The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu, has deployed NSCDC personnel nationwide to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.<br />
<br />
Apart from the general duty personnel, the CG has also ordered the deployment of sniffer dogs, specialised units such as the Special Forces, Counter-Terrorism, ambulances, and the Surveillance Teams which are expected to man strategic areas.<br />
<br />
Gana made this known while felicitating with the Christian faithful over the birth of Christ.<br />
<br />
The CG in a statement in Abuja on Friday by the Corps spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh. urged Christians to live exemplary lives.<br />

It said, “For the purpose of effective and efficient deployment, the Corps’ Chief Executive has recalled all the senior officers on leave and pass to report for duty.<br />
<br />
“He also directed the Zonal Commanders and state Commandants to ensure that there is no hitches during the festive period and beyond as he advised that there should be a watertight security arrangements in and around their jurisdictions most especially around churches, recreation centres, shopping centres, among others.”<br />
<br />
Muhammadu further disclosed that ambulances would be stationed along the highways, airports and other designated areas for quick and timely response to emergency situations.<br />
<br />
He stated that mobile surveillance vehicles would also be on duty to monitor the movement of those with sinister motives.<br />
<br />
The CG urged the personnel to work in synergy with other sister agencies “as the Corps will not tolerate any form of sabotage and crisis over issues that could be avoided.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Akeem Busari, has announced the ban on firecrackers in the state.<br />
<br />
In a statement in Lokoja on Friday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, William Aya, quoted Busari as saying that the ban on the use of firecrackers was due to the threat it posed to security of lives and property.<br />
<br />
He admonished parents and guardians to restrain their children and wards from the use of the devices throughout the festive season.<br />
<br />
“Anybody caught using the knockout will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Nigeria Customs Service on Friday warned their respective officers about the outbreak of the deadly anthrax disease in neighbouring Niger Republic.<br />
<br />
Alerting its veterinary officers, the FMARD described anthrax as a deadly zoonotic disease with a high rate of mortality in humans and livestock.<br />
<br />
The Chief Veterinary Officer of the Federation, Oniya Alabi, said it had become important to reinforce surveillance systems across all entry points in border communities considering the mass movement of animals and products across the Niger Republic and Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He appealed for adequate measures to prevent the incursion of the disease into Nigeria.<br />
<a name='more' id="more"></a><br />
<br />
This came as the Nigeria Customs Service alerted its zonal, regional and other officers across the country about the outbreak of the disease in the Niger Republic.<br />
<br />
The Comptroller, Enforcement, NCS, Victor Dimka, said the alert was necessary to ensure that the disease does not spread into Nigeria.<br />
<br />
The alert notice from the NCS headquarters, dated December 12, 2019, was issued to all zonal coordinators, customs area controllers, comptrollers North-West, North-East, Marine Command, zonal commanders, headquarters strike force, among others.<br />
<br />
In the alert to its officers, the NCS said, “The headquarters received a report which reveals that the Nigerien Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock had notified the World Organisation for Animal Health of an outbreak of Charcoal Anthrax disease, Bacterium Bacillus Anthracis variant, in sheep and cattle in the country.”<br />
<br />
The service further explained that the transmission of the disease to humans occurs directly or indirectly from infected animals or due to occupational exposure to contaminated animal products.<br />
<br />
It noted that given the supply of cattle and sheep from Niger to Nigeria, the comptroller-general of the service had directed that there be an urgent need to place additional precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease into Nigeria through the country’s land borders.

Kissing according to a publication by ksat.com and e-life, is one of the most universal signs of affection which exists in nearly every culture. The act of kissing can range from a quick peck to a long, intimate smooch.<br />

Sadly, no one is immune from the disease-spreading dangers of kissing leading to these nine diseases below, many of them with unknown cure yet!<br />
<br />
MONONUCLEOSIS:<br />
This disease, usually caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), spreads through saliva and is often referred to as “mono” or “the kissing disease.” Symptoms are very similar to those of the flu and include a fever, sore throat, fatigue, muscle weakness and swollen lymph glands.<br />
<br />
The infection and related symptoms usually last anywhere from one to two months. Young people between the ages of 15 and 30 and those who regularly come into contact with a lot of people are the most at risk. While no treatment for mononucleosis exists, resting, staying hydrated and taking over-the-counter pain medications often help.<br />

<br />
CYTOMEGALOVIRUS:<br />
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus in the herpes family. This disease spreads through saliva, as well as through blood, urine, semen and breast milk. Like all herpes viruses, CMV can remain dormant in the body for long periods of time, especially if you’re healthy.<br />
<br />
Though this virus can infect almost anyone, symptoms usually appear in those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, muscle aches and, in more serious cases, pneumonia, encephalitis, seizures and visual impairment. While there’s no cure for CMV, treatment for the virus generally isn’t needed in healthy children and adults.<br />
<br />
GUM DISEASE:<br />
Bacteria, mucus and other particles constantly live in our mouths and can build up to form plaque. Brushing and flossing helps get rid of plaque, though if not cleaned thoroughly, plaque can build up under the gum line and cause gum disease.<br />
<br />
Though gum disease (also known as periodontitis and gingivitis) does not spread through kissing, the bad bacteria that cause it can. Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly is your best defense.<br />
<br />
HERPES:<br />
Oral herpes is most commonly referred to as “cold sores” or “fever blisters.” It’s transmitted through direct contact between an infected area and broken skin or a mucous membrane. More than 50 percent of the U.S. adult population has oral herpes, but symptoms aren’t always visible.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, once you contract the virus, it stays with you forever. Additionally, oral herpes, caused by the herpes simplex type 1 strain, can cause genital herpes. Experts estimate that over 20 percent of new genital herpes cases are caused by herpes simplex type 1 transmitted through oral sex.<br />
<br />
Outbreaks of oral herpes, however, are usually few and far between. During an outbreak, symptoms usually last between 8-10 days on average and the cold sores heal on their own.<br />
<br />
MENINGITIS:<br />
Many types of viruses can cause viral meningitis, which is serious but less severe than bacterial meningitis. This disease can be spread from one person to another via respiratory secretions.<br />
<br />
Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting. Though there are no medications for viral meningitis, people with healthy immune systems usually get better on their own.<br />
<br />
POLIO:<br />
Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects young children. The virus spreads from oral contact or through contaminated food and water. Once in the intestine, it can invade the nervous system and cause paralysis.<br />
<br />
Symptoms include fever, limb pain, fatigue, headache and stiffness in the neck. While there is no cure for polio, it has been largely eradicated in the U.S. and is a routine immunization given at childhood.<br />
<br />
MUMPS:<br />
Mumps is a viral infection that affects the salivary glands, causing them to swell. It usually spreads via airborne droplets from the nose or throat of an infected person. Easily preventable by vaccine, this disease is no longer as common as it once was, though outbreaks in unvaccinated groups still sporadically occur.<br />
<br />
Symptoms typically include fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue and loss of appetite. Recovering from mumps takes about two weeks, and treatment usually focuses on relieving the symptoms.<br />
<br />
RUBELLA:<br />
Also known as the German measles, rubella is a contagious disease caused by a virus transmitted through an infected person’s sneeze or cough.<br />
<br />
Symptoms only show up in half of people who get rubella and are usually mild. They include a fever and rash and clear up in two to three days. The rubella vaccine can prevent this disease.<br />
<br />
INFLUENZA:<br />
Influenza is spread from person to person, usually via droplets made when people with the flu cough, sneeze or talk. People can infect others with the flu virus one day before they have symptoms and up seven days after becoming sick.<br />
<br />
Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and fatigue. Most people recover on their own in less than two weeks. The flu is a highly seasonal disease that can often be prevented by getting an annual flu vaccine.

Following the signing into law by the President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, the National Youth Service Corps members across the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory will soon receive the new minimum wage.<br />
<br />
The Director General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim revealed this in an interview with newsmen  shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch “C” Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed in Nasarawa State. The ceremony held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC permanent orientation camp in Keffi.<br />

He said, “The new minimum wage is captured in the 2020 budget and thank God President Muhammadu Buhari signed it into law yesterday and as soon as the implementation commences, corps members across the 36 states of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory, would start benefit from it.”<br />

He said the Federal Government was also committed to the security and welfare of the corps members, saying the scheme had also entered into partnership with security agencies not to post any of them to places with security challenges.<br />
<br />
He warned that any corps members that embarked on unapproved journey would be sanctioned.<br />
<br />
Earlier, the Nasarawa State Governor, Mr Abdullahi Sule, warned corps members posted to the state to shun any form of social vices such as prostitution, drug abuse, and theft, among others, that would dent their images.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole says he becomes embarrassed when accused of trying to play the godfather in Edo State politics.<br />
<br />
Oshiomhole, who stated this in a television dialogue on Friday, said he would have been able to influence the appointment of several people if he was a godfather, but that he was only able to convince Governor Godwin Obaseki to accept a founding member of his campaign organisation in 2006 as commissioner.<br />
<br />
In his words: “My own embarrassment is when they say, Oshiomhole wants to be like a godfather. If I wanted to be, then I will be nominating Commissioners. I only persuaded him (Obaseki) to accept one Commissioner from me; only one and I gave my reasons- because he was a founding member of my campaign organisation in 2006, Mika. Other than Mika, I did not nominate any Commissioner, I did not nominate any Special Adviser, Special Assistance because for me these are governance issues. So where is the godfather role coming from?”<br />
<br />
The APC national chair, who revealed his numerous efforts to restore peace in Edo State APC, recalled how he reconciled Obaseki with an APC chieftain, Charles Idahosa, with whom he had issues. According to Oshiomhole, “There was a time the governor told me that he would not have anything to do with Charles Idahosa because he lost his booth during his own governorship election and so has no electoral value. I invited both of them to my house and he did not know the other party was coming.<br />

“When the governor entered the room, Idahosa sat and said he was not going to have a handshake with him and used a language for me that was derogatory. I said no, Charles you cannot talk like that. This is the governor and you must respect him. And I said, governor please whatever Charles has done that you are not happy about, we have won, put them behind you. I said in this business, if you don’t work with people because of their electoral value, sometimes you work with them because of their nuisance value. So you will not gain by saying you won’t work with this one or that one.<br />
<br />
“If you ask Rev. Egharevba, I got to know that he was not participating in APC activities because of the way the governor was treating them. I drove to his house and I said ‘Rev, I met you in this party, so why are you leaving the party now.’ They were in ACN then before I came to form an alliance with them. He said ‘you introduced this man to us and look at the way he is treating everybody now.’ I said okay, with time he will change.<br />
<br />
“I now asked him, who are you living the house for? Those in government are the tenants in power, the landlords are the members in the party and the leaders are the owners of the party. “It is the party that produced the governor, so if you are not happy with the governor; and are running away because of the governor, you will be leaving your own house for a tenant. This tenant’s maximum tenancy is eight years, but your party membership can be for life.”

The President Muhammadu Buhari has asked All Progressives Congress state governors to work harder in the next four years to deliver “good governance” to the people.<br />
<br />
Buhari made the call while congratulating all the governors on the platform of the party, who defended their post-election petitions up to the Supreme Court and won.<br />

He noted that the victories came after what he described as “your patient legal battles to defend your mandates.”<br />
<br />
A State House statement by his media aide, Mr Garba Shehu, quoted the President as saying, “I am pleased and proud that you have successfully concluded your legal battles, and now is the time to concentrate fully on fulfilling your campaign promises after the distractions caused by the litigations.”<br />
<br />
He added, “One of the great things about democracy is that it gives us avenues for redress through the courts…I am pleased that you used this opportunity to defend your mandates.”<br />
<br />
However, the President asked the governors to put the judicial battles and the outcomes behind them by settling down fully to work for the people.<br />
<br />
“With the legal battle now over, it is my hope that you won’t rest on your oars. You should work ever harder to deliver good governance in the next remaining four years of your tenure.<br />
<br />
“I wish you God’s guidance, more wisdom and good health in the performance of your exalted responsibilities”, Buhari added.<br />
<br />
As for those who challenged them in the courts, the President advised the governors not to make them their enemies.<br />
<br />
He urged them “to see their challengers as enemies because they were exercising their democratic rights by going to the courts to seek redress.”<br />
<br />
Buhari added that the governors should be aware of challenges still awaiting them ahead.<br />
<br />
The apex court had on Wednesday, affirmed the victory of eight governors in its latest decisions.<br />
<br />
Five of the governors are of the APC.<br />
<br />
They include Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai; Katsina, Bello Masari; Ogun, Dapo Abiodun; Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule<br />
<br />
Three others are of the Peoples Democratic Party. They are, Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; Akwa Ibom, Emmanuel Udom; and Ebonyi, David Umahi.

The Publisher of <i>Sahara Reporters</i>, Omoyele Sowore, may spend the upcoming Christmas period in the detention of the Department of State Services.<br />

This is despite the announcement by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on December 13, that he had taken over the prosecution of Sowore from the DSS.<br />

The hope in the camp of Sowore, who is also the convener of #RevolutionNow protests, that he would be released from custody promptly with the AGF’s takeover of the case was dashed after the minister announced days later that he could not ask the DSS to release him from custody.<br />
<br />
Sowore, who was re-arrested on December 6, within 24 hours of being released from detention that lasted over four months, has been detained by the DSS for two weeks without fresh charge instituted against him.<br />
<br />
His lead counsel Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), described his client’s re-arrest at the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 6, and continued detention as illegal.<br />
<br />
He said there was no warrant of arrest issued for the activist’s re-arrest or any order issued by a court to justify his continued detention.<br />
<br />
Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, were first arrested in August and were later in September charged with treasonable felony among other offences, for calling for the ‘RevolutionNow’ protests, which the Federal Government interpreted to be a call for an overthrow of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).<br />
<br />
But ruling on the application which was moved by one of Sowore’s lawyers, Mr. Marshal Abubakar on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo said he needed to hear from the two defendants before taking a decision on the request for the “unconditional release” of Sowore.<br />
<br />
He then adjourned the case till December 23 as he directed the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court to serve hearing notices on the two defendants.<br />
<br />
The December 23 proceedings which would be presided over by a vacation judge would likely address only preliminary issue.<br />
<br />
Falana had said in a statement on Tuesday that having taken over the prosecution of Sowore and his co-defendant, the AGF was duty-bound to ask the DSS to release Sowore from the “illegal” custody of the DSS.<br />
<br />
Falana said Malami could not wash his hands off the “illegal detention” of the Sahara Reporters publisher like the biblical Pontius Pilate.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Coalition of United Political Parties, on Friday, opposed the continued detention of Sowore and other suspects who have been granted bail by the court.<br />
<br />
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan and the CUPP spokesman, Mr. Imo Ugochinyere spoke in separate interviews with one of our correspondents in Abuja.<br />
<br />
Ologbondiyan said, “We are also worried that critics and those who do not share the same viewpoint with the same people in government are being incarcerated. We are concerned about our member in Kano State, Dan Dayita, who has not been released and has been denied accessed to his family.<br />
<br />
Ugochinyere said, “The continued detention of Sowore is the highest affront to our constitution. It is a kind of military overthrow of the institution of democracy. It is obstruction of justice.”

Two students at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Abia, Alexandra and Eboh Chinedu detained by the Bosnian authorities have been released and are on their way to Nigeria.<br />

The duo had been held in an immigration centre since November 16, 2019.<br />

An official of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Gabriel Odu confirmed in a statement on Friday that the two students had been released and were airborne on their way home.<br />
<br />
The two table tennis players were among five Nigerians who travelled to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia on November 12 to participate in the World University Championships in Pula.<br />
<br />
While two returned home after the tournament, one applied for asylum while Alexandra and Chinedu were deported to Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Croatian police which claimed that they were in the country illegally, despite having arrived in Croatia with valid visas.<br />
<br />
The Federal Government had reached out to the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a bid to secure the release of the students.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Friday that French World Cup-winning midfielder Paul Pogba will not leave the club in the January transfer window.<br />

The 26-year-old — persistently linked with Real Madrid — has only played two matches for United since the end of August due to an ankle injury and speculation has been growing that he would not play for the club again.<br />
<br />
Pogba, whose return was delayed by a mystery illness despite him being seen dancing at his brother Florentin’s wedding last weekend, admitted in the summer he was looking for a new challenge, but that will not be in January according to Solskjaer.<br />
<br />
“Paul is not getting sold in January, no,” he told reporters at a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match at Watford.<br />

“I understand the interest. Paul is a fantastic player and a charismatic personality and we’re happy that he is here.”<br />
<br />
Pogba has missed 26 of a possible 28 matches for club and country this autumn and United have missed his midfield dynamism.<br />

Solskajer has always maintained Pogba — who has 18 months remaining on his contract — would make it back before the end of the year and he has now returned to first-team training.<br />
<br />
But for the Norwegian, the most important thing is to reincorporate a fully fit and firing Pogba into his youthful team.<br />
<br />
“When he comes back, we want him to play well, play with a smile on his face and do what he did a year ago when I came in,” said Solskjaer.<br />
<br />
“His form was fantastic and it has been fantastic. We know we have one of the best players in the world when he’s fit and playing well.<br />
<br />
“Of course he needs time to get fit, but he will make a difference for us.<br />
<br />
“I still hope he can play by the end of the year, but let’s see how he feels. We are not going to push him. We need him to be 100% fit. I can’t risk any setbacks.”<br />
<br />
Solskjaer also denied suggestions that Norway striker Erling Braut Haaland was on his way to United for talks over a possible January move to Old Trafford.<br />
<br />
There were reports in his homeland that the Red Bull Salzburg player had boarded a flight from the Norwegian city of Stavanger to Manchester on Friday morning.<br />
<br />
Haaland is one of the most sought after players in Europe after a sensational six months in Austria.<br />
<br />
The Norwegian, son of former Leeds and Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland, himself a former international team-mate of Solskjaer, has scored 28 goals in 22 matches, with five hat-tricks, including eight in six in the Champions League.<br />
<br />
He met with Solskjaer in Salzburg last week, but the United manager was adamant Haaland’s travel plans did not involve a return meeting in Manchester.<br />
<br />
“I don’t think he’s en route here, to be fair,” he said.<br />
<br />
“Not through me anyway!<br />
<br />
“He is not coming to Manchester. I know the boy and I know his friends and he’s on a Christmas holiday.<br />
<br />
“You can’t fly anywhere from Stavanger without going via somewhere else.”

Two persons were reportedly killed and many injured as rival members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities clashed on Alhaji Qudus Giwa Street, near the Oando filling station, Ikorodu, Lagos State.<br />
<br />
Eyewitnesses reportedly said policemen evacuated one of the corpses after the clash, which occurred last Thursday around 7pm.<br />
<br />
The eyewitnesses said the residents did not know what caused the fight as it was so sudden that many of them, who were returning from work and markets, were injured.<br />
<br />
A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Emmanuel, said the clash was between members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.<br />

He added that a week earlier, two persons were killed at different locations in Ikorodu during a supremacy battle by the cultists.<br />
<br />
He noted that the cult clashes in Ikorodu had become so frequent that residents of the area were no longer safe.<br />
<br />
Another eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Ayo, said, “I don’t know what led to their fight. Cult clashes in Ikorodu seem to be endless. The police themselves are worried about the frequent cult-related clashes and killings in Ikorodu.<br />
<br />
“As the police succeed in quelling a particular clash, three or four others will surface within 24 hours. Nobody can actually tell what they have been fighting for. I think this is beyond the supremacy stuff.”<br />
<br />
A trader, who simply identified herself as Otolorin, said the senseless killings and destruction of property had resulted in the backwardness of the area.<br />
<br />
She stated that apart from the clashes, the hoodlums also steal goods worth millions of naira during the crises.<br />
<br />
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, said he would confirm the clash from the divisional police officer in charge of the area and get back to our correspondent, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this story.

A hit-and-run motorist has crushed two persons to death at the Ijagun junction on the Sagamu-Ore Expressway in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.<br />
<br />
The Route Commander, Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.<br />
<br />
Okpe stated that the accident happened around 4.30pm.<br />
<br />
She said the fatal crash involved two male adults, who were on a motorcycle.<br />

The statement read in part, “The persons involved in the crash were two male adults, who unfortunately died.<br />
<br />
“They were riding a wine Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with number plate AAB 052 VQ, when an unidentified vehicle hit them, but the driver ran away and the motorcyclist lost control and crashed due to the impact.<br />
<br />
“The two corpses were deposited in the state mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.”<br />
<br />
Okpe also stated that an earlier crash occurred around 5.10pm on Wednesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Mowe bus stop in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.<br />
<br />
The FRSC officer explained that the accident involved a Mark tanker with number plate KMC 107 YS and a motorcycle with number plate GBE 054 VU.<br />
<br />
She said three male adults were involved in the accident but no one died or got injured.<br />
<br />
Okpe stated, “The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking, which led to the loss of control.<br />
<br />
“The crash affected the tanker conveying petroleum product with some of its content spilling on the road.<br />
<br />
“There was no fire outbreak due to prompt emergency response, but the gridlock that ensued lasted several hours before the transfer of the petroleum product to another tanker and the crashed tanker was removed from the road to restore traffic.”<br />
<br />
Okpe advised motorists to drive cautiously.<br />
<br />
“The FRSC, Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God for creating a thoroughfare yesterday (Wednesday) through the Redemption Camp from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Mowe (between Lotto and the RCCG youth gate) to ease the traffic discomfort for motorists trapped in the gridlock that ensued after a tanker conveying PMS crashed around the Mowe bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,” she added.

Boko Haram militants killed 14 Chadian civilians and wounded five others in an overnight attack on a fishermen's’ camp in the northeastern part of Lake Chad, a local official said.<br />
<br />
The latest attack struck a camp of fishermen near the village of Kaiga on Lake Chad, which has been plagued by the militants since 2009.<br />
<br />
“The assailants arrived in the night and attacked the fishermen,” official Dimoya Souapebe said. Thirteen people are missing in addition to the 14 killed, he said.<br />
<br />
In March, Boko Haram militants killed at least 23 Chadian soldiers in an overnight raid, one of the deadliest such attacks inside Chad by the insurgents.<br />

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, late Thursday, received a letter from a coalition of 35 civil society groups urging him to remove the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II if he failed to submit himself to the laws of the state.<br />

The letter was released late Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar,<br />
The letter signed by the Chairman of the Coalition, Ibrahim Ali, stated, “If the Emir of Kano fails to submit to the authority of the government of Kano State, we call on the Governor of Kano State on the strongest term, to act strictly in accordance with the provision of Kano Emirate Council Law 2019 in order to heed the state forward.”<br />

Titled, “Kano State Emirate Council Law, 2019: Demand Letter,” it read in part that, “The coalition of 35 Civil Society Groups under the above-mentioned group (UMBRELLA OF KANO CONCERNED CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS) is curiously studying the unfolding events in the running of Kano State affairs especially in recent time, as it relates to the lingering face-off between the Government of Kano State on one hand and the Emir of Kano on the other hand.<br />
<br />
“Reminding specifically that, matters that arose from the aftermath of Kano State High Court decision nullifying the Kano State Emirate Council Law, that was enacted by the State House of Assembly, which eventually paved way for the enactment of another Law, creating additional 4 First Class Emirates, which also empowers the Governor to take disciplinary measures against any erring emir.<br />
<br />
“Soon afterwards, the same Law which repeals all the existing Emirate Councils Laws, and consolidates it in the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, was again been challenged first by the purportedly 5 kingmakers from one of the 5 Emirates established by the said law.<br />

According to <b><a href="https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/">SchengenVisaInfo</a></b> have shown that in 2018, Nigerians spent €5,315,220‬ on visa applications to Europe.<br />
<br />
The report added that €2,644,560‬ of the stated amount was spent by applicants who were refused visa.<br />

The statistics also indicated that in 2018, Schengen embassies and consulates in Nigeria processed 88,587 visa applications, 44,076 of which were rejected.<br />

“With this, Nigeria had the highest rejection rate of 49.8 per cent among all third-countries in need of visas,” the report, signed by the Deputy Editor at SchengenVisaInfo, Granit Sadiku, stated.<br />
<br />
According to the report, France was the top favourite country for visa submission, as 33,308 of the applications submitted in Nigeria were for Schengen visas to France, followed by Italy with 13,295 and Germany with 10,847 applications.<br />
<br />
The report however stated that, “as from February 2020, Nigerian citizens will need to pay a fee of €80, instead of €60 as they did so far, when applying for a Schengen Visa from Nigeria.”<br />
<br />
“Children too, will have to pay €40 instead of €35, as it is currently,” it added.<br />
<br />
The report added, “Nigerians will be subject to several changes in terms of visa application procedures, rules and benefits, starting from Monday, February 2, 2020.<br />
<br />
“Due to the implementation of the Updated Schengen Visa Code, adopted by the EU Council in June 2019, all representative missions of the Schengen countries located abroad are obliged to apply the new rules, including the ones in Nigeria.”<br />

Quoting an official from the Information Monitoring and Media Division of Lithuania, SchengenVisaInfo says,“Since Regulation (EU) 2019/1155 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 amending Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 establishing a Community Code on Visas (Visa Code) is binding in its entirety, and is directly applicable in all EU Member States in accordance with the Treaties, all Schengen countries, including Lithuania, will apply it from 2 February 2020.”<br />
<br />
The new rules also permit Nigerians to submit an application up to six months in advance of their trip, instead of three as it is now, and foresees a harmonised approach to the issuing of multiple entry visas with lengthier validity to regular travelers with a positive visa history.<br />
Member States that are not represented in Nigeria in terms of visa admission are now obliged to cooperate with external service providers, in order to facilitate visa application for travelers.<br />
<br />
The external service providers are allowed to charge a service fee, which cannot be higher than the visa fee. This means Nigerians applying at an external visa service provider may have to pay up to €160 per visa application, if the external service providers set the maximum service fee permitted, which is €80.<br />
<br />
In addition, the updated Visa Code introduces a mechanism that assesses whether the visa fees should change every three years.<br />
<br />
Another mechanism that will use visa processing as leverage will be introduced, in a bid to improve cooperation with third countries on readmission.<br />
<br />
According to Gent Ukëhajdaraj from <a href="https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/">SchengenVisaInfo</a>, due to this mechanism the fees may increase even to €160 if the EU authorities see it necessary.<br />
<br />
“A visa fee of €120 or €160 will apply to non-cooperative third-countries, in cases when the EU Commission considers that action is needed in order to improve the level of cooperation of the third country concerned and the Union’s overall relations with that third country,” Ukëhajdaraj explains, adding that this provision shall not apply to children under 12 years old.<br />
<br />
The mechanism may also shorten visa validity, and introduce prolonged visa processing periods.

<div style="text-align: justify;">The show featured some of Nigeria’s A-list entertainers including Naira Marley, Peruzzi, CDQ, Mayorkun, Jaywon, Broda Shaggi, and Styplus.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">One of the downsides of the show was that it started late. Fans of the  Zanku crooner had filled up the Balmoral  Convention  Centre expecting the rapper to show up. Sadly, the entertainer didn’t mount the stage till about 1.24 am on Thursday morning.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Another blind-spot of the much publicized concert was the poor sound system. When Zlatan initially mounted the stage, the loudness of his lead microphone affected his performance. The audience could barely hear him as the sound system disrupted his performance.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Amazingly, the show ended at about 4.45 am on Thursday morning. Though the concert was greeted with a lot of blind-spots, however Zlatan still managed to enliven his fans.</div>

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo has faulted Federal Government’s plan to grant visas to foreigners on arrival into Nigeria. It said the move which “amounts to throwing the nation’s borders open to “foreigners with questionable characters” showed that the Federal Government was “still bent on implementing Rural Grazing Area (RUGA).”<br />
<br />
The group, in a communique in Enugu, also claimed that the Federal Government wanted to use the “visa on arrival” policy to give advantage to a particular part of the country during future elections.<br />
<br />
It called on the Federal Government to shelve the policy because it could aggravate the security challenges facing the country.<br />
<br />
Ohanaeze’s position on the visa on arrival policy came hours after the Senate on Tuesday rejected its immediate implementation and invited Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola to explain its “technical, logistics, legal and constitutional issues.”<br />

Some of the major issues the group listed at the end of its meeting in Enugu as not being in the interest of the nation  are the siting of the nation’s military institutions only in the Northern part of the country as well as the  warehousing of military armaments and strategic units also in the North.<br />
<br />
Others are the call by the Chief Justice of Nigeria for amendment to the 1999 Constitution to include Sharia law; Federal Government’s push for a $30 billion loan;   heavy presence of security men at checkpoints in the Southern part of the country and the recent attack on Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra  (IPOB) in Spain.<br />
<br />
Ohanaeze Ndigbo alleged in the communiqué by the Special Adviser to the President-General of the organisation,Chief Emeka Attamah, that the  siting of military institutions in the North  was a deliberate move to have people from a particular ethnic group and religion  as heads of security forces and agencies.<br />
<br />
The group said the action was contrary to the provisions of extant laws which stipulated that the establishment of such institutions must be balanced.<br />
<br />
On  the $30 billion loan now being debated by the National Assembly, Ohanaeze Ndigbo  warned  that generations unborn would pay dearly for the “reckless borrowing” of current leaders if not jettisoned.<br />
<br />
Ohanaeze asked that the many checkpoints be dismantled because security agencies used them to extort and humiliate a section of the country.<br />
<br />
The communiqué  reads: ” Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has, in the interest of the security of Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to rescind its decision to throw open the borders of the country to immigrants without visas.<br />
<br />
“The National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, in Enugu,   decried the  unprecedented national decision that would occasion massive entry of foreigners, some with questionable characters into the country.<br />
<br />
“NEC noted that such unchecked and unregulated influx into the country will further aggravate the security challenges facing the country.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo states that the action tends to give credence to the suspicion that the Federal Government is still bent on implementing the RUGA programme and also to give a particular ethnic group undue advantage in subsequent elections in the country.<br />
<br />
“NEC wonders why the Federal Government would take such an inimical decision without any corresponding offer to Nigerians into the benefitting countries.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo feels that the security and economic fallouts from the said free entry of foreigners would further aggravate the security threat to the country beyond what is being experienced at the moment and called for a rethink.<br />
<br />
“NEC also condemned the selective and parochial siting of military universities as well as other universities and higher institutions entirely in the North to the total neglect of the Southern part of the country.<br />
<br />
“Its holds that the warped decision is synonymous with the blatant and insensitive decision of the present administration to have people from a particular ethnic group and religion as the heads of all security forces and agencies in the country notwithstanding their ages and the fact that they should have been retired to give way to younger officers.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo observed that this action of the Federal Government negates the constitutional provisions of the country that provides equitable representation and siting of amenities throughout the country in accordance with the federal character of the country.<br />
<br />
“NEC recalls that there has been a deliberate Federal Government policy to concentrate all military armaments and strategic units in the North with the South completely barren of such military presence except checkpoints that have metamorphosed into toll gates for the exploitation of Ndigbo and their Southern neighbours.<br />
<br />
“The group urges the military authorities to dismantle all the checkpoints along the roads in Igbo land, especially during this period of Yuletide with the attendant mass movement of Ndigbo.<br />
<br />
“It also condemns the recent $30 billion loan being taken by the Federal Government which will certainly add to the woes of Nigerians, especially in a situation where no sincere and transparent efforts have been made to arrest the scourge of corruption to guarantee its effective utilization in the interest of the masses.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo also condemns the recent call by the Chief Justice of  Nigeria for an amendment to  the constitution to include Sharia law at the apex court. It believes that Nigeria, being a federation,  is a secular state and cannot have any religion imposed on the  people.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, however, feels that if there is need for any such amendment, it should be extended to other religions, including Christianity and traditionalists, to ensure equity.<br />
<br />
“ The group also condemns in its entirely,  the attempted attack on a prominent Igbo son, Chief Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, the Minister of Transport, who was allegedly harassed by members of IPOB in Spain recently.<br />
<br />
“Ohanaeze thinks that the belligerent approach by IPOB towards the struggle for the actualization of a sovereign state of Biafra is giving it a bad image and coloration.”

The White House has hit back at lawmakers after President Donald Trump was impeached, slamming the “illegitimate articles of impeachment” and voicing confidence the president would be acquitted in the Senate.<br />

“Democrats have chosen to proceed on this partisan basis in spite of the fact that the President did absolutely nothing wrong,” spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement, calling the votes in the House of Representatives an “unconstitutional travesty”.<br />
<br />
Grisham said that there were no fact witnesses in the hearing and alleged bias by the Democrats.<br />
<br />
“The President is confident the Senate will restore regular order, fairness, and due process, all of which were ignored in the House proceedings.<br />

”He is prepared for the next steps and confident that he will be fully exonerated,” the statement said, referring to the upcoming trial in the upper chamber.

By a 230 to 197 vote in the Democratic-majority House, the 45th US president becomes just the third occupant of the White House in American history to be impeached.<br />

Democrats said they had "no choice" but to formally charge the Republican president, whose impeachment along stark party lines places an indelible stain on his record while driving a spike ever deeper into the US political divide.<br />

"What is at risk here is the very idea of America," said Adam Schiff, the lawmaker who headed the impeachment inquiry, ahead of the vote.<br />

Neither of the two previous presidents impeached since 1789, Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998, was convicted in the Senate, and both held onto their jobs.<br />

But despite the high likelihood of Trump being cleared by Senate Republicans, Democrats said the evidence against him was overwhelming and forced them to act.<br />

The day of dramatic and often angry oratory saw both sides delving deep into Constitutional law, citing the intentions of the country's hallowed founders such as Benjamin Franklin or Alexander Hamilton.<br />

Republicans repeatedly drove the line that the Democrats rushed the investigation; Trump was treated more unfairly than witches put on trial in the 17th century Americas -- or even than Jesus Christ, they claimed.<br />

"Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than the Democrats afforded this president and this process," said Georgia Republican Barry Loudermilk.<br />

They accused Democrats of being driven by a party fringe of socialist extremists and "Trump-haters," and warned that impeaching Trump would backlash against the party in national elections next November.<br />

"This is not about the Ukraine, it's about power," said Republican Matt Gaetz.<br />
<br />
"Voters will never forget that Democrats have been triggered into impeaching the president, because they don't like him, and they don't like us."<br />
<br />
Democrats countered that Republicans were not addressing the charges and evidence, instead issuing blanket denials and counter-accusations.<br />
<br />
"We do not hear, because we cannot hear, because they cannot articulate, a real defense of the president's actions," said Jerry Nadler, whose Judiciary Committee drafted the charges against Trump.<br />

Justice Okon Abang, who gave the order, on Wednesday, adjourned hearing on Abdulrasheed’s bail variation application till Jan. 13, 2020 while Faisal’s trial continuation was adjourned till Jan. 20, 2020.<br />

Earlier on Wednesday, Justice Abang had said that though it would not be convenient for the court to take trial, bail variation arguments would be taken.<br />
<br />
EFCC’s counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, however, said he was ready for trial continuation and that the next witness was in court.<br />
<br />
On his part, Abdulrasheed’s lawyer, Mohammed Monguno, reminded the court of the pending application filed on Dec. 6 for bail variation.<br />
<br />
Abubakar, therefore, urged the court to adjourn hearing on the bail variation application because the defence had just served on him its further affidavit the same day.<br />
<br />
“We apply that the hearing be adjourned to enable us react to their further affidavit,” he said.<br />
<br />
Monguno, who described the motion as “simple application,” said the call for the adjournment was to delay proceeding.<br />
<br />
“We were the ones who filed further affidavit in response to their counter affidavit.<br />
<br />
“We urge Your Lordship not to grant their prayer because it is an attempt to delay this matter,” he said.<br />
<br />
Deborah Apete, Counsel to Maina’s company, Common Input Investment Limited, adopted the submission of Monguno, saying “the motion is ripe for hearing.”<br />
<br />
Abubakar, in his argument, said that Maina’s application was brought relevant to provision of ACJA and 1999 constitution.<br />
<br />
He, however, said that there was no provision in ACJA or the constitution that precludes ones from filing further counter-affidavit in reaction to further affidavit filed by the applicant.<br />
<br />
“What the first defendant filed was a further and better affidavit.<br />
<br />
“Section 36 of 1999 Constitution affords us the right to file further counter-affidavit,” he said.<br />
<br />
Abubakar said Maina’s application was filed on Dec. 17 but they deliberately served him Dec. 18 in order to deny EFCC the right to fair hearing by way of responding to the further and better affidavit.<br />

“We urge Your Lordship to discountenance the learned senior counsel’s plea,” he added.<br />
<br />
Ruling, Justice Abang acknowledged that he had already signified intention to take the application.<br />
<br />
He, however, said that there was no provision of ACJA stopping the prosecution from filing further counter-affidavit.<br />
<br />
“What is fair is fair in both civil and criminal proceeding.<br />
<br />
“I think the law allows the prosecution to file a further counter-affidavit,” citing Denis Amadi and Ozor Mbachi 2016 case in which the Court of Appeal overruled his decision.<br />
<br />
The judge then adjourned taking the bail variation application till Jan. 13, 2020, while he adjourned the trial continuation till Jan. 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2020.<br />
<br />
Also, Justice Abang adjourned the trial continuation of Faisal till Jan. 20 and 21, 2020.<br />
<br />
The judge said it would not “be convenient for the court to take further trial today.”<br />
<br />
He said the date would also be to cross-examined the second prosecution witness.<br />
<br />
NAN recalls that Justice Abang had, on Nov. 25, admitted Abdulrasheed Maina to a bail in the sum of N1 billion.<br />
The judge, who gave the ruling, also ordered that Maina must produce two sureties who must be serving senators.<br />
<br />
The two lawmakers, according to the judge, must not be standing any criminal trial in any court in the country.<br />
<br />
He also ruled that the two sureties, who must be prepared for a N500 million bond each, must always be in court with the defendant at each adjourned date.<br />
<br />
Abang also admitted Faisal Maina to a bail in the sum of N60 million on Nov. 26.<br />
<br />
The judge, who gave the ruling, also said the defendant should produce a surety, who must be a member of the House of Representatives in the like sum.<br />
<br />
However, both of them had been unable to meet the bail conditions.<br />
<br />
In the last adjourned date Justice Abang granted Faisal’s plea to be transferred to Kuje Correctional Centre from Police Tactical Squad, Asokoro.<br />

A policeman and an unidentified person were killed on Wednesday as suspected arsonists burnt down a worship house, Sotitobire Miracle Centre, in Oshinle, Akure, the Ondo State capital.<br />
<br />
There had been tension in the area over the reported disappearance of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole, at the worship house on November 10.<br />
<br />
Police spokesman Femi Joseph confirmed the killing of a policeman and an unidentified person.<br />
<br />

The killings occurred as youths set ablaze the worship house and a vehicle following reports that the body of the missing boy was exhumed from the worship house.<br />
<br />
The billboard of the worship house at another branch in Oba Ile, Akure was pulled down.<br />

Kolawole, according to reports, was last seen in company of his parents at a programme held at the worship house on November 10 at about 11:30am.<br />
<br />
The founder of the worship house, Alfa Babatunde, was arrested by the Department of State Services on December 8 following a petition by the parents of the boy.<br />
<br />
Joseph had in a statement yesterday dismissed reports that the body of the missing boy was exhumed inside the worship house.<br />
<br />
“It is most unfortunate that this misleading information, spearheaded by a popular TV station, has ignited spontaneous reactions from the people, leading to wanton destruction of belongings and injuries to many.<br />
<br />
“The worship house was set ablaze by youths. Some of our officers despatched to the scene to contain the situation were pelted with stones, with many of them sustaining injuries.<br />
<br />
“Their patrol vehicle was damaged,” he said.<br />
<br />
Joseph urged the public not to be hoodwinked by reports that the command had abandoned the investigation of the incident, saying the case file would be sent to the DPP for legal advice.

The Herbs Sellers Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to ban the practice of hawking ‘Agbo’ (cooked herbs) on the streets to safe people’s lives.<br />

Mrs Modinat Onike, Financial Secretary of ‘Elewe Omo Herbs Sellers Association of Nigeria, made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of a media roundtable on Wednesday in Lagos. NAN reports that the forum, which focused dangers associated with the use of herbal medicines, was organised by Nigerian Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA).<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more' id="more"></a>The association identified unregistered herbs hawkers on the streets as the major challenge facing traditional medical practice in the country. According to her, unregistered herbs hawkers are fond of administering wrong dosage and usage to innocent buyers who patronise them. “We the registered and known Elewe -Omo herb sellers are more trained than the herbs hawkers; they are not supposed to hawk cooked herbs to sell, it is a wrong practice according to the practice.<br />
<br />
“We don’t cook the ‘agbo’ (herbs), we rather give the raw herbs and roots to our clients with instructions on usage and preparation. “We call on the Federal Government to step into this matter as soon as possible, and stop the practice of hawking cooked herbs to safe people’s lives, they have no knowledge of what they are selling,” Onike said. She also called on the general public to desist from patronising those hawking herbs on the streets and engage the proper herbs sellers for all their herbal medicines for safety.<br />

Earlier during the roundtable, Dr Sam Etatuvie, Director General of NNMDA, called for more awareness and education on proper use of herbal medicines to reduce the dangers of drug abuse, especially in youths. The NNMDA boss said that the forum was organised to create awareness and inform the public about the dangers associated with the use of herbal medicine. He disclosed that about four billion people out of the estimated global population of 6.3 billion patronised the use of plants to meet their primary health care needs. “We believe that the media can create awareness to educate and inform the public about the dangers associated with the manner of use of herbal medicine.<br />
<br />
“This will go a long way to draw public attention to drug herbal interaction and reduce the rate of youths involvement in irrational use of herbal medicine. “As an agency under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, NNMDA’s mandate includes research, development, promotion, documentation and education on the practice, product and technologies of natural medicine in Nigeria, with a view to facilitating its integration into healthcare delivery system. “This increase in the demand and availability of services of natural medicine has occasioned the developmental policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the health sector,” he said.<br />
<br />
He said that the agency had conducted several trainings of Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) in the six geopolitical zones of the country. “We have started entrepreneurial programses for TMPs on the sourcing, preservation and sales of raw materials and finished products of natural medicines.<br />
<br />
“We have also conducted series of trainings for TMPs on the need to improve the methodology and production handling in line with the WHO standard in Good Handling Manufacturing Practices in terms of preservation, collection and movement of raw material from farm to production,” he said. Etatuvie called for intervention to combat irrational use of herbal medicines and promotion of more rational motivation and adherence to strict good manufacturing practice and clinical guidelines at practitioners’ end and awareness among the general public. The Presiding Judge of Upper Area Court in Zuba, Abuja, Mr Gambo Garba, on Wednesday ordered that a convict, Yakubu Nasiru of Dakwa, Abuja, be given 12 lashes for stealing.<br />

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Garba also warned the convict to desist from committing crimes and find legitimate means of earning a living.<br />

The prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, had told the court that on December 14, a complainant, Aminu Lawal, also of Dakwa, Abuja, reported to the police that the convict burgled his shop.<br />

Ogada said the convict stole eggs, butter, three loaves of bread, Nono satchet milk and N1,850 from the shop in Dakwa.<br />
<br />
He said the convict confessed to the offence during police investigation, adding that some dangerous weapons were found on him.<br />
<br />
The convict told the court that he was hungry and had to burgle the shop and stole the items, adding that he stayed back in the shop to prepare the eggs.

The service explained that the ex-insurgents participated in the NCS de-radicalisation programme as part of their rehabilitation.<br />

Disclosing this to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said about 2, 745 condemned inmates were awaiting execution in various correctional facilities across the country.<br />

The CG said,”As part of our rehabilitation process, 22 former members of Boko Haram who have been deradicalised by the Nigerian Correctional Service have sat for the Senior School Certificate Examination.”<br />

The CG, who was represented by the NSC spokesman, Francis Enobore, advised governors to sign their execution warrant.<br />
<br />
The NCS boss stated that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was meant to hasten the trial of suspects and enhance the decongestion of correctional facilities.<br />
<br />
“Governors are not willing to sign death sentences of condemned inmates, neither are they ready to commute their death sentence to life imprisonment,” Ahmed lamented.<br />
<br />
He noted that about 24 states had domesticated the ACJA, adding that the Act would help in decongesting correctional facilities “as some of its provisions empower correctional centres to reject inmates so that facilities are not overcrowded.”<br />
<br />
The CG further pointed out that the NCS had developed the Corrections Information Management System to capture inmates’ biometric, access the length of remand and pre-trial detention proceedings in the correction system.<br />
<br />
He said the CIMS project had already taken off in some facilities across the country.<br />
<br />
“In order to improve access to justice for pre-trial detainees, a total of 382 operational vehicles have been procured and distributed between 2016 and 2018, for inmates to be taken to court for hearing as and when due,” Ahmed explained.

The house of representatives has summoned Bolaji Owasanoye, chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), over the agency’s allegation that some lawmakers embezzle funds for constituency projects.<br />
<br />
The lower legislative chamber summoned Owasanoye following a motion introduced at Tuesday’s plenary session by John Dyegh from Benue state.<br />
<br />
The ICPC had in a report revealed how Nigerian lawmakers allegedly connive with government agencies to embezzle billions of naira meant for constituency projects.<br />
<br />
The report, which tracked 424 projects from 2015–2018 zonal intervention projects between June and August, 2019, covered 12 states and the federal capital territory.<br />
<br />

<br />
According to the ICPC, findings from the first phase of the tracking exercise contained in the report corroborate the “perception of average Nigerians that ZIPs have become a conduit for corruption”.<br />
<br />
But speaking on the allegation, apparently outraged lawmakers said the claim could cause a sour relationship between them and their constituents.<br />
<br />
While introducing the motion, Dyegh said despite their efforts, the allegation could also make legislators lose credibility in the eyes of the public.<br />
<br />
He wondered why the ICPC chairman would allege what was “unverifiable” and asked members to invite the agency’s chairman to come clear himself before the house.<br />
<br />
Idris Wase, deputy speaker, agreed that Owasanoye should be invited, and emphasised the “sanctity of the hallowed chambers”.<br />
<br />
The motion was subsequently adopted and referred to the relevant committees of the house for further investigation.<br />
