The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday confirmed that actually the apex electoral body’s website was attacked but vigilant staff of the commission repelled it.
The waves of attacks by Anonymous hacker across the country’s establishments websites got to the peak this week as even the apex electoral body was not spared.
INEC’s Director of Publicity Nick Dazang on Saturday confirmed that actually there was an attack on the electoral body’s website but the gallant staff of the commission vehemently repelled it.
He said: “Yes, there were attempts to hack into the INEC Website but the attempts were repelled by our ever-vigilant ICT Staff. As we speak, the website is up and running”.

Recall that the official websites of Lagos and Kaduna State Governments were early Saturday morning allegedly attacked by Anonymous.
The hacker allegedly further shut down Nigeria’s anti-Corruption agency, the EFCC, National Centre for Disease Control, and Amuwo Odofin Local Government in Lagos State.
The hacker claimed responsibilities for the said attacks on the websites in support of protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said the nationwide candlelight procession for SARS victims calls for sober reflections.
#EndSARS protesters on Friday night held a candlelight vigil in honour of all those who have been killed by operatives of the unit over the years.
At the different locations across the country where the candlelight event held, prayers were offered for the repose of their souls after which the demonstrators sang the National Anthem. 
Those who could not join the event physically took to social media in solidarity with protesters on the ground.

Sanwo-Olu on his official Twitter handle said: “I have seen powerful images and videos of the #CandleForSARSVictims vigils held across the country. It calls for very sober reflections”.
He further disclosed the orderly room trial of the police officers involved in the killing of protesters in Some last Monday had commenced.
He said: “Some of the victims attended and will testify before the panel next week. Justice will be served. Thank you to the team for actively following up and helping victims.
“There is so much more to be done and I will keep sharing the actions we are taking in line with my announcements.”

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the orderly room trial of four erring police officers who shot at peaceful protesters in Area C Police Command in the Surulere area of the state.
The four cops are Inspector Bagou Michael, Inspector Ekpoudom Etop, Sergeant Nnamdi Majura, and Sergeant Akinyemi Benson.
It was earlier reported that the action of the police officers led to the death of 55-year-old Ikechukwu Iloamauzor.
Protesters on Friday night held a candle night procession for the deceased victim as well as scores of others killed by ruthless operatives of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

Giving an update on Saturday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the death of Iloamauzor and others called for a “very sober reflections”.
“I have seen powerful images and videos of the #CandleForSARSVictims vigils held across the country. It calls for very sober reflections.
“Yesterday, the orderly room trial of the police officers involved in the Surulere incident began.
“Some of the victims attended and will testify before the panel next week. Justice will be served. Thank you to the team actively following up and helping victims.
“There is so much more to be done and I will keep sharing the actions we are taking in line with my announcements,” the governor tweeted.
The #EndSARS protests have been taking place across major cities in the country with youths demanding an end to police brutality and killings.
Major highways across the country have been blocked thereby grounding economic activities.

#EndSARS protest continued in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Saturday with more youths joining the call for an end to police brutality as well as demanding compensation for victims of such inhumane treatment by the operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.
This came after the youths held a candlelight procession on Friday night in honour of dead victims of police brutality.
One of the youths, who simply identified as K.O. Baba, said the procession was in honour of Chima Ikwunado, a mechanic who was tortured to death in the detention of the Eagle Crack unit of the Rivers State Police Command.
Also, he said it was to honour Daniel Ikeaguch, a musician shot dead by a policeman attached to a supermarket in Port Harcourt, and many other victims.

The youths on Saturday, however, called on the police authorities to compensate the families of the slain victims.
Numbering over a hundred, the youths gathered at Garrison at about 8am and marched on Aba Expressroad through UTC junction on Azikiwe Road.
The situation caused a gridlock on the Aba to the Azikiwe axis of Port Harcourt, as both private and commercial vehicles were on a standstill.

The Senate has urged the Federal Government to speed up the implementation of the five-point demands of #EndSARS protesters.
Senate Spokesperson, Dr Ajibola Basiru, made this known on Friday night.
It was reported Tuesday that the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad approved the five-point demands put forward by youths protesting against the brutality and extrajudicial killings by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Although the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, scrapped the police unit last Sunday and announced a replacement, the protesters want the police authorities to carry out psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they are redeployed.

They demand the release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families. They also want increased salaries for police officers as well as the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct.
The government and some business leaders had tried to persuade the youths to leave the streets but the protesters have insisted that until the government implement their demands, the demonstrations would continue.
Speaking on a television programme last night, the senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District said the two chambers of the National Assembly had inaugurated their constitutional review committees on the reformation of the Nigeria Police Force
“Beyond legislative action is the need to take timeous executive action. For instance, stopping the SARS is an executive action because no law actually set up the SARS.
“The 5-point demand of the protesters has been passed to the presidential committee and they agreed to it and we are expecting implementation.
“In terms of implementation, it is faster for the executive arm of government to make implementation,” he said, adding that there was the need for confidence-building between the police and the members of the public, particularly the youths.
Basiru also noted that the #EndSARS protests that have led to gridlocks which have grounded economic activities in most Nigerian cities are proof that the security apparatus of the country should be decentralised.
“Personally, as a senator from Osun Central, I have sponsored a constitutional review bill to have state police. I believe the country is so large, our security challenges are so huge and there is a need for us to marry the rule of law and human rights of our people and it is in this context that we will be able to address the issue,” he added.

The Saturday morning explosion that occurred on Otedola bridge in Lagos was not fatal.
The Lagos State Police Command made the confirmation in a statement.
The Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in an update, said the accident was recorded about 2.30am.
It involved two heavy duty vehicles – one laden with Premium Motor Spirit, aka Petrol and the other carrying a container at Otedola end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Preliminary findings revealed that container driver lost control and rammed into the PMS tanker.

“No life was lost. All efforts are on to ease traffic along the expressway,” the spokesman noted.
Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has visited the scene for on the spot assessment.
Aside the Police, other law enforcement and emergency agencies are on ground.
They include Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, and Lagos Emergency Management Agency.
