Acccording to Kalu : “ Buhari himself is not even looking for automatic ticket. Buhari is a man that is very fair and free to what he does.<br /> <br /> And his feeling is that if any candidate is willing to contest against him, he should come to the Eagle Square. “ And some schools of thought are saying ‘no, if in the United State, Obama was given automatic ticket. President Bush in Republican Party was given automatic ticket. President Clinton was given automatic ticket. The First and Second Bush were given automatic ticket. “ So President Buhari is also feeling that automatic ticket for him is not right. He said open the space for other people who also want to contest.<br /> <br /> He want the openness of the primary to take place. He further said : “ The contest should be thrown open. There would be no rancour. We are in democracy and I would vote for the President.<br /> <br /> <br /> I’ve said it times without number, that the President needs to consolidate on his achievements because most parts of President because the President is very popular. He is still the only person carrying 12 million votes in his back.” his tenure have been besieged by illness. How can they bounce back when we gave them our treasury, they opened and looted it.<br /> <br /> “We would call names if they want to us to call names in future. All the World Powers knew what happened and this is why they tactically insisted that PDP must leave power. PDP committed what was very shameful to have been seen in a democratic process.<br /> <br /> There is no system that is not with corruption but going to loot is an affront to Nigerian people. “They opened the treasury and looted the treasury. President Buhari having been restrained by some World Powers not to open up what happened in the NNPC. If Nigerians know what happened in NNPC, those people would not pass this airport, people would not leave them. What they did is what hear and eyes should not even hear.<br /> <br /> How can they come back? They will definitely go to oblivion, they would never win election again in Nigeria unless they changed their name.” Kalu was however , reluctant to comment on the resignation of the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), saying, if he had the opportunity of advising him, he would have asked him to remain to rebuild the APC.<br /> <br /> On Atiku he said : “ To be honest with you, Atiku was my boss and he is still my boss. And I hardly don’t want to discuss Atiku Abubakar. You know he is very close to me. The question you are asking me is a lot of task but I wish him well. If I was to advise him before he leaves, I would say, ‘don’t leave. Let us build a large team together.’ If he wanted to contest against the President, it would be open at the Eagle Square.<br /> <br /> If he wins, we would support him. “ If the President wins, we would support the President. But running from one party, you remember I am the only Nigerian since democratic process who has been in only two parties. I have been in PPA and PDP. I didn’t run back and forward. No I was in opposition since 2006 that I was deregistered in PDP. I’ve been in opposition until 16th of November last year when I joined the APC. “It is not every election year we would go and form a new political party. It doesn’t entrench our democratic process.<br /> <br /> I am feeling it and I am seeing it that it is not the right thing to do, what are we going to teach the younger ones? “ .He said Buhari was gaining popularity and acceptance in the South East, as many leaders of thought are now seeing him in a different light . Kalu explained “ Even in the South East where he didn’t do well, I’m just come from the South East. President Buhari is making a lot of inroads. So why don’t Nigerians embrace this man who is saying I might be slow but do things through the due process.<br /> <br /> “I’ve spoken to some Catholic Bishops, Priests and some Anglican Bishops and some priests in Presbyterian Church who used to sit with me and criticised the President. They are now telling me, no we don’t know the President is this kind of person. “So I have been in the South East for the past two weeks. I have been there from election till now.<br /> <br /> “ So I know the mentality of our people now and they are going to vote for the man. Whether is PDP, APC or APGA, all of them are going to vote for the man. You can see Governor Umahi of Ebonyi has already endorsed the President for second term. Whether Obiano (Anambra Governor) is crossing over to APC or PDP, he would definitely endorse the president. So the President has support in the region.”

The reports emanated from the investigation conducted by two Presidential Investigative Committees set up by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br /> <br /> “We need to put the issues in correct perspective. The President raised a Presidential Investigative Committee on $2.1billion Arms Procurement, which was headed by AVM Jon Ode. Also, another Presidential Investigative Committee was led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on the $43.4million recovered from a flat at Osborne Towers.<br /> <br /> “After perusing the reports, the presidency mandated the EFCC to do follow-up investigations based on the findings of the two committees.<br /> <br /> “It is not as if the EFCC is going outside the mandate from the presidency.”<br /> <br /> But Department of State Security Services (DSS), some top government officials and members of the kitchen cabinet of the President were allegedly opposed to the arrest of the two former intelligence chiefs.<br /> <br /> A government official said: “No one is saying any corrupt person should be spared. I think what some of us detested is the way the EFCC was going about it as if Ekpenyong and Oke are criminals. These are intelligence officers who paid their dues while in service. Their integrity should be preserved pending the conclusion of investigation.<br /> <br /> “It is on record that the two affected intelligence chiefs have cooperated with the EFCC so far. In fact, the EFCC has secured the permanent forfeiture of the $43.4million cash seized from Osborne Towers in Ikoyi. The DSS and some of us in government are only calling for decorum in managing their cases.<br /> <br /> “For instance, Oke single-handedly coordinated the negotiation for the repatriation of the loot traced to the family of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha while in the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom. It was a major success recorded by the administration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.<br /> <br /> “Since the government of Buhari came on board, Oke had assisted EFCC through the NIA structure in wielding diplomatic and intelligence influence to track looted funds in jurisdictions outside Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “The same man raised the bar of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to international standards with world class facilities. All the contracts were awarded to Julius Berger without Oke being a member of the NIA Tenders Board. And payments for all contracts were effected directly to the contractor.<br /> <br /> “I really do not think that Oke deserves any form of humiliation. He was the only security chief who wrote a dissenting report predicting that Jonathan will lose the 2015 general elections. This was even before the poll.<br /> <br /> “On Ekpenyong, he personally made his residential address available to EFCC in order to deliver a letter of invitation. What would have informed his arrest.<br /> <br /> “We even learnt that he was so prudent that he left some money in billions in the account of the DSS. It is left to the EFCC to ascertain this claim.”<br /> <br />

He said: “We introduced this programme in 2012 and we have so far trained 28,000 students.<br /> <br />  We are inculcating the spirit of unity, team work, hardworking in the lives of the students through Calisthenics. We are preparing them for a world beyond here.”<br /> <br /> The governor, who praised parents for their support for the programme, said the parents willingly bought the costumes for the students this year. He explained that the prizes given to the participants were to develop sporting facilities in their various schools. Osun Central senatorial district won the firs prize of N2 million while Osun West came second with a prize of N1 million.

But he would have to reach out to our boss, Baba OBJ, the boss of all bosses. We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore OBJ at your peril. OBJ has the magic wand. He is respected at home and abroad.”<br /> <br /> It was however unclear if Atiku has either accepted the condition or opted to go it alone in seeking the presidential mandate of the PDP.<br /> <br /> But some presidential aspirants in PDP were said not to be ready to step down for Atiku, whom Jonathan is working to the answer for.<br /> <br /> The aspirants said they prefer to slug it out with Atiku during the presidential primaries.<br /> <br /> The affected aspirants are ex-Governor Sule Lamido, ex-Minister Ibrahim Shekarau, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo and a former governor (now a Senator), who is expected to defect from APC to PDP.<br /> <br /> The fate of the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of PDP, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi on the party’s 2019 ticket was hanging in the balance as at press time.<br /> <br /> Findings by our source revealed that the secret deal, which made Atiku to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was comprehensive and targeted at the ex-VP securing the PDP presidential slot.<br /> <br /> It was gathered that the package also borders on hijacking the party structure at the National Convention on December 9 to make Atiku’s choice as the PDP presidential candidate a reality.<br /> <br /> Following lobbying by Jonathan, some founding fathers of PDP (including a few retired military officers), have been part of the latest course in PDP.<br /> <br /> Investigation revealed that most governors of the PDP were said to have bought into the Atiku project in deference to Jonathan.<br /> <br /> A top source, who was privy to the deal, said: “The unfolding script on Atiku’s return to PDP has the blessing of some founding fathers of PDP who are out to salvage the party. A major component is a likely waiver for the ex-VP to contest the party’s presidential primaries.<br /> <br /> “So far, Atiku is complying with the secret accord for his return to PDP. A formal declaration in Yola is being expected either on Wednesday or December 6 as indicated in a tentative timetable.<br /> <br /> “But in one of the negotiation shuttles with Atiku, ex-President Jonathan added a caveat that the former Vice President can comfortably secure PDP ticket and win the 2019 poll if he begs ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.<br /> <br /> “We were all shocked by this condition because Obasanjo is no longer in partisan politics. But Jonathan said Obasanjo is an institution whose action or inaction could make or mar the electoral fortunes of Atiku.<br /> <br /> “The former President also believes that Obasanjo may persuade any of the presidential aspirants to withdraw for Atiku after weighing all the indices. He said if Obasanjo could reconcile with him, he can also forgive Atiku.<br /> <br /> “As a matter of fact, Jonathan cited cases of chairmanship aspirants in PDP travelling to Abeokuta to seek his blessing.<br /> <br /> “We are expecting Atiku to comply with this proviso because we want to begin the media war (based on facts and figures) in earnest.<br /> <br /> “Jonathan’s position on Obasanjo has been endorsed by some founding fathers of PDP, especially the military class which contrived the existence of the party.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, there were indications yesterday that some presidential aspirants in the PDP may not step down for Atiku.<br /> <br /> These include Lamido, Shekarau, Dankwambo and a former governor (now a Senator), who is expected to defect from APC to PDP.<br /> <br /> It was not clear if the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of PDP, Sen. Anybody that runs foul of the law will answer for it. We will strengthen the war in due course. You don’t need a national debate to fight corruption. You just need to crack down on corrupt people with fear of favour. We will strengthen the war and fight it at all levels.”<br /> <br /> President Buhari said the major task of his government is to make an enduring impact on the life of Nigerians, adding that it is unfortunate that for many decades, “we paid lip service to diversifying the economy.<br /> <br /> “But we merely succeeded in turning ourselves into a mono economy. And when oil price crashed, we simply crashed with it as a nation. It should never happen again, and that is why we are focused on Agriculture, mines and steel development, as well as manufacturing. We will lay a solid foundation and build on it. That is our goal, and Nigeria and the international community can count on our single mindedness as an administration. That shows you that it has already factored in many things. This time of parlous economic reality is not the right time to send more people into the Labour market, this is a government with a human face.<br /> <br /> “The human being is the Centre of our universe. We met a monthly wage bill of the public service at about N165 billion. It is very easy to say downsize. But rather, we preferred to audit the system and scores of thousands of ghost workers have been discovered in the process.<br /> <br /> “We saved more than N20 billion which has reduced the monthly wage bill significantly. The statement issued today by Barrister Abdulahi Jalo, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and a well known close ally of Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi confirming the presidential ambition of the PDP Caretaker Chairman has basically reinforced the fears that Mr. Makarfi is not a neutral arbiter in the processes that will midwife a new leadership for our party.<br /> <br /> “I want to make it absolutely clear that if Mr. Makarfi is an honourable man, he will voluntarily resign his position without waiting to be pushed out.<br /> <br /> The game plan of Mr. Makarfi is simply to handover the party administration to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State through his planted agent and acolyte Mr. Uche Secondus. In this grand scheme to compromise the national convention, Secondus and Wike will equally do a pay back by rigging the presidential primary to favour Makarfi.<br /> <br /> “This is indeed a road to perdition and the ultimate destruction of PDP. Any attempt to distort the process and force upon us a discredited and dubious leadership will provoke a mass decamping of the Yoruba people from the PDP. We will never play a second fiddle to anyone.<br /> <br /> “The Yoruba will never accept any attempt to insult our people and denigrate our collective intelligence. The only way out now is for Makarfi and his entire Caretaker Committee members to resign immediately. They cannot be trusted. Once the head is rotten, the whole body is subsequently vitiated, corrupted and dishonored.<br /> <br /> “We are absolutely clear in our demand. We are absolutely resolved in our position. We will not stand idle and fold our hands while all kinds of machinations are being hatched to destroy the collective interest of the Yoruba people. We insist on micro zoning. We demand that Makarfi and his co-conspirators should resign immediately while a new, neutral arbitrating leadership is appointed.<br /> <br /> “The convention itself should be postponed for at least one month to ensure that all the corrupt and crooked contraptions of Makarfi are removed to allow a sane and more objective interregnum. The Yoruba people are now poised and ready to claim what is deservedly ours. If we are denied the chairmanship of the party, we will walk out of the PDP and take our fortunes somewhere else.”<br /> <br /></div>

Abdullahi Ganduje said this in Kano on Friday at the second day of the NDIC workshop for financial journalists.<br /> <br /> He said that in spite of the huge salary bill, which he said, was more than some three states combined, the state had never failed to pay the salaries monthly.<br /> <br /> The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, said the state had also embarked on various empowerment programmes to improve the living standard of residents.<br /> <br /> He listed one of the programmes as the “Mai Shai Empowerment Scheme”, meant for tea sellers in the state.<br /> <br /> Ganduje said this programmes had had positive multiplier effects on the citizens generally in the state.<br /> <br /> He said that in line with international best practices, Kano State had introduced new financial management practices that brought about financial prudence.<br /> <br /> The governor said that the state had also introduced a single treasury accounting system like the Federal Government which had improved its accounting system.<br /> <br /> ”Kano State has strengthened its anti-corruption agency which has greatly improved the confidence of the citizenry in state’s investments,” he said.<br /> <br /> The governor said the state and Lagos State had been chosen as yardsticks to measure the business environment in the country, adding that the state was working on improving the ease of doing business.<br /> <br /> He said that the textile industry in Kano, which used to be the largest textile industry in Africa, was being revived to its old glory.<br /> <br /> Ganduje said foreign investors had been visiting the state with a view of investing in some of these moribund textile companies.<br /> <br /> He said that the state had the highest primary school enrollment in Nigeria of over three milłion and two state universities.</div>

He started this season very well and after that, step by step, he was disappearing.<br /> <br /> “His performance level — in terms of goalscoring, assists, high pressing, receiving the ball high up the pitch, bringing the team with him as a number 10 — were decreasing step by step.<br /> <br /> “And there was a time that was enough. The others, they work to have a chance. Everybody works to have a chance so it’s as simple as that.”<br /> <br /> Mkhitaryan has endured a torrid time at Old Trafford since his arrival in a £26 million ($35 million, 29 million euros) deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.<br /> <br /> He found himself banished from Mourinho’s league line-up for well over two months early last season after a dismal display in their 2-1 derby defeat to City.<br /> <br /> But he appeared to have won over his biggest critic — Mourinho — with some impressive performances as United won the Europa League and clinched Champions League football.<br /> <br /> – Forwards left out –<br /> Mkhitaryan has not been the only creative or attacking player to come in for criticism from the United manager, with Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and others left out at various times due to dips in form.<br /> <br /> And Mourinho believes that despite trailing only neighbours City in the Premier League goalscoring charts, his players are not scoring enough, with French international Martial singled out as an example of a player who has responded well to being left out.<br /> <br /> “The team that excites me is the team that, after five chances, is winning 4-0,” he said. “That’s the team that excites me.<br /> <br /> “I think we had an improvement with Martial, scoring more goals than last season, that is why he’s playing more minutes.”<br /> <br /> Ultimately, the United manager also believes that the healthy size of his squad, and the competition for places, is good news even if it means he will face questions about players being left out.<br /> <br /> “All positions are open,” he said. “The last couple of matches Mkhitaryan was out and other players had the opportunity to play that normally Mkhitaryan has.”<br /> <br /> “There are only 11 plus seven (substitutes),” he added. “When you have a chance and the performance is not what I expect, it’s normal. They take key decisions in this government. Those who ensured Buhari’s election have been sidelined. If the APC and the Presidency dismiss Atiku’s defection, they are not realistic. There are fears that the party may crumble. Apart from the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, there are other appointees of this government that are supporters of Atiku.”<br /> <b><br /></b><b>APC instituted regime of draconian clampdown in govt and party –Atiku</b><br /> <br /> In a statement on Friday morning, Atiku explained why he left the APC. He said that while other parties had purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality, the ruling party adopted same practices.<br /> <br /> He stated that the ruling party had instituted “a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.”<br /> <br /> Atiku disclosed the decision to leave the ruling party in a statement he personally signed.<br /> <br /> He went down memory lane to recall that on December 19, 2013, he hosted members of the APC in his house in Abuja.<br /> <br /> He said the party members were there to appeal to him to join the APC after he left the PDP because of the crisis emanating from the special convention of the former ruling party on August 31, 2013.<br /> <br /> He recalled that he and several of his loyalists were left in limbo at the time the APC came calling.<br /> <br /> Atiku said, “It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision of the founding fathers, which I had for the PDP, could be actualised through the All Progressives Congress.<br /> <br /> “It was on the basis of this invitation and the assurances made to me that I, being party-less at that time, due to the fractionalisation of my party, accepted on February 2, 2014, the hand of fellowship given to me by the All Progressives Congress.<br /> <br /> “On that day, I said ‘it is the struggle for democracy and constitutionalism and service to my country and my people that are driving my choice and my decision” to accept the invitation to join the All Progressives Congress.”<br /> <br /> Explaining the reason behind his decision to leave the APC, Atiku said events, which unfolded soon after the party took power, proved his earlier optimism was misplaced. He said like any other human and many other Nigerians, he was fallible.<br /> <br /> To buttress his point, the former vice-president said, “Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the President which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had ‘not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance.”<br /> <br /> “Of the party itself, that same governor said, ‘Mr. President, sir your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider the total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties.”<br /> <br /> He expressed disappointment that since the memorandum was written, nothing had been done to address the issues raised in it till this day.<br /> <br /> Atiku accused the party of making false promises especially to those who were invited to join.<br /> <br /> “More importantly, the party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth?<br /> <br /> “A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people,” he said.<br /> <br /> Atiku noted that he and the others who accepted the invitation to join the APC were eager to make positive changes for the country but that “we fell for a mirage.”<br /> <br /> He further explained that he arrived at the decision to leave the APC after due consultation with his God, family, supporters and the Nigerian people from all walks of life.
