 Apple CEO Tim Cook has declared that he is gay. 
 
Speaking during an interview with CNN’s Christian Amanpour, Cook stated that being gay is God’s greatest gift to him and revealed getting a lot of feedback from kids who read about his sexual orientation. 
 
He further stated that he likes to maintain a low profile and does not like to draw attention to himself since Apple is a closely watched company and wants the focus to be on their products. 
 
"I was public because I started to receive stories from kids who read online that I was gay. 
 
"I needed to do something for them. I learned what it was like to be a minority. 
 
“The feeling of being in a minority gives you a level of empathy for other people who are not in the majority," he said.

In a separate essay for Businessweek, Cook explained that his desire for privacy had been holding him back from doing ‘something important.’ 
 
“At the same time, I believe deeply in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, who said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ” 
 
“I often challenge myself with that question, and I’ve come to realize that my desire for personal privacy has been holding me back from doing something more important. That’s what has led me to today. 
 
 
He added: “For years, I’ve been open with many people about my sexual orientation. Plenty of colleagues at Apple know I’m gay, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the way they treat me. 
 
“Of course, I’ve had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people’s differences. 
 
“Not everyone is so lucky,” he said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to show proof of his vaunted integrity by presenting his academic documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and put to an end his certificate saga. 
 
The main opposition party also urged President Buhari to fulfil his obligation like other presidential candidates, by presenting his certificate, if he has any, instead of bugging the commission with affidavits. 
 
A statement yesterday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, accused the President of seeking ways to short-circuit the system, instead of complying with set rules. 
 
The party said while its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has submitted his educational and other relevant documents to INEC, President Buhari has continued to insist that his secondary school certificate was with the military authorities. 
 
The statement said: “Indeed, a situation where President Buhari has been dodging the certificate issue raises huge questions of integrity, which demands that he makes available his credentials, or apologise to Nigerians, if he has none, so that the nation can move ahead. 
 
“President Buhari knows by now that Nigerians are no longer interested in his claims in an affidavit wherein he stated: ”I am the above-named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit”. 
 
The PDP maintained that integrity strictly demands that President Buhari, particularly as the Commander-in-Chief write to the military authorities directing them to forward his claimed credentials to INEC, as requisite evidence of compliance with a key requirement for election into the Office of the President, under Section 131 (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Details emerged yesterday, that, of the 79 candidates vying for the 2019 presidential election, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificates of ex-Governor Donald Duke (Social Democratic Party) and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko (Zenith Labour Party) were “missing” from their credentials. 
 
The aspirants were silent on their participation in the NYSC scheme. Duke, in his nomination form, admitted that he “attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a law degree in 1982 and the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Bar in 1983. 
 
“He attended the University of Pennsylvania in the United States from 1983 to 1984 where he obtained a Master of Laws (LLM).” 
 
Like Duke, Mimiko was silent on his NYSC career and efforts to reach him via his mobile line on his nomination form were unsuccessful. 
 
It was not immediately clear if the fault was from INEC or the candidates did not participate in the scheme.

Also, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd) of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) and former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Gen. Sani Abacha, claimed that his credentials are still with the Nigerian Army. 
 
Reacting to an applicant’s query about his ‘missing’ credentials, Al-Mustapha said in his nomination form: “My entire personal documents including my certificates and awards were taken away by the then government in 1998. Formal complaints were registered before High Court of Lagos (2000-2001) and Federal High Court 3(Lagos Division)-2004-2007 but the government refused to obey court orders till today. 
 
“However, Nigerian Army (my employer-1983 -2013) is in custody of the certificates this applicant is asking of. 
 
“I was a victim of persecution for 15 years (1998-2013 over trump up charges. I was however exonerated and freed of the wanton charges vide Court of Appeal ruling: “Major Hamza Al-Mustapha v, The State CA/L/469a/ 2012”-Judgment delivered on 12th July 2013. 
 
Al-Mustapha’s narration bears resemblance to that given by incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who claimed that his certificates were with the military in a 2014 affidavit attached to his presidential nomination form. 
 
Further findings revealed that a total of 79 aspirants including President Buhari, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-World Bank Vice President, Oby Ezekwesili, Al-Mustapha, Duke, Mimiko, and two former Deputy Governors (DGs)of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia (African Democratic Congress) and Kingsley Moghalu (Young Progressive Party), are in the list of aspirants for the 2019 presidential election. 
 
Also, there are four women seeking to be president in 2019 including Oby Ezekwesili; the others are Angela Johnson (Alliance for United Nigeria); Mercy Olufunmilayo Adesanya-Davies (Mass Action Joint Alliance); and Hajia Rabia Yasai Hassan Cengiz (NAC party).

Out of 89 political parties fielding candidates for 2019 general elections, 10 parties have opted out of the presidential contest. The parties are APN, LPN, MDP, NGA, PDC, PDM, PPP, PRP, UPP and YP. 
 
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also clarified, last night, that, 6, 351 candidates will vie for 109 seats in the Senate and 360 seats in the House of Representatives. 
 
In the wake of INEC’s disclosure, Nigerians trooped to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to verify the list of presidential candidates and their credentials in line with the claims and objections allowed by the Electoral Act. 
 
The electorate defied the scorching sun to go through the list pasted on the gate of INEC office.

La Liga president, Javier Tebas says EL Clasico will lose nothing despite the absence of Barcelona star, Lionel Messi and Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo. 
 
Barcelona will take on Real Madrid in the first EL Clasico clash this season in the La Liga fixture on Saturday evening at the Camp Nou stadium. 
 
Messi will miss the clash against the Los Blancos due to a fractured arm injury, while Ronaldo, Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer, left the Santiago Bernabeu to join Juventus in a €112million transfer last summer. 
 
Saturday’s clash will be the first time since December 2007 that the arch rivals would face off without the both five-time Ballon d’Or winners.

Tebas, however, believes that Messi and Ronaldo will be the ones losing for not featuring in the Clasico, insisting that Barcelona versus Real Madrid is bigger than the pair. 
 
“I think Cristiano and Messi are the ones losing something without being in this Clasico, they won’t be there,” Tebas told Omnisport. 
 
“The Clasico doesn’t lose because I think it will be at a maximum level with two great teams and I think those teams are greater than the players. I think it will be the first time without Cristiano and Messi and it will be a good one as a strategic thing 
 
“The Clasico is one of the star products in La Liga. We are looking for more matches to be star products but it’s true Barcelona versus Real Madrid is a great product which we have to work with and improve in order to reach all our supporters over the world.”

Presidency has reacted to claims that President Muhammadu Buhari influences major agencies in the country, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. 
 
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina made the statement on Thursday in an interview on Channels Television. 
 
According to him, President Buhari does not interfere with INEC and neither does he interfere with EFCC and other agencies. 
 
This is following some accusations, especially by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that President Buhari interferes with many agencies in the country including INEC and EFCC.

The PDP, on several occasions, petitioned the European Union, United Kingdom and the United States’ governments, including other international bodies, of its vote of no confidence on INEC and the EFCC, saying the 2019 election is at stake because INEC, according to it, is influenced by the president. 
 
Recall that just yesterday, the National youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye, said that it has petitioned the German, United Kingdom, France governments and the Common Wealth of Nations on what it described as the anti-democratic activities of the Buhari-led government. 
 
Also, the National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, had also reiterated his earlier stand that the party lacked confidence in the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct credible. 
 
Citing the the recent governorship election in Osun state, Secondus had said that the neutrality of INEC to conduct the 2019 general elections remains questionable. 
 
According to him, “When we eschewed violence after the electoral theft in Osun State and decided to excise our right to peaceful protest, Inspector-General of Police directed his personnel to tear gas us, notwithstanding the personalities involved in the protest- the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representstives, five state governors and National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, and other critical leaders. 
 
“Our fear is strong that the APC and the administration are not disposing themselves for a peaceful 2019 general election and we base our position on the multiplicity of induced crisis across the country.” 
 
However, reacting to the allegation, Buhari’s aide, Mr. Adesina said there is no iota of truth in the claims of the PDP. 
 
According to him, “There is not a shred of truth in the allegation. Those who know the President (and millions of Nigerians know him) know that he is a fair player.” 
“All this talk to EU, UN, is a symptom of a party and a people that have gone out of ideas because they have no ideas to peddle again.” 
 
“President Buhari has always said it; I remember that he first told me in a private conversation in 2015 … that if it is a clean, free and fair election that he leaves for Nigerians, then he will be a satisfied man.” 
“So, President Buhari does not interfere with INEC; INEC is truly independent under this President.”</div>

Members of the Economic Management Team will on Monday meet state governors on the issue of new National Minimum Wage. 
 
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed this in an interview with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. 
 
The meeting will hold ahead of the November 6 commencement date of a nationwide industrial action called by labour unions on the matter. 
 
Ngige insisted that no final decision has been taken on the matter.

The minister also threatened that the government will not hesitate to implement the  ‘No work, no pay’ rule which he claimed started during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. </div>

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration will sustain the delivery of quality infrastructure across the country for investments and businesses to thrive. 
 
The president made this known when he received representatives of Trade Associations from the 36 states and the FCT led by the National Coordinator, Prince Paul Ikonne, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday. 
 
Buhari pledged that he would continue to do his best to ensure that the country is safe and secure for everybody. 
 
The President welcomed the group’s appreciation of government’s efforts in providing and improving critical infrastructure, especially roads and railways, to ensure ease in movement of goods and services.

He said: ‘‘These efforts are part of our campaign slogans on security, the economy and the fight against corruption; and on security, it is common-sense that unless the country is secured it cannot be governed. 
 
‘‘The best people to comment on the achievements of this administration in terms of security are people who come from the North East where they used to share their local governments with Boko Haram, get ambushed and dispossessed. 
 
‘‘Today, we are all witnesses to the commendable efforts of government on security.’’ 
 
The President also took note of some major observations by the traders including illegal seizure of good by agents of governments, harmonisation of taxes and charges, and the need for timely completion of rail networks connecting ‘‘South to North, North to the East and East to the West.’’ 
 
In his remarks, Ikonne praised the Buhari administration for instituting policies that were friendly and encouraging to traders, artisans and farmers. 
 
The National Coordinator declared the Association’s support for the fight against corruption, saying ‘‘Mr President, we must applaud your courage to fight corruption which is restoring Nigeria’s reputation within and outside the country. 
 
“This, indeed, is an outstanding achievement and we are proud of you.’’</div>

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, was robbed by pickpockets after the Aiteo Cup Final between Enugu Rangers and Kano Pillars. 
 
Rangers came from three goals down to draw 3-3, before eventually winning 4-3 on penalties. 
 
Rohr watched the game live at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State and according to the German, he lost his valuables as he made his way out after the match. 
 
Valuables like his smartphone and immigration documents, were among the items he lost.

“I lost my wallet containing my Samsung 8 and my visa visiting card just after the Aiteo Cup final in Asaba on Wednesday. 
 
“I was trying to exit the stadium but the fans were many pushing and running up and down. So I didn’t know the time my wallet was stolen. I am appealing to whoever took it to please return it to me because I am also a Nigerian by working with our darling Super Eagles. 
 
“The documents are very vital for my work with the Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation. We still have many qualifying and other friendly matches to play and I won’t be able to do the work without the items. I will personally reward whoever helps find the wallet with the items in it,” Rohr told SportingLife.</div>

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, was on Thursday, conferred with multiple honours, including honorary citizenship of the State of Georgia in the U.S. 
 
Kachikwu was also conferred with honorary doctorate degree by the Trinity International University of Ambassadors, and Keys to the State of South Carolina and City of Stonecrest, State of Georgia. 
 
The event, which held at the Capitol Hill of the state in Atlanta, also featured the declaration of Oct. 25 as `Emmanuel Kachikwu Day’ by the State of South Carolina. 
 
Senatorial and Legislative hosts, the Black Caucus of the State Legislature, took turns to eulogise Kachikwu’s “unimpeachable” reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness and kindness.

The legislators – Gloria Butler, Michael Rheft, Donzella James, Roger Bruce, Billy Mitchel, Howard Mosby, Erica Thomas, Sandra Scotts, Pam Stevenson, Jason Lary, and John King, also expressed pride at their African heritage. 
 
State of Georgia has the largest Black Caucus in the U.S. hosting 60 members, and is described as the ‘heartbeat of African-Americans, with about 3.2 million black population. 
 
Ms Dawkins Haigler, Chair Emeritus of the Black Caucus, and most of the other legislators, said they had done their ancestry tests, which confirmed that they were between 65 per cent and 85 per cent Nigerians. 
 
The lawmakers said they always knew they were Africans and were proud to identify with their motherland, adding that they had sponsored several trips to Nigeria. 
 
Responding to the awards, Kachikwu, who was visibly elated at the honours, said he was “extremely humbled” and dedicated the honours to President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
“Usually I don’t lack words but today, I think I do by the happenstance of today. I think the award is fantastic but what I think is more important is the symbolism of the awards. 
 
“The fact that citizens of the United States, especially our Black brothers and sisters, decided today to recognise a very humble nation that has nearly half of the population of Africa and commands the great economic heights of Africa and is bound to be the leader of tomorrow in the world. 
 
“That country is Nigeria; and for those of you who haven’t been there, you should be there; you should be in a hurry to get there. 
 
“You will attest to the fact that it is only a matter of time before Nigeria finds its feet and finds its own and become a power to recognise. 
 
“I thank President Muhammadu Buhari who gave me the opportunity to serve in various capacities that are bringing some of these awards today. 
 
“Not only for his self belief but his determination as the leader to go outside the political mainstream and pick somebody he believed could help in the arduous task of trying to change the oil environment. 
 
“It is still work in progress; there’s still a lot of work to be done but we’re very committed. 
 
“The problem with Nigeria isn’t the disagreement that we have, it isn’t the things that we have not achieved, it isn’t the sometimes black sheep name that pervades all over the world about Nigeria, that is not the problem with Nigeria. 
 
“The problem of Nigeria is the unwillingness of the young and the old to forge collectively in a very transparent manner, to shake up what is vibrantly sleeping giant.” 
 
According to him, Nigeria is primed for growth, success, generative leadership and to hopefully be the sitting home of most Black Americans. 
 
Kachikwu said he was always very humbled to be called a Nigerian because “despite its challenges, it is the most wonderful place in the world to be in”. 
 
The minister also said he was always proud to be called a ‘minister’ in the sense in that it was not different from an ordained pastor there to serve his people with a lot of transparency. 
 
“Quite frankly, I’m nothing more than a humble servant. And if there’s something this President has achieved, it is the fact that ministers have become commonplace people, no longer the ego-strapped people to be celebrated. 
 
Kachikwu recalled the challenges the administration was confronted with when it came on board, including the crash of oil price, the lowest crude production in decades, and recession. 
 
He, however, commended management and staff members of the ministry who worked assiduously with him. 
 
According to him, they set ambitious goals, and expressed pride that most of the targets are being met. 
 
“So, today, the recognition that I get, I receive in honour of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
“Also, in honour of my colleagues who have worked very deeply with me and I think some of the things that we’ve achieved over the last three years, we didn’t think were possible. 
 
“Into the next five years, I see a Nigeria where there will be power available for all nationals, where our refineries will work so we do not have to import petroleum products, where young people can set up businesses and do not need to know anybody in the system to be able to make that business grow. 
 
“A Nigeria where irrespective of where you come from – North, South, East and West – we will become brothers,” he said. 
 
Among the dignitaries who attended the event were the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan, Directors, heads of agencies of the ministry, Nigerian officials in the U.S., and members of the Nigerian community, among others.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s “Restore Vision Project” is offering free cataract surgery to more than 270 visually impaired persons in Nasarawa State in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health. 
 
Dr James Ajige, a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, told newsmen on Friday that the exercise has commenced with the screening of persons with cases of cataract. 
 
He explained that after proper examination, those requiring surgery would undergo the process, urging all cataract patients to avail themselves of the opportunity. 
 
“We have already screened quite a number of persons and are expecting more to come forward and get screened in order to benefit from this gesture that will be carried out across the three senatorial zones of the state,” Ajige said.

He also appealed to members of the public with any form of visual impairment to visit the hospital and not resort to self help or self medication considering the delicate nature of the eye. 
 
“I will like to encourage anyone with poor vision to go for proper medical check at the hospital to avoid complications given the sensitivity of the eye,” he advised. 
 
Newsmen report that the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, had on March 8, 2018, launched the Buhari Restore Vision Project aimed at restoring sight to 10,000 Nigerians with cataract through surgical intervention.</div>

FIFA are opposed to La Liga’s plans to stage the match between Barcelona and Girona later this season in the United States, Gianni Infantino confirmed on Friday. 
 
“Following a request of guidance from the Spanish FA, US Soccer and CONCACAF…the council emphasised the sporting principle that official league matches must be played within the territory of the respective member association,” said the president of world football’s governing body at a press conference. 
 
“The council has very clear views on that,” added Infantino, who was speaking at the end of a FIFA council meeting in the Rwandan capital Kigali. 
 
His remarks will not go down well with La Liga chief Javier Tebas, who has shown a determination to go ahead with the plans to play the match, scheduled for January 26, in Miami.

FIFA’s statutes suggest that they are able to block La Liga’s plans — article 71 says the governing body “may take the final decision on the authorisation of any international match or competition.”

Real Madrid have voiced their unhappiness at the ideas, and the country’s players’ association and football federation have both rejected the proposal. 
 
Spain has played its season-opening Super Cup outside the country, with Barcelona beating Sevilla in the Moroccan city of Tangiers in August. However, the idea of taking the league — and especially title contenders in Barcelona — abroad is far more contentious.</div>

The National Emergency Management Agency has received another batch of 149 stranded Nigerians from Libya. 
 
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 1.20am on Friday. 
 
They were brought back in a Buraq Airlines Boeing 737-8000 aircraft with registration number 5A-DMG by the International Organisation for Migration under its Assisted Voluntary Return Programme. 
 
Spokesperson for NEMA, South West Zone, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said the majority of the returnees came back from Tripoli, the capital city of the volatile North African country.

Following continued killing, maiming of students and members of staff as well as the destruction of property worth millions of naira whenever there is crisis in Jos, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Jos chapter, has called for the immediate reclamation of university land illegally occupied by communities who carry out the attacks. 
 
The union also demanded the strengthening of internal security apparatus within the institution and called on the Federal Government to provide special intervention fund for the construction of more hostels and staff quarters and erection of parameter fencing of the institution’s land mass. 
 
ASUU chairman in the university, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, who expressed the concern at a media briefing, yesterday, said the institution was under siege, having been affected by the crisis in Jos in the past 17 years. 
 
He urged the Federal Government to show concern about the lives and property of the staff and students and release the take-off grant of the university to enable it develop the needed infrastructure.

Maigoro pointed out that hoodlums from immediate communities of Angwan Rogo, Bauchi Road, Angwan Rimi, Kwanan Shagari, Fanfare and Angwan Rukuba at the slightest security breach, unleash mayhem on students, staff and property, stressing that the school environment was not safe for academic activities. 
 
He said: “The University of Jos has not known lasting peace since the first major crisis erupted on September 7, 2001 in Plateau State. 
 
‘’That particular crisis and subsequent ones have continued to claim the lives and property of staff and students of the university, up to the recent one during which the university lost two students and one member of staff. One student is still missing and one in the hospital nursing a bullet wound.”</div>

Traditional rulers in Badagry communities, have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to give a directive on reconstruction of Lagos-Seme Expressway to facilitate easy movement of people. 
 
They made the plea at the official handover of the new Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Border Post by President Buhari, at Seme-Krake and Neope-Akanu in Badagry. 
 
The Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi 1, said that the road had become an embarrassment to the entire Badagry communities. 
 
The monarch said: “We are appealing to our amiable President to as a matter of urgency start reconstruction of the road.

“As a father of all traditional rulers in Badagry Division, I have written a request to President Buhari on the repair of the road and I’m hopeful that he will read it. 
 
“We are happy about the commissioning and hand-over ceremony of the ECOWAS building post. 
 
“This is will facilitate easy movement of people and trade expansion in ECOWAS countries.” 
 
Also speaking, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, Badagry, Oba Sejiro Olalekan, said the presence of the president was well appreciated by the communities. 
 
Olalekan said that it would have been more appreciated if the President had come through the road to see what Badagry indigenes were passing through on the Lagos Seme expressway. 
 
He said: “You cannot build this kind of gigantic building here and our roads will not be in order. 
 
“Seme is the most lucrative border we have but the road leading to Badagry and Seme is bad. We spent more than four to five hours coming from Lagos to Badagry, which is supposed to be 45minutes. 
 
“We are pleading that our President should look into major roads leading to the gigantic building. This road is our major concern now.” 
 
Also speaking, the Ajagun of Imeke Kingdom, Oba Abraham Olatunji, urged the president to treat the road reconstruction as a matter of urgency. Olatunji said: “The country is generating a lot of revenue here so we should be compensated with the road. We the host communities are not benefiting without the road.” 
 
On his part, the Oniworo of Iworo, Oba Olajide Kosoko, said that having spent a lot of money to construct the building, government should also start the reconstruction of the expressway. “The President should help us to fix the road. We are happy to see our number one citizen here today,’’ Kosoko said.</div>

 The Adamawa Police Command said on Thursday that the 25-year-old man, Lawan Faro, who climbed a 40 metres high Mast in Yola, is undergoing psychiatric evaluation. 
 
Faro mounted the mast on Wednesday to protest current hardship in the country and vowing to commit suicide. 
 
“He has been taken to a hospital for psychiatric test to be carried on him in order to verify his mental status,” the Command spokesman, Othman Abubakar, said in Yola. 
 
The man was persuaded by security operatives to climb down at about 8pm on Wednesday after hanging atop the mast for about eight hours.

Some of the onlookers had however accused Faro of being lazy, saying serious minded youths in the state are already set to reap from their investments on farming. 
 
“We are celebrating bumper harvest in Adamawa not hardship; he is just playing politics or one of those lazy youths hoping to make quick money from politicians,” said Ibrahim Musa, a farmer. 
 
He said such risky behaviour should not be encouraged.

Spokesperson of the Coalition of Imo State All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders known as Imo Allied Forces, Theodore Ekechi, yesterday said that the ongoing political battle between the coalition and Governor Rochas Okorocha was achieving it’s desired results. 
 
Ekechi who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, boasted that the group had succeeded in making it difficult for “Okorocha to install his preferred successor for 2019 governorship, Uche Nwosu.” 
 
His statement came at a time  Okorocha’s loyalists  led by  the secretary general, ‘Southeast for President Muhammadu Buhari’,Mr. Charles Chalvon had threatened to dump the party should the APC fail to submit the name of Nwosu as the 2019 governorship candidate in the state. 
 
Chalvon, among other things said: “We are pleading with the national chairman of our party, Adams Oshiomhole not to do anything that will end the existence of the party in this state. APC is Okorocha and Okorocha is APC. Some of us left PDP because of this kind of thing and now, it is happening in APC.”

Recall that an Abuja High Court had adjourned till further notice, the case of the Imo APC governorship ticket between Senator Hope Uzodimma and Uche Nwosu.

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped five National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were travelling to their orientation camps in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states. 
 
Two other passengers on the bus conveying the corps members were also kidnapped. 
The victims were travelling from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to Rivers and Akwa Ibom states where they were posted to undertake their three-week NYSC orientation. 
 
They were kidnapped on the Owerri-Port Harcourt Expressway and taken to the Umuapu forest in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. 
 
Briefing journalists after the victims were rescued by the police, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, said the kidnappers established contact with the families of the corps members and demanded N5m ransom.

The CP gave the names of the corps members as Abiola Temitope, Olubisi Adekanmi, Jose Temitayo, Folarin Opeyemi and Shonibare Ademola, while the other two victims were identified as Leonard Uzondu and Raymond Ojodahe. 
 
The CP said, “The victims were travelling from Ibadan to Port Harcourt. Five out of the seven of them are prospective corps members. 
 
“They were on their way to the NYSC orientation camps in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states for the three weeks camping. 
 
“They were kidnapped around 5am on Wednesday at Umuapu, on the Owerri-Port-Harcourt Expressway. 
 
“The kidnappers took them to a forest and dispossessed them of all their belongings, including money, phones, ATM cards and voter cards. 
 
“They compelled them to call their relatives at home to speak to them. Immediately contact was established, they instilled fear in the parents and demanded N5m for their freedom.” 
 
The CP explained that through intelligence gathering, the operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the command were alerted. 
 
He said, “The operatives went into the bush and on sighting the officers, the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled. We rescued them unhurt, but the hoodlums made away with their valuables. 
 
“This is part of the dividends of community policing. I urge Imo State residents to keep sharing information with the police. We cannot do it alone.” 
 
Galadanchi said he had ordered investigation into the incident with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects. 
 
One of the victims, Abiola, said, “They stopped our bus and ordered us at gunpoint to follow them into the forest. They were five with guns and machetes. 
 
“In the bush, they took our belongings except our credentials and ordered us to call our parents. They made a demand of N5m, but they later brought it down to N3m. 
 
“They ordered us to close our eyes. They were even quarrelling on how to share our personal belongings which they took from us. It was in the process that the police intervened and they abandoned us and ran away.”</div>

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, believed to be a multi-billionaire has declared a paltry yearly personal income of N20 million. 
 
The shocking revelation was contained in the credentials that Atiku filed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP candidate, who prides himself as a businessman and job creator said he earned only N60.2 million in three years and paid a paltry N10.8 million tax between 2015 and 2017.

Some reports have estimated Atiku’s wealth at about $1.4 billion. 
 
In 2014, Atiku boasted that he was the greatest employer of labour in Nigeria, with about 50,000 Nigerians on his payroll. 
 
“As an individual, I believe my record in employing young Nigerians is unrivalled by any single private investor in Nigeria,” the former vice president said. 
 
He has investments in media, shipping, education, and other sectors. One of the companies, where he has substantial interest is Intels, which recently ran into trouble with the Nigerian government for not remitting revenue due to the Nigerian treasury. 
 
He is also the founder of American University in Yola and has a chain of schools under ABTI brand. 
 
He owns Prodeco, a property development company and Prodeco International, operating in Oil & Gas Free Zones. 
 
Prodeco, founded in 1996, engages in building, marine, and infrastructural construction in the oil and gas industry. 
 
He also has interest in agriculture, with Atiku Abubakar Farms. 
 
The PDP candidate’s credentials indicate his highest educational qualification as a Diploma in Law of 1969 from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). 
 
President Muhammadu Buhari, in an affidavit to support his form, said his credentials are still with the military. 
 
In the sworn affidavit, the President, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said: “I am the above-named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. About 70 out of the 91 political parties are presenting presidential candidates that will participate in the 2019 Presidential elections. 
 
Our source gathered from the FCT office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, reported that over 70 names had been posted as of Thursday night. 
 
The list was posted with INEC’s timetable which fixed October 25 for the publication of candidates of political parties across the country. 
 
Some of the candidates include: President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obadiah Mailafia of the African Democratic Congress, and former Governor Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party. 
 
A source at INEC said the figure might be higher than 70.

He said, “So far, over 70 candidates have been counted. A more comprehensive list will be published on Friday.” 
 
The source said the ballot paper for the presidential election would also be long, adding that the announcement of election results in 2019 might even take longer. 
 
Meanwhile, the various candidates’ credentials were made available to journalists on Thursday. 
 
Buhari again failed to attach necessary supporting documents, insisting that they were in the custody of the military. 
 
In the affidavit which he swore to, Buhari said, “I am the above named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.” 
 
On his part, Atiku submitted all relevant documents, with a Diploma in Law in 1969 from the Ahmadu Bello University being his highest qualification. 
 
The former Vice-President also attached tax returns indicating that he had paid N10.8m in tax from 2015 to 2017 while declaring his income within the period as N60.2m.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, says N30,000 as minimum wage for civil servants is not feasible. 
 
The Nigerian Labour Congress has been at loggerheads with the federal government over a demand for an increase in the minimum wage. 
 
Labour has rejected the proposal of the federal government to raise the minimum wage from N18,000 to N24,000. 
 
Speaking during a Channels TV programme on Thursday, Adesina said even if public office holders sacrifice their entire pay, that will not still make such minimum wage achievable. 
 
He said even some governors are unable to pay the N18,000, not to talk of N30,000.

“Maybe if the members of the national assembly concede part of their salaries and allowances, it can make a dent on minimum wage. But other office holders dont earn anything outrageous.”

Some gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped five members of the National Youth Service Corps who were travelling to their orientation camps in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states. 
 
Two other passengers on the bus conveying the corps members were also kidnapped. 
 
The fresh graduates and the other victims were travelling from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to Rivers and Akwa Ibom states where they were billed to undertake their three-week NYSC orientation. 
 
They were kidnapped on the Owerri-Port Harcourt Expressway and taken to the Umuapu forest in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. 
 
Briefing journalists after the victims were rescued by the police, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command, Dasuki Galadanchi, said the kidnappers established contact with the families of the corps members and demanded N5m ransom.

The CP gave the names of the corps members as Abiola Temitope, Olubisi Adekanmi, Jose Temitayo, Folarin Opeyemi and Shonibare Ademola. 
 
Other victims were identified as Leonard Uzondu and Raymond Ojodahe. 
 
The CP said, “The victims were travelling from Ibadan to Port Harcourt. Five out of the seven of them are prospective corps members. They were on their way to the NYSC orientation camps in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states for the three weeks camping. 
 
“They were kidnapped around 5am on Wednesday at Umuapu, on the Owerri-Port-Harcourt Expressway. The kidnappers took them to a forest and dispossessed them of all their belongings, including money, phones, ATM cards and voter cards. 
 
“They compelled them to call their relatives at home to speak to them. Immediately contact was established, they instilled fear in the parents and demanded N5m for their freedom.” 
 
The CP explained that through intelligence gathering, the operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the command were alerted. 
 
He said, “The operatives went into the bush and on sighting the officers, the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled. We rescued them unhurt, but the hoodlums made away with their valuables. 
 
“This is part of the dividends of community policing. I urge Imo State residents to keep sharing information with the police. We cannot do it alone.” 
 
Galadanchi said he had ordered investigation into the incident with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects. 
 
One of the victims, Abiola, said, “They stopped our bus and ordered us at gunpoint to follow them into the forest. They were five with guns and machetes. 
 
“In the bush, they took our belongings except our credentials and ordered us to call our parents. They made a demand of N5m, but they later brought it down to N3m. 
 
“They ordered us to close our eyes. They were even quarrelling on how to share our personal belongings which they took from us. It was in the process that the police intervened and they abandoned us and ran away.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insisted yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari has not performed. 
 
Party spokesman Kola Ologbodiyan, in a statement, said: “We know that President Buhari is eager to stuff up his false performance claims ahead of election, but doing so with the achievements of others is the height of desperation and deceit, which has already become repugnant to majority of Nigerians and the international community. 
 
“The PDP therefore counsels President Buhari’s handlers to use the remaining days of his failed administration to prepare him to get ready to accept his imminent defeat in 2019, as Nigerians have already rallied behind our candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whose performance credential is known to all.” 
 
The opposition party also accused the administration of claiming credit for the Port Harcourt Airport Terminal, saying the project was conceptualised, articulated and financed by the PDP administration.

The PDP said President Buhari’s “theatrical” commissioning of the terminal built by the PDP administration was another failed media stunt to create a false impression that Mr. President is performing, even when he made no contribution whatsoever towards the execution of the project. 
 
“If anything, the Buhari administration, in its incompetence, only succeeded in delaying the completion of the project, which was perfected by the PDP, including payments to contractors. 
 
“It is to say the least appalling that after three and half years, a President, who is seeking reelection, cannot point to any development project initiated and executed by his administration in any part of our country. 
 
“Instead, our dear President has been moving around trying to claim credit for projects executed by the PDP, all in a desperate attempt to cover his failures in governance,” he added. 
 
The PDP said the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had similarly attempted to claim credit for the Abuja Light Rail Project, saying that it is public knowledge that the project was conceptualised and policy-propelled by the PDP.

A housewife, Hauwa Adamu, has implored a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to Isyaku Na’Allah, over alleged inability to satisfy her sexually. Hauwa alleged that her husband had never satisfied her sexually. 
 
“He only lasts for two minutes on top of me.’’ 
 
She said she married him under the Islamic rights and the union did not produce any child. 
 
Hauwa also alleged that Na’Allah always accused her of aborting pregnancies whenever she conceived, an accusation she denied. 
 
She said their childlessness was as a result of Na’Allah’s lack of “sexual performance.’’

Ex-Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour Mr. Clement Iloh yesterday told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that he could not remember the date or year he was appointed as a permanent secretary. 
 
Iloh is facing trial for allegedly stealing N14 million by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo. 
 
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. 
 
Iloh, however, noted that as at 2013, he earned N757,000 as a Level 17 officer. 
 
When shown the bank account statements of a company, Clement and Bob, to which he is the sole signatory, Iloh maintained that it was his business account, which he opened alongside his son.

When Oyedepo showed him that the account has a credit balance of N453 million, Iloh said: “I don’t know how you jumped into that amount. What brought me here was a N14 million alleged theft charge.” 
 
Iloh also denied receiving credit alerts into the account from several contractors and junior officials in the ministry and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) staff. 
 
The former Permanent Secretary’s counsel Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), however, raised objection when Oyedepo again showed the defendant his company’s statement of account where he received N100 million from a Bureau de Change operator while also receiving the dollar equivalent in cash. 
 
Ayorinde questioned why Oyedepo was trying to get his client to accept that he received the dollar equivalent of N100 million. 
 
“My Lord, the prosecution is simply trying to get my client to admit to money laundering charges so that they can file new charges,” Ayorinde said. 
 
Illoh, however, admitted to collecting another N100 million in 10 tranches of N10 million each, but maintained that the money does not belong to him. 
 
He explained that the N49 million transferred into his company account by NIMASA was meant for “community service”. 
 
On further probing by the EFCC prosecuting counsel, the defendant said the community service he referred to was a SURE P programme. 
 
He, however, admitted that there was no contract between his company, Clement and Bob and NIMASA as at the time the N49 million was paid. 
 
Justice Taiwo thereafter adjourned the matter till November 21 and 22 for continuation of trial.

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the deadline for registration of corps members at the various camps to tomorrow, especially for newly mobilised University of Ilorin (Unilorin) graduates. 
 
According to Mr. Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs of University of Ilorin, the circular dated October 24, was sent to all state coordinators of NYSC. 
 
He said the memo was signed on behalf of the NYSC Director-General, Brig-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, by Mrs. R. B. Ohakwu. 
 
The memo stated that the extension was as a result of a passionate request from the University of Ilorin, to allow prospective corps members from the institution attend their convocation ceremonies.

“So, Unilorin graduates, who have been mobilised for the NYSC, still have up to Saturday, October 27, to report at their various NYSC camps all over the federation,” it said.

More than 84 million Nigerians are eligible to vote in next year’s general election, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu said yesterday. 
 
He spoke when he received a delegation of the African Union (AU). 
 
The continental organisation promised to provide full support to INEC during the 2019 general election. The team was led by Musa Faki Mahamad. 
 
Prof Yakubu, said the commission had carried out the observations and recommendations the Union made after the 2015 elections. 
 
“Your visit is coming exactly 113 days to the elections in Nigeria scheduled for Saturday February 16, 2019.

“In response, and for the first time in the history of elections in Nigeria, INEC conducted the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) from April 27, 2017 to August 31, 2018 during which some 14.5 million new voters were registered in addition to about 70 million voters registered before the 2015 General Elections. 
 
“This brings the total number of registered voters in Nigeria today to well over 84 million. We have also systematically printed and made available the PVCs for collection by citizens in batches well ahead of the 2019 General Election. 
 
“The last batch of the PVC will be available for collection in early December and collection will continue until at least one week to the 2019 General Elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s scorecard took the spot yesterday at various events by government officials in the countdown to the February 2019 presidential election. 
 
Responding to the request in various quarters for the campaign to be issue-based, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha declared that Buhari would run on his rich scorecard, unlike in 2015 when he ran on promises. 
 
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello also described the president’s performance in superlative terms. 
 
At a town hall meeting in Ibadan, two ministers handling the critical areas of infrastructure development – Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi – said the Buhari administration had done more in three years than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration did in 16 years. 
 
The President himself blamed the PDP for wasting the nation’s commonwealth during their regimes.

Speaking at a dinner for youthful political appointees at the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Mustapha said: ”If we have to make a comparison of what has been achieved in the last couple of years, the 16 years of PDP administration will not constitute one-tenth of what we have been able to achieve in the last three and half years. 
 
“We went to the 2015 elections with promises, but we will go to the 2019 elections with our scorecard.” 
 
He added that “as a government arm, we have achieved so much and I am going to make available to you a document that we have put together, which captures what the government has been able to achieve in just about two and half years; what I call a mid-term report.” 
 
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, at the same event, said: “President Buhari is a good product we know, but we must go out to sell him to Nigerians. Perception is very critical in times like this. If we fail, God forbid, the ugly narrative of PDP will overtake the land. 
 
“Our score card is very rich and very rich enough. We must market the incredible accomplishments of Mr. President and of his administration to every voter and in a language he or she understands. 
 
”If we don’t market our product very well, a tough and progressive victory against a terrorist threat, which continues to cost the lives of our brave military and law enforcement agencies, will be mistaken for inaction. 
 
“If we don’t market our product very well, try our politically exposed offenders using long extant laws, which previous leaders were not willing to deploy against cronies, accomplishments will be mistaken for extra-judicial measures and disdain for the rule of law. 
 
“If we do not put Mr. President’s achievements before our people so that they can sight it themselves, we will be agreeing with the PDP that in fighting corruption, which he is offering again, is somehow better than the alleged incompetence of the APC which has accomplished everything I have enumerated above.” 
 
Bello, however, warned his party not to underrate the PDP in the election.

He said: “All that the crooked PDP is offering Nigerians is that corruption is better than incompetence in quote. 2015 was about change, 2019 will be about progress. 
 
“As members of the APC, we will not deny that our party has a huge task in the 2019 general elections; the election will never be a walk-over; the PDP will not be a push over. 
 
“And we must take nothing and no one for granted. If we cannot defeat PDP, maybe we should not be influencers or we should not even go to politics.” he said 
 
The President expressed disappointment that the media had not highlighted the massive achievements recorded by his administration in agriculture. 
 
He again challenged the PDP over the power generated after claiming to have spent $16billion, Buhari added: ”I’m very disappointed with the Nigerian press. They didn’t give this government the credit of the go-back-to-land programme. We have cut down the importation of rice by at least 90 per cent.” 
 
He said the country had achieved food security and remarked that he appointed Mr. Audu Ogbe as minister of agriculture because “he is somebody who has suffered in that sector. 
 
“Ogbeh went to a bank, borrowed money and invested in agriculture. He suffered but eventually he paid the money. So, you cannot have a better person (for the job).” 
 
Executive Director at the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Jasper Azuatalam, one of those hosted at the ceremony, said: “The worst thing we can do to this country, Nigeria, is to allow PDP to come back to power in 2019. It is the worst thing we can do to Nigeria. 
 
”I will liken PDP to a lion that has been put in the cage for a long time. I have interacted with their members and I know how hungry they have become because they don’t see free money as before. 
 
”If we loose this lion again in 2019, then Nigeria is going to walk more than 1,000 steps backward. 
 
”Like we always said in those days we lost elections, Mr. President will always get 11 to 12 million votes whether he operates from a party or not. That’s the goodwill we had that time. 
 
”But that is because a lot of people believed that by Mr. President’s integrity and his anti-corruption, he is going to do magic when he resumes office as President. That in two months, Nigeria will change. They don’t know how it would happen. 
 
”But the truth is that most of these have been disappointed because they didn’t see the magic. That is why we need to do the real work.”

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing , Babatunde Fashola , on Thursday , urged the people of South- West to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections to guarantee a return of power to the region in 2023. 
 
The minister stated this at a special town hall meeting on infrastructure organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency. 
 
The News Agency of Nigeria reports the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed led three other ministers including Fashola , Ministers of Transportation , Rotimi Amaechi and Water Resources , Suleiman Adamu to the town hall meeting. 
 
Fashola said besides , the massive investments by the Buhari administration on infrastructure across the country and in the South- West particularly, the region would benefit politically by voting for Buhari.

The minister , who spoke in Yoruba language said : “ Do you know that power is rotating to the South - West after the completion of Buhari ’ s tenure if you vote for him in 2019? 
 
“A vote for Buhari in 2019 , means a return of power to the South West in 2023 . I am sure you will vote wisely. ” 
 
On the performance of the Administration, Fashola said that the government had kept its promises to Nigerians in the three key areas of security, fighting corruption and rebuilding the economy. 
 
He said the essence of the town hall meeting was to showcase what the administration had done in three and half years.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen has said that any party to any dispute who desires peace should not approach the courts. 
 
Justice Onnoghen also said that arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution, are the true means by which parties to a dispute can get peace.

Justice Onnoghen made the statement on Thursday at the ongoing 2018 Annual Conference and Gala Nite of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Nigeria Branch. 
 
According to him, “Having experienced both sides of formal court system and the traditional arbitration, I can assure you and I want you to know that the judicial system is not designed to ensure peace. If you want peace, don’t go to courts.” 
 
He said the court does not provide peace to parties in dispute because, in court, “you are either right or wrong. 
 
We determine the rights, liabilities and responsibilities of parties. It is not designed to ensure peace.” 
 
He said parties in a dispute case who adopt settlements outside of courts follow “no formalities, you are free and when you are free, there is understanding.”</div>

The governor of Imo State Chief Rochas Okorocha, has said that the Acting National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu has sent out a very bad signal to the world. 
 
Okorocha reacting to Issa Onilu statement where he described some governors of the Party’s extraction as bad losers with regard to the Party’s Primaries said castigating governors who have made the party thick right from the outset was not the proper thing to do and that Onilu had sent out a very bad signal to the world. 
 
Okorocha in a statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo his Chief Press Secretary to the Governor ‘We have read in the media certain statements credited to the Acting National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, in which he described some governors of the Party’s extraction as bad losers with regard to the Party’s Primaries. He named Governor Okorocha as one of such bad losers, and never exercised caution in talking about the situations in the affected states. 
 
‘As the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mallam Onilu would have first and foremost appreciated the fact that both the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the governors are all partners in progress with regard to the fate of the Party. They are all major stakeholders who can at times disagree to agree. So, in handling issues concerning the National Chairman and the Governors, the Acting National Publicity Secretary would have struck a balance to avoid giving outsiders the impression that there is an on-going war between the Chairman and the Governors.

‘Again, castigating governors who have made the party thick right from the outset was not the proper thing to do. Someone else could do that but obviously not the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party. Even one member is important to the party talk more sitting governors. By his approach, Mallam Onilu had sent out a very bad signal to the world. 
 
On the issues he raised about Imo State especially concerning the governorship ticket of the Party, we only advice that he should endeavour to have the existing facts to avoid feeding the public with the wrong information, that may also cause problem in the State. 
 
‘The National Chairman himself had cancelled all that emanated from the Ahmed Gulak led 12-member Committee and then set up another 7-member Committee led by Brigadier-General Ibrahim Agbagbiaka to Conduct the Party’s Primaries in Imo. The Committee Conducted a very transparent governorship primary that saw Uche Nwosu emerging as the winner. 
 
‘The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party led by Comrade Oshiomhole equally set up an Appeal Panel headed by the Former Governor of Edo State Professor Oserheimen Osunbor. Some of the aggrieved Guber Aspirants in the State came up with their petitions. At the end of the day, the Prof. Osunbor Appeal Panel affirmed that Uche Nwosu is the authentic governorship Candidate of the party, having convincingly won the primary. 
 
‘Chief Hope Uzodinma went to Court over a primary he knew that never took place. The Court refused to grant him any order as requested but rather invited APC, INEC, etal, to come and explain why Uzodinma should not be granted the reliefs he had asked for. 
 
‘However, Uche Nwosu had earlier been granted orders by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory presided over by Hon. Justice V.A. Ashi restraining the Party, INEC and others, from accepting any other name as the governorship candidate of APC for Imo State except that of Uche Nwosu and also restrained them from substituting the name of Uche Nwosu. In other words, it is only Uche Nwosu who has valid Court Orders in favour of his Candidature, coupled with the report of the Prof. Osunbor Appeal Panel. But Chief Hope Uzodinma does not have any of these leverages. 
 
‘So, in the eyes of the law and in the eyes of the APC, Uche Nwosu is the Governorship Candidate of APC for Imo State and for the 2019 election. It does not matter the sentiments that could be held by any other interested party. Truth must be told and held. 
 
‘In the case of the National Assembly, the only worry by APC members in the State is the automatic tickets given to a Senator and three House of Representatives aspirants who claimed to have joined the party in Abuja few months ago. And these people given these automatic tickets know that they can never win election in Imo with the tickets of APC without the support of Governor Okorocha. 
 
‘We are also aware of all the claims and Counter-claims in Abuja by some Abuja based Politicians from the State. We are yet to know how anybody can win election in Imo on the platform of APC without Okorocha’s support. We won’t go further here. The inscription on one vehicle in Owerri is “time will tell”. 
 
‘So, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party should take up the issues we have raised here and prove us wrong. Then we take off from there. The National Chairman and the governors should be encouraged to work together in the overall interest of the Party, because by 2019 the issue will be election and APC victory and not who said what and who didn’t say what.’</div>

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Central senatorial district, Delta State, in the Senate, Thursday, declared that nobody would remove Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the party, saying: “We will resist it and it will fail.” 
 
Besides, he stated that Oshiomhole enjoys the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and power brokers in the Presidency, while a Reconciliation Committee comprising leaders of the party would soon move out to dialogue with those still upset over the outcome of the primaries. 
 
Senator Omo-Agege, who spoke to Vanguard amid report that stakeholders of the party in the South-South, the home base of Oshiomhole, have begun search for his replacement, dismissed the move. 
 
However, ex-APC presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, who spoke to journalists, confirmed the hunt for “an acceptable and mature candidate” to replace Oshiomhole.

Unagha asserted: “Gentlemen of the press, following the clarion call on the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshomhole to resign, we, APC stakeholders, in the South-South have commenced search for his replacement.” 
 
“Oshiomhole is no longer a saleable candidate, he is a bad product that cannot be hawked in the public market nor advertised. 
 
“Whether the position of the national chairman will still come from Edo State for now I do not know as the immediate past chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as well as the current chairman are all from Edo state 
 
“We are working within the time frame to come out with an acceptable and mature candidate that would savage the party and deliver it to victory in the 2019 general election. 
 
“We, the stakeholders wish to assure APC faithful across board that hope is not lost yet as the party will come out stronger and deliver President Muhammadu Buhari in the forth coming election. 
 
“We call on the national chairman to respect the wishes of the people by resigning since the clarion calls is also a no confidence vote on him. 
 
“We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to save the situation to relieve the chairman of the party so that he can face his corruption case or cases that are pending in courts. APC is a party of integrity and genuine change. APC is a party of integrity and genuine change,” Unagha stated. 
 
Dismissing Unagha, Senator Omo-Agege said: “I am not aware of any move to replace Oshiomhole and to the extent that there is any such move, it will fail. It will fail because I know that Oshiomhole enjoys the confidence of Mr. President, he enjoys the confidence of who is who in the Presidency.” 
 
“Yes there are lots of agitations and allegations flowing from the primaries. You will imagine that as a family that there are bound to be problems after the primary, it is the ability of the party to address the post-primary challenges that makes it strong or otherwise. 
 
“ I know that a Reconciliation Committee is about to be put in place and leaders are going to be reach out to those who are aggrieved, but I can tell you there is no legitimate move to go after Oshiomohle’s seat. 
 
“I repeat, to the extent that it is being contemplated, we will resist it and it will fail. We are talking seriously and you are talking about people who do not matter in the party. For the major stakeholders, there is nothing like that, we are satisfied with the stewardship of Comrade Oshiohole. 
 
“As I said earlier, yes there is bound to be agitation in every primary, it does not matter who is superintending over the primary, even if you bring an angel to conduct it, there will still be challenges, once again, it is the ability of Oshiomhole to rise above the post primary challenges and addresses it that matters. 
 
“But I can tell you any move from the South-South or anywhere to remove Oshiomhole from that seat will be resisted and it will fail,” he added.</div>

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday again took a swipe at his predecessors, saying they did little to increase passenger handling capacity or airport terminals since early 1980s. 
 
Buhari made the claim in his remarks at the inauguration of the new terminal of the Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa, River State. 
 
He said the neglect by successive governments couple with increase in the nation’s population made the airport terminals to become woefully inadequate to cater for the increase in passenger traffic. 
 
The President said it, therefore, became necessary for government to take decisive action to ensure the nation’s airport terminals meet minimum international standards for the travelling public.

He said the construction of four new international terminals at Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano airports was embarked upon by the Federal Government with a view to modernising the ageing airport infrastructure to meet global aviation standards. 
 
He said, “This ceremony represents a significant landmark for international air travellers, particularly from the South-South region, and the entire country. 
 
“You will recall that after opening the major airport terminals in the country in the late 70s and early 80s, not much was added to increase the passenger handling capacity of these facilities by successive administrations. 
 
“Following the large increase in national population with the consequent surge in air passenger traffic, the capacity of the airport terminals became woefully inadequate to cater for the increase in passenger traffic. 
 
“Although, palliative measures were periodically carried out, the facilities were fast giving-in to the effects of wear and tear. 
 
“It, therefore, became necessary to take decisive action to ensure our terminals meet minimum international standards for the travelling public. 
 
“The Federal Government responded to a global trend in which aviation became a catalyst for economic growth as a result of massive and speedy movement of persons, goods and services in a safe and secure manner. 
 
“As part of the infrastructure renewal program, the construction of four new international terminals at Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano airports was embarked upon by the Federal Government with a view to modernising the ageing airport infrastructure to meet global aviation standards and improved service delivery in tandem with best international practices.” 
 
Buhari recalled that the presentation of the 2017 Budget to the National Assembly, He promised to upgrade and develop Nigeria’s transport, power and health infrastructure, and complete a number of stalled infrastructure projects. 
 
These, he said, included construction of new terminals at the country’s five major airports; numerous major road projects; key power transmission projects; and the completion of the Kaduna – Abuja as well as Itakpe to Warri railway lines. 
 
He added that with Nigeria having an advantageous central location within the sub-region and government’s desire to develop into a regional air transportation hub, must upgrade its facilities to take advantage of its assets.</div>
