon are also interested in the player but none have approached Arsenal to negotiate a transfer. 
 
Arsenal are open to part with ways the former Lorient man but for a sizeable transfer fee around the region of £10m. 
 
Koscielny has made 255 appearances for Arsenal following his arrival at the club in 2010.

The R&B star R Kelly has been arrested in Chicago and indicted over 13 Federal charges that include child grooming. 
 
Other charges relate to images of child sex abuse and obstruction of justice, said US attorney spokesman Joseph Fitzpatrick. 
 
The 52-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer was already facing state charges of sex abuse towards four women in Illinois, three of whom were minors when the alleged offences occurred. 
 
Kelly has debunked the allegations, pleading not guilty to the Illinois charges. He was later released on bail

The arrest on Thursday night was carried out by New York Police detectives as well as investigators from the Department of Homeland Security, according to NBC News, and it is expected that Kelly will be brought to New York to face the charges. 
 
The singer has strongly denied allegations of abuse for decades, and in 2008 he was tried and found not guilty of making a sex tape with an underage girl. 
 
Kelly, best known for hits including “I Believe I Can Fly” and “Bump N’ Grind,” spent a weekend in jail on the Illinois sex charges before being released on $100,000 bail on 25 February. 
 
Those charges were brought after seven women, including his ex-wife, appeared on a Lifetime television documentary and accused him of emotional and sexual abuse. 
 
Then in June, prosecutors expanded the indictment against him to include 11 felony counts of sexual assault towards a single victim between the ages of 13 and 16. 
 
The alleged abuse against a woman identified only as J.P. was said to have taken place between May 2009 and January 2010. 
 
Kelly pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday called for electoral reforms to strengthen the nation’s democracy. 
 
He said the appointment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and election petition tribunals should not be handled by the President, who he described as a powerful politician. 
 
Dr. Jonathan said it is important that another body outside the Presidency should set up the electoral management body and the tribunal to guarantee impartiality, neutrality and credibility of the process. 
 
The former President also reiterated his call for the implementation of the 2014 National Conference, which he set up, saying the implementation of the report would resolve parts of the national question.

Dr Jonathan spoke at the presentation of a book, titled: The Dream: Pursuing the Black Renaissance Through the Murky Waters of Nigerian Politics, written by Afenifere chieftain, Senator Femi Okunrounmu. 
 
The ceremony, which held at Afe Babalola Hall of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Yaba, was part of the ceremony marking the author’s 80th birthday.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted being under pressure to present the list of ministerial nominees to the National Assembly. 
 
He spoke last night over dinner with the leadership of the National Assembly. 
 
Senate President Ahmed Lawan and House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila were at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. 
 
According to a source at the dinner, the President said he was under tremendous pressure to release the list.

He reportedly said that many of the ministers he appointed in his first tenure were not known to him personally. 
 
The President was said to have expressed his plan “to appoint those he knows, have confidence in and that have the capacity to deliver”. 
 
President Buhari was quoted as saying: “Many at this dinner meeting are saying they want to see the list of the proposed cabinet so that they can go on leave peacefully. 
 
“I’m very much aware about it; I’m under tremendous pressure on it. But the last cabinet, which I headed, most of them, the majority of them I didn’t know them. I had to accept the names and recommendations from the party and other individuals. 
 
“I worked with them for three and half years at least – meeting twice or two weeks in a month. So I know them. 
 
“But, this time around I’m going to be quite me – me in the sense that I will pick people I personally know.” 
 
Addressing reporters after the dinner, Lawan said the Senate was yet to receive the list from the President. 
 
According to him, ministerial lists are not submitted at dinners. 
 
Lawan, who was quoted as saying that the list will be out this week, denied saying so. 
 
When asked if he was now in possession of the ministerial list, he said: “Well, I came for dinner and the process of receiving list is not at dinners. That is all I have to say about this.” 
 
Reminded that he promised Nigerians that the list will get to the Senate this week he said: “I never did. Let me take this opportunity to correct that. A senator raised a point of order under personal explanation and he said we should be sent the list of ministers by the executive arm of government. 
 
“And in my response, I said the executive is working so hard to ensure that the list of Nigerians that will help this Administration work is going to be constituted, we could even receive it this week. 
 
“Could is conditional and I will urge everybody here to report it as it is.” he added 
 
Others at the dinner were: All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole; Senators Abdullahi Yahaya (Majority Leader); Ajayi Boroffice (Deputy Leader); Orji Uzor Kalu (Chief Whip) and Sabi Abdullahi (Deputy Chief Whip).

 There was mild drama on Tuesday at the investigative hearing on the allegation of assault against Senator Elisha Abbo as the embattled Senator said he is not afraid of Suspension. 
 
The Senate had last week set up adhoc Committee to investigate allegation of assault against Senator Abbo at sex toy shop in Abuja. 
 
 
The trouble started when Senator Abbo appeared before the Committee and declined to talk on the matter claiming that the case is before the court of law.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Thursday arraigned 38 members of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky’s Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in an Abuja court. 
 
Twenty-eight of them were arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 6 while 10 others were arraigned in Magistrates Court in Wuse Zone 2. 
 
Twenty-eight of the accused were granted bail with conditions by Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiw and Magistrate Mohammed Ibrahim at Wuse Zone 6 Court. 
 
Ten, according to the magistrates in Wuse Zone 2, would be kept in a good facility outside police cell.

The police said two of the 40 suspects arrested for Tuesday’s violent protest were freed during investigation. 
 
Their arraignment followed the arrest of the members during Tuesday’s violent protest and forceful invasion of the National Assembly. 
 
The sect members’ invasion left nine policemen injured and several vehicles destroyed. 
 
The first information report was read in English and interpreted in Hausa language to the defendants at Court 13 of the Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2. 
 
They were charged with the following offences: criminal conspiracy, mischief, unlawful assembly, obstruction of public servant in the discharge of duty, rioting armed with deadly weapons, causing grievous hurt, disturbance of public peace, assault or criminal force to determine public servant from discharge of his duty contrary to sections 97, 326, 149, 107, 243, 113 and 264 of the Penal Code. 
 
The report reads: “That on July 9, 2019 at 1300 hours (1 p.m), a team of policemen, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) National Assembly police station, Umar Sabo Abdullahi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), while performing their official duty, came across you and others at large who formed a common intention and were behaving in a riotous manner and in possession of dangerous weapons. 
 
“The DPO, in performing his lawful duty, ordered you to disperse but you forced yourselves into the National Assembly, burnt and destroyed many vehicles. You equally snatched a gun from Inspector Ahmed Sani and caused grievous hurt on the following police officers: Umar Sabo Abdullahi, a Superintendent of Police (SP); Ahmed Sani as well as Mohammed Sarki and Joseph Abutu, both Corporals. 
 
“You also destroyed the police post at the National Assembly and shot at two police officers who are now lying critically ill at the hospital. You thereby committed the above offences.” 
 
The 10 defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. 
 
The defence counsel, I. A. Ishaq, urged the court to grant them bail and discharge and acquit the accused on the ground that they denied the allegations. 
 
He said: “All the defendants denied the allegation and in view of their denial, we humbly apply for their bail. We also urge the court to discharge and acquit them on the ground that they are minors and students from various schools. 
 
“Nine of the 10 defendants are minors and students. The adult among them is 51 years old.”

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has attacked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the Big Brother Naija reality TV show go on. 
 
The  Islamic group branded the show being aired on DSTV as ‘immoral, dangerous and Bohemian.’ 
 
BBNaija, is currently making waves in Nigeria amongst young Nigerians as a result of the entertainment they derive from it. 
 
The group made their angst known in a press statement made available to newsmen by it’s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Friday.

The statement read in part: “We are being forcibly dragged to a world of nudity, shamelessness and open promiscuity. Inmates of BBNaija kiss, romance and engage in sex openly. BBNaija is Bohemian, anti-social, crude and immoral. It constitutes a potent danger to every home. BBNaija is Satanic. It is unacceptable. 
 
“Where are our norms and values? Is it part of African culture to engage in sex in the open? Where are the authorities? Is the Ministry of Information and Culture sleeping? Is the National Orientation Agency on sabbatical? Who will protect our children from this despicable onslaught? Who did this to Nigeria? 
 
“This reality show is dragging our children into a life of moral debauchery. It is robbing them of the last vestiges of honour. It is deleting the word ‘shame’ from their vocabulary. BB Naija has alienated our youth from the elders. A yawning lacuna now exists between the young and the old. Irreversible social crisis looms. 
 
“We must see those who woo our young ones with humongous amounts of money, big cars and palatial buildings as those bent on destroying industry, diligence and integrity particularly among the youth. Nothing destroys a nation faster than materialism. The daughters of Jezebel are here already. Unless the authorities move with the speed of lightning, human dignity in Nigeria is going, going, going! 
 
“Or do we not realize that for every single BB Naija inmate who wins big amount of money and a car, more than 50 million young people are misled? Qur’an 30:41 says, ‘Evil has appeared on both land and sea as a result of the handiworks of men…’ The Bible in Ephesians 4:19 was also describing these people when it says, ‘Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.’ 
 
“Already, the desperate quest for wealth by all means has gripped Nigerian youth like hay fever. It has railroaded them into Yahoo Yahoo, ritual killings and a museum mentality for the collection of female panties. Where exactly are we going? 
 
“This development calls for serious concern and we are deeply concerned because we are the Muslim Rights Concern. Our hearts bleed in MURIC. This is the kind of evil that Muslim and Christian leaders should unite to fight with all their strength instead of dissipating their energy on a phantom Islamisation, a mirage called Fulanisation, Maradonic religiousity and gymnastic spirituality. 
 
“We can put an end to this anomaly called BB Naija if Christians and Muslims bury the hatchet and come together to fight evil. Home is home. Moral debauchery knows no religion. The destructive influence of television shows like BB Naija penetrates both Christian and Muslim homes. 
 
“Ditto for the custodians of our culture and tradition. Our traditional rulers ignore a program like this which has all the potentials to diminish the dignity of our culture. They are fighting over who should be chairman of the Council of traditional rulers. They want to be the King of kings and rivals of the Supreme Creator. Who placed a curse on Nigeria? 
 
“Homo sapiens may not respect a single snake when they see one. But can anyone wait to see what follows if the cobra leads and it is faithfully followed by the python, the black mamba, rattle snake, garter snake and the anaconda? So what do you think will happen if our traditional rulers from the East, West and North march on Aso Rock to demand the immediate halt of this horrible show? 
 
“To cap the edifice, MURIC calls for immediate and total ban on this satanic television show. We charge the Ministry of Information and Culture to move swiftly against BB Naija before moral debauchery becomes Nigeria’s middle name. Nigerian youth must be protected from themselves and the time to do so is now. We invite the National Assembly to intervene immediately and we appeal to traditional rulers to add their voices to this campaign.”

There was panic among Nigerians living in South Africa on Wednesday and Thursday after the Super Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. 
 
After the recent murder of the Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Elizabeth Ndubusi-Chukwu, in South Africa, it is reported that the number of Nigerians killed in South Africa in three and half years has risen to 127. 
 
The Nigerians, who spoke to newsmen on the telephone, said they were scared and many of them refused to celebrate the Eagles’ win publicly to avoid being attacked.

Few hours after the match, a Nigerian identified simply as Lekan, specifically warned his countrymen not to go to O.R. Tambo or Motherwell, where a Nigerian, identified as Emeka, was killed last Thursday. 
 
On a WhatsApp group consisting of Nigerians in South Africa, he wrote, “Nobody should go to O.R Tambo or Motherwell after such lousy showing from our team.” 
 
A Nigerian who resides in South Africa, Michael, said many of them could not go to commercial viewing centres and bars to watch the match as a result of fear. 
 
Another Nigerian, who studies in the country, Oke, said, “We were told to avoid wearing the Nigerian jersey until after a week the match was played.” 
 
When contacted, the President of Nigeria Union, South Africa, Mr Adetola Olubajo, said though there may be panic, no casualty was recorded. 
 
He said, “There is no fresh killing or attack over the AFCON match. Definitely, when there is such match there is always panic. But we have not heard of any casualty from the match for now.” 
 
Some of the Nigerians, however, dedicated the victory to those killed in xenophobic attacks in South Africa. 
 
Okwuruha said, “Fair play to Bafana Bafana, but this win is for the Nigerians killed in xenophobic attacks in South Africa. We will always remember them.”

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal battle for a place in the Wimbledon final on Friday, 11 years after they mesmerised Centre Court in a Grand Slam championship match widely regarded as the greatest ever played. 
 
Nadal emerged triumphant that day, winning in five sets in a four-hour 48-minute epic of fluctuating fortunes that stretched out over seven hours because of constant, momentum-shifting rain interruptions. 
 
The Spaniard won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-7 (8/10), 9-7 as the clock ticked past 9 pm and with the famous stadium in near-darkness. 
 
Over a decade later, the sport’s two most successful players now have 38 Grand Slam titles between them and more than $100 million in prize money each.

Nadal, the 2008 and 2010 champion at Wimbledon, has the edge overall, leading his great rival and friend 24-15 and 10-3 at the Slams. 
 
However, it is eight-time champion Federer who just edges their Wimbledon head-to-head 2-1 after winning the 2006 and 2007 finals before Nadal famously broke the spell in 2008. 
 
Nadal, who demolished Federer in straight sets in the semi-finals at Roland Garros last month on his way to the 12th title in Paris, admits his game has developed since 2008. 
 
Mostly, that’s due to his age as well as the desperate need to protect his creaking knees which so often conspired against him on the low-bouncing lawns of the All England Club. 
 
“I am running less so I need to serve better. I probably cannot play 20 weeks a year anymore,’ said 33-year-old Nadal. 
 
“I am serving better. I am hitting the backhand better. Maybe volleying better, slicing better.” 
 
In terms of the bare statistics, there is little to choose between them. 
 
Nadal has served up 47 aces so far and been broken just four times; Federer has 42 aces, dropping serve on only three occasions. 
 
The Spanish third seed has yet to face a seeded player and has only been truly tested once, in his four-set second-round victory over Nick Kyrgios in what was comfortably the tournament’s most bad-tempered match. 
 
Federer, 37, is the oldest man in the semi-finals of a Slam since 39-year-old Jimmy Connors at the 1991 US Open. 
 
He is in his 13th semi-final at the tournament and 45th at the majors. 
 
In a career illuminated by landmarks, he became the first man to register 100 match wins at a single Slam when he came back from a set down to beat Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals. 
 
Federer is wary of the dangers presented by Nadal.

The top seed and world number one reached the semi-finals for the ninth time, racking up his 70th career win at the All England Club by sweeping past David Goffin in straight sets, reeling off 15 of the last 17 games. 
 
In his 36th Grand Slam semi-final, the 15-time major winner faces Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut who is in his maiden last-four at the majors at the 27th attempt. 
 
Djokovic leads the 31-year-old 7-3 in career meetings, including 3-0 at the majors. 
 
However, the unheralded Spaniard, who had to cancel plans for his stag party in Ibiza as a consequence of his run to the semi-finals, has defeated Djokovic twice in 2019, in Doha and Miami.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has warned ‘some misguided’ Igbo politicians to stop abusing their people because of temporary political positions they occupy. 
 
The National Organising Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Mr Emma Bediro, had in a statement recently said that the Presidency in 2023 might elude the Igbos because they did not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
But Ohanaeze, in a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Chuks Ibegbu, wondered why ‘a full-blooded Igbo man’ could make such a statement. 
 
“I don't expect an Igbos to be at the vanguard of such discouraging statements. The other time, it was Rotimi Amaechi, Orji Uzor Kalu and then even Rochas Okorocha. Some Igbo fully identified with Buhari and some others with Atiku just as some northerners, westerners and Niger Deltans did too.”

While he wondered what made Igbo position today exceptional, Ibegbu added, “when the Yoruba rejected Obasanjo, was he not made Nigeria’s President? Did the Niger Delta or the North all lick the buttocks of power holders in Nigeria before their own became Nigeria’s President? 
 
“Why must Igbo be different and worst of all, our own people are talking like those that took tramadol. Nobody in the North or West or even Niger Delta will openly make such statements against their people even if their people are political mumu,” Ibegbu lamented. 
 
The Ohanaeze spokesperson said, “Maybe some of them have other blood running in their veins. For me, nobody has monopoly of political wisdom, not in the North, not in the West and not anywhere. Sometimes, it’s just mere luck or political intimidation.” 
 
He, however, advised Igbo politicians who do not know what to say or how to engage their co-competitors in other parts of the country to keep quiet rather than embarrassing their race.

“Many young people are going through a lot to survive. Struggles, challenges, obstacles and they may want to give up. 
 
“I want you to look at me and my story. When I started acting in 1998, I remember how I struggled to get up there, I got a lot of “no’s”. I was the ‘queen’ of auditions and ‘wakapass’ roles. I would read so well and people will clap, I will be so excited and would think when I get the list, I would get a supporting role. But all I got were roles like church extracts. I remember crying on those occasions. 
 
“But my mother would tell me that I’ve got the passion and it is a God-given talent. She would give me money for my transport fare; sometimes I would trek to some places then take a bus to meet up. 
 
“I could count the number of shoes I had then, maybe two or three. But today, the story has changed. Things changed for me positively. 
 
“After ‘I need to know’, I didn’t get any more roles, I went down; I got back to attending auditions and lobbying, calling people and knocking on doors but none opened. I felt I had lost my chance. 
 
“I can remember going for a project and I met an actress who spoke to the producer on my behalf. I remember going to Oshogbo for the movie, I packed all my clothes, I was so happy because I was told I was going to play a supporting role. I got there, and we were supposed to film but something happened to the generator and we couldn’t film. I was waiting to be called to film in my hotel room but they did not. 
 
“On the fifth day, they called me and I was shocked. I was asked to play the role of a secretary in two scenes. This was after playing a major role in ‘I need to know’. It was devastating for me, I was crying but an actor advised me to take it. 
 
“I took the stipends I was given and went back to Lagos. There were different situations like that where I could have given up but my mother’s words kept encouraging me till I got my big break to produce my own movie. 
 
“So, do not give up, be expectant,” she said.

No fewer than 113 million people are experiencing high levels of food insecurity in the world, The Companion, an association of Muslim in Business and Professions National President, Alhaji Wale Sonaike, said on Wednesday. 
 
Quoting the Global Report on last year’s Food Crisis, Sonaike said Nigeria was named as one of the eight countries most affected in the world. 
 
“These eight countries accounted for two-thirds of the total number of people facing acute food insecurity, amounting to nearly 72 million people,” he quoted the report. 
 
He spoke at a briefing on the forthcoming 4th National Discourse scheduled for Sunday at University of Lagos Main Auditorium now named J.F. Ade-Ajayi auditorium. 
 
Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo will lead immediate past Governor of Osun State Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, a renowned expert in Agricultural-Engineering and former University of Uyo Vice Chancellor Prof Fola Lasisi, Prof Lateef Sanni of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Coordinator, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Otunba Femi Oke as well as an expert in Animal Production from the University of Ilorin, Dr Hameed Badmos, among others dignitaries to the event. 
 
Speaking on the theme: Food security: Unleashing Nigeria’s natural potential for self-sufficiency, Alhaji Sonaike said it is regrettable that Nigeria despite ranked as the highest producer of yam and cassava worldwide, is categorised as a food insecure nation with heavy reliance on importation of grains, livestock products and fish. “With a projected population of over 233 million by 2025, the concern for food security in the nearest future is palpable and calls for concern and immediate action by the populace and the government at all levels,” he said. 
 
He said the association focus on food security for this year’s discourse “because food undoubtedly is the most basic of all human survival needs and the starting chain of the economy as well as the base for daily life.” 
 
Food and agriculture by extension, he added, is also a fundamental pillar for economic growth and development as a nation can hardly achieve and sustain its economic growth without a strong agricultural base and the reasons are obvious. 
 
“Nigeria has correctly identified food and agricultural production among others as one of the areas to focus on the growth and diversification of the economy. This has started to yield results to the extent that Nigeria has become the largest economy in Africa, yet ironically, the country is still categorised as one of the few countries with high incidents of extreme poverty. This is paradoxical and calls for an expert investigation. In the light of these, we felt that experts should be called together to engage in a meaningful discourse to proffer solutions,” he said. 
 
Sonaike urged the federal government to take more drastic measures towards combating insecurity in the country, adding that incidents of community invasion, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, among others have become so rampant that lives and property are no longer safe. 
 
“Millions of farmers have either been displaced from their farmlands or dispossessed of their farmland. All of these have a negative impact on food production and constitute a major threat to food security no matter the beauty of agricultural policy put in place. 
 
“While we commend the government on the decision to recruit 10,000 police men , in a bit to combat this menace, it is unfortunate, however, that many years after this pronouncement; the recruitment is still in progress. What does it really take to recruit 10,000 policemen in the midst of millions of unemployed youth in the country? Those concerned should be called to order,” he said.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye on Wednesday reacted to series of protests against his alleged silence on issues affecting the body Christ and other national issues in Nigeria. 
 
In a statement released by head of RCCG Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi on Wednesday, the revered clergy reaffirmed his commitment to the umbrella Christian organizations that are mandated to speak on issues affecting the Church and the nation as a whole. 
 
He stated, as in the past, that the views of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) represented his position and that of the RCCG. 
 
Pastor Adeboye, himself a one-time President of PFN, noted that the aforementioned Christian bodies had spoken on the issues of kidnapping, killing of Christians, herdsmen attacks and general insecurity in Nigeria and that his position and that of the RCCG was not different from their expressed views.

Besides, as a Pastor and spiritual father to millions of people in Nigeria and across the world, he regularly leads the congregation to pray over the problems confronting the nation at all major programmes of the Church. 
 
Adeboye who said that, to be quiet does not mean that you are silent, disclosed that he had made his views on the issues known to all the relevant authorities. He declared that very soon, Nigerians shall see that God answers prayers. He enjoined all to remain calm and maintain the peace. 
 
The RCCG leader had always called the congregation to prayers against kidnapping, bloodshed and general insecurity at the monthly all-night Holy Ghost Service held at the Redemption Camp. For instance, at the July Holy Ghost Service, Pastor Adeboye led the congregation in supplication for God’s mercy on Nigeria after speaking on the negative consequences of bloodshed and inhumanity. That was four days before a group of students and youths under the leadership of some notable artistes like Baba Fryo, Charley Boy and Eedris Abdulkarim came to the Redemption Camp. 
 
According to the group, they had come to show their unhappiness with his supposed silence over killings of Christians, the establishment of cattle camps called RUGA and kidnapping in the country. 
 
Recall that leadership CAN, PFN had also come in defence of Adeboye insisting that the clergy and his church, RCCG were under its umbrellas and bonded by its decision/stance on national issues

Super Eagles’ Vice-Captain Ahmed Muse says patience was the key to the team’s victory against South Africa in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Wednesday. 
 
The Super Eagles on Wednesday defeated Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-finals of AFCON 2019 in Egypt. 
 
A goal each in each half from Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong saw Nigeria eliminate South Africa from the tournament and advance to the semi-finals. 
 
Musa told reporters in a post-match interview that the Super Eagles’ plan going into the game was to stay focused and patient against a resolute South African side.

“We knew that the game against South Africa would be tough and not an easy ride. 
 
“So, we spoke and reminded ourselves of the need to be patient as we worked towards achieving our goal.

Musa noted that both Nigeria and South Africa had similar styles of play as they possessed more attacking prowess on the flanks. 
 
“I think the same thing they (South Africa) have is what we too have on the wings. Both teams played the same style of football. 
 
“But the difference was that we were more patient and persistent in our approach than our opponents. 
 
“Chukwueze is one of the young and talented players in our squad. He had a great game today and scored a fantastic goal. 
 
“I think with time he is going to be one of the best players we have in the Super Eagles team. 
 
“Chidozie Awaziem, Wilfred Ndidi and Jamilu Colliins are also other young talents in the squad and players for the future. 
 
“As you know, we the old players in the squad are gradually winding down and will not be here in a couple of years from now. 
 
“So, we definitely need players like them to step up and take over from us,” he said. 
 
The Super Eagles now await the winners between Cote d’Ivoire and Algeria in one of Thursday’s quarter-final matches.
