The Reformed Indegenous Peoples of Biafra, Re-IPOB, has reiterated its call for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation, saying, a working Biafra is far better than an unworking Nigeria.<br />

Leader of Re-IPOB, Jonathan Kurubo, in a statement, said if the Nigerian state can be restructured to give its component units more freedom to determine their fate, then it can be given a chance, saying, “It is believed that Nigeria can never work because of its present circumstances and background.<br />
<br />
We do not doubt that, hence the need to restructure it and make the centre weak. Those who want the status quo to remain want a stronger centre where they will continue to hold Biafrans to ransom.<br />
<br />
We cannot accept then, hence our call of this restructuring.” The statement read: “Fellow Biafrans, You are aware that the civil war foisted on us by the Nigerian government and its foreign collaborators ended on January, 15th, 1970 on a supposed note of ‘no victor, no vanquish’.<br />
<br />
“In reality, Biafrans have been treated as vanquished people since the end of that brutal war. The people of Biafra have been treated like second class citizens in Nigeria contrary to the ‘no victor , no vanquish’ mantra.<br />
<br />
“You will recall that if we had wanted to continue the war that time, we could have done so despite the challenges we faced then. We could have gone into guerrilla warfare but our leader late Gen Odumegwu Ojukwu instructed us to lay down our arms when he went in search of peace. But till date the Nigerian side have not done enough to show that the war has ended.<br />
<br />
Literally, the war is still on though the battle has changed “Today, my Nigerian created state Bayelsa, has only eight local governments. The entire South East has 95 local governments whereas Kano state alone has 44 local governments. The South East has five states whereas the North west has seven.<br />
<br />
In the 1952 census, the East was more populated than the North and West but in subsequent post war census excercises, the East and South East in particular have been reduced to the minority of minorities. Incidentally local governments, states and census figures are used to share our common patrimony.<br />
<br />
“Beside the structural imbalance in Nigeria, there are other inbuilt policies that are skewed against Biafrans in Nigeria. Look at the quota system in Universities, recruitment in military and paramilitary forces, employment in the federal public service etc. The present President of Nigeria in reality is the President of Northern Nigeria in his speech, conduct and appointments. Who owns ninety percent of the oil blocs in the Niger Delta and how did it happen.<br />
<br />
“The Nigerian state is a criminal state that has no respect for its citizens , especially for Biafrans. Its a state that does not care about the welfare of its people. Its a state engrossed in perpetual looting by its elites and wicked rulers. It has nothing to offer Biafrans unless its restructured.<br />
<br />
“Fellow Biafrans, you will recall that one of us, Raph Uwazuruike started the MASSOB movement in the year 2000 to actualise the dream but he later derailed. Also the Billie Human right initiative is following a legal means to actualise the struggle but we doubt if the Nigerian legal system will accede to that. Then IPOB came on board but its leadership derailed and started seeking fame and fortune. This was the circumstance that led to the emergence of RE-IPOB.”<br />

It added: “For us in RE-IPOB, a working Biafra is far better than an unworking Nigeria. But if Nigeria can be restructured to give its component units more freedom to determine their fate, then it can be given a chance. It is believed that Nigeria can never work because of its present circumstances and background. We do not doubt that, hence the need to restructure it and make the centre weak. Those who want the status quo to remain want a stronger centre where they will continue to hold Biafrans to ransom. We cannot accept then, hence our call of this restructuring.<br />

“Nigeria must be renogotiated, else Biafra must exist. We are therefore offering an olive branch to the Nigerian state to commence immediately without waste of time the Dialogue with our representatives to avoid the consequences of not doing so. Self determination is a universal inalienable right and nobody, I repeat, nobody can stop the wind of change blowing all over the world.<br />
<br />
“We have listed the names of our negotiators. The government should reach them and commence the process immediately. I warn Nigerian security agents to stop molesting all pro-Biafran agitators in their own interest as we are poised to commit a biltzkrieg against the Nigeria state through our Ogbunigwe protective arm.<br />
<br />
“We had also ealier stated the issues that should form the focal point of the Dialogue. The Nigerian side is also free to include its on points but not to exclude any of our points.<br />
<br />
“Finally, I warn that the world is now a global village and cataclysm in one place will have a cyclic effect in the entire world. Nobody should test our will this time as what happened between 1967 to 1970 will be a child’s play if anybody tries our will.<br />
<br />
“We call for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, though he should keep quiet once he is released and can join RE-IPOB if he wishes. Fellow Biafrans, we shall triumph.”

Ondo State Governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko, in efforts to put smiles on the faces of people in his state, has disbursed over N200 million to various groups under its micro credit scheme.<br />

Governor Mimiko stated this on Tuesday while speaking at the 3rd batch of loan disbursement and presentation of cheques to beneficiaries under the CBN/Ondo state Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF), at the International event centre – The Dome in Akure.<br />
<br />
At the event where a sum of N219.5million was disbursed to about 500 beneficiaries, Governor Mimiko disclosed that a total of N622.2m has been disbursed under the MSMEDF apart from the ones disbursed through the Agbebiye initiative, STARS and loans to market men and women in the State.<br />
<br />
He noted that the gesture was in line with his promise to banish poverty from the State and create wealth, assuring that the State government will continue to inject more fund into the scheme.<br />
<br />
He said “We have deliberately put in place several micro credit schemes  that will reduce poverty and also targeted at the people who could not provide requisite collateral security to obtain loans from banks”.<br />
<br />
While pointing out that close to Two Billion Naira had been given out as loans by his administration since coming on board in the state, Mimiko noted that over N45 million naira had been disbursed under the Agbebiye Repositioning Scheme to the various Traditional Birth Attendants and the Faith Home Birth Attendants who had accepted to key into the State Government’s Agbebiye programme meant at bringing maternal death to zero level in Ondo State.<br />
<br />
The Governor, who said that his administration had superseded the successive administrations in the state in loans disbursement, also stressed the need for the people to re-orientate themselves, pointing out that there is no alternative to hard-working.<br />
<br />
He assured that his administration will continue to place priority on the welfare of the people of Ondo State, urging the beneficiaries of the loan to ensure uninterrupted repayment to allow others to benefit.<br />
<br />
Earlier in her address, the chairman of the State Micro-Credit Agency, Mrs Banke Sutton thanked the governor for his concern towards the plights of the people, noting that the loan will enable the beneficiaries to boost their businesses and contribute to the economic development of the State.<br />
<br />
Sutton, who pleaded with the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by paying back on time, said that more fund is still available for disbursement if the beneficiaries pay back promptly.<br />

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick will not contest for a FIFA council seat later this month after CAF refused to endorse his nomination.<br />

The elections into the FIFA Council are slated for on September 29 with seven possible candidates have already been announced by CAF - Almamy Kabele Camara (Guinea); Suketu Patel (Sychelles); Kwesi Nyantakyi (Ghana); Ahmad (Madagascar); Augustin Senghor (Senegal); Hamidou Djibrilla (Niger) and Chabur Goc Alei (South Sudan).<br />
<br />
The seven shortlisted candidates will undergo the FIFA integrity test, before their names are finally ratified for the ballot.<br />
<br />
According to reports, Pinnick’s invitation of Infantino and 17 other African football federation presidents in July was only a cover-up to seek for support for his bid to contest for one of the FIFA seats, and this much has been confirmed by the man himself.<br />
<br />
“As big as Nigeria, we don’t have a representative in CAF or in FIFA, so if I am ambitious to go to CAF or FIFA, yes because I am the president of the NFF, not because I’m just a member,” Pinnick told Lagos-based radio station, Lagos Talks FM on Tuesday.<br />

“I am praying about it and if God wills it, why not? But the truth is Nigeria needs a presence globally and this is exactly what we are doing.”</div>

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday made a surprise appearance at the second meeting of the Council of States presided by president Muhammadu Buhari.<br />

Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election that brought Buhari to power and was not present in the first Council of States meeting that held October 21 last year.<br />
<br />
Speculations were rife then that the former president was still battling with the concomitant effects of the election he lost and could have graced the meeting presided over by his erstwhile opponent whom he had defeated in the 2011 presidential elections.<br />
<br />
Similarly, former Head of State, Gen. Abusalami Abubukar and former Head of Interim National Government, ING, Chief Ernest Shenekon were also joined at the Wednesday meeting.<br />
<br />
However, former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Shehu Shagari, former Heads of State, General Ibrahim Babangida and Yakubu Gowon were conspicuously absent at the meeting.<br />
<br />
Also, the senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara were not in the meeting. However, a handful of the serving governors were present as well as former Chief Justices of Nigeria, CJNs.<br />
<br />
Among the state governors at the meeting included Rivers, Borno, Niger, Imo, Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Benue, Bauchi, Enugu, Kwara, Adamawa. Others are Abia, Sokoto, Kaduna, Lagos, Kogi, Plateau, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina.<br />
<br />
Former CJN at the meeting included Lawal Uwais, Mariam Muktar, Idris Kutigi, Alfa Belgore. Council of States is a body of former country’s leaders that performs advisory roles to the president.<br />
<br />
Its membership included the serving and former Presidents of Nigeria, former and serving CJN, serving Senate president and House Speaker and serving governors.<br />
<br />
It is expected that meeting would confirm the appointment of Mr. Idris Ibrahim as the Inspector General of Police, IGP who was appointed by president Muhammadu Buhari on acting capacity some months ago.

And the altercation came right at the start of the meeting where the latest act of petulance between the pair is alleged to have taken place.<br />

Before Sir Alex Ferguson's opening address Mourinho was rushing into the conference room where his other managers had assembled to listen to the legendary Scot.<br />
<br />
As the current Manchester United boss looked for a seat he spotted a space near Paris St-Germain boss Unai Emery and Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.<br />

He asked if he could sit there but quick as a flash the response came from Wenger who was sitting nearby: "It is not possible."<br />
<br />
The incident caused unease at the conference with those nearest pretending they had heard nothing while others are said to have stifled laughter.<br />
<br />
It's just the latest in a long line of bust-ups between the pair which started back in 2004 when Mourinho first came to England.<br />
<br />
The Portuguese has accused the Gunners boss of being a voyeur while they duo came to blows at Stamford Bridge back in October 2014.</div>

Faizan Mohammed, a 16-year-old newlywed bride was yesterday confirmed dead after their residence collapsed in Lagos.<br />

The incident occurred around 9am at Kuata Area by Amara Olu Street, Mechanic Village, Agidingbi in Ikeja.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that their makeshift residence, located in a swampy area, collapsed following a mudslide.<br />
<br />
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, who was inside one of the shanties, was trapped under the mud.<br />

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja has granted bail at N50million to former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe and two others arraigned before it Wednesday morning.<br />

Godsday Orubebe, Oludare Lawrence Alaba an Assistant Director, Ministry of Niger Delta Affiars), Ephraim Tewolde Zeri (Director of Contracts in Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Limited) and the company were arraigned on a six-count charge marked: CR/265/2016.<br />
<br />
They are, in the charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), accused among others, of diverting about N2.3b meant for the compensation of property owners to be affected by the Federal Government’s dualisation project of Section IV of the East West Road.<br />
<br />
Orubebe and others pleaded not guilty to the charge, following which Justice Kayode Adeniyi granted the ex-Minister bail at N10m and one surety, who must be a responsible Nigerian, resident in Abuja and must show evidence of regular tax payment.<br />
<br />
The judge granted Alaba and Zeri bail at N20m and one surety each, who are to be residents in Abuja.<br />
<br />
He said Alaba’s surety must be an Assistant Director in any Federal Government’s agency, while Zeri’s surety must own property in Abuja and show evidence of ownership.<br />
<br />
Justice Adeniyi ordered the defendants to be kept in ICPC’s custody pending when they are able to process the bail granted them.<br />
<br />
He adjourned to November 10 for commencement of trial.

Managing Director (MD) of the News Agency of Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga stirred a controversy Tuesday with his comment on the hardship in the land.<br />

The former MD of The News took to his Facebook page to say an “objective check” would reveal that supposed harsh economic reality under President Muhammadu Buhari was being blown out of proportion.<br />

He narrated how his daughter, who flew a Virgin Atlantic flight from Lagos to London, found many Nigerians on board amid the “seeming” economic crisis.<br />
<br />
The comments have been eliciting reactions, particularly on social media.<br />
<br />
“My daughter was on the Virgin Atlantic flight that took off from Lagos to London today. I asked her to find out whether the plane was filled up or going to London near empty judging by the noisy campaign from a section of the country about the ‘hardship’ in our country,” he wrote.<br />
<br />
“My daughter sent back this one-line text, after boarding: “Daddy, the flight was filled up o.<br />
<br />
“This makes me wonder whether all the seeming orchestrated campaign in the media was not mere propaganda to make the Buhari regime look really bad.<br />
<br />
“I was in Bauchi and Jos at the weekend, I also found that food was cheap everywhere. In our hotel, we paid about N700 for a plate of semovita, or eba with a choice of catfish or chicken.<br />
<br />
“On the roadside, I found to my surprise that with just N1000, I bought over 50 oranges, two giant watermelon and 10 pieces of sweet potato. I had experienced a similar thing in the market at Abuja, where I found that with N1,400, I could make a big vegetable soup, with tomato, pepper and roasted Titus fish.<br />

“Are the media and bloggers really painting a correct image of our country.  It’s time for the media to objectively conducted a reality check about our reports, whether we are not over sensationalising so-called hardship that we talked about.”

Abraham's rejection is coming barely two days after another aspirant, who came third in the contest, Chief Olusola Oke rejected the result.<br />

Abraham, through the Director General of the O’Abraham Campaign Organisation, Prince Olu Adegboro, in a volte-face described the election as nothing but a fraud.<br />
<br />
Abraham in his statement titled ‘That Our Democracy May Endure’, signed on his behalf by Adegboro, stated that the outcome of the election is “unacceptable”, considering the plethora of staggering facts of anomalies that had since emerged to the demerit of the exercise.<br />
<br />
The reads in part: “It is no longer news that as a true democrat, imbued with the best spirit of sportmanship, I congratulated Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who purportedly emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 3rd Gubernatorial Primary election in Ondo State in the face of palpable disbelief and surprise on the outcome of the primary election by my numerous supporters.<br />
<br />
“It is now beyond doubt that the delegate list used on the day of the primary election was doctored and strangely injected with a mind blowing number of delegates who are neither executive members of our party nor statutory delegates.”<br />
<br />
Abraham had on Sunday congratulated the winner and also commended the electoral committee headed by Jigawa state governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for conducting a transparent primary.

The military said last month it wanted to question Ahmad Salkida for allegedly concealing information on the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Islamists more than two years ago.<br />

Nigerian media reported that he was arrested when he arrived in the capital Abuja on a flight from the United Arab Emirates on Monday.<br />
<br />
But the BBC said he had since sent a text message to the broadcaster’s Hausa-language service saying he was “released in less than 24 hours without any conditions”.<br />
<br />
He also denied being arrested at the airport, saying he had been given a “pre-arranged lift” by the authorities, whom he said misunderstood the role of journalists in reporting the conflict.<br />
<br />
The army, which also denied the arrest, said on August 15 it wanted to speak to the journalist, after he tweeted about a new video of the captured schoolgirls before it was published on YouTube.<br />
<br />
Army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said at the time there was “no doubt” the reporter and two other individuals “have links with Boko Haram terrorists and have contacts with them”.<br />
<br />
Salkida has reported extensively on Boko Haram over the last 10 years and is believed to have high-level contacts within the group and previously been involved in talks to free the kidnapped girls.<br />
<br />
He has maintained he has done nothing wrong and that he was prepared to return to Nigeria to speak to the authorities.<br />
<br />
A total of 218 schoolgirls from the Borno state town of Chibok are still being held by Boko Haram.<br />
<br />
The militants have said they will release them in exchange for imprisoned rebel fighters held by the government.<br />

“Let me just tell you about choking,” Trump fumed to ABC. “I don’t choke. She chokes.”<br />

Trump has edged ahead of Clinton in a new CNN/ORC poll, at 45 percent to 43 percent among likely voters, while an NBC News poll of registered voters shows Clinton’s lead holding at six percentage points — 48 percent to 42 percent.<br />
<br />
Another survey, by The Washington Post, looking at all 50 states shows Clinton with a solid lead in terms of electoral college votes, and even strength in some traditional Republican strongholds.<br />
<br />
Clinton said she pays no attention to polls.<br />
<br />
“We’re sticking with our strategy, we feel very good about where we are,” she said.<br />
<br />
But the polls show how close the race is looking ahead of the vote, making the battle for the so-called swing states all the more critical.<br />
<br />
Clinton rallied supporters at a voter registration event in swing state Florida, while the billionaire real estate mogul held a town hall meeting with military veterans before heading to North Carolina for an evening campaign rally.<br />

“We have 62 days – just 62 days – to make the case, and I can’t do it without you,” Clinton said in Tampa.<br />

“I believe I’m the best person for this job and I believe they’re going to keep coming after me,” Clinton told reporters.<br />

With Monday’s Labor Day holiday kicking off the final dash to Election Day, Clinton took pains to make herself more than available to reporters traveling with her, after nearly nine months without holding a formal press conference.<br />

She took questions for more than 20 minutes on her plane for a second straight day.<br />

Clinton said Trump was “dead wrong” for saying his tax returns were not the concern of everyday Americans, despite every major presidential nominee since Richard Nixon releasing their taxes before the election.<br />

“I think it is a fundamental issue about him in this campaign that we’re going to talk about in one way or another for the next 62 days. Because he clearly has something to hide,” Clinton said.<br />

– ‘She’s a disaster’ –<br />
<br />
While Clinton repeated her charge that Trump is “temperamentally unfit” for office, Trump assured veterans in Virginia Beach that he was in their corner, and used the opportunity to slam Clinton’s ineffectiveness as a top diplomat and politician.<br />

“She’s a disaster in so many different ways, folks,” he said.<br />
<br />
“You have illegal immigrants that she wants… treated better than veterans.”<br />
<br />
Clinton is promoting a pathway to citizenship for many of the 11 million people living in the shadows, while Trump wants to curtail immigration and require that those who wish to gain legalized status must leave the country first.<br />
<br />
The two also exchanged shots about national security, with Trump warning that Clinton would be unable to stand up to adversaries like President Vladimir Putin of Russia.<br />
<br />
“Putin looks at her and he laughs,” Trump said.<br />
<br />
Trump released a letter in which 88 retired generals and admirals endorsed him, a revelation dismissed by Clinton.<br />
<br />
“I think we’re up to 89, but who’s counting?” she quipped, noting how several Republican national security figures openly support her.<br />
<br />
She also upbraided him for saying he would have stayed on his plane and left China if he were treated as President Barack Obama was last week when he was forced to exit Air Force One from a rear door.<br />

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn pointed to the hard-knuckled political battle ahead and urged Clinton to hit Trump relentlessly.<br />

In-fighting has broken out in Boko Haram after the Islamic State group announced a new leader of its Nigerian affiliate, according to reports in the country’s remote northeast.<br />

IS said last month that Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram’s founder Mohammed Yusuf, had replaced Abubakar Shekau at the head of the designated terrorist organisation.<br />
<br />
But Shekau then insisted he was still in charge of the Islamist group, whose insurgency has killed at least 20,000 people since 2009 and forced more than 2.6 million from their homes.<br />
<br />
Sources in northeast Nigeria now say there have been deadly skirmishes between the two factions, even as Nigeria’s military seeks to finally rout the rebels in a sustained counter-offensive.<br />
<br />
Last Thursday, several fighters from Shekau’s camp were said to have been killed in two separate gun battles with IS-backed Barnawi gunmen in the Monguno area of Borno state near Lake Chad.<br />
<br />
Nigeria’s military declined to comment on the reported in-fighting when contacted by AFP.<br />
<br />
– ‘True jihad’ –<br />
<br />
Mele Kaka, who lives in the area, told AFP: “The Barnawi faction launched an offensive against the Shekau faction who were camped in the villages of Yele and Arafa.<br />
<br />
“In Yele, the assailants killed three people from the Shekau camp, injured one and took one with them, while several were killed in Arafa,” he said by telephone from the state capital, Maiduguri.<br />
<br />
The attack prompted residents of Arafa to flee, he added.<br />
<br />
Fighters from Barnawi camp had the previous day attacked gunmen loyal to Shekau in Zuwa village in nearby Marte district, killing an unspecified number, Kaka said.<br />
<br />
“The Barnawi fighters told villagers after each attack that they were fighting the other camp because they had derailed from the true jihad and were killing innocent people, looting their property and burning their homes,” he went on.<br />
<br />
“They said such acts contravene the teachings of Islam and true jihad.”<br />
<br />
– Ideological split –<br />
<br />
Shekau has led Boko Haram since the death of Mohammed Yusuf in police custody in 2009, waging a deadly, indiscriminate guerilla war that has overwhelmingly targeted civilians.<br />
<br />
Suicide bombers have repeatedly hit busy mosques, churches, markets and bus stations while hit-and-run raids have destroyed remote villages, killing and maiming residents.<br />
<br />
Thousands of people, many of them women and young girls, have been kidnapped, including more than 200 schoolgirls, who were seized from the Borno town of Chibok more than two years ago.<br />
<br />
Shekau has justified the attacks in ranting video and audio monologues against the secular state, those who support it and anyone who does not share his radical interpretation of Islam.<br />
<br />
He pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in March last year, changing the group’s name to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).<br />
<br />
Experts, however, suggest the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians as well as Shekau’s “dictatorial” style, including secret killings of dissenting commanders, have caused a rift.<br />
<br />
Shortly after his nomination, Barnawi made a pointed critique of Shekau’s leadership, lambasting him for targeting ordinary Muslims.<br />
<br />
– Gun battle –<br />
<br />
News of the factional clashes have been slow to emerge because of the destroyed telecommunications infrastructure in northeast Nigeria, and restricted access.<br />
<br />
A civilian vigilante assisting the military against Boko Haram said there were sporadic clashes between the opposing fighters.<br />
<br />
The three incidents described by Kaka were “very possible”, said Babakura Kolo.<br />
<br />
“I don’t have news of the clashes but it is not surprising if they did occur because there has been similar in-fighting among the two Boko Haram camps,” he added.<br />
<br />
Two weeks ago, there was a fierce gun battle in the Abadam area of Borno state, near the border with Niger, where Shekau’s fighters were routed, he said.<br />
<br />
“It was a deadly fight and Shekau’s fighters were forced to flee,” he said.<br />
<br />
Hundreds of residents of the villages and their herds taken hostage by the fleeing fighters were allowed to go about their normal lives by the Barnawi faction, Kolo added.<br />

The video shoot was paused, as Illbliss and Mark engaged in a 10 minute conversation about Nigerian music, and other matters.<br />

Zuckerberg mentioned the moment in a post on Facebook:<br />

Illbliss is working on a new album which will be released this month. A tentative unofficial title of the project has filtered to the media as “Illygatti”. The video interrupted by Zuckerberg is off the album.<br />

The Nigerian Army has said they have arrested a Boko Haram suspect on its list of wanted insurgents.<br />

According to a statement issued by its spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, on Wednesday, the suspect, Muhammed Bulama, is number 105 on the list of wanted Boko Haram insurgents.<br />
<br />
He said Bulama was arrested with two other suspects; Ardo Abba Muhammed and Muhammadu Kaigama on September 6 in Azare community, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe.<br />
<br />
Usman said the suspects were arrested riding on horses and a bicycle shepherding some sheep to market.<br />
<br />
He said the suspect, during interrogation, confirmed his photograph on the wanted list and further revealed that he specialised in rearing animals for Boko Haram.<br />
<br />
The spokesman said the suspects further confessed that they were in the village to sell the animals as they had run out of cash in their hideout.<br />
<br />
Usman said the suspects also confessed that they were also making efforts to get some food items back to the camp for the Sallah festivity.<br />

The High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria , His Excellency Umer Farooq said on Wednesday in Abuja that Nigeria and Pakistan trade volume has hit $1 billion mark.<br />

The High Commissioner called on both Pakistan and Nigeria authorities to operationalise an already signed Memorandum of Understanding on trade and investment with a view to enhancing economic development.<br />
<br />
He said, “I will also want to recommend for the two countries, to put in place right policies that will help in operating these MoU’s in various sectors of our economy.”<br />
<br />
According to him, both countries have a lot in common as developing nations particularly in areas of agriculture, manufacturing and industry.<br />
<br />
He expressed the optimism that with right policies in place, Nigeria and Pakistan would witness rapid developments within a very short time.<br />

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Tuesday said it has secured examination centres in Agbor, Delta state and Ore in Ondo state for candidates writing the General Certificate Examination (GCE) on Saturday, September 10 in Edo state.<br />

It will be recalled that Edo state governorship election is expected to hold on the same day secondary schools students in the state are expected to sit for their mathematics paper.<br />
<br />
INEC through the Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of the commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, also said it would not be involved in the relocation of the candidates.<br />
<br />
It added that the idea to relocate candidates to other states for examination is purely the responsibility of the state government, adding that INEC would not compensate any candidate.<br />
<br />
The Head, Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu said the council would go ahead with the examination on that day.<br />
<br />
Ojijeogu also stated that WAEC would not be responsible for the relocation of the candidates to the two states, adding that the council is hoping the state government would assist with the relocation of the candidates.<br />
<br />
He added that WAEC officials would be on ground to conduct the examination for candidates who would be at the venue of the examination.

Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit has exposed massive corruption at the top of the Maldives government, including theft, bribery and money laundering. President Abdulla Yameen is accused of receiving cash in bags filled with up to $1m, so much that it was “difficult to carry,” according to one of the men who delivered it.<br />
<br />
A new documentary, Stealing Paradise, gives an unprecedented insight into how international corruption is carried out. AJ’s Investigative Unit obtained an electronic cache of confidential texts, emails and documents. It includes evidence that ties the president of the Maldives to the largest corruption scandal in its history, in which nearly $80m of money raised from luxury resort leases was stolen.<br />
<br />
The documentary also features secretly recorded confessions of three men who helped to embezzle millions and delivered the stolen cash on the orders of the president and his deputy.<br />
<br />
The programme finds that the president’s ministers and aides have plotted to launder up to US$1.5bn through the South Asian nation’s central bank, with the help of secretive businessmen from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. They planned to fly in cash at up to $100m at a time, pass it through the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and transfer it back out.<br />
<br />
Anti-Corruption analyst Robert Palmer of Global Witness said: “This amount of money and in physical cash I think is quite unusual. I haven’t seen an example of this amount of cash laundered through a central bank. It’s something from a James Bond film.”<br />
<br />
Data obtained by the Investigative Unit expose many other abuses of power. The former vice president ordered the police commissioner to “blast” a TV station, which was critical of the government. He also conspired with police to “light up” a government office housing 200 members of staff. The target of the attack was Niyaz Ibrahim, then Auditor General investigating the vice president’s corruption. Mr Ibrahim branded al Jazeera’s findings as evidence of ‘state-sponsored terrorism by the government against its own people.’<br />

As a result of the current average price of N175,000 per ram, many will be unable to afford the animal and according to Islamic laws, ram cannot be shared.<br />
<br />
But there’s a way out for those who can’t singlehandedly afford a ram. The same laws allow for the sharing of camels and cows by a maximum of 7 people.<br />
<br />
Hence, you can always decide to share a camel or cow with your neighbour, friend or family and save a lot in the process.<br />
<br />
<b>Goat</b><br />
<br />
However, if you are not big on sharing or simply do not want to share with the world, your inability to afford a ram/cow/camel alone, why not go for a much cheaper animal.<br />
<br />
Another option is goat, an animal whose meat can be wholesome and nourishing, if properly cooked.<br />
<br />
By choosing to purchase a goat, you can still fill two pots with enough meat for the celebration and friendly neighbours can still get a piece or two.<br />
<b><br /></b><b>Chicken</b><br />
<br />
If the economy is particularly tough on you, don’t attempt to break the bank because rainy days are here to stay, literally and figuratively.<br />
<br />
“Whoever can afford to offer Sacrifice but does not offer it, let him not come near our prayer place (Ibn Majah 3123)”.<br />
<br />
With the current recession in the country, if you are only able to afford a chicken (or two), it’s enough to celebrate with the family.<br />
<br />
<b>Buy beef/whatever you can afford</b><br />
<br />
Every Muslim, who can afford to offer sacrifice should go ahead and make the sacrifice but if you can’t and all that’s within you capability is a pot of soup, go ahead and celebrate with that.<br />
<br />
You can get beef from the market to celebrate sallah with your family. One or two kilos of meat would go a long way because half-bread is better than none.

A 68-year-old suspect identified as Femi Faweya, was Tuesday paraded by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly printing fake Nigerian currency.<br />

The sexagenarian alongside his 42-year-old accomplice, Segun Fayose, confessed to the crime, saying they obtained a currency printing machine with which they had duped many people.<br />
<br />
Speaking in front of newsmen at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Faweya, who claimed to be a former Grade 2 teacher, said he ventured into printing fake currency because he lost N200, 000 to fraudsters.<br />
<br />
“I also needed money to take care of my three children who are in the university.<br />
<br />
“I have been printing N500 and N1, 000 notes with the machine in order to recoup the money I lost to fraudster.<br />
<br />
“I live at Ijokodo in Ibadan here. I used to photocopy the materials with a photocopy machine.<br />
<br />
“I was introduced into the business three years ago by Bayo but he is late now. He duped me of N200, 000 without doing anything for me.

Mikel, who captained the Olympic Eagles to Nigeria’s only medal in Rio and featured for 69 minutes as the Super Eagles pipped Taifa Stars of Tanzania by a lone goal on Saturday, was joined by his compatriot Victor Moses and deadline day arrivals David Luiz and Marcos Alonso at the Cobhams training ground.<br />

In a short video posted on Chelsea’s Twitter handle, Mikel watched in amusement as Chelsea returned David Luiz nutmeg Pedro Rodriguez in training.<br />
<br />
Mikel, 29, was instrumental in the national U-23 team’s bronze medal feat at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil and will be out of contract at the club next summer.<br />
<br />
He is yet to feature for Chelsea this season but has chalked up over 322 appearances for the Blues over a decade.</div>

A 38-year-old Nigerian identified as Dennis Ndukwu has been arrested for using the name of a top Ghanaian government officials to defraud a foreign investor to the tune of 150,000 dollars.<br />

Dennis Ndukwu allegedly forged signatures of Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper and other high profile personalities.<br />
<br />
The operations of Dennis and his gang was uncovered in June this year following suspicion of the victim’s bankers.<br />
<br />
The police said Dennis Ndukwu and his gang, through internet hacking, got to know about challenges being faced by the victim, a Vietnamese investor who had invested over 8.5 million dollars in Ghana.<br />
<br />
Dennis Ndukwu, allegedly introduced himself to the investor, Le Van Khiem, as the secretary to the chief of staff, Julius Debrah, and can use the high office to assist him.<br />
<br />
The police said Dennis later produced various documents purportedly signed by the chief of staff and the finance minister Seth Terkper.<br />
<br />
These convinced the victim to give his personal items including his visa card and code to Dennis and his gang to enable them to withdraw 100,000 dollars from his account to aid the process.<br />
<br />
But the unusual withdrawal attracted his bankers’ suspicion to raise query on the account.<br />
<br />
Yet the gang managed to get the victim to part with several thousands of dollars after noticing that the bank had blocked the account.<br />
<br />
It was during the withdrawal of the last tranche of the money transfer that Dennis was arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.<br />
<br />
According to the police, Dennis Ndukwu admitted the offence and mentioned one Robert Amuzu as an accomplice.

Cattle Breeders Joint Association of Nigeria, a Fulani socio-cultural organization, has called for the speedy placement of tracking chips on livestock to prevent cattle rustling.<br />

The group said the chips would also help in identifying cattle.<br />

In a stakeholders sensitization meeting in Kaduna on Monday, the group discussed on issues such as the clashes between herdsmen and farmers, cattle rustling, grazing reserves, livestock identification and tracking, and disease control.<br />
<br />
In his speech, Kachia Hussaini, the National Chief Coordinator of the group, called on the government to include livestock identification and tracking methods for all grazing animals in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“We have resolved to support all government and private sector initiatives towards proper livestock identification and tracking,” he said. “We also condemn in strong terms the attack on unsuspecting Nigerians under the guise of Fulani herdsmen. We therefore resolved to encourage peace-building campaigns among Fulani herdsmen and other peace loving Nigerians.”<br />
<br />
He said the meeting also seeks to promote cattle breeding management, facilitate control of livestock movements and “adopt new measures aimed at livestock management in Nigeria.”<br />
<br />
Recall that the brutal activities of herdsmen across the country have sacked residents from their homes and communities.<br />
<br />
Mr. Hussaini called on federal and state governments to fast track plans on grazing reserves and livestock identification across the country.

Judge Steven O’Neill set the date after the 79-year-old pioneering black comedian made multiple attempts to head off the possibility of a trial stemming from one alleged incident at his Philadelphia home in 2004.<br />

But O’Neill advised lawyers that the trial could start even earlier if schedules permit. He also said that given the defence assertion that Cosby is blind, the defendant may require special assistance in court.<br />

Andrea Constand, who worked for the Temple University basketball team at the time, alleges that Cosby plied her with pills and wine, then sat her down on a couch at his Philadelphia home where he assaulted her.<br />
<br />

Cosby says he gave her a pill, but insists their relations with consensual. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.<br />
<br />
Dressed in a pinstripe jacket and gray pants, Cosby had appeared animated and engaged in conversation with his lawyers before Tuesday’s hearing at Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, northwest of Philadelphia.<br />
<br />
But the prospective trial cements a brutal fall from grace for the once treasured father figure and apparent model citizen who smashed through racial barriers and delighted audiences with his gentle, self-deprecating humor.<br />
<br />
In recent years, more than 50 women have publicly accused him of being a sexual predator spanning four decades, making remarkably similar allegations that he fed them sedatives and alcohol that made them unable to resist his advances.<br />
<br />

The vast majority of the alleged abuses happened too long ago to prosecute, making the Constand case the only criminal charge brought against Cosby.<br />
<br />
Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin Steele told the court that he wants up to 13 other alleged victims to testify at trial. The judge has yet to agree and Cosby‘s legal team will likely put up fierce resistance.<br />
<br />
The defense vowed their client would continue “the fight for his rights” and accused a lawyer representing other alleged sexual assault victims of waging a campaign built “on racial bias and prejudice.”<br />
<br />
“When the media repeats her accusations — with no evidence, no trial and no jury — we are moved backwards as a country and away from the America that our civil rights leaders sacrificed so much to create,” they said.<br />

Those allegations have seen celebrity pals and millions more malign the legend who attained his greatest fame for his role as a lovable obstetrician and family man in the hit 1980s television sitcom “The Cosby Show.”<br />

The Constand case was initially settled by a civil suit in 2006 but prosecutors reopened claiming that new evidence had come to light.<br />
<br />
The former star posted bail at $1 million in the case last December, but has yet to enter a plea.<br />

If he pleads guilty, Cosby could avoid the enormous publicity that will come with one of America’s most famous entertainers going on trial.<br />

In her original deposition in January 2005, Constand said Cosby plied her with pills and wine, then sat her down on a couch, where the actor allegedly fondled her breasts, put his fingers in her vagina and put her hand on his erect penis.<br />

Cosby‘s legal team mock Constand’s credibility, saying she chopped and changed her evidence, and omitted from the final version lying down on a bed next to the actor and later visiting his home for dinner.<br />
<br />
Constand, who now lives in Canada, has yet to appear at any public hearing.<br />
<br />
Cosby‘s most famous role was as Cliff Huxtable, the affable father of an upper middle class black family in New York, in “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992.<br />
<br />
It was one of the most popular TV series of all time and jettisoned the actor into a life of fame and millions, following a humble childhood during which he was raised by a maid and a US Navy cook.<br />
<br />
Cosby served in the Navy himself and won an athletic scholarship to Temple, before moving into comedy. In addition to television, he wrote books and appeared in movies.<br />

Some secondary school students have appealed to relevant authorities to shift in date of the gubernatorial election in Edo State scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 10 to another date as it clashed with their Mathematics examination also scheduled by the West African Examination Council for the same day.<br />

The students who stormed the Government House, Benin City with placards with various inscriptions said holding the examination and the poll same day would disenfranchise them.<br />
<br />
They students also said they would kick against any plan to be moved to other states for the Mathematics examination as planned by WAEC, adding that this would not only disorganise them but also put them at a disadvantage.<br />
<br />
Spokesman for the students, Iko Emmanuel Moses said “our position about the General Certificate Examination (GCE) in Edo State, the scheduled governorship election on the 10th of September, with a deep sense of regret and pains, we wish to express and oppose the disturbing circumstances surrounding the above examination of this year and its effect on our expected performance in the examination.<br />
<br />
“The plan to relocate us out of Edo State, our state to other regions to sit for the examination because of the September 10 election in Edo State as scheduled by INEC is an ill wind which will affect our chance to perform well in the examination. We have found this situation very disturbing, discouraging and we cannot take the risk.”<br />
<br />
He continued, “Remember this that the conduciveness of an environment has a great impact on the performance and outcome of examinations for students. We enrolled for this examination in Edo State and we have prepared for the examination in Edo State environment. We are used to the environment for safety, comfort, accessibility of examination centres and psychology.<br />
<br />
“You will agree with me that a threat to the above is a threat to us, and even the outcome of the examination. We want to humbly say that as the election is important to the nation, so is our exam important to us, and even more important to us because, without a good education, we cannot grow up to participate in the Nigerian democracy.”<br />
<br />
He said, “This examination is about our future, and therefore, we will not take or accept the risk. We call on INEC to do something about this situation. We call on all the political parties concerned to do something to save our future. The examination has already started in Edo State and it will be dangerous to now move us out of the terrain we are already used to and compel us to write the most important ones outside the state.<br />
President Muhammadu Buhari should come to our aid. The Comrade Governor should also come to our aid. Our future must not be sacrificed for election.”<br />
<br />
Another candidate Aliu Samson, for the election, said “Saturday will be the day I will be writing mathematics, I am more than 18 years old and I’m a Nigerian. It is my basic duty to exercise on Saturday by voting. Due to the security situation in the country, it will not be ideal for me to travel outside my terrain to write my examination.<br />
<br />
“I am therefore calling on the relevant authorities to come to our aid so we can write our examination in this state. So it is either the election is postponed or they do something about our examination.”<br />
<br />
One of the parents who joined the students in the protest said “what I want you to know, your Excellency, is that there’s going to be a strong financial commitment to the parents, taking the children to other states will involve accommodation, feeding and it will bite deep into our already lean purse. So I want to appeal to you that this should be reconsidered. We are quite aware that WAEC is a regional examination and so it cannot be shifted, we are also thinking of how the election itself is shifted so that we will have time for our children and also for them to vote.”<br />

In his response, Governor Adams Oshiomhole said he would pass their protest letter to the President, saying the election was fixed by INEC which is an independent body.<br />
<br />
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo says the responsibility for fixing the governorship election in the State rests on the Independent National Electoral Commission, explaining that he was not consulted when the election for September 10 was scheduled.<br />
<br />
He said, there are two examinations that are due, one for the people of Edo to write exams on whom they want to be their governor, and you yourselves to write exams which will constitute the foundation of your future. But let me first tell you the whole truth because when I listened to you and you were appealing to me, I am touched. But I get the impression that you probably think that I am responsible for this decision. I am not.<br />
<br />
Let me tell you the truth about it. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a few months back, I think it is about two months now or three months, they announced that they will conduct the governorship election in Edo State on the 10th of September. That decision was taken by INEC.<br />
<br />
By law, INEC has the power to make those decisions. The law doesn’t oblige them to consult with me or to seek my approval. So, I have no input in the decision of INEC to fix September 10 for the election. And in fairness to the other political parties, I don’t believe that they too had any input. I also know that the PDP for example or the Labour Party or the APGA, none of them had any input in the decision of INEC to fix 10th. That power is solely the power of INEC.”<br />
<br />
He continued, “When they fixed that date, all we were expected to do as political parties is to work and prepare our candidate to be ready for the election. We have been talking of September 10 because that is the date INEC decided we should have it, and it is within their power to do so.<br />
<br />
“Two weeks ago, I received a letter from WAEC informing me as the Governor of Edo State that they will be conducting WAEC examinations on the 10th of September, and they wanted us to grant exemption to those who are going to write the exams to be able to go to the various centres to write because the standard law, rule, and regulation is the that on election day, you are only allowed to go to your polling booth, and unfortunately, some of the polling centres where you are expected to write exams, they are also the same centres that are meant for voting. Some of the schools are premises for voting. Even if it was within my power, I don’t see how you can be in a room writing exams, and outside you have thousands of people making noise trying to vote.”<br />
<br />
According to Oshiomhole, “The request by WAEC to me, first, it was beyond my power because the decision to restrict movement is taken by INEC, and they did it in good faith. So, I replied to WAEC that I don’t have the power to waive the restriction order because that one is imposed by INEC in consultation with the national security chiefs because it is the security chiefs, that is, the army, the police and the SSS.<br />
<br />
“Between them, they meet and agree that on election day movement is restricted. I think you know that is the standard. It is not only for this election. In every election, it has been like that. They will not allow people to travel into or out of Edo that day from a certain hour of the day untill the end of the election.”<br />
<br />
He said, “I fully understand your complaints. I understand your concerns, and one of you made the point. Even for you to participate as good citizens in our democracy in the future, you must be educated. If we say the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, for you to claim leadership role, your upward mobility must not be compromised. I fully understand.<br />
<br />
“So, I fully understand, but unfortunately, I am not in a position to say, yes I have agreed, yes I don’t agree because the matters are beyond me. They are beyond Edo State Government, but I understand fully.”<br />
<br />
The Governor assured them, “What is not beyond me is to convey this letter that you have addressed to our president, President Muhammadu Buhari. I promise you, as fast as I can, I will forward it even if it is by email to ensure that it gets to the President to the Villa today. That I can do. And I know that the President is concerned about the future of our children.”

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr said the national team will not play its games at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, until there is an improvement on the bad condition of the playing pitch.<br />

But this has also lead to a hike in the prices of noodles in the market. According to investigations by some reporters, the big ones - Hungryman has 24 parks in a carton while Belleful contains 16 packs. Superpack that sells for N2,400 a carton before is now N2,750 for one carton - are the most sought-after in most homes. This is just as one pack is enough for two adults. It is just between N150 and N170 per pack. One ‘derica’ or cup of rice is, however, N300 which is almost double that of one pack of Belleful.<br />

A wholesaler of noodles at Old Ipaja Road in Agege, Funmi Olopade, said there had been a rise in the demand for various brands of the product generally.<br />

She said: “I sell an average of four to five cartons a day, but in recent time, this has changed. There has been an increase. I now sell up to 15 cartons in one day because the retailers are rushing to buy the products. There has been an increase of over 20 per cent on all the products.<br />
<br />
A bag of rice, which sells for between N10,000 and N11,500, is now being sold for between N22,000 and N23,500. The effect cuts across down the line in terms of sales including the cooked rice being sold by food vendors. It is no longer easy to enter a restaurant with N100 to eat rice.<br />

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, had last week confirmed that Nigeria’s economy was in bad shape. She argued the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari was, however, not confused about the current situation. Various indices reflect how bad the situation is to the ordinary Nigerians, especially as it has become difficult for people to have three meals in their respective homes.<br />

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in its second quarter report stated that the Consumer Price Index increased from 16.5 per cent in June to 17.1 per cent in July this year. A total of 79.9 million Nigerians are said to be jobless just as inflation hits an all-time high.
