Paris Saint-Germain manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has confirmed Lionel Messi will not make his debut in their Ligue 1 game against Strasbourg on Saturday.
Messi has had only two training sessions since joining PSG as a free agent on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old will be presented along with the other summer signings to the fans at the Parc des Princes ahead of the fixture, but will not play.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration is determined to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.
Buhari gave the assurance at the graduation of Course 29 participants of the National Defence College on Friday in Abuja.
Represented by the Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, the president said his government had embarked on a comprehensive multisectoral and cross-thematic approach, by strengthening existing structures and initiating new security outfits.
He said: “Although the nation is still grappling with the challenges of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, farmers and herder clashes and militancy, the responses by my government and security agencies in tackling these threats have been strong, determined and robust in order to enhance the security of lives and property of Nigerians.

“We consolidated the peace in the Niger Delta and recovered vast territories overtaken by terrorists in the North East.
“We are making continuous efforts at consolidating the progress made in improving the enabling security environment for peace and development.
“In spite of all of these challenges, our faith in the nation is unshaken.
“Our resolve and will to take the nation to greater heights remains strong.
“My government’s collective effort is to leverage technological innovations to deliver the dividends of democracy for national development.
“For the graduands of Course 29, you are graduating at a time when the values acquired in the College are most needed.”

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has admitted N’Golo Kante is an injury doubt for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Kante was taken off midway through the second half of the Super Cup victory over Villarreal on Wednesday.
The France midfielder is now unlikely to feature at Stamford Bridge.
“There is an issue with N’Golo Kante from the (Super Cup) final we need to sort.

“The decisions are not made yet, who starts and who we push over the line,” Tuchel told the media on Friday.
Tuchel also said Hakim Ziyech, who scored Chelsea’s only goal on Wednesday, had suffered a serious shoulder injury.

“Hakim is out for sure. It will be treated conservatively, we don’t need surgery which is good news,” he added.

A federal high court in Abuja on Friday fixed August 24, 2021, for hearing in an application filed by the Department of the State Service (DSS) seeking remand of four aides of the Yoruba secessionist leader, Sunday Igboho.
The four aides are part of the 12 clamped into detention since July 2 by DSS and granted bail by the court since Wednesday, August 4.
However, DSS in an application filed after the bail was granted, urged Justice Obiora Egwuatu to cancel the bail granted to Amudat Babatunde, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Oyetunji, and Bamidele Sunday.
DSS prayed the court to set aside their August 4 bail to enable it to remand them in its custody “pending their arraignment during court vacation”.

The new application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/647/2021 was filed on August 9 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Although the court had on August 4 admitted them to bail with conditions yet to be perfected, the DSS in the fresh application is seeking to halt the bail execution.
In the application filed by its lawyer, Mr Idowu Awo, the security agency is claiming that it has not completed its investigation into the level of involvement of the four detainees in the stockpiling of arms and ammunition allegedly found in Igboho’s house.
DSS is subsequently praying Justice Obiora Egwuatu to reverse himself in the bail granted four out of the 12 detainees and permit it to remand the four detainees for further interrogation.
A hearing notice sighted by newsmen at the federal high court on Friday showed that Justice Egwuatu has fixed August 24 for DSS to argue the application.
Recall that Justice Egwuatu had on August 4 admitted the 12 applicants to various bail conditions while ruling in their applications.
The judge hinged their bail on the fact that there was no criminal charge against the 12 applicants since their arrest and detention for over a month contrary to the provisions of the law.
The four detainees got bail in the sum of N10 million each with two sureties in like sum, while the remaining eight were granted bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties each.
Those admitted to N5 million bail are; Abdulateef Onaolapo, Tajudeen Erinoye, Diekola Jubril, Ayobami Donald, Uthman Adelabu, Oluwafemi Kunle, Raji Kazeem and Bamidele Sunday.
One of the sureties, the court held must be an employee of the federal government on grade level 12 and above.
The sureties must be residents in Abuja, have properties and must swear to an affidavit of means.
The judge also ordered that the title deeds of the sureties must be jointly verified by the Court registrar and the DSS in addition to evidence of three years of tax payment.
The sureties are also to submit all travel documents to the court.
Justice Egwuatu in addition held that the applicants should remain in the custody of the DSS pending the perfection of their bail.
However, since the grant of the bail, the detainees have not been able to meet some of the stringent aspects of the conditions.
Among the conditions said to be hard nuts for them to crack is the production of federal government employees above grade level 12 and others with properties in Abuja with verified title documents and three years tax reports.
At the time of this report, it was confirmed that all the 12 detainees are still in the custody of the DSS.
Counsel to the detainees, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi confirmed receipt of the August 24 hearing date for the DSS application.

The Nigerian Army has advised media houses to disregard the old official portrait of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, and make use of the new one.
The new portrait reflects the new rank of Lieutenant General which the COAS was decorated with by President Muhammadu Buhari
In a statement on Friday, the Army lamented that the old portrait which has Yahaya with the rank of Major General is still being used by media houses.
The statement was titled, ‘Wrong Use Of The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Official Portrait,’ and signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.

It read, “Following the appointment and subsequent decoration of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, an official portrait was produced and disseminated to the media houses via various social media platforms and forums.
“However, it has been observed with dismay that despite this, some media houses, defence correspondents and online media practitioners have persistently used the official portrait of the COAS when he was still a Major General in various command appointments.
“In light of this, you are please requested to disregard all pictures of the COAS from his former Commands and use the approved official portrait attached below. All to please note and comply accordingly. Thank you for your usual cooperation.”

The Kogi State Government has urged residents in flood prone areas to relocate to higher ground, adding that indiscriminate dumping of refuse must be stopped to prevent flooding in the state.
Recall that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) in May warned that 27 states together with 121 local government areas will experience high-risk flooding during this year’s rainy season.
The states include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, and Lagos.
Other highly probable states of the impending floods are Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, and Zamfara.

Speaking to newsmen when he visited Sarki-Noma, a suburb in Lokoja, the Kogi State Commissioner for Environmental Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye, urged residents in flood-prone areas to relocate, stressing that there is a high level of destruction caused by indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainages.
 
He noted that in as much as the people would not desist from dumping refuse in waterways, the possibility of mitigating the effect of flooding will be reduced stressing that they are in the community to sensitize the people and create awareness for them to get themselves prepared for the upcoming flood.
According to him, going by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) prediction, Kogi will be experiencing flooding.
He however restated Governor Yahaya Bello’s commitment to tackling environmental issues in the state.
Earlier, the leader of the Sarki Noma community showed Omofaiye and his team around the area, expressing dissatisfaction over the position of the river in the community, which according to him always overflows during the flood and consequently destroys houses and other valuable properties.
The General Manager, Kogi State Sanitation and Waste Management Board, Mallam Abdulganiu Sanni, advised that every household should have waste bins stressing that this would go a long way to reduce the menace of dumping of refuse in the drainages.
Also speaking, Mrs. Dorcas Enehe, Director of Climate Change, who revealed the 2021 NIMET prediction about the flood, confirmed that sensitization of the flood-prone areas is ongoing in the state.

Doyin Okupe, an erstwhile aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday claimed that former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, is considering him for the presidency in 2023.
Okupe disclosed this while appearing on Arise News TV.
The former presidential aide noted that the criteria laid out by IBB fit his profile perfectly, adding that the former ruler must have had him in mind while reeling out the qualities for the next Nigerian leader.

After being suspended from school for alleged indiscipline and her parents’ assault on teachers, a JSS1 student of Mary Immaculate Secondary School , Ado Ekiti, Gift Agenoisa, has sued the Ekiti State Government, seeking N15 million damages for breach of fundamental rights.
In suit number HAD/01/CR/2021 sworn to at the Ado Ekiti High Court, on her behalf by Mrs Odunayo Agenoisa, she claimed that her suspension from school by government after her parents allegedly beat up some teachers for punishing her for indecent dressing and gross indiscipline, infringed on her rights.
The plaintiff described as cruel and inhuman, the alleged treatment meted to her for coming to school with the indecent hairstyle.
Joined in the suit are: The School Principal, Mrs Oluwasanmi F.M (first respondent); the Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye(second respondent); the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission(third respondent); and the Ekiti State Government (fourth respondent).

In the affidavit attached to the originating summons, the plaintiff claimed that she was singled out of assembly on May 22, 2021, and given 20 lashes of the cane on the order of the school principal for alleged indecent hairstyle.
In her originating summons deposed to by her counsel, Mr Timmy Omotoso, and brought pursuant to Order 2 rules 1,3,4,5 and 6 of the fundamental rights enforcement procedure rules 2009 as preserved by Section 315 of the 1999 constitution, the applicant demanded N15 million damages for her suspension.
She also demanded her immediate reinstatement back to school with unfettered access to all services being rendered therein.
The plaintiff claimed that the beating she got that day resulted in bruises, life-threatening scars and bloodstains on her uniform, adding that she fainted and was rushed to the police clinic in Ado Ekiti, where she was resuscitated.
She claimed further that her letters of protest to the wife of the Ekiti State Governor and some relevant government agencies were not responded to, hence, her resorting to legal action to seek redress.
The plaintiff added that she was being denied access to the school premises and her class on the order of the principal since then.
Meanwhile, the case which came up before Justice Lekan Ogunmoye of the Ekiti State High Court, on Thursday, was adjourned to September 22 for hearing.
On May 22, the plaintiff’s father, also a Police Sergeant, Elijah Agenoisa, allegedly mobilized four armed policemen to the school to manhandle some teachers for scolding his daughter for coming to school with an indecent hairdo against the school rules and regulation.
Consequently, the school suspended his daughter and the Ekiti State Police Command had allegedly queried the policeman, the result of which is unknown.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has accused doctors in Nigeria of playing God.
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) commenced an indefinite nationwide strike on August 2.
The industrial action, to demand better welfare, serves as a reminder to the federal and state governments of the plight of the professionals.
Among others, NARD is complaining of poor working environment in public hospitals, irregular payment of doctor’s salaries, N5,000 hazard allowances last reviewed in 1991.

But Ngige, a medical doctor who graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) in 1979, said the doctors were competing with God.
The minister poured out his heart at the 2nd Summit of Medical Elders Forum (MEF) in Abuja.
He declared that the medical association and health sector had never been in the kind of danger being witnessed.

“God does not want when he gives you powers, you use it to try to say that you are like him or you are competing with him”, NAN quoted him as saying.
“Doctors should ask themselves questions; why is it that it’s when your colleagues are in government that you go on the greatest number of strikes?”
Ngige recalled how Messrs Onyebuchi Chukwu and Isaac Adewole faced strikes during their respective ministerial tenure.
The former Anambra Governor said since the Buhari administration came on board, he had consolidated four strikes which means “something is wrong”.
“We need to ask ourselves questions and be straightforward with the answers. You say they dislike doctors, what did you do for them to dislike you?”, he quipped.

AS Roma are looking at Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, as an ideal option if they fail to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, according to Sky Sports.
Iheanacho only signed a new three-year deal with the Premier League side in April.
However, the Nigerian is now a target for Roma, who will be coached by Jose Mourinho from next season.

As political permutations hot up ahead of the 2023 general election, a group operating under the aegis of “Progressives Consolidation Group”, who are stakeholders within the APC fold, have revealed that they are lobbying for the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
To this end, the group said they have formally written the National Assembly, governors on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political influencers in the country to mobilise themselves for Osinbajo.
Copies of the letter dated July 14, 2021, which was signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, and National Secretary, Eberechukwu Eli Dibia, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja sought the cooperation of senators, members of the House of Representatives to mobilise for Professor Osinbajo ahead of 2023.
In the letter titled: “APC and the future of Nigeria: Why we must get it right and consider the Osinbajo option in 2023″, the group claimed that President Buhari has laid legacies that should be sustained.

They argued that the emergence of Osinbajo would deepen the party and legacies left by President Buhari.
“Your Excellency, we are writing you as the Senate President and as one of the National Leaders of our Party and by whatever parameter of assessment, you remain one of those citizens whom God has chosen to elevate to impact our history through the performance of constitutional responsibilities as well as other innumerable lines of action.
“With history in mind, we, members of the Progressives Consolidation Group (PCG) hereby solemnly join our voices with that of many others in appealing that you throw your weight behind our call for consideration of an Osinbajo successor administration after that of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, would have run a full course in 2023,” the group said.
The group was of the belief that, if Prof. Osinbajo was allowed, it will further stabilise the nation, grow the economy as well as infrastructural development.
According to the PCG’s letter, the APC group comprises sitting and former state governors, serving and former legislators, leaders of women and youths groups, and many stakeholders from the national and state chapters of APC.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that the death of Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari, wife of former Nigerian President, Shehu Shagari, is a painful loss to Nigeria.
Recall that Mrs Hadiza Shagari died of COVID-19 complications on Thursday.
Reacting, Ortom in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, described the deceased as a woman of peace who added immense value to her husband’s administration and continued to play a motherly role to the nation till her demise.
He sympathized with the government and people of Sokoto State as well as other Nigerians over the loss of the former President’s wife.
