Fully opens to traffic at 12noon today. Thank you all for your patience. Drive safely.”</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Recall that Fashola, who is a former governor of the State had during the week, said the bridge will reopen for traffic ‘’this weekend’’. </p> <p>He had said the lane markings and finishing touches would be done within the next 48 to 72 hours.</p> <p>The Lagos State Government had shut down the Third Mainland Bridge on the 26th February.</p> <p>The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde said the total closure of the bridge will help contractors move equipment off the bridge.</p>

Reuben Ibitoye and Apostle Shina Ibiyemi, respectively, was issued at the end of plenary meeting of Kwara CAN, proprietors of grant aided schools, heads of bloc, heads of different denominations, among others held at St Joseph Catholic church, Taiwo Road, Ilorin.</p> <p>The Secretary, Nigerian Baptist Conference, Rev. Dr. Victor Adebayo, said the Christian body will employ every legal means to defend its faith and properties.</p> <p>The rejection of the state government’s position is coming barely hours after the pronouncement of its approval for the use of hijab.</p> <p>“In principle and practice, schools established by the Christian body are mission grant aided schools and not general public schools, as such, can not technically be Islamised starting with the use of hijab,” the body declared.</p> <p>Recall that the state government in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, on Thursday night, approved the use of hijab in Christian grant-aided schools in the State and endorsed freedom of worship.</p> <p>The government also promised to set up a technical committee to look into the demand for the return of mission schools to their owners, just as it directed that the ten schools shut down over hijab issue be reopened to commence classes in March.</p>

The DSS and the police later denied attempting to arrest Igboho following the outrage that greeted the faceoff.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Commenting on the development, the Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun, told newsmen  on Saturday that the attempt to arrest Igboho was an attack on the Yoruba people.</p> <p>Igboho had in January issued an eviction notice to herdsmen accused of sundry crimes in Ibarapaland and enforced same.</p> <p>Oladokun, who spoke on behalf of the people of Ibarapaland, said, “There is no how we can disconnect the attempted arrest of Chief Sunday Igboho from the event that happened in Igangan. As the oppressed and the subjugated ones, we being the one that Sunday Igboho came to liberate, we will not stand for any attempt to arrest him.</p> <p>“I speak on behalf of all Ibarapa indigenes and I beg all Yoruba people to wake up and see any form of arrest of Chief Sunday Igboho as a final attack against the Yoruba race and we must not stand for it. The man dies in him who keeps silent in the face of tyranny.</p> <p>“The police, the DSS should rather arrest Iskilu Wakili, they should rather put Seriki Saliu behind bars if Buhari who controls the DSS really wants to prove the purity of his ethnicity, if he wants to prove the morality and the integrity that he portends, he should ought to rather fish out the criminal-minded ones among the Fulani people.”</p> <p>Wakili, a Fulani herdsman whose origin the villagers don’t know, is said to be more infamous than the ejected Seriki Fulani, Abdulkadri Saliu. Farmers and residents of Ibarapaland have accused him of displacing them from their farms. He has also been accused of rape, kidnapping, amongst others.</p> <p>This newspaper had reported that Taiwo Adisa, Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, said the men of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, aka Amotekun, have been mandated to go after Wakili but the residents of Ayete said Wakili has not been apprehended.</p>

Interesting.</p> <p>“I’ve always been calm in the storm.”</p> <p>He, however, did not disclose reasons but it is likely the song was banned for the use of certain words.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Some lyrics from the song are “Thunder fire you for when you cheated on me”, “E no go better for you”.</p> <p>Although it’s a breakup song, this may seem as offensive and a breach of NBC code.</p> <p>Ric Hassani is popularly known for his hit single “Gentleman”, and his debut album “The African Gentleman”.</p> <p>He just released his new second album “The Prince I became”.</p>

Our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is on top of that. He approved the deployment of technology for us to improve our communication last year 2020.</p> <p>“This year, we are definitely hoping to start in the next few weeks what you will say are non-approachable offence dealings. That means we are going to be having body cameras on officers to capture incidences because things happen so fast and you can’t really say let me get my camera. But if you have your body camera on that is recording, then, you can capture all sorts of different things that you can use against offenders.”</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Oduyoye also lamented that chronic traffic violators do remove traffic signs to deliberately disobey road laws.</p> <p>“Those who willfully disobey traffic signs go in the middle of the night to remove those signs. When they are caught, they will say that there were no signs. They go and remove the signs to prove they aren’t aware of the signs. This happens all the time,” he said.</p> <p>The LASTMA boss further said a Sports Utility Vehicle driver, Sunday Okodo, who was caught in a viral video driving against traffic and tipping a policeman over a bridge along the International Airport Road, Lagos, has been taken to court and charged with two counts of attempted murder and traffic violation.</p> <p>Oduyoye disclosed that the police inspector identified as David Zapaina, who was tipped over the bridge, has been discharged from hospital.</p> <p>“He is alive and he has been discharged from the hospital but it is more like he needs to seek more local intervention to reset his bones,” he added.</p> <p>The LASTMA GM, therefore, warned road users to obey traffic laws and not attempt to flee when caught.</p>

Have we got so bad as a people, that we can’t have genuine, patriotic service again? Quite baffling.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a>“This leads me to a lie peddled about me from the pit of hell in the past fortnight. I had traveled to Umuahia, in Abia State, to deliver a paper at the Social Media Converge organized by the state government. At the Abuja airport, I had met former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and we greeted pleasantly, as we always do. As we spoke, the former Minister’s aide took our photograph with his phone, which was later posted online. <p>“The camera angle was a bit awkward. My clothe seemed too baggy than it was, and my hand appeared twisted in the seemingly oversized sleeves.</p> <p>“And what next? Some people subjected my arm and legs to photoshop, twisting them further, making me appear as a stroke patient. Now it has upgraded to rape and assassinations.</p> <p>“Behind it all is drug use. Criminals all use drugs, even kidnappers now ask for ransom in drugs and until we get to the root of the problem, these criminals will continue to flourish,” he said.</p>

Anyone who aides or gives order to rape another person shall receive a death or life sentence.”</p> <p>“The use of political thugs attracts four years imprisonment for perpetrators and the use of indecent or pornographic pictures for advert in public places shall attract three months imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.”</p> <p>“Kidnappers shall also receive death sentence.”</p> <p>Badaru commended the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Musa Aliyu, and the state council of Ulamas for their contribution to the passage of the bill.</p>

Subsequently, it was said that the demand had gone down to N40 million, until a report just Wednesday indicated that it had dropped drastically to N1 million.</p> <p>Jada expressed gratitude to the media for the publicity that the attack on his team and the driver’s kidnap got.</p> <p>“I want to thank the media particularly SWAN; I have received calls from within and outside the country; we are very grateful for the publicity,” he said.</p>

Service chiefs retired but recently the National Assembly confirmed them as ambassadors. The same service s chiefs who could not provide security.</p> <p>“Also let me bring to your attention that recently some clerics and governors have been justifying what bandits are doing. Some are saying they should be settled and accepted into the society.</p> <p>“My question is when you settle all insurgents, who is taking care of Nigerians who have refused to go into crime but are struggling .</p> <p>“COVID-19 has been here for a year but no one is talking about how entertainers, Nigerian youths who have chosen not to do violence or crime would survive.</p> <p>“If you Google how much an AK 47 cost, let’s say we all decide to purchase AK 47 and take youths into one forest and begin to kidnap innocent people suddenly the government who is busy can now shake your hands and defend why you should be settled by government because you have gone through a lot.</p> <p>“Suddenly the pastors and congregation will be praying for peace, security agencies will start negotiating ransom. We must help ourselves in Nigeria.”</p>

We feel the fears and the anxieties of the good people of Niger State. This is not uncommon. What happens here is not unique to you.</p> <p>“We also need to explore other avenues side by side with whatever the security institutions are doing if that means engaging in dialogue We may not have a choice. It was careless cattle rearers. Their cattle don’t have anything to eat so they set the bush on fire; and you know there’s harmattan, so they could not control the fire. That’s what happened. It’s not that we’re attacked.</p> <p>“Though we were attacked in December last year. They kidnapped four people. This one that just happened was an accident,” the Alawowo said in a telephone interview.</p> <p>The monarch told our correspondent that the community has been living peacefully with the herdsmen, saying there are laid down rules and regulations.</p> <p>“We have peacefully lived together because we hold meetings from time to time. I have warned them not to leave their area for other places. This one that happened, the owner of the cows was living somewhere and took his cattle to somewhere else to go and rear,” the monarch said, adding that the police have been informed.</p> <p>Oba Tijani maintained that he would not be able to confirm whether or not the owner of the cattle would take responsibility for the burnt property.</p> <p>He appealed to residents to remain calm, urging them not to nurse any fear.</p>

Camillus Raymond Umoh in Abuja on Tuesday.</p> <p>According to the statement, the country is falling apart due to serious rising insecurity clearly evident in widespread loss of lives and property triggered by the increasing number of bandits, Boko Haram, killer herdsmen and other criminal elements across the country.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The Bishops stressed that the insecurity had forced people to believe that those who have assumed the duty and authority to secure the nation are either unable or unwilling to take up the responsibilities of their office.</p> <p>The CBCN called on relevant authorities to quickly address the situation, adding that time is running out and the situation needs to improve!</p> <p>The statement reads in parts, “The clamour for self-defense is fast gaining ground. Many ethnic champions are loudly beating the drums of war, calling not only for greater autonomy but even for outright opting out of a nation in which they have lost all trust and sense of belonging. The calls for secession on an ethnic basis from many quarters should not be ignored or taken lightly.</p> <p>“Many have given up on the viability and even on the desirability of the Nigeria project as one united country. No wonder many non-state actors are filling the vacuum created by a palpable failure of government.</p> <p>“The Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari can no longer delay rising to its obligation to govern the nation; not according to ethnic and religious biases but along the lines of objective and positive principles of fairness, equity and, above all, justice.</p> <p>“It is not too much for Nigerians to demand from Mr President sincerity both in the public and private domain. There are no more excuses.</p> <p>“We, of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, with members from all parts of Nigeria, are very highly disturbed about the present state of instability in the land.</p> <p>“This must not be allowed to continue to fester and degenerate. We are raising this alarm because of our deep patriotic love for our nation, not for any sectional interests, be they political, ethnic or even religious.</p> <p>“Despite the persistence of crises around us; assassinations, Covid 19, kidnappings, murders, banditry, armed robberies, we sincerely affirm our faith in the viability and desirability of the Nigeria Project, as one prosperous nation under God.</p> <p>“But we are also convinced that building such a nation, especially in our present circumstances, comes at a cost. We are also convinced that the alternative of tearing ourselves apart, comes with a cost that is far higher than what it takes to keep ourselves together.</p> <p>“We must be ready to seek a common purpose with sincerity of mind. As individuals and as groups, we ought to be ready to make the necessary sacrifices that would enable us to manage our differences better and turn them into a positive rather than a negative force. Governments at different levels ought to lead the way”.</p>

It should have taken place in the bush instead of the town. We don’t want war but peace.”</p>

But, when he was at Owode Ketu and other places visited, some suspected herdsmen kidnapped one Mrs Ajoke Ishola and later dumped her lifeless body behind Obasanjo’s farm at Igbo-Ori.</p> <p>It was a similar scenario the day Abiodun sent a delegation to the area. The delegation had hardly returned to the state capital in Abeokuta when the people of Agbon Ojodu were visited by the suspected killers.</p> <p>Earlier before the recent killings, recall that there have been lamentations from traditional rulers in the area. The Obas had sent a petition to the state government, the police and the Army, lamenting that some soldiers led herdsmen into their villages, flogging anybody who tried to stop them from grazing on farmlands.</p> <p>But, due to the alleged failure of government to take actions, the cries of the monarchs and residents of the area attracted the attention of the popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, who visited the state to displace Fulani herdsmen in Igua.</p> <p>During Sunday Igboho’s visit, houses belonging to the Fulani and Kara market in Igua were set ablaze by some hoodlums, who allegedly took advantage of the development.</p> <p>Some analysts have opined that the recent incidents were reprisal attacks launched by some Fulani herdsmen to avenge the burning of their houses.</p> <p>In an attempt to put an end to the killings and other security challenges in the area, Gov Abiodun held a meeting with four Northern governors and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.</p> <p>Also, Abiodun visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday to present a report to him on the crises in Ogun, saying relative peace has returned to the troubled areas.</p> <p>To him, the killers in Ogun state are bandits who are cattle rustlers, noting that people could not differentiate between peaceful Fulani herdsmen and bandits.</p> <p>However, another set of people were kidnapped around 4am on Saturday along Ayetoro-Abeokuta road.</p> <p>According to the police, one of the kidnappers arrested was a Fulani man.</p> <p>Today, many residents of Yewa North have become refugees in Benin Republic.</p> <p>“When we are not sure of our safety in Ogun State. We have to relocate to nearby Benin Republic,” a resident of the area told Daily Post.</p> <p>It was gathered that five of the refugees have given birth in the camp allocated to them by the government of Benin Republic.</p> <p>Findings by our correspondent confirmed that many villages in Yewa North have been deserted over fear of another invasion by those Gov Abiodun called “cattle rustlers”.</p> <p>On Sunday, when the peace committee took food items to the area, it was learnt that there were no recipients.</p> <p>Commenting on the matter, the Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, said the residents were not on ground to receive the rice, noodles and other items from government representatives.</p> <p>Oba Akinyemi, explained that the people preferred being slaves in Benin Republic than coming back home to be killed.</p> <p>“It is a terrible situation; nobody is around. They have deserted the houses, the schools, everywhere. Palliatives are in Tata; we can’t go and pick them because we are still looking for who to give them to,” the Oba said.</p> <p>According to the traditional ruler, some residents said they would not return to Nigeria until there is maximum security.</p> <p>Government has deployed a taskforce of security agents to the Ogun West axis of the State to foil any further attack on villages.</p> <p>Ogun West shares mutiple entries with Benin Republic through Imeko Afon, Ipokia and Yewa North.</p> <p>Indigenes of the senatorial district have constantly alleged marginalisation, being the only zone that has not produced a governor since Ogun was created 45 years ago.</p>
