Despite being served with the Order and several follow-ups, the leadership of INEC has refused to grant the PDP and Atiku Abubakar access to the materials and documents, notwithstanding the urgency of the matter.<br /> <br /> This action by the leadership of INEC has further exposed that it has been heavily compromised by the Buhari Presidency to rig the February 23, 2019 Presidential election and to frustrate the quest by Nigerians to reclaim the mandate from President Muhammadu Buhari and save the nation from the crisis of an illegitimate government. 9th Assembly leadership: Buhari to operate within constitutional limits — Enang The leadership of INEC and the APC are seeking to frustrate our court option, seeing that the documents and materials will expressly show that Atiku Abubakar clearly won the election by the votes directly delivered at the polling units across the country as well as expose how the commission and the Buhari Presidency manipulated the results for President Buhari.<br /> <br /> The PDP cautions the INEC to note that Nigerians are now aware of its manipulative tendencies and that any further delay in granting access to the materials might attract public odium. INEC should therefore end its unpatriotic partisan shenanigans with the APC and immediately obey the Court of Appeal and grant the PDP and Atiku Abubakar access to the documents and materials and free itself from unholy entanglement with the APC against Nigerians.”

In the latest attack which was confirmed by the member representing the area in the national assembly as well as the PDP deputy governorship candidate in the just concluded election, Marshal Katung, about 30 houses were also reported to have been burnt down by the bandits.<br /> <br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a>This attack marks an escalation in attacks on many communities in Kaduna South senatorial district, especially in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state where more than hundred lives have been lost in the last one week.<br /> <br /> It was gathered that a large number of the assailants descended on Nandu -Gbok at about 4:00am on Saturday, armed with guns, machetes and sticks and started shooting sporadically on arrival to the community. “We were woken up by heavy gunshots.<br /> <br /> There was confusion, everybody was running to the bush. They set houses ablaze. Ten people were killed, some people were burnt to death, many others were injured, some people are still missing” one villager told journalists on phone. Hon. Shehu Nicholas Garba, member of House of Representatives, representing Sanga/Jama’a federal constituency in the national assembly condemned the attack and called for urgent steps to protect the people.<br /> <br /> “We woke up this morning to the sad news of an attack by gunmen on Nandu Gbok, a community in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State. “About 10 bodies have been recovered and about 30 Houses confirmed burnt down. “That the latest attack is coming while we are mourning and trying to deal with the devastating massacre wrought on the Adara People (in Kajuru LGA) has, once again, brought to the fore the plight of the indigenous people of Southern Kaduna” the law maker said in the statement. In his reaction, the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in the recently concluded elections, Marshal Katung blamed the incessant killings in the area on government failure. He said “these attacks/Crisess are becoming one too many.<br /> <br /> I am greatly disturbed at the scale and magnitude of destruction of lives and property that has been going on unabated with very little action by the Government. “When the crises broke out in Kajuru three weeks ago, we expressed sadness at the comments of our State Government, warning that it could trigger a circle of violence.<br /> <br /> For as long as government does not treat it’s citizens with justice, equity and fairness, this unfortunate situation will continue. “Government should note that lives of our citizens, irrespective of demographic, ethnic or religious persuasion, should be sacred and should not be sacrificed on the alter of politics of deliberate exclusion.<br /> <br /> The victims are beginning to ask: Do we still have a functional and responsive government? May God grant strength and fortitude to those that have lost loved ones.” As usual, the Kaduna state Police Public Relations officer, Yakubu Sabo Abubakar, did not respond to calls or messages sent to his phone to confirm the incident as at the time of filling this report.

An audio recording about his removal appeared online some two weeks ago, sparking speculation as to whether he was still alive or dead.<br /> <br /> Three sources told AFP last week that Al-Barnawi had been deposed. The regional military force fighting the jihadists in northeast Nigeria has also acknowledged the development. Colonel Timothy Antigha, spokesman for the N’Djamena-based Multinational Joint Task Force, said the change of leadership was the result of an “internal crisis”. “The Islamic State West Africa Province announced the sack of Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi and the appointment of Abu Abdullahi Ibn Umar Albarnawi,” he added in a statement.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> One source with knowledge of the group’s activities told AFP the deposed leader was now “in the custody of the new leadership”. “It was a bloodless coup. They made him abdicate and put him in detention,” said the source, who asked not to be identified for his personal safety.<br /> <br /> – Top level meeting –<br /> <br /> ISWAP commanders met on February 28 in Kwalaram, one of the group’s camps in the Lake Chad area, where they took a unanimous decision to replace Al-Barnawi. The source said they accused him of having close links with more moderate jihadists in Mali. The Kwalaram meeting was attended by all ISWAP commanders, who came in speedboats from different camps on and around the vast freshwater lake. A second source said the meeting was convened to prevent dissent in the ranks.<br /> <br /> “They have not killed him, they only put him in detention as their aim was only to get him out of the way,” he said. “He is still being held and it is unlikely they will harm him for now.” ISWAP’s new leadership was wary about the emergence of a splinter group of fighters loyal to Al-Barnawi if he were executed, said the second source. Al-Barnawi, who is in his mid-20s, is the son of Boko Haram’s founder Muhammad Yusuf and enjoyed special recognition among followers.<br /> <br /> Killing him could cause disaffection and be seen as a betrayal of Yusuf, who is still venerated by all Boko Haram factions, including that led by his one-time deputy, Abubakar Shekau. “The new leadership knows the possible consequence of killing Al-Barnawi as they did to Mamman Nur,” a third source said, referring to the deposed ISWAP head’s number two. If another breakaway faction appeared, Al-Barnawi’s life would be in danger, the first source warned. IS recognised Barnawi as head of ISWAP after a split from Shekau in mid-2016 over the latter’s indiscriminate violence against civilians.<br /> <br /> – Edged out –<br /> <br /> ISWAP, which has been blamed for or claimed a spate of attacks against the Nigerian military in recent months, went through internal turmoil after the execution of Mamman Nur last year. Nur, a former Yusuf confidant, was the mastermind of the 2011 bombing of the UN building in Abuja that killed 26 and was widely seen as de facto head of ISWAP.<br /> <br /> He was killed in August last year after more radical fighters accused him of pocketing an alleged ransom for the release of more than 100 schoolgirls from the Yobe town of Dapchi. They were also angry with Nur’s more moderate approach and back-channel talks with Nigeria’s government, which is seeking an end to the conflict after nearly 10 years and an estimated 27,000 deaths.<br /> <br /> The new leadership saw Al-Barnawi as a continuation of Nur’s softer approach and decided to edge him out, the third source said. “Killing Al-Barnawi is not on the table, just as killing Nur was not on the table before the ransom disagreement,” the source said. “But everything can change depending on the fallout of the leadership change.”<br /> <br /> (AFP)

This is very unfortunate and disheartening.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ But , we must give glory to the Almighty that no life was lost in the incident.<br /> <br /> <br /> “ I have directed the relevant agencies to ensure that all the victims are transferred to government hospitals and given immediate medical attention at no cost to them, ” he said.<br /> <br /> <br /> The governor commended the rescue team for their prompt intervention which led to the evacuation of the victims without recording any fatality.<br /> <br /> <br /> He said that thorough investigation would be carried out by the government to determine the immediate and remote cause of the collapse.<br /> <br /> <br /> Ajimobi said that anybody found culpable from the investigation would be dealt with in accordance with the law .<br /> <br /> <br /> It was gathered that a delegation of the state government led by the State Commissioner for Health , Dr Azeez Adeduntan , also visited a victim at the University College Hospital , Ibadan.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> <br /> Friday’ s building collapse in Ibadan came barely 72 hours after a similar incident in Lagos , in which no fewer than 20 persons , including school children , died.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ( NAN)

Buba Marwa and former Deputy Governor of Plateau State , Pauline Tallen, among others.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ( NAN)

The team was able to rescue the two victims trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building as three were initially rescued manually and no fatality was recorded in the rescue operation which ended 3.45am today.”<br /> <br /> The Government spokesperson further said that an investigation into the incident will be carried out by the relevant agencies while admonishing building construction practitioners to desist from cutting corners and using cheap materials.

Subsequently, the commission set up a fact-finding committee to assess the situation and report back within 48 hours.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> “The commission met on March 15, 2019, and considered the report of the committee and established that the governorship and State Assembly elections took place in most of the polling units and results were announced.<br /> <br /> “The results from 17 Local Governments out of 23 are available and are in the commission’s custody. The declaration and returns for 21 State constituencies out of 32 were made prior to the suspension.<br /> <br /> “Collation centres were invaded by some soldiers and armed gangs resulting in the intimidation and unlawful arrest of election officials thereby disrupting the collation process.<br /> <br /> “Consequent upon the foregoing, the commission expresses its displeasure with the role played by some soldiers and armed gangs in Rivers State disrupting the collation process and attempting to subvert the will of the people.<br /> <br /> “The commission is committed to expeditious completion of the collation process where results of the elections have been announced. She was seen moving from one corner of the Lagos Island General Hospital to the other in search of the prescribed drugs and other needs demanded by the doctors. Rokibat is seven years old. Their mother could not come to the hospital because the death of Qawiat is taking its toll on her. She is traumatised and not feeling well. I left her in care of my relatives and friends to come and stay with Rokibat, who is injured,” Olawusi said.<br /> <br /> According to him, Qawiat must have died of shock. “When they brought out her remains, there were no signs of injury on her body. She must have died of shock. I carried her, checked all her body, I couldn’t find any part of her body injured. We buried her this (yesterday) morning. It is a sad experience for parents to bury their child after years of suffering from her birth to that age.”<br /> <br /> The three-year-old son of Mr Saheed Owolabi, an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Ayomide, survived the incident.<br /> <br /> Owolabi said despite his child’s cry that he did not want to go to that school anymore, he forcefully took him to the school that fateful day.<br /> <br /> He said: “What would I have told the world if he had died? That I forced my son to attend school the day the incident took place despite his refusal to go. My son insisted that day that he was not going to school. He said his teacher, Esther Ifeanyi, who was the owner of the school, used to beat him. Ayomide’s mother usually takes him to school, but when he was crying, I told his mother to leave. I carried him, promised to buy him biscuits. At the school, I spoke with his teacher and she promised not to beat him again. On my way downstairs, I looked back, my son was moody. He has not been that way before, so I promised to come and pick him from school.<br /> <br /> “I went to work. It was around 10am that my wife called me that my son’s school building had collapsed. I was shocked. I ran to the school. When he was brought out, he sustained injuries on his head, eyes and cheeks. It was later that I learnt the school building had been marked for demolition. My son had been in the school since last year.”<br /> <br /> Ronke Pedro told newsmen that she lost her brother.<br /> <br /> “Our 97-year-old grandmother was also affected, but she is receiving treatment at the General Hospital. My brother, Kazeem, who is 37, died. They brought out his bodies around 3pm ,” she said.<br /> <br /> She blamed the government for not demolishing the building after it was marked twice for demolition.<br /> <br /> “Government should ensure those buildings that failed integrity tests are demolished. We lost a lot of lives here; many of them are our children. There are many other buildings on Lagos Island that have been marked for demolition but they are being repainted. We need to put a stop to this insensitive attitude that is killing us,” Pedro said.<br /> <br /> Another survivor, Khalid Amoo, received a cap from Lagos State Governor-elect Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday when he visited the survivors with the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the hospital.<br /> <br /> Sanwo-Olu, Amoo’s aunt said, removed his cap and put it on the boy’s head.<br /> <br /> She said he prayed for him that he would grow up to be a governor.<br /> <br /> Lagos State Commissioner for Health Dr. Jide Idris revealed last night that the death toll had increased from 18 to 20.<br /> <br /> “The last person that was brought out of the rubble around 3am was dead,” he said.<br /> <br /> Idris said 42 survivors were being treated in six hospitals.<br /> <br /> “We have some at Onikan, Massey Street Children Hospital four were referred to Gbagada General Hospital, eight were taken to LASUTH and one in LUTH. They are all responding well to treatment,” he said.<br /> <br /> A building opposite the collapsed building was demolished yesterday.<br /> <br /> Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area Chairman Mr Kamal Salau-Bashua, who supervised the demolition, said the building failed the integrity test.<br /> <br /> He urged residents to give information on buildings with defects.<br /> <br /> National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director (Search and Rescue) Air Commodore Akugbe Iyamu was at the scene yesterday.<br /> <br /> He visited the General Hospital to commiserate with the victims, their families and the State Government.<br /> <br /> He assured the relations of the victims that the Federal Government was working with state officials on how to assist them.<br /> <br />

He did not give further details on the matter.<br /> <br /> “I have confirmed that they have filed the application. It’s an ex-parte motion, just like the one by the PDP,” he said.<br /> <br /> Multiple sources within the Court of Appeal, which hears presidential election petitions, confirmed to this newspaper Thursday evening that a three-member panel led by Abdul Aboki heard the application and granted same.<br /> <br /> “They are two applications, one by President Buhari and the other by the APC,” said one of the sources.<br /> <br /> The tribunal had granted a similar request by the PDP to allow it inspect documents used for the compilation of the presidential results.<br /> <br /> In the application filed by the PDP through its lawyer, Chris Uche, the court asked the panel to allow it inspect the materials and conduct forensic investigations on same.

I was not there because INEC has removed my name from the list of elected senators, having been declared the winner by the zonal returning officer.I am actually waiting to hear why INEC struck my name out,” he said.<br /> <br /> “I think probably, INEC must be trying to do something special, because I understand that once results have been declared and returns made, then you are bound to be issued a certificate of return.”<br /> <br /> He added that he was however, in the dark as to why the commission exempted him from the ceremony and why he was not invited to collect his certificate of return.<br /> <br /> The governor also denied that the returning officer was compelled to manipulate the outcome of the election.<br /> <br /> “Maybe, INEC will want to organise a special programme for me to hand over the certificate of return to me, because clearly, I won and it was a peaceful election, the best you can ever think of,” he said.<br /> <br /> “How can you put somebody on duress to declare you the winner of an election that you have already won? It is not true, but I must let the world understand that this is a game that is being played.<br /> <br /> “The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo is playing a script, and the script is so funny, it is so cruel and crude actually and they are executing it in a funny way. I understand that people are beginning to fight a war of the future now when we are not even yet there.<br /> <br /> “The idea is that, do not give Okorocha a certificate; you must slow him down until after they have elected the presiding officer, then you can let him come in.”<br /> <br /> “Those behind the plot, are however, not smart in executing the project to rig me and my son in-law who is the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) Uche Nwosu out,” he said.<br /> <br /> Okorocha criticised INEC’s declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Emeka Ihedioha as Imo Governor-elect, saying he fell short of the criteria.<br /> <br /> He alleged that Ihedioha did not have the needed spread of 25 per cent votes across the Local Government Areas of the state as required by law to emerge winner.<br /> <br /> He stressed that the PDP candidate could,therefore not be declared winner of the poll.<br /> <br /> He added that the idea is to also ensure that he does not become anything in the Senate and to make sure that his governorship candidate, who is his son in-law does not emerge winner.<br /> <br /> Okorocha further added that his political opponents wanted to cripple him politically before 2023, saying that this is what is happening.<br /> <br /> “I will advise INEC to do the right thing, to release my certificate so that I can celebrate as others, I want to be in the Senate, and it will be interesting if am there,” Okorocha said.<br /> <br /> He said INEC should not allow his political opponents to use it as an instrument to achieve their desires.(NAN)

It is important that we are not seen as Ijebu governor. We won in Abeokuta South and Obafemi Owode. That, to me, shows that the Egbas are solidly behind us. Kabiyesi, we appreciate you. Every vote given to me is a referendum; a vote of confidence. However, both Nigerians and the international community saw how security agents served as aides to members of the APC as they walked freely to the polling centres.<br /> <br /> “That is what they are now planning to do on March 23. Some governors of the APC met with President Muhammadu Buhari this week. We know the issues discussed at the secret meeting.<br /> <br /> “This was why none of those at the meeting was ready to brief journalists afterwards. They are planning to harrass voters, using the military, especially the army and the DSS, in the affected polling units and thereby take the states by force.<br /> <br /> “We will not allow this to happen. We will not surrender the mandates that were freely given to us by Nigerians to the enemies of democracy in the country.<br /> <br /> “INEC, the APC and the Federal Government knew that we won in almost all the six states, but because it would be glaring that we were robbed of victory, they are now calling for rerun elections.”<br /> <br /> The PDP chairman said it was sad that members of the ruling party were not thinking of the economic and social implications of not allowing free and fair elections in the country.<br /> <br /> “Actions of the government and even the damage the military has done to the image of this country in the last few days will take years to rebuild. It is a colossal loss to the nation,” he added.

This is why we have peace in Imo State.<br /> <br /> “The returning officer could not have done that under duress under the watchful eyes of the police, the DSS (the Department of State Services) and party agents.<br /> <br /> “I am not unmindful of the facts that those who are fighting me from Abuja are anxious to see me removed as a senator. I urge INEC to do the right thing immediately by releasing my certificate.”<br /> <br /> The governor said he was not fighting anybody and those who were fighting him would fail.<br /> <br /> He added, “My INEC certificate cannot be touched or seized. Doing so is belittling democracy in Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “It is only the tribunal that has the right to say otherwise once a result is declared.<br /> <br /> “INEC cannot seize my certificate because of a mere petition written by somebody in a case I was not given the opportunity to present my own side of the story.”<br /> <br /> Okorocha also described the governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state as “a sham and a mockery of democracy.”<br /> <br /> He said he had lost confidence in the nation’s democracy.<br /> <br /> He accused INEC of complicity in the conduct of the polls.<br /> <br /> He insisted that the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu, won the governorship election and had the required spread of 25 per cent in 21 out of the 27 local governments in the state.<br /> <br /> The governor said, “It is obvious that INEC in Imo State is not guaranteeing us free, fair and credible elections.<br /> <br /> “Uche Nwosu, the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance actually won the election, but INEC criminally disbanded electoral officers of the commission and introduced people from Abia College of Agriculture who arrived the state midnight.<br /> <br /> “They brought people they had been training for weeks in Anambra before the elections.”

I want to quickly let Lagosians know that this is quite an unfortunate incident. All we are trying to do is to scale up this rescue operation. Our response units are already here; we are getting additional cranes to be able to go deeper than where we are now to rescue more lives,” the governor said.<br /> <br /> “I just want to appeal to people that when we are doing this kind of rescue operation, yes, sympathizers will naturally come but I want to appeal that they should give the rescue workers the chance to save more lives.<br /> <br /> Ambode addressing the media at the scene<br /> <br /> “All we are interested in now is to save more lives and also see how those that have been rescued are put in proper place and proper care.<br /> <br /> “So far, from what I have been briefed, we have rescued about 25 people and some already dead but we were earlier informed that it was a school, the building is not technically a school, it is a residential building that was actually accommodating an illegal school so to speak on the second floor.”<br /> <br /> Ambode said the school was operating illegally in the premises and that a full scale investigation would be carried out immediately rescue operations are concluded. He also vowing that those found culpable would be severely dealt with in accordance with the relevant laws.
