Ex-National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), has reacted to the accusations from the the presidency on siphoning billions of dollars earmarked for arms purchases and order of his arrest President Muhammdu Buhari. 
 
Dasuki in a statement said that he acted in the best interest of Nigeria and that it is laughable for the panel to assume that 4 Alpha jets and 12 helicopters were not delivered. 
 
He said that the the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Adesola Amosu in a memo acknowledged the receipt of the 4x Alpha jets attack aircraft and the helicopters also the Chief of Air Staff also confirmed the receipt of F-7 N1 aircraft combination of 250kg bombs and accessories at $2,894,000 with the cost of freight at $1,200,000. The same Air Force confirmed getting 2xTri Shield 36DG Tactical radars. 
 
More so he said that to show that he has nothing to hide, he submitted a comprehensive list of all requests for procurements by the services, the items bought and those equipment being awaited to President Muhammadu Buhari long before he left office. 
 
 
The Statement read thus 
 
In a theatrical manner, the Presidency fed the public with many allegations against my person and yet to be named former public officers. 
 
To draw sympathy, the presidency quoted some absurd findings including extra-budgetary interventions; award of fictitious contracts; 53 failed contracts; payment for jobs without contractual agreements; non-execution of contracts for the purchase of 4 Alpha jets, bombs and ammunition. 
 
For undiscerning Nigerians, they may tend to assume that the allegations were true and pronounce the former National Security Adviser guilty as charged. 
 
The statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who should know better as a former President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and a witness to history, was nothing sort of propaganda to cast aspersions on Dasuki. 
 
To set the records straight, Nigerians should appreciate that the AVM Jon Ode-led panel did not invite the ex-NSA under any guise before arriving at its ambiguous findings. At least, fairness demands that the panel ought to hear from Dasuki instead of its recourse to hasty conclusions. If the panel had been more patient and painstaking, it would have been availed of all relevant documents on some of the jaundiced findings. 
 
As if acting a script, the Presidency alleged that the Panel accused Dasuki of awarding fictitious contracts between March 2012 and March 2015. Contrary to this claim, Dasuki was not the NSA in March 2012 and he could not have awarded any contract in whatever name. The ex-NSA was appointed by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on June 22, 2012. 
 
All contracts and accruing payments were with the approval of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces. Once the ex-President approved, the former NSA paid. So, there was due process for every purchase in line with regulations guiding arms procurement for the Armed Forces. 
And Nigerians should note that all the services generated the types of equipment needed, sourced for suppliers most times and after consideration by the Office of the NSA, the President will approve application for payment. For sensitive sectors (military/security), there was no room for awarding fictitious contracts. The conclusions of the panel were presumptive, baseless and lacked diligence. 
 
There were no fictitious contracts; contract sums were not diverted and the relevant services in writing acknowledged delivery of equipment. For all procurements, the Nigerian Army, the Air Force and the Nigerian Navy have their contractors. 
 
While awaiting judicial process on these allegations, it is proper to make some references to show that the presidency was just desperate to hang some former public and military officers who served this nation at the risk of their lives. 
 
It is laughable for the panel to assume that 4 Alpha jets and 12 helicopters were undelivered. In a memo to the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA), referenced NAF/905/D/CAS of November 28, 2014, the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Adesola Amosu acknowledged the receipt of the 4x Alpha jets attack aircraft and the helicopters. 
On 10/21/14, the Chief of Air Staff also confirmed the receipt of F-7 N1 aircraft combination of 250kg bombs and accessories at $2,894,000 with the cost of freight at $1,200,000. The same Air Force confirmed getting 2xTri Shield 36DG Tactical radars 
 
In another letter of December 1, 2014 signed by L.S. Alao(on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff), the Air Force said it received five containerized fuel storage and dispensing units with equipment. 
The Nigerian Army wrote the ONSA to acknowledge the delivery of 14 armoured tanks. In a December 13, 2014 memo, the Brigade of Guards thanked ONSA for releasing N30m for RCA, Operation allowance for Troops on Op Urban Sweep II for third and fourth quarters of 2014. This is apart from the installation of CCT Cameras at the Brigade Headquarters, 2 backscatter bomb detection vans and other equipment. 
 
On November 26, 2014, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh sought for approval of the award of one pair of uniform(in the interim) for the Armed Forces at N165, 375 to El-Jahab Mubarak Nigeria and N330,750,000 for two pairs. 
 
These are some of the acknowledgment letters submitted to me by the end-users(the services). It is not for me to go and find out whether the equipment were delivered or not. I am not the one keeping the inventories. 
 
To show that I have nothing to hide, I submitted a comprehensive list of all requests for procurements by the services, the items bought and those equipment being awaited to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari long before I left office. If there were issues, I should have been questioned. I was just the clearing house, I did not award contracts to my company or proxies. There was no contract awarded or equipment bought without approval from the then President and Commander-In-Chief. I am not a thief or treasury looter as being portrayed. 
 
In order not to endanger the nation’s security, there are many salient issues and contracts which I cannot put in public domain. I am ready for trial on all these allegations in order to prove to Nigerians that I did nothing untoward in office. We will certainly meet in court. 
 
I have a lot to tell Nigerians but in the interim, they should not believe some of the allegations as the gospel truths. The good thing is that some of the key actors in the present administration were parts of the past process being viciously challenged. 
 
As for my tenure as the nation’s NSA, I acted in the interest of the nation and with utmost fear of God. I did not use the office for any self-serving agenda. I occupied the Office of the National Security Adviser at a difficult moment in Nigerian history when terrorism was at its peak and I am leaving posterity to judge me accordingly.

Founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has announced Facebook will soon launch a button which will allow users to express empathy. 
 
Addressing a Q&A session held at the US company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, the 31-year-old acknowledged that “like” is not always appropriate for some posts – about a tragic news event, for example – when people might want to express empathy. 
 
Speaking at the event, that was streamed live online, Zuckerberg said that people have been asking for a “dislike” button on the social media site for years. 
 
However, he said the company had veered away from making a “dislike” button, which could be used to vote down other people’s posts. 
 
“Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it.” 
 
He said the new button is ready to be tested soon and could be rolled out broadly depending on how it does. 
 
The company’s now-iconic “like” button was introduced in 2009.

A Nigerian pastor based in Ghana who simply identified himself as Pastor Paul has declared that Dele Momodu, the founder of Ovation Magazine, is the next Ooni of Ife. 
 
The pastor warned that if Momodu was not installed as Ooni of Ife there would be bloodshed in the country, he also added that, his proclamation was a prophecy he got from God. 
 
In a telephone conversation with Bayo Onanuga, the CEO of PM News/TheNews he said: “If the Ife people refuse to crown Momodu, there will be bloodshed,” the Pastor said. 
 
But Onanuga disagreed with him, saying: “Although Dele Momodu was born in Ife, his connection is as near as Gbongan and as far as somewhere in Edo State.” 
 
Momodu a graduate of University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) 1982, holds a degree in Yoruba and a master’s degree in English Literature in 1988. 
 
In 1986, Momodu served the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II, managing the Motel Royal Limited owned by the monarch.

11. The Overly-Attached 
Emotionally dependent women are a burden to men. They do not understand that men need to breathe, have some personal time, and demonstrate total dependence on their love. These kinds of women are similar to gum on a shoe. 
“You haven’t even left yet and I already miss you!” “Without you, I would die!” 
 
12. The Sloppy 
The greatest complainers are married men, since single women don’t usually make this mistake during dating times. Men like having a good-looking woman by their side! 
“People need to stop worrying about the small details.” 
 
13. The Digger 
Think more about the things that she can obtain by relating with a man, than the type of person he is. 
“What year was your car made again?” 
 
14. The Vulgar 
Women like to fish for attention at whatever cost, including being revealing in their attire.

1. The Assh*le 
 
This one is pretty basic. The assh*le is the guy who has zero consideration for your time, texts you after midnight on the reg and is clearly not intent on establishing any sort of relationship. 
He doesn’t care about you, your feelings or what you have to offer. He only cares about getting it in and getting on to the next one. 
 
2. The Carpet 
 After you date three to four assh*les in a row, you start to think, “Maybe it’s just that I’m making the wrong choices in men.” As a result, you overcompensate and get yourself a nice guy. 
But not just any nice guy, a carpet, a guy who will dote on your every whim and do anything you say. The problem is, that’s not attractive. 
After a few months, you’ll start yearning for your old, assh*le vices. Having a backbone, even if he’s controlling or rude about it, is better than having no backbone at all. 
 
3. The Pretty Dumb One 
 
When he writes the same way most people text, Houston, we have a problem. Every girl has dated a guy who is so pretty, but so dumb. He’s pretty; he’s dumb; he’s pretty dumb. 
And that’s about all he can follow, so have fun with this one and move on. 
 
4. The Rebel 
 
Girls are notorious for loving bad boys. Whether he has a motorcycle, a criminal history or just knows where to get the best hookup for the best stuff, there’s something about danger that lures women in. 
The problem is, this isn’t sustainable long-term. Just look at what happened to Piper and Larry in “Orange is the New Black.” Relationships rarely survive visiting hours. 
 5. Peter Pan 
 
This guy will never grow up. He still lives at his momma’s house, frequents the club every weekend and is likely doing the same work he did throughout high school and college, completely wasting his degree. 
Moreover, he’ll probably continue these patterns into his later years, until one day, he wakes up and realizes he’s 50 and done nothing worthwhile with his life. 
 
6. Mr. All Business 
 
There’s nothing worse than being second on someone’s priority list. By all means, date someone with a job, but make sure he or she realizes the value of a work/life balance. 
If he spends all dinner responding to “urgent” work messages, walk away. Seriously, no one’s messages are that important unless his name is Barack Obama. 
 
7. The Charmer 
I tend to refer to this character as the Rico Suave of the bunch. He knows exactly what to say at exactly the right time and has all the right moves. 
The problem is, he’s been practicing those lines and moves on five other girls at the same time he’s been talking to you. But you can’t even hate, the man has got that much game. Play on, playa. 
 8. The Mama’s Boy 
Not to be confused with the Peter Pan, the mama’s boy has likely moved out of his mother’s house, and yet continues to have an unhealthy attachment to her. She will always be the number one girl in his life, and anyone who threatens that position will become a target. 
We all love our parents, but there’s a line that needs to be drawn. At the end of the day, your Mr. Right should not be afraid to take your side against anyone’s, even his mother. 
 9. The Trust Fund Baby 
While we’re on the subject of coddling and unhealthy family relationships, let’s discuss trust fund babies. Initially, dating a guy who literally has a collection of silver baby spoons may seem like a great idea. After all, who wouldn’t want to date Richie Rich? 
But in reality, this usually translates to a man who feels entitled and is used to having everyone work hard for him, as opposed to working hard himself. 
 
10. Mr. VIP 
This guy lives to party. He knows every bouncer at every club, and likely has the hookup at all the best places. He may even be a promoter himself. 
 
For the rest of us non-ragers, however, there’s a limit on the amount of partying we can do. And it’s not fun having a significant other whom you’re worried is in the club constantly surrounded by half-unclad women. 
 
Trust, time conflicts and a waning interest in his ability to get you in VIP will be the death of this match. Sadly, this list is by no means exhaustive. 
 
There are countless other Mr. Wrongs women date and even marry when they give up on finding Mr. Right. My advice? Hang in there. He’s still worth the wait, even if he’s not Mr. Right On Time.

The prosperity gospel maintains the redemption in Christ Jesus is also redemption from financial poverty. It says every Christian is called to be rich in dollars and cents. A favourite scripture in this regard comes from Paul, who says: “You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9). 
 
Enticing words 
 
This so-called gospel appeals to the rich because it tells them they will become richer. It appeals to the poor because it promises them they will become rich. It appeals to pastors because it has proved to be an effective way to grease money out of Christians by making them believe if they give to their churches, God would give them a hundredfold return. 
 
Jesus says those who leave their house or land or brothers or sisters or father or mother for the sake of the gospel will receive a hundredfold return. (Matthew 10:29-30). He is clearly referring here to spiritual returns, for no man can have 100 physical mothers and fathers. However, his message has been distorted on the altar of the prosperity gospel. 
 
Thus, Gloria Copeland says: “You give $1 for the gospel’s sake and $100 belongs to you. Give $10 and receive $1,000. Give $1,000 and receive $100,000. Give one house and receive one hundred houses or one house worth one hundred times as much. Give one airplane and receive one hundred times the value of the airplane. Give one car and the return would furnish you a lifetime of cars.” 
 
Fleecing the flock 
 
The prosperity gospel is convenient for justifying the wealth of pastors who have become rich at the expense of their congregation. Thus, Marcus Bishop says unapologetically: “Financial prosperity is just as much a part of the Gospel as anything else… I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m not ashamed of prosperity. I’m not ashamed that Jesus bought and paid for me to be wealthy. Let me just tell you from the heart of God, preachers are supposed to be rich.” 
 
Kenneth Copeland echoes him. He maintains: “You can draw on heaven like a magnet. We don’t have to wait until we get to heaven to get God’s blessings. Now’s when we need them.” 
 
The prosperity gospel is also lucrative for selling books. The Christian book market is full of “get-rich-quick tipsters” and “one-minute-solution merchants.” For example, Joel Osteen’s “Your Best Life Now” sold millions of copies. It was number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Osteen tells Christians they can get their best life now; a far more marketable proposition than one saying: “Take up your cross and follow Jesus”. 
 
Tit for tat 
 
The prosperity gospel says in order to receive from God; we first have to first give money to the church. But Peter said the exact opposite to Simon the sorcerer, who offered him money in order to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit: “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!” (Acts 8:20). 
 
 
God is no respecter of persons. He not only prospers the righteous, he also prospers sinners. Bad fortune is not an index of God’s judgement. Neither is prosperity an index of his favour. (Job 21:7-13). Many sinners, atheists and wicked people easily escape calamities, while many are the afflictions of the righteous. (Psalm 34:19). 
 
Solomon says: “Exactly the same thing will finally happen to all of us, whether we live right and respect God or sin and don’t respect God. Yes, the same thing will happen if we offer sacrifices to God or if we don’t, if we keep our promises or break them.” (Ecclesiastes 9:1-3). 
 
God allows the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Accordingly, he often gives great wealth to the wicked. This tendency baffled Jeremiah who queried God: “Why does the way of the wicked prosper?” (Jeremiah 12:1). 
 
Prosperity of fools 
 
For the unregenerate, riches can be a curse. If we inherit riches or if our plans succeed beyond our wildest expectations, it is time to pray for the grace to handle it, that it may not alienate us from God: “For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.” (Proverbs 1:32). 
 
Solomon warns: “There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; and one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.” (Proverbs 13:7). This means there is a seeming wealth behind which lies deep spiritual poverty and wretchedness. Yet, there is a poverty that makes a man ripe for the kingdom of God. 
 
Take another look at the special programmes and outreaches organised in the churches and you will discover the emphasis is not on righteousness or the kingdom of God. Instead, banners, posters, handbills and radio jingles proclaim “Unceasing Showers of Blessing,” “Twenty-four Hour Miracles;” or “Stupendous Breakthroughs.” Hosea dismisses this tendency: “They assemble together for grain and new wine.” (Hosea 7:14) 
 
Prosperity preachers mislead Christians. They hold up the candy of their gospel, saying “count the blessings.” But Jesus does the very opposite. He presents the gospel and says “count the cost.” (Luke 14:28-33). Jesus does not promise us a rose garden in this life. Instead he tells his disciples: “In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). 
 Encouraging the wicked 
 
God says to Isaiah: “Cry aloud, spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet; tell my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” (Isaiah 58:1). Prosperity preachers are averse to doing this for fear of alienating their congregation. Therefore, they fool the gullible, saying: “Get ready, get ready, God is about to give you a blessing that there will not be room enough to contain.” 
 
Prosperity preachers strengthen the hand of evil-doers by promising them God’s blessings instead of reproving their sins (Jeremiah 23:14). They give the wrong impression that God is satisfied with Christians, ensuring that we do not repent of sin. Indeed, as a rule, God does not send messages of prosperity. He is not in the habit of sending messages of peace and prosperity to a sinful world. On the contrary, he sends warnings of wars, famines and plagues. (Jeremiah 28:8-9). 
 
“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; they speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the LORD. They continually say to those who despise me, “The LORD has said, ‘You shall have peace;’ and to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say, ‘No evil shall come upon you.’” (Jeremiah 23:16-17). 
 
God is contemptuous of prosperity preachers. He says: “All of them, great and small, prophet and priest, have one purpose in mind – to get what isn’t theirs. They give useless medicine for my people’s grievous wounds, for they assure them all is well when that isn’t so at all!” (Jeremiah 8:10-11).

The Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka has counselled the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to tell President Muhammadu Buhari to make his assets public properly as he promised Nigerians, rather than asking Governor Ayodele Fayose to declare his assets publicly. 
 
Olayinka stated that “Fayose was comfortable before he became governor. He is not a deceitful person who goes about parading mud houses and cattle herds as assets for cheap political publicity.” 
 
Reacting, to a statement issued by the APC, asking the governor to publicly declare his assets, he said, “Governor Fayose has declared his assets as provided by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and whoever that is not satisfied can approach the Court or the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for copy of his assets declaration form.” 
 
He said the APC was only raising issues on the governor’s already declared assets because of his critical stance on President Buhari, adding that; “unlike President Buhari, Governor Fayose will never shy away from what he owns, he will never deny his assets because he acquired them legitimately. The governor does not need the easy and cheap excitement of declaring mud houses or herds of cows as assets for the applause of the gullible.” 
 
Olayinka said further; “We know where everybody, including President Buhari wealth are hidden and the APC should not provoke the governor to such an extent that he will begin to reveal their hidden assets. 
 
“Nigerians demanded that President Buhari must declare his assets publicly because that was what the President promised when he was seeking the people’s votes. 
 
 
“It was part of President Buhari’s electoral promises that his assets will be declared publicly and up till today, he has not done that. We have only been told that the President, whom they said was poor to the extent that he had to take bank loan to buy his party’s nomination, is now the owner of a mini estate in Asokoro, Abuja that is worth over N3 billion. 
 
“The APC should rather explain to Nigerians how a man they said had no houses anywhere apart from Daura and Kaduna suddenly become owner of houses and landed properties in Kano, Abuja and Port-Harcourt? 
 
“They should also tell Nigerians what happened when President Buhari headed Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) and why they lied to Nigerians that the president was poor, thereby obtaining Nigerians votes by trick.” 
 
Speaking further, Olayinka said Governor Fayose was more than clean, having been cleared by all courts in the land, and most importantly secured judgment against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for trespass and intrusion of his properties. 
 
 
“Up till today, the N10 million damages awarded against EFCC since 2009 has not been paid and he is in the process of filing a writ of fifa against the agency. 
 
 
“Therefore, the APC should tell President Buhari to come out clean to Nigerians because it is clear that he is not the poor man he was presented to be.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called for the award of capital punishments on corrupt officials who loot public fund, stressing that such practice would aid in taming corruption in the country. They said that such punishments are already in practice in countries like India and China. 
 
They gave the advice at a joint news conference in Abuja on Tuesday. Speaking to newsmen, the NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba and the TUC President, Bobboi Kaigama said that the campaign against corruption spearheaded by the president must be intensified and sustained. 
 
The duo also said that an organised labour would hold a mass rally on Thursday in Abuja as a way of garnering supports for the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
“If such capital punishment can happen in China, India and South Africa, it can also happen in Nigeria; whatever measure that will address the issue of this mind-boggling corruption in the country, NLC will support it,’’ Wabba said. 
 
Wabba said that corruption had badly damaged the core of the country’s national existence, adding that the political leadership of the country must act decisively in order to rid the country of corruption. “As organised labour, we firmly believe that the political leadership of our country must act decisively to get us out of the brink of disaster that greed and primitive accumulation through open looting of our commonwealth in the last six and more years, has brought us to.” 
 
According to him, the NLC supports the establishment of anti-corruption courts to try corruption cases in the country, adding that most Nigerians have been deprived the standard quality of life due to massive corruption in the polity, adding that organised labour would no longer watch the culture of impunity. 
 
The TUC president, Kaigama decried the situation where governors could not pay workers’ salary for months because of the high level of looting at the state and local government levels across the country. “We have not experienced non-payment of salary for eight months in the last 20years; this is sad and this is due to the massive corruption in the country,’’ he said. 
 
He, therefore, called for the enactment of laws that would give new impetus to the fight against corruption, adding that all public officers must henceforth, declare their assets.

Out of Nigeria’s 180 million people, the number of illiterate Nigerians is estimated at 54 million, revealed the Federal Government yesterday. 
 
The Acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Hindatu Abdullahi, presented the figures at the flag-off of the 2015 International Literacy Day celebration, and called for concerted efforts to improve the negative trend. 
 
Recently, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) announced that over 757 million adults worldwide still lacked basic literacy skills, with about two-third of them being women, mostly from Nigeria and other third-world countries. 
 
Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, in her message to mark the 2015 International Literacy Day, lamented that the number of out-of-school children and adolescents was on the rise, standing at 124 million worldwide. 
 
Nigeria, in 2000, joined other countries to commit to the six Education For All (EFA) goals and later the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which had 2015 as deadline for achieving their set targets. 
 
“Regrettably, a global review of achievements and challenges of EFA since inception shows that some of the targets remain unattained, especially in many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria,” said Abdullahi. 
 
According to her, the 2013/2014 Global Monitoring Report (GMR) showed that countries like Brazil, China, Indonesia have attained 90 per cent literacy rate, while Egypt and India had about 70†to 89 per cent. Nigeria, Bangladesh and Pakistan had literacy rate of less than 70 per cent. 
 
She noted that past governments generally gave more attention and resources to formal education programmes than the non-formal sub-sector, which accounted for a larger number of illiterate adults and out-of-school youths. 
 
Reacting to this, Ms Bokova called for more investment and effective policies to embed action for literacy within wider development policies. She also urged Nigeria authorities to prioritise education, as this would bring about sustainable development across the country.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says Nigeria has refused to develop because it was built on a ‘satanic’ foundation. 
 
The former minister said this in a Facebook post titled, ‘Lord Lugard’s Magic and Flora Shaw’s Spell.’ 
 
Fani-Kayode, who also served as the Minister of Tourism under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the manner with which Nigeria was created in 1914 was the reason the country was still struggling. 
 
He said both Lord Fredrick Lugard, who was the first Governor-General of Nigeria; and his wife, Flora Shaw (later Flora Lugard), who gave Nigeria its name, were worshippers of Satan. 
 
Fani-Kayode said, “It is generally agreed though not commonly admitted that both Lugard and Flora Shaw were Luciferians who practised the black arts and all manner of satanic rituals. 
 
“He (Lugard) was a ‘High Priest of the Freemasons’ whilst they were both avid followers of Aleister Crowley, the leading satanist of his day and the self-styled ‘world’s most wicked man.’” 
 
“This explains a lot. It also explains why Shaw gave us the name Nigeria – a name which has questionable roots. Anyone that doubts this should consider the literal translation of Nigeria into Latin: it means “the area of darkness” and there is a deep spiritual and mystical reason why she gave us that name. 
 
“It comes with a lot of baggage because not much good can come out of an area of darkness.” 
 
Fani-Kayode, who was the spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, said most of the African countries that were colonised by Britain had since changed their names. 
 
He said only Sudan and Nigeria refused to change their names and that was why they were still struggling. 
 
He added, “Most of the former British colonies changed their names after independence for similar reasons but because most of our leaders in Nigeria were not aware of these matters, they refused to do so. 
 
“Lugard and Shaw were an unlikely couple who had no children. What held them together was more spiritual and mystical than anything else and Nigeria and Sudan are their joint legacy to the world. 
 
“Sadly, both countries are having major challenges today. Sudan has broken into two after a protracted and bitter civil war while Nigeria is experiencing serious regional, ethnic and religious tensions. It is clear that our nation needs a good deal of prayers. May God deliver us from Lord Lugard’s magic and his beautiful wife’s spell.” 
 
Fani-Kayode said Nigeria was created such that the North could rule forever while the resources of the South would continually be exploited. 
 
The former minister said it was a miracle that Nigeria had only witnessed one civil war since it gained independence in 1960. 
 
He argued that the only thing that had kept Nigeria united was the oil in the Niger Delta as well as the strength, patience and collective will of the people. 
 
He said, “This was his (Lugard’s) vision: a northern Nigeria that was essentially the ‘head of the household’ and that would remain in control of all the powers and resources of the state and a southern Nigeria that would play the role of a passive and subservient wife whose destiny it was to remain in perpetual subjugation and bondage. 
 
“The truth is that the British colonialists were masters of divide and rule. The amalgamation of the southern and northern protectorates was a Greek gift which was designed to fail and to crumble at the appropriate time. Nigerians have done well to have held it together for so long and the fact that we have only experienced one civil war is miraculous.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerians have no business with poverty given the enormous resources the country has. 
 
To this end, he has promised to take appropriate measures to stamp out corruption and reposition Nigeria as a prosperous nation that can adequately cater for its citizens. 
 
The President made the assertion, yesterday, at the opening of the 45th Annual Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, in Abuja. 
 
The President, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Anastasia Nwaobia, blamed the poverty in the land on mis-governance and lack of transparency. 
 
Meanwhile, former Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Remi Babalola, has recommended compulsory assets declaration for all principal officers in the executive arm of government as a means of checking the menace of corruption. 
 
President Buhari said the nation’s ability to create wealth had increasingly been hampered by lack of good governance and accountability in the management of public resources at all levels in the past. 
Buhari said: “As blessed as we are as a nation, Nigerians have no business being classified as poor. Yet, through the greed of some unpatriotic few, our commonwealth has been badly pillaged in the name of public service. 
 
“Our ability as a nation to create wealth has increasingly been hampered by the lack of prudence, transparency and honesty in the management of public resources by some of those entrusted with the duty of governance at all levels in the past, so much that in the midst of plenty, Nigerians are now suffering great deprivation. 
 
“This should not be allowed to continue. The project called Nigeria must be given our all. The nation ought and must leave the throes of poverty and underdevelopment because I believe we are naturally destined for greatness.’’ 
 
While calling for a collective effort in fighting the cankerworm, he expressed optimism of a glorious future, and urged Nigerians not to thrive on the illusion that the battle for enthronement of the right values will be easy as according to him, ‘corruption will certainly fight back’. 
 
But he said his administration is resolute in its desire to effect a change in the nation’s value system. 
‘‘To achieve this, we must collectively resolve to build today for a blissful tomorrow. I am optimistic that the glorious dawn we all hope for will not be long in coming. 
 
“But we are resolute in our commitment to effect change in our value system. We will give the battle our all to guarantee victory,’’ he said. 
 
Buhari said he would lead by example by making effort to live above board, and promised to overhaul the bureaucracy of the public sector to further engender transparency and improve productivity in public governance. 
 
Similarly, the President assured that his administration would strengthen the anti-corruption war by reinvigorating the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related, ICPC to reinforce accountability in public governance. 
 
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of the Institute, Otumba Deru, said that ICAN had made remarkable progress in reforming the accounting profession in its 50 years of existence. 
 
According to him, the professional body had trained and certified over 40,000 world-class chartered accountants who are adding value in various sectors of the national and international economy. 
 
The former minister, who is the Chairman/Chief Strategist of Alternative Capital Partners Limited (ACAP), attributed the alarming rate of corruption in the system to the culture of impunity that had existed in the country. 
 
He therefore advised that all principal officers of the government, including the ministers, permanent secretaries, director-generals and heads of government must declare their assets publicly before and after leaving office. 
 
He said, “Our culture of impunity is the bane of the entrenched corruption in our society. The value destruction and corruption undermine any economic development or social change we may aspire for our nation. 
 
“Mismanagement and misallocation of resources, coupled with an unprecedented level of corruption have been at their highest in the history of our nation in the last six years. 
 
“Performance or success in public space was measured by the conversion rate of public funds into private accounts. It looks as if democracy has been substituted with kleptocracy.” 
 
Babalola, who chaired the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between 2007 and 2010, urged the new Administration to confront the endemic corruption whole-heartedly in order to resolve the country’s mal-functionality. 
 
He consequently recommended the expansion of the whistle-blowing and fraud protocol by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to include the payment of 10 percent of the forfeited undeclared assets to whistle blowers/informants if successfully prosecuted. 
 
The former minister, who decried the absence of transparency in the oil sector and the NNPC, regretted that the NNPC’s core competence had been reduced to importing refined products and paying subsidies to bogus companies. 
 
He wondered why it was difficult for the NNPC to compete with the likes of PETROBRAS of Brazil and PETRONAS of Malaysia. 
 
“It is counter intuitive that we deliberately ensure that receipts and proceeds into the nation’s treasury are not accounted for. Such has been our contempt for transparency that an incumbent governor of an operationally and legally independent central bank, who publicly alerted the nation, was forced out of a fixed tenure. 
 
“Of course given its systemic importance to the economy, there is no justification for the state-owned oil sector monopoly (the NNPC) not to publicly publish its audited accounts and even quarterly accounts like all listed companies on the stock exchange,” said Babalola, who is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. 
 
He recalled drawing the attention of the nation to the parlous state of the NNPC’s accounts five years ago, adding that many sympathisers feared for his life as it amounted to “stepping on a snake”. 
He affirmed, “I was unperturbed and unruffled but ready and willing to take a walk as a statement of intent that if they wanted to continue in that decadence of resource mismanagement, I was not going to be a part of it.” 
 
He explained that the Nigerian dream was about prosperity, dignity and hope for all, and not poverty, violence, corruption and destructive leadership which bankrupted the nation.

A Lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Sen. Shehu Sani has condemned Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, over his Monday’s criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments so far. 
 
Governor Fayose had a statement issued on Monday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, accused Buhari’s style of governance since his emergence on May 29, 2015, as one that portrays him as a president of the Northern Nigeria only. 
 
Fayose who said it was wrong for President Buhari to have made 31 major appointments and only seven will come from the South while 24 were from the North, explained that his appointments made so far negate the principle of federal character, adding that it appears the unity in diversity of Nigeria is being taken for granted by the President. 
 
However, responding to Fayose’s outburst, Sani in a statement on Tuesday, said although everyone has a right to freedom of expression, but that Fayose’s recent utterances are nothing but “divisive, inciting, provocative, and mischievous tantrums against President Muhammadu Buhari.” 
 
The activist lawmaker described Fayose as a man suffering from political depression in the aftermath of the defeat of his patriarch, former President Goodluck Jonathan, in the last Presidential election on March 28, 2015. 
 
The statement reads thus: 
 
1-I recognize the fundamental rights of Ekiti State Governor to freedom of expression. 
 
2-I unreservedly condemn his divisive, inciting, provocative and mischievous tantrums and invectives against President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
3-Ekiti Governor is a relic of the old order, he represents the old Nigeria of waste, of hollow ritual of noise and nuisance. 
 
4-Fayose is a man suffering from political depression in the aftermath of the defeat of his patriarch Goodluck Jonathan. He is a hallucinating Man of the ancient, yet to come to terms with the realities of a new dawn and new Nigeria. 
 
5-The Ekiti governor is a man on the loose ready to use stones, sticks and any object to inflict harm and to be noticed. 
 
6-Fayose failed to stop the election of President Muhammadu Buhari by the use of false, misleading and subversive propaganda laced with lies and deceit and now resort to firing arrows of hate, smear and distortions.

 Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has urged Nigerians to encourage the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to confront the problems militating against the nation by appointing persons based on merit and not ethnicity. 
 
Oshiomhole stated this while commending the President on the appointments of the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and others made so far, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria. 
 
According to Oshiomhole, “The Nigerian nation has come to a point where we have to use the best hands to confront the peculiarity of our problems. 
 
It is not all the time we descend to the level of geopolitical balancing; we need to employ unusual methods to solve an unusual problem. The level of decay in the country at present requires very seasoned hands and incorruptible Nigerians that will help translate the APC agenda of change for the benefit of all Nigerians. 
 
“We must not reduce governance to political patronage of bread and butter. 
 
 The governor congratulates the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Comptroller General of Customs, all of who he had very close relationship with and whose credentials stand tall among their compeers. He wishes them well in their new jobs of helping to sanitize a system that has become so rotten and corrupt as a result of manifest incompetence and mismanagement.”

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to invite suspected looters of the country’s treasury for talks. 
 
He said the President’s efforts to retrieve looted funds would be made easier if looters were allowed to return their loot without castigating them publicly. 
 
Okogie, in an interview with our correspondent, said it was also cheaper to recover loot through dialogue than charging suspected public fund thieves to court. 
 
He said, “I agree with the National Peace Committee that the President should tread softly and should set criteria that he is going to use. Corruption is endemic in Nigeria. That is why they are asking for caution: ‘Look at it properly,’” he said. 
 
The cleric urged President Buhari to invite those suspected to have looted government treasury “to speak to their conscience.” 
 
He warned that it would be difficult for the government to retrieve the loot as the suspects would use their financial resources to create legal hurdles for their prosecutors. 
 
Okogie said, “People like that, when they go to court, they don’t look right and left before they do things. If I have a man like that and I know he has the money, I will weigh the options; ‘will it profit the nation if I take this man to court. If I take him to court, he is going to get a lawyer. The lawyer will be employed with part of the money I am looking for. 
 
“The lawyer will now start to ask for adjournments and all what not. I may not get this money until after four years. And the judge too, in the mean time, is getting (part of the loot); you will not know. He won’t just adjourn anyhow. 
 
“The lawyer will invite his brother (the judge) to come and get part of the cake until half of it will be gone. We have to look at the issue from that angle. And you may end up getting nothing.” 
 
When asked if such would be possible in a sanitised judiciary, he asked, "Is it sanitised?" 
 
According to Okogie, these are the areas the President ought to have started his anti-graft war by "sanitising and purifying" the judiciary first. "At least, you will know that three-quarters of the place is tight, and then you can start (the probe)," he added. 
 
The fiery cleric, who decried the spate of moral decadence in the society, stated that it was the responsibility of the family to bring up the child well. 
 
He lamented that parents were no more disciplined as before, saying, "These days, they don’t care anymore. That is not right; that is not how they were brought up." 
 
Okogie attributed the increasing spate of corruption in the country to declining moral upbringing of children. 
 
He said, "Look at the probe that is going on now, for example; how can one person manage to get (steal) one-point-something billion; not even million but billion, and very soon you will hear of trillions? Where did he get it from? That is how it is going on, and he is from a family. 
 
And if his conscience worried him, he will run to his pastor to say 'I want to pay tithe - 10 per cent; this is my tithe.' The pastor collects the tithe. Seeing that it is huge money, the pastor will ask him, 'what can I do for you?'
