Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams has revealed how the South West can separate from Nigeria without bloodshed.
The Yoruba leader said that it was possible for Oduduwa Republic to be actualized without war.
Adams said for Nigeria to remain as a unit, President Muhammadu Buhari must not ignore renewed calls for restructuring.
He noted that the call for Oduduwa Republic became necessary as the Nigerian state was failing.

“Our people in diaspora see a lot of things that we that are in the country don’t see, and these are people that are highly exposed and know whatever is happening in the global community, and this is why they are asking for a separate nation, and I also agree with them,” he was quoted by the Sun at the weekend.
“We can have our Oduduwa Republic in a peaceful way through a referendum. Nigerians from the different zones will cast their votes and decide whether they want Nigeria to remain as one or not .I agree with the Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum who said recently that we could break up Nigeria without war,” he added.
He lamented that the country cannot move forward with the way it was going, noting that injustice, nepotism and corruption were on the increase.
He alleged that 85% was given to the North at the recent recruitment in DSS while less than 15 per cent was allocated to the South.

Popular Human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, on Saturday, said the anti-Special Robbery Squad, SARS, protest won’t stop.
Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, said the protest won’t stop because the government is not listening to the outcry against SARS.
Featuring on Channels Television’s programme, Sunrise Daily, Awosanya explained that the anti-SARS protest was a call to end impunity.
According to Awosanya: “The protests will continue to go on because the authorities are not listening to the people, if they listen enough all the things we are seeing today we told them before now but they are not listening.

“We told the authorities that it will get to this point if they continue to be insensitive to the cry of the people and what are they asking for? they are saying shut down impunity.
“ENDSARS simply means end impunity, the culture of impunity where people get away with crime.
“If an armed robber commits crime with a gun, we know what the penalties are but what about a police officer who is maintained by taxpayers money and use the state’s gun to rob innocent citizens and he gets to be transferred and we keep seeing him.
“If you call a unit within the police system, special tactical squad, special anti-robbery squad or special anti-robbery squad and they are no longer special, they are all over the place collecting bribes, seizing people, indiscriminately killing people, how do you want people to feel towards that?”

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Saturday, alleged that the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, will do all they can to ensure victory in the Ondo State governorship election.
Fani-Kayode pointed out that the governorship election in Ondo State would be tough.
He, however, noted that despite efforts by the federal government, Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would win.
Justifying why Jegede must win, the former minister said Ondo State needs a dynamic and strong leader.

Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, in the Ondo State governorship election, Hon Agboola Ajayi has denied that he had withdrawn from today’s exercise.
His Media Adviser, Allen Sowore in a statement said that the letter of his resignation was forged.
The statement said “Again, the attention of the Deputy Governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi has been drawn to a forged resignation letter from the Governorship Election holding today, Saturday- 10 October, 2020.

As electorates in Ondo State decide today on who will pilot the affairs of the State for the next four years, the restriction order is being flouted.
In Akure, the Ondo State capital, aside the vehicles deployed for election duty, taxis, private vehicles as well as commercial motorcycles, popularly known as ‘Okada’ were seen moving about.
Recall that the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu had ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 12 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
It was gathered that from Oba-Ile axis of Akure North Local Government to the popular Oba-Adesida part of Akure South Local Government the order is not being obeyed.

Ahmed Musa has now surpassed John Obi Mikel as the third most capped Nigerian player, having featured in the international friendly against Algeria on Friday.
The 27-year-old came off the bench to replace Samuel Chukwueze in the 75th minute of the game.
However, Musa was unable to prevent the Super Eagles from losing 1-0 to the reigning African champions.
But he got his 92nd cap for the country.
Musa went into the game on 91 caps, level with the former captain, Mikel Obi, who quit international football after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations
The Al-Nassr forward is now only behind Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama for number of appearances.
Musa made his senior debut on August 5, 2010 in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualification against Madagascar.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to arrest those disturbing the peace of the society in the name of End SARS protest.
The End SARS protest, which started in Lagos a few days ago, has spread to other parts of Nigeria.
A policeman was said to have been killed by protesters in Delta State on Thursday while a police station was vandalised in Ogun State on Friday.
Reacting, NANS cautioned the protesters not to throw the country into unnecessary crisis, saying protests currently going on in some parts of the country may develop into a full-blown chaos if care was not taken.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday.
According to Adeyemi, the protests had already been hijacked by hoodlums who may take advantage to wreak havoc on other law-abiding citizens of the country.
While conceding that the activities of the police force, not only that of SARS, should be reformed for optimal performance, Adeyemi warned that “we must be careful not to set the country on fire”.
“We are aware that some internet fraudsters, in a bid to continue perpetrating their criminal acts, are mobilising hoodlums to protest against the activities of SARS,” he stated.
Speaking further, the students body recalled that the IGP had ordered that SARS and other tactical units should no longer conduct checks neither should they mount road blocks.
Adeyemi, however, expressed worries that the people behind these protests are not satisfied with this.
“The police should not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anybody caught disturbing the peace of the public and causing violence all in the name of protest,” he stressed.

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, has vowed that they will protect university autonomy with the last drop of their blood.
Ogunyemi made this claer in a press statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The statement was titled “On President Buhari’s No IPPIS, No Salary” and Ogunyemi explained that the directive was meant for civil servants and not university lecturers.
The ASUU president revealed that on January 9, 2020, they reached an understanding with President Muhammadu Buhari, to develop the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), which will be sensitive to the operations of the university system, accommodate perculiarities and respect autonomy.

Ogunyemi also claimed ASUU has spent millions of naira to develop the UTAS, which has been presented to the Federal Ministry of Education.
“We are aware of the antics of bureaucrats, especially in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, aimed at bringing universities under their control. ASUU will not fold its arms and watch the gains we made on the autonomy of Nigerian universities slip by.
“It took us several years of continuous struggle during the military to get here. So, let nobody hide under the name of President Muhammadu Buhari to attack the autonomy of public universities because Nigerian scholars are prepared to resist it to the last drop of their blood,” the statement read in part.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted Nigerians on fraudulent loan offers and investment schemes.
It cited information and videos circulating on social media.
The messages had asked loan seekers and small-scale businesses owners to apply for funds.
But in a statement, CBN said while it has several development finance intervention programmes for different categories of businesses, it does not directly interact with prospective applicants.

The apex bank explained that its interventions are only disbursed through participating financial institutions (PFIs) such as deposit money banks (DMBs), development finance institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks (MFBs).
“The videos and messages are fraudulent and anyone who enters into correspondence with those behind them does so at his or her own risk. The CBN has neither appointed nor accredited any organization to serve as agent on its behalf for the purpose of investment or applying for an intervention loans,” it said.
The statement advised prospective loan seekers to visit their respective banks, NIRSAL Micro-Finance Bank or the nearest CBN branch.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday ruled out the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede as the Returning Officer for the Ondo State governorship election.
The commission said while it would not be drawn into speculations relating to the performance of its constitutional and statutory functions, the RO for Saturday Ondo State governorship election “is not from Ondo State and not from OAU Ile-Ife.”
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, made the clarification in a statement in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the RO would report to the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State on the date conveyed in his letter of appointment issued several days ago.

He was reacting to a statement by the Chairman, National Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, rejecting the choice of the OAU VC as Chief Returning Officer for the election.
Makinde had said, “We are speaking in particular about the appointment of Prof. Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Ile-Ife, as the Chief Returning Officer of the Ondo State governorship election.
“The PDP totally rejects Prof. Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede acting as Chief Returning Officer. He is a known crony of Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, candidate of the All Progressives Congress and hails from Owo, the same hometown as the candidate. He cannot be a fair party in the proceedings by virtue of their association.”
But Okoye explained that the RO for the governorship election is not from the state and not from OAU Ile-Ife.
He said, “While the commission will not be drawn into speculations relating to the performance of its constitutional and statutory functions, it is imperative to set the records straight for the benefit of the people of Ondo State and the integrity of the electoral process.
“It is the sole responsibility of the commission to appoint a Returning Officer for the Ondo governorship election and does not share this responsibility with any individual, group or political party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Returning Officer for the Ondo Governorship election is not from Ondo State and not from the University mentioned in the said press conference.
“The Returning Officer appointed by the commission will report to the REC for Ondo State on the date conveyed in his letter of appointment issued several days ago.
“The commission is firmly focused on the conduct of free, fair and peaceful election and implores all the stakeholders to cooperate and play their own part in ensuring peaceful election and not to engage in unhelpful speculation.
“The main concern of the commission is in ensuring a credible electoral process while the outcome is in the hands of the people of Ondo State.”

Ahead of today’s budget presentation by President Muhammadu Buhari, presidential security operatives have taken over security apparatus of the National Assembly (NASS) complex.
In a bid to ensure there are no security hitches during the presentation, presidential security operatives on Thursday took over NASS security apparatuses.
It was gathered that the four major entry points into the complex was taken over by mobile police men and DSS operatives from the Presidential Villa.
Buhari is expected to arrive the venue by 11 am today to present the 2021 budget of N13.3 trillion as against that of 2020 that was N10.3 trillion.

Last year’s budget presentation was hitch free unlike that of 2018 that the opposition ensured the president had problems presenting his budget speech.
On Monday and Tuesday, the executive and the legislature had a retreat in preparation for the budget presentation today.

The Federal Government on Thursday urged members of the World Trade Organisation to certify the candidacy of former Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for the job of director-general.
The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum, made this call in a statement on Thursday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Katagum, who is also the Chairperson of the Okonjo-Iweala Campaign Team, described her as “the best choice for the job”.
The minister said, “These are excellent testimonies of her eminent qualification for the top job. The WTO as of today needs a DG with multiple skills to revive the challenged spirit of trade liberalisation worldwide.

“The WTO faces a lot of problems currently, and confronting these challenges necessarily requires building trust among the membership especially as the problems are not solely of a technical nature.
“Only a DG with the requisite political and negotiating skills coupled with multilateral experience can ensure deep engagement of the Members in order to restore trust and build a truly efficient organisation.
“Dr Iweala’s qualities and experience in managing multilateral issues, in trade facilitation and negotiation as well as brokering deals and agreements with high political stakes, put her in good standing.”
It was earlier reported that WTO members selected two final candidates, Okonjo-Iweala and South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee, to advance to the final round in the race to lead the Geneva-based trade body.
By advancing two women to the final round of the selection process, the WTO is set to have the first female director-general in its 25-year history.
Okonjo-Iweala served two stints as Nigeria’s finance minister and one term as foreign affairs minister.
She has experience working at international governance bodies as a former managing director of the World Bank, and as a chairman at the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.
Myung-hee is South Korea’s trade minister. During her 25-year career in government, she helped to expand her country’s trade network through bilateral accords with the United States, China and the United Kingdom.
The third and final phase of the consultation process will begin later this month and run until November 6, after which the WTO will name a consensus winner of the race.

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has suggested that one of the ways to defeat Boko Haram terrorists in the state is preventing the insurgents from launching the first attack.
A statement quoted the governor as giving the suggestion at the combined 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters Chief of Army Staff Conference held in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The statement, titled ‘Buratai: Borno Governor has always identified with Army’, said Zulum was the special guest of honour at the conference organised for senior officers of the Nigerian Army.
The governor urged the Nigerian Army to take the war to the insurgents, explaining that “continuous repelling” was not bringing the desired results.

“I urge the Nigerian Army to take the war to all hideouts of Boko Haram. The army should not wait and give the insurgents the opportunity of the first attack. You should as a matter of policy embark upon clinical clearance operation after successful execution of attacks,” Zulum added.
The governor also commended the effort of the Nigerian Military in the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
“Let me commend the renewed effort and vigour of the Nigerian Army in the fight against insurgency and urge you to sustain the momentum,” he noted.
Zulum assured the military of his continued commitment in the fight against insurgency, saying, “In line with my 10 cardinal agenda for good governance, Borno State Government shall maintain and sustain its role as key stakeholders in the activities and operations of Nigerian Army through the provision of all the needed support and morale-boosting mechanism to all security operatives involved in the fight against insurgency to end Boko Haram crisis.”
Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, commended the governor for “always identifying” with the Nigerian Army in the fight against insurgency in the North-East.
“I thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for honouring our invitation and for always identifying with us on the collective effort to defeat terrorism and criminalities in the North-East,” Buratai said.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered Assistant Inspectors-General in charge of zonal commands and state Commissioners of Police to arrest, detain and dismiss from service any cop, who violates the rights of the citizens.
He said the errant operatives should also be charged after being indicted in an orderly room trial.
The IG also directed the officers to compile recent cases of abuse of power and violation of rights of the citizens by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Special Tactical Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Anti-Cultism Squad and other teams, and forward same to his office not later than Friday.
The returns are to include the dates and venues of the incident, the special teams involved, details of the incidents and personnel involved, and the actions initiated by the head of the concerned commands as well as the status of the matter.

Adamu gave the directive in a letter dated October 5, 2020,  titled, ‘Order and directives: Restrictions on the operations of F-SARS, SARS, IRT, STS, state anti-kidnapping units and other special units under any nomenclature that operates in mufti across all formation, zones and state commands’.
The order with reference cb:4001/IGP.SEC/ABJ/V.115/911, stated, “Any police personnel that, henceforth, abuses his or her powers in a manner that degrades, endangers or threatens the lives and other fundamental rights of the citizens shall be promptly arrested, processed through our internal disciplinary machinery, and if found culpable, shall be dismissed from service.
“In addition, such personnel could be charged in consonance with their level of criminal liability in the instance.”
The letter further directed the CP X-Squad, Force Provost Marshall and IGP Monitoring Unit to immediately coordinate and deploy joint teams to enforce the order across all the 36 state commands and the Federal Capital Territory.
“Any personnel of the special units found violating the order must be arrested and escorted to the Force headquarters for appropriate actions. Weekly update on this operation must be forwarded to the office of the Inspector-General of Police for review and appropriate directives,” it added.
The police boss noted that the unprofessional activities of some special operatives had continued to drag the Force into acts that “pit us against the citizens that we were engaged, paid and statutorily obligated to serve and protect.”
Adamu said some cops had been violating citizens’ rights in utter disregard for consistent warnings, previous orders, their professional training, international protocols, constitutional dictates, force policies, and ethical standards.
He added that no component of laws or international protocols authorised the unlawful killing or degrading treatment of fellow citizens, stressing that no element of professional training or ethical standards permitted any police personnel to deploy lethal weapons either consciously or otherwise, except as provided for in the statutes and in Force Order 237.
“Unfortunately, all the recent incidents of abuse of police powers violated these provisions,” the IG lamented.
The letter reinforced the extant Force Accountability Policy, which holds officer professionally and criminally liable for the consequences of their actions.
It noted that the operational deployment of the special squads was to be limited to specific security breaches, including armed robbery, kidnapping or other violent incidents, and in such instance, they must be expressly authorised by the appropriate police authority. 
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Alliance for the Survival of COVID-19 and Beyond, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, has said the Federal Government and the IG are not sincere with his latest ban of the SARS.
A statement titled: ‘FG not sincere on SARS reform’, by ASCAB and signed by Falana on Tuesday, said it was not the first time the police high command would issue such orders banning the squad.
He said each time they were banned, the repressive operatives always return to the streets to torment the people.
He lamented that the gross violation of human rights was linked to SARS and that a change of structure without fundamental change of the operatives of the structure would soon make the problem to reoccur.
Falana stated, “The police high command has banned SARS several times. It has become a ritual.
“SARS continues to operative under different names or structures. What we see is like removing sour wine and putting it in the same old, rusty bottles.
“Nothing remarkable has changed in the police command structure that aids all forms of repression and extra-judicial killings.”
He recalled that there was public outcry in 2018 against indiscriminate arrest and detention, extortion and extrajudicial killings as well as other horrendous human rights abuse perpetrated by the SARS operatives.
He said the Federal Government responded by setting up a presidential panel of enquiry to investigate all complaints of human rights abuse.
The lawyer noted that many Nigerians submitted reports and memoranda and gave clear evidence of police abuse, but the recommendations had yet to be implemented.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) and its candidate, Iboi Lucky Emmanuel has asked the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, the State capital, to sack Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a suit marked EPT/ED/GOV/01/2020, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Andrew Osagie Ize-Iyamu are listed as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Respondents, respectively.
ADP in the petition, demanded the tribunal to declare that by virtue of his non-qualification, the votes credited to the PDP candidate should be null and void and of no value and that the election should be nullified.
The party and its candidate are basing their petition on several grounds, such as allegation that the PDP candidate presented forged documents to contest the elections.

ADP is challenged the eligibility of Obaseki, who won the election with over 80, 000 votes to contest the poll in the first instance.
They claimed that in an affidavit deposed to and presented to INEC in his Form CF001 in 2016, the incumbent Governor submitted a certificate purported to have been signed by the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the University and that in the Form EC9 submitted to the electoral umpire in 2020, the Governor attached an undated certificate with only one signatory purporting to be the signature of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
As part of the irregularities in the said UI certificate, the petitioners also alleged that the signature of the Vice Chancellor who signed the Degree Certificate being presented by Governor Godwin Obaseki, died in 2015 after retirement for a long time and couldn’t have signed a re-issued certificate in 2020.
“The petitioners will rely on oral and documentary evidence to show that Professor Tekena Tamuno who was Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan from December 1975 to November 1979 had not only died in 2015, but could not also have signed a document purporting to be a document of the University of Ibadan after his retirement and death”, they averred.
In their prayers, the petitioners prayed for “declaration that the 3rd Respondent (Obaseki) presented a forged and /or a false certificate to INEC in violation of section 182(1) [I] of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended)”.
ADP and its candidate asked the Tribunal to declared that Obaseki was at the time the election not qualified to contest the election for having submitted an slleged false/forged document or certificate to the 3rd respondent, (INEC) along with his Form EC9″.
They further asked the court to disqualified the 3rd respondent as contestant in the governorship election.

<div>Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lami Ahmed, has said the state recorded over 350 cases of rape and s3xual assault between May and October 2020.</div>
The commissioner made this known on Monday in Yola at the launch of SMARTRR, a technological-driven solution that allows users of mobile phones to report and refer cases of rape and other gender-based violence in their community.
Ahmed also explained that the culture of silence over rape cases and other s3xual violence was responsible for the recent surge in the number of rape cases in the state.
She disclosed that already, about 150 cases of rape in the state had been reported, using the SMARTRR and added that follow-ups had been made by concerned service providers.

She expressed delight that a youth in the state, Samuel Dirug, came up with the innovation, which allowed for the confidential reporting and referral of nearly half of the over 350 recorded cases of rape between May and October in the state.
She said, “With over 350 cases, one is only left to wonder what measures are to be taken to address this issue before it makes an animal kingdom out of our society; that is if it has not created one already.”
Earlier, Dirug noted that 180 active cases of sexual abuse had been reported using the app, with 27 out of the cases successfully closed with the assistance of partners in Adamawa since May.

Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has finally decided to stay at Stamford Bridge to fight his place at the Blues.
Kepa expressed confidence that he would still turn the situation around despite Chelsea signing Edouard Mendy this summer from Rennes.
The 26-year-old, who cost Chelsea £72m when he joined the West London club from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, has been relegated to the substitutes’ bench following a series of high-profile errors.
He also lost his place to Willy Caballero towards the end of last season.

The Spaniard now faces competitions from Mendy and Cabellero under Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard’s squad.
Asked about his future at Chelsea while on international duty with Spain ahead of their friendly clash with Portugal on Wednesday night, Kepa said as quoted by Metro UK: “I feel good, strong and confident.
“Maybe it’s not the dream situation, but sometimes these things happen. I am confident I will turn my form around.
“I don’t have the feeling of being a substitute. We have three goalkeepers [at Chelsea], and the level is very high.
“He (Lampard) is the coach who chooses the eleven, and we have to try to do our best, and if we do not play, we must try as much as possible.”
He added: “In the life of the footballer there are ups and downs. My situation is not the same as last year. I only have to work and show my qualities.
“If I have the opportunity to play, I will try to take advantage of it.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has “recovered over N11bn monetary assets in 2020”, despite the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Umar Abba, who disclosed this, also said the Commission recorded over 646 convictions within this year, NAN reports.
Abba disclosed this to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said Nigerians ranked the anti-graft agency higher than other law enforcement outfits in the country.

A statement by EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwajaren said the anti-graft Czar also expressed displeasure over the deteriorating state of some seized vehicles.
He, however, stressed that the Commission in conjunction with the Attorney General of the Federation is working towards resolving the problem.

Lagos State has recorded rising COVID-19 cases, as the national infection rate continues to nose-dive in the country. 
 
Lagos had recorded zero Coronavirus infection on Monday, the first time in over six months.

But on Tuesday, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, announced 118 new cases in Nigeria, with Lagos posting 41 fresh infections. 
 
On Monday, Nigeria recorded 120 COVID-19 cases, two fewer than what was recorded on Tuesday. 
 
National Coronavirus infection has been put at 59,583, with 51,308 survivors discharged and 1,113 deaths recorded. 
 
No death was recorded on Tuesday, but four States recorded dozens of infections. 
 
They are: Lagos (41 cases), Rivers (19 cases), Osun (17 cases) and Nasarawa (13 cases).

The Northern Elders Forum has advised Nigerians not to be tired of demanding the restructuring of the country from the present government.
The Forum said the Nigerian state has failed, especially in the management of security, hence the need to revisit the way the country is structured to provide security for citizens.
It was earlier reported that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had on Saturday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure the country “as soon as possible”.
Adeboye, who spoke at a symposium alongside the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; former Governor of Cross River State and former presidential aspirant, Donald Duke; and a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, warned that it was either the country restructured as soon as possible or it broke up. “You don’t have to be a prophet to know that one,” he added.

The Presidency, in a reaction on Sunday night, had said described the calls as “recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country”.
But speaking on Tuesday morning while featuring on Channels Television‘s programme, Sunrise Daily, NEF spokesperson, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, insisted that the country must be restructured to address fundamental issues that ought to have been addressed since Nigeria gained independence.
He noted, “The two basic functions of the state is to secure citizens and provide for their welfare. Now, the Nigerian state is failing on both camps. So, restructuring for us means addressing those failures and identifying ideas, suggestions and changes that can actually fit into the process of improving them.
“Policing is a fundamental issue. Here in the north where I come from, you could spend three days with bandits ravaging communities and you will not see a single policeman. Something is wrong with the way the country is structured to provide security for citizens. So, we need to revisit some of these issues.”
The NEF spokesperson stressed that the Nigerian constitution must be revised to “deal with issues that divide Nigerians rather than unite them.”
He said, “We need to look at our constitution, look at the way it provides for the Nigerian state, the federating units, allocate responsibilities in power, the works of vital institutions, or the failure of vital institutions to work and how we can improve them.
“When we make demand for the restructuring of the country, we are not necessarily saying that the government is deliberately causing the problems – they are cumulative issues, matters that should have been addressed a long time ago but they were not addressed. Nations must accept to revisit how they live.
“Nigerians have a right to ask for changes, for amendment, for improvement in the manner in which we live. There is nothing wrong in that. What is wrong is for the government to specifically say we don’t want to hear anything about restructuring.
“Right now, no one will dispute that the federal government carries too many responsibilities most of which it doesn’t discharge, has too many resources and is not well run. It has become a focus of intense competition. The type of competition that makes the political system unstable. Everybody wants the Presidency. Everybody wants to go to Abuja. Abuja is everything. This is wrong.” 
Baba-Ahmed noted that “many conferences whose recommendations have not been implemented need to be implemented.”
“We believe that Nigerians should never (be) tired about demanding that their country must be made to work. If the government is not going to do it on its own, it needs assistance. If it needs some pressure, we believe we can provide that pressure,” he concluded.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for the immediate disbandment of the Kano State Hisbah Police while accusing the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje of ”talibanizing” the State.
HURIWA noted that the police system offends the Constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria and called for an end to its operation.
The rights group accused Governor Ganduje of carrying out the blueprints of the Organization Of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
HURIWA noted that contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, in most states of Northern Nigeria, there exists one form of religious security apparatus or the other under different names with uniformity of functions and operations of Hisbah.

It noted that Hisbah Police in Kano State, backed by the State Hisbah Corps Law of 2003, “which functions principally to enforce Islamic sharia by ‘enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong on every Muslim’, is reasoned as not an establishment of an Act of the National Assembly as provided for by our constitution.”
HURIWA lamented that the Hisbah Police which is not empowered to effect arrest, is now often effecting arrest, which they sometimes do in the crudest fashion including disruption of social and economic activities.
“More worrisome is they often invade people’s privacies or premises without warrant or legal authority. They also carry out raids of vessels or vehicles or premises believed to be harbours of or used in delivery of alcohol, seize and destroy the products.”
HURIWA further claimed that despite the argument that the Hisbah Police do not bear arms, they have in actual fact been found with arms and have thereby become a threat to lives in some occasions especially to the non-indigenous residents of or visitors to the state.
The rights group called for the immediate disband of Hisbah Police since it is not an establishment of an Act of the National Assembly.
“So, we are by this statement urging the Nigerian government to disband the illegal HISBAH POLICE with immediate effect,” the group said.
HURIWA said it was perturbed on how Ganduje is turning Kano State into a Taliban State, with sentences that offend constitutional freedoms.
The group pointed out that sentencing to death of 23-year-old upcoming musician, Yahaya Sharif-Aminu after he was found guilty of blasphemy by the Upper Sharia Court, and other similar incidents are testaments of how the State has recently turned into a Taliban State.
“There seems to be no disparity between what Gov. Ganduje is doing in Kano State and what Boko Haram Terrorists have been preaching,” HURIWA said.
According to HURIWA, it was now obvious that Ganduje is carrying out the blueprints of the OIC, which does not augur well for Nigeria’s democracy.

Ex-Big Brother Naija star, Vee, has revealed that fellow ex-housemate, Tolanibaj blocked her on social media.
Vee, however, said she has no beef with Tolanibaj, adding that she may have a conversation with her if they happen to meet.
The face-off between Vee and Tolanibaj started at some point in the lockdown house but many would thought they will forge on after the show.
While Tolanibaj was evicted earlier in the show, Vee stayed till the final day.

American singer, Tremaine Aldon Neverson, popularly known as ‘Trey Songz’ has tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
The 35-year-old father of one took to his Instagram account on Monday to share the news with his fans in a video he posted.
“I am here with a very important message to let you know I tested positive for COVID-19.
“I have taken many tests as I have been out protesting, food drives, of course, I have a very young son at home, so I get tested periodically and this time it, unfortunately, came back positive.

Argentina legend, Diego Maradona, has tested negative for COVID-19, his lawyer, Matias Morla, said on Monday.
Morla’s announcement helped to allay fears that the football icon had contacted the coronavirus after hugging a colleague who was later found to have tested positive.
Maradona, who led Argentina to the World Cup in 1986, took the test after coming into close contact last Friday with Facundo Contin.
Contin is a player who tested positive for COVID-19 less than a day later.

“The test Diego Maradona took has come back negative for COVID-19,” Morla wrote on Twitter.
“Thanks to all the Argentines for their concern and best wishes. Stay safe because the virus is still out there among us.”
Maradona is presently the coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima, a first division club from the city of La Plata.
Argentina has the world’s highest rate of positive COVID-19 tests, according to Oxford-linked tracker Our World In Data, with nearly six out of 10 yielding an infection.
It is a reflection of low testing levels and loose enforcement of lockdown rules.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, says operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state no longer have the authority to unilaterally detain suspects.
Odumosu, who stated this on Tuesday morning while featuring on Channels Television‘s programme, Sunrise Daily, said he held a sensitisation lecture with the officers of the Force on Monday to sensitise them on the new directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
It was earlier reported that there was outrage across the country on Sunday over the harassment, extortion and extra-judicial killings of innocent Nigerians by SARS operatives.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, were among Nigerians who expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of  SARS operatives, describing it as unacceptable.

Adamu had in a swift reaction banned SARS personnel from engaging in routine patrols, stop-and-search, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks with immediate effect.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Lagos Commissioner of Police said the recent directive by the IGP will be more effective than earlier directives issued to curtail the excesses of SARS operatives.
Odumosu said, “It is going to be different because there will be more monitoring and more supervision.
“The additional directive I gave yesterday (Monday) is that they must not even go to investigate any case without booking their arrival at the Area Commander’s office so that the Area Commander will know that they are in that area doing what they ought to do. And once they finish, they must go back and file entry.
“Secondly, I gave a directive that they must not detain anybody in their cells any longer. They can only detain at my office or at the Area Commander’s office. And the Area Commander must interview any suspect they want to detain and ascertain that the suspect had done what warranted being detained.
“All these are additional measures put in to make sure that the supervision is effective. So, there is more supervision now and it going to be more effective now.”

Partey’s move to Arsenal would add quality and depth to Arsenal’s midfield especially now that two of their midfielders favoured a loan move away from the London side.

Partey would partner Xhaka and Ceballos, in the Arsenal’s midfield to help the gunners in their quest for a top-four finish this season. 
 
Last season, the Ghana international made 46 appearances for Atletico, playing a key role in their third-place finish in La Liga and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League. 
 
During his career, Thomas has also enjoyed successful loan spells in Spain with RCD Mallorca (2013/14) and UD Almeria (2014/15), and has made 29 international appearances for Ghana. 
 
Arsenal’s manager expressed delight after Partey signed.

Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, has cautioned security agencies ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
Makinde is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council.
On Sunday, he vowed that the party would prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from using violence to truncate the will of the people.
He spoke after a meeting with the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) deployed for the election and the Commissioner of Police.

Makinde appealed to PDP supporters to remain resolute in their preparedness to vote en-masse for Eyitayo Jegede, the governorship candidate.
He advised security agencies to be neutral and expressed confidence that the APC would be sent out of the Government House in Alagbaka on Saturday.
In a statement by his spokesman, Taiwo Adisa, Makinde said the PDP and its flagbearer have been working hard to convince the electorate on their programmes.
He pointed out that the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu administration has brought hardship upon the people.
The governor added that the ruling party has shown desperation to retain the state despite its failures.
Makinde vowed that PDP would not sit idly and watch the APC harass the electorate.
He insisted that the opposition and Jegede have run an issue-based campaign.
“The APC led administration has brought their characteristic pain and suffering upon the people of Ondo State. And the people have decided it is time for them to go. However, we have noticed how in the past few weeks, our supporters have become targets of violent attacks from APC thugs,” he said.
Makinde recalled the attack on PDP campaign train at Akoko and the subsequent ambush at Irele.
He regretted that Jegede was held hostage and nearly prevented from entering the town.
The PDP campaign leader also condemned the shootings at Owo and latest skirmishes in Akure, the state capital.
Makinde accused the APC of acting as if holding on to government is more important than securing the lives of indigenes and residents.
“They are willing to set Ondo State on fire if that is what it would take for them to retain Alagbaka. We will not sit back and watch our supporters, and indeed any of the electorates intimidated. We will use all legal means at our disposal to ensure that our people are safe. We appeal to them not to allow the threat unleashed by the APC to affect their resolve.
“We must all come out on October 10 to send the APC and their representatives out of the Government House. You must all come out, vote and defend your votes. As my good friend and our candidate Eyitayo Jegede would say: ‘We are more than them. We are much more than they are.’ We cannot allow them to silence us,” he added.
Makinde commended the Police for providing security for Jegede.
“History and posterity have never been kind to anyone who allowed themselves to be used as a tool for injustice. We urge you to read the mood of the people and act accordingly. Politicians may come and go, but the people will always remain. Remember, the world is watching”, he told the AIG and the CP.

Popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley has announced that he would be leading a protest on Tuesday against injustice meted out on Nigerians.
This is following the outcry and #EndSARS campaign on social media against harassment of youths by SARS operatives.
Naira Marley, who had earlier declined participation in any protest over fear of going to prison, announced on his Twitter page that some SARS officials would join the protest.
Giving reasons, Marley said the police officers and SARS personnel would come out to show support against their fellow colleagues and answer questions from Nigerians.

His tweet read: “On Tuesday we got some SARS personnels coming out with us. The ones that claim to only come out for big operations and not the dirty works on road.
“They are coming out to show support and to answer some questions, we also got some police officers and soldiers joining the protest.”
Naira Marley, therefore, appealed to fans and those willing to protest not to fight with any SARS personnel.
“Don’t forget guys just in case you see any SARS or any forces there on Tuesday don’t start any fight. We are allowed to ask questions? But remember no fight, no vandalism. Peaceful protest. Thanks,” he added.

The pump price of petrol may reduce marginally this month, going by the fall in global crude oil prices, oil marketers said on Sunday.
According to them, since the cost of petrol has been largely determined by the price of crude oil, the recent marginal plunge in crude oil cost could lead to a drop in petrol price in Nigeria.
Findings by our correspondent on Sunday showed that Brent, the global benchmark against which Nigeria’s crude is priced, dropped in price by $1.66 or 4.06 per cent as at 13.20pm Central Standard Time.
The commodity (Brent) traded at $39.27 per barrel at the same time, while the cost of crude in the OPEC Basket was put at $39.94 per barrel.

Crude oil in OPEC basket dipped by $1.77 when compared with what it traded on the preceding day.
Speaking to our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday night, the National President, Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, Billy Gillis-Harry, said the prediction of marketers was that petrol price could dip in October.
He, however, said that oil marketers, particularly members of PETROAN, would continue to call for an enlarged stakeholders meeting in determining the price of petrol across the country.
Gillis-Harry said, “We will continue to insist that the arm-chair pattern of fixing prices is not correct. You saw the confusion it caused the last time. We are going to have a meeting with them (government) that will involve all the stakeholders.
 “So, hopefully by then we should be able to have proper information to give to you on the latest in price.
“However, based on the slide in crude oil prices, there is the suspicion that petrol price may come down.”
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency commenced the deregulation of the downstream oil sector in March.
Although it provided petrol price bands in some months after March 2020, the PPPRA eventually stopped issuing price bands, as it explained that the downstream sector had been fully deregulated.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has expressed confidence that Eyitayo Jegede will emerge victorious in Saturday’s Ondo governorship election.
Jegede is up against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chairman of the Forum and Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, spoke on Sunday through the body’s Director-General, C.I.D. Maduabum.
Maduabum quoted Tambuwal as saying PDP governors were united in ensuring that Jegede becomes the next Ondo helmsman.

He noted that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria’s experience, dynamism and programmes will return the State to glory days.
Tambuwal condemned those suggesting that PDP governors were not supporting Jegede.
He called them fifth columnists afraid of the popularity of the party’s candidate and triumph.
“Nothing can stop the march of progress in Ondo. Jegede’s victory is one whose time has come. The Forum speaks with one voice and this naked attempt to sow division and discord within its ranks has failed miserably.
“As a matter of fact, the PDP Governors just rose from a virtual meeting few days ago with a firm resolve and commitment to make sure that all hands are on deck to support and deliver the PDP candidate,” Tambuwal said.

National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) and Petroelum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have ordered their members in Chevron Nigeria Limited to shut down operations.
The directive was contained in a joint statement on Sunday by NUPENG President, Williams Akporeha, and PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo.
It followed the sack of 600 Nigerian employees.
The unions also cited Chevron’s alleged anti-labour practices.
They said: “We have directed our members in Chevron to withdraw their services. We call on the Federal Government to call Chevron to order; we can no longer guarantee industrial peace in the oil and gas sector.
“Here is our fatherland and we have a labour law that regulates the activities of organisations in Nigeria; this law cannot be breached; We must follow the process.”
Labour alleged that Chevron management, on Independence Day, notified about 2,000 employees that their services were no longer required.
The leaders further alleged that Chevron asked employees still interested in working with them to apply afresh.
NUPENG and PENGASSAN declared that the development runs contrary to Nigerian laws and does not protect national interest.
“This is an imperialist agenda that must not be allowed to stay; most especially as we have just finished celebrating our 60th independence as a sovereign country,” they said.
Chevron General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Esimaje Brikinn, explained that the welfare and safety of its workforce was one of its highest priorities.
He noted that the changes made were not easy decisions, but aimed at improving the company’s ability to remain competitive in Nigeria.
“Reducing the cost and improving the efficiency of our operations are critical to generating more revenues for the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Brikinn said.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev Matthew Kukah, has blamed politicians for the agitation for the actualization of Biafra.
Kukah insisted that the agitation for Biafra was a direct result of corruption in Nigeria.
The clergyman stated this in an interview with journalists over the weekend in Abuja.
The clergyman also pointed out that the corruption in Nigeria was responsible for the formation of militant groups, Boko Haram and the likes.

Kukah said: “Before Biafra, there were Odua’ Peoples’ Congress and the Niger Delta Militants, all before Boko Haram and the Islamists.
“So, Biafra is a consequence of the corruption of the Nigerian state. These youth groups are expressions of the frustrations that face their generation.
“They are not the problems and they are not the ones on the dock: The accused is the Nigerian state!”
Groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, have been in the forefront for the break-up of Nigeria.
These groups had anchored their agitation on the perceived marginalization of the Southeast in the areas of infrastructural and general developments.

The General Overseer the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has mocked the minister of works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola over statement that Nigerian roads are not too bad.
The senior pastor lamented the decay of infrastructure in the country.
It was gathered that Fashola had insisted that Nigerian roads are not as bad as being portrayed.
The former Lagos Governor stated this while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

“The roads are not as bad as they are often portrayed. I know that this is going to be your headline, but the roads are not that bad,” Fashola had said.
Addressing his congregation on Sunday, Pastor Adeboye said, “I travel a lot on Nigerian roads and when I travel by road particularly, I understand when someone says the roads are not completely bad.
“I understand that it is a true statement because the roads are not just very bad; they do not exist anymore. It is a road that exists that can be classified as very bad.
“I have travelled within towns and distances that I used to cover within 15 minutes now take up to an hour. Our stagnation must come to an end.”

 “You cannot say that because you belong to a tactical unit, you can dress in your casual clothing and be armed, because people can’t even tell the difference between robbers and the police; if you are not properly dressed in police uniform. So, clearly, a reform is in the offing.” 
 
There was a massive outrage across the country on Sunday over the harassment, extortion and extra-judicial killings of innocent Nigerians by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, one of the units of the Nigeria Police Force.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege; and the Minister of State of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, were among Nigerians who expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of F-SARS operatives, describing it as unacceptable. 
 
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had earlier, in a swift reaction to the extra-judicial killings and harassment of innocent Nigerians, banned personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad from engaging in routine patrols, stop-and-search, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks with immediate effect. 
 
Videos of shooting of a young man by F-SARS in Ugheli, Delta State went viral on Saturday. The security men were said to have fled with his Lexus Jeep and left his body on the roadside. 
 
On Thursday, a sales coordinator with Rifugio Communications Limited, a partner of Samsung, Joshua Oghenekevwe, was abducted by policemen at Epe on his way to Warri, Delta State. They were alleged to have seized his phone and forced him to pay them N100,000 after threatening to kill him. 
 
On September 10, a graduate, Ifeoma Abugu, was allegedly murdered four days after her ‘introduction’ by SARS men, who whisked her away after storming the residence of her fiancé, Afam Ugwunwa, at Wumba village in the Lokogoma area of Abuja to arrest him. 
 I’m angry about F-SARS’ arrest, killing of young people, says Osinbajo 
 
Briefing State House correspondents at his official residence in Abuja, Osinbajo said he was angry about the actions of some policemen, especially those attached to SARS, whom he accused of harassing and sometimes maiming and killing Nigerians nationwide. 
 
He said such actions coming from those saddled with the responsibilities of protecting the citizens were unacceptable. 
 
Osinbajo, therefore, commended the police authorities for the statement issued earlier in the day on the matter, saying it was wrong for policemen to be seizing laptops and phones from young Nigerians in the name of fighting cybercrime. 
 
The vice-president said, “I am very concerned and in fact sometimes angry about what I see happening to young men and women, who are arrested, and in some cases, maimed or killed by men of the police force; in some cases, those who man tactical units of the police force such as SARS and other units. 
 
“It is completely objectionable. It is unacceptable. These are individuals who are meant to protect Nigerians. The arrest, maiming, killing of young people or of anyone at all by these individuals is completely wrong. It is unlawful. It is illegal and all those involved ought to be investigated and prosecuted. 
 
“This afternoon, I had a meeting with the IG of Police. We reviewed several of these issues. The President and I had had discussions on this. He is very concerned about this and he wants to see a reform of this process and I am sure you are probably aware that the IG has issued a statement, looking at all these issues, in particular, warning against the use of these tactical forces such as SARS for the purposes of anything other than anti-bribery as it is supposed to be. 
 
“For example, in the statement, he specifically said that we can’t have a situation where SARS will say they are investigating cybercrime and arresting young men and women who are carrying laptops and their phones. 
 
“Cybercrime is an electronic crime. There is no way that you can investigate that by seizing people’s phones in a taxi. I think it is very obvious that this is a major concern. The few bag eggs within the police force are causing a lot of these.

“You cannot say that because you belong to a tactical unit, you can dress in your casual clothing and be armed, because people can’t even tell the difference between robbers and the police; if you are not properly dressed in police uniform. So, clearly, a reform is in the offing.” 
 
Osinbajo urged Nigerians to continue to bring the issue regularly to the attention of government and the police. 
 
He added, “On the part of government and the police: to ensure that every one of those allegations is properly investigated and those found responsible are prosecuted and publicised so that people know that prosecution has taken place and this is the consequence. I am very confident that we will have a reformed police force and that process has already begun.” 
 
However, the IG, in stopping F-SARS from patrols and operating at checkpoints, added that the directive also affected the Special Tactical Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Anti-Cultism Squad and other tactical squads operating at the federal, zonal and command levels. 
 
A statement in Abuja on Sunday by the Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, indicated that the directive followed incidents of unprofessional conduct, extortion, and abuse of power by the police operatives across the country. 
 
The statement added that no personnel of the force was authorised to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti, stressing that they must always appear in their police uniforms or approved tactical gear. 
 
The statement titled, ‘IGP bans F-SARS, other police tactical squads from routine patrols,’ read, “Specifically, the IGP has warned the tactical squads against the invasion of the privacy of citizens, particularly through an indiscriminate and unauthorised search of mobile phones, laptops and other smart devices. 
 
“They are to concentrate and respond only to cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes, when the need arises.” 
 
But Sunday was not the first time the police would ban SARS. In September 2018, following an outcry over SARS brutality, Ibrahim Idris, the then IGP, issued a similar directive.
