Roberto Firmino scored a hat trick as Liverpool came from behind to hammer Arsenal 5-1 and go nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.<br />

Back-to-back defeats for title rivals Manchester City, as well as a shock 3-1 loss against Wolves for second-place Tottenham on Saturday gave Jurgen Klopp's men the chance to cement their place as title favourites -- and they did so in fashion.<br />
<br />
The hosts were on top in the opening exchanges, before Arsenal grew into the match and took the lead on 11 minutes. Dejan Lovren gave away possession and Alex Iwobi fed Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who slipped the ball past Alisson for just the third goal Liverpool have conceded at Anfield all season.<br />

However, the lead only lasted three minutes as Firmino scored his first home goal of the campaign in the Premier League with a typical no-look tap into the empty net after benefiting from a ricochet inside the Arsenal box.<br />

Two minutes later the Brazil international put Liverpool in front -- and there was no luck about this one as Firmino slalomed past three Arsenal defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Bernd Leno.<br />
<br />
Liverpool were rampant and made it 3-1 on 32 minutes as Sadio Mane guided the ball into the net, having been played in by Mohamed Salah.<br />
<br />
Arsenal's frustration was evident and Granit Xhaka was lucky to stay on the pitch after being booked for a foul Andy Robertson before kicking the ball away -- and it got even worse for the visitors in first-half stoppage time as Salah was brought down in the penalty area by Sokratis Papastathopoulos.<br />
<br />
The Liverpool forward dusted himself down to get his name on the scoresheet as he powered his spot kick past Leno, who got a touch on the ball.<br />
<br />
Arsenal boss Unai Emery replaced Shkodran Mustafi with Laurent Koscielny at half time as he looked for a way into the match, but his side remained second best.<br />
<br />
Aaron Ramesy had a glorious chance to pull one back on 55 minutes, but he chose to slide ball across to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and the Gabon international was lucky to be called offside as he put the ball over the bar from close range.<br />
<br />
Any hope of a sensational comeback was put to bed when Sead Kolasinac was adjudged to have pushed Lovren in the area, and Firmino buried the resulting penalty in the corner to make it 5-1 and complete his first hat trick for Liverpool.<br />
<br />
The result increased Liverpool's lead over Tottenham is nine points, but it will be cut to seven if Man City claim a win at Southampton on Sunday.<br />
<br />
City and Liverpool then meet at the Etihad on Thursday.<br />

Prince Uche Secondus, the National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Nigeria has lost one of its most compassionate and humane leaders in the late former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.<br />
<br />
Secondus in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Ike Abonyi on Saturday in Abuja, said that Shagari was the last man standing among principled leaders upon whom the democratic foundation of the country was established.<br />
<br />
He said that Shagari as President in the Second Republic, ensured that his reign caused minimal pain to the people because of his humane approach to governance.<br />
<br />
The national chairman said that Nigeria would miss Shagari’s fatherly counsel, especially at this time when the country is passing through difficult challenges ahead of a major election.<br />

<br />
“The Second Republic president will be remembered for his principled approached to governance and his God-fearing disposition as evidenced in the way and manner he piloted the affairs of the country within the ambit of the rule of law, without nepotism, bias of religion, tribe or geography from 1979 to 1983,” Secondus said.<br />
<br />
The PDP national chairman further said that the former president’s legacies in the political evolution in the county would endure.<br />
<br />
He added that Nigerian politicians had great things to learn from the way and manner the great democrat operated while he held sway in the nation’s polity.<br />
<br />
He said that the PDP had a lot in common with the late president in the development of democracy in the country and said that he would be greatly missed.<br />
<br />
He disclosed that the PDP had already sent its condolences to the Governor of Sokoto state, Rt Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and the entire Shagari family, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and members of the party at home and abroad.<br />
<br />
Secondus charged the people of Sokoto state and the immediate family of the late former president to take solace in the fact that Shagari lived a peaceful life and left behind huge legacies as a teacher, politician, and father.<br />
<br />
In a related development, the PDP has in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, described Shagari’s death as a “national tragedy“.<br />
Ologbondiyan described late Shagari as a man of peace, an exceptionally honest Nigerian, outstanding leader, quintessential administrator and a symbol of national unity.<br />
<br />
He said that the deceased made immeasurable sacrifices for the development, unity and stability of the country.<br />
<br />
He added that Shagari’s excellent performance as a political party administrator stood him out for the Presidency in 1979.<br />
<br />
Shagari was a member of the House of Representatives, Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, at various times minister of Commerce and Industries; Economic Development, Pensions, Works and then Finance.<br />
<br />
Shagari was also a governor of the World Bank and member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) committee of 20.<br />
<br />
“The PDP is therefore, deeply sorrowful that President Shehu Shagari took his bow at the time our nation needs his wealth of experience the most, particularly in the quest to restore good governance, national cohesion and economic prosperity that have eluded us in almost four years.<br />
<br />
“In all, President Shehu Shagari remains a political colossus and the PDP urges the National Assembly to further immortalise him, by mandating the Federal Government to name a foremost national institution after this great patriot.<br />
<br />
“The PDP commiserates with the Shagari family, the government and people of Sokoto state, the Council of State and the entire nation for this irreparable loss and prays the Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest,” he said. </div>

The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday said it was opposed to the commencement of a nationwide military exercise, Egwu Eke III otherwise called Python Dance.<br />
<br />
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, had said the military exercise which would commence from January 1, 2019 and last till February 28 was in preparation against security challenges anticipated before, during and after the 2019 general election.<br />
<br />
But the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan in a statement alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari was plotting to use the planned nationwide ‘Operation Python Dance’ to legitimise his administration’s alleged ploy of using the military to intimidate voters and rig the 2019 presidential election.<br />

He stated that Buhari planned to use the military having realised that he cannot win in a free and fair poll.<br />

According to him, the plot is in line with the alleged desperation of the Buhari Presidency to foist a siege mentality on the nation ahead of the 2019 general elections.<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan, who is also the Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization said, “Our investigation shows that part of the plot is to use the military operation as a subterfuge to unleash heavy security presence to intimidate, harass and instil fear in voters in PDP strongholds across the country and pave the way for the allocation of fictitious votes to President Buhari and the APC.<br />
<br />
“Further investigation revealed that agents of the Buhari Presidency are working in cohort with some compromised top officials of the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu-led Independent National Electoral Commission  to use soldiers to provide cover for diversion of electoral materials, as well as aid APC agents in their plan to unleash violence and disrupt the electoral process in areas where the PDP is winning.<br />
<br />
“In spanning the military operation to February 28, 2019, the Buhari Presidency betrayed its anticipation of public rejection or violence, which can only come when a result that does not reflect the actual wish of the people is announced.”<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan stated that everybody in Nigeria and world over, including the Presidency, knew the direction the 2019 presidential election tide is flowing.<br />
<br />
He added that Nigerians are eager for a new president, having lost confidence in Buhari, due to his alleged failures in governance.<br />
<br />
He said, “The PDP PCO, therefore, rejects this deliberate attempt by the Buhari Presidency to set our military on a collision course with Nigerians, bearing in mind the collateral damage that usually occurs whenever the civilian population clashes with military.<br />
<br />
“Our nation is a democratic state and we are not in a state of emergency that requires the militarization of our electoral process.<br />
<br />
“Our military, which is cherished by Nigerians, should, therefore, foreclose any attempt by the Buhari Presidency to use it to set our country on fire.”<br />
<br />
According to him, all that Nigerians desire at this point is to go to the polls and peacefully elect a new President to reposition the nation and not another round of electoral crisis.<br />

An Ikeja magistrate’s court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Peter Adida, in prison custody for allegedly defiling his daughter.<br />
<br />
Adida was arraigned by the police on one count bordering on the alleged crime before a magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat.<br />
<br />
 It was learnt that Adida was arrested after his wife lodged a complaint at the Lamgbasa Police Station that he fondled their daughter’s private parts.<br />
<br />
 The family lived on Oyelayo Olajisoye Street, Badore, Ajah, where the incident happened.<br />

The wife, Taiwo, had reportedly noticed some discharge from the private parts of the two-year-old on November 15, 2018 and raised the alarm.<br />
<br />
She was said to have prodded the kid, who allegedly accused her father of touching her private parts.<br />
<br />
 The case was later transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja and the suspect was charged to court.<br />
<br />
 A police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emerhi, who brought Adida before the court, said the offence was punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.<br />
<br />
 The charge read, “That you, Peter Dada, sometime in November 2018, on Oyelayo Olajisoye Street, Aja, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a two-year-old, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”<br />
<br />
 In the remand warrant application filed before the court, the police gave the narrative of the victim’s mother as regards the incident.<br />
<br />
 “One Mrs Taiwo reported that her two-year-old daughter was defiled by her father, one Peter Adida, 35. The complainant stated that on November 15, 2018, she noticed that her daughter was having some discharge in her vaginal and that when she took her to a hospital, it was discovered that there was penetration in her vaginal.<br />
<br />
  “She alleged that on questioning her daughter, she told her that it was her father who touched her (private parts). The suspect, however, made a statement, denying the allegation.”<br />
<br />
 The presiding magistrate, Sule-Amzat, did not take the plea of the defendant.<br />
<br />
 She ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions on the matter.<br />

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday extolled the late former president, Shehu Shagari’s role in Nigeria’s pre- and post-independence politics.<br />
<br />
Obasanjo gave the eulogy in a condolence letter addressed to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.<br />
<br />
He described late Shagari as a humble, patriotic, amiable and notable Nigerian leader.<br />
Obasanjo expressed his deep respect for the achievements of the late Shagari in the course of his long life, describing him as one of the principal actors in Nigeria’s pre-independence and post-independence politics.<br />
<br />
“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to say how deeply grieved I was to hear of the death of His Excellency, President Shehu Usman Shagari.<br />

“In all his national assignments, he was forthright, dedicated and showed great commitment in the discharge of his duties.<br />

“He was a unifying force for the nation and his contribution to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria cannot easily be forgotten.<br />

“In all situations, he lived nobly and he died in nobility.<br />
<br />
“President Shagari died at a time the country and its leadership is in dire need of such leadership, experience and wisdom to tackle the multi-faceted challenges facing the nation.<br />

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Otunba Segun Adewale has posited that South West region of the country will determine the winner of the 2019 Presidential election.<br />

Adewale made this known to newsmen on Christmas get together he organized for his business and political associates.<br />
<br />
Adewale said that the chances of the former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is very bright but must ensure that he work with people who truly wants him to emerge as the next President.<br />
<br />
He said for instance in Lagos, a lot of the people running and forming a circle around him from the State have not lifted a finger to add anything to Atiku’s electoral fortune or campaign, he stressed further that many of them lack the political sagacity to use their influence to affect his electoral fortune but keep on with habit of name dropping.<br />

It is not news that Nigerians have rejected APC, their only hope is to rig the election recklessly, and our party must be ready to prevent it by looking for trusted and capable hands with committed party members who are ready to defend the votes even with their lives.<br />
<br />
PDP have always won convincingly in South West but our polling agents are too porous, the elections are rigged right from polling units to collation centers with intimidation and forceful declaration of fake result or outright refusal or allowing PDP to even vote in some polling units.<br />
<br />
Adewale said if Atiku truly wants to win convincingly in South West, he must assemble young and smart “Hard Working Team” with proven electoral track record and not the regular old and tired brigades who won’t even step outside their doors on the election day.<br />
<br />
He said that the party must take a cue from the recently concluded Ekiti and Osun election, he posited that all hands must be on deck if indeed the party want a resounding victory in 2019.<br />

Adewale said that Nigerians will vote for PDP massively, “we must play our own role to secure Atiku’s Victory by looking for a minimum of 50 strong, vibrant and honest people from each ward throughout the South West to man our polling units<br />

The PDP Chieftain said that it is obvious that some of the so called leaders from the region are running from pillar to post just to be named State Coordinators but cannot stake their personal finance to kick off campaign but waiting for the “Atiku’s Money”, the same set of people have their strong links and family members benefiting immensely from Buhari’s government, how do we expect such people to work with all their strength to ensure that Atiku emerge from the region? Adewale asked.<br />
<br />
According to him, both Atiku and Buhari will share Northern votes, South East and South South are for PDP but South West is the battle ground and as such, credible people must be chosen to man all the States in the region.<br />
<br />
Adewale said that Lagos has over 5 million voters spread across the 20 local government and 37 LCDAs created by the State government, it’s a peculiar State that needs men who can navigate it despite the structure of the ruling APC.<br />
<br />
Adewale who said his media statement is an SOS to Atiku and concerned stakeholders at the party’s top hierarchy, to take note of the perculiarity of Lagos State and South West as a whole.</div>

The PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, PPCO, has described the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential campaign flag-off in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital on Friday, as a mockery of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the cold response by the crowd showed how much Nigerians now begrudge him over his failures in governance.<br />

The council said it was a pitiable sight as “an embarrassed President Buhari could only slur, failed to articulate any clear reason for seeking re-election and had to cut short his presentation when he realized that the rented crowd, which refused to carry APC brooms, was not paying attention to him.”<br />

PPCO in a statement by its Director, Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan noted: “More embarrassing was that, apparently miffed by Mr. President’s attempt at yet another false performance claims, the crowd started leaving the venue of the rally at the time he was being handed his party’s flag by his national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, a development that led to a hurried closure of the event.<br />

“Nigerians were alarmed when Mr. President claimed that the nation was secure under his rule, when there are killings and daily bloodletting in various parts of our country; when insurgents who had been pushed to the fringes of the North East by the PDP administration, leading to the conduct of elections in all the local governments in the country, have under the Buhari administration spread to other states of the north.<br />

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick has affirmed that the Super Falcons will play at least eight matches in their build-up to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.<br />
<br />
Pinnick acknowledged that the Falcons have only two international breaks before France 2019, which would have left them with only two build-up friendlies, but says the NFF enrolled the team for two competitions in order to accord them more match opportunities before the Mundial.<br />
<br />
The Falcons might end up playing up to 12 matches en route to France 2019, as the second competition the team will feature in has group and knock out format.<br />
<br />
Pinnick added that the Falcons will start their preparation as early as January, when they go for a four-nation competition in China, then go for the major build-up outing at a 16-nation invitational in Cyprus.<br />

<br />
The NFF boss stressed that they ensured the Falcons were quickly registered for both competitions, because they are focused on giving the nine-time African Women Cup of Nations champions a strong chance of doing well at the World Cup.<br />
<br />
Nigeria are drawn in Group A alongside hosts France, Norway and the Korea Republic, ahead of which Pinnick says the Falcons need the best kind of preparations to stand any chance of doing well next year.<br />
<br />
Pinnick added: “We aren’t going to France to make up the numbers of participating nations, but to play and make a respectable impact.<br />
<br />
“As you know, there are only two free windows before the World Cup, but we decided that instead of playing friendly matches the team will embark on an invitational tournament to boost their preparations.<br />
<br />
“I can confirm to you that come January 14 next year the team will be heading to Asia.<br />
<br />
“There they will play Korea, who happen to be in our group, China and Canada, who are among the biggest nations when it comes to women’s football.”</div>

A Second Republic lawmaker, Dr Junaid Mohammed, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s tribute to the late President Shehu Shagari, who passed away on Friday at the age of 93.<br />
<br />
Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, had described Shagari’s death as the departure of a  patriot,  whose life of service and humility was widely acknowledged.<br />
<br />
But Mohammed in an interview with our correspondent stated that Shagari had gained respect by retiring and living a quiet lifestyle, unlike some in the current political class.<br />
<br />
The elder statesman said, “Quite a number of the people who would claim to be his friends were actually his enemies and they contributed tremendously to bringing down that government and in making it impossible for us to have a meaningful democratic dispensation years after his departure from office.”<br />

<br />
When asked his thoughts on Buhari’s tribute, he said, “It’s not sincere. If you’ve contributed so much in bringing down a government and bringing down a man who had nothing to gain, even though he had poor eyesight and was in poor health – he was in his late 60s then – you cannot say, from 1984 till now, you got along well. How did you get along well?<br />
<br />
“No matter what you say about the Shagari administration, he knew how to retire from public service quietly, with a tremendous amount of nobility and self-respect. You have to give him that.<br />
<br />
“In terms of retirement and living a quiet life and garnering more respect, Shagari is certainly one of Nigeria’s most outstanding leaders and I certainly believe the nation will continue to mourn him appropriately.”<br />
<br />
According to Mohammed, he was devastated by the news of Shagari’s demise.<br />
<br />
He added that Shagari believed in the goodness of human nature, even when human nature was not always good.<br />
<br />
“The first Shagari administration of 1979 wasn’t particularly spectacular. There are quite a number of people there who really disappointed us, both National Party of Nigeria and Shagari, the president. He endured a lot but he didn’t want to rock the boat, so he waited until after the election in 1983 when some the characters were simply asked to leave or reappointed.<br />
<br />
“But even then there were others who were reappointed and I have a feeling that was because of pressure from within the party by some people who were seen to be above the law. Some of us would have been happy to see many of those who did not serve the country well outright sacked even before the end of the four-year term.<br />
<br />
“Shagari had a very modest lifestyle. If you got to know him personally, he was very cool and had a tremendous sense of humour. He got on very well with quite a number of people. He was a very wonderful man. I really enjoyed discussing with him even though we had our political differences.”</div>

A forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has kicked against the list of Presidential Campaign Council released by the presidency on Friday, describing it as discriminatory.<br />

The forum in its preliminary reaction said in spite of the sacrifices of its longsuffering members for the successes of the party, the APC-led administration has continued to denigrate its youth wing.<br />

The statement signed by the North-central youth leader of the party, Comrade Terver Aginde, on behalf of all the zonal and state youth leaders, threatened to mobilize APC youths to fight what he described as injustice against the youth wing of the ruling party.<br />

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has described the late former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari as the last of the first and second Republic titans.<br />

Also the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, mourned former president, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari.<br />

Saraki who expressed sadness over the death of the first elected President of Nigeria, Shagari, however described the late Elder statesman as a man of peace who dedicated the greater part of his life to the service of the fatherland<br />

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Ilorin, Saraki noted that Shagari would be remembered for his immense contributions to the political and socio-economic development of the country as well as his peaceful disposition.<br />

He also commiserated with the immediate and larger family of the deceased, the government and people of Sokoto State, and the entire country over the loss of the former President as he stated that: “let’s be consoled by the fact that Alhaji Shagari lived his life in the service of God and country.”<br />

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chief Olu Falae, has mourned the death of former president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died Friday evening at the age of 93.<br />
<br />
Falae,who in a statement released Saturday morning by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alpha Mohammed, said he received the death of the former Nigerian leader with huge shock, added that Nigeria had lost yet another great leader it had ever produced.<br />
<br />
He described Shagari as a president who led an exemplary lifestyle that eschewed all forms of discrimination, ethnic, tribal and religious sentiments.<br />
<br />
The statement read in full:”It was with a heavy heart that I received yesterday, the sad and shocking news of the death of yet another eminent personality, elder statesman and former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari whose demise occurred on Friday in Abuja after a short illness.<br />

“It grieves my heart that Nigeria has lost yet another most outstanding leaders this country has ever produced.<br />

A flood of tributes poured Friday night as the news of the death of Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari spread after the announcement by his grandchildren and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.<br />

Shagari was 93 years old and will be buried in his Shagari village today at 2pm.<br />
<br />
“I regret to announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his Soul Rest in Peace”, wrote Tambuwal on Twitter.<br />
<br />
Bello Shagari who first announced it on Twitter had over 5,000 retweets, as he wrote: “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja”.<br />

He later tweeted that the burial will take place today 29th December 2019, by 2pm at Shagari Local Government Inshaa Allah.<br />
<br />
Nuradeen Mahe, another grandson was the person who briefed the newsmen in Sokoto about Shagari’s death and also announced the burial that he said would take place today.<br />
<br />
Tributes then started flowing from politicians, former military men who toppled Shagari’s government in December 1983, students, the clergy including those who had opposed Shagari’s politics in the Second Republic.<br />
<br />
President Muhammadu Buhari, who succeeded Shagari on 1 January 1984 after the bloodless coup of 31 December, 1983 was among the early mourners.<br />
<br />
“On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Nigeria, it is with immense sadness that I received the news of the passing away of the First Executive President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari which event happened on Friday in Abuja,” Buhari said in a statement by Media adviser, Femi Adesina.<br />
<br />
Buhari described the death as the departure of a patriot whose life of service and humility was widely acknowledged.<br />
<br />
President Buhari recalled part of the birthday message he (Buhari) sent to him last February when he said, “ we are enthralled and regaled with the many years of unequalled patriotism, sacrifices and contributions to national development.<br />
<br />
“More specifically, we celebrate the role modelling qualities of integrity, diligence and humility that have been the hallmark of your visionary leadership.”<br />
<br />
The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Sen Aliyu Wamakko, who tweeted a photograph of Shagari, said the death of Second Republic President Shehu Shagari is an irreplaceable national loss.<br />
<br />
He added that his demise is a great loss not only to his family, Sokoto State, Sultanate of Sokoto, but to Nigeria as a whole<br />
<br />
From Minna Hilltop also came a tribute from former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida, one of the military officers who participated in the December 1983 coup. Shagari was just three months old in his second term when the military officers removed him.<br />
<br />
In his statement of condolence, signed by him, Babangida described Shagari as the “quintessential public servant who was “Beckoned to Serve”.<br />
<br />
“My heart and prayers go to his Family, the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Sokoto Caliphate and Sokoto state”, Babangida wrote.<br />
<br />
” Nigeria and indeed Africa has lost a statesman and democrat whose wisdom, counsel, presence and experience and his sterling qualities of honesty and transparency are needed in these very trying moments of our national life.<br />
<br />
“President Shehu Shagari was a great patriotic leader and an accomplished gentleman, at first a teacher, an administrator, a technocrat and an honest decent unassuming simple Nigerian Leader.<br />
<br />
“He will be remembered for his tolerance and politics of peace without bitterness”, Babangida added.<br />
<br />
Chief Ebenezer Babatope, who was the spokesman of the opposition Unity Party of Nigeria to Shagari’s National Party of Nigeria, also concurred that Shagari’s death was a great loss to the nation.<br />
<br />
Babatope said Nigeria had just lost a tolerant and peace-loving leader in Shagari, who tolerated scathing criticisms from the opposition and those who did not believe in his government.<br />
<br />
Babatope said when he was the spokesman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) ,the main opposition party at that time, he could not remember anytime Shagari clamped down on any politician with opposing views.<br />
<br />
“Shagari was a nice and gentleman. He was a great leader and democrat, a model of politics without bitterness” Babatope added.<br />
<br />
Senate President Bukola Saraki took to Twitter, his favourite platform to mourn the departed former president. Saraki’s father, Olusola was the Senate leader during the Second Republic.<br />
<br />
Saraki, whose reaction came in two tweets via his verified Twitter handle, said the late elder statesman “dedicated his best years in the service of our nation and its people.”<br />
<br />
“My family and I join the entire nation to mourn the passing of former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who led our nation in the Second Republic.<br />
<br />
“President Shagari was a quintessential public servant, haven served in seven cabinet positions and as a legislator.<br />
<br />
“He dedicated his best years in service of our nation and its people”, Saraki added.<br />
<br />
In Lagos, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, also described late Alhaji Shehu Shagari as a statesman, patriot and political stabiliser who served the country well in different capacities.<br />
<br />
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Mr Tunde Rahman in Lagos, Tinubu said that Shagari, who entered politics in 1951, served the country in different capacities and served well.<br />
<br />
He said that late Shagari particularly helped in advancing the country’s democracy and had the temperament for good leadership.<br />
<br />
”Former President Shehu Shagari was a decent man and a statesman, who believed in and worked for the unity of this country.<br />
<br />
”He served Nigeria in different capacities – administrator, provincial secretary, House of Representatives member, minister in several ministries and president – and in each capacity he did excellently well.<br />
<br />
“He contributed his quota to the growth and development of the country”, Tinubu said.<br />
<br />
Former Senate President David Mark said Shagari’s death had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.<br />
<br />
He said that late Shagari was a rare leader who believed in the sanctity of one indivisible Nigeria that must not be compromised no matter the odds.<br />
<br />
“He worked for the peace and unity of Nigeria. He was a man with a large heart and was ever conscious about the well being and welfare of the citizenry,” he said.<br />
<br />
The former Senate President added that Shagari demonstrated uncommon leadership skill during his stint as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , pointing that he ensured fairness and equity in the distribution of amenities across the country .<br />
<br />
“Even after he left office, Shagari continued to offer useful advice to the younger generation of leaders all in the bid to ensure a better Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He observed that Shagari left at a critical time when the nation needed his wisdom and knowledge to navigate through the murky political waters in the land.<br />
<br />
A member of the House of Representatives, Umar Bago, described the late Shagari as a charismatic elder statesman who contributed positively to the nation’s socio-economic and political development.<br />
<br />
“Late Shehu Shagari had a unique passion for providing solutions to governance for the country. His demise was a big loss to the political scene in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“Indeed Nigeria and Nigerians will greatly miss a political master that championed the course of green revolution and Shagari housing estates across the country ,” he said.<br />
<br />
Bago, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Niger state, extended his condolences to the immediate family of late Shehu Shagari Sultan of Sokoto and government and people of Sokoto state.<br />
<br />
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah said the death of Shagari marked a major milestone in the life of the country.<br />
<br />
“The great man lived well and God rewarded him with a long life. The late President was a committed patriot, dedicated to the building of a peaceful and democratic Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“In his pursuit of dialogue, he was the first Nigerian leader to invite the Pope to visit our country in 1982, thus, laying the moral foundation for his Ethical Revolution.<br />
<br />
“He left a legacy of humility and dedication.<br />
<br />
“On behalf of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, I extend my condolences to President Muhammadu Buhari, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, of Sokoto State and his immediate family,” kukah said.<br />
<br />
The students were not left out in the outpouring of grief and tributes.<br />
<br />
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) described the Shagari as a patriotic elder statesman, who built bridges of unity in the country.<br />
<br />
The National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Mr Bestman Okereafor, gave the condolence message in a statement issued in Enugu on Friday.<br />
<br />
Okereafor said: “The attention of the National leadership of the apex students governing body, NANS, has been drawn to the demise of Nigeria’s first elected president, who served between 1979-1983, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.<br />

“NANS is joining the Federal Government, all Nigerians both home and in Diaspora and the Shagari family in bidding the former president farewell.<br />

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, said in Abuja on Friday that it was wrong for President Muhammadu Buhari to launch his second-term bid when he had yet to visit Zamfara State where hundreds of people were killed by bandits.<br />

Secondus said the people of Zamafara State and Nigerians were expecting the President to put politics aside and find solutions to what he called “unmitigated killings in the state” and some parts of northern Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He likened the actions of the President and that of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to “dancing on the graves of innocent Nigerians who elected him in 2015 and have now been killed by bandits because the government they elected refused to protect them.”<br />
<br />
He added, “It is sad watching the President speak today (Friday) in Akwa Ibom State, when the people of Zamfara State and other states, especially from the North-West and North-Central, even in the North-East, are crying for help.<br />

“These are people who lined up in the sun about four years ago, thinking that President Buhari would be a father to them all.<br />
<br />
“Now they cannot go to their farms and their homes had been taken over by bandits. Yet, their father, the President, was busy dancing and giving out fake promises again.”<br />
<br />
Reacting to the APC rally, the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday accused the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress of secretly drawing over N478m from the coffers of the Niger Delta Development Commission to rent a crowd and offset bills for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election campaign rally in Uyo.<br />
<br />
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement also accused Buhari of directly appointing serving ministers and heads of government agencies as members of his campaign council in order to use them for the diversion of public funds to finance his 2019 campaign.<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan, who is also the Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, said the party was also aware of protests by some eminent Nigerians, including foremost businessmen, who were named as members of the APC Campaign Council without their consent.<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan said, “The N478m NDDC fund which was originally budgeted for development projects in the Niger Delta was diverted to renting and transportation of crowd from other parts of the country to the rally to create an impression of popularity for President Buhari in the region.<br />
<br />
“Further information at our party’s disposal, shows that the said N478m is part of the wholesome N1.2bn allegedly siphoned in tranches from the NDDC treasury by the cabal at the Buhari Presidency and the APC leaders, who have been stealing money from various government agencies to finance President Buhari’s campaign.<br />
<br />
“Our party also has it on good authority that this ignoble scheme of siphoning the NDDC development fund to finance his campaign was the main reason President Buhari foisted an unpopular leadership on the management of the NDDC despite the protests by critical stakeholders in all the states of the Niger Delta.<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan added, “Moreover, the PPCO invites Nigerians to note that unlike the PDP Presidential campaign council, which has credible Nigerians as members, most of Buhari’s zonal coordinators are persons facing corruption cases.<br />
<br />
“This casts a very long shadow on President Buhari’s integrity and further confirms that his fight against corruption is a sham.<br />
<br />
“The PPCO reminds President Buhari that Nigerians are still awaiting his explanation on the seething revelation of corrupt acquisition of Etisalat Nigeria and Keystone Bank PLC by his family members under the cover of his presidency; an issue that Nigerians are not willing to let go until he clears his name.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the Buhari Media Organisation has said the alleged lies and falsehood launched against President Muhammadu Buhari and members of his family by Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will not would not succeed.<br />
<br />
The group in a statement signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju;  and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, noted that the Atiku campaign had recently embarked on a lying spree aimed at damaging the character of the President in the bid to bring him to the same moral pedestal as Atiku.<br />
<br />
“The new campaign by Atiku and his party to throw falsehood in the air, aimed at attacking President Buhari’s character, is a failed mission. President Buhari has maintained an unassailable integrity throughout his public life; the same cannot be said of Atiku whose former boss has described him as a man that cannot be trusted.<br />
<br />
“The PDP want to place President Buhari and Atiku as if they are the same on the issue of integrity; hence the recent launch of fake news stories claiming the President and members of his family own properties and shares even where there is no iota of evidence to prove their points.<br />
<br />
“The only thing Atiku shares in common with President Buhari is their age group; asides that, Atiku cannot stand anywhere close to President Buhari, not even on the matter of integrity.”<br />

Hours after naming Africa’s richest man on the ‘special advisory committee’ to President Muhammadu for his re-election, the presidency has clarified that the businessman is not actually a member of the campaign team.<br />

It was reported how Mr Dangote was named among seven members of the advisory committee in a list provided by Mr Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina.<br />
<br />
Another businessman, Femi Otedola, was also on the list; while the other five were politicians.<br />
<br />
The other five are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; APC national leader; Bola Tinubu; Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan; House of Representatives Leader Femi Gbajabiamila; and the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.<br />

The advisory committee was one of the committees listed in the APC ‘Presidential Campaign Council.’<br />
<br />
The naming of the two businessmen was condemned by many Nigerians including the main opposition party, PDP.<br />

In another statement on Friday night, however, Mr Adesina explained the status of Mr Dangote.<br />
<br />
“It has become imperative to further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head ADVISORY MEMBERS in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018.<br />
<br />
“Africa’s richest man, not being a card-carrying member of APC, cannot, and is not member of the PCC. He is also a member of the Peace Committee, and thus cannot be in a partisan campaign council,” Mr Adesina said.<br />
<br />
The spokesperson did not explain why the advisory committee was listed as part of the PCC or whether his exemption of Mr Dangote also applies to the other six members of the advisory committee.<br />

A former Minister of Education and presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as incompetent, saying that is why he rewards incompetency by keeping his incompetent appointees in office.<br />

She made the remarks in Calabar on Friday while exchanging views with journalists on why she was running for the office of the President.<br />
<br />
She said, “We have seen serial failures in this administration. The President rewards incompetency and I am not surprised because the President himself is incompetent but does not realise it. What he does is to extend their stay in offices in which they have failed. We have seen it with the military. We have seen it with the police.<br />
<br />
“He has retained the IG of police after the expiration of his tenure. Is it for stellar performance? This is an IG of police the President told the whole country he did not go to where he was assigned to go to in Benue State. What the President is essentially telling us is that the Nigerian life does not matter that much to him, otherwise he should be very aghast at the level of killings that happened.”<br />

On why she is running for President, she said, “My greatest shock and one of my triggers for deciding to run for election, not being a politician as you all know, is that the debasement of the Nigerian life is the final straw that can turn us into a society of anarchy. For it to be that children will grow up in this society and just come to the understanding that killing a person is a normal thing; you know, you can just do it, there is no consequence. My goodness! What kind of impunity is that? That is a dangerous level of impunity.<br />

“For me, I want to be the President of this country and be an effective commander-in-chief of our armed forces on the basis of competence, capacity and character. I would so do that work well that the life of a Nigerian would be the epicentre of our development process. It has implications. It means that in terms of security, we would run the most efficient security system.<br />
<br />
“We would reform the security infrastructure of the country. We would find those brilliant ones in our military establishment that have been hidden away in an era of incompetency and low productivity. We would also reform the systems within the military because when we look at the military anywhere, they are the basis of what is called management by objective. And that idea is that when resources are made available, resources should lead to performance. And they should lead to accountability, they should lead to reward and when you are not getting it, you should fix it. And the President is not known to fix things that have gone wrong.”<br />

She decried the high level of poverty in the country and said as president she would focus on the right kind of policies, institutions that would promote investments and find innovative solutions to infrastructure deficit.

Policemen invaded the residence of Senator Dino Melaye in high-brow Maitama area of Abuja on Friday afternoon because of his involvement in a criminal case, police spokesman Jimoh Moshood has said.<br />

“Senator Dino Melaye is wanted by the police for attempted culpable homicide, the shooting and wounding of a policeman on duty, by Senator Dino Melaye and his thugs in Kogi state.<br />

“Senator Dino is a wanted man and the police are only in the process of arresting him,” he began.<br />
<br />
He further told our correspondent: “Three months ago, a letter had been written to the Clerk of the national Assembly to inform Senator Dino Melaye of the need to report to the police in Kogi state and he (Senator Melaye) has refused to do so.<br />
<br />
However, in his Twitter response to what he described as police invasion, Melaye alleged scores of policemen who arrived his residence located at 11 Sangha Street, off Mississippi Road in Maitama shortly after noon on Friday came with very criminal intentions.<br />

“All entrances to my residence in Mississippi have been secured by the police that claim there is no order to arrest me, one truck by Centagon school too; mass media and Nigerians, take note, we have pictures of those involved.<br />

“The Police operatives currently in the residence of Senator Dino Melaye are to effect his arrest to answer to the case of attempted culpable homicide on the shooting of a Police Officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.<br />

“The Police Officer is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care.<br />

“The Police operatives will continue to be in wait at the residence of Senator Dino Melaye until he surrenders himself for arrest. The offence for which Senator Dino Melaye is being investigated is capital in nature and not compoundable.<br />

About eight people were feared dead in a fatal accident involving supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State yesterday<br />

The accident occurred on Otukpo- Agatu Road in the state while the party supporters were travelling to Agatu for the flag-off of Abba Morro senatorial campaign for the 2019 elections.<br />
<br />
Abba Moro, a former Minister of Interior, is the PDP senatorial candidate for Benue South.<br />
<br />
The accident occurred at about 10 am.<br />
<br />
An eyewitness said the multiple accident occurred when the tyre of one of the buses conveying some PDP supporters burst and it veered off the road.<br />
<br />
Other buses conveying party supporters were then said to have rammed into one another, resulting in the high casualty figure.<br />
<br />
Benue State governor Samuel Ortom and Senator David Mark yesterday visited injured victims at St Francis Hospital in Adoka, Otukpo Local Government Area.<br />

The accident also forced Abba Morro who is the PDP senatorial candidate to cancel the flag-off campaign scheduled to hold in Agatu, Benue South.<br />

Our correspondent learnt yesterday that some of the victims were certified dead at St. Charles Catholic Hospital Adoka and deposited at the morgue of General Hospital in Otukpo while injured survivors were being treated in Adoka at the time of filing this report.<br />
<br />
Governor Samuel Ortom, who visited the hospital in Adoka in company with former Senate President David Mark and the Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, announced indefinite postponement of the PDP senatorial campaigns flag-off in Zone C.<br />
<br />
The Governor described the incident as painful and unfortunate, saying it was a huge loss to the entire PDP family in the state.<br />
<br />
He also directed the immediate evacuation of the survivors to Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi for further treatment, stressing that cases requiring further referrals outside the state would be handled accordingly.<br />
<br />
Describing the development as unfortunate, Governor Ortom commiserated with the bereaved families and PDP on the loss of their loved ones.<br />
<br />
Senator Mark, who also consoled the affected families, lamented that most of the victims were very promising youths within his senatorial district and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.<br />
<br />
On his part, the member representing Obi/Oju Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Samson Okwu, described the incident as painful, saying he met with some of the victims yesterday but never knew they were meeting for the last time.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Buhari administration is for all Nigerians, despite social class and status, and remains committed to improving their welfare so they can lead better lives.<br />

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Thursday during the Family Chats where he visited the Sanwo Olatunji-David family at Games Village and interacted with Nigerians in New Kuchingoro Village and the Wuse II Neighbourhood Centre, all in the FCT, Abuja.<br />
<br />
The Olatunji-David family runs a foundation called Life Builders Initiative for Education and Societal Integration, which runs a free education project called school without walls.<br />
<br />
During the visit, the Vice President, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said that the Buhari administration remains focused on improving the lives of Nigerians.<br />
<br />
He highlighted the administration’s social investment schemes, including the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme which currently provides a free, nutritious meal daily to over 9 million pupils in 26 states.<br />

Shortly after interacting with the Olatunji-David family at Games Village, Prof. Osinbajo proceeded to the neighborhood park where he bought some local meat delicacy popularly known as Suya and interacted with some residents of the area.<br />

<br />
At New Kuchingoro Village, near Games Village, the Vice President was also welcomed amidst singing and dancing by the residents.<br />

Through an interpreter, Prof. Osinbajo assured the people there of the Federal Government’s commitment to address the challenges confronting them, adding that the Buhari administration remains committed to their welfare and that of all Nigerians.<br />
<br />
“I want you to understand that this government is for you and will not abandon you. We will support you so you can live better lives by doing something for yourselves. That is what I can assure that we will do,” the Vice President said.<br />

The VP added: “I have been informed of your challenges and I can assure you that the government of President Buhari has programmes that will address some of your immediate needs.<br />

“Those of you who are into farming, we are going to support you with the necessary things that will make you less dependent – to feed yourselves, cloth yourselves and send your children to school. Those who want to trade, we are going to assist you through the TraderMoni scheme.”<br />

Our population is over 60 per cent of young men that is 30 years and below. Our main problem is employment. We are very lucky, the two previous rainy seasons were good, and we’ve virtually achieved food security. We don’t import rice now. We are encouraging our farmers and we’ve regained food security.<br />

“When I was around in uniform and much younger, I arrested former president, vice president, the governors, the ministers and told them that you are guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.<br />

<b><br /></b><b>Candidates’ character, a strong factor in 2019 elections, says Oshiomole</b><br />

Comrade Oshiomhole said at the rally that Buhari stands head and shoulder above on the strength of his impeccable integrity.<br />
<br />
He called the President “the one that is celebrated by fellow world leaders, the president who can go to America, and can stand with ex-President Obama and President Trump; not those who can’t get visa outside Nigeria. The one and only President Mohammadu Buhari.”<br />
<br />
The taunt was perceived as a veiled reference to the protracted issue of a US visa for Atiku.<br />
<br />
He said: “The only thing to speak on today before I perform my simple task is to say that this coming election, one of the issues that would form the basis of our campaign is the issue of character.<br />
<br />
“And I noticed over the past 48 hours the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, they’ve decided to look for mud, wherever they could find, to throw at your person.<br />
<br />
“The more they do it, the more the people laugh at them.<br />

“Mr. President Nigerians know who you are, the world knows who you are; but Nigeria also knows who you are.<br />
<br />

Earlier, the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee,Mr. Chibuike Amaechi said the Buhari administration would not deviate from its focus on rebuilding the economy,providing security and fighting corruption.<br />
<br />
He said: “We promised just three things – we promised to rescue the economy, we promised to enhance security and we promised to fight corruption, those were just the three things that we promised; anybody who says that we promised that one Naira will be one dollar is a magician, anybody who said we promised that fuel prices will fall must also be a magician.<br />
<br />
“We are not voodoo economists, we were very clear about what was to be done; we got in and saw the challenges, we never knew they had stolen all the money.<br />
<br />
“The World Bank said we would not come out of the recession in three years but we came out of the recession in ten months,” he said adding that the government is also fighting corruption.<br />
<br />
“If you vote for the other party, let me tell you, they will be too busy stealing money that by the time Nigerians realize it, we would be back to a recession,” Amaechi stated while urging Nigerians to join hands with APC in ensuring that PDP does not return to power again.<br />
<br />
In his own speech, former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Obong Godswill Akpabio who was described as “an uncommon defector” noted that the 2019 election would present a great contrast between President Buhari’s integrity and what others are offering the nation.<br />
<br />
Oshiomhole later presented the APC flag to the party’s governorship candidates in the South South.<br />
<br />
They are Mr Nsima Ekere, Akwa Ibom; Sen. John Enoh (Cross River); Chief Great Ogboru (Delta);and Mr Tonye Cole ( Rivers State).

Buhari stated this on Friday in Uyo at the flag-off of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential campaign in the South-South geo-political zone.<br />
<br />
According to him, Nigerians will not regret voting for APC candidates in 2019.<br />
<br />
He said he had specifically delivered in the area of security, economy and fighting of corruption in line with his promise to Nigerians.<br />
<br />
The president said although the menace of Boko Haram remained a challenge in some parts of the country, the insecurity posed by the group would eventually be eradicated.<br />
<br />
He also said that although unemployment remained a challenge in Nigeria, this administration was working to tackle the problem.<br />
<br />
He said that his administration had ensured food security and encouraged Nigerian farmers to achieve food security.<br />

Buhari said that his administration would continue to fight corruption if voted into office for a second term in 2019.<br />

“We have put the money into the Single Treasury Account (TSA) and all are going into government account which can be traced and accounted for.<br />

The Godswill Akpabio International stadium is already filled to the brim moments before the flag-off of the APC National Campaign for the 2019 elections.<br />

The security situation was tight in and around the stadium as the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; the Army, DSS and other paramilitary personnel were on standby to ensure security and a hitch-free campaign.<br />
<br />
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that all entrances leading to the stadium have been cordoned off by security personnel to ensure a hitch-free campaign flag-off.<br />
<br />
Vehicular movements have also been restricted around the stadium, while vehicles that conveyed supporters were parked along adjourning streets.<br />

Ambulances are also on standby in case of any emergencies.<br />
<br />
Different cultural troupes from the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom perform and chant solidarity songs even as they await President Buhari’s arrival around 2:30pm.<br />

Speaking to NAN, Mr Aniekan Nelson who hails from Ikot Abia Ward two in Obot Akara described the event as colourful.<br />
<br />
“As you can see Akwa Ibom is APC. We will give Buhari and Ekere as well as all APC candidates 100 per cent vote, come 2019 elections,’’ he said.<br />
<br />
Also, Mrs Inimfon Abasi Nelson, a candidate for Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, thanked God for making the event to hold in Akwa Ibom.<br />
<br />
“It is a privilege for us to have the President flag off the APC Campaign in Akwa Ibom. We are proud to have him here” Nelson said.<br />
<br />
She also expressed optimism that President Buhari would be re-elected in 2019, while Nsima Ekere would be elected as the next governor of Akwa Ibom.<br />
<br />
She also commended the people of the state for coming out en masse to witness the APC Campaign flag-off.</div>

Following his recent appointment as member Special Advisory Committee to President Muhammadu Buhari, for the 2019 presidential Campaign, the senator representing Kaduna Central, under the Peoples Redemption Party, Shehu Sani, Friday advised the richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote to be wary of the broom.<br />
<br />
Disclosing this via his official tweeter handle, Sani cautioned Dangote not to use the broom anyhow and advised him to maintain the use of his machine concrete mixer.<br />
<br />
“Dear Bro Aliko, don’t use Broom to reinforce your silos, don’t use Broom as your plasterboard; don’t use Broom to mix your concrete, maintain the use of your machine concrete mixer”.<br />
<br />
In another development, Sani expressed sadness over the ownership accusations of the leading Telecommunications network, Etisalat Nigeria and Keystone bank.<br />

Recall that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had accused the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and his family of having substantial shares with Etisalat and Keystone bank.<br />
<br />
According to him, Buhari’s family share in Etisalat, has an estimated $2 billion (about N727 billion at 360 per dollar) of its estimated $20 billion global net worth. Whereas, the one in Keystone Bank, totaled $1.916 billion (equivalent to N307.5billion).<br />
<br />
He equally accused Mr President’s family of purchasing about N3 billion worth of shares in the new Pakistani Islamic Bank.<br />
<br />
However, Presidency in its recent statement replied Atiku, noting that his intention was to dent the image of Buhari and his Vice, whom they said were incorruptible.<br />
<br />
In view of the above allegation and counter-accusations, Sani asked the two companies to publish their respective share holders in other to clear the dark clouds.<br />
<br />
His words, “In view of the moral dust raised by the questions on the shares of the two firms now on the scale of integrity, Etisalat & Keystone should publish the full names of their shareholders, to exhale the billows of smoke & clear the dark clouds hanging over the landscape of our nation.”<br />
<br />
He equally advised Nigerians who have any evidential proof against Atiku or Buhari to submit them to the relevant anti corruption agency.<br />
<br />
“If you have any concrete case of corruption against the ex VP, forward it to the relevant anti corruption agency; If you have any concrete case of corruption against the family of Mr President, forward it to the relevant anti corruption agency. Else its all about ghosts and shadows”, he said.</div>
