The federal government has approved extra assets to boost the Nigerian military campaign against Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
A statement on Saturday by Army Director of Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the assent.
Defence Minister, Bashir Magashi made the announcement on Friday when he visited troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

The Kano Police Command has arrested 59 suspected armed robbers and drug dealers during the just concluded ‘Eid-Maulud’ celebrations.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa 35 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, while the remaining 24 were arrested for drug-related offences, adding that the suspects were all residents of the Kano metropolitan area.
Haruna-Kiyawa further said the suspects were arrested during the Eid-Maulud celebrations, popularly known as the ”Takutaha period”, between Oct. 19 and 27, 2021.
The PPRO further said that the police recovered various dangerous weapons and drug substances from the suspects, warning hoodlums and drug dealers to repent or face arrest and prosecution.

Meanwhile, he added that the suspects would be charged to court, upon completion of investigations.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the annihilation of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) controlled Eastern Security Network (ESN) fighters in Anambra.
Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu announced the elimination in a statement on Saturday.
Troops of 82 Division conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN neutralised ESN operatives in a gun battle Friday evening at Nnobi Junction in Idemili South Local Government.
Nwachukwu said the operation followed the attack on personnel of security agencies deployed at Ekwulobia Roundabout in Aguata Local Government Area.

It was reported how the assailants ambushed, shot and killed two Department of State Services (DSS) officers.
Nwachukwu recalled that after the attack, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and embarked on the pursuit of the criminals along Nnewi – Nnobi road.
The soldiers made contact with the fleeing gunmen, engaged them and killed four. A number of weapons and items were recovered.
These include two AK-47 Rifles, one GALIL Ace 5.56 x 45 Iwi Gun, one Avofeng Handheld radio and one Black Highlander jeep.
Similarly, troops foiled another attack by IPOB ESN at Umunze checkpoint, in Orumba South Local Government Area.
The troops overwhelmed the secessionists in the shootout that ensued, forcing them to take to their heels.
The gang abandoned one Pump Action gun with nine cartridges, one dark blue Ford vehicle and four motorcycles.
The Nigerian Army condemned the attempt by IPOB ESN to instil fear “and sabotage forthcoming Anambra governorship election”.
“Members of the public are reassured that the Nigerian Army, sister services and other security agencies will not relent in confronting all criminals intents against the citizenry and national interest”, Nwachukwu added.

The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, has said that illegitimate funds finding their way into the nation’s economy are frustrating economic competitions and planning towards achieving economic growth.

He noted that the commission is working assiduously to curtail the problem.
Speaking on the dangers of illicit financial flows into the Nigerian economy, the EFCC boss said: “it is a huge problem when you have illegitimate funds finding their way into our economy.

An Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ndigbo United Forum (NUF), has warned against interference and disruption of the coming November 6th Governorship election in Anambra State under whatever guise.
The group tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible exercise ahead of the November 6th gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
The NUF’s warning is coming against the backdrop of the threat and exchange of political brickbats by groups and politicians ahead of the gubernatorial poll in Anambra.
In a release by its Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Chinedu Mba and sent to newsmen on Friday night, the group reminded political actors that Anambra, just like every other Igbo state, is too important to trifle with, cautioning them to refrain from violent tendencies capable of causing chaos and anarchy.

The NUF called on all fighters and promoters of Igbo cause, particularly, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to encourage a record turnout for the forthcoming election, so that Anambra and Igbos by extension will come out en masses to elect their leader by themselves.
According to the ethnic organization, “the lockdown threats on the election day, is very troubling to all ears. However, we consider it a rumour that would be jettisoned in due time; for we have confidence in the ability of our youths to reach a sound judgement; no matter how much annoyed they are.
“The legacy of our brave ancestors, which late Dim Odumegwu Chukwuemeka Ojukwu embodied and exemplified in the form of a political movement – Igbo party, must be carefully considered and respected”.
The NUF also frowned at the unguarded utterances by some politicians and groups which has instilled fear in people, reassuring the Anambra electorates that their safety is guaranteed on the election day.
It stated, “NUF would be overjoyed to see a reversal of the unguarded utterances and rhetoric from various corners, in respect to the Anambra election. And, we are banking our hopes on a very solid foundation. We cannot afford to shoot ourselves in the feet, whilst trying to fight for ourselves. We must allow Superior Reason and Cool Headedness to guide our choice of words and actions.
“In our bid to fight for ourselves, we must ensure that we don’t give room for enemies of Ndigbo to assail us. We are in a battle quite alright, but we need to apply wisdom and stealth in order not to end up offering our enemies a cheap victory in a platter”.
The NUF further reiterated her call on INEC, Security operatives, and other interested parties, to ensure that the Anambra State election must reflect, in its entirety, the global best practices; any attempt to defile the sanctity of a free and fair election would be roundly resisted by Igbo nation.
According to the statement,”Let it serve as a litmus test for the good change we have been yearning for in Nigeria’s electoral sector. Let the election be remarkable both in appearance and reality. Anyone, or any group of people, suggesting that we fold our arms and watch Anambra degenerate into a rudderless ship, is not advocating a good thing for the Igbo nation.
“The sanctity of electoral autonomy and freedom for all Igbo enclave is sacrosanct, and as such, must be protected by all means. That is who we are, free people!
“Granted that we are being marginalized and shortchanged; granted that marginalization has subsisted for a very long time; granted that there is an urgent need for Ndigbo to rally round together and fight the injustice, but trying to stop the gubernatorial election is not an acceptable means of fighting the injustice against us”.
The NUF also disclosed that it has mobilized members across the 21 local government areas in Anambra state to complement sound monitoring efforts.
“We won’t be observing from afar, rather, we are fully on ground to monitor the electoral proceedings. We are strongly committed to ensuring that due diligence is strictly adhered to.
“As a universally acknowledged proud, egalitarian, utilitarian, republican and peaceful tribe, all hands must be on deck to ensure a seamless electoral process that will culminate in the election of a popular candidate. A candidate that will key into the collective Igbo cause of furthering our lots as a vibrant people.
“All agitations, misunderstanding, rancour and wrangling, must not be allowed to grow taller than the need for a peaceful and transparent election. At this point, we must do well to eschew undue sentiments and rash opinions,” the socio-cultural body in Igboland concluded.

Jennifer Iorliam, one of the two corps members who recently regained their freedom from bandits’ den, has recounted their seven-day plight in captivity.
Iorliam said their kidnappers gave them poor food and dirty water during the week-long traumatic stay in captivity.
Our correspondent had reported that Iorliam, Joseph Aondona – another corps member – and four others were abducted last Tuesday on their way to resume at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Kebbi State.
They were freed on Tuesday after their abductors collected N9m ransom. They had boarded a bus from Benue State to Sokoto State before their vehicle was intercepted around Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The corps members were supposed to board another bus from Sokoto to their destination in Kebbi State.
Amid the telecommunication shutdown in many parts of Zamfara State, the bandits reached out to the victims’ families, demanding N2m ransom each.
Speaking to City Round on Thursday, Iorliam said their bus driver had slowed down to navigate through the potholes on the road when the kidnappers shot into the air and came out from the bush.
She said, “Some of them were dressed in military camouflage. They ordered us from the vehicle and took us into the bush. The driver and one other person escaped. The bandits collected the money we had on us and led us deeper into the bush where some people carried us on motorcycles.
“They stopped at a stream and asked us to cross to the other side. We continued the journey, climbing mountains before we got to where they held other people captive. There were many people there; I couldn’t count them. That night, some people escaped. The next day, they started chaining us so that we would not escape.”
Iorliam stated that two days later, the bandits took them out on bikes to search for a mobile network, adding that after a long journey along the bush path, the abductors found a network on a mountain and contacted their families for ransom.
She said the kidnappers returned them to the den and took them to another location after two days for further negotiation of ransoms on the phone.
She said, “We got scared at a point when there were disagreements over the ransoms. They were threatening to kill us. For the seven days that we spent there, they were giving us bread and biscuits. They gave us stagnant, muddy water to drink. When we fell sick, they gave us the same water to drink.
“I had a stomach ache one day, and the other time, I had a serious fever. They boiled the dirty water and gave it to me to drink. The nasty memory is still fresh. Even when I am in the midst of people, it keeps replaying in my head.”
The corps member said she and Aondona had been redeployed to Benue State for the one-year mandatory NYSC scheme.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Command in Oyo, has arrested 26 people, including two herbalists, for alleged cybercrime.
Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the commission’s Spokesperson, made the disclosure in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Friday.
Uwujaren said that the two self-acclaimed herbalists were arrested on Friday at Soka area of Ibadan over their alleged involvement in offences bordering on internet fraud.
He said that they were arrested alongside 24 others, four of whom claimed to be students of Lead City University.

Uwujaren said that 22 of the suspects have been indicted by their ongoing investigation.
He said that the suspects were arrested following verified intelligence on their alleged involvement in cyber fraud.
Uwujaren listed items recovered from them as cars, mobile phones, television sets, PlayStation 5, laptops, among others.

Anxiety and confusion on Friday trailed the fate and whereabouts of the Supreme Court Justice, Mary Ekaego Peter Odili following the alleged unlawful siege laid on her Abuja family residence by security operatives.
Justice Odili’s family residence at lmo Rivers Street in Maitama was said to have been besieged by fully armed plain-clothed security men for undisclosed reasons at about 5pm of Friday, October 29.
However, security operatives guarding the house were said to have resisted the take over of the house without a court order or instructions from the above.
In the drama that ensued, the unidentified security operatives were said to have stayed put waiting for instructions from above to the resident guards to surrender for them to take over the house.

At the time of this report, we could not ascertain the fate and whereabouts of the Justice as all roads leading to the street have been effectively blocked.
However, in a drama that compounded the problem and confusion, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, claimed it did not carry out any operation in Justice Odili’s Home
“The Commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.
“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.
“The Commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report,” a statement was issued by Mr Wilson Uwujare, Head, Media & Publicity read.
At the time of this report, the situation remained uncertain as the Director of Information of the Department of the State Service DSS, Dr Peter Ofunaya did not pick his cell phone and no statement was issued on the matter by the security agency.

Senate Minority Leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has disclosed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and his group never said election should not hold in Anambra State.
Abaribe said fifth columnists are behind the no election order and not Kanu or IPOB.
Speaking during a town hall meeting with the leadership and students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Abaribe said Kanu’s lawyers confirmed that the order did not come from their leader.
“Who gave the order that there will be no election? IPOB has never said that there will be no election in Anambra. It is the handwork of 5th columnists,” Abaribe said.

There has been tension over the planned conduct of the November 6th governorship election in Anambra State.
Rumours making the rounds have it that IPOB declared that the forthcoming election won’t hold.
However, IPOB has denied giving such an order, stressing that it has nothing to do with Nigeria’s electoral system.
Meanwhile, the separatist group had ordered a sit-at-home in Anambra State, starting from November 5th.
The order is aimed at prevailing on the Federal Government to release Kanu.

A Magistrates’ Court in Ilorin on Friday ordered that two men be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly procuring an abortion for a woman.
 
The police charged Abdullateef Ibrahim, a barber, and Ogundele Adeyinka, a patent medicine store operator, with criminal conspiracy and causing miscarriage, NAN reports.
 
Magistrate Abayomi Muyiwa ordered that they should be remanded in Oke-Kura correctional centre.
 
Magistrate Muyiwa adjourned the case until November 4 for further mention.

The direct complaint was filed by Mrs. Victoria Okoduwa, the Kwara Chairperson of the International Federation of Female Lawyers.
 
She said that Ibrahim impregnated a woman (name withheld) and lured her to a patent medicine store at Isale Aluko owned by Adeyinka for an abortion.
 
She alleged that Ibrahim also admitted that he took the victim to Adeyinka, who administered some drugs and injections on her which resulted in the pregnancy termination.

Senate Minority Leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has advised Anambra people to drop their fears over the forthcoming governorship poll.
 
The lawmaker gave the advise against the backdrop of attacks in the State ahead of the November 6 exercise.
 
He spoke on Thursday at a rally for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Valentine Ozigbo at Atani Central School in Ogbaru.
 
Abaribe charged citizens to apply their rights, noting that security agencies were working to ensure peaceful election.

The Senator stated that what Anambra and South-East needs is proper leadership, not “champagne drinkers and confused people as governors”.
 
He said many can attest to the fact that the state is broken and needs visionary management to rescue it from the doldrums.
 
“Do not be afraid coming out to vote. Come out and exercise your franchise. Security agencies are already top of the situation”, Abaribe said.
 
In his remarks, Ozjbgbo, whose running mate is Azuka Enemo, assured that the PDP will ensure good governance in Anambra.
 
Former Governor and PDP 2019 vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, PDP Anambra flagbearer in 2017, Oseloka Obaze, and other party chieftains attended the event.

A 22-year-old NCE graduate, Idris Shuaib, has reportedly committed suicide in Kwara North Senatorial District over his inability to have s3...x with women.
The incident occurred on Thursday in Gwanara community, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Reports reaching newsmen in Ilorin said the entire Ankara Wooro compound in Gwanara community was thrown into a mourning mood when the lifeless body of Idris was discovered dangling on a cashew tree.
An uncle of the deceased said “Idris left home very early on Thursday, telling his father that he wanted to go to the farm as his usual routine not knowing he had another fatal motive this time around.”

Spokesman of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ilorin, said the deceased killed himself inside his father’s farm located at Gwanara-Munduro road, with the aid of rope and one jerry can.
“On Thursday October 28th,2021, the NSCDC office in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area, got a report about one Idris Shuaib (22) who allegedly committed suicide in the farm citing his inability to copulate with women,” he said.
According to the deceased’s father, Malam Muhammad Idris, “the man, a graduate of Muyideen College of Education, Ilorin (Gwanara Campus) had made futile attempts in the past to end his life before this unfortunate incident.”
The remains of the deceased has been brought down from the tree and taken to the hospital for autopsy, while investigation is ongoing, the spokesman added.

Tottenham Hotspur star, Lucas Moura has warned his teammates that Manchester United are ‘hungry’ because of their latest humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has said it is working on achieving consensus candidate in all elective positions at the party’s national convention scheduled for Saturday.
The Forum Chairman, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the main opposition’s governors on Thursday night in Abuja.
Tambuwal said that not less than 80 per cent had been achieved in producing consensus candidates for the elective positions.
“We held the meeting of the PDP governors forum and as you can see, all of us attended.

“Chairman of the convention committee brought us up to the speed on how prepared they are for us to hold our convention starting from Friday, Oct. 29 through to Saturday.
“We are also happy to say that part of what we discussed was the process of arriving at consensus during the convention.
“So far, we can say that with certainty that we have achieved not less than 80% of that process and it is still ongoing.
“We are hoping that at the end of the day, we are going to have a hitch free convention and possibly have all the candidates emerge via consensus.
“Consensus is part of democratic process and we are imbibing that in the interest of our party so that we can continue to have stability that will reposition the party as we have always said for the future,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, has given a reason Nigeria is still battling with insecurity.
Mustapha said Nigeria has not reformed military architecture.
The SGF disclosed this yesterday when he received the 24-member advisory committee on the reform of the armed forces and defence in Abuja.
According to him, the territorial nature of the country called for a security rejig.

Mustapha said, “Reforms are critical and difficult to implement, but the step taken by the ministry of defence is a right step in the right direction to address security challenges.
“The reasons we are still battling with insecurity is because we have not reformed our military architecture, and considering the territorial nature of our country, there is a need for the security rejig.
“I am committed to anything that will transform the armed forces and in any capacity, I will do my best for the necessary approval.’’
Meanwhile, the committee, chaired by Alwali Kazir, was inaugurated in September by Bashir Magashi, Minister of Defence, to drive the recommendations on the reform of armed forces.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed there is a clandestine plan by the Nigerian government to eliminate lawyers representing their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
This was contained in a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful and sent to newsmen on Friday.
“We wish to put the whole world on notice about the wicked plot by the frustrated Government of Nigeria to secretly eliminate our resilient lawyers, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor; and Barrister Aloy Ejimakor over their committed efforts in the defense of our leader who was renditioned from Kenya.
“The Nigeria Government is not happy with the expertise and professional prowess of these veteran lawyers and other members of the legal team to deflate the fabricated charges against our leader, hence their plot to eliminate them,” it read in part.

IPOB also alleged that “this covert plan extend to the elimination of Mazi Benjamin Madubugwu, Bright Chimezie Ishinwa, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, David Nwawuisi as well as several State Coordinators are in their elimination list handed down by the Nigerian government to its Security agencies.
“The Nigerian government intends to carry out this targeted elimination through the security personnel deployed in South East under the guise of Operation Golden Dawn to do the dirty job.
“The compromised security agents have decided to eliminate Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers once they step into any part of South East.”
It further warned that the “South East remains our ancestral home and we cannot run away because we committed no sacrilege in our land.
“Anybody planing to kill us will be battling with the spirit of our ancestors and the spirit that own Biafraland.”

Better days are in sight for Nigerian prisoners as the Senate, through its Committee on Interior, on Wednesday increased the daily feeding cost of a prisoner to N1,000 from N750 proposed by the executive in the 2022 budget.
 
This is as the committee planned to converge the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, and the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, on expeditious justice delivery in decongesting the prisons.
 
In his presentation before the Committee during the 2022 budget defence session, acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, Idris Isa, had said the daily N450 feeding cost for each of the prisoners, has been increased to N750 as proposed in the 2022 budget estimates.
 
According to him, 47,959 out of the 66,346 total inmates in custodian centres across the country are unconvicted yet awaiting trial, faulting it to be the reason for congestion and failure to meet international standards.

Moved by empathy and compassion, the Committee Chairman, Senator Kashim Shettima (APC Borno Central) and members, frowned at the N750 feeding cost per day proposed for each inmate across the custodian centres.
 
On behalf of the committee, Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP Enugu North) said going by the value of Naira today and increasing costs of consumables, N750 is insufficient.
 
“Mr Chairman, I will urge this committee to jerk up the proposed N750 feeding cost per day on each of the inmates at the custodian centres to at least N1,000.00 because no grown-up Nigeria today can survive with N750 per day as far as feeding is concerned,” he said.
 
Seconding the motion, Senator Betty Apiafi (PDP Rivers West), said the proposed N1,000 should be the minimum and must be reflected in the final budget to be passed for the correctional service.
 
The Chairman of the committee accordingly ruled in favour of the motion by hitting the gavel on the table to that effect.
 
“The proposed N1,000.00 is the minimum and will surely be reflected in the budget to be passed by way of required appropriation,” he said.
 
Senator Utazi moved a motion for the committee to have a dialogue with the CJN and NBA on the problem of Prison congestion for a way out.
 
Seconding the motion, Senator Betty Apiafi further said a proper motion should be sponsored on the floor of the Senate by any member of the committee to that effect.
 
In his remarks, The chairman said legislative action will surely be taken in that direction for required cohesion between the arms of government.
 
“It is very worrisome for a percentage of inmates awaiting trials across the various correctional centres to be 80 per cent while those actually convicted is 20 per cent
 
“This Committee shall surely meet the CJN, NBA and other stakeholders in justice delivery in the country for lasting solutions to the problem”, he said.

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba was on Thursday impeached by 8 out of the 24 members of the House.
This occurred at an unusual sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Saleh Yipmong.

The Speaker has been under fire since the unrest that bedeviled some communities in Jos North and Bassa LGA, where several people were killed, many injured and others displaced from their ancestral homes.

The House of Assembly had given the Governor of the State a two-week ultimatum to take action on the resolutions forwarded to him on “security matters and how to restore peace in the State.”
The House also called on the Governor to come up with a statement defending the citizenry in the wake of the myriad of security challenges bedeviling the State.
It was gathered that the eight members gained access to the House as early as 6am to carry out the act.
They operated under the heavy presence of armed security personnel.
The lawmakers attempted to impeach the Speaker on Wednesday night but could not succeed.
Hon. Nanbol Daniel, (PDP, Langtang North Central) said that the impeachment would not hold because it did not follow the House rules on impeachment of speaker and deputy speaker.
Recall that there was petition making the rounds on social media in the early hours of Wednesday by a group under the aegis of Youths Rights Against Corruption (YRAC) accusing the Speaker of corruption.
YRAC said it has submitted a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the Speaker, accusing him of several allegations, including abuse of office and financial misappropriation.
The group also demanded that the Speaker should immediately step down from his position pending the completion of investigation.
Executive Director, YRAC Comrade Abednego Musa, signed the petition titled: “Petition Against Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, Nuhu Abok Ayuba, On Gross Financial Misconduct, Criminal Breach Of Public Trust And Abuse Of Office”.
The embattled Speaker is yet to respond to the development.

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has expressed readiness to build three-bedroom flats and nine self-contained apartments across the 13 local government areas of the state to help address the issue of housing deficit among officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force serving in the state.

The Special Security Consultant to Ebonyi State Government, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, revealed this while inspecting some of the ongoing projects at Owutu Edda community, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday.
According to him, “His Excellency, the Governor and father of the state, made this promise about five months ago and today it is a reality with the buildings in the thirteen council areas at different levels of completion.

“This is a prototype of what the Governor is putting in place to provide befitting accommodations for the Divisional Police Officers, who will make use of the three-bedroom flats while the junior officers will reside in the self-contained apartments.
“I eulogise the Governor’s unfiltered zeal and enthusiasm to reposition the police. The government will also furnish the buildings with state-of-the-art facilities, before handing them over to the beneficiaries in the next few months to come.
“The administration of Governor David Umahi has provided body protective wears, operational vehicles, modern communication gadgets, among other facilities to help the police and other sister agencies to curb insecurity in the state. I attribute the appreciable level of peace in the state to the calculated investments so far made in the security architecture. I call on other Governors in the South-East region and beyond to emulate the leadership quality of Chief David Umahi.
“I appeal to the general public to desist from any act capable of endangering the lives of the officers and collaborate with them in the fight against hoodlums, by volunteering useful information that could help nib crime in the bud.

The Gombe State chapter of the National Youth Service Corps has warned corps members against feigning sickness in order to be relocated to another state of their choice.
The Camp Director, Ndako Bida, gave this warning to corps members as he lectured them about relocation from one camp to another.
This was contained in a statement by the Gombe NYSC chapter on Thursday, where Bida also encouraged the corps members to be active in camp activities.

President Muhammadu Buhari has prayed for everlasting peace to reign in Nigeria and around the world.
Buhari, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for an investment summit, said the prayers when he visited the Mosque of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, Islam’s second holiest in Madinah.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu disclosed this in a statement titled ‘Buhari prays for everlasting peace in Nigeria.’
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari continues his visit to Saudi Arabia with a brief stopover at Madinah where he observed his evening prayers and engaged in intense prayers, along with his entourage for the return of peace and security all over Nigeria and the world at large.

“The President who had earlier been received at the Prince Muhammad Abdulaziz Airport, Madinah by the Deputy Governor of the Region, Prince Sa’ud Al-Faisal spent quality time at the Mosque of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, Islam’s second holiest, engaging in prayers and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
“President Buhari and the delegation prayed for the well-being of the nation and its people and for the full restoration of peace and security in Nigerian and around the globe. Prayers for the economy, ravaged by the pandemic to fully recover for the benefit of the nation and its people were also offered.
“The President will later on in the evening proceed to Makkah for the performance of the Umrah (lesser Hajj).”

Liverpool want to make Mohamed Salah to become their highest-paid player and will use the offer of a lucrative signing-on fee to sweeten the deal, SportsMail reports.
Salah’s current contract at Anfield runs through to 2023.
But Liverpool have made it a priority to get the Egyptian forward locked onto fresh terms like many of his team-mates.
However, the Reds do not want to shatter their wage structure, but will instead consider using a signing-on fee.

Salah already has 15 goals in all competitions this season, including last weekend’s stunning hat-trick against Manchester United.
It is understood that suggestions Salah is holding out for £500,000 a week is not true, as he understands the financial parameters of owners Fenway Sports Group.
Any new deal would however see him become the best-paid player in the club’s history, eclipsing Vigil Van Dijk’s new £220,000-a-week contract.
Last week, Salah said: “It doesn’t depend on me, but if you asked me I would love to stay until the last day of my football (career).

The ongoing process for the recruitment of 10,000 constables by the Nigeria Police Force has been described as a good step in the right direction.
Recall that the recruitment was earlier stalled months ago following issues of funding.
A competent source hinted that over 65,000 youths are already battling for the available 10,000 jobs, which is a completion of the earlier suspended 2020 recruitment process.
The Force spokesman, Frank Mba, had in a statement, advised candidates to check their status on the recruitment portal, which will be opened from Monday, October 18, through to Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

The statement titled, ‘NPF, PSC set to conclude 2020 recruitment exercise,’ read in part, “Candidates who are qualified for the next stage of the recruitment are to print out their examination slips, which must be presented on the examination date, Friday, 29th and Saturday, 30th October, 2021, at designated centres across the country.
“Candidates are equally advised to check their email and phone numbers for notifications.”
A visit to the training centres across the country showed a beehive of activities, with the consultants ready for the exercise, which shall commence with a Computer-Based Test, CBT.
In Enugu State, the case is not different in Oji River training ground of the Nigeria Police, where adequate facilities have already been provided for the exercise.
A security expert, Mr. Ambrose Ukoh described the ongoing exercise as very vital in view of the security challenges facing the country.
“Nigerians are expecting to have well-trained members of the force that will be of help in making the country overcome her current security challenges.
“All the stakeholders know the importance of this exercise, so I’m not anticipating any compromise. From the body language of the IGP, Baba Usman, he is keen on having a transparent process.
“Since he took over as the police helmsman, he has been trying to reposition the force, especially non-tolerance to human rights abuse and all manner of extortion.
“You should also not forget that Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, the DIG in charge of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, who is directly handling the recruitment process is a well grounded and articulate officer.
“So, in view of all these, I believe the process will record huge success. We are upbeat that the new contables would be of international standard; the signs are there already,” he noted.
Also speaking on the recruitment exercise, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said there was high expectation on the police in view of the security challenges in the country.
According to Isiguzoro, “we are keenly monitoring the process and we expect nothing but the best.
“In the past, the issue has always been that we have a police force that lacks requisite training, but with what we have on ground this time around, we believe we are going to have well-trained fresh personnel.”
“Apart from physical training, one area we believe is also of utmost importance is human rights; they should at this early stage make them know that they must have absolute regard for the rights of the people.
“With this, I believe they will mark the beginning of the much-awaited reform in the police force. So far, the feelers we are getting from the training grounds are positive,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, when contacted by newsmen to give an update on the recruitment process, DIG Danmallam Mohammed said every plan was on course.
He re-echoed that, “there are certain requirements for the online application; have it in your mind that it is last year’s exercise, which was halted owing to paucity of funds; we are now completing it as the Federal Government has released the money.
“We have alerted the applicants to go back to our website to know their status, whether they were selected or disqualified; if they were disqualified, they will tell them the reason.
“Part of the rule, applicants should be between the ages of 18-25; so if somebody has all the requirements, but age wise, he is like 30 years, the person automatically will be disqualified. Then the issue of height for male and female, if he is shorter, it is another thing, and the applicant must be a Nigerian, with National Identity Number, the applicant must have 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings, including English and Mathematics, and the applicant must be medically, physically and psychologically fit.
“The applicant must print their completed form and submit it at the CBT centre and the female applicant must not be pregnant at the time of this application, you also know that the test is computer-based.
“Adequate arrangements have been put in place in all the centres to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
“After the CBT, those who passed will go for medical examination, then the final list.
“The process is for the recruitment of 10,000 candidates but as we speak people who have successfully downloaded the application are 65,000 in number,” he further disclosed.
The CBT is expected to take place simultaneously across the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT this weekend.

The Bauchi State command of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Department of State Services (DSS) have resolved to collaborate towards effective intelligence gathering and sharing in the State.
This was disclosed to newsmen by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), SC Adam Abubakar Jibril, at the end of a courtesy visit paid by the newly posted DSS State Director, Sani Adamu Muhammad, to the Controller of Corrections in the State, CCS Kabir A. Galadanci.
Jibril disclosed that Muhammad was exploiting ways through which both state commands of NCoS and DSS would collaborate in the fight against crime and criminality in Bauchi State.
The PRO said Muhammad used the visit to commiserate with the NCoS over the recent jailbreak at Oyo Custodial Centre in Oyo, Oyo State.

According to him, the State Director assured that the DSS would continue to render its support to the NCoS in order to prevent similar occurrence in any of the custodial centres in Bauchi State.
While responding, Galadanci commended the DSS boss for the visit, emphasising that the custodial centres remained the untapped sources of credible information and intelligence gathering.
The Controller declared that if well harnessed, the centres would assist the DSS and other relevant security agencies in the country in the area of intelligence gathering and sharing.
“The Controller emphasised that correctional officers by their training, force of personality and leadership can gather a lot of intelligence from the custodial centres using the dynamic security approach.
“CCS Kabir Galadanci promised to give the DSS all the necessary support in their collective quest to enhance the security situation in Bauchi State,” he disclosed.

Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma has warned that marriage should only be discussed on social media when domestic violence is involved.
Danjuma made this known on her Instagram page, warning couples to stop taking their marital woes to social media.
Caroline further stated that marriage is a sacred institution and should be respected.
“We all make mistakes and learn. The only time to speak out in public is if domestic violence or extreme emotional abuse is involved and you need help. Respect this sacred institution, you are not fighting one each other but the devil,” she said.

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Nigeria Basketball Federation Caretaker Committee headed by Musa Kida, ahead of the federation’s elections.

The statement, signed by the Secretary-General of NBBF, Afolabi-Oluwayemi Olabisi, said: “As you may recall that the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, on May 4, 2021, inaugurated the Caretaker Committees for 31 National Sports Federations, including Basketball, to run the affairs of the respective Federations ahead of elections of their new Boards.
“As the Nigeria Basketball Federation prepares for its Elective Congress, I am directed to inform you that the Federation’s Caretaker Committee has been dissolved with immediate effect.

“The Federation appreciates your contribution to the development of Basketball in Nigeria.” the letter added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the dissolution of the committee comes barely 24 hours after a press release signed by its Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar, had directed the indefinite suspension of the NBBF Elective Congress earlier scheduled for Saturday, in Benin.
However, Kida reacted by urging stakeholders to ignore what he referred to as “an unsigned press statement credited to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development indefinitely postponing the NBBF elections.”
In a statement he signed, Kida said the purported postponement was illegal and a direct usurpation of the powers of the NBBF Congress as enshrined in the 2019 NBBF statutes.
The statement described the move as ”repugnant to natural justice, equity, good conscience and an arbitrary use of power”.
It also noted that the ministry and the Nigeria Olympics Committee, had on numerous occasions, confirmed the existence of a valid constitution sanctioned by the Federation of International Basketball Associations in conducting its affairs as dictated by the NBBF constitution.
Kida stressed that the NBBF Elective Congress would go on as scheduled on Saturday in Benin.

A 37-year-old notorious internet fraudster, Charles Gabriel Purple, (aka Pastor), who specialises in withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts after stealing their phones, has been arrested in Ilorin by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The suspect, who claimed to be a resident of No. 16, Opaleye Street, Mile 2, Lagos State, was picked up by the crack team of detectives of the NSCDC at his hideout located on Offa road in Ilorin, alongside two other suspects.
Spokesman of the Defence Corps, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said in Ilorin on Tuesday that the intelligence and investigations department of the corps received a missing phone complaint from one Buraimoh Sunmonu Adebayo, (57) who lives at No. 207, Lagos Road, Sawmill area of Ilorin, who claimed that he lost his phone when he boarded a tricycle from Ilorin Grammar School, to Taiwo Road in Ilorin metropolis.
“The complainant realised that after a few hours of losing his phone, a sum of N500,000 had allegedly been withdrawn from his personal and company’s accounts where he is one of the signatories.

“Our detectives and tactical team later swung into action and tracked down the suspect at his hideout at Offa road, Ilorin on Monday where he was rounded up along with two of his accomplices,” the spokesman stated.
He said the suspect, in his confessional statement, admitted to be a notorious internet fraudster and also confessed to have stolen Buraimoh Sunmonu Adebayo’s phone.
The suspect further “confessed that he had so far withdrawn the sum of N400,000 from two bank accounts of the complainant and not N500,000 as claimed by the complainant.”
Two other accomplices picked up at the hideout were Alfred Adegoke (34) and Yusuf Saman (30).
Items recovered from them at the hideout included 13 mobile phones and some substances suspected to be hard drugs.
The Commandant of the command, Iskil Ayinla Makinde has ordered full scale investigations into the matter and the suspects will be charged to court after completion of investigations.

No fewer than six persons were confirmed killed and houses razed in a sustained and coordinated attack by gunmen, in the early hours of Monday, in Bagana village, Omala Local Government Areaof Kogi State.
Recall that a similar attack occurred barely a month ago leading to the death of about nine persons and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
The attack it was gathered forced hundreds of inhabitants to seek refuge in neighbouring communities.
In the latest incident, it was gathered that the attackers went straight to the House of one Chief Salifu Anyebe and set it ablaze.

The attackers also shot three persons, including one Madam Achebe Alih, popularly known as Mama Teacher to death.
It was further gathered that Chief Salifu Anyebe is one of traditional rulers, whose stool was upgraded to third class a forth night ago by the present administration.
The early morning raid made the villagers, who were just returning to the village after a similar attack, to scamper for safety in the bushes.
It was gathered that, the attackers, linked to a clan opposed to his ascendancy, had planned to attack him during the proposed ceremony for the new title.
However, our correspondent reliably gathered that the information of the attack leaked to him, forcing the abrupt suspension of the ceremony, but the attackers burnt down his palace, his car and other valuables belonging to the chief and close families that lived in a cluster with him.
Our correspondent equally gathered that immediately the attackers left, some militias from nearby communities were allegedly mobilized, armed with sophisticated weapons and they started razing down houses belonging to the suspected oppositing clans.
Thwe reprisal led to the burning down of the palace of the Oga Onu Ife, a paramount ruler and the District Head of Bagana, Chief Alih Haruna. Other houses belonging to some notable inhabitants were also torched.
According to the locals, a house belonging to the Councillor representing the District, Hon. Alidu Usman Idakwo and those of other tribes were not spared.
A local, who could not hold back tears over the wanton destruction of lives and property, lamented the nonchalant attitude of the government.
He added that since 2013, no fewer than 300 persons have lost their lives and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
While speaking with our Correspondent, the Special Adviser on Security to the Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Steve Shaibu confirmed the death of six persons, while one person was critically injured and has been evacuated to undisclosed health facility in a nearby village.
The Special Adviser gave the names of the deceased as Suleiman Baba, Yusuf Lere, Mrs Achebe Alih, others are Abubakar Salifu, Danlami Yahaya and Ugbede Attah on admission.
However, the leader of Indigenous People of Bagana, Alhaji Umar Bagana lamented the recurring orgy of killings and destruction of properties, since 2014, and blamed the violence on the clanish jingoists contending for the soul of the town.
He called on Governor Yahaya Bello to enforce his directives on the Chiefs to relocate to their respective domain as a measure to tame the tide of violence being unleashed on the community.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Idrisu Dauda Dabban in company of the Chairman of Omala Local Government Hon. Ibrahim Aboh had on Tuesday visited the area.
The Police Commissioner urged the the people to return home, assuring that they had commenced discreet investigation to bring the perpetrators to book.

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, alongside the five other governors of the South West, converged in Lagos State on Tuesday to discuss issues that affect the region.
Olaniyan, who represented Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor, was joined by Governors Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Kayode Fayemi ((Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun and the host, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).
This was disclosed in a statement by Seye Ajagbe, the media officer to the Deputy Governor and forwarded to newsmen on Wednesday morning.
While speaking to the press after the event, the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, declared that the meeting was to discuss the way forward for the South West and discuss matters that affect the region.

The Ondo State Governor said they discussed matters pertaining to the common heritage of the West, the Oodua group of companies and issues bothering on the security of the western states.
The chairman stated that the content and agreement of the deliberations, which was held behind closed doors for about 2 hours and a half, will not be made public.
After the meeting, the Forum visited the National Leader of the APC and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at his private residence in Bourdillion street, Ikoyi.
Akeredolu said, “we deemed it fit to visit our leader who has returned home successfully and who is hale and hearty and to the glory of God Almighty, that is why we have visited him.”
He said the whole South West believes in the leadership of Tinubu, “and he has shown that he is doing his best to lead us, as he is not only a leader of the South West but a leader of the entire nation and the southwest lays first claim to him.”

The pan Yoruba sociocultural group, Afenifere has told President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits as terrorists, asking him to ignore the call for mercy by the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi.
It was gathered that Gumi had recently warned President Buhari against declaring bandits as terrorists, maintaining that such declaration would come with a big price.
To Gumi, bandits killing and kidnapping innocent souls in the north and other parts of the country should be given amnesty, claiming that they are fighting for their rights.
But, Afenifere disagreed with Gumi, calling on Buhari and the Federal Government to ignore his advice in its entirety.

The group insisted that bandits should not only be declared as terrorists, but also be given the treatment of terrorists.
Afenifere spoke through a communiqué signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, at the end of its October meeting, held at the residence of its Acting Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo in Sanya-Ogbo, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The Yoruba leaders lamented that insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities had continued to fester in spite of claims by government that it was winning the war against insecurity.
While expressing dissatisfaction with the way the government at the centre had been tackling insecurity, Afenifere said it joined the National Assembly and several others on the call that “those who have been kidnapping, and killing the people be declared as terrorists and be treated as such.”
The group described as unfortunate, the attitude of the authorities on the issue of security, regretting that government “has not succeeded in stemming the increasing spate of insecurity in the country.”
On the contrary, Afenifere said bandits and terrorists were “getting emboldened to perpetrate their nefarious activities.”
While stating that it was ironical that some individuals were seeking clemency for terrorists, the group emphasised that “whoever deodorizes or abets evil is culpable.”

Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN), has said that former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is capable of leading Nigeria.

Akeredolu added that Tinubu is doing his best as leader of the South-West.
Akeredolu spoke on behalf of his colleagues during a visit to Tinubu’s residence at Bordillion in Ikoyi, Lagos State, on Tuesday.
He said the governors in the region believe in the leadership of the former Lagos State governor.
Akeredolu, who led his colleagues to the meeting, noted that Tinubu is not just the leader of the South-West but also the only national leader of the APC in the country.
However, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, who was also in Lagos and attended earlier events, was conspicuously absent from the Bourdillon’s visit.
Akeredolu explained that they decided to pay the APC National Leader a visit after the South-West Governors’ Forum meeting, which took place earlier in Lagos.
Speaking with newsmen after the visit, he said: “We held the Southwest Governors’ Forum meeting.
“After the meeting, we deemed it fit to come over and visit our leader who has returned home successfully and who is hale and hearty.
“We have come to show our love for him and thank God on his behalf.
“He has been receiving visitors here. This place has turned into Mecca. We are here as part of the pilgrims.
 
“The National Leader of APC remains one. Most of us in the Southwest believe in his leadership and it shows that he’s doing his best to lead us.

Governor Nasiru El-Rufai has directed security agencies to investigate the lynching of three suspected bandits’ informants in Zangon Aya village, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, made the disclosure in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He said that the directive followed report by security agencies that a man, his wife and son were lynched through mob action in the community on Monday.
“The mob action was in response to the suspects’ alleged collaboration with bandits, especially in relation to recent kidnappings in the area.
“After the killings, the mob also looted and burnt their home,” Aruwan stated.
The commissioner said that the governor was sad and deeply worried over the violent action and strongly condemned the extra-judicial killings.
He stressed that legitimate proceedures should always be adopted in confronting suspicions of criminality, as the destructive practice of self-help would only result in greater harm.
The governor urged citizens to maintain law and order and always report suspects to constituted authorities.

Ex-Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, said on Tuesday that petrol imports figures were inflated when global oil prices went up during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and the regime of the current President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

Sanusi, who spoke on Tuesday at a panel session during the 27th National Economic Summit in Abuja, said the subsidy on petrol was responsible for the inflated figures.
 
Until May 2016, when the Federal Government announced a new petrol price band of N135 to N145 per litre of petrol, private marketers imported petrol into the country and were paid subsidy claims by the government in order to keep the pump price lower than the expected open market price of the product.
 
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, which has been the sole importer of petrol into the country in recent years, has been bearing the subsidy cost. It does the importation through the Direct Purchase Direct Sale arrangement.
 
Under the DSDP scheme, selected overseas refiners, trading companies and indigenous companies are allocated crude supplies in exchange for the delivery of an equal value of petrol and other refined products to the NNPC.
 
Sanusi said, “I have said this over and over again, and when I say this, I want it to be clear that I said this when I was governor of the central bank under the previous government. What I say is not about a particular government.
 
“In 2015 or 2016, Minister Kachikwu came out and said Nigeria was importing 30 million litres of fuel a day after eliminating corruption and having transparency. In 2019, the NNPC came out and said we were importing 59 million litres per day after oil prices have gone up. And I have been asking the question: what happened between 2015 and 2019 that our consumption doubled?
“This was the same thing that happened under the previous government; in Nigeria, when the oil price goes up – unlike all other products when it gets more expensive, you have a reduction in demand – the NNPC says we are importing more. Why because as the price of oil goes up, the arbitrage between the subsidised price and the market price is so high; there is an incentive to inflate those numbers.”
The NNPC, in the latest monthly report on its website, said a total of 1.67 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), translating to 55.79 million litres per day were supplied in April.
 
Sanusi said, “I have produced evidence before the National Assembly historically of cases where the NNPC would say we have imported fuel, use the name of a vessel – people say they imported fuel; you go and check and the vessel was nowhere near Nigeria on the day they said it was in Lagos, and people have collected subsidy on those things.
 
“For me, all the drawbacks of this regime, what it is costing Nigeria is not just the cost of subsidy; it is the cost of the corruption. What we need to do is to scrap it.”
 
The ex-CBN boss added, “This money coming from petroleum belongs to the federation account; the Federal Government does not have the constitutional right to pay subsidy on behalf of the federation.
 
“So, that is a fundamental constitutional issue because this is money that should go to the federal, state and local governments. Yet money that belongs to the federation is carried out as a central government expenditure. So, you can see so many complex issues – there are legal and economic issues. What we need to do is stop this thing.”
