West Ham United’s new signing, Jesse Lingard, has said that he came to the Hammers to work hard, help the team and bring his experience.
The 28-year-old, who will wear the No. 11 jersey at the London Stadium, explained that he wants to enjoy football and get back playing again.
Lingard joined West Ham from Manchester United on loan for the rest of the season on Friday.
The England international has reunite with his former manager, David Moyes, at West Ham after falling out of favour with Man United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

“I am excited,” Lingard told West Ham TV.
“It is another new chapter in my life. Nothing is guaranteed, but I have come here to work hard and help the team and bring my experience.
“That is the main aim. I just want to enjoy my football and get back playing again and get my feet back on the pitch.
“There were lots of clubs involved, but, for me personally, I felt this was the right move. I have obviously had a previous relationship with the manager as he was at Man U and I have played under him before, so he knows my qualities and what I can bring to the team.”

The Kaduna State government has instructed all secondary schools in the State to reopen for academic sessions on February 1, 2021.
Kaduna’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Phoebe Yayi, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday.
Yari explained that only Senior Secondary School 3 (SS 3) and Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1), JSS 3 were to open.
According to her, the government said that all public primary and nursery schools would remain closed, while primary 4, 5 and 6, in private schools should reopen.

She also disclosed that the resumption date for SS2, SS1 and JSS 2, would be communicated soon, subject to such schools’ compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.
The permanent secretary said that academic activities in schools would run on shift bases, with the first shift running from 8 am to 12 noon, while the second shift will be from 1pm to 5 pm.
Yari added that the decision was reached by the governement following extensive appraisal of the COVID-19 second wave pandemic in Kaduna and sequence of consultations with appropriate stakeholders.
“In view of this, the ministry of education is directing all Principals and Head Teachers to make necessary arrangements to receive Boarding and Day students of the above stated classes on Monday, Feb. 1.
“However, the State COVID-19 Task Force will continue to monitor all schools to ensure safe learning environments against the pandemic, in addition to strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the State Government.
“The class size should not exceed twenty students with 1.5m to 2.0m physical distancing,” she said.
Yayi also advised parents to provide their children with face masks and other sanitary items, to help in controlling the spread of coronavirus.

No food has been scientifically proven to specifically fight or prevent COVID-19 so far. However, incorporating these easy-to-follow habits into your daily routine will keep your body healthy and strong.
The science behind this virus is still being researched and discovered. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) does have some key points regarding healthy eating habits to fight COVID-19, which are all related to strengthening and maintaining a healthy immune system. A healthy immune system is the key to fighting off any virus, including one such as COVID-19.
Here are the healthy eating habits to fight COVID-19 recommended by the WHO.
1. Always include fruits and vegetables on your plate

The WHO states that a healthy immune system is sustained by providing your body with many different nutrients. An easy way to get a variety of vitamins and minerals into your diet is by including fruits and vegetables on your plate during meals. According to the University of Cincinnati Health (UC Health), “the more colorful your plate is with a variety of choices from the list below, the better.”
Some of the best fruits and vegetables for a strong immune system include those with high counts of vitamin C (such as citrus and greens), beta-carotene (orange root vegetables), antioxidants (berries), and vitamin E (avocado).
With such a variety of foods, it almost sounds like taking a multivitamin would be an easy supplement to fix the problem. However, UC Health states that your body absorbs the nutrients “more effectively when it comes from whole food sources.”
So do yourself a favor and pile the veggies and fruit on your plate at every meal.
2. Add whole grains and legumes
The WHO says that a healthy and balanced diet comes from a variety of foods, including carbs that come from whole grains and legumes. In a study published by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a diet rich in whole grains was proven to positively affect gut health as well as immune and inflammatory markers for adults. By swapping out the refined grains in your diet (white bread, sugary cereal, white pasta) to whole grains (whole grain bread, oatmeal, whole-grain pasta), your gut—and overall immune system—will see a drastic difference during COVID-19.
Legumes are also a great source of complex carbohydrates to incorporate into your diet due to their immune-boosting qualities. According to Everyday Health, because of their high-protein content, legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils, etc.), are important for building your muscle tissues, and strong muscles are linked to a strong immune system.
3. Snack on nuts
As earlier mentioned, vitamin E is an important antioxidant to have in your diet because of its immune-boosting and virus-fighting qualities, and nuts are a huge source of it. According to the Cleveland Clinic, high-fat plant foods will contain rich amounts of vitamin E, which also includes avocados and oils. Because nuts are a calorie-dense food, they are a great snack to consider with your afternoon cup of tea.
Nut butters are also a great source of vitamin E, and when paired with a vitamin-C rich fruit (like apples), it can be an incredible immune-boosting snack to fight COVID-19.
4. Add animal-sourced foods
According to a study published by The Journal of Nutrition, “animal source foods can provide a variety of micronutrients that are difficult to obtain in adequate quantities from plant source foods alone.” These micronutrients include vitamin A, vitamin B-12, riboflavin, calcium, iron, and zinc, which are particularly hard micronutrients to consume when following a vegetarian diet.
A diet rich in all kinds of vitamins and minerals is the best way to strengthen your immune system and ward off any type of disease. The best animal-sourced foods to incorporate in your diet are dairy products, animal by-products (such as eggs), and meat. Especially lean proteins and fish rich in omega-3’s.
5. Eat whole foods and keep your diet diverse
All-in-all, it’s best to get those micronutrients by eating whole foods—and a diverse variety! Filling your plate with all kinds of whole foods is the best way to ensure you are getting all of those vitamins and minerals that are needed for a healthy immune system, which is one of the best eating habits to fight COVID-19 by far. Even if the research doesn’t point out particular foods to fight COVID-19, the WHO stands by its statement that a diet rich in a variety of nutrients from fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and animal-sourced foods is the best way to fight this virus.

Two suspected armed robbers have been arrested with a locally made pistol, charms and some assorted weapons in Osogbo, Osun State.
The suspects, Samson Olamilekan, 25 and Kazeem Olaide, 22, were arrested at Mallam Tope area in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun by police operatives from SCID, Osogbo.
It was gathered that the duo were arrested as they were about to rob a victim at Mallam Tope area, Osogbo, with one locally made pistol and one live cartridge.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, Olawale Olokode, while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Osogbo, on Friday, disclosed that the suspects had earlier robbed one Jimoh Omotosho of the sum of N10, 000 at about 8:30 am of the same date and location.

While answering questions from journalists, the suspects told newsmen that, “We went to greet one Honourable who had served under PDP in his house at Mallam Tope area. The Honourable has a son who ventures into Yahoo; we went to beg for money from them. We don’t know the name of the honourable.”

The silhouette challenge flooded social media in the past few hours as users post nude videos with a red filter.
With the Silhouette challenge, ladies on social media are showing off their curves using red light filters, door frames, etc.
Mercy Chinwo in a post on her Instagram page warned women against following every trend online, even as she condemned the silhouette challenge.

She also demanded that women be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit in their thinking.
Her post read: “Dear women, you do not have to follow every trend. Carry thyself with dignity, know your worth. This is why you are different. ”
“Let your light so shine before men so that they may see your good works (Lifestyle, character) and glorify your father in heaven.. #ISTANDAGAINSTSILHOUTTECHALLENGE.”
The singer urged women to desist from imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around them but instead carry themselves with dignity.
“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think.
“This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. Romans 12:2,” the singer quoted.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, might not have Eric Bailly available for their trip to Arsenal on Saturday.
Bailly picked up a knock in training before the midweek defeat by Sheffield United.
Solskjaer is also monitoring Victor Lindelof, who is dealing with a stubborn back problem.
Lindelof was again rested on Wednesday after playing against Liverpool on Sunday.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has said it is illegal for the administration of the President Muhammadu Buhari not to license the South-West Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, to bear arms.
Falana, who spoke on a Punch Online interview programme, The Roundtable, on Friday, argued that if a private citizen can apply for a licence to bear arms for self-defence, the Amotekun Corps are also entitled to the same benefit.
He tasked the state governors in the region to approach the authorities in Abuja for the Amotekun operatives to bear arms to effectively tackle the myriad of security challenges ranging from kidnapping, banditry to rape, among other challenges, confronting the South-West region in recent times.
The overwhelming insecurity in the region had forced the six governors of the South-West to inaugurate the security outfit to tackle peculiar security threats in the region. The Amotekun Corps had also got the constitutional backing of the six state assemblies in the region.

Ondo, Ogun, Oyo and Ekiti states have since kick-started the operations of the security outfit endorsed by the governments of the six South-West states last year. Falana however said it was suicidal for the operatives of Amotekun to carry on without bearing arms because the criminal elements they were to confront use sophisticated weapons.
The senior advocate said, “You set up a security outfit like the Amotekun Corps without arms and ammunition. You are either risking the lives of the men and women in that organisation or you are giving people a false sense of security.
“I have advised our governors to apply for licences for those young men and women to bear arms. My argument is this: if an individual can apply for licence to bear arms to defend himself and his family members, it is illegal not to give licences to about 5,000 or 10,000 young men and women to protect a state like Lagos of about 20 million. And if they refuse to give the licences, we must go to court and accuse the authorities in Abuja of endangering the lives of people in Lagos. We must get to that level.
“We can’t have members of the neighbourhood watch to guide people without arms and ammunition, members of the Amotekun Corps without arms and ammunition, yet the people you are asking them to confront are armed with AK-47 and rounds of ammunition. For me, that is not security.
“There is even a section of the constitution, Section 220, that empowers a governor to ask for military training in the state because every Nigerian is entitled to military training but pending the time the National Assembly would enact a law to achieve that objective, a state government can ask the authorities in Abuja. We have facilities for military training. Can you allow our citizens to acquire military training? It is in the constitution.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday in Abuja arrested 10 suspects for computer-related scams.
They were nabbed at a learning centre for cyber fraud.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, announced the operation in a statement.
He disclosed that the suspects are between 20 and 30 years old.

They are Sixtus Jude, Moses Samuel, Isalan Johnny, Dapet Nimshak, Samuel Ogboche, Victor Samuel, Victor Asuquo, Ibrahim Yunusa, Yahaya Usman and Chijoke Ikwuoha.
Items found with them included mobile phones and computers.
The statement noted that the “promoter of the academy is on the run”.
EFCC’s immediate probe showed he recruits and trains young individuals who show interest in internet rackets.
The sponsor gets his percentage of their earnings based on an agreement.
“He also serves as a conduit for laundering the money gotten from internet fraud by some of the suspects”, Uwujaren added.
The suspects will be prosecuted after full investigation.

Yoruba Professionals Foundation (YPF) on Friday warned South-West Governors to prioritize jobs or watch insecurity get out of control.
Their position was contained in a statement by the President, Maxwell Adeleye and Director of Research and Strategy, Olawale Kadri.
YPF lamented the rate of unemployment, which it called “a major problem in Yoruba land”.
“A trillion naira budgetary allocation to Amotekun, Police and Army cannot quench insecurity where youth unemployment reigns supreme”, they noted.

The group said security challenges in the region posed a great threat to development and foreign direct investments.
“According to the United Nations data, over 69% of our population are below age 35 and unfortunately, the majority of crimes are perpetrated by people who fall between ages 20-35. This is the most active age in human life,” it said.
YPF also cited National Bureau of Statistics’ Q2 2020 data which puts the unemployment rate among young people (15-34years) at 34.9%, and the rate of underemployment for the same age group at 28.2%.
“This means we have over 63% of our active population not having any tangible employment and over 34% of them completely idle. This data is a telling indictment on the failure of leadership and lack of an adequate plan for citizenry and succession generation.
“To understand how bad this is, the unemployment rate in Venezuela is currently at 9.38%, in Papua New Guinea 4.50, South Africa 28.48%, Afghanistan 11.16, Honduras 5.23, Trinidad and Tobago 2.8%, Brazil 11.97%, Guyana 11.81%, El Salvador 4.2% and Syria 8.45%,” it added.
Comparing the statistics with Nigeria’s situation, YPF alerted that the country was sitting on gunpowder.
The statement called for entrepreneurial development policies and programmes for the youth to open new doors of opportunities, ventures and alliances.
YPF further urged the governments in South-West to provide a conducive environment and adequate support to help youths become self-reliant and employers of labour.

COVID-19 infections in Nigeria have continued to surge as the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 1114 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 128,674.
The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle, Friday night.
The health agency stated that the 1114 new infections were recorded in 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the last 24 hours.
It also said that seventeen (17) additional people died from coronavirus-related complications in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,577.

A Dutch appeals court on Friday said that the Nigerian subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell was responsible for oil pipeline leaks in the Niger Delta and ordered it to pay unspecified damages farmers.
The decision went a step further than a 2013 ruling by a lower court, saying that Shell’s Nigerian subsidiary was responsible for multiple cases of oil pollution.
This ruling will pave the way for more cases against the energy company.
A lower court in The Hague in 2013 said Shell’s Nigerian subsidiary SPDC was responsible for a case of oil pollution and ordered it to pay damages to a local farmer.

The court dismissed four other complaints against Shell’s parent company, but the verdict was seen by legal experts as a way for others to sue in the Netherlands.
The case was brought in 2008 by farmers and campaign group Friends of the Earth, seeking reparations for lost income from contaminated land and waterways in the Niger Delta region, the heart of the Nigerian oil industry.

Merriam Webster has added the term “second gentleman” to its dictionaries to describe the role of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff.
The definition for the new term is “the husband or male partner of a vice president or second in command of a country or jurisdiction’’.
Emhoff, an entertainment lawyer, is the nation’s first second gentleman and is also the first Jewish spouse in the White House.
“I might be the first but I won’t be the last,’’ Emhoff wrote on Twitter on Thursday above a link to the entry.

About 27 persons have been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Taraba State.
The incident happened along Wukari/Takum road.
Takum Council chairman, Shiban Tikari, confirming the abduction said the victims were on their way back to Takum after attending a wedding in Wukari.
He disclosed that the kidnappers wore military uniforms and disguised as soldiers.

“At the moment, I cannot tell you whether they are missing or kidnapped, but we are already on top of the situation,” he said.

Former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama has joined Hollywood in mourning the death of screen icon, Cicely Tyson.
It was reported that Tyson who starred in blockbuster movies during her acting career was confirmed dead on Thursday evening.
Reacting, Obama in a farewell message to the screen goddess via his Facebook account on Friday, expressed sadness over her death.
According to him, “Michelle and I were honored when Cicely came to the White House to accept the Medal of Freedom knowing she was one of the many giants upon whose shoulders we stood a trailblazer whose legacy couldn’t be measured by her Emmys and Tony and Oscar alone.”

He also prayed that God will give her family the fortitude to bear the loss.
“When Cicely Tyson was born, doctors predicted she wouldn’t make it three months because of a murmur in her heart. What they didn’t know, what they couldn’t know, was that Cicely had a heart unlike any other, the kind that would not only beat for 96 more years but leave a mark on the world that few could match.
“In her extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson was one of the rare award-winning actors whose work on the screen was surpassed only by what she was able to accomplish off of it.
“Cicely wasn’t exactly destined for Hollywood. When she was a child, her mother was a hardworking and religious woman who cleaned houses and didn’t even let her go to the movies.
“But once Cicely got her education, she made a conscious decision not just to say her lines but to speak her truth.

Liverpool ended a five-game winless run in the Premier League to move back into the top four with a 3-1 win at Tottenham on Thursday as Spurs also lost Harry Kane to an ankle injury.
The English champions had not even scored in their last four league games, but Jurgen Klopp said he recognised his side again as their front three sparked back into life after Roberto Firmino ended a 492-minute goalless drought in first-half stoppage time.
Kane had soldiered on after twice receiving treatment on ankle knocks in the first half and was eventually replaced at the break with Jose Mourinho predicting the England captain will be absent for at least a few weeks.
“Two injuries in both ankles, the second one worst than the first one,” said Mourinho. “A few weeks, I don’t know for sure.

“There are some players you can’t replace. When it happens it happens, but I believe we have to fight against it, we cannot do anything else.”
Liverpool’s worst run in the league since 2017 had seen them slip from the top of the table to fifth before kick-off with Klopp admitting his first priority is now to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
But the German was delighted with the response from the Reds as they clicked back into gear, particularly after going in front.
“What I saw today it’s not about shape or form it’s about who we are. That was us, second half especially it was us,” said Klopp.
“Tonight we knocked a wall down – that’s good. It is easier to lose (confidence) that’s how it is, but it is possible to get it back as well. It is not a light you can switch on and off. You have to show it at the right moment.”
A return to the Champions League is also Spurs’ target in Mourinho’s first full season in charge, but Tottenham’s chances may now depend on how long Kane is sidelined.
Kane and Son Heung-min have been the most deadly duo in the Premier League this season and thought they had combined for the opening goal inside the first five minutes.
Son finished coolly from Kane’s through ball, but the South Korean had just strayed offside in the build-up and the goal was ruled out by a VAR review.
There were signs of life in Liverpool’s attacking play despite a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday and they created many more clear-cut chances than in recent weeks as Hugo Lloris twice denied Mane with excellent saves.
With Kane clearly hobbling, Tottenham were clinging on for half-time when Liverpool finally struck.
Sadio Mane got in behind and squared for Firmino to bundle in at the back post for his first goal in eight games.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s drop off in form has been another major part of Liverpool’s regression from the side that romped to the title last season with 99 points.
However, the England right-back connected sweetly to drill in his side’s second after Lloris could only parry Mane’s initial effort into his path.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s brilliant strike from outside the box halved the deficit just two minutes later.
Liverpool, though, rarely looked troubled after Kane departed and could have won far more convincingly.
Mohamed Salah’s powerful strike was ruled out after a VAR review for a handball by Firmino earlier in the move.
But Mane restored the two-goal cushion when he pounced on an error from Joe Rodon to fire high past Lloris.
Victory takes Liverpool back above West Ham, who they face on Sunday, into fourth.
Tottenham’s early season form saw them being touted as contenders for a first top-flight title in 60 years ahead of their last clash with Liverpool last month.
Now a run of just two wins in eight games has plummeted Mourinho’s men down to sixth, four points adrift of the top four.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday received Hon. Yusuf Amosun, the lawmaker representing Ewekoro State Constituency and his other colleagues after their defection from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was gathered that Yusuf Amosun is a nephew to the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
After announcing their defection to the APC during plenary, the APM lawmakers were led to the governor by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo.
In his words, Dapo Abiodun advised the legislators to be loyal to the APC, which now has 22 of the entire 26 lawmakers that make up the house.

Abiodun, who described the lawmakers’ move as ‘home coming’, said they once left as a result of disagreement, but now returned home.
While welcoming the lawmakers back to APC, Abiodun stated, “You have not come back through coercion or by force. Remember you will be criticised for coming back.”
The governor reminded the defecting lawmakers that he did not discriminate against them in the past 18 months even while they were not with him.
“We will ensure you enjoy all the benefits that our members enjoy,” he promised.
Speaking, Oluomo, noted that the return of the lawmakers was a symbol of Abiodun’s achievements in getting everyone on board, informing him that “our great party is totally and fully in charge of the State House of Assembly all due to your ability to manage the people of the State.”
In their separate remarks, the seven lawmakers – Ganiyu Oyedeji (Ifo 2), Musefiu Lamidi (Ado-Odo/Ota 2), Latifat Ajayi (Yewa South), Adeniran Adeyinka (Sagamu 2) and Yusuf Amosun (Ewekoro) appreciated Abiodun for what they termed his inclusive policy, promising to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the State.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on Thursday, announced the suspension of its Envoy on Technology, Fabrizio Drummond, over allegations of harassment and inappropriate behaviours.
The suspension of the 57-year-old, who hails from Chile, came six days after his appointment as the UN’s first-ever technology envoy.
Speaking at a news conference in New York, Guterres said he placed Drummond on leave pending ongoing investigation by the organization into the matter.
“The allegations are being investigated, and that’s the right thing to do, and we decided that the precautionary measure to be taken for now should be that he goes on leave.

“So, I hope that the investigation will be quickly conducted.
“We now have a much more powerful system of investigation of all forms of harassment, and I hope that, based on conclusions, a due process will follow.
“This process however belongs to our investigation department to deal with,” he said.

The Federal Government has noted that its efforts in encouraging Nigerians to register for the National Identity Number, NIN, under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy is a strategic and critical effort to ensure that citizens have a credible, converged and consistent database for identity purposes.
Speaking at the Global Privacy Day Celebration, 2021, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, said the value of the registration exercise would become appreciated with the ease at which e-government services would be delivered, the reduction in crime, and general efficiency guaranteed by the database.
According to the Minister, “Identifying every Nigeria is a soft infrastructure needed to achieve our digital economy objective.
“Indeed, the needed pieces for the digital economy is falling in place and we are committed to laying a solid and lasting foundation for a digital Nigeria.”

Speaking further, Pantami said, I am more delighted to see that NITDA, in collaboration with public and private stakeholders has infused a lot of innovation to the organization of this year’s Privacy Week despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
“The Digital Economy is developing at a remarkable rate and it has been widely accepted as the single most important driver of Innovation, Competitiveness and Growth.
“The digital economy is fundamentally transforming the way societies, businesses including the business of governance operate and deliver services.”
The Minister said it was ironical that the COVID-19 pandemic has actually mainstreamed the digital economy, adding that rather than travelling by air, sea and land to host an event, people now have been impacted from around the world without gathering together physically in terms of hosting events.
“The Oxford Economics values the global digital market at $11.5 trillion dollars or approximately 16% of the Global Economy. This value is expected to grow significantly over the coming years,” he added.
“McKinsey and Company has predicted that the Digital Economy in Africa is expected to grow to over $300 billion by 2025. The World Economic Forum predicts that over 60% of global GDP will be digitized by 2022 and that over the next decade, digital platforms will be used to create close to 70% of new value and jobs.
“Most nations are prioritizing the need to develop their digital economies because they realize the multiplier effects that this can have on all other sectors of the economy.
“The currency of the digital economy is personal data. Digital platforms require information such as names, emails, phone numbers, geo-data among other personally identifiable information to be able to fulfill their service promise and to do effective marketing. Data must therefore be harnessed and properly regulated in order to achieve an orderly use of such valuable asset.
“When I signed the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation two years ago, I knew it was a fundamental instrument needed to digitally transform Nigeria. I am very proud of the Director General and the NITDA staff who have worked hard not only to implement the NDPR, but have done so seamlessly with local and international stakeholders. The array of partners of the Privacy Week shows that NITDA is representing government well, hence the show of support by the private sector.
“It is very gratifying that Nigeria, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR approved the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) and our recommendation to re-designate the Federal Ministry of Communications to become Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
“The 8 pillars of the NDEPS have been our core vision and implementation focus. These pillars are- Developmental Regulation; Digital Literacy and Skills; Soft Infrastructure; Service Infrastructure; Digital Services Development and Promotion; Soft Infrastructure; Digital Society and Emerging Technologies; and Indigenous Content Promotion and Adoption.
“In order to strengthen the NDPR, I want to assure NITDA of the Ministry’s full support in the drive to achieve compliance. I therefore encourage the Agency to rev up the engine of enforcement. Public and private sector data controllers must now take note that non-compliance with the NDPR is a breach with administrative, civil and criminal liabilities.
“The Ministry is also working with relevant organs of government to ensure Nigeria passes a well-thought, digital-economy propelling Data Protection Act. I also assure our stakeholders and the international community that we are putting in place requisite mechanisms for the institutional framework to implementation ensure successful implementation of the Bill as soon as it is passed into law.
“The lessons from the NDPR would form the foundation for the Act and we hope to continue playing a leading role in deepening data protection and digital economy in Africa.
“I implore the African Union Commission and our international partners to support Nigeria’s call for creating an African Single Digital Market (ASDM). This would enable the continent gain the advantage of economies of 1.3 billion people. The ASDM would also help us have data sovereignty in such a way as to protect data while also protecting the multinational technology investors.”

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has warned popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to be careful of politicians seeking to hijack his agitations against killer herdsmen in the South West.
The monarch in an interview with Arise TV advised Igboho not to take the laws into his hands but to allow constituted authorities to handle the herdsmen menace in the region.
The Ooni, however, commended Igboho for taking on the campaign against herdsmen, adding that He (Igboho) has done well and the world has heard him, but everything should be done in moderation.
He, however, warned him to back down so that government can take over the battle to avoid politicians hijacking the movement.

The monarch said: “Let us be very objective. He (Igboho) is being a mouthpiece for the downtrodden. He came up and everybody is listening now but my advice to him as a traditional ruler is that he needs to be very careful so that the politicians won’t hijack the whole motive from him.
“Igboho has done well and has been praised, but he shouldn’t take laws into his hands.
“We have the governor in the state who is the chief security officer of the state and Mr President has invited him (Makinde).
“Let the right authorities do what is right.
“We know that the bandits are everywhere in the country. Igboho should not take laws into his hands. We have laws in Nigeria, and we should follow it. Let the right people chosen do and follow what they are supposed to do,” Oba Ogunwusi advised.

An officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has been knockdown and killed by a motorist in the Mile 12 area of Ketu, Lagos.
This was disclosed by the General Manager LASTMA, Engr. Olajide Oduyoye, who gave the name of the officer as Samson Olawale Akinmade.
He said the officer died in the early hours of Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after he was knocked down by the motorist who drove a blue-black Opel Space Bus with registration number AAA 74 GG.
Oduyoye said Akinmade was knocked down at Demurin Street junction inwards Mile 12 while controlling traffic, leaving him with head and body injuries.

He said the officer died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where he was rushed after sustaining various degrees of injuries.
“This event is particularly sad because this was a young, intelligent and dedicated officer employed in the year 2019. He was very committed to his job but now he has been cut down in his prime by a careless and lawless driver, thereby depriving his family, the government agency, Lagos and Nigeria of a future leader in the making”, he said.
He said Akinmade who was directing yellow buses at the Demurin junction had approached the motorist and urged him to park away from the road to pick passengers.
“The driver assumed that he would be apprehended for obstructing traffic and sped off, knocking down the officer against the concrete culvert on the service lane and dragging him for about seven metres. He tried to escape through a street which turned out to be closed but was eventually arrested and handed over to the Police at Alapere along with his vehicle”, Oduyoye explained.
Oduyoye sympathised with the family of the deceased and called for the prosecution of the driver in accordance with the law.

The Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos State, on Wednesday, admitted more evidence against Azeez Fashola, popular musician also known as Naira Marley.
Naira Marley was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for offences bordering on conspiracy and credit card fraud.
He pleaded “not guilty” to the 11 counts filed against him.
The EFCC had on February 28, 2020, through its second witness, Augustine Anosike, sought to tender in evidence a compact disc containing information, analysis and extractions from the defendant’s iPhone.

The defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN had objected to its admissibility, which was equally opposed by the prosecution.
In his ruling, Justice Nicholas Oweibo dismissed the objection, noting that “the disk and investigation report include some of the contents extracted from the iPhone which has already been admitted in evidence”.
Thereafter, prosecuting counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, informed the Court that the prosecution was ready to continue with the case as the witness was in court to continue with his testimony.
The case was adjourned following the plea by one of the defence lawyers, Akinwale Kole-Taiwo.
Kole-Taiwo appealed with the Court for an adjournment because, “the lead counsel, Ojo, was in Edo for another matter”.
Following the appeal, Justice Oweibo adjourned till March 8 and 11, 2021 for “continuation of hearing”.

Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho, has claimed he is treated worse than other Premier League managers, when it comes to being punished for touchline behaviour.
Mourinho stated this while speaking to the media, ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.
It is a rematch of last month’s fixture that saw the Reds win 2-1.
After that match, Mourinho hit out at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, saying he would be sent off if he behaved the same way the Liverpool manager did on the touchline.

Mourinho continued to suggest there was a double standard at play ahead of Thursday’s game, insisting other managers are treated better than him.
“What I can say is when I didn’t behave well I paid the price,” Mourinho said.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has warned traditionalists in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of the State to stop fortifying cultists and criminals in the area.
The police chief gave the warning while speaking at the Ikorodu Town Hall Meeting on Security, held on Wednesday.
Hakeem said community leaders must also ensure that the safety of everyone in their environment is paramount by exposing all criminal elements.
“The Local Government Councils in Ikorodu must occupy the front line in combating crimes in the area.

“The traditional institution in the division must condemn the activities of the cultists in their area instead of supporting them and their criminal acts.
“The members of the public, especially landlords should also join in the fight against insecurity in Ikorodu by thoroughly screening those to be accommodated in their houses.
“The traditionalists and traditional worshippers in this area must stop promoting and protecting the criminals in Ikorodu axis and Lagos State in general. The idea of fortifying these boys and providing native charms for them should stop. Their powers must be used to assist us not to jeopardise our efforts in providing enough security for the citizens,” he said.

The kidnapped spokesperson of the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs Bridget Esene, has narrated her ordeal in the hands of her abductors after her release.
Recall that Mrs Esene was kidnapped by five armed men who trailed her to her church at Ikhueniro, a community in Benin City on Sunday, January 24.
Following her kidnap, the Police swung into action to secure her release from her abductors.
However, the Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, on Tuesday said Mrs Esene was released at about 4 pm.

Nwabuzor failed to state if any ransom was paid for her release.
Speaking to newsmen, Esene narrated how she was abducted at gunpoint by the kidnappers and sold to another gang.
According to her, she was taken to the forest where she was handed over to another set of abductors who took her deeper into the forest.
“I was forced into the car and driven out of the church premises by the five gunmen who later sold me to another set of kidnappers who are suspected herdsmen.
“The armed men later took me into the forest and some other hardened kidnappers were on ground to receive me.
“I was sold to another set of gunmen who then took me deeper into the forest,” she said.

“The two teams at the top of the league for the last three seasons have been amazing (Man City and Liverpool).
“In any other season you would have won the league with 20 points less than they have won it with. This is the start of something but we want to keep improving.”

Reality Tv star, Venita Akpofure has recounted how she lost a real estate deal after she turned down s3xual advances from a staffer of the company.
In a series of tweets shared via her Twitter page on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Akpofure narrated how a promising deal went sour after she turned down s3xual advances from one of the company’s heads.
“This industry is not beans. All is smoke and mirrors. I prayed to God to be able to provide security for my girls. Some time ago I was to go into business with a real estate company. Was so excited for my first home which was heavily discounted on the journey of independence,” she tweeted.
“The company was well established and boasted a roster of worthy influencers. I was welcomed and I felt at home with the brand. Unfortunately for me the “media head” who also has a similar industry background, decided I looked like his ex-wife and carried my matter on his head.”

“Even when I was gifted penthouse hotel experience for my birthday, he insisted on spending the night as “he couldn’t go home and had early island appt”. I actually left the whole suite for him and went home as I will not subject myself to any inappropriate circumstances.”
“I decided he had really crossed all professional boundaries and honestly he was not any way involved with my dealings because I had a direct plug. I reported him to the CEO. He was asked to vacate my suite immediately the next morning. And was infuriated.”
“Upon further investigation, myself and his colleagues learned he was given money to prep gifts for me, and needless to say he probably only spent 5k from what was allocated which was comfortably hundreds of thousands. The guy was just beyond crooked.”
“Anyways fast forward. Although I was apologised to and we moved on, I never saw my contract again despite asking severally, (which was not concluded and as a result unsigned as the lawyer now refused to bring it out). Long n short, Conclusively my discounted house disappeared.”

Chelsea’s board has told new manager, Thomas Tuchel, that he has to qualify the team for the Champions League in his first six months, Daily Star reports.
Tuchel on Tuesday, signed a two-and-a-half year contract to replace Blues legend, Frank Lampard.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain boss will not be given much time to settle at the Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel will jump straight in at the deep end and take charge when Chelsea host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

The German takes over with the Blues sitting 10th on the table, with just two wins in their last eight league games.
Despite this, the board is expecting big things from him in the short-term.
Tuchel has to ensure Chelsea finish in the top four or go on to win the Champions League, so they return to the competition next season.
The Blues face Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages next month.

Akwa Ibom State Government said it has commenced the documentation of all the tourist centres as well as hotels in the State to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the hospitality firms.
The Chairman of Akwa Ibom Hotels Management and Tourism Board, Mr Akpabio who disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with journalists said over 1000 tourist centres across the State has so far been registered.
He observed that hotels and other hospitality outfits were critical centres to spread coronavirus and accurate registration would ensure strict monitoring and compliance to COVID-19 protocols by key players in the tourism sector.
He said task force for the implementation of COVID-19 guidelines and protocols which was set up last year would reinforce implementation of COVID-19 protocols in all hotels, eateries, clubs and drinking parlours across the state.

His words,” The Tourism sector is currently documenting all hotels and tourism establishments in the state. We have got over 1000 documented, more would be registered. we are documenting our sector players both digitally and analogue. This means we can always assess them.
“The aim of this documentation is to assist the Tourism Board to monitor implementation of COVID-19 guidelines and protocols in all tourists centres across the state as to prevent the spread of the pandemic.”
He added that another aim of the documentation was to impose levies on the tourist centres/hotels in order to help the board generate funds.
He said, ” We have to generate funds without waiting for government. There are many areas of financial interventions in our assignment.”

American philanthropist and Microsoft Co-founder, Bill Gates, says Nigeria does not need to spend too much on acquiring COVID-19 vaccines but should rather focus more on revitalising the weak and underfunded health sector especially the primary health care centres.
Gates said this while responding to a question posed by The Punch during an interview with select African journalists on Tuesday.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, had in December informed the Senate that Nigeria would require over N400bn to vaccinate 70 per cent of Nigeria’s population at $8 per vaccine.
When asked if it was appropriate for Nigeria to spend such a huge sum of money on vaccine acquisition in the midst of other issues plaguing the health sector, Gates said, “There is no doubt that the impact of putting money into the health system particularly the primary healthcare system will be very high in terms of saving children’s lives and you are absolutely right.

“Nigeria should not divert the very limited money that it has for health into trying to pay a high price for COVID vaccines.”
Gates said Nigeria could also rely largely on groups like GAVI the Vaccine Alliance for COVID-19 vaccines.
He argued that investing in the primary health system would improve coverage and build Nigeria’s response in tackling other diseases.
The philanthropist added, “The key thing would be, Nigeria is still GAVI eligible and so for a lot of those vaccines, they will come through this GAVI facility that we raise money for and health in Nigeria is generally underfunded.
“If you look at the primary health centres in the North, in particular if you look at the vaccine coverage rates, there are literally millions of lives that can be saved if the primary health system operates at a level that some other countries at the same wealth of Nigeria if the system was this good.
“So, I am an advocate for the government to have more resources and prioritise health. Obviously, I am not a voter in Nigeria so Nigeria can decide that independently. My advice is (that) the primary health care system is what is super important.”
When asked if his foundation would be helping Nigeria in developing COVID-19 vaccines, Gates said such a move would involve a five-year plan.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has insisted the club will not do business this January, because his squad is already “full of quality”.
After guiding United to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, Solskjaer brought in Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri.
An agreement was also reached with Atalanta for the transfer of Amad Diallo, who finally completed his £37 million move to Old Trafford at the start of this month.
United have risen to second in the Premier League after 19 fixtures and look set to fight for their first title in eight years, but it has still been suggested by some fans and experts that the team is still one or two players short of being the finished article.

When asked about the possibility of signing any new players this month, the Norwegian head coach told a press conference ahead of tonight’s game against Sheffield: “I wouldn’t think so, no. I’d be surprised if we do any incomings.

“Bar something surprising happening, I wouldn’t think something will happen (in terms of) incomings, no.”

Dino Melaye, former senator representing Kogi West, has urged Nigerians not to rejoice over the appointment of new service chiefs.
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, appointed new service chiefs after several calls for sack of previous ones owing to increasing insecurity in the country.
The new service chiefs are: Major-General Leo Irabor as Chief of Defence Staff; Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao ss Chief of Air Staff; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff; and General Ibrahim Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff.
Reacting, Melaye urged Nigerians to be very observant and not rejoice over the appointments yet.

On his Twitter page, the former Senator wrote: “Do not shout Hallelujah or Alhamdulilihi for the locomotive announcement of new service chiefs. Not Uhuru yet. Shine your eyes Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, said that the resignation of the service chiefs was not as a result of a number of security failures under their tenure.
According to him, President Buhari just felt it was the best time to remove the security heads and appoint new ones.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has reported 1,303 new coronavirus infections in the country.
The health agency disclosed this via its verified Twitter account on Tuesday night.
The centre also confirmed the nation recorded 15 deaths, bringing the current fatality toll to 1,522.
It added that the new infections were recorded from 25 States and the Federal Capital Territory, in the last 24 hours.
It disclosed that Lagos recorded the highest toll with 478 cases, followed by FCT, 211.

The Presidency has said that the appointments of security chiefs are not subject to federal character.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Femi Adesina made this known while reacting to reports that the Buhari administration has repeatedly made such appointments without the inclusion of any man or woman of Igbo extraction.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Adesina said while certain appointments are subject to Federal Character, security is not one of them.
According to him, the President can appoint whoever he feels is fit and will deliver the job accurately.

“There are certain appointments that are subject to federal character, for instance, the constitution says that there must be a minister from each state of the country.
“However, there are certain appointments that are not subject to federal character and one of them is in the security.
“In security, It is about competence; it is about the ability to deliver.
“So, the president will appoint whoever he feels is fit and proper and will deliver to the best for the country and for Nigerians,” he said

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has said there is no iota of the truth in the rumour that the Anambra State Governor, Mr Willie Obiano, is planning to join the All Progressives Congress.
This came amidst speculations that Obiano may dump the APGA for the APC to contest the Anambra North Senatorial Election in 2023.
Obiano, who was elected on the platform of APGA in 2014, would complete his constitutional two tenures in Office on March 17, 2022.
The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, in a statement on Tuesday, said there was no iota of truth in the rumour that the governor would dump the APGA for the APC.

He said, “Every election season, the disgruntled opposition elements are known for being more desperate and resorting to all manners of blackmail in a condemnable bid to seize power from the ruling party( APGA).
“Governor Obiano is not planning to defect to APC rather he is committed to ensuring that a good successor who will continue the good works he is doing in Anambra from where he stopped emerges from APGA.
“This is the goal he fixed his eyes on actualising and nothing will stop him from doing that.
“Obiano remains a committed leader of APGA that is determined to take the party to greater heights.
“The general public and governor Obiano’s fans are advised to disregard the disgruntled opposition elements’ fabricated tissue of lies in this election season because they are politically motivated.”
