Mr Musa Wada, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the Kogi Governorship Election, has cast his vote with a call to the electorate to defend their votes. 
 
Wada and his elder brothers, former Governor Idris Wada, and Dr Ibrahim Wada, cast their votes at Odu Ward 4, Unit 001, Odu-Ogboyaga in Dekina Local Government Area of the state at about 9:15 a.m. 
 
Speaking shortly after casting his vote, the PDP governorship candidate urged the voters to stay tight and defend their votes, saying there was an attempt by “hooligans” to disrupt the exercise in one of the polling units earlier. 
 
On the conduct of the polls, Wada said, “It looks peaceful for now”.

“I have advised the voters to stay tight to defend their votes very well. So much security locks down. Police everywhere, this is because Anyigba is very volatile. 
 
“So,we advised that there should be proper security even at that, there were incidences of ballot box snatching. 
 
On his expectation, Wada said, by God’s grace he would be the winner, saying “ no matter what they do. What will be, will be”. 
 
The Polling Officer at the polling unit, Imokhuede Daniel, told Newsmen that the election was going on smoothly with accreditation and voting going on simultaneously. 
 
“As it stands now, the only problem we have is that at one of the polling points, we have 2015 stamp, we have complained and it will be corrected although it will not have any effect because we will countersign with today’s date, ” Daniel said.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has written to the National Assembly, warning of the consequence of passing a bill which stipulates death penalty for hate speech. 
 
The bill, which is sponsored by Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger North), has already scaled the first reading at the Senate. Titled: “National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speeches (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2019”, the bill also proposes the setting up of a Commission on hate speech. 
 
In a letter to the National Assembly, titled: “Is it now cool to kill?– An anguished letter to Nigerian Lawmakers,” Soyinka said though, he is against Fake News and other debiitating vices on social media, he would not subscribe to pronouncing dead penalty for hate speech. 
 
“I hope you will excuse me for distracting you from your onerous duties, but I am a current sufferer – and I am not alone – from a persistent nightmare. That affliction has been induced by your most recent approach to addressing an acknowledged problem that affects, not only Nigerians, but the entire global community. The nightmare consists of the fear of waking up one morning to discover that one’s name has been cited among those helpless victims on behalf of whom a repellent legislation is about to be enacted.

“The likelihood in my case is especially acute. Yes, indeed, it is no Fake News that I have denounced the purveyors of public lies and hate material as the very scum of the earth. I have called them names that come close to enrolling me among the very reprobates we all so fervently denounce. From Abuja, through Paris, London, Sochi, Dar es Salaam, Chandrigah, etc. etc., I have utilized every available platform to highlight their perverse mentality and call for concerted action against their hyper-activism against humanity in general. I have singled out the Nigerian species of this criminal pursuit as an especially virulent breed, as a subhuman aberration without conscience, incapable of remorse, sustained by abnormal reserves of sadism. 
 
“I have closed down dozens of fake sites instituted over my name, and set in motion mechanisms for the pursuit of those who steal my identity, even where the content is quite harmless, even positive. Only recently, in Paris, I proposed that judicial mitigation under the recognition of crime passionnel should be considered for victims of Fake News who ‘lose control’ on physically encountering their violators. As you may have discerned so far, I again, and unapologetically, exploit this very development to reiterate my detestation and contempt for such pestilences that plague our humanity,” he said in the letter. 
 
Soyinka urged the lawmaker to consider more deeply the path on which they had chosen to embark and invited them to reflect quite objectively on the company into which they were about to throw yourselves, and the consequences for the very nation they represent – including its social psyche. 
 
According to him, the lawmakers were about to corrupt youthful impression, to join the brigade of closet psychopaths for whom the only solution to any social malaise from the trite to the profoundly” affective is – Kill! Is this what humanity and society are all about?” 
 
“You are psyching up your ranks to pronounce yourselves affiliates of inhuman aberrations such as Boko Haram, Isis (Da’esh), al Shabbab, nomadic cow herders etc. etc. for whom killing is the only response for real or imagined wrongs, perceptions of entitlement and/or deprivation, sense of righteousness and generally – concept of a thoroughly sanitized community of mortals. You are sending out applications to join the ranks of those inadequate males who believe that the only cure for adultery is to b”ury a woman up to her neck in earth and reduce her head to a pulp under a rain of stones. 
 
“You affirm yourselves – not for the first time, alas! –allies of those who believe that death is the appropriate cure for that physiological conditioning which, through no fault of theirs, attract them to others of the same sex. You pronounce yourselves clones of demented rulers like Yahayah Jahmeh of Gambia who preached that we all cut off the heads of homosexuals and poison alleged witches– and so on and on down a dismal list of silent, instinctive killers who have somehow managed to manipulate themselves into the corridors of ‘legitimatized’ – or illicit recesses of – Power and Force. 
 
“By the way, are you aware that a school of thought passionately believes that thieves such as Yahayah Jahmeh, formerly of Gambia, Omar Bashir of the Sudan etc in company of numerous members of African leadership elite, including this very Nigerian society, deserve no less than the death penalty for pilfering public resources, and on a scale that continues to stagger even the most inured in this nation? Do you really, as presumably analytical minds believe that a facile and final recourse to the gallows or a fusillade of bullets at the stake, is the sole remedy to the phenomenon of the diffuse classifications possible under the abuse of communication and the sowing of hate among people? 
 
“How precise is the definition of ‘hate’ when it becomes a yardstick for the extinction of even one human life? Haunting, hopefully, our collective conscience as a nation, even till today, is recollection of a clique of social army reformers who instituted, and carried out the execution citizens under a retroactive law. Yet others wiped out entire communities as collective punishment for the loss of members of their elite class, the military. And surely it is too soon to dismiss memory of the mass decimation of a religious group, the Shi’ites, for obstructing the passage of a motorcade of that same elite class. These are classic instances of murder, albeit under the immunity of power legitimation,” he stated. 
 
He added that “Your motivations are also spectacularly dubious. Silencing the voices of criticism is a perennial preoccupation of power, but we know that a far more penetrative form of death, spelling the end of social vitality and relevance is incurred when human voices are silenced. Try and imagine how many “deserved” executions would be taking place in this nation right now – beginning with nearly all of you in the exalted homes of legislation – if Boko Haram had succeeded in subjugating this nation under its creed. 
 
“Well, do not even bother with imagination, which is not as common a faculty as we tend to assume –simply check with neighbouring Mali how many, convicted of crimes against faith, Mr. Answar Dine eliminated during his brief sway in northern Mali. Or remain within this nation itself – check the statistics of death inflicted from indiscriminate bombings of the thriving concourses of humanity – schools, markets, motor parks, media houses, churches, mosques, shrines by believers in the doctrine of death as divine solution to the very crime of existence outside their narrow and perverted set of beliefs. Consider the fate of Uganda if Joseph Kony had indeed succeeded in his mission of converting Ugandans to his doctrine of – Salvation or Death!” 
 
Soyinka said these were not imaginary scenarios, stressing that, that quick but facile option – killing – had become the current emblem of this very nation, effectively replacing the green-white-green, lamenting that something had collapsed. 
 
He noted that the carefully calibrated structures of fellow feeling, supposedly inculcated from infancy, lied in ruins, as life wass now held cheap, casual, and trite. 
 
He said “students kill for the thrill of it, and for assertion of cultic supremacy. Kidnappers collect ransom, yet kill. They kill even intermediary couriers. Fetishists kill in pursuit of illusions of instant wealth. Others, highly placed, kill for political office, and yet others to cover up criminalities by the deployment of killers. You cannot claim ignorance that there have been identified, over the past few decades, consortiums of killers who actually advertise their trade in select circles and canvass for clients. Your businessmen – and women – have used them. So have politicians. 
 
“And now, you wish to add, to this culture of rampaging morbidity, the state empowered deaths of those dregs of society who titillate themselves with corrosive narratives from diseased minds, and boost their meaningless lives with the degradation of others? Are they even worth the cost of the hangman’s noose? No. True, governance has a responsibility to protect its citizens, but social malefactors must be fought and neutralized through far more painstaking methods. Reformed if possible, exposed and publicly humiliated, punished and compelled to make restitution where their actions have caused pain, anguish and destruction. That option, we know, is the more arduous path, but then, where did you obtain the notion that you were elected to occupy cushy, stress-free arm-chairs?” 
 
Soyinka realled that when a section of this national community wanted to execute a lady called Safiyat for alleged adultery some years ago – and through the singularly revolting means of stoning to death – the nation rose above religious partisanship in repudiation of this barbaric trivialization of human life, saying that “we continue to rail against the solution of death as penalty against those whose sexual orientation is different from ours, and thereby offends the sensibilities of others. I await persuasion, offered through objective, not emotive arguments, that this new extension of the homicidal imperative is fundamentally different from those other globally repudiated candidates for the killing route to social sanitation.” 
 
“For now, may I passionately plead with you to consider that the coarsening and debasement of youth sensibility – already too far gone – through the trivialization of life – is a spectre that may return to haunt you if coming generations are taught that it is “cool to kill”. Remember that example, especially by leadership, is a hundred times more explicit and enduring than the mere propagation of any counter-doctrine. Do not embrace the awful responsibility of impressing homicide as a way of life on the ethical template of coming generations. The chickens have a way of coming home to roost. I may be wrong of course, but their droppings already foul the common air we all breathe. Just take a deep breath, look around you, and re-consider,’ he stated.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has concluded arrangement to pay N35,000 as the new minimum wage for workers beginning from November, 2019. 
 
The decision was arrived at after series of meetings and discussions between the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) and Lagos State Government as witnessed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the payment of the New Minimum Wage to Lagos State Public Sector Workers on Friday. 
 
Comrade Rasaq Adio Falade, State Chairman, JNC said necessary terms of settlement and agreement were reached after the end of the meeting on Friday. 
 
The National Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (NJPSNC) and the Federal Government’s Negotiations and Consequential Adjustment of Salaries had produced the following figures on Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS): GL. 01-06=N30,000; GL. 07=23.2%; GL. 08=20%; GL. 09=19%; GL. 10-14=16% and GL. 15-17=14%.

However, Falade said in consonance with the pronouncements of Sanwo-Olu, the government agreed to pay N35,000 as minimum wage. 
 
He said government had agreed to pay GL. 01-06=N35,000.09;. GL. 07=30%; GL. 08-10=25%; GL. 12-14=22.5% and GL. 15-17=20%. 
 
Falade added that payment of allowances peculiar to certain professions/sectors such as health workers, medical personnel, teachers, and so on, embedded in their respective Consolidated Salary Structures (e.g. CONHESS, CONMESS, CONTISS, etc) shall be paid for those stated items (e.g. Hazard, Call, Shift, etc) at such rates as provided in the various salaries of government approved in 2011. 
 
He disclosed that the payment of the New Minimum Wage at the consequential adjustment rates shall commence in Lagos State in the November, 2019 salary cycle. 
 
“The New Minimum Wage Act came into effect on the 18th April, 2019 as such, it was agreed that payment of the six and half months arrears shall be made and concluded by the first quarter of year 2020,” he said.

The Kano State Police Command said on Friday it has rescued a four-year-old boy, Abdulrahman Dalha who was kidnapped at Zangon Rimi quarters in Ungoggo Local Government Area of the state. 
 
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the rescue of the boy in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Friday. 
 
According to Haruna, “a complaint was received on Nov. 10 at about 1500hrs at Zango Police Division that unknown persons have kidnapped one Abdulrahman Dalha, a four year old boy of Zango quarters, Ungoggo LGA of Kano State, demanding N4 million as ransom. 
 
He said the command’s Anti-kidnapping team of Operation Puff-Adder was immediately mobilised and directed to track down, arrest and bring the perpetrators to book within 24 hours.

He said the operatives swung into action and arrested the principal suspect at Zangon Dakata quarters while planning to collect the ransom. 
 
The Police spokesman said the principal suspect, Anas Isa, 22, confessed to the commission of the crime and led Puff-Adder operatives to the house of his aunty at Inusawa village in Ungoggo Local Government Area where the kidnapped victim was rescued. 
 
“His accomplice, Umar Hassan popularly known as Liman of Zangon Rimi, a relative to the victim was apprehended. 
 
“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded, “ he said. 
 
He, therefore, called on the residents of the state to continue to cooperate with the police by giving timely information for prompt response.

Tension remains very high as voters in Bayelsa and Kogi states file out today to decide who takes charge of the administration of their states in the next four years. 
 
Only yesterday, it was widely reported in the media how gunmen reportedly dressed in police uniforms on Friday stormed the Suitoral Hotel, Lokoja, the state capital where Oyo state governor and Chairman of the PDP Campaign Council, Seyi Makinde, was lodged. 
 
The masked gunmen could not gain access into the main hotel as they were repelled by security men attached to Governor Makinde. 
 
However, it was revealed that Governor Makinde was not the target as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Wada, was within the precincts of the hotel to hold discussion with his guest, Governor Makinde.

As at the time TNG field this report, tough-looking security agents were seen on the streets of Yenagoa and Lokoja, while residents and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plead with the political parties for peaceful poll. 
 
In Bayelsa State, the governorship election is a straight fight between Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC). 
 
Lyon, who had earlier been disqualified by a Federal High Court in Bayelsa State on Thursday, got a lifeline yesterday from an Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, which ordered INEC not to remove him from the ballot. The court gave the order following an ex parte motion filed by his counsel on Thursday. 
 
In Kogi State, incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello of the APC has Musa Wada of the PDP to contend with. 
 
Incidents of violence and intemperate use of language have characterised the campaigns leading to today’s elections. In some cases, lives were lost. 
 
Nevertheless, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu assured voters in both states of maximum security. Speaking on Tuesday in Lokoja, Adamu said security operatives on election duties would not hesitate to gun down any unauthorised person attempting to use firearm in any part of Kogi State during the ongoing electioneering process. 
 
Adamu gave the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting/signing of Peace Accord among political parties and candidates, organised by INEC. 
 
The police boss, who spoke after INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had delivered his address, also warned policemen on guard duties with politicians not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to perpetrate illegality on the election day. 
 
He warned that any policeman caught roaming the street without proper authorisation would be arrested. 
 
He assured the general public that the police would be professional and ready to provide a level playing ground for all parties and participants, adding that the police and other security operatives on election duty would protect all INEC and other electoral officials, as well as materials for the exercise, against attacks.

Counsels to the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar are absent at the supreme Court where the reasons for dismissing their petitions is presently being read. 
 
Recall that the apex court had dismissed their appeal on 30th October and promised to give full reasons on a different date. 
 
At the resumed sitting this morning, one of the counsels to President Muhammadu Buhari,  Alex Iziyon drew the attention of the court to the absence of the PDP and their counsels, saying it is against the practice to read a judgement in the absence of the appellants. 
 
However, presiding judge, Justice John Inyang Okoro said the PDP and Atiku’s counsel were all served with court notices on Wednesday and their absence cannot stop the court from reading the reasons for the judgement.

The Police Command in Bayelsa, has assured of its readiness to provide adequate security during Saturday’s governorship election in the state. 
 
SP Asnim Butswat, Spokesman for the Command disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Yenogoa. 
 
He said that the Command had put in place a robust security arrangement to ensure peaceful conduct of the election. 
 
Butswat urged political parties to play by the rules as the police would not hesitate to wield the big stick to forestall security breach.

He said restriction of movement across the state will commence at midnight. 
 
“Political parties and their supporters are hereby warned to desist from engaging in any act of violence capable of disrupting the poll. They are further advised to abide by the Peace Accord they earlier signed and to cooperate with security agencies. 
 
“Security agencies have been ordered to enforce restriction of movement both on land and on waterways, as from 12 midnight of Nov. 15 to 7p.m., of Nov.17, 2019. 
 
“Movement of persons, vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles will be restricted as from 12 midnight of Nov. 15 to the end of the voting. 
 
“The electorate are advised to come out and exercise their franchise by casting their votes for candidates of their choice,” Butswat said. 
 
NAN reports that 31,000 policemen have been deployed to the state by the police high command to provide security during the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says no voter will be allowed to vote without voter card recognised by the Smart Card Reader in the Nov. 16 elections in Bayelsa and Kogi. 
 
Prof. James Apam, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), told NAN on the sideline of a one-day Training on Election Duties, organised by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its Staff at Kogi Sector Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

Speaking on behalf of Apam, Mr Olugbenga Ajayi, a staff officer of the commission, warned that no person would be allowed to vote without being accredited using the card reader. 
 
“We keep learning everyday; and we want to obey what we have said as electoral umpire; if card reader cannot identify you, you cannot vote. 
 
“It is either card reader or no voting in Kogi and Bayelsa elections; anything apart from the use of card reader for accreditation and voting will be disqualified. 
 
“No manual accreditation would be allowed; it is either card reader or no voting,” he reiterated. 
 
He enjoined all the personnel participating in the elections to conduct themselves very well and not to compromise but respect their dignity and protect the sanctity of the elections. 
 
He further urged other security personnel to adequately secure electoral staff and election materials, saying all eyes are on Kogi and Bayelsa elections. 
 
He also called for timely arrival of security personnel at INEC Local Government Secretariat, who would be escorting their staff and election materials to INEC Registration Area Centre (RAC) for timely dispatched. 
 
“We urged the security personnel to live by the oath they swore to and not chasing after politicians for money,” he said.

Mr Stanley Imhanruor, a lawyer in the defence team of the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, on Thursday took a swipe at the Department of State Services for refusing to release his clients from custody in violation of the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja. 
 
Imhanruor, in a statement sent to our correspondent on Thursday, described the DSS conduct as crude, adding that the agency had brought shame to Nigeria in the comity of civilised nations. 
 
He said, “For the records, the worst form of corruption is disobedience of court orders by public officers and institutions. It is therefore shameful, hypocritical and benumbing that a government that claims to be fighting corruption is now notorious for disobedience of court orders.”

Calling for the release of the SaharaReporters publisher and Bakare, Imhanruor said the court order for the release of the defendants must be obeyed. 
 
He stated, “To say the least, the DSS has brought shame on us as a people in the comity of civilised nations. This country belongs to all of us and not just a set of people who are privileged to be at the helm of affairs presently. 
 
“The order of court directing the DSS to release the defendants must be obeyed by the DSS irrespective of whoever maybe wearing a frowning face. That is how democracy and the rule of law thrive and Nigeria should not be an exception.” 
 
Imhanruor faulted the latest of the DSS’ excuses that it had not released the two men from custody because their sureties were not available to receive them. 
 
He said by imposing a condition that was not part of the ones imposed by the Federal High Court, the DSS was trying to constitute itself into an appellate court. 
 
Describing the conduct of the DSS as crude, he vowed that he and the defence team led by Mr Femi Falana (SAN), would not bow to the agency’s intimidation. 
 
He stated, “The DSS then ridiculously accused our lead counsel, the highly respected Femi Falana, SAN, of playing to the gallery simply because the learned silk called on the DSS to release the defendants from illegal custody without further delay and in line with the order of court. 
 
“It is crude and antiquated for the DSS to think that everyone will yield to its antics of crass intimidation and oppression. 
 
“The DSS is not an appellate court and as such cannot sit on appeal over the decision of the court by giving fresh conditions for the release of the defendants who have since fulfilled their bail conditions as imposed by the court. 
 
“Even in the days of military dictatorship, court orders were obeyed, let alone in a democracy. It is about time the DSS shielded its pre-colonial mentality.”

The House of Representatives has okayed compulsory genotype tests for intending couples as part of measures to prevent sickle cell disease. 
 
The House charged government registries, churches and mosques to demand the tests before joining persons as husband and wife.

This is part of the resolutions passed by the lawmakers at the plenary on Thursday when they unanimously adopted a motion moved by Mr Umar Sarki, titled ‘Call on the Federal Ministry of Health to develop an efficient system for management of sickle cell disease in Nigeria.’ 
 
Adopting the motion, the House called on the Federal Ministry of Health to introduce free and compulsory new-born screening programme, which will include screening for sickle cell disease in all hospitals in Nigeria. 
 
The House also called on the ministry to provide free treatment and counselling service to patients with sickle cell disease, while asking it to “sensitise religious institutions and the judiciary to include results of genotype tests as one of the conditions for marriage.” 
 
They also urged the Federal Ministry of Education to include sickle cell education in science subjects in all primary and secondary schools, while mandating the House committees on Health Care Services, Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, and Basic Education and Services to ensure implementation of the resolutions. 
 
Moving the motion, Sarki said, “Archaeological and genetic findings have shown that sickle cell disease has been with Africans for the last 12,000 years, yet not much has been done in the continent to manage the scourge. 
 
“Data from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has shown that Nigeria has the largest population of people with sickle cell disease in the world, with about 3.6 million patients and 150,000 babies out of the estimated 300,000 babies born into the world with the disease every year. 
 
Meanwhile, the House has called for the rehabilitation of the primary health care centres across Nigeria. 
 
The call followed the adoption of a motion moved by Mr Taofeek Ajilesoro, titled ‘Rehabilitation of primary health care centres across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory for effective health care service delivery.’ 
 
Adopting the motion, the House urged the Federal Ministry of Health to commence the rehabilitation and equipping of primary health care centres across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT for effective health care delivery. 
 
On Thursday also, the house approved the virement of N100m meant for personnel cost of the National Assembly Service Commission to capital and overhead costs. 
 
The approval at the plenary followed the adoption of a motion moved by a member, Mr Sani Bala, who said the personnel for which the money was appropriated had not been engaged. 
 
Bala’s motion was titled ‘Need to vire the sum of N100,000,000 from the National Assembly Service Commission’s personnel vote to capital and overhead cost. 
 
The lawmaker prayed the House to vire the sum of N100m “to enable the commission utilise the fund appropriately,” a prayer that was unanimously granted. 
 
Bala said, “The House notes that in 2019, the NASC budgeted the sum of N100m for its personnel cost for the payment of salaries and allowances of the expected new members of the commission. 
 
“The expected new members have not been appointed and are not likely to resume before January 2020, thereby leaving the sum of N100m as the commission’s personnel cost may not be utilised by the end of December, 2019. 
 
“It is mandatory for all ministries, departments and agencies to return all their unspent personnel cost to the Treasury Single Account by the end of December, 2019. 
 
“The commission is in dire need of funds, as most of its furniture and sundry office equipment are in poor condition as they were purchased over 10 years ago.”’

 Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has described the signals from Bayelsa and Kogi states as worrisome, saying that only electronic voting process could stop thuggery, violence during elections in Nigeria. 
 
Jonathan expressed sadness that people were already being killed when election had not begun, adding that the only way out was electronic voting. 
 
He spoke in Port Harcourt on Thursday during the presentation of a book authored by a former deputy governor of Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Toby, titled ‘In the Cause of Service: Memoir of Gabriel Tamunobiebere George Toby’.

The former President stressed that the people would be able to elect those they believed in should the country begin to vote electronically. 
 
He expressed optimism that electronic voting would work in Nigeria, owing to the fact that several Nigerians transferred billions of dollars from one bank to the other through electronic means. 
 
“Look at what is happening now; we have governorship elections in two states in Kogi and Bayelsa. The signals coming from both are quite disturbing. 
 
“The use of thugs, shooting guns and our people are already being killed when the voting process has not even started is disturbing. This would not happen if we have got to a point in this country where voter card matters. 
 
“That is why I have always advocated electronic voting. We must go into electronic voting. If people these days can transfer billions of dollars from one bank to the other, using electronic means, then I believe that we can do electronic voting perfectly and that will ensure that the use of thugs during elections would not come up again.” 
 
Jonathan further noted that political offices in the country did not change their holders, rather, the people with low integrity were being voted into offices. 
 
He added that when the country developed to a point where voter card mattered, politicians would mend their ways. 
 
“My opinion is that people don’t change when they get into political office; we vote people that we don’t know into offices and it is difficult to know the true character of a person; it is hard to understand, but the fact is we don’t really vote people we know. People tend to use different means to get into office. 
 
“When we develop as a nation to the point where our voter cards matter, where the people can vote, who they believe in, the behaviour of the politicians would change; politicians would stop recruiting group of boys and feeding them like dogs, calling them thugs to be used for elections while their children attend the best universities abroad,” the ex-President added. 
 Police warn troublemakers 
 
In Kogi State, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operation), AbdulMajeed Ali, warned those planning to snatch ballot boxes during Saturday’s elections. 
 
Addressing a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday, Ali said that the Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu, had deployed enough personnel to adequately police the state and deal with any eventuality during the election. 
 
The DIG stated, “We are determined to provide an enabling environment for a peaceful election. We are tired of being held to ransom in Kogi and Bayelsa states at the turn of every election, we will put a stop to that this time around”. 
 
He said that the police had undertaken a security threat assessment in both Kogi and Bayelsa states and had identified possible risks, located trouble spots, and classified individuals and groups that could constitute security challenges to the process. 
 
Ali said, “The outcome of this intelligence-driven initiative guided our election deployment plans and informed our post-election security projections. 
 
The DIG said that the police were determined to create an environment that was secure and peaceful enough to give confidence to the political actors to undertake their campaigns and other political activities and for the citizens to freely exercise their electoral franchise.” 
 Kogi PDP, APC trade blame ‘imported thugs’ 
 
TheMusa Wada/Sam Aro Campaign Organisation of the PDP raised the alarm that thugs had been ‘imported’ into Kogi State by the APC. 
 
The Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign organisation, Mr Frank Adejoh-Audu, in a statement, urged the police to quickly arrest and flush out the hoodlums before their presence. 
 
He said, “Our campaign has been told by insiders in the Bello camp, of how the hoodlums were brought in from other APC states, with instructions to unleash violence, including killing, harassment and snatching of ballot boxes to derail the smooth conduct of the election and ensure that votes do not count.” 
 
But the APC urged the PDP to stop spreading rumours and fake news. The Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Bello/ Onoja Campaign Council, Mr Kingsley Fanwo spoke while addressing journalists after the APC mega rally in Lokoja,. 
 
He charged security agencies to fish out the “imported killers.” He accused the PDP of importing thugs into the state. 
 
According to him, the PDP raised “false alarm” to scare voters from coming out to exercise their franchise. 
 PDP alleges OPC invasion of Kogi 
 
On Thursday, the Kogi State PDP Campaign Council raised the alarm that members of the Oodua Peoples Congress had allegedly invaded Kogi West and Kogi East senatorial districts for the governorship election in the state. 
 
The Deputy Director, Public Communication of the campaign council, Mr. Austin Okai, in a statement, sought the intervention of traditional rulers over the alleged invasion. 
 
He said the OPC members were brought into the state from Ekiti State to cause mayhem during the election. 
 
He also alleged that the OPC members were brought to aid the alleged rigging plans of the All Progressives Congress in the Saturday election. 
 
According to him, the OPC members, who would wear fake military uniforms were brought to the Kogi West and Kogi East to stifle the opposition and ensure the victory of Governor Yahaya Bello. 
 
He appealed to the Department of State Services to be weary of the antics of the people that were determined to cause crisis during the election, particularly in the strongholds of the opposition. 
 
He said the OPC members had already been drafted to strategic areas of the state with the aim of taking instructions from government on how to perpetrate their illegal acts. 
 
He pleaded with the traditional rulers, as the custodians of the society, to prevail upon the governor not to throw the state into crisis. 
 
Efforts to get the response of the media aide to the Kogi State Governor, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, proved abortive as his mobile indicated it was not available. He had yet to respond to a text message on the subject as of the time of sending this report.

A group of gunmen have abducted a worker with the Nigerian Television Authority, Abiodun Adenuga, in his Aiyepe residence in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. 
 
A family source revealed that Adenuga was abducted around 10pm on Tuesday at his house where the gunmen held him at gunpoint and whisked him away. 
 
He was reportedly abducted after he returned from the NTA Ijebu-Ode office.

According to the source, although the abductors had opened negotiations with the family, they refused to reduce the money.

Oyeyemi said the command was aware that someone was kidnapped in Aiyepe on Tuesday. 
 
The PPRO disclosed that the abductors lured the victim out of his house by switching off his generator. 
 
He said, “The command is aware of a case of abduction of somebody. We don’t know whether he is an NTA worker or not. 
 
“We learnt that the abductors switched off the victim’s generator and when he went out to put it on, he was grabbed and taken away. 
 
“We have swung into action and we are on their trail. Very soon, we will apprehend them.”

The luncheon with theme, ‘The forum for resolution of civil disputes: The courts v law enforcement agencies,’ was chaired by Justice Amina Augie of the Supreme Court, who was represented by Justice Helen Ogunwumiju of the Court of Appeal, while a former Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr Olasupo Shasore (SAN), presented the lead paper. 
 
Owoseni was on the panel of discussants alongside Justice Biobele Georgewill of the Court of Appeal and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos branch, Mr Lateef Akangbe. 
 
While responding to the lead paper, Owoseni bemoaned what he described as abuse of office and disregard for the rule of law, saying the EFCC had become a monster. 
 
He said, “The rule of law and the application and the enforcement is interpreted based on which side of the divide you are. If you are any of these governors today, the rule of law is something to you; if you become the Vice-President today, the rule of law is another thing to you; and we are seeing it.” 
 
Owoseni traced the origin of the EFCC to the Task Force on Trade Malpractices, which he described as a self-serving body created purposefully to criminalise civil disputes. 
 
He said, “That task force was used to seize properties, to do all sorts of things and that was what metamorphosed into the EFCC. Depending on which side of the divide you belong, to some of us, the EFCC has become a monster.” 
 
In his contribution, Justice Georgewill knocked the police and the EFCC for the practice of making arrest before investigation. 
 
The Justice said, “In civilised societies, you don’t arrest, detain and investigate; no! You investigate, arrest and detain. But here, you arrest before you investigate; you detain before you investigate. You are supposed to conduct preliminary investigation before you arrest somebody. It is so unfortunate, the police and the EFCC, you have to stop.”

“He was killed by police bullet that pierced the centre of his heart when they indiscriminately shot into the crowd with an aim to kill.” 
 
But the police in Kaduna State said a combined operation with the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corpse, dispersed the outlawed group professionally without any casualty. 
 
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, said the force had no encounter with the IMN members and no casualty as well. 
 
The police chief said, “Yes, we received reports at about 1545hrs that some members of the outlawed Islamic Movement of Nigeria were sighted at the Central area of Kaduna metropolis and our operatives promptly responded. 
 
“However, on sighting security agents, the protesters melted into the mass population of men and women who were minding their legitimate businesses within the market area. There was no encounter whatsoever with the police and no casualty was recorded as well. 
 
“Furthermore, a similar violent procession was carried out in Zaria today by the banned IMN group and it took the gallant efforts of security agents comprising the Police, Army and the Civil Defence to disperse the protesters and ensure public order and safety. No casuality was recorded as well.”

A suit challenging whether the Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, is fit to contest for the Nov. 16 governorship election in the state will tomorrow, Friday, come up at the Federal High Court, Abuja. 
 
The originating summon, which is instituted by Natasha Akpoti, the Social Democratic Party (SDP)’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming poll, will be mentioned at Court 5 before Justice Inyang Ekwo. 
 
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while SDP candidate is the plaintiff, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are 1st and 2nd defendants respectively. 
 
The suit, dated Oct. 10 and marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1221/2019, filed by Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, on Akpoti’s behalf, sought the court’s determination on the eligibility of Governor Bello in the Saturday election, having allegedly involved in double registration as a voter.

Akpoti said “that by his wilful act of making double registration as a voter, Yahaya Bello, candidate of the 1st defendant is not a fit and proper person to be allowed by the 2nd defendant to vote or be voted for in the forthcoming Kogi state governorship election, having committed act of electoral fraud. 
 
“That Mr. Yahaya Bella. the candidate of the 1st Defendant. was initially registered as a voter sometime in 2011 in Abuja, by the 2nd defendant. 
 
“That  Bello. the candidate of the 1st defendant again fraudulently procured from the 2nd defendant. a second registration as a voter on 23rd May,. 2017, at Government House. Lokoja, while his 2011 first registration as a voter in Abuja was still live, extant and subsisting. 
 
“That the said Yahaya Bello, the candidate of the 1st defendant carried out the double registration with the 2nd defendant so as to scuttle due electoral process. 
 
“That such a person is not a fit and proper person to vote for in any election, let alone for the high office of the governor of a state.” 
 
Justice Ekwo had, on Tuesday, delivered judgment, disqualifying the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate in Bayelsa, Sen. Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, over false information given in his CF0001 Form submitted to INEC for the Saturday’s poll.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, told an FCT High Court that the agency will seek a court order for separate trial for former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) from seven other defendants. 
 
Dasuki is being tried in two separate cases alongside other defendants before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf by EFCC since 2015 on alleged misappropriation of fund made arms. 
 
At the resumed sitting in case FCT/HC/CR/43/2015, EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, expressed frustration over the continuous absence of Dasuki, who is the first defendant in the case. 
 
He informed the court that the prosecution had filed a motion dated Nov. 4, seeking the continuation of trial in Dasuki’s absence, adding that the prosecution was served with a counter affidavit this morning.

Jacobs, however, said that the best thing to do in the present circumstance was the unbundling of the case so that Dasuki would be separated from other defendants. 
 
He Lamented the frustration with going on with the case, and said, “We can’t be in the same place for four years without moving.” 
 
He, therefore, told the court that the charge against the defendants might be amended to remove Dasuki’s name to enable other defendants face their trial without further delays. 
 
He said that he would file separates charge against other defendants in both cases in which Dasuki is involved before the court and sought for an adjournment to do so. 
 
Responding to this, counsel for Baba-Kusa, Mr Solomon Umoh, SAN, submitted that what the Jacobs was suggesting did not have any place in the book. 
 
Umoh, said Dasuki is central to the charge against other defendants, adding that, “if he is separated, how can we get a fair hearing?” 
 
Justice Baba-Yusuf, however, gave an open adjournment and asked the prosecution to file the amendment and serve same on the defendants for them to come to court and take their fresh plea. 
 
In another development, Umoh made an oral application for the release of Baba-Kusa’s international passport to enable him perform Umrah (lesser Hajj). 
 
This was not opposed by the prosecution, Jacobs stated that the second defendant had been abiding with the court’s directive. 
 
NAN reports that in the first case, with number FCT/HC/CR/42/2015, he was charged alongside a former Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda; a former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, his son, Sagir and his company, Dalhatu Investment Limited. 
 
They are facing a 25-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of public fund to the tune N19.4 billion. 
 
In the second case, numbered FCT/HC/CR/43/2015, Dasuki is facing trial alongside a former General Manager, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Baba- Kusa and two firms: Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited. 
 
They were first charged in November, 2015 on a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering and breach of trust to the tune of N13.5 billion alongside a former Director of Finance and Administration, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Shuaibu Salisu, who was later removed from the charge. 
 
Other defendants were on May 16, 2018 re-arraigned on an amended 32-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, dishonest release and receiving various sums of money to the tune of N33.2 billion misappropriation. 
 
NAN reports that, for sometimes now, hearing of both cases was being stalled by the continued absence of Dasuki in court. 
 
EFCC told the court on that Dusuki vowed that he would not appear in court for trial until such a time the government comply with the court order releasing him from the custody of the Department of State Service on bail.

Some sports stakeholders in Nasarawa state on Thursday observed that the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in local football fixtures in the country would fail due to certain obvious reasons. 
 
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that VAR is a match official in Association Football who reviews decisions made by the head referee. 
 
The VAR works by using video footage and a headset for communication and was first used for a major competition at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia. 
 
NAN reports that Morocco recently became the first African country to introduce VAR in its competition, while several league competitions have since the 2018/2019 season adopted its usage.

VAR was used in Morocco on Saturday in a match between TAS Casablanca and Difaa El Jadida. 
 
Eche Amos, the Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, said he could not see how VAR usage would succeed in Nigeria. 
 
He said this was because the issue of uninterrupted electricity must first of all be adequately taken care of. 
 
“We still have electricity problem in Nigeria, which makes it difficult for the VAR to work, because the technology needs uninterrupted electricity. 
 
“Again, we don’t even have an efficient sound system and electronic scoreboards in most stadiums for the VAR to be effectively applied. 
 
“Jumping into it will make it easy for us to jump out of it and that is why I honestly believe that, for now, I don’t see VAR working in the Nigerian leagues,” Amos said. 
 
Richard Ajegena, the Media Officer of Nasarawa State Football Association, also expressed reservations about the use of VAR in local leagues in Nigeria. 
 
Ajegena said modalities on the maintenance of the electronic device and the problem of insecurity in the stadium, especially that of violence on match days, must be adequately addressed. 
 
“I don’t think even in the next 10 years VAR will work in the Nigerian local leagues with the way we run football in the country. But when more sponsorships are secured, we can succeed. 
 
“However, for now, it will take a while for it to work here,” he said. 
 
Nehemiah Gwammna, a sports journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in Lafia, said corruption was another issue that would hamper the introduction and use of VAR in Nigeria. 
 
He said the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) must work closely with the League Management Company (LMC) and private investors for a blueprint on how to introduce and sustain it in the Nigerian league competitions. 
 
Yusuf Luka, a football enthusiast, also said there was a need for adequate funding, training of referees and public enlightenment before the introduction of VAR in the country. 
 
“This VAR we are talking about is not as cheap as people think. Aside that, our referees must understand how to work with it and the local fans must be sensitised to the workings of VAR. 
 
“If we don’t take care of all that, I am afraid we will be deceiving ourselves because, as of now, we cannot compare ourselves with Morocco which has started using it. 
 
“Our league is not like theirs and we still have many issues to sort out before introducing it (VAR). If not, it will not succeed,” he said.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has upheld the suspension of the party’s chairman in Edo, Mr Anslem Ojezua,  by 11 of 16 members of the State Working Committee (SWC). 
 
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary,  Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party said that the party’s state working committee had fulfilled the required conditions after it reviewed the process that led to Ojezua’s suspension. 
 
“The meeting of the NWC, which held today, at the Party’s National Secretariat received a notification of the suspension of the Edo APC Chairman, Anslem Ojezua by 11 of 16 members of the Edo Working Committee (SWC). 
 
“We have reviewed the process they followed and conclude that they have fulfilled the required conditions. 
<a name='more' id="more"></a> 
 
“We, therefore, uphold the suspension of the Edo APC Chairman, Anslem Ojezua while we await the outcome of the fact-finding and reconciliation committee,” Issa-Onilu said. 
 
According to him, the NWC’s objective and cause of action is strictly to address the root causes of the disputations and reconcile all parties to make our great party even stronger. 
 
The party’s spokesman said that the political development within the party ranks in Edo Swas deeply disturbed by the recent turn of events. 
 
“We note that this is happening in spite of the various steps the party has taken to find an amicable resolution. 
 
“We recall that party leaders such as the Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF),  Gov.  Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti and Chairman, Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF),  Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi and other eminent party leaders,  had all tried at various times to ensure that the issues do not escalate. 
 
“Sadly, these interventions have not yielded the desirable results. 
“However, the immediate concern of the NWC is how to ensure that unity returns to the ranks of the party in Edo. 
 
“In achieving this, we have decided to constitute a high-power fact-finding and reconciliation committee of party leaders to meet with all disputing parties to ensure that all issues are addressed and resolved,” he said.

The Federal Government on Wednesday insisted that most bad roads in the country are within the purview of states. 
 
It said not every bad road is its responsibility. 
 
Besides, the Federal Government said it was funding the Federal Ministry of Works to deliver on road repairs. 
 
According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, about N650 billion had been released for capital projects in the 2019 budget. 
 
The figure, she said, surpassed the N600 billion President Muhammadu Buhari said should be released as of October.

Mrs Ahmed said additional N250 billion would be released by December to bring total releases for capital projects this year to N900 billion. 
 
She was responding to the claim by Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, that poor funding was the reason road projects were not executed at a faster pace. 
 
Despite the government facing revenue challenges, she said Works, Housing, Power and Transportation received the highest releases. 
 
The minister spoke after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. 
 
She recalled that the government issued several Sukuk Bonds aimed at generating money to fund road projects, adding that not all roads were Federal Government roads. 
 
She noted that the majority of bad roads belonged to the state governments. 
 
Mrs. Ahmed said: “Works is always on the priority list; housing is always funded. Same is transportation and power, though we have revenue challenges. 
 
“It allows me to state that the Minister of Works and Housing has a proposed budget of N247 billion for the year 2020 and the greatest component of this budget is the fixing of Nigerian roads. 
 
“Indeed, we are not able to fund the budget 100 per cent, but whenever we release funds for capital projects, the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Works and Housing is always the priority and also the Ministry of Transport. 
 
“Our fiscal space is tight, resources are limited because revenues are on the performing but at the time we have resources, funds to release, the highest proportion goes to Power, Transport, World and Housing. Also, we have introduced some measures that have seen private sector participants getting involved in road construction. 
 
“One of these measures is the Road Infrastructure Task Credit Scheme that Mr President approved by Executive Order early this year so far we have 17 companies that are carrying out 19 roads across the six geo-political zones. 
 
“I also want to remind you that for the past two years, we have issued Sukuku bonds. In 2017, it was for the construction of 25 roads. In 2018, 23 roads and there is also another one that is being processed. 
 
“We have a lot of roads in the country but not every road you see is a responsibility of the Federal government. The major arterial roads are the ones that are the responsibility of the federal government. 
 
“Majority of the roads in the country are within the purview and responsibility of States as well as local governments. 
 
“Have we done enough? No, not yet, that is why we are trying to do more including raising special funds to make sure that roads and such other infrastructure are being addressed.” 
 
According to her, FEC approved for Nigeria to subscribe additional 3,230 shares worth $50.637million in the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) of the World Bank. 
 
She said Nigeria had a share capital of 1,687 shares at the IBRD. 
 
“This additional subscription to the Bretton Woods institution by Nigeria is not just desirable but necessary. It will strengthen the country’s position and enhance our voice in the global financial architecture,” she said. 
 
FEC approved a contract of N1.7billion for the construction of a jetty in Bonny Island in Rivers State. 
 
Besides, it endorsed a bill for the establishment of a Metallurgical Training Institute in Onotsha, Anambra State. 
 
Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemi Saraki said yesterday: “The Ministry of Transportation presented a memo for the approval of the award of contract of Jetty at Bonny Island of River State. The approval was given. 
 
“Some years ago, we had a jetty at the Bonny Island but it collapsed and now creating huge problem for top boats and pilot age. The pilot land is in Bonny so boats used to come from Port Harcourt to pick up the pilots. 
 
“Today, the Council granted approval in favour of Messrs Due Projects Ltd for N1.7 billion and it will be completed in 15 months.” 
 
Minister of Mines and Steel Development, represented at the briefing by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said FEC also approved a draft of Executive Bill to be sent to the National Assembly for legal framework for the National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, Anambra State. 
 
According to him, another memo from the ministry was for an approval for the ratification of the Statute of African Minerals Development Center.

BBNaija finalist Frodd, who came third at the reality show 2019, is on an all-expense paid vacation in Dubai after several attempts of leaving Nigeria. 
 
Frodd explained before BBnaija 2019, he had been trying to leave the country for greener pastures but was either duped or unlucky.

The International Air Transport Association has asked the Nigerian government and other governments in Africa to address charges being slammed on airlines. 
 
The IATA stated that airlines in the region were burdened by excessive charges, which accounted for 11.4 per cent of their operating costs. 
 
“User charges are excessive. They account for 11.4 per cent of African airlines’ operating costs. That is double the industry average. And there is a plethora of taxes and charges, some unique,” the Chief Executive Officer of the IATA, Alexander de Junaic said. 
 
IATA also called on government and aviation industry stakeholders to focus on priorities that will allow aviation to drive economic and social development on the continent, enrich people’s lives and enable the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

According to IATA, the four priorities are safety, cost-competitiveness, opening the continent to travel and trade as well as gender diversity. 
 
He stated that already, the industry had supported with $55.8bn in economic activity and provided 6.2 million jobs. 
 
“As demand more than doubles over the next two decades, the critical role that aviation plays in Africa’s economic and social development will grow in equal proportion. With the right tax and regulatory framework, the opportunities aviation creates to improve people’s lives are tremendous,” he said. 
 
He stated that three priorities would improve aviation safety in Africa. 
 
According to him, more states need to incorporate the IATA Operational Safety Audit into their safety oversight systems as Mozambique, Rwanda, Togo and Zimbabwe had done so. 
 
He said, “Smaller operators should consider becoming IATA Standard Safety Assessment certified.  ISSA provides a valuable operational benchmark for carriers not eligible for IOSA. 
 
“African states need to implement ICAO standards and recommended practices in their regulations. Currently, only 26 states meet or exceed the threshold of 60 per cent implementation.” 
 
He said the top priority should always be safety, adding that global standards had helped to make aviation the safest form of long-distance transport. 
 
He noted that African airlines had been good examples in the safety performance in the past three years. 
 
“The continent had no fatal jet accidents in 2016, 2017 and 2018. That is largely due to the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders with a focus on global standards, guided by the Abuja Declaration. But there is still more work to do. Taking these three steps will raise the safety bar even higher,” he said. 
 
He also highlighted the need for a cost-competitive operating environment for airlines in Africa. 
 
“African carriers lose $1.54 for every passenger they carry. High costs contribute to these losses Flying is not a luxury—it is an economic lifeline for this continent. That’s why it is critical for governments to understand that every extra cost they add to the industry reduces aviation’s effectiveness as a catalyst for development,” de Juniac said. 
 
He stated that governments should follow ICAO standards and recommended practices for taxes and charges, adding that close hidden costs such as taxes and fees and benchmark them against global best practice. 
 
He called on governments to follow treaty obligations and ensure the efficient repatriation of airline revenues at fair exchange rates, noting that currently funds were blocked in 19 African states. 
 
He also called for liberalisation of intra-Africa access to markets and urgent implementation of three key agreements which had the potential to transform the continent. 
 
These key agreements, he said, were the African Continental Free Trade Area, the African Union Free Movement Protocol and the Single African Air Transport Market. 
 
The IATA CEO stated that for the aviation industry to grow, stakeholders should also do more to improve its gender diversity and for airlines in the region to support the recently launched 25 by 2025 campaign which commit to increasing female participation at senior levels to at least 25 per cent or improve it by 25 per cent by the year 2025.

There are multiple reports that ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner, Abolore Adegbola Akande popularly known as 9ice is set to get married for the third time in December 2019. 
 
According to reports, the singer is getting married to his baby mama, Sunkami Ajala, who he has a daughter Mitchelle with. The couple are expected to get married at an already fixed date in December 2019. 
 
Sunkanmi Ajala and 9ice have been in an off and on relationship before the wedding. The two welcomed their first daughter, Michelle Abolanle Akande, five years ago. Sunkanmi Ajala is an event planner based in Lagos. 
 
Recall that 9ice got married to Adetola Anifalaje, a United States based software engineer in 2018. This was his second marriage. They had three wedding ceremonies which took place between March, July and August of the same year. The marriage with Adetola is blessed with a daughter, Milani- Francoise Imisioluwa Akande.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday said it was ready for the smooth conduct of Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa. 
 
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this at a stakeholders meeting in Lokoja. 
 
Yakubu said that 12 out of the 14-point steps for the smooth conduct of the election had been achieved. 
 
“Only four days to the election, how prepared is INEC? 
 
“The short answer is that we are ready. So far, the commission has successfully implemented 12 out of the 14-point plan for the election as required by law. We have just two more activities outstanding.

“The first one is the last day of campaign which is at midnight on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. The second is the election day itself which is Saturday, Nov. 16. 
 
“The commission has delivered nonsensitive materials for the election to our office here in Lokoja. The sensitive materials for both the governorship and Kogi West Senatorial re-run elections are ready. 
 
“As usual they are being handled by the Central Bank of Nigeria,” he said. 
 
Yakubu added:“The normal process of inspection and distribution of sensitive materials within the state will be done in the presence of party leaders, security agencies and the media. 
 
“We are combining the governorship election with the court-ordered re-run election for the Kogi West Senatorial District in seven Local Government Areas.” 
 
He urged stakeholders to abide by the slogan, “Election No Be War, Vote Not fight,” saying that he was praying the Almighty God to guide INEC’s efforts towards hitch-free conduct of the election. 
 
Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), pledged that corps members would be apolitical during the poll. 
 
Ibrahim said that corps members had been consistently selfless in serving the country. 
 
He appealed to traditional rulers and other stakeholders to help safeguard corps members on election duties in their various communities, saying they were precious to the nation. 
 
The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, represented by High Chief Joseph Osagbemi, said democracy was about quality representation to the people and leadership which could only be actualised through credible election. 
 
He said that the traditional institution in the area had held regular meetings in Kabba towards ensuring peace before, during and after the election. 
 
“We want to ensure that democracy is given the right meaning,” he said.
