After an eight month absence, Nigerian ‘Prophet’ T.B. Joshua returned to his Lagos-based church, The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), on Sunday 3rd January 2016 with more prophetic revelations concerning Africa.<br />
<br />
Speaking on the Nigerian political scene, Joshua declared that a minority party would soon rise to significance. “One of the minority parties will be lifted up and reckoned with,” he told congregants. “Let us pray for God’s love and unity in Nigeria.”<br />
<br />
It would be recalled that Joshua allegedly predicted the rise of the current ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2010.<br />
<br />
Joshua further called for prayers for Nigeria’s new Agriculture Minister, Audu Ogbeh. “We have to pray for God to sustain him because much is expected from him,” Joshua declared, alluding to his earlier advice for the government to invest heavily in the agricultural sector.<br />
<br />
The cleric also ‘prophesied’ extensively concerning Southern Africa and the challenges the region would face in 2016, particularly the farming industry.<br />
<br />
“There will be little rain at the wrong time, which is not good for farming,” Joshua warned. “Many farmers will be discouraged,” he continued, calling on the government to build “dams and irrigation mechanism using available water from the sea.”<br />
<br />
He further warned Southern African nations not to yield to any temptation to surrender their industries to foreign companies because of the challenges that would arise.<br />
<br />
Speaking in his usual parabolic tone, Joshua called for prayers for the regional leaders as “the ending of February to April are very peculiar months in the Southern African sub-region.”<br />
<br />
Joshua further gave a global warning concerning the volatile North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. “I am seeing an ‘arrow’ from there and it will affect the world,” he declared, adding that North Korea possessed weaponry that most countries were unaware of.<br />
<br />
“The war we are fighting already in Syria is still there. We cannot afford another one again,” he stated, calling for those involved to embrace peace.<br />
<br />
"There are going to be unusual, uncommon challenges this year 2016 but in challenges, we children of God flourish," he added, encouraging congregants and viewers of his popular television station Emmanuel TV.<br />
<br />
Followers of the Nigerian ‘Prophet’ were delighted to see his return to the pulpit, claiming his unusual prolonged absence was for ‘spiritual fortification'.<br />
<br />
“Can you see that your pastor did not go on holiday,” Joshua jokingly told the crowd after he had moved in the midst of the huge congregation, ministering ‘deliverance’ and ‘prophecy’.<br />
<br />
The service had over 3,000 foreigners in attendance, including those who had travelled from the Eastern European nations of Ukraine and Russia.<br />
<br />
Joshua’s last public appearance at The SCOAN was in April 2015, shortly before his ‘Miracle Crusade’ in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City which allegedly attracted over 150,000 attendees.

France will lift a ban on gay men donating blood, introduced in the 1980s to prevent the spread of AIDS but criticised by rights groups, the health minister said Wednesday. “Giving blood is an act of generosity, of civic responsibility, and the donor’s sexual orientation cannot be a condition,” Marisol Touraine announced in Paris.<br />
<br />
“While respecting patient safety, today we are lifting a taboo,” she said. Touraine said the lifting of the ban, promised by Francois Hollande in his presidential campaign, will happen in stages, starting next year. At first, donation of “whole blood” — the red cells, plasma and platelets — will be open to gay men who have not been sexually active for the preceding 12 months, she specified.<br />
<br />
For donations of only plasma, the liquid component of blood, donors will be considered if they have not had sex with another man for four months, or were in a monogamous relationship. Experts will then analyse whether the change had brought about any additional risk, after which measures may be relaxed further in 2017, the minister said.<br />
<br />
In other countries with similar waiting periods for donors, including Australia, Britain, Japan and Sweden, rights groups criticise the measure as discriminatory, given that no similar condition exists for heterosexual men or women. US regulators in May recommended lifting a lifetime ban on blood donations by gay men, but also with a 12-month waiting window.<br />
<br />
On its website, the US Food and Drug Administration says men who have sex with men are “at increased risk for HIV”. “Men who have had sex with other men represent approximately two percent of the US population, yet are the population most severely affected by HIV,” it states.<br />
<br />
The issue is sensitive in France, where hundreds of people died in the 1980s after HIV-tainted blood was distributed by the national blood transfusion centre. Much of the contaminated blood was exported, leading to the infection and deaths of hundreds more. Several senior civil servants, including the head of the transfusion service, were jailed or fined.<br />
<br />
In 1999, then prime minister Laurent Fabius, now foreign minister, and his social affairs minister were cleared of wrongdoing in the scandal. The health minister was convicted but not given a punishment. Mandatory HIV testing of donated blood began in 1985.<br />
<br />
In April this year, the EU’s top court ruled that governments can ban homosexual blood donors if they can show it is the best way to limit the risk of HIV infection.

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), at the weekend, said the consequences of not putting Nigerian youths on the path of rectitude would be too hard to bear for the country, stressing that he foresees danger ahead.<br />

Consequently, he called on leaders, parents and guardians to rise up to various issues of moral decadence in the country.<br />
<br />
Gowon, who was speaking at the 25th Anniversary of the Scripture Union (NIG), Abuja Area, and the presentation of a Book; ‘Acts Of The Pilgrims’, noted that the future of the country appears gloomy if “we do not rise up” to the issues.<br />
<br />
His words: “May I challenge every participant and invited guest here that today’s celebration calls us into deep reflection of our lost Godly values and virtues, particularly, as christian men and women, and seek to recover them.<br />
<br />
“This occasion must therefore compel us to reflect deeply on the state of the nation, particularly the issues relating to moral decadence, sexual perversion, restiveness, precarious security challenges and corruption.<br />
<br />
“We must rise up to deal with various issues of moral burdens in our educational institutions and labour to arrest the tide through massive prayer campaign and action.<br />
<br />
“If we do not arise to bring our youths into the path of rectitude, then their future will appear gloomy, and, therefore, we cannot build a virile nation of trust, integrity and good governance.”<br />
<br />
While extolling the contributions of the SU to the course of humanity, Gowon said: “I can testify that SU as is popularly called has stood the test of time for several decades, and in particular Nigeria, in the pursuit of rugged evangelism and christian perfection.<br />
<br />
“I am indeed proud to identify with the work of the Scripture Union as it has proved to be a strong evangelistic force on our University campuses, across various institutions and has actively provided the spiritual foundation and needs of our Nigerian Christian youths with significant proofs.<br />
<br />
“Many of you seated here today can testify to the immense impact and influence of the SU upon your lives in your respective campuses and institutions as young christian students.<br />
<br />
“I have no doubt that the purposeful and strategic influence of Scripture Union will continue to impact the church and our nation.”<br />
Speaking on the Book: ‘Acts of the Pilgrims’ to mark the Jubilee Anniversary, Gowon described the book as an appetizer that will make the people to seek for more through God.<br />

According to him, “this will deeply and further inspire us to remain steadfast and resolute in our walk with God on the ancient path with Him.”<br />

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented at the occasion by Pastor Steve Oyatayo from the Aso Villa Chapel said the government associated with the Union in view of its achievements in the country.<br />

In his remarks, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, quoting from the Book of Daniel 11: 32, said: ” the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”<br />
<br />
He admonished Nigerians to always stand by the truth, honesty and uprightness in all their dealings to promote the country.<br />
<br />
Also, the Presidential Adviser on Media, Mr Femi Adeshina, while contributing, said the Scripture Union (SU) over several decades in the country had continued to preserve the originality of the word of God.<br />

He urged other faith-based organisations to emulate the body by truly propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ to have a peaceful nation.<br />

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the SU Abuja Area, Mr Emeka Orji, said that God had been faithful to members since the launching of the SU in the FCT, in spite of daunting challenges.<br />
<br />
According to him, “it has indeed been an awesome journey that could only have been conceived, developed, guided and established by the Lord God Almighty. It is a journey that has the unmistakable imprints of God,”.

A transgender woman, 26 year old Tara Hudson who was born a man has been   sent to an all male prison sparking fears for her safety. Tara has lived as a   female all of her adult life and undergone six years of gender reconstruction   surgery.<br />
<br />
The make-up artist was jailed for 12 weeks after admitting an   assault during an incident in a bar last Christmas.<br />
<br />
But magistrates ruled   Tara should serve her sentence inside a Category-B male prison because her   passport says she is still a man.<br />
<br />
Her mum condemned the move saying even   doctors have confirmed she is now a woman.<br />
<br />
Tara's mum Jackie Brooklyn has   written to the prison governor as she fears her daughter will be targeted by the   male prisoners.</div>

She said: "There's nothing male about her, nobody would know the     difference. She looks like a woman. She's gorgeous.</blockquote>
<blockquote>
"We think it's totally outrageous. I don't think she will cope     well at all. "I just feel the men are going to go after her. It's going to be     humiliating.</blockquote>
<blockquote>
"I just want to get my daughter into a safe, female environment     where she belongs and will continue to fight the decision."</blockquote>

Tara, who was born Aaron, admitted assault after an incident at a bar on   Boxing Day 2014.<br />
<br />
She changed her plea to guilty in September and her mum   was expecting her to be put on an electronic tag and made to undergo an alcohol   awareness course.<br />
<br />
At worst she thought she would be sent to an all-women   prison by the magistrates in Bath, Somerset.<br />
<br />
But instead she was ordered   to serve her time at HMP Bristol - a prison holding around 600 young adult and   adult men.<br />
<br />
Jackie revealed that Tara, who has 34EE breasts, is on a   hormone replacement course and is due to undergo more surgery in the   future.</div>

She added: "She's been through a hard time and this could set her     right back." I don't think the magistrates have taken that into   consideration.</blockquote>
<blockquote>
"I fear that it is a potentially dangerous situation for her to be     in and feel strongly that she would be far safer in a female   environment.</blockquote>

"While I understand it is a complex issue, the treatment of     transgender individuals by the British judicial system is one that clearly     requires greater attention and thought.</blockquote>

"The primary focus should be the safety and wellbeing of those     involved."</blockquote>

The Founder and President of Believers Loveworld Ministry, otherwise known as Christ Embassy, Rev.(Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome, on Friday announced a donation of N1 billion to Benson Idahosa University as part of his support to the institution which he described as one of the legacies of his mentor and role-model, the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa.<br />

Oyakhilome announced the donation at a special Convocation Ceremony held by the institution where an honourary Doctor of Divinity degree was conferred on him.<br />
<br />
According to the televangelist, the financial support was to facilitate the Faculty of Engineering project in the Benin City campus of the institution.<br />
<br />
Oyakhilomen who disclosed that his contribution to the university is borne out of his passion to contribute to the development of lives meaningfully and positively, noted that the Founder of BIU, the late Archbishop Idahosa, had positively influenced his life and ministry as a youth.<br />
<br />
He said the television ministry of the late Archbishop Idahosa, popularly known as Idahosa World Outreach (IWO Television), was the first of its kind in the country which he noted helped to liberate lost souls and imparted Christians in the world to accept Christ globally.<br />
<br />
“Archbishop Benson Idahosa was one of the most remarkable and inspiring personalities of the 20th Century. It is a fact of life that those who did not have the privilege to get to meet him, are blessed to meet him through many of us. The impact of the Archbishop on me as an individual is unquantifiable.<br />
“Many times, people would ask me why I talk about the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa more than anybody. It will surprise you to know that as a young man, I was working with the Archbishop in the mail room in the Church of God Mission in Benin City. I was blessed to have worked with the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa. While working with him, I had the blessing and benefit of seeing the Archbishop pass by my table everyday to his office,” he said.<br />
<br />
Chancellor BIU and wife of the late founder, Archbishop Margaret Idahosa, described the Awardee as a spiritual son of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa and Founder, Church of God Mission International (CGMI).<br />
<br />
She noted that the decision to honour Rev. Dr. Iyakhilome with Doctor of Divinity was to recognise the person of Oyakhilome who has greatly contributed to building and saving lives through his ministry, home and abroad.‎

The Secretary of the Borno Elders Forum, Alhaji Mali Gubio, on Friday urged residents to form mosque guards to address the spate of bombings in mosques across the state.<br />
<br />
Gubio spoke in a reaction to the increasing wave of bombings during congregational prayers in mosques.<br />
<br />
“It is sad that the Boko Haram fighters have continued to unleash terror on Muslim worshippers in the state.<br />
<br />
“Residents must stand up and protect themselves by forming Mosque Guards in all areas to halt this madness,” he said.<br />
<br />
Gubio made reference to Islamic history, where the Holy Prophet Muhammad was said to have instructed the formation of Mosque Guards to prevent Muslims from attacks during the early stage of the religion.<br />
<br />
“In the early stage of Islam, Mosque Guards were used to protect worshippers from aggression from idol worshippers. I think we must follow that by ensuring safety in our mosques,” he said.<br />
<br />
The elders forum’s secretary described the bombing of mosque as cowardice.<br />
<br />
“The Boko Haram sect members are cowards. Instead of facing the military in the bush, they decided to bomb innocent people praying in mosques,” he added.<br />
<br />
Gubio noted that the renewed mosque attacks had shown that the insurgents had nothing to do with Islam.<br />
<br />
“It is now clear that they are anti-Islam, they are only pretending to be Muslims, when their mission is to give the religion a bad name,” he said.<br />

Alhaji Musibau Abiola, the younger brother of late businessman and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale(MKO) Abiola, is dead.<br />
<br />
Musibau Abiola died around 4am on Saturday following months of long illness and would be buried today by noon according Islamic rites.<br />

Already, some family members have started converging at the deceased’s home in Gbagura area of Abeokuta in Abeokuta North Local Government Council of the state while Abiola’s children – Kola, Deji among others are being expected.<br />

Before his death, Musibau often used the occasion of the yearly June 12 memorial to lament the sinful neglect of the Abiola’s family by successive Nigerian governments since the death of their breadwinner – MKO Abiola.<br />

He was particularly pained by the unavoidable sight of the abandoned and uncompleted proposed Presidential House of MKO Abiola at the Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, and governments’ attitude to it.<br />

<b>President Muhammadu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, Saád Abubakar, and a Maiduguri-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh are among those listed as the world’s 50 most influential Muslim leaders.</b><br />

BuhariThe Muslim 500, an annual publication of the World’s 500 most influential Muslims, recognised the three Nigerian leaders in its 7th edition published recently.<br />
<br />
The publication says there are 1.7 billion Muslims in the world today, making up approximately 23% of the world’s population, or one-fifth of mankind.<br />
<br />
It said those recognised have a sense of belonging to Muslim community worldwide, besides being citizens of their respective countries.<br />
<br />
The publication measured influence some Muslims have on other Muslims to include: any person who has the power (be it cultural, ideological, financial, political or otherwise) to make a change that will have a significant impact on the Muslim world.<br />
<br />
The impact could be either positive or negative, depending on one’s point of view, it said.<br />
It added that the influence could be of a religious scholar directly addressing Muslims and influencing their beliefs, ideas and behaviour, or it could be a ruler shaping the socio-economic factors within which people live their lives, or of artists shaping popular culture.<br />
<br />
“The first two examples also point to the fact that the lists, and especially the Top 50, are dominated by religious scholars and heads of state. Their dominant and lasting influence cannot be denied, especially the rulers, who in many cases also appoint religious scholars to their respective positions,” it said.<br />
<br />
While the publication listed the top 500 influential Muslim leaders, the first part recognised the top 50 in which Messrs. Buhari, Abubakar and Saleh appear.<br />
<br />
President Buhari was listed as the Number 20, while the Sultan and Sheikh Saleh are listed as numbers 24 and 38 respectively.<br />
<br />
In a short citation, The Muslim 500 recognised Mr. Buhari’s past military career, his anti-corruption credentials and his promise and subsequent efforts to deal with the insurgent group, Boko Haram.<br />
It also recognised that on economy and infrastructure.<br />
<br />
“President Buhari was the first chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and was the mastermind behind the construction of 20 oil depots throughout Nigeria, a project involving over 3200 kilometres of pipelines,” the magazine said. “Both the Warri and Kaduna refineries were built under his leadership. He also established the blueprints for the country’s petro-chemical and liquefied natural gas programmes”.<br />
<br />
On environment, it said Mr. Buhari is “an active environmentalist who has drafted several plans to preserve wildlife in Nigeria. He has also exerted great efforts on the conservation of nature in Nigeria; such as controlling the logging industry whereby he has ensured that double the number of trees felled are replaced by loggers. He has also worked on restricting the Ecological Fund Office so it can deliver on environmental challenges”.<br />
<br />
As for the Sultan Abubakar, the publication stated that he holds an important administrative influence in Nigerian religious life.<br />
<br />
“Abubakar is the titular ruler of Sokoto in northern Nigeria and is also the head of the Nigerian National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. Leadership of this council means that the Sultan of Sokoto remains the only figure that can legitimately claim to speak on behalf of all Nigerian Muslims.<br />
<br />
“This role has become increasingly influential over the years with a rise in interreligious tensions between Nigeria’s Muslim majority north and Christian-majority south,” it said.<br />
<br />
The Muslim 500 also said the Sultan has started many initiatives to counter and reduce the influence of Boko Haram, including inviting an international joint Muslim/Christian Delegation to visit Nigeria.<br />
<br />
As for Sheikh Saleh, the publication recognised him as a lecturer in the fields of Tafsir Al Qur’an (exegesis) and the Hadith as well as Islamic sciences, jurisprudence and ethics.<br />
<br />
“He has over 100 written works. He has held and still heads several significant positions, some of which are, founder and mentor of the Islamic renaissance Organization, adviser to the Federal Government on its Islamic Affairs since 1992, Assistant Secretary-general for African Affairs in the World Islamic People’s Leadership 1989 and many more”.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has finally tied the knot with his rumoured heartthrob, Sa’adatu Barkindo-Musdafa, the daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo-Musdafa, <i>Premium Times</i> reports<br />

The 18-year old becomes the emir’s fourth wife. She recently completed secondary school and is been enrolled for advanced level studies.<br />
<br />
In addition to his first wife, Sadiya, who is the daughter of the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, Mr. Sanusi has two other wives - Maryam and Rakiya.<br />
<br />
The secret wedding was contracted in a low-keyed ceremony in the town of Yola on Friday.<br />
<br />
Palace sources in Yola stated that the wedding fatiha held inside the palace of the Lamido minutes after Jumma’at prayer.<br />
<br />
Insiders say that the influential emir only sent out invitation to some dignitaries across the country, as Kano government officials sneaked into Yola for the wedding fatiha to avoid journalists.<br />
<br />
The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was said to have acted as the guardian for the groom, while his Adamawa counterpart, Jibrilla Bindow, played the role of the bride’s guardian, who gave her hands out in marriage to the monarch.<br />
<br />
Mr. Sanusi’s rumoured marriage to the princess was debunked in the past.<br />
<br />
“His decision to take a new wife is in line with Islamic injunction.<br />
<br />
Islam allows having a maximum of four wives for those who can treat all of them equally and provide for a large family,’’ said a top Kano state government official who travelled to Yola for the wedding.<br />
<br />
A social commentator, Dan’Almajiri Ibrahim, argued that in ancient times, links between empires were tightened by marriages among royals and nobles across boundaries.<br />
<br />
“So, the engagement of the Adamawa princess to Emir Sanusi II may also be a move to deepen royal bond between Adamawa and Kano.<br />
<br />
“You see, historically, both emirates have similar origins in the 19th Century Uthman Bn Fodio’s jihad,’’ he concluded.<br />
<br />
Emir Sanusi could not be reached for comments as he is currently away in Saudi Arabia, where he is acting as leader of Nigeria’s delegation to this year’s hajj.<br />
<br />
A highly placed palace source however confirmed the development to our source, saying Sa’adatu would not move in with the emir immediately.<br />
