Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has provided the latest update on Willian and Dani Ceballos ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Leicester City on Sunday night at Emirates.
Willian and Ceballos both missed Arsenal’s Europa League 2-1 victory against Rapid Vienna on Thursday due to a slight calf issue and ankle bruising respectively.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta also said that some of his Gunners players sustained some knocks and niggles against Rapid Vienna, adding that he would have to assess them before Leicester clash.
Arteta said: “We have to assess a few players today. We have some knocks and niggles from last night which is normal and after a long flight as well. Let’s see how everybody is today.

The Spaniard added: “I think so [it’s too early to comment on Dani and Willian]. They haven’t trained with us yet, so we will have to see how they react in the next couple of days.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security agencies for immediate deployment of their officials to Zamfara State following the gory episode that claimed 22 lives, injuring dozens in the State recently.
This was soon after the state governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle begged the President to bail the State out of the security challenges ravaging it.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital by the Governor’s Special Adviser on media and public enlightenment, Hon. Zailani Bappa.
The statement noted that governor Matawalle was seriously touched by the dastard act that claimed 22 villagers and injured so many people who escaped to the forests with gunshots wounds.

“I came to Abuja to formally inform the President of the escalating situation of terrorism in the state. After the disbandment of SARS the gory episodes have continued unabated,” the governor lamented.
“Therefore I am appealing to Mr president to as a matter of urgency help the people of Zamfara state to overcome this teething problem.
“I also made the President to understand about the position of illegal mining in the State,” the Governor was quoted as saying.
According to him, his administration has constituted a powerful committee on illegal mining activities in the State, pointing out that the committee members would be moving round to fish out those behind the illegal mining activities.
Matawalle explained that most of the illegal miners operating in the State were not even Nigerians but from other countries.

Her Royal Highness, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu of Lagos, has admitted a total failure of the country’s leadership.
She said the leaders in the country have failed the youths, adding that for this reason, the young people may no longer listen to them unless certain things are done.
The monarch said this on Saturday when she appeared on Arise Television, stating, “We have failed as leaders.”
She said, “Right now the children will not listen to any of us unless they see us doing something for them. Unless we do something quickly, it’s going to get worse before getting better.

“I inclusive, I think we have failed in our responsibility to our people. A lot of Nigerian youths are jobless. I was at the palace of the Oba of Lagos yesterday and I saw these children. They are angry. I saw red eyes.
“They didn’t attack any other place but straight to the Oba’s palace. It’s significant. They touched the heart of leadership, a sign that we have failed
“People in govt need to come down to earth and find out what the problem of the people are. We must stop being teachers in government, we need to act as parents to these children.
“Our leaders have been living in their own palace. They have been deceiving each other and that is what has brought us to this point.
“The attack on the palace is a strong message and strike on the heart of the leadership. There is no other message stronger than that.
“The lessons should not be lost on us. The lesson is that our children can deal with us when they want.”

The National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, has claimed that a desperate politician from the Southwest was sponsoring the #EndSARS to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari government.
Bodejo called on President Buhari to deploy soldiers to crush the protesters, pointing out that the protests were meant to bring down the government.
It’s no longer news that Nigerian youths have been protesting for over two weeks now, calling for total overhauling of the police and an end to police brutality.
The Fulani leader said he supported the protest hundred per cent at its beginning because most members of the F-SARS have been very brutal to Fulani people.

He said, however, that after few days of protests, with the government promising to address their demands, yet the the protest continued.
According to Bodejo, this shows that there was more to the protest that many people did not know.
“There is a hidden agenda in the protests,” he insisted.
He noted that after Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu had disbanded SARS, the protesters who were supposed to gone home, instead added other things to their lists.
“From all indications, not just politicians, but a desperate politician in the Southwest is behind this movement, that is why we are no longer keeping quiet, and we have decided to let the nation know what is happening because most people were not aware or have not read meaning into what is happening.
“It is no longer protest; a desperate politician who felt he has lost out in the 2023 scheme is drumming for these our youths.
“It is not hidden; political analysts are saying the same thing. It is not hidden in the political circles,” Bodejo said as quoted by the Sun.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lamented the wanton destruction of private and public assets as hoodlums under the guise of the #EndSARS protests looted and razed important government infrastructure and business premises in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who led some members of his cabinets to the vandalised sites across the state, said he won’t allow further destruction in the state.
He also warned those instigating people on social media to desist from such act while preaching peace and assuring residents that the government was on top of the situation.
“Moving forward from the destruction, we have to continue the process of healing ourselves. We need to stop some of our citizens still using the social media to instigate or incite the people.

“It will not be under my watch that we will lose the city that has the largest economy in the entire black nation.
“Enough is enough. I have moved round and I saw that our people want peace. On this, we are committed to bringing lasting peace back to the state,” the governor was quoted as saying in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile.
The statement was titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu Preaches Peace As He Inspects Govt, Private Assets Destroyed In Wednesday Coordinated Attacks’.
Akosile said the governor visited 27 locations across the state where government assets and private properties were destroyed and physically assessed the level of the vandalism.
Sanwo-Olu described the arson attack in Lagos as “coordinated wanton destruction”, saying it would take the state many decades to recover from the devastation.
“My heart bled after I went out today for a first-hand assessment of the destruction of assets of the Government and private properties.
“The level of destruction observed indicated that the violence was more than just a peaceful protest and agitations for police reforms. The proportion of the devastation is a lot. This is not the Lagos that was handed over to me on May 29, 2019,” the statement further quoted the governor.
At least three banks, over 10 police stations, local government secretariats, over 80 BRT buses, shopping malls, shops, court, palace, houses, amongst others were torched by the rampaging hoodlums.
Others burnt down include the Lagos State Public Works Corporation in Ojodu, Nigeria Port Authority Building at Marina, Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre at CMS, Vehicle Inspection Service headquarters in Ojodu and Toll Plazas at Lekki and Ikoyi Link Bridge.
The governor had since instructed the Lagos Waste Management Authority to clean up the city.
Furthermore, Sanwo-Olu said a Panel of Inquiry would commence investigation into Tuesday shootings on Monday.
The panel, the governor said, would start its sitting at the Lagos Court Arbitration Centre international in Lekki.
He urged members of the public to send their petitions and evidence on the Lekki incident to the panel investigation.
“The governor also visited Reddington Lekki Hospital where some of the injured protesters were admitted after the shootings. All admitted persons had been discharged,” the statement concluded.

Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has disclosed that economic and infrastructure development would reduce crime and give better functionality to the security agencies in Nigeria.
Amaechi stated this while delivering a lecture to participants of the National Defence College Course 29 on Friday in Abuja.
The politician recalled how he was able to tackle unrest and chaos among the people during his time as Governor of Rivers State by addressing deficits in infrastructure development.
Amaechi said: “To create jobs, we had to construct roads and other infrastructure projects.

“This process saw a lot of people being engaged, and insecurity dropped drastically.
“In Rivers state, we built over 350 Model Primary Schools, which wasn’t just to improve the standard of Education and enlightenment but create employment also.

He added, “The Army is not supposed to give internal security, but the Police are overwhelmed by the crime rate. Hence the Army has consistently been rescuing Nigerians.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has urged the Federal Government to lead the way in restoring peace and justice in Nigeria.
ASUU also said that security operatives must be stopped from the senseless killing of armless youth protesters, while infiltrators must be brought under check through active intelligence.
The union said this in a statement posted on its Twitter handle on Friday while condemning the shooting of Nigerian youths by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State.
The statement read in part: “The Federal Government must lead the way in restoring peace and justice in Nigeria. Security operatives must be stopped from the senseless killing of armless youth protesters while infiltrators must be brought under check through active intelligence.

“For obvious reasons of past betrayal, the youth are right to insist on seeing evidence of how well the government has met their five-point demand. It is only by the continuous engagement that this would happen, not by the deployment of trigger-happy military personnel as reportedly done in the case of the Lekki Toll Plaza.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has provided details of the investigation to the Lekki toll gate shooting.

The Presidency, on Saturday disclosed why President Muhammadu Buhari did not mention the Lekki toll gate shooting in his nationwide speech addressing the issue of End SARS.
Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina disclosed that his principal did not mention the shooting because it would be “premature and presumptuous.”
Adesina, while appearing on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, explained that the shooting was being investigated by the military.
He said: “The Defence Headquarters issued a statement to say that it was investigating the matter. Lagos State Governor has also set up a probe panel to investigate what really happened.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>“So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while investigation is ongoing.
“It is after investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter.”
Buhari had received some backlash from Nigerians over his silence on the Lekki shooting recorded carried out by soldiers.

Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday announced a ban on all activities of Igbo secessionist agitator group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,  in Rivers State.

The ban follows the indictment of the group by the police in the series of violence that have rocked the Oyigbo Local Government Area and other parts of the State in the wake of the #EndSARS protests since the beginning of the week.
The Governor had on Wednesday declared 24 hours curfew in Oyigbo and other parts of the state to rein in activities of the group.
However, the Rivers State Police Command said the curfew did not deter the group as over 500 of its members attacked and burnt down two of its stations, 15 cars, including an armoured personnel carrier even after the imposition of the curfew.
Violence by the group continued from Thursday till early hours of Friday with reports that many residents of Oyigbo government were forced to flee the area as its members engaged in a gunfight with security operatives.
Many houses were reportedly set ablaze in the gale of violence, while many people were also injured.
While announcing the ban on the organisation on Friday, Governor Wike said the activities of the banned IPOB are not just dangerous to lives and property, but also constitute clear and present threat to the existential interest and aspirations of Rivers State and all her people.
He added that the proscription order on IPOB in Rivers was a reinforcement of the earlier ban of the activities of the group across the nation by the Federal Government.
The Governor added that with the proscription, no form of procession or agitation by the group or any of its affiliates is allowed to take place in Rivers hence forth.
“Security agencies are hereby directed to stop any form of procession or agitation by IPOB in Rivers State or any part thereof and arrest and prosecute any person or group that identifies with the membership or activities of IPOB in the State; Government will issue an executive order to strengthen and ensure the effective enforcement of these measures” he said.
He disclosed that he will be meeting with all leaders of youth groups and community development committees in the State on Monday 26th October 2020 to take holistic measures to counter and stop all IPOB activities in Rivers State;
The governor also declared one Mr. Stanley Mgbere, who wanted for leading members of IPOB to cause the recent violence and destruction of lives and property in Oyigbo.
He said a ransom of N50m will be given to any person with useful information that would lead to arrest and prosecution of Mgbere.
Wike recalled that since IPOB was classified as a terrorist organisation by the Federal High Court and subsequently proscribed in September 2017, the group has carried out intermittent processions in parts of Rivers State, especially in Oyigbo and some notorious suburbs in Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.
According to him, IPOB aim had been to disturb the peace of the State by unleashing violence and destruction on lives and property at will.
The Rivers State Government, according to the governor, had severally pleaded, warned and even advised IPOB and its members to discontinue its insurrectional actions in Rivers State to no avail.Instead of heeding the warning, he said IPOB unleashed another orgy of violence and destruction inflicted at Oyigbo Local Government Area and some parts of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area on Tuesday 21st October 2020.
He said this evil, wicked and audacious action resulted in the unnecessary loss of scores of lives, including soldiers and police officers, and the destruction of both public and private properties, including police stations, court buildings and business premises.
Wike also claimed that members of the group also visited physical violence on members of some targeted community which, but, for the quick intervention of the State Government and the security agencies, would have resulted in some form of internecine bloodbath in the State.
“Today, IPOB continued with its devilish and destructive activities at Rumukwurushi, Iriebe and Oyigbo in open defiance of the State Government’s curfew on human movements. Security intelligence and surveillance have revealed that IPOB has continued to expand its membership drive, holding meetings regularly, and expanding its logistical base, including the maintenance of illegal detention cells in Emenike and other parts of Diobu, Port Harcourt.”
“As a matter of fact, Oyigbo town has practically become the group’s main operational base in Rivers State, from which they’ve become notorious for launching premeditated violence and terror on the State, businesses and innocent citizens. As a people, we have become very much unsettled by the terrorist acts and endured the continuing irritations, violence, destruction and provocations of IPOB in and against the people of Rivers State.”
The governor noted that as a stranger element with strange political ideology, IPOB has no legal or moral right to invade Rivers State or any part therefore at its behest; to disturb public peace; and subject lives and property to violence or threat of destruction under any guise.
He emphasized that Rivers State’s love, accommodation and hospitality towards all who reside in and do business in the state are being mistaken for weakness by the banned IPOB.
“I wish to appeal to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands despite the intense provocation as government has the capacity to deal with the challenge and ensure the safety of lives and property in the Local Government Area. We will soon carry out on the spot inspection and assessment of the destruction they have suffered and take appropriate measures to mitigate the loss and damage caused to lives and property” he said.
Wike expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the families of all those that have either lost their loved ones or suffered damages to their properties from the destructive acts of IPOB in our State.

Nigeria recorded two deaths from coronavirus, on Friday, according to official figures.
A total of 1,129 deaths have now been recorded thus far from the virus in Africa’s most populous country.

Nigeria has continued to record daily cases below 300 for more than two months with 77 infections reported Friday.
This brings the total number of infections in the country to 61,882.
The update was provided Friday night by the country’s infectious disease outfit, NCDC.
The NCDC data showed that out of the over 61,000 infections so far, 57,190 persons have recovered and have been discharged..
There are still about 3, 500 active cases in the country.
The 77 new cases were reported from 11 states – Lagos (71), Kaduna (20), Rivers (19), FCT (4), Osun (3), Ondo (2), Sokoto (2), Kwara (2), Benue (2), Imo (1), and Ogun (1).
Lagos, Nigeria’s COVID-19 hotspot with over 20,000 infections, came tops in Friday’s tally with 71 new infections.
Nigeria has tested over 600,000 of its 200 million population since the country reported its index case on February 28 in an Italian traveler.

The governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has said that the scrapped FSARS police unit is still required in the state to keep the peace.

Matawalle described scrapping the useful police unit as throwing away the baby along with the bath water.

On July 1, Idowu Oluwaseun managed to rise from the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on her clothing business and switched to selling beverages. She stocked up her shop at Cherub Mall, opposite Alpha Beach Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, with varieties of wine.

The single mother of three was gradually pulling back from the pandemic upset when a looting spree perpetrated by hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS protest plunged her into a fresh economic hardship.
“I am heartbroken,” she intoned. “They stole valuables worth N6m in my shop. They stole everything; expensive wine, chandeliers, freezer, chiller.”
In the coming days, weeks and months, Oluwaseun would struggle to recover from the huge loss she suffered, while battling to cater to her three kids who are in school.
She lamented, “How can I move on? I started the shop on July 1, after the lockdown. I invested all I had in it. I was lying down, thinking over it when your call came in. I can’t comprehend how they carried the freezer and chiller.”
It was learnt that a multitude of hoodlums stormed the mall around 2pm on Wednesday after a 24-hour curfew was imposed by the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to check the widespread violence across the state.
The assailants looted stores freely for hours, carting away goods and valuables worth millions of naira. They also destroyed at least 10 vehicles parked on the premises.
For Olawale Jegunmah and his wife, it was a double jeopardy. The couple lost their separate investment in the mall to the looters, who operated unhindered for many hours. While Jegumah runs a bakery, his wife is a seamstress.
Jegunmah said, “Almost 80 shops are in the mall. They looted everything and set some shops ablaze. I have a bakery and my wife runs a fashion outlet. They stole my mixer, slicer and a table we use for cutting bread at the bakery. They also carted away six machines and clothes in my wife’s shop. The property they stole in my shop was over N2m. That of my wife was about N1.5m.”
“I don’t know how to survive now with my wife and son. We have not even paid his school fees. All our means of livelihood are gone. We don’t know where to start from. I started this business a year ago. We will appreciate whatever support the government can give us.”
The manager of the mall, Samson Oyedemi, said he was in the facility with the security men and plain-cloth policemen when the hoodlums came and started banging the gate.
He said they initially chased them away but after 30 minutes, the thugs regrouped and invaded the mall.
He stated, “They were over 500. We were overpowered and had to run helter-skelter to safety. Before we knew it, they were all in the mall, breaking shops. It was monumental damage. We have 24 shops on each of the three floors; they vandalised all of them, including showrooms and an online store within the premises. They also broke into the management offices. They looted the shop till around 10pm. At a point, we were begging them to leave but they refused and more thugs joined them.”
Worker at an eye and dental clinic in the mall, Dr Ebereh Chijiuba, is currently at his wits’ end on how his family would survive. The raid had brought the health centre to its knees.
He said, “We lost all our equipment worth N30m. My wife just gave birth two weeks ago through a caesarian session. We spent almost all we had. My wife works at an eye clinic inside a Shoprite mall in Jakande. The mall was also burnt. We don’t know the way forward because both of us are now jobless.”
The owner of a mobile technology hub within the premises, Emmanuel Ojemen, told our correspondent he had yet to arrive at the value of his loss.
He added, “Apart from a furniture shop that still has some furniture items, there is nothing left in the entire mall. They looted everything in my shop. The loss is in millions. We have reached out to the owner of the mall and he promised to get back to us. We are waiting for him to tell us the next step.”
The nationwide EndSARS protest which started over two weeks ago took a turn for the worse in Lagos when men of the Nigerian Army shot at unarmed protesters in Lekki Tollgate for failing to comply with the curfew.
Amnesty International said 12 persons were killed in the shooting but Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu claimed two casualties were recorded as of Thursday.
In the wake of the shooting, hoodlums went berserk, burning and looting public properties, police stations, and commercial establishments, including banks and shops.

What a week it has been for our own dear native land! Just at the beginning of the month, as the country turned 60 as an independent entity, President Muhammadu Buhari had charged us to “begin sincere process of national healing, eliminate old and outworn perceptions that are always put to test in the lie they are.”

What began about a fortnight ago as “genuine concerns and agitations” by Nigerian youths against the excesses of the Special Anti-robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police (SARS), has suddenly transmogrified into expressions of hate against the land, leading to murder, mayhem and arson. My sympathy and condolence to family and loved ones of the dead, irrespective of how they came to their unfortunate ends.
How can what began as peaceful protests suddenly turn to incipient anarchy as seen in killings, torching of public buildings and properties, storming of the Bastille and wanton release of hardened criminals, and many others. Hatred. Nigeria is one country passionately hated by some of those who live in it, and it had always been so.
Some people call it ‘the mistake of 1914,’ in which what used to be the Northern and Southern Protectorates were forcefully cobbled together by the colonial masters, leading to the emergence of Nigeria. Since then, it has been one uneasy relationship among the people that make up the Union. Suspicion of domination, ethnic rivalry, fear of being given the shorter end of the stick, gaining unfair advantage, and the like, have characterized the relationship. And the overriding sentiment is hatred, fueled and justified by many factors and tendencies.
If Nigeria dies, whether now or in the future, hatred killed her. How can a people go about, bearing giant-sized grudges against their country, its leadership, against one another, and expect that country to live in peace and prosperity? It won’t happen. “When we don’t know who to hate, we hate ourselves,” observed a writer.
The EndSARS campaign began as an agitation against police brutality, in which there was unanimity of purpose. And suddenly, it became a vehicle of hate. Against leadership, against national cohesion, an opportunity to settle political scores, and equally prepare for power grab in 2023. Hatred came into the mix.
The agitation by youths against injustice and oppression suddenly took on a variegated nature. Separatists came under the umbrella, and began to advance their cause, working for the dismemberment of the country. Those beaten black and blue in 2015 and 2019 elections also crept in, and asked for pound of flesh, while also plotting for a return to power in 2023.
The venom, which peaceful protests eventually became, can only be summed up by one word. Hatred. How can you begin to club people to death, in different parts of the country? How can you set fire to national assets and institutions, storm prisons and release prisoners into society, all in the name of peaceful protests? No, peace had fled through the window, and hatred was fully in control.
There are many factors and agencies of hatred in Nigeria, and until we learn to purge ourselves, the country may never move beyond where it has been pirouetting and gyrating for six decades. Like the macabre dance, it has been one step forward and two steps backwards.
Hatred is evinced from many quarters for Nigeria, and for its government and people at any given time. It comes from churches, mosques, professional activists and agitators, interest groups, some elements in the media, so-called analysts who never see anything good, and so on and so forth.
When things boil over in graphic demonstration of hatred, it is a culmination of negative sentiments and tendencies. They come in persistent negative postings on social media, which generate and stimulate hate. From hateful messages from the pulpit, as if that was the message of love Jesus Christ handed over to his followers. From unduly critical messages during jumat services. From radio and television programs, in which bile is spewed. From talkshows which become a harangue of government, newspaper articles and columns tailored to instigate and generate dissent, and the like.
Eventually, all cumulate in hatred, which finds expression in genuine causes like the EndSARS campaign. When things boil over, they leave sorrow, tears and blood in their wake, as we have seen. And who suffers? The whole country. Who bleeds? Nigeria. And one day, if Nigeria ever dies, despite years of attempting to build and nurture it, hatred would have killed it. A knife in the guts. A bullet to the head. An arrow to the heart of Nigeria, is hatred. Animus against anything that does not directly lead to personal aggrandizement, that does not promote selfish narrow interests.
Many times, President Buhari had said it was the right of protesters to indicate their displeasure, as long as it was done within the limits of decency and the law. Disbandment of SARS, he said was only the first step in what would be comprehensive police reforms.
Talking of reform of the police, I know the mind of the President on that issue. Sometime in the early days of the first term of the administration, I had dropped into the house one night, as I do once in a while. And it was a few days to the exit of the then Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, who was going into retirement.
The President told me how much he had been impressed with Arase, and how he regretted that the man spent just about a year with him. He then told me of the police of his dreams, and how he wished he got someone who would translate the dream into reality. So, when the President said in a speech to the protesters last week that comprehensive police reform was coming, I knew what he had in mind. If only we would be patient and let him implement the five points demand of the protesters, which he had accepted. But alas, the protest took another hue and nature, different from the original concept and focus. Hatred crept in, nurtured by all sorts of tendencies.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear,” said Martin Luther King, Jr. But not for some Nigerians who have decided to hate their own country. They perpetually stoke the embers of malice, discord and discontent. They bear a heavy burden, which they carry around everywhere, being grumpy, caustic and perpetually driven by ill will.
Hatred is a poor prop for anyone to lean on. But to those malicious souls, the more malice they generate for their country, the better they feel. They may carry fancy religious titles, or parade as activists, analysts or newspaper columnists, but what they are is really simple. Hate mongers, and one day, they may ensure that Nigeria dies. Not of old age or other natural causes, but of hatred.

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has suspended the curfew imposed on the state over the #EndSARS crisis.
This was announced in a press statement by Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, on Friday.
The curfew is being lifted 48 hours after it was imposed.
The statement titled, ‘Governor Oyetola suspends 24-hour curfew’, read in part, “The Government of the State of Osun notes the high level of compliance with the 24-hour curfew earlier declared to forestall breakdown of law and order.

“We commend the residents and citizens of Osun for their show of understanding and cooperation in the last 48 hours of the curfew.
“We equally commend our youths for displaying a high sense of maturity in carrying out their protest.
“After reviewing the situation of the last 48 hours and following the inauguration of the State’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, the Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, hereby suspends the 24-hour curfew, effective from today, Friday, October 23, 2020, till further notice.
“The suspension is to allow members of the public to approach the Panel to make their submissions and to go about their lawful businesses.”
The statement warned that “the government will not hesitate to reinstate the curfew should the need arise.”

The Ogun State Government has warned those planning to attack public and private warehouses – storages, commercial premises, public buildings and private businesses against such acts.
A statement by the Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Waheed Odusile, confirmed that the warning came, “against the backdrop of audio messages trending in some circles detailing plans by some criminal elements who had hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protests to attack government properties in different locations in the state, with the intention of looting such.”
While warning of dire consequences, Odusile said, “Our combined team of law enforcement agents have been put on the alert to protect public buildings and similar properties belonging to the government and other facilities in all locations around the state.”
According to the newly appointed Commissioner for Information, anyone planning to attack any of the facilities should, in their interest, shun such move.

He added that though the government is in support of the legitimate demands of the #EndSARS protesters, it will deal decisively with any act or conduct by hoodlums likely to lead to a breach of public peace.

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has condemned widespread violence in the country.
It noted that some Christian leaders made inciting utterances instead of cautioning their followers.
In a statement on Thursday, Nafi’u Baba-Ahmad, the Secretary General, regretted that the End SARS protest was hijacked.
Ahmad said this was despite SARS disbandment and other actions by federal and state governments.

He stressed that violent protests could destabilise the polity and create civil strife.
The council noted that the End SARS demonstrations will not necessarily translate in fundamental changes in the police force, or bring an end to security violations of citizens’ rights.
The statement said what is required is a complete overhaul of the Nigerian security architecture.
“It is unfortunate and disheartening that some individuals, including notable Christian clerics, rather than cautioning their followers and help contain the escalating violence, they instead aggravated it through their unguarded utterances. We strongly believe that those utterances, sometimes from the pulpit, helped in turning what was presented as a patriotic undertaking into a religious and regional conflict as we are witnessing now,” he said.
The council decried attacks on Muslims and their places of worship and businesses across the country.
“While we always preach and counsel our congregation on the importance of living in harmony, the Council wants to state categorically that we will no longer fold our arms to watch others taking monopoly of violence by attacking innocent citizens around the country,” he added.
Ahmad condole with the families of deceased police officers and all other victims who lost their lives.
The body’s scribe charged the government to take decisive steps to ensure cessation of atrocities and prosecution of perpetrators.
“To the international community, we urge for restraint, impartiality and commitment to truth and fairness in taking positions on issues affecting Nigeria. We are deeply concerned about the one-sided positions often taken by Nigerian allies, such as the UK, US, Canada etc, without recourse to verifiable evidence”, he said.
Citing insecurity and killings in states, the council urged the authorities to use all possible means to secured the country.
The statement called on Muslims to pray for peace and told Imams to urge their congregations to refrain from violence and lawlessness.

Rivers Police Command says members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, perpetrated the violence in parts of the State under the guise of #EndSARS.
It was gathered that in spite of the 24hour curfew declared by Governor Nyesom Wike in Oyigbo Local Government area of Rivers State, clashes have continued to claim lives in the area.
Wike Wednesday declared a 24hr curfew in Oyigbo after hoodlums attacked a police station and set it on fire.
The hoodlums also murdered 2 police officers in cold blood.

Few hours after Governor Wike announced a declaration of curfew in Oyigbo the attackers became aggravated and carried on with more destructions.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incidents, saying that three Police Stations in the State came under attack when hoodlums numbering about 500 suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) invaded the Oyigbo Area Command, Oyigbo and Afam Police Stations, setting them ablaze and damaging about fifteen vehicles, including one Armored Personnel Carrier (APC).
In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, the command said, “In the wake of the attack, two Police Officers were killed and some arms and ammunition carted away by the hoodlums.
“Another attack was carried out at the Mile one Police Station where the same suspected IPOB members who operated under the guise of #ENDSARS protests made frantic attempt at burning the Mile One Police Station and the office of Eagle Crack Squad.
“Though the command was able to restore calm, there are still pockets of threats from their remnants at the fringe communities in Oyigbo Local Government Area.”
But the attacks continued Thursday with the destruction of an ICT Market by rival hoodlums at Rumukwurusi belonging to traders, mostly resident in Oyigbo.
Also, two persons were allegedly shot dead around Isaiah-Eleto, while another three are said to have also been killed around Luciano Bar at Umuebulu all in Oyigbo Local Government Area.
Sporadic shootings were heard at different parts of the local government in the wee hours of Friday.
Neither Governor Wike nor the State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Mukan have visited the crisis prone area.

Troops of the Nigerian Army and the policemen have taken over the Oyigbo Local Government Area in Rivers State following fresh mob attacks in the zone.
The State Police Command had said members of the Indigenous People of Biafra were liable for killing two of its operatives and burning of two police station s in the area on Wednesday.
Gunshots were fired in the area from Thursday night till Friday morning as soldiers resist the hoodlums but there were still flashes of violence in Oyigbo.
Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike had placed a 24-hour curfew on the local government but residents said they could not sleep because of the incessant shootings.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has assured youths in the state of 60 per cent representation in his new cabinet as part of his administration’s efforts to redress their  grievances.
Obaseki gave the assurance on Thursday, when he held an interactive meeting with youth groups at the Government House, Benin.
He described the Edo protest as politically motivated, following its hijack by agents allegedly determined to cause political instability in the state. 
Obaseki said: “I am worried about the level of criminality.

“Part of the fight we had in our first term was the issue of maintaining law and order and fighting criminality.
“Lots of these criminals hid under the cover of the godfathers who called them their infantry, lions and tigers.
“You could see them in the last few days, the way they came out pouncing on people’s private properties.
“The crisis in Edo is not the #ENDSARS protests but political because the government supports the #ENDSARS protests.
“Just as we defeated them in the election, we will contain them. With my #ENDSARS people, we are going to arrest them and put them back to the zoo.”
“Without law and order, there can’t be economic growth because no investors will come here to invest.
According to the governor, his administration recognises the role played by youths in his re-election.
He therefore said that his administration had plans to reward the youths with 60 per cent of appointment of youths under the age of 40 in his second tenure.
He said his government had no problem with peaceful protests, adding, “I asked the police to give you protection but the police authorities have a choice to either obey me or not.
“Our position as a government is to support the position of the #ENDSARS protesters because their demand is legitimate,” he said, and assured the youths that he was on their side.
“The Judicial Panel of Inquiry is the first step to go and we have instructed that the number of members be increased to 20 to accommodate other groups.
“The panel has 90 days and I urge you all to give evidence to the panel, which should be documented to enable us to implement its report.
“Our security arrangements in the country must reflect our federal system because I can’t be a governor of a state and not be able to hire and fire my Commissioner of Police.
“But the #ENDSARS has helped us start the process.
“The Public Works Volunteer is a version of our neighborhood watch in the state.
“We have 900 people being trained. 1,100 others will be trained after this set and another 20 persons per ward will be hired to be in charge of public safety.
“As the governor, I will do everything within my power to have strong internal security because we need to protect ourselves,” Obaseki said.
The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of over 30 youth organisations in Edo.
A representative of the protesters, Abraham Oviawe, said their demand emanated from the pain Nigerians had suffered in the hands of security operatives over the years.
He thanked the governor for constituting the panel to investigate the excesses of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad and urged him to ensure that the panel discharged its assignment creditably for Edo people.
Oviawe urged the police to be civil in their dealings with members of the public, while urging the police authorities  to scrutinise the activities of the anti-cultism unit of the force.
“We urge your government to re-constitute the neighborhood watch and ensure the recruitment process is open and transparent in order to assist community policing in Edo,” he said.
Also, a representative of Civil Society Organisations in the state, Curtis Ogbebor, urged the government to arrest and prosecute those who shot and killed some protesters at Kingsquare in Benin.
A representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Steven Imafidon, said that 60 per cent of victims of police brutality were students.

Nigeria's president, Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, berated people he called subversive elements whom he alleged were bent on using #EndSARS protesters to cause chaos and truncate the country’s democracy.

Buhari, who said this in a  national broadcast, begged youths calling for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and police reforms to suspend their protests.
Advising them to resist the temptation of being used by those he described as subversive elements, he said his government would not tolerate undermining of the country’s unity by anybody.
The President’s address came two weeks after youths demanding disbanding of SARS began protests.
But eminent Nigerians and #EndSARS protesters, who reacted to the President’s speech, berated him over his failure to comment on the shooting of protesters by soldiers in Lekki, Lagos. They said his broadcast was devoid of empathy.
Although the Federal Government disbanded SARS on October 12, the protesters insisted that government had not met all their five-point demand, which included release of all persons arrested and justice for victims of police brutality and setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct (within 10 days).
Others are psychological evaluation of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed, and increase in police salary.
The protests, however,  assumed a tragic dimension on Tuesday when soldiers shot protesters in Lekki, Lagos. Scores of protesters were killed in  Lagos and other parts of the country by security agents and hoodlums.
Buhari said the youth protesting against police brutality must stop their protests immediately.
He warned the protesting youths that allowing themselves to be used against democracy amounted to undermining the nation’s security which his regime would not tolerate.
The President said, “I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.
“For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.
“I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.
“And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law-abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect.”
The President also warned “those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well-intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.”
Don’t make hasty pronouncements, Buhari tells international community
The President also advised members of the international community not to make hasty pronouncements on the situation that had turned international attention to Nigeria.
He asked them to first seek to know all the facts on the matter before rushing to take positions.
“To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements,” Buhari said.
‘My quick action on SARS misconstrued as weakness’
The Nigerian leader regretted that the promptness in which his regime responded to the demand of the protesters to disband SARS was misconstrued as a sign of weakness.
He claimed that some people twisted the gesture for their selfish interests, therefore leading to violence.
According to the President, “The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.
“As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.
“On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive police reforms.
“Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.
“The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the palace of a peacemaker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an international airport and, in the process, disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.
“All these executed in the name of the #EnSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.”
Buhari also said some people were spreading falsehood, particularly through the social media that his regime was oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens.
This, he said, was a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into “unfair judgment and disruptive behaviour.”
The President said contrary to what the peddlers of the misinformation wanted people to believe, his regime’s deeds and words had shown how committed the government had been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said his government had put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in the society.
These, according to him, included the plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75bn National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youth and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Survival Fund.
All these, he said, were in addition to other initiatives such as Farmermoni, Tradermoni, Marketmoni, N-Power, N-Tech and N-Agro.
Buhari boasted none of his predecessors in office had done what his government was doing to alleviate poverty.
He added, “No Nigerian government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.”
According to him,  the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalisation of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force.
“In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.”
The President paid tribute to policemen who lost their lives.
He also thanked state governors as well as traditional and religious leaders who had appealed for calm and restraint.
President silent on soldiers who invaded Lekki protest site
Surprisingly however, the President failed in his speech to mention the issue of armed soldiers who at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday and shot protesters.
The action of the soldiers was what led to the subsequent vandalism of public and private properties in Lagos and other states on Wednesday and Thursday.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had claimed he was not aware of the deployment of soldiers in the protest site while instituting an investigation into the matter.
Many observers had indicated that troops could not be deployed in any location without the knowledge of the President who is the Commander-in-Chief
A few hours after his broadcast eminent Nigerians and senior lawyers lashed out at the President on his silence on Lekki tollgate killings and key issues of the #EndSARS protests.
Speech short of expectations – Oyetibo
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Tayo Oyetibo, said Buhari’s speech fell below expectation, particularly as no reference was made to the Lekki tollgate killings.
Oyetibo said, “The speech was short of the expectation of many of us because there was no mention of what happened in Lekki and other parts of the country, specifically. You may not agree with what people are saying but it ought to have been mentioned.
“There was no sympathy or empathy for those who have lost their lives and what needed to be done to assuage the feelings of those people. And more importantly, they had whetted the appetite of Nigerians that far-reaching decisions were going to be taken. We didn’t see any decision taken in the speech.
“My advice to the youth is that they should go out and register for the next election, from 18 and above, they should go and register and begin to prepare for the next election.”
Buhari’s speech contains avoidable gaps – Falana
A human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) also picked holes in the speech delivered by the President in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests in the country.
Falana told revealed  that the speech contained avoidable gaps.
He cited an instance of where Buhari accused the international community of jumping into hasty conclusion over the shooting of unarmed peaceful protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos State on Tuesday.
He said, “The presidential speech contained some avoidable lacunae. For instance, the President accused the international community of jumping into hasty conclusions with respect to the Lekki shootings.
“My worry is that the President would be embarrassed at the end of legal inquiry into the military invasion of the Lekki toll gate as the number of the unarmed protesters that were mowed down and the circumstances of the barbaric attack by the soldiers from a particular military barrack in Victoria Island would be exposed.
“It was good that the President consoled the families of the police personnel who unfortunately lost their lives in the course of duty. Similar presidential condolences ought to have been extended to the families of the unarmed protesters who were brutally murdered in Ogbomoso, Ibadan, Benin, Lagos etc. I want to believe that the President was not informed that unarmed protesters were slain in the premeditated attacks by police and military personnel.
“However, the President reiterated the point that the voice of the protesters had been heard loud and clear and that the Federal Government is committed to addressing the outstanding demands. Specifically, the President announced that the emoluments of police officers would be reviewed upwards. That is a concession of one of the key demands of the protesters.”
Buhari’s speech lacks empathy, emotion – #EndSARS protesters
A member of the #EndSARS movement in Abuja, Kaka George, said the President’s broadcast did not meet the expectations of the campaigners, noting that his speech lacked empathy and emotion.
George, a lawyer, noted that the presidential address failed to assuage the people’s pain and loss, adding that it was rather filled with recriminations and threats of sanctions.
The activist whose Toyota SUV was damaged during an attack on #EndSARS protesters in Abuja stated, “He (Buhari) didn’t speak to the protesters; there was no empathy, no any form of emotion to show that he felt the pain Nigerians have gone through in the past couple of days and hours.”
Another #EndSARS campaigner, Uche Philips, criticized the broadcast which he said did not address the aspirations of Nigerian youths.
He noted that the President failed to use the opportunity to speak to the issues that concerned the activists, stressing that the presidential speech fell below expectations.
Buhari acts like engaging Nigerians is beneath him – Chimamanda
Bestselling author, Chimamanda Adichie, says the President sometimes acts in a manner that seems as if engaging with Nigerians is beneath him.
Adichie stated this in an article published in New York Times titled, ‘Nigeria Is Murdering Its Citizens’ on Thursday, hours before Buhari’s televised speech.
She wrote, “The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has long been ineffectual, with a kind of wilful indifference. Under his leadership, insecurity has worsened; there is the sense that Nigeria could very well burn to the ground while the President remains malevolently aloof. The President himself has often telegraphed a contemptuous self-righteousness, as though engaging fully with Nigerians is beneath him.”
Buhari’ broadcast speechless speech – Fayose
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, in a tweet expressed disappointment with the broadcast of the president.
But Fayose, who, in a tweet, reacted to Buhari’s broadcast, described it as “speechless speech,” adding, “i warned Nigerians”.
On her part, Director of Programmes, Yiaga Africa, Cynthia Mbamalu,  said the President seemed to be forgetting that the #EndSARS protest was not about his initiatives but rather about police brutality in Nigeria and the level of impunity in which security officials operate in Nigeria.
The People’s Democratic Party also dismissed the address by the President.
The party’s position was contained in a statement titled “EndSARS: Buhari’s Address Disconnected, Failed Empathy Test – PDP,” signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, late on Thursday.
He said the PDP described the long-awaited address by the President about the protests rocking the nation, as disappointing and completely disconnected from the realities of the tragic occurrences in the country in the last two weeks.
Nigerian celebrities expressed disappointment in the address of the President.
Popular artiste, Adekunle Gold, in a series of tweets, wondered why the President did not mention the Lekki shootings and killings in Zamfara.
He urged the youth to be united.
“Wait what?!!  My heart cannot take this! My God! I’m dazed!
“We all have one common challenge and it’s our bad leaders not our fellow brothers and sisters,” he wrote.
Also, singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, sighed, saying, “God help Nigeria.”
While David Adeleke, aka Davido, simply remarked, ‘Wahala’, Damini Ogulu, aka Burnaboy, quipped, ‘Huh?’
Singer, Paul Okoye, of the Psquare fame, fell on the floor of his house, as he ‘fainted’ after watching the address.

Immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has condemned the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over the killings of the youths protesting against police brutality and extra-judicial killings.

In a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Fayose who expressed grief over the current situation in the country, condemned the crackdown on the innocent Nigerians.
He said the country is experiencing the current chaotic situation because the citizens through their votes allowed a clueless and incompetent man to ascend the exalted position.
The former governor maintained that President Muhammadu cares about no one, saying he warned Nigerians against voting for him but they didn’t hearken to his voice.
The statement reads, “My heart is heavy. Like every other concerned Nigerians, I’m worried. I’m sad that soldiers were sent to shoot at our youths, who were only expressing their anger against the system.
“I sympathize with families of the deaths and pray that God will heal the injured.
“However, the sad reality we must face now is that the current situation in our nation is a result of allowing a clearly incompetent man to ascend to the highest office in the land. I saw all these coming and I warned Nigerians. You can’t wear a white robe on a pig.
“Life does not matter to a clueless leader whose only fulfillment is that he is called Mr. President. He cares about no one except himself. That’s why up till now, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have not said a word. Sad!”.

Former Aviation Minister and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Femi Fani-Kayode, has taken a swipe at Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari over the use of army against the End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
It was reported that the former United States presidential candidate in a tweet via her Twitter account urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army to stop the killing of protesters.
Also, the United States presidential candidate in the forthcoming presidential election, Joe Biden had condemned the violent crackdown by the military on protesters in Nigeria.
He however, urged the government to handle the situation well, adding that the United States stands with Nigerians who are peacefully seeking for a police reform and an end to corruption in their democracy.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode in a tweet via his Twitter account blasted Clinton and Biden alongside their former boss, Barack Obama for being hypocritical towards the ongoing chaos in the country.
According to him, they foisted a homicidal maniac, a cruel tyrant & a monster on Nigerians by working against ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.
“Amazed that Hillary Clinton & Joe Biden can criticize MBuhari.
“They should shut up and go jump in the lagoon. They & Barack Obama supported Buhari in 2015 & did all they could to stop GE Jonathan from being re-elected.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring and fueling the End SARS protests through unguarded assertions on social media.
The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena, who made the accusation in a statement on Wednesday, said PDP was also playing politics with the protests.
He maintained that the APC would not join issues with PDP on the development which the #EndSARS protests had taken.
According to him, the party would give record of how the opposition leaders were directly and indirectly sponsoring the protests and playing politics with the issue

“It is on record that one of the leaders of #EndSARS protest in Akwa Ibom State, three days ago publicly admitted that the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, gave N4 million for onward sharing to the protesting youth in Uyo.
“Kufre Carter, one of the organisers of the protests, reportedly said he got a call from the governor’s aide on youth matters whom he said told him that the governor gave N4 million to be shared to the protesters.”NAN quoted him as saying.
He stated that the APC Caretaker Committee chairman, Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, had noted the hidden agenda in the End SARS protest.
Nabena appealed to the protesting youth to give dialogue and peace a chance while ignoring insensitive fueling by the opposition parties.

To prevent further destruction of public infrastructure in Lagos State by hoodlums, the Federal Government has deployed more security forces to guard public assets in the state.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known on Thursday morning while speaking in an interview on Arise TV.
Sanwo-Olu revealed that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin; and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, called him on the phone on Wednesday.
He said the two security chiefs asked to deploy more troops to secure public assets and he said, “Why not? Our airports and other public buildings must be secured.”

There have been reports of widespread arson and violence in the past few days as rampaging hoodlums looted, razed and destroyed public assets.
Sanwo-Olu had announced the imposition of the curfew on Tuesday afternoon in the wake of the unrest in the state.
Hoodlums had taken advantage of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality and extrajudicial killings to wreak havoc and cause mayhem in the state.
Banks, local government secretariats, police stations, the Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Shoprite Ajah, Nigerian Ports Authority head office, the governor mother’s house at Akerele, VIO/Federal Road Safety Corps’ offices at Ojodu, magistrates’ courts at Igbosere, TVC station, the Nation Newspapers office, and many others have been burnt down in the last 48 hours.
The situation was further worsened when soldiers, in a bid to disperse the protesters at the Lekki toll gate, opened fire on the youths.

#EndSARS protests against police brutality and extrajudicial killings have rocked the country in the last two weeks, with the military and police killing peaceful protesters.
On Tuesday, eyewitnesses claim about seven lives were lost, with several others injured when soldiers opened fire on protesters in a bid to disperse them from the Lekki toll gate in Lagos — a focal demonstration ground for the #EndSARS campaign.
Our correspondent gathered that the overseas-based players were afraid of returning to Nigeria for Eagles games, for fear of being killed or maimed.

Eagles midfielder John Ogu wrote on Twitter, “The Politicians should ask their children to represent Nigeria in the next @NGSuperEagles @thenff upcoming games. I’m so devastated like right now.”
“We can’t be representing a country that kills our brothers and sisters. This killings and unrest must stop or we stay away,” another player based in Belgium said.
Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho posted a cryptic message on Twitter with a broken heart emoji to express his dismay at the recent killings.
“God is watching. It will end in praise. We will keep speaking up,” he wrote.

The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on all leaders in the country to rally and earnestly begin the process of correcting the wrongs in the society.
Okowa made the call in a condolence message to the youths in the country following the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki, Lagos on Tuesday.
In a statement personally signed by himself on Wednesday, the governor said “It is obvious that we cannot suppress the voice of the Nigerian youth. They have suffered untold pains and expressed their frustrations in the last two weeks.
“As leaders, our duty is to start to right the wrongs. We need to start the process of rebuilding a nation that works for all.

“We need to take steps to recreate hope for our people, the youths inclusive.
“My dear youths, you have spoken loudly. You have changed the narrative, and the reforms you called for cannot be wished away.’’
The governor reiterated his appeal to the youths to give the Government time to reflect on and take action on their demands.
He described the youths as heroes and heroines, urging them not to allow their well-intentioned protests to take a negative turn.
