Governors of seven states of Peoples Democratic Party met on Friday in Port Harcourt, News Agency of Nigeria reports.<br />
<br />
According to Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant (Electronic Media) to Gov. Nyesom Wike, the meeting was attended by Govs. Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); and Mohammed Mattawale (Zamfara).<br />
<br />
After the meeting, Tambuwal explained that the governors were in Rivers to commend Wike “for his sustained projects delivery’’.<br />
<br />
He said the governors urged him to continue to deliver quality projects and sustain good governance for the development of Rivers State.<br />
<br />
Tambuwal also said that PDP remained strongly united in friendship and brotherhood.<br />
<br />
He said: “We are here as brothers and friends to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the spirit of brotherhood and friendship.<br />
<br />
“We are here to encourage and support him for the good governance he has given to the good people of Rivers State.<br />
<br />
“The 100 days of the second term of Governor Wike is also why we are here.<br />
<br />
“The spirit in Port Harcourt and Rivers State is that of celebration and thanksgiving and gratitude to God for such a wonderful leadership by Governor Wike.<br />
<br />
“We are also here to join him and the good people of Rivers State in thanking God for his leadership and to thank God for giving the state a wonderful leader like him.”

An apprentice tailor in Lagos, Adenike Fatai, has committed suicide barely three months after her boyfriend, Bayo Atanda, reportedly did the same thing.<br />
<br />
Fatai, who hailed from Kwara State, reportedly took a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper around 8.30pm, last Thursday.<br />
<br />
The 25-year-old woman lived with her mother on Igbekele Street, Iyana Cele bus stop, Shibiri area of Lagos State.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that Fatai had been battling depression since her boyfriend, whom she was living with in Orile, a neigbouring community, reportedly took a poison and died.<br />

It was gathered that family and friends of Bayo did not believe the photographer committed suicide, accusing Fatai of killing him. The accusation allegedly heightened the trauma Fatai was going through.<br />
<br />
Although no suicide note was found in the room, our correspondent who visited Fatai’s Facebook page observed that her status updates revolved round death and depression.<br />
<br />
On June 30, she bemoaned the loss of her boyfriend, who had died two weeks earlier.<br />
<br />
She wrote, “How would you do this? Why! Adebayo Olaleye Atanda Peter; still can (can’t) believe this is happening to me. I can (can’t) even say goodbye to you. Ifemi, ayomi; may Almighty Allah forgive all your sins. Rest on!”<br />
<br />
Less than a month after, on July 25, she took to Facebook to express how much she missed her lover stating that, “The saddest part in life is to say goodbye to someone you want to spend your lifetime with.”<br />
<br />
“Feeling angry with myself,” she wrote in the comment section of the post with a friend appealing to her to stop thinking negatively.<br />
<br />
The following day, she wrote, “Yaa Allah (Oh God); heal my heart, make it steadfast and make it strong enough to accept what you have destined for me.”<br />
<br />
On August 15, she waxed philosophical quoting the late American journalist, Norman Cousins, who died of heart failure.<br />
<br />
“Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live,” the post read.<br />
<br />
She uploaded some pictures of herself in cheerful mood few days later. But on September 8, four days to the suicide, she posted the image of an archer ready to shoot an arrow, with a caption, “Ofa iku ojiji koni bae tomotomo (The arrow of death won’t strike you and your children.<br />
<br />
The deceased’s mother, Tawa, said she met her dead when she returned home from a prayer session that evening.<br />
<br />
She stated, “That day, she finished cooking around 7pm and ate. She was outside after eating while I went to the mosque. Around 8pm, she came to the mosque to collect the key to our apartment and I told her to check the shop.<br />
<br />
“On getting home some minutes after, I saw her lying on the floor with a bottle of sniper beside her. I called for help but it was late.”<br />
<br />
Revealing the events leading to the relationship between the lovers, the mother said plans were ongoing to choose a date for their introduction.<br />
<br />
She said, “She was learning tailoring in her sister’s place in Ikorodu. All of a sudden, her boss sent her away. She told me she had got another place to learn the vocation in Orile and that she would be living with a friend. I asked her to come and learn it at my place but she refused.<br />
<br />
“Whenever I asked to see the friend, she would say she was not around. It was when I threatened to disown her that she told me she was living with her boyfriend. I tried to convince her that what she did was wrong, but she said the man’s (Bayo’s) house was close to where she was learning tailoring. I met with the man and he said he really wanted to marry her. He looked very gentle. We were planning the introduction when he died.<br />
<br />
“On a Sunday around 11pm, my daughter called me and started crying on the phone. She said Bayo drank sniper. They took him to the Lagos Island General Hospital, but he died the following morning. That time, she said she would follow him and I tried to caution her.”<br />
<br />
Tawa said Fatai became depressed and relocated to her sister’s house in Ikorodu, adding that she returned to her house after her condition had improved.<br />
<br />
“I never thought she was thinking of suicide because she looked happy. Some clerics warned us that death was hovering around her and I prayed over it.<br />
<br />
“I learnt she called somebody that evening and told the person that she wanted to go and meet Bayo and that she would drink sniper. I don’t know the kind of love she had for him.<br />
<br />
“There was a day a friend of Bayo called her and accused her of killing him. I told her to ignore them. The mistake I made was that I should have changed her SIM card,” she added.<br />
<br />
The deceased’s father, Idris, said, he did not know his daughter was battling depression as they hardly saw each other.<br />
<br />
He stated, “Since her mother and I separated, I usually talked to her (Fatai) on the phone. Probably she would have told me what was bothering her if we had the opportunity of seeing each other.”<br />
<br />
The deceased’s neighbour in Shibiri, where Fatai died, told our correspondent that she liked to be alone.<br />
<br />
“I have observed recently that she rarely mingled with people, but I didn’t know she was contemplating suicide. It was so unfortunate,” the resident, who identified himself only as Sola, said, adding that the incident was reported at the Ojo Police Station.<br />
<br />
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, could not be reached for comment on the incident as calls to his mobile rang out.

Nigerian popstar, Naira Marley fraud trial with the Economic Financial & Crimes Commision, EFCC, would resume next month.<br />

Recall the singer was on the 14th of June released exactly 14 days after he was granted bail by the Ikoyi High court. The trial, however, resumes in a month time as Naira Marley needs to give answer to all charges leveled against him by the EFCC.<br />

EFCC leveled an 11-count charge against Naira Marley. The alleged crimes were in contravention of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and the Cyber Crimes Act, which he risks seven years in jail if found guilty. The charges with suit number FHC/L/178C/19 were filed before a Lagos State High Court. 10 days after his arrest, Naira Marley was arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The controversy over the alleged witch-hunt of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ahead of the 2023 Presidency by a pro-North group in the Presidency is far from over as prominent leaders of the South-West, South-South and South-East have lent their voices to the matter.<br />
<br />
They are a leader of the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo; elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark; and a former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife.<br />
<br />
They spoke just as other groups from the South also queried the motive behind the cabal’s action. They are the Yoruba Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Ijaw Youth Congress<br />
<br />
President Muhammadu Buhari during week replaced the Economic Management Team headed by Osinbajo with the Economic Advisory Council.<br />

The seven-member EAC headed by Prof Doyin Salami is to report directly to the President.  There are also reports Osinbajo has been directed to henceforth seek clarifications before taking major decision on the agencies he supervises.<br />
<br />
The moves have been seen by many as actions deliberately taken by the cabal to reduce the influence of the VP ahead of the 2023 presidential election.<br />
<br />
This is coming barely two months after Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State said there was a need for the country to drop zoning in future elections, including the 2023 presidency to enable the country to have a competent leader..<br />
<br />
While Adebanjo warned that the North should not be trusted, Clark and the IYC said it would only be right for power to return to the South at the expiration of Buhari’s tenure.<br />
<br />
Clark, who said he was not going to comment on any issue about Osinbajo, said, “I do not want to talk about the Vice President because he has been dancing to their tune. All I want to say is that in 2023, the South-East will have it. However, when I am ready to speak on it, I will let you know.”<br />
<br />
Speaking along the same line, the President of the IYC, Mr Eric Omare, said going by an unwritten power rotational agreement between the North and the South, it would be dishonourable for northern leaders to attempt to project one of theirs own for the 2023 presidential election.<br />
<br />
Ezeife said the South-East would lobby other regions to support its bid to land power in 2023. He, however, said if all its efforts failed, the region would know that Igbo were no longer wanted in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He said, “A newspaper quoted me wrongly that I threatened that Nigeria must be given Igbo President in 2023, but there was nothing like that. We shouldn’t use threat; we should employ lobbying as our approach. It is not just a matter of what we like, we would do what it takes to get power.<br />
<br />
“We would organise ourselves in Igboland, make sure that it is only one person that we would bring out. Then, we would lobby, and not threaten, all the other ethnic groups to look at our case. We know that when they see our case, it is a must that an Igbo person would become President.<br />
<br />
“If we do all that and we fail, then we would know we are not wanted in Nigeria anymore. If in 2023 they don’t encourage Igbo to become the President of Nigeria, then you don’t want Igbo as citizens of Nigeria and it should not surprise you if they feel pushed away to join IPOB.”<br />
<br />
On the alleged sidelining of Osinbajo, Ezeife said in the kind of presidential system run by Nigeria, all executive powers derived their root from the Presidency.<br />
<br />
He said, “Therefore, the President may need to give his consent to certain actions and if he does, that doesn’t mean he’s running down that office. I think concluding that way is not fair.”<br />
<br />
Like Clark, Omare stated that it would be the turn of the South-East to produce the next President, adding that it was time for the South to allow the East to produce their candidate.<br />
<br />
He said, “I think it would be too early to make a categorical statement as to whether the North wants to deny the South power in 2023 or not at this point.<br />
<br />
“However, it suffices to say that by 2023, based on the unwritten power rotational arrangement, it would be the turn of the South to produce the President of Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“It is on record that northern leaders have been strong advocates of power rotation; hence it would be most dishonourable and unpatriotic for northern leaders to attempt to deny the South power in 2023. In any case, no particular section of the country has the power to determine who becomes President without the support of the other section.<br />
<br />
“Only the North cannot produce the President without the support of the South. Furthermore, even in the South, the point must be made that it is the turn of the South-East to produce the President in 2023.<br />
<br />
“If the South wants justice from the North, those of us from the South must also be fair to each other by conceding power to the South-East in 2023 to give them a sense of belonging.”<br />
<br />
Adebanjo, who said he would speak on the matter in due time, simply noted, “I have said it before, but they would not listen. Do you just know that it is their (northerners) plot? Did not trust all these people.”

Multi-award winning music producer, Micheal Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, has stated that he has never owed his Mavin staff salary in the seven years of being in operation.<br />

In a recent tweet posted on his Twitter page, Don Jazzy noted that while he keeps hearing that entertainers are not serious persons, he can proudly say he has over 35 employees and he has never owed salary since he founded Marvin records seven years ago. He added that not all companies can come out to say such.<br />

The Federal Government on Friday filed seven counts of treasonable felony and money laundering against the Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore.<br />
<br />
Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and a presidential candidate in the February 2019 presidential election, is charged along with Olawale Bakare, also known as Mandate.<br />
<br />
The charges were signed on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), by Aminu Alilu, a Chief State Counsel in the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice.<br />
<br />

The charges were filed a day before the expiration of the detention order of the Federal High Court in Abuja permitting the Department of State Service to keep the activist for 45 days.<br />
<br />
The detention order elapses on September 21.<br />
<br />
In the charges instituted against the defendants, the prosecution accused Sowore and his co-defendant of committing conspiracy to commit treasonable felony in breach of section 516 of the Criminal Code Act by allegedly staging “a revolution campaign on September 5, 2019 aimed at removing the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.<br />
<br />
The prosecution also accused them of committing the actual offence of reasonable felony in breach of section, 4(1)(c) of the Criminal Code Act, by using the platform of Coalition for Revolution, in August 2019 in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, to stage the #RevolutionNow protest allegedly aimed at removing the President.<br />
<br />
It also accused Sowore of cybercrime offences in violation of section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, by “knowingly” sending “messages by means of press interview granted on Arise Television network which you knew to be false for the purpose of causing insult, enmity, hatred and ill-will on the person of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”<br />
<br />
It also accused Sowore of money laundering offences in breach of section 15(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 by alleged transferring by means of swift wire.<br />
<br />
<br />
The sums of money he was said to have been involved in the alleged transfers were the sums of $19,975 on April 2, 2019; $20,475 on May 21, 2019, $16,975 on June 27, 2019, and another $16,975 on July 16, 2019.<br />
<br />
The DSS arrested Sowore in Lagos on August 2, 2019, following his call for revolution in a protest he organised to take place in some major cities on August 5.

A serial killer, Gracious West, who specialised in killing young women in hotel rooms, has narrated how he strangled seven victims in Lagos, Imo and Rivers states.<br />

The 38-year-old suspect said he went on his murderous mission whenever he had the urge to kill a young woman.<br />
<br />
The suspect, who was arrested on Thursday by personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, explained that he threatened the women, whom he met at clubs, with a knife before tying them with pieces of cloth.<br />
<br />
West is the third member of a syndicate involved in the serial murder of young girls in hotels arrested by the Nigeria Police since the first incident, which happened at D-Line area of Port Harcourt in July 2019.<br />

West, who is the prime suspect in the serial killings, was arrested in Bori in the Khana Local Government Area on his way to Akwa Ibom from Rivers State, after his photograph and a video showing him entering the reception of one of the hotels went viral.<br />
<br />
Speaking on Friday when he was paraded by the police, 38-year-old West explained that he carried out his deadly plans when his victims were asleep after having sex with them.<br />
<br />
“While a victim is sleeping, I will put the kitchen knife on her neck and ask her not to shout. I would threaten to kill her if she shouts. So out of fear, she would not shout and I would tell her that I would not kill her if she cooperates.<br />
<br />
“I would tear the pillowcase and tie their hands and legs and strangle them. While this was going on, some of them would tell me that they had money in their accounts.<br />
<br />
“After confirming how much they had in their accounts, I would collect the pin numbers and at daybreak when I must have killed them, I would go to ATM and collect the money in the account,” West recounted.<br />
<br />
He explained that he used the money he got from the deceased’s bank account to prepare for further lethal operations in hotels in Lagos, Imo and Owerri, adding that his first victim, who he killed in Lagos, had N52,000 in her account.<br />
<br />
“I have killed five girls in Port Harcourt, one in Owerri and one in Lagos. I started the killing in Lagos; that was where I got N52,000. After that, I went to Port Harcourt, then to Owerri. I returned to Port Harcourt and the last woman I met was at a club,” he added.<br />
<br />
The suspect stated that he always collected the mobile phones of her suspects and sold them at the Waterlines area in Port Harcourt, so that the police would not be able to get in touch with the victims’ relatives.<br />
<br />
Surprisingly, West, from Asari-Toru, attributed his action to an unknown force, adding that whenever the urge to kill came, he would not stop until he murdered a young woman in a hotel.<br />
<br />
He said, “After realising my sins, I sought spiritual intervention in a church. I told the pastor that I have been killing girls in hotels and the pastor said that they had a crusade programme and invited me to see the senior pastor but I waited and couldn’t see him.<br />
<br />
“So, I left the church and went back and checked into a hotel. Seriously, I don’t know what makes me to kill; whenever it comes on me, that is when I kill, later I regret and feel sober but after a while, I would go and kill again.”<br />
<br />
However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustapha Dandaura, said the arrest of West became possible with the assistance of one of the hotels that complied with the directive on the installation of closed circuit television.<br />
<br />
The CP said, “The hotel later reported to the police about the development and released to us the telephone number he (West) dropped with the hotel. We began to track him on his phone, and with God on our side, he was arrested along Bori, Ogoni axis, on East-West Road while he was on his way to Akwa Ibom, on Thursday afternoon. Men of the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad were on their usual stop-and-search duties when they intercepted a commercial bus heading towards Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.<br />

“When they asked the passengers in a vehicle to disembark for a search, they saw the suspect in the same attire (a T-shirt and blue trousers) he wore in the viral video. The SARS team called my attention to it on the phone and I asked that he should be brought straight to my office.<br />
<br />
“The moment he stepped into my office, I called him by his name, David West and he answered. He then said to me, ‘Please sir, I am ready to tell you the truth, I don’t want any problem.’<br />
<br />
“It was at that point that I directed that they unlock his handcuffs so that he could relax and be free to talk and give me all the necessary information that I needed. During the interrogation, he confessed that majority of the killings in hotels were done by him. To be sure of what he said, we asked him to name the hotels where he had killed.<br />
<br />
“He brought out the list which matched with the hotels where the killings took place in the state. He also said he was a member of De-gbam cult.”<br />
<br />
West, according to the police commissioner, did not have a gun, but killed his victims by tying and strangling them.<br />
<br />
Dandaura said the suspect also confessed to funding his stay in hotels with the money he illegally got from his victims’ debit cards.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, has given an insight into the case the Federal Government will on September 26 present to a British court challenging the $9.6bn judgment delivered in favour of Process and Industrial Developments in August.<br />
<br />
Malami, who spoke with newsmenon Friday, said the case had yet to reach appeal level, but at the stage of determining whether or not the P&ID should be allowed to enforce the award of $9.6bn by an arbitration panel against Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He said the Federal Government would tender before the court evidence that the Gas Supply Processing Agreement signed in 2010, which led to the August 2019 judgment of the British court, was rooted in fraud and corrupt practices.<br />

<br />
Malami said although the court had ruled that Nigeria should pay P&ID $9.6bn, it had yet to grant the firm the go-ahead to seize Nigeria’s assets in enforcement of the award given in favour of the firm.<br />
<br />
The AGF said the Federal Government would tender, among others, the investigative report of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as well as Thursday’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicting P&ID Limited which was incorporated in the British Virgin Island, and its Nigerian affiliate of fraud.<br />
<br />
The AGF said the FG would also tender the charges pending against firms and individuals who played one role or another in the alleged fraudulent GSPA.<br />
<br />
He said, “It has not got to any appeal stage as such.<br />
<br />
“The arbitral panel had no enforcement power. So, when an award is made you have to approach the conventional court for the enforcement of the award.<br />
<br />
“What they (P&ID) did was to approach the conventional court for the enforcement of the award.<br />
<br />
“The conventional court said it was not going to give an order for the enforcement of the order until they were heard.<br />
<br />
“They had wanted an order ex parte without putting us on notice to attach (for seizure) our assets. But the court said it would have to hear from the other side (Nigeria) in the enforcement proceedings.<br />
<br />
“The court fixed September 26 for the hearing of arguments by the parties as to whether to allow for the enforcement or not to allow enforcement.<br />
<br />
“So, it is not about an appeal now. The court’s pronouncement as to what amount of money to be paid has been made by the court.<br />
<br />
“They now approached the court to allow them to attach Nigerian assets in fulfilment of the award that was granted. The court fixed September 26 for the entertainment of arguments as to whether or not it would allow the attachment of Nigeria’s assets.<br />
<br />
“So, we are going to the British court to argue that they should not be granted the power to attach the assets.<br />
<br />
“The only thing that can be of help to Nigeria in stopping the enforcement of the entire award is proof of corrupt practices as the basis for the arbitral award.<br />
<br />
“So, we called for investigation as to the relationship between local partners component and international partners component.<br />
<br />
“And arising from the proof of evidence that we have in support of the charges that were filed by the EFCC, there is evidence that money changed hands between international partners and officials of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources influencing things that had to do with the agreement, influencing the formation of the agreement, influencing what clauses should go into the agreement, influencing the officials to ensure the by-passing of the vetting by the Federal Ministry of Justice, influencing the by-passing of the presentation of the agreement before the Federal Executive Council.<br />
<br />
“So, we have at our disposal proof that they sent money to Nigerian officials, and in return for the money that was sent to Nigerian officials, there was a compromise all through the creation of a fraudulent and deceitful agreement.<br />
<br />
“Some of them have now pleaded guilty. So we are now armed with investigation report establishing corrupt practices. We are now armed with charges pending before the court arising from the fraudulent agreement.”<br />
<br />
Malami said the FG would approach the court to set aside the award because the agreement was fraudulent.<br />
<br />
He added that once “the court comes to know the existence of fraud, it would realise that the tribunal couldn’t have handed down the award against Nigeria”.<br />
<br />
Asked how many persons had been indicted in the EFCC’s investigative report, he said, “There are two cases filed so far and there are four parties.<br />
<br />
“One of them is Process and Industrial Developments Limited incorporated in British Virgin Island, the local company they registered here, Process and Industrial Developments (Nigeria) Limited. There is also Mohammad Kuchazi, and then Grace Taiga. Grace Taiga was one of the officers.”<br />
<br />
He also said there was possibility of filing charges against more individuals and entities.<br />
<br />
He said, “We cannot rule out the possibility of charging more. But so far, these are the ones that have been charged.”<br />
<br />
Asked whether the FG would reinforce its legal team in the UK ahead of the September 26 proceedings, he said, “It is too early to decide”.<br />
<br />
He added, “But we are having a general appraisal.<br />
<br />
“It is the outcome of the general appraisal that will determine if the need for reinforcing the team arises.<br />
<br />
“We have not taken a decision over it yet. But we will meet and review the whole thing generally and take a decision.”<br />
<br />
The Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Thursday found P&ID Limited incorporated in British Virgin Island, and its Nigerian affiliate, P&ID Nigeria Limited, guilty of fraud, tax evasion, money laundering and other sundry offences.<br />
<br />
Justice Ekwo, who convicted the companies, also ordered their winding up and the forfeiture of their assets to the FG, after two men said to be directors of the firms pleaded guilty to the charges on behalf of the companies.<br />
<br />
The EFCC on Friday arraigned a former Director, Legal Services of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Grace Taiga, on charges of bribery and other sundry offences in connection with the controversial GSPA, which led to the $9.6bn judgment.<br />
<br />
The prosecution accused her of, among other charges, receiving a bribe through her offshore bank account in signing, alongside then-Minister of Petroleum Resources, Rilwan Lukman (deceased), the agreement between P&ID and the FG through the ministry on January 11, 2010.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the Apo Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Friday ordered that a former Director, Legal Services of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Grace Taiga, charged with offences connected with the controversial P&ID $9.6bn judgment should be remanded at the Suleja Prison in Niger State.<br />

This came after the defendant pleaded not guilty to the eight counts preferred against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.<br />
<br />
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi subsequently fixed September 25 for the hearing of her bail application.<br />
<br />
The prosecution accused her of, among other charges, receiving a bribe through her offshore bank account in signing, alongside then-Minister of Petroleum Resources, Rilwan Lukman (deceased), the Gas Supply Processing Agreement between the Process and Industrial Developments Limited and the Federal Government through the ministry on January 11, 2010.<br />
<br />
She was also accused of violating various laws by entering into the GSPA without a prior approval by the Federal Executive Council and a certificate of no-objection to the contract from the Bureau of Public Enterprise.<br />
<br />
The charges are in connection with the controversial Gas Supply Processing Agreement which led to the recent $9.6bn judgement given against Nigeria and in favour of Process and Industrial Developments by a British court.<br />
<br />
Taiga was said to have signed as Nigeria’s witness to the GSPA while Lukman signed as Nigeria’s representative.<br />
<br />
After she pleaded not guilty to the charges, her lawyer, Ola Olanipekun (SAN), who said his client was suffering from hypertension and diabetes, pleaded with the court to allow her to be remanded in the custody of the EFCC.<br />
<br />
But the EFCC’s lawyer, Bala Sanga, opposed the request, insisting her proper place of custody after arraignment was in prison.<br />
<br />
The judge agreed with the prosecuting counsel and ordered her remand in prison.<br />
<br />
Justice Adeniyi however added that Taiga should be accorded due medical treatment in custody pending the hearing and determination of her bail application.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2024, the Premier League club said on Thursday.<br />

Hudson-Odoi’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season and he was heavily linked with German champions Bayern Munich, whose interest in the 18-year-old was rejected by Chelsea earlier this year.<br />

“Callum Hudson-Odoi has committed himself to Chelsea Football Club by signing a new five-year contract,” the club said in a statement.<br />

Nigerians spent over 1, 294, 602, 827 billion naira watching movies in the cinemas for July and August.<br />

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the figures are according to data provided by the cinemas and compiled by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).<br />
<br />
Following its lead in June, ‘Bling Lagosians’ led the first week of July by raking in 37, 409, 372 million naira. However, it was one of the only two Nigerian films in the top 20 movies.<br />
<br />
The other was Kunle Afoloyan’s ‘Mokalik’ starting the month at number nine while ‘Avengers: Endgame’ sank to 18th position, earning 151, 966 Naira that week.<br />

<br />
By the second week, ‘Spiderman: Far from home’ edged ‘Bling Lagosians’ out of the first position. It had a 34 per cent decrease in revenue while ‘Spiderman’ earned 64, 072, 680 million Naira.<br />

‘Spiderman’ remained on top for the third week, although earnings decreased by 36 per cent. However, general grosses dropped by 20 per cent while ‘Lion King’ debuted for a few days, raking in 4, 040, 854 million Naira.<br />
<br />
By the fourth week, ‘Lion King’ had settled in and climbed to number one with 108, 447, 093 million Naira. ‘Bling Lagosians’ stayed at number three with ‘Mokalik’ at number 13.<br />
<br />
Other Nigerian films in top 20 included ‘Rant Queens’ at number eight, ‘The Gift’ at number eleven, ‘Wakill’ at 15 and ‘Coming From Insanity’ at 17.<br />
<br />
Buzz around ‘Lion King’ dropped by the fifth week with earnings down by 33 per cent, totalling 73, 040, 701 million Naira. All the top 20 films earned 136, 936, 341 million naira in total.<br />
<br />
Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw’ debuted and snatched the number spot with 104, 443, 577 million naira. On Nollywood’s side, ‘The Set Up’ entered late into the week and raked in 187, 500 naira.<br />
<br />
Although revenue dropped by 48 per cent, ‘Fast and Furious’ maintained the number one position while ‘The Set Up’ made its real box office debut at number three with 25, 634, 606 million Naira.<br />
<br />
By the next week, all films maintained their positions but the ‘Bling Lagosians’ sank to number eight after spending eight weeks in the box office. ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ debuted leading to a week total of 113, 615, 730 million Naira.<br />
<br />
In week nine, ‘Angel Has Fallen’ climbed to the number one spot, making 64, 227, 240 million naira. ‘The Set Up’ was pushed to fourth position with a 49 per cent drop in revenue.<br />
<br />
For the last weekend in August, ‘Bling Lagosians’ settled at number 20 with ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ struggling at number 19. ‘The Set Up’ had dropped to number five. (NAN)

<div style="text-align: justify;">Earlier, in a statement on Wednesday, the company said it will identify and seize Nigeria’s assets abroad because the Buhari administration has shown it is unwilling to negotiate the $9.6 billion judgement debt.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">This was before a judgement of a federal high court in Abuja which ordered the forfeiture of P&ID assets to the federal government on Thursday.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Two directors of the firm pleaded guilty to a 10-count charge of economic sabotage and money laundering brought against them by the government.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The company accused the government of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out targeted campaign of detentions aimed at individuals associated with P&ID.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“The detentions are illegal, and appear to be aimed at coercing false testimony to support Nigeria’s claim that P&ID’s award is a fraud,” it said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“Nigeria’s Attorney General Abubakar Malami has acknowledged that his aim is to provoke global opposition against P&ID, by undertaking these attacks. P&ID calls on the Government of Nigeria to accept its responsibilities under the law, and to cease the unlawful detentions.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The company had claimed it entered a contract to build a gas processing plant in Calabar, Cross River state, with the Nigerian government in 2010, but that the deal collapsed because the government did not fulfil its own end of the bargain.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">It then sued Nigeria at the British court, and secured a $6.6 billion judgement – the sum of which has accumulated to $9.6 billion – in its favour.</div>

El Salvador’s former president Antonio Saca has been sentenced to two years in prison for bribery, the attorney general’s office said.<br />
<br />
The 54-year-old was found guilty of attempting to bribe a court employee with 10,000 dollars in a bid to obtain information about a case against him, newspaper La Prensa Grafica reported.<br />
<br />
Saca, who served as president from 2004 to 2009, “confessed to having committed the crimes attributed to him,” the attorney general’s office tweeted.<br />
<br />
The former president is already serving a 10-year sentence for misuse of some 300 million dollars of public funds and money laundering.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">According to Yemi Cole, an associate professor of law at the University of Lagos who made the presentation, the report established that the corruption in the power sector “manifests significantly in the process and procedure for contracts to certain (privileged corporations)”.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“The total estimated financial loss to Nigeria from corruption in the electricity sector from the return to democracy since 1999 to date is over Eleven trillion Naira (N11 Trillion Naira),” the report stated.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“This represents public funds, private equity and social investment (or divestments) in the power sector.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“It is estimated that it may reach over Twenty Trillion Naira (N20 Trillion Naira) in the next decade given the rate of Government investment and funding in the power sector amidst dwindling fortune and recurrent revenue shortfalls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“The entire infrastructure of a community – its home, offices, agriculture, industries, hospitals, banks, shopping malls, transport, communications, and recreational facilities – all depend on electricity as a form of energy.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The report also provided details of electricity contracts where it alleged that huge sums of money were embezzled, as well as contracts that were abandoned despite funds released for its implementation.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The report recommended, among others, that bidding and award of contract processes in the sector should be more transparent.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">It also suggests that the “federal government should consider fully divesting its states in the power sector to allow for efficient, decentralized sector governance by federal and state governments, as appropriate, in line with the provisions of the Second Schedule, paragraph 13 and 14 of the Constitution for the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)”.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">In his remarks, Ahmed Abdul, who represented Saleh Mamman, the minister of power, said: “I will convey it to the honourable minister. We are going to study it and advise the government as appropriate”.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Sunday Oduntan, chairman of Association of Nigeria Electricity Distributors, said the report should be treated with seriousness and consequence by the government.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“There has been a lot of reports in this county and I have not seen any government that will say let me go and see those reports. I am saying there is a need for there to be consequences,” he said.</div>

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has berated President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government for deliberately neglecting Rivers State in the recent release of N148 billion for road projects across the country.<br />

He declared that the action of the Federal Government is the most shameful act of marginalisation in a Federation where Rivers State contributes to the financial sustenance of the country.<br />
<br />
The Governor spoke on Wednesday in Port Harcourt before commissioning the New Rivers State Civil Servants Quarters at Amassoma Street as part of his first 100 days for a second term.<br />
<br />
He said: “The Federal Government released N148 billion for the construction of roads and it did not consider one Road in Rivers State. Look at the condition of the East West Road.<br />

“Shame on those who say they are working with the current Federal Government, but cannot protect the interest of Rivers State in that Government.<br />
<br />
“We are producing oil that finances projects in the country and the Federal Government can release N148 billion for roads and Rivers State was neglected. You are working with the Federal Government and you cannot attract projects to Rivers State. Anyone who is in APC and is from Rivers State, shame on you”.<br />
<br />
He said as politicians in APC, they should be able to plead with the Federal Government to site projects in Rivers State to expand their political relevance.<br />
<br />
“You are there, you cannot even say for my sake help me and give me one road so I can go home and tell my people this is what I brought to Rivers State.<br />
<br />
“What offence has Rivers State committed in this country that this Federal Government cannot for one day remember the State. They have our son who was their Director General. If for nothing, since he was your Director General, help him and do one project for his people.<br />
<br />
“Tomorrow you will say Rivers people should vote for you. Which vote. We wont do that. Nobody is a slave. We are not slaves. We cannot be conquered by anybody.”<br />
<br />
Wike said that his focus was the development of Rivers State and not the promotion of political parties.

The Police in Rivers State have arrested an ex-militant Gracious David West, 26, alleged to be responsible for the murder of about 13 women.<br />
<br />
West was declared wanted by the police on Wedneaday after a Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) footage showed he had booked into a hotel with a young woman who was found dead on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that the suspect confessed to have killed five women in similar manner in Imo State and seven in Port Harcourt City.<br />
<br />
The Nation gathered that he was arrested on Wednesday along East-West Road while he was fleeing to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.<br />

A native of Buguma LGA of Rivers State, West was alleged to be a renowned armed robber who was rehabilitated by a church and was assisted to secure a job at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.<br />
<br />
But the suspect was said to have continued his criminal lifestyle and was declared wanted by the Police in June last year. He was said to have been on the run until the CCTV footage exposed him as a member of the syndicate that had been killing women in cold blood.<br />
<br />
West, it was gathered, told detectives that he was under a curse from his community and it was responsible for his actions.<br />
<br />
Narrating how he strangled his victims, he said: “We were inside the club then we discussed on how much I will pay her. After that we left the club to the hotel at Osas Road. When we got there, they took her up and I said let me look for a way to arrange for food that we will both eat.<br />
<br />
“After eating, we slept till the next morning around 5:30am. I brought out a knife. She was unaware there was a knife. So, I told her not to shout that if she does I will use the knife on her.<br />
<br />
“Out of fear she kept quite. During that time the television volume was loud. Then I used the wrapper to tie her hands her legs from the back and strangled her with pillow case.”<br />
<br />
Confirming his arrest through their official Twitter handle, the police said the suspect was a member of the Degbam cult group, adding that he had made useful statements.<br />
<br />
“Investigation is on with a view to ascertaining his motives and possible accomplices. The Commissioner of Police Rivers State, Mustapha Dandaura will be briefing the media on this significant police breakthrough on September 20,” the police said.

Many Nigerians have been shunning trips to South Africa in the last two weeks.<br />

It was gathered on Thursday that since the latest xenophobic attacks on Nigerians by South Africans, many travellers had been boycotting trips to the former apartheid enclave.<br />

Also on Thursday, the House of Representatives described the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama’s denial of its invitation as an insult.<br />
<br />
The House stated this just as the Federal Government disclosed that Nigeria and South Africa would set up a bilateral-commission aimed at ending xenophobia.<br />

In spite of the peace initiative, a number of travel agents told one of our correspondents that Nigerians were not buying tickets to South Africa, except for special reasons.<br />
<br />
I haven’t sold tickets to Johannesburg for two weeks – Agent<br />
<br />
“I have not booked a single ticket to Johannesburg in the last two weeks,” a travel agent, who did not want to be named revealed.<br />
<br />
“Nobody is going there at the moment. It is as if there is a total boycott except it is extremely important. Since the problem between Nigeria and South Africa began, the only people travelling are those that had booked their flights long before now and students that need to return to school and have no choice but to resume,” the agent said.<br />
<br />
Another Lagos-based agent said the situation had degenerated to the point that special travel packages that were put together for tourists to the country had either been cancelled or diverted to some other destinations as people were no longer interested.<br />
<b><br /></b><b>Nigerian tourists changing destinations from SA to Dubai</b><br />
<br />
According to the agent, Nigerian tourists are changing their vacation destinations to Dubai, Mauritius and other places.<br />
<br />
“There are people with pending tickets that have requested change of airline or destination. Even people scheduled to travel; some have said they no longer want to travel to South Africa,” he said.<br />
<br />
Findings show that South African Airways, which operates daily flights between Lagos and Johannesburg, has been affected.<br />
<br />
South African Airways enjoys a near monopoly on the route being the only airline that offers direct flights from Lagos to Johannesburg; other airlines on that route such as Kenyan Airway and Rwandair have to get to Nairobi and Kigali respectively, before taking off to Johannesburg. The airline, when contacted, declined to comment on the issue.<br />
<b><br /></b><b>I left SA when attacks became frequent – Mother of two</b><br />
<br />
Meanwhile, a woman who was among those evacuated on Wednesday shared her experience, saying that she decided to leave South Africa when the attacks became frequent.<br />
<br />
The single mother of two, Ololade Atere, from Oyo State, said her nail studio was destroyed in the recent xenophobic attacks.<br />
<br />
Atere said, “My experience was bad. I was into fixing of nails and one day I got a call that my shop had been destroyed. I decided to come home because the violence became too much and I couldn’t keep running with my two kids.<br />
<br />
“I lived in South Africa for five years, but I have no plans of going back. I am tired of the violence. I have to be safe. I am home now. I have to find a job or business.<br />
<br />
“I left Nigeria when I was pregnant. The intention was to have my baby, have some travel experience and return. I wanted to come back after I had my first baby but people convinced me to stay. But now, I have had enough.”<br />
<b><br /></b><b>S’Africa said my children were its citizens – Mother</b><br />
<br />
Atere said she was supposed to be among the first batch of Nigerians to return, but was stopped at the airport.<br />
<br />
“They said I couldn’t travel with my kids because I gave birth to them in South Africa and they are citizens,” she said.<br />
<br />
She added that she was made to swear an affidavit before she was allowed to bring the children with her to Nigeria.<br />
<i><br /></i><i>‘I left my child in S’Africa’</i><br />
<br />
Another returnee, who identified himself as Uchenbi, told the News Agency of Nigeria that South Africans harboured hostility towards Nigerians.<br />
<br />
He stated, “South Africans are angry at Nigerians for no reason and would blame them for whatever reason they deem fit.”<br />
<br />
Uchenbi, who was in South Africa for 12 years before he returned to Nigeria on Wednesday, said he left his child in South Africa, while she was sleeping.<br />
<br />
The man, who is married to a South African, said his wife would have suffered, if he had been killed in South Africa.<br />
<b><br /></b><b>S’African police didn’t probe my husband killing – Woman</b><br />
<br />
Another returnee, Blessing Chioma, accused the South African police of inaction when her husband was killed in 2012.<br />
<br />
Chioma said, ”I’m coming from South Africa, Johannesburg; I was married to a Nigerian, but South Africans killed him during the xenophobic attacks. I reported the case to the police, they know about it; they look for the guys, but you won’t know them because they come in groups, so nothing was done; the case is closed,” she said.<br />
<br />
”Since then I’ve been coping with the children, but I returned them to Nigeria because I was no more meeting up in training them. So they’re here now in Nigeria; I came back to take care of them, but we came with nothing because they burnt our shops.”<br />

A 45-year-old mother and her two children died on Saturday after consuming suspected poisonous yam flour in Odo-Ayedun Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Areas of Ekiti State<br />

It was gathered that yam flour, which they consumed, was procured by the husband and prepared by the mother of two.<br />

All members of the family who ate the meal were found lifeless after dinner, except the father who is in a critical state at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido Ekiti.<br />

A source, who craved anonymity, said two dogs, which reportedly ate crumbs of the food, were also found dead in the apartment.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that the neighbours, who were thrown into mourning after discovering the incident on Saturday, alerted the police.<br />

Lawmaker representing Ikole constituency II at the Ekiti State House of Assembly , Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, confirmed the tragedy to newsmen on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.<br />
<br />
Aribasoye had raised the issue at the plenary of the House where he called for sympathy and investigation into the matter.<br />
<br />
Recounting the sordid scenario to newsmen, he said: “A great tragedy occurred at Odo Ayedun Ekiti on Saturday. it was a mournful day for us as a family of three died mysteriously.<br />
<br />
“ A mother and her two children all died after eating yam flour. The remote cause of the incident is still unknown as members of the community are still in shock.”<br />
<br />
Speaker of Ekiti Assembly Funminiyi Afuye sympathised with Aribasoye and the entire people of his constituency for the tragic incident.<br />
<br />
He, however, directed the House Committee on health to launch investigation into the matter with a view to unravelling the causes of the mysterious incident.<br />
<br />
When contacted, the police public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu confirmed the incident.<br />
<br />
He said the police will join hands with other institutions to investigate the cause of the deaths.

A middle-aged man whose identity was still unknown was washed away on Thursday night by flood at Oluyole, in Ibadan South West Local Government area of Oyo state following a torrential downpour in the city.<br />

Many areas of the city were flooded, while scores of people were said to have been trapped when bridges and culverts were rendered impassable by the surging flood.<br />

A lot of roads, bridges, and culverts were damaged, while some people lost their personal belongings.<br />
<br />
Other areas that were affected by the flood are Alaro, Zartech, Oluyole extension, Idi-Ayunre, Olodo, New Garagge , parts of Gbekuba area, Apata, and Omi Adio , in Ido Local Government Area of the state.<br />
<br />
At Alaro, Zartech area of Oluyole extension, the only bridge that links the people to the city was completely submerged by water, while many residents were prevented from gaining access to their homes.<br />
<br />
The victim of about six hours rain was said to have been washed away by the flood when he attempted to cross a submerged bridge at the Sumal area of Oluyole Industrial extension .<br />
<br />
People were seen around the area early Thursday still searching for the victim, however, the water level was still on the high side, yet to subside.<br />
<br />
According to eyewitness account, efforts of rescuer were undermined by the heavy downpour, as sympathisers were prevented from searching for the victim due to the rising level of water.<br />
<br />
The state government has sympathised with the victims of the flood , and promised to do everything possible to mitigate such occurrence in the future.<br />
<br />
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources , Hon. Kehinde Ayoola who spoke with The Nation yesterday on the flood disaster admitted that there were damages to bridges, culverts and roads by the flashes of flood on Wednesday , but said he was yet to receive report of the missing person.<br />
<br />
” The area you just mentioned, the Alaro area, Oluyole extension area, yes, there were flashes of flood there and it also happened at Joyce B , at Olodo area of Egbeda, and at an area called Jenriyin , Kute community , in Lagelu Local Government Area. So, we have been there to make an on the spot assessment, and we have taken note of what to be done to the hydrological infrastructures there in those places .<br />
<br />
” For example, culverts, bridges and water channels, we have taken note of what the government can do. And we have also appealed to our people that they should stop dropping refuse in waterways , we have also appealed to them not to wade through water floods and they should always evacuate anywhere when there is heavy rain and flood. The government is on top of the situation.<br />
<br />
” There are damages to bridges, culverts and roads, fine, yes that is true, and water entered people’s homes, we sympathise with such people and we are doing everything humanly possible to ensure this doesn’t occur again, ” he stated.

Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, petitioned the United Nations and its relevant agencies over alleged human rights abuses suffered by its people at the hands of the Nigerian government.<br />

A statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Director, Comrade Emma Powerful, which was made available to NE, in Abakaliki, hinted that there was hope that the UN and officials in Geneva, were giving adequate attention to the various human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated against members of the group.<br />

The statement read, “The enigma championing the current restoration quest of Biafra and leader of the indomitable Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, today, the 18th day of September 2019, scored yet another mark as he led a delegation of Biafrans to an all-important series of meetings with various United Nations agencies and its officials in Geneva.<br />

“He demanded urgent action against the numerous rights abuses inflicted daily upon Biafrans and the need to support the undeniable right of Biafrans to self-determination as enshrined in law, statute and various UN conventions. The case of RUGA settlement by stealth was also raised and the august body was left in doubt that Biafrans will never allow Fulani settlements in Biafraland.<br />

“Every issue concerning our people is now before the various arms and agencies of the United Nations. Our case will no longer be ignored.<br />
<br />
“‘Every issue concerning our people’ as mentioned by Kanu ranges from the incessant killing of Biafrans in their own land, extortion and killing of Biafran motorcyclists and commercial drivers.<br />
<br />
“Exploiting the rights of indigenous people to self-determination as provided by the UN charter 2007, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in his usual charismatic poise has conscientiously pursued freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra.<br />
<br />
“He also raised the issue of the continued illegal detention of Omoleye Sowore, the relentless persecution of the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria led by Sheikh El-Zakzaky, ongoing tragic ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt and plight of Christian minorities in core North. From every indication, there is palpable air of assurance that all the years of neglect of Biafra as a global issue requiring serious attention is now a thing of the past.”

A member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Ajibola Muraina (PDP-Oyo), has urged his colleagues to donate at least N100,000 each for the cabin crew of Air Peace Airline involved in airlifting stranded Nigerians from South Africa.<br />
<br />
Muraina made the call while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.<br />
<br />
He commended the House for taking the lead in honoring the chairman of the Airline, Allen Onyema, whose airline had done the airlifting free of charge.<br />
<br />
The legislator said the pilots and cabin crew refused to collect their due allowances, offering it as their contributions to nation-building.<br />
<br />

Muraina said the actions of Onyema and his staff should reawaken the milk of kindness Nigerians are know for all over the world.<br />
<br />
“The National Assembly has taken the lead in appreciating the return of the spirit of selfiessness, being our brothers’ keepers and exhibiting milk of kindness.<br />
<br />
“I humbly suggest that the National Assembly should demonstrate a further lead by example.<br />
<br />
“I suggest most humbly that my noble colleagues from the National Assembly should consider making token donations from their salaries, whatever amount they deem it starting from N100,000 each upwards, for the cabin crew of Air Peace.<br />
<br />
“They have worked and continue to work without taking any allowance, the Nigerians that have been evacuated back to Nigeria and those that may still further be evacuated.<br />
<br />
“This token may be useful for the evacuated Nigerians in whatever form, the cabin crew would also have been appreciated somehow.<br />
<br />
“This may signpost a new beginning of Nigerians demonstrating milk of kindness towards each other,” he said.<br />
<br />
The lawmaker said that the conduct of Onyema should be seen as a clarion call on all rich Nigerians to be selfless, willing and ready at all times to assist fellow countrymen.<br />

The Initiative to Save Democracy, a pressure group, has said that the relationship between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo remains mutually respectful.<br />
<br />
The group’s President, Mr Oladele Peter, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, condemned individuals and groups sowing seeds of discord between both leaders.<br />
<br />
The statement came on the heels of speculations about a crack in the relationship between Buhari and  Osinbajo,<br />
<br />
“As much as we know, the relationship between the president and the vice president remains cordial and any group or individual insinuating otherwise should desist as this is capable of distracting the leadership of the country and plunging the nation into political crisis.”<br />

He attributed the development to some faceless elements desperate for power, adding that the group had uncovered another plot by the same individuals to make public some fake documents with the aim of defaming Osinbajo.<br />
<br />
Peter, however, assured that the attempts of the elements would remain futile, noting that the truth about everything would eventually come to light.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has signed a contract extension that will see him stay at Old Trafford until, 2024 with the option of a further year.<br />

The Sweden international, 25, has made 74 appearances for the club since joining from Benfica for £31m in June 2017.<br />

“Since the day I arrived at United it has felt like home,” said Lindelof.<br />

“I’ve grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years.”<br />

Lindelof has started every game for United so far this season alongside £80m summer signing Harry Maguire.<br />

He is the second Manchester United player to commit his future to the club this week after goalkeeper David de Gea signed a new deal on Monday.<br />

“I know that everyone at the club shares this vision and will give everything to get Manchester United back to where it belongs,” added Lindelof, who began his career at Swedish club Vasteras before moving to Benfica in 2011.<br />

“I’m still young and know I can improve further but with the help of the boss and his coaching staff, I believe that only good things are ahead for this great club.”<br />

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Victor has established himself here and has become a very important part of our team. He brings calmness on the pitch and I can see that he is determined to help this club and to be successful here.<br />

The Delivery Boy’ and ‘King of Boys’ snagged the most nominations for the 2019 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).<br />
<br />
AMAA is Africa’s oldest and biggest academy award for films. It is presented annually to recognize excellence among professionals working in, or non-African professionals who have contributed to, the African film industry.<br />
<br />
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the much-anticipated nomination list, featuring films from across Africa, was live broadcast by the academy on Wednesday night.<br />
<br />
Nigeria scored the most nominations with the Adekunle ‘Nodash’ Adejuyigbe-directed film ‘The Delivery Boy’ scoring 12 nominations while Kemi Adetiba-directed ‘King of Boys’ pulled eight nominations.<br />

Actors in ‘The Delivery Boy’, a film that explores the backstory of terrorists, earned nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Jemima Osunde) and Promising Actor (Jammal Ibrahim).<br />

The film, produced by Something Unusual Studios with technical work by The Elite Film Team (TEFT), also snagged several production nominations.<br />
<br />
They include nominations for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Sound, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Editing and Best Achievement in Screenplay.<br />
<br />
Other nominations are Best Nigerian Film, Best Achievement in Production Design and Best Film while Adejuyigbe got nominated for Best Director alongside Kemi Adetiba for ‘King of Boys’.<br />
<br />
On its part, Adetiba’s 2018 thriller earned Adesua Etomi-Wellington a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and musician, Reminisce got Best Actor in a Supporting Role.<br />
<br />
The movie was also nominated for Best Film, Best Achievement in Visual Effects and Best Achievement in Costume Design.<br />
<br />
Other Nigerian films nominated include ‘Up north’, Beverly Naya’s anti-skin bleaching documentary, ‘Skin’, ‘Lara and the Beat’, ‘Hello Rain’, ‘Make Room’ and ‘Light in the Dark’.<br />
<br />
NAN reports that the 15th edition of the much-anticipated awards will hole on Oct. 26  in Lagos.
