<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHWEDLvMJzxAGDjgUzQX9_pYGaKE4n1s5JYUIG3aPTHFYqfgK9D2tECCH-JQvhZ9uPG6DEDsyb3XS39Bh8LNGyEWGhZG4qO-YT4352C2RefpcKqXhNEzUW7P8cmrqSlazf0f9fg-y8HV4/s414/08382585-97A1-44EF-B712-B5B0F5553915.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="310" data-original-width="414" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHWEDLvMJzxAGDjgUzQX9_pYGaKE4n1s5JYUIG3aPTHFYqfgK9D2tECCH-JQvhZ9uPG6DEDsyb3XS39Bh8LNGyEWGhZG4qO-YT4352C2RefpcKqXhNEzUW7P8cmrqSlazf0f9fg-y8HV4/w400-h300/08382585-97A1-44EF-B712-B5B0F5553915.png" width="400" /></a></div> <p><br /></p> <p>Residents of Jalingo metropolis, the capital of Taraba State, are counting their losses following the havoc wrecked by the early morning rain fall which occurred today.</p> <p>The rain, which have started around 4 a.m on Saturday, lasted several hours, destroying several valuables.</p> <p>Apart from the houses that were submerged, farmlands, cars, business centers, as well as domestic animals, were swept away by the flood, which as at the time of filing this report, has continued to wreak more havoc.</p> <p>The popular Mayo-Gwua bridge, which is located in the heart of the state capital, was also not spared as the flood was noticed to have overrun it.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Vehicular movements have been distorted as both public and private vehicles coming in and out of Jalingo city are being compelled to seek alternative routes.</p> <p>Residents of the city lamented the loss of their valuables, saying all they worked for have been lost.</p> <p>Some of the affected persons, who bared their minds said their dreams have no doubt been dashed by the flood that took them unaware.</p> <p>Sani Baba, a farmer whose farmlands have been washed away told newsmen that “could you believe that just last week that I went and collected a loan of over N2million from one of the banks for farming?”</p> <p>With tears running down his cheeks, Baba said “all my dreams have been shattered ” as paying back the loan without the government and other individuals and groups coming to his aid seems impossible.</p> <p>The sad tales of Baba were not different from those of other persons affected by the disaster, who are all now cap in hand beckoning to both the state and federal government to come to their assistance.</p> <p>Local governments across the state had been flooded in similar fashion in 2012.</p> <p>As at the time of filing this report, the victims were yet to receive any help as they sought shelter at friends’ and relatives’ houses as well as public places and religious centers.</p>

The party has called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.</p> <p>Residents, however, suspect there may be reprisals should Kayode’s associates decide to take laws into their hands.</p> <p>There are also fears that the incident, if not well-managed, may result in conflicts at other local councils or motor parks.</p> <p>The deceased was an APC member and had reportedly declared support for one of the contestants.</p> <p>The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) will conduct elections into the 20 Local Government Councils and 35 Local Council Development Areas in two weeks.</p> <p>The final validation of documents for substituted and invalidated candidates will run from July 15 to July 17.</p> <p>The Notice of Election at ward collation centers will be published on July 16; campaigns will end on July 22. LASIEC fixed July 31 for possible run-off/re-run election(s).</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIyNdg2Ob9imF-uAt4TNX9YihrpGiq-qWXg_ge6m1DeLp0YoTMGKfQFsY0mhUWK6Zn7JNENfXw0CteuxXUeH37UQ7JPBkY9t-ZXR6qFGg_0xRbuYLUZyLKcmBdm20T2wZZK4e5kZNjR9Q/s414/CE8CEDD7-AA92-4688-A02A-63D0579B136B.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="232" data-original-width="414" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIyNdg2Ob9imF-uAt4TNX9YihrpGiq-qWXg_ge6m1DeLp0YoTMGKfQFsY0mhUWK6Zn7JNENfXw0CteuxXUeH37UQ7JPBkY9t-ZXR6qFGg_0xRbuYLUZyLKcmBdm20T2wZZK4e5kZNjR9Q/w400-h224/CE8CEDD7-AA92-4688-A02A-63D0579B136B.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div> <p><br /></p> <p>Two University students were jailed on Friday by a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, for offences bordering on cybercrime and romance scam.</p> <p>The convicts are final year students of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado Ekiti, Adeyemi Kehinde and 21-year-old student of Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete, Oladosun Olakunmi Olamilekan, who were convicted to various jail terms.</p> <p>They were arraigned on separate charges on Friday by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.</p> <p>Adeyemi, alias Queen Elizabeth, was charged on one count, while Oladosun was arraigned on three counts by the anti-graft agency before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The two defendants in their separate pleas, pleaded guilty to the charges against them.</p> <p>Upon their pleas, the prosecuting counsel, Sesan Ola, reviewed the facts of the cases through Lamidi Olarenwaju and Enoch Onyedikachi, who testified against the two convicts.</p> <p>The two witnesses who are operatives of the commission, told the court how intelligence reports led to the arrest of the convicts at the Ilorin International Airport.</p> <p>They tendered several fraudulent messages printed from their email addresses, the confessional statements of the defendants and the iPhones used as instruments of the crime, which were admitted in evidence by the court.</p> <p>In his judgement, Justice Sikiru Oyinloye, said the court was convinced that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, going by the plea of guilt entered by the defendants, and the unchallenged evidence of the prosecution.</p> <p>The judge, thereafter, pronounced Adeyemi guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine while ordering the forfeiture of his iPhone to the Federal government.</p> <p>In the case of Oladosun, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment on counts one and two, which will run concurrently or a fine of N100,000 each on the two counts.</p> <p>On count three, Justice Oyinloye, only ordered Oladosun to pay a fine of N20,000 with no custodial sentence.</p> <p>Additionally, the court also ordered the forfeiture of a N209,000 draft raised in Oladosun’s name and his iPhone to the Federal government.</p> <p>The charge sheet of Adeyemi Kehinde, indicated that in February 2020, in Ilorin, he dishonestly involved one Miller, a white man to send him card worth 400 US dollars, when he knowingly pretended to be a white lady called Queen Elizabeth Toha, who was in love with him, a representation he knew to be false as contained in his Google voice and Google Hangout linked to his Gmail account, queentoha18@gmail.com, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Penal code of Northern Nigeria.</p> <p>On Oladosun Olamilekan, (Joan Davis), he allegedly in March 2018, in Ilorin did cheat by personation when he pretended to be one Mike Storey, a white male with Gmail account mikestorey948@gmail.com and fraudulently deceived one Vicki Baldwin to send 300 US dollars worth of iTunes gift card and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal code.</p>

The facility is habitable.”</p>

We also said there should be capital punishment for corrupt people especially our political elite, it is happening in china,” Wabba said.</p> <p>He said it was high time the NLC collaborated with civil society organisations towards addressing the evils of corrupt practices in Nigeria.</p> <p>He said in other climes , the point of development was peoples centred approach.</p> <p>“In Nigeria, it is pocket centred approach, because politicians enrich themselves instead of the people,” Wabba said.</p> <p>He said Nigerians viewed politics as an investment attending to their own needs instead of that of the people.</p> <p>“The priority of our political elite is white elephant projects that do not have direct bearing on the lives of the people and in most cases those projects will end up as abandoned projects.</p> <p>“If you ask government officials today in the three tiers of government how many abandoned projects we have? Nobody can give you the correct account of those projects.</p> <p>“This is how those projects where initiated, this is how some of the funds are diverted and that is why we have mirage of projects that are abandoned,” he said.</p> <p>Mr Ezenwa Nwagwu, Convener, Say No Campaign and Executive Director, Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA), said the aim of the event was to fight corruption by ensuring budget implementation and service delivery.</p> <p>Nwagwu said the partnership became imperative because there were over 2000 abandoned projects across the country in spite of huge resources expended.</p> <p>Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), represented by Mr Obiora Igwedibia, a member of the board, commended the group for the initiative.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>The roundtable was the group’s seventh of such engagement in the country and it was sponsored by the Mac Arthur Foundation.</p>

Engineer Seyi Makinde, in exercising his constitutional right, has dissolved his cabinet. Further borrowing will lead to a disastrous debt bubble bust”, he warned in a statement.</p> <p>The presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 election said from $10.31billion at the end of June 2015, the total external debt increased to $32.85billion as at March 2021.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The Professor complained the total outstanding public debt stock increased by 173 percent in the same period, from N12.11trillion to N33.10trillion.</p> <p>Noting that on the average, over N3.6trillion is being added to the public debt annually, the expert observed infrastructure investment used to justify it have grossly under-performed.</p> <p>The ex-CBN chief said under a coordinated economic policy by a competent government, the debt capital outlay would have catalyzed private sector investments and sizeable foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into the economy.</p> <p>He insisted public-private partnerships should be the dominant approach to infrastructure development in Nigeria, not contract awards that, from information available on projects in Ghana and Ethiopia, are “overvalued”.</p> <p>The economist regretted that in the real situation of the incompetence of the government since 2015, businesses have been groaning and FDI inflows have decreased.</p> <p>Moghalu said instead of delivering economic growth, the economy has been twice in recession, and when out of it, growth has been underwhelming at 2 percent.</p> <p>His statement lamented how the national unemployment rate increased to 33.1 percent while youth unemployment has reached 42.5 percent in a few years.</p> <p>Moghalu urged the government to focus on increasing domestic revenue, by expanding the tax base – not by increasing rates as has been done with the value added tax (VAT) – and by introducing reforms for ease of paying taxes while abolishing multiple taxation.</p>

The woman is from Delta State where I also come from, but she is married to a Cross River man and she is representing Cross River and not Delta.</p> <p>“Since 2019 elections, I have removed myself from active politics and even in the ongoing APC membership drive, I didn’t register and currently, I am not a member of any political party,” she maintained.</p> <p>But checks from the affidavit she sworn on June 30, 2021, at the FCT High Court, Abuja, she clearly indicated that she remains a member of the APC and was an active participant in a United Kingdom election where she also contested. She equally disclosed her membership of President Muhammadu Buhari’s support organization.</p> <p>Part of the affidavit read: “That I am an educationist having served as Headmistress of Auntie Margaret International School, Calabar. We call it a brain disease because when you investigate the brain of someone with addiction, either to cannabis, alcohol or gambling, you can also actually see brain changes that are similar to other neuro-degenerative diseases,” Lasebikan said.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>However, the psychiatrist pointed out that the brain investigation can be carried out with special techniques and one can only determine addiction by its characteristics.</p> <p>“One of the characteristics is intense craving. When there’s this compulsion and difficulty in controlling the urge to do whatever you want to do such that it becomes a cycle, that is craving” he explained.</p> <p>He further explained that just like other forms of addictions, there are levels to gambling addiction.</p> <p>“There are people who gamble and bet for fun and it just remains there. Then at some point, it becomes a problem when it begins to affect your functioning, either your occupation, your family, or your social life.</p> <p>“Lastly, it becomes an addiction when it’s not just a problem but there is now a cycle. At this point, there’s an intense urge that you need to satisfy that urge to gamble,” Lasebikan explained.</p> <p>He further revealed that gambling addiction “rewires your brain such that it begins to control the gambler’s actions.</p> <p>He urged anyone who is seeking help for gambling addiction to consult a psychiatrist.</p>

Rimamnde Shawulu (PDP-Taraba), has urged the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, to resign following mass defection from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).</p> <p>Shawulu said this in a letter addressed to the chairman and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.</p> <p>He decried the rate at which the party was losing members to the ruling APC in recent times.</p> <p>Shawulu also urged members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resign.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“Today, unexpectedly, four members of the House of Representatives from Zamfara defected from the PDP to APC,” he said.</p> <p>He said unlike before, when leaders of the party at the House usually put up a form of protest, not a whisper was heard or a hand raised in protest against the defection.</p> <p>“Dear Chairman, Sir, events in the last two years call for sober reflection and sacrifices by both the leadership and membership of the party and it is necessary you set the ball rolling, so that the party will come back to life and be seen as a viable alternative to the ruling APC.</p> <p>“Then, will its doors be seen to be opened to the millions that want to come into the party to mobilise Nigerians to take back the country from the iniquitous forces that have seized it by the jugular.</p> <p>“This was the obvious wish of opinion of party members and leaders when Dr Adamu Muazu resigned as Chairman of the party. Your good self took over to enable the party regain momentum.</p> <p>“Presently, without discounting the efforts and sacrifices you have made, it is obvious that our party is in far worse circumstances than when Muazu fled the scene,” he said.</p> <p>Shawulu also reminded Secondus of the many failings of the PDP under his watch, which he said lend credence to some rumours that high ranking party members had allegedly been settled to make it unelectable in the future.</p> <p>He pleaded with Secondus to show leadership in the interest of the party and for the future of Nigeria and resign immediately as National Chairman.</p>

We are in a new era where the slogan of Otoge was orchestrated and we are happy that today, we have a new revolution in Kwara,” he said.</p> <p>Speaking, Oloriegbe assured they were very focused on the programme (Otoge) and working harmoniously with the governor.</p> <p>“The focus should be the people and not the individual holding position,” he said.</p> <p>The lawmaker added that the revalidation of the state party’s membership registration would commence on July 24.</p> <p>In his remarks, Sadiq said it is not abnormal to witness disagreements after the Otoge Movement helped the APC to take over power.</p> <p>“Kwara is still a strong and solid state that is looking to the future and the journey has started,” he stressed.</p>

The part went to then little known Egyptian actor Omar Sharif.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Kumar was born Mohammed Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar, Pakistan, then part of British-ruled India. His father was a fruit merchant who took his family to India’s entertainment capital in the 1930s.</p> <p>Actress Devika Rani spotted him on his father’s fruit stall in then Bombay, leading to a part in his first film, “Jwar Bhata”, in 1944.</p> <p>Rani persuaded him to change his name, so he chose Dilip Kumar, allowing him to hide what he was doing from his disapproving father.</p> <p>Although “Jwar Bhata” flopped and leading film magazines criticised his performance, Kumar was undeterred and broke through with the 1946 film “Milan”.</p> <p>Among his most remembered roles was the lavish historical romance “Mughal-e-Azam”, based on the life of a great Mughal prince. It became one of Bollywood’s biggest-grossing films of all time.</p> <p>Kumar, who cited Hollywood greats Marlon Brando, Gary Cooper and Spencer Tracy as influences, later won acclaim in 1964 for the nationalistic “Leader”, screened against a backdrop of recent wars against China and Pakistan.</p> <p>The 1970s saw fewer roles, as younger actors like Amitabh Bachchan, now the biggest star in India’s hugely prolific Hindi-language cinema industry, took centre stage.</p> <p>Kumar even took a five-year break after a string of flops, returning in 1981 with the hit “Kranti” (Revolution) and a part alongside Bachchan in “Shakti” (Strength) the following year, plus a string of character roles.</p> <p>Later Kumar took up a more active role in politics in 1998 and worked to end the feuding between India and Pakistan.</p> <p>The same year saw him receive the highest civilian honour in Pakistan, angering Hindu nationalists. Two years later he became a lawmaker for the Congress party.</p> <p>Kumar credited his successful career to his early days in Peshawar’s fabled Qissa Khwani (“Storytellers”) Bazaar where travellers would share tales of their adventures.</p> <p>Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday joined the tributes, thanking Kumar for help raising funds for a cancer charity and saying he was “the greatest and most versatile actor” for his generation.</p> <p>Unlike many actors who appeared in hundreds of films, Kumar carefully selected roles which by Indian standards only increased his stature in the fiercely competitive industry.</p> <p>In 2006 he accepted a lifetime achievement award at India’s National Film Awards in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema.</p> <p>Yet he still admitted that he was baffled at his success.</p> <p>“Honestly, I’ve still to figure out how an intensely shy young man called Yusuf Khan became the actor Dilip Kumar,” he told The Hindustan Times in an interview to mark his 85th birthday.</p> <p>Kumar also filed a case in the Supreme Court in the 1990s in support of lesbian love story “Fire” after cinemas were vandalised by Hindu fundamentalist groups.</p> <p>Kumar married the actress Saira Banu in 1966 when she was 22 years his junior.</p> <p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Kumar a “cinematic legend”.</p> <p>“He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance… His passing away is a loss to our cultural world,” Modi tweeted.</p> <p>Bachchan called him his “idol” while Anil Kapoor said he “was and will always be the finest & greatest actor of our industry for me”.</p> <p>Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi said his death was “a huge loss” while animal rights group PETA India said “animals everywhere have lost a great friend”.</p> <p>Preparations were being made for his funeral in Mumbai scheduled for later in the day. The area around his house was sealed off by police.</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajDqEpM8LX5EF1g35O7wllzWS7P3Ply4OJuXEvm-t_1x1k4irnzTTDBwvonPZXHeO8J6F3GM2UYnoYpf2qwstc-Ii-kW3dzgSPFE9hmHWXmknQigpk-HgKmQPyiVQYZOjgAnO5ZUVYO0/s600/B6CD6E9F-49E8-4F4A-BDD0-6B973CFC1461.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajDqEpM8LX5EF1g35O7wllzWS7P3Ply4OJuXEvm-t_1x1k4irnzTTDBwvonPZXHeO8J6F3GM2UYnoYpf2qwstc-Ii-kW3dzgSPFE9hmHWXmknQigpk-HgKmQPyiVQYZOjgAnO5ZUVYO0/w400-h300/B6CD6E9F-49E8-4F4A-BDD0-6B973CFC1461.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div> <p><br /></p> <p>Bangladesh High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Masudur Rahman, has called for collaboration in film making between his country’s movie industry and the Nigeria’s Nollywood.</p> <p>Rahman made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) on Tuesday in Abuja.</p> <p>The Envoy, who was received by the Executive Director/CEO of the Board, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, and his management team, said the visit was to build relationship with the NFVCB.</p> <p>According to him, such collaboration will further strengthen bilateral relationship between the two countries and also serve as a platform to further expose and grow both countries film industries.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>He said it would also promote exchange and transfer of cultural heritage.</p> <p>He said that both Nigeria and Bangladesh, as common wealth countries, had a lot of similarities in their journey to independence, history and culture.</p> <p>The Envoy added that collaboration in motion pictures would offer opportunities in telling their stories together.</p> <p>“Bangladesh and Nigeria have a lot of commonalities; as we are both secular countries colonized by the British, and then with similar historic and cultural heritage.</p> <p>“Many Nigerians are going to Bangladesh for education, sport, and now I want us to strengthen our relationship through film and culture,” he said.</p> <p>The High Commissioner noted that the Nigerian story and culture as showcased through Nollywood films were widely accepted in his country.</p> <p>He said that the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation would be willing to champion collaborations in acting, production, distribution and capacity building.</p> <p>Thomas, in his remarks, expressed delight in the High Commissioner’s visit and pledged the board’s willingness to work with him.</p> <p>He said that NFVCB regulated films and video industry in Nigeria.</p> <p>He noted that the Nigerian film industry had grown exponentially over the last decade as the industry was no longer for entertainment alone, but had offered great investment opportunities.</p> <p>The executive director said that the board under his watch was willing to champion collaborations between stakeholders in the Nigeria film industry and their foreign counterparts.</p> <p>He, however, decried the high rate of piracy as a major bane facing the evolving Nigerian moving industry, especially with the emergence of digital distribution platforms.</p> <p>“All the foreign films that are being sold in our markets today did not pass through censorship and classification.</p> <p>“So, they are illegal and the board has been carrying out raids to sanitise our industry of such products.</p> <p>“Collaboration such as this will present the right opportunity for both countries to legally distribute their films.</p> <p>“I strongly believe that government would provide policies and enabling environment for players in the industry and that is what President Buhari has done through the “Ease of Doing Business initiative”.</p> <p>“As a board, we will facilitate a meeting that will kick start the process, where our filmmakers will link your professionals for a co-productions and other collaborations,” he said.</p>

All the suspects returned to the EFCC Zonal Office again on Tuesday for further interrogation.”</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed the development.</p> <p>The invitation of the officials followed a petition alleging fraud in the handling of the Oyo Assembly finances written by a former prosecutor with the Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property, Tosin Ojaomo.</p> <p>It was gathered that in January explained how the procurement of 33 Toyota Camry cars for the House members and the Clerk at N759m as well as two Toyota Hilux pick-up vans for the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, at N40m was handled by the House leadership. </p> <p>According to the petition dated December 7, 2020, the contract also included purchase of two Toyota Prado Land Cruiser SUVs valued at N106m for the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi and as Ogundoyin’s back-up vehicles.</p> <p>Ojaomo, in his petition, alleged that the contract was for the supply of new 2019 vehicle models but noted that refurbished models with cleaned-up mileage were supplied instead.</p> <p>The lawyer claimed that the contract was fraudulently arranged to favour the contractor instead of Elizade Motors and Mandilas Motors which also tendered quotations.</p> <p>He added that the alleged scam was discovered when some of the 33 cars supplied by the contractor started having mechanical and electrical problems, few days after delivery to the lawmakers.</p> <p>Ojaomo, therefore, asked the EFCC to recover the full contract sum from the firm.</p>
