He assured that all votes cast would be properly recorded, transmitted and collated at the end of the day.<br /> <br /> On the general assessment of the election, Osaze-Uzzi said the voting process was generally peaceful and was in accordance with plan, except for the late commencement of poll in some few units. He added that the commission was, however, investigating the cause of such late commencement of voting in affected polling units.<br /> <br /> “Generally the election has been peaceful and we are very happy. The turnout look to me better than the last two previous governorship elections.” On the allegation that there was no election at Okpoko in Ogbaru and Umudim in Nnewi North council areas, Osaze-Uzzi said the matter was also being investigated by the commission with a view to find appropriate solution to the problem.<br /> <br /> “It is being investigated and I think it has to do with late arrival or shortage of materials. “The matter was resolved but a bit late.<br /> <br /> The community was saying we should reschedule the election in the affected unit to tomorrow, but we are looking at the best option,” he added. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Oseloka Obaze, had complained that poll did not take place in Okpoko in Ogbaru and Umudim in Nnewi North council areas of the state.(NAN)

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Governor Willie Obiano scored 11 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Tony Nwoye scored five votes.<br /> <br /> Addressing newsmen after voting, Obaze said: “I ran hard for this campaign and I ran to win. I’m confident that if our people have voted and there is no tampering with the process and there are no illegalities in the processing of the balloting and coalition, then we should win this election fairly at the end of the day.<br /> <br /> “We’re confident that we’ll win this election, no question about that. One is the people voting based on their conscience, the other is for and INEC and its agents to follow the process and render the results accordingly.”<br /> <br /> Shouts of “OHO!!!” “OHO!!!”, the initials of his name, rented the air as his supporters welcomed him to the unit. Some called Obaze “our governor” as, accompanied by wife, he smiled and waved to the villagers, observers and journalists.<br /> <br /> Before his arrival, there were doubts as to whether he would not vote as information filtered in that other candidates had voted earlier. Journalists had been waiting for his arrival since 10am.<br /> <br /> On why he voted late, he said: “I chose to wait till towards the end rather voting early. I’ve been busy monitoring the situation in the state. Evidently there seems to be a low voter turnout. I don’t know the cause of the apathy.<br /> <br /> “You can explain low voter turnout in the city because people might have travelled to their villages to vote. But we don’t know why the turnout has been that low.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> “There seems to be a mixed process. I heard that in Okpoko and Umudim in Nnewi there were no voting going on. By and large the feedback I get is that everything has been peaceful which is very gratifying.”<br /> <br /> Obaze said he heard about allegations of vote buying multiple thumb printing, adding: “It is the responsibility of INEC to monitor that. But I can tell you we are not involved in that in any way.<br /> <br /> “We campaigned vigorously; we’re not interested in buying votes. People voted for us because they believe in our mission. Those who bought votes did so because they lacked confidence that people would vote for them.<br /> <br /> “I’ve heard allegations that in Okacha in Aniocha and Amaobia there were people arrested for multiple thumb printing, but these are mere allegations. It’s meant for law enforcement agencies to investigate them.”<br /> <br /> He said he would come to a conclusion about the election’s credibility when he gets reports of both local and international observers and party agents.<br /> <br /> “A combination of factors will lead us to conclude that the election is credible. Those will depend on what we hear from international observers and from our field reports. My situation room will brief me before we make that assessment.<br /> <br /> “I have always said federal agencies have a responsibility to meet their statutory obligation. Same with INEC. I don’t want to question anybody.. It is for the people to say if they have met that obligation and if they passed the litmus test of their responsibility and as it relates to law and order.”<br /> <br /> Asked if he was concerned about federal might, he said: “I know the ruling party will be inclined to see that their candidate wins, but I cannot derogate the Federal Government to say they’ve been unfair or biased because I don’t have the basis for that yet.<br /> <br /> “It’s when we get in the field report and we see that something untoward happened that we would speak to that effect,” he said.

We slept in open halls and were exposed to mosquitoes.<br /> <br /> “The treatment they have given us so far is like that given to a leper. They urged the people to come en masse on Saturday (today) and protest against the veteran leader.<br /> <br /> According to News24, the leader of the war veterans, Chris Mutsvangwa, said on Friday that the president would not be allowed to remain in power.<br /> <br /> He said, “Between now and tomorrow, we are giving a very stark warning to Mugabe, his wife and anyone who wants to be associated with him that the game is up – finished.<br /> <br /> “We are appealing to all Zimbabweans to come tomorrow (Saturday) for the biggest, largest turnout by the Zimbabwean population so we finish the job the army has started.”<br /> <br /> The protest, which was already gathering momentum as of Friday evening, was billed to start from the Freedom Square, Harare by 10 am.<br /> <br /> Expressing support for the protest, the main opposition party in the country, the Movement for Democratic Change, also said the military takeover “resonated with the national public sentiments and hence irreversible in effect and fact.”<br /> <br /> A former minister and liberation war veteran, Dumiso Dabengwa, said he congratulated the Zimbabwean military on “the initiative they took to block the rise” of Grace (Mugabe).<br /> <br /> Similarly, Botswana President, Ian Khama, said on Friday that Mugabe should end his attempts to remain in office after the military takeover, as he has no regional diplomatic support to stay in power.<br /> <br /> “The military intervention presents an opportunity to put Zimbabwe on a path to peace and prosperity,” Khama told Reuters.<br /> <br /> “I don’t think anyone should be President for that length of time. We are presidents, we are not monarchs. The regulator is Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and it is an agency that should act independently.<br /> <br /> “What is the business of the Minister of Communication with your cell phone,” he asked.<br /> <br /> He encouraged members of the public to blow the whistle on energy thieves, noting that this would help the Discos in the discharge of their function.<br /> <br /> “NERC is working on metering regulation, the power sector has been privatised, but it is a largely regulated sector by NERC.<br /> <br /> “And so, for you to do anything, you must follow regulations,” he said.<br /> <br /> The Minister said that NERC was currently working on mini grids, deregulation of eligible customers and were waiting for the regulation of metering.<br /> <br /> “Everybody assumes that Discos would supply meters, Discos do not have the capital to do so and their work is not really meter supply, their work is power supply.<br /> <br /> “They need the meter just to measure and to bill us.<br /> <br /> “So the regulation that are coming now would open metering to private sector people who would either come and serve as private meter service providers or meter franchise holders,” he said.<br /> <br /> He said that the market was evolving for people and investors to choose to either be franchise holders or service providers for community metering.<br /> <br /> Fashola said that there were several logistic problems associated with ongoing audit of houses to capture them in the right metering category.<br /> <br /> He added that when the privatisation of the sector was earlier done there were only about 6.5 million houses on the data base which showed that some people consumed electricity without payment.
