A student of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, identified as Pamela Ibrahim, has disclosed that some of the bandits who abducted them are foreigners.
Ibrahim said this while recounting her experience with the bandits, even as she mentioned that the bandits abducted them to get the government’s attention.
Speaking to newsmen in the state at the government house, Ibrahim said the bandits told them they would not stop threatening the peace of Kaduna State until the government settles them.
Ibrahim said, “Before they released us, the kidnappers told us that they did not have anything against the students.

“The bandits said they kidnapped us because they needed the government to settle things with them and that they also wanted to be educated like other Nigerians. They said they need work and houses too.
“They said if the government does not settle with them, they would continue to make sure that Kaduna State is unsafe. They said they meant it. Some of them are Nigerians, others are foreigners. They spoke mainly Fulani (language) and Hausa.”
The 27 abducted students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna were on Friday handed over to their families.

Unkonwn gunmen have reportedly attacked Odoro Ikpe Police Station, in Ini LGA of Akwa Ibom State, killing six officers on duty.
It was gathered that the assailants invaded the police station Saturday morning and gunned down six officers while others were injured.
When contacted, by newsmen correspondent, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Odiko S. Ogbeche confirmed the incident.
The PPRO, however, was unable to give details of the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police was already at the scene for an on the spot assessment.

Everyone from middle-class Indians to migrant workers are getting out of the country as fast as they can as the COVID-19 crisis escalated.
On Saturday India logged another over 400,000 new COVID-19 cases and a record death toll of 4,187 in a 24-hour period,
According to Daily Beast, private jets, often used primarily by Bollywood glitterati and business moguls who left weeks ago, are now being booked by the middle class who are spending their life savings to save their lives.
JetSetGo CEO Kanika Tekriwal told CNBC’s Street Signs Asia that her company has seen a 900 percent increase in bookings, but it is not her usual clientele.

“To say that only wealthy Indians are leaving India on private jets would be wrong,” Tekriwal said from her own safe haven in the Maldives.
“In the last 10 days, what we have really seen is anyone who can put together the resources and the means to pool in money for a private jet, or to pool in money just to get out of the country, getting out.”
The most popular destinations are the Maldives, which fetches around $20,000 for an eight-seat jet with a pilot, and Dubai, which runs a whopping $31,000 for a six-seater with a pilot to the United Arab Emirates.
Both countries are among the last to allow Indian passengers to enter as long as they test negative for COVID-19 before departure—which, with odds at 2-1 they have the virus based on spiking contagion rates, is not a guarantee they will get to leave.
But it is those without life savings to spend who are spreading the deadly virus to neighbouring countries. Thousands of migrant workers escaping the country have now turned neighbouring Nepal into the next hell.
 Some experts predict that the situation could be even worse than in India and the country’s prime minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, much like India’s Narendra Modi, has been widely criticised for mishandling the pandemic response.
On Saturday, India reported its highest ever single-day COVID-19 death toll, as cases continued to rise and states imposed stricter lockdowns.
India’s health ministry reported 4,187 fatalities over the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to just under 240,000.
Cases rose by 401,078, increasing the total since the start of the pandemic to 21.9 million.
Medical experts say the real numbers of COVID-19 cases and fatalities are likely to be far higher than official tallies.
Tamil Nadu, known for its automobile manufacturing including BMW, Daimler , Hyundai, Ford, Nissan and Renault, said it would move from a partial to a full lockdown on Monday, stopping public transport and shutting state-run alcohol retailers.
Neighbouring Karnataka state extended a total shutdown late on Friday. The state capital Bengaluru is a major tech hub, home to major offices of companies including Google, Amazon and Cisco.
India is yet to impose a national lockdown as it did during its first wave last year, but around half of all its states have imposed a total shutdown. The rest are under a partial shutdown.
Though it is the world’s biggest vaccine maker, India is struggling to produce and distribute enough doses to stem the wave of COVID-19.
Although the country has administered over 167 million vaccine doses, its rate of inoculation has fallen sharply in recent days and only around 2% of its 1.4 billion people have received the two doses needed to be fully immunised.
While cases in the country’s northern and western areas have borne the brunt of the pandemic, southern states including Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have seen infections surge.
The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India has brought the healthcare system to the brink of collapse, with patients dying due to lack of oxygen or access to hospital beds.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been criticised for his handling of the oxygen shortage, though the government says it is doing all it can.
Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin said in a letter to Modi late on Friday Tamil Nadu’s medical oxygen demand could double in the next two weeks.
“The availability of oxygen in Tamil Nadu is very very critical,” Stalin said, adding that 13 patients died in a hospital on the outskirts of Chennai due to the lack of oxygen.

Cardiac Arrest
A death that is associated with the heart could be attributed to several medical conditions, including sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), myocardial infarction, arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), and congestive heart failure (CHF). One common effect from all of these heart conditions is the failure of the heart to pump enough blood to the rest of the body, which can be fatal.
Respiratory Arrest
The lungs and the heart complement each other. As such, when one system fails, the other will most likely follow. One type of breathing that is indicative of impending death is called the Cheyne – Stokes respiration or periodic respiration. It is characterized by deep and fast breathing, followed with a gradual decrease before going for a temporary stop in breathing or apnea. The pattern repeats with each cycle lasting up to 2 minutes.

It is also possible for the lungs to fail because of some changes in the muscles or the nervous system, just like in the case of myasthenia gravis or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Moreover, there are cases of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in babies less than one-year-old. The exact cause is unknown, but it is believed to be associated with defects in the portion of the infant’s brain that is responsible for breathing and arousal from sleep.
Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome
SUNDS or sudden unexplained nocturnal death syndrome was first recognized in 1915 in the Philippines. It was originally called bangungut (“to arise and moan;” the word for “nightmare”) in the Tagalog language. In Hawaii, they call it Dream Disease.
The exact cause of SUNDS is unclear, but it is associated with acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, Brugada syndrome (a condition that causes disruption in the normal rhythm of the heart), and structural heart disease. Moreover, SUNDS is prevalent in young adult Southeast Asian men who are otherwise healthy.
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Have you heard of people dying while sleeping inside their car with their AC on? That’s more likely due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless and odorless gas that can be fatal if too much of it is breathed into the lungs. And unless you are using a CO detector, you can hardly notice its presence. It can be found in the fumes from running cars, gas ranges, furnaces, grills, stoves, water heater, fireplace, dryer and so on.
How does it kill? An increase in the levels of carbon monoxide can compromise the amount of oxygen that is flowing in your blood. When this happens, the blood that circulates in the body is carrying more of the toxic carbon monoxide, instead of oxygen. This ultimately leads to shock, or in the worst-case scenario, death.
What happens if you are awake? If there is an increased level of carbon monoxide inside your car or in your environment while you are awake, you may experience symptoms like dizziness, headache, or an upset stomach.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common of all the types of sleep apnea, and it is more likely the culprit why a person may die in their sleep. Apparently, OSA is a serious sleep disorder. It causes one’s breathing to stop and start repeatedly while sleeping.
This type of sleep apnea causes your throat muscles to intermittently relax and cause blockage in your airway during sleep. Hence, there’s the term “obstructive” in its name. Snoring is one noticeable sign of sleep apnea. It is estimated that about 22 million Americans struggle from sleep apnea, and 80% of these cases are undiagnosed.
How does OSA kill? When the airway is obstructed, it can suddenly compromise the level of oxygen that is running in the blood. If a person is already at risk for heart attack and stroke, then OSA can trigger a sudden cardiac event or brain attack that can cause one’s untimely demise while asleep.
It pays to know all of these things before it’s too late. People may say that once it is your time, you can’t do something about it. This statement is quite preposterous because doing preventive measures and knowing what to look out for can definitely help in staying away from impending and untimely death.
For instance, you can do something to address your snoring problem and there are treatments for sleep apnea that you can try. There are also medications, treatments, and surgeries that can address a respiratory or heart problem. And of course, one can stay at an affordable motel to sleep at instead of sleeping inside the car with the AC on.

Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Friday wept as she led prayers for Nigeria.
The wife of the RCCG General Overseer, who recently lost her son, Dare, wept while leading a prayer session at the May 2021 edition of the church’s Holy Ghost service.
While leading the prayer session during the service, she said Nigeria needed prayers, and that the country was going through a siege, and that guns won’t help.
With tears in her eyes, she urged Nigerians to pray to God to liberate the country, and for every other nation to get out of every form of siege that they are going through.

“Brethren, today’s prayer is going to be different because there is always a purpose for a season because the Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 that there is purpose for season. The season that we are in Nigeria now calls for a lot of prayers.
“Our nation, Nigeria, is going through a siege and it is so much, so hard and we want God to liberate us even as we connect to other nations and believe that our prayers for Nigeria, God Himself will allow it to reach other nations and other nations will get out of every form of siege that they are going through.
“These prayers, if you need to weep, you better weep because weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. This is the time we need to cry. It is becoming overwhelming, it is too much, people are dying every day from hunger, people are dying every day from all kinds of terrorism, and people are dying from kidnapping,” she said, while calling on God to have mercy on Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Pastor Adeboye, fondly referred to Daddy GO, during the Holy Ghost service, said a third wave of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will not happen in Nigeria.
Adeboye said it was for the prayers of Christians that the COVID-19 did not take a detrimental dimension, and that Christians have to pray also for the third wave of COVID-19 not to happen in Nigeria.
He explained that the ability to pray is a gift that summons the Almighty to come and help, and that it takes the special grace of God to remember to pray.
“Don’t listen to any person who says it is by their own wisdom that Coronavirus is now subdued in Nigeria. It is because you prayed. You asked God for mercy, and God heard, and in the mighty name of Jesus, there will be no third wave.
“But, I want to encourage you that you need to pray again. We have problems of many kinds in Nigeria so very soon, you might be summoned to pray again. We need to pray against all the problems we are facing, and God will answer when we pray,” Pastor Adeboye said.

Mr Ahmed Umar, Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged passengers to always caution reckless drivers to avoid accidents and fatalities.
Umar gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota, Ogun, while commiserating with accident victims’ families.
According to Umar, the accident which occurred on Thursday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed 11 lives and injured three.
The accident involved a commercial bus with no number, a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number LND 13 GS and a Toyota Camry marked GGE 369 GJ.

Umar said that the incident could have been averted if the commercial bus driver obeyed simple traffic regulations of not overtaking wrongly, which resulted in the death of innocent people.
The sector commander added that the bus was overspeeding and rammed into a stationary car that had fault.
“The fatal accident could have been prevented if passengers cautioned the driver against wrongful overtaking.
“I enjoin passengers to always caution reckless drivers to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property,” he said.
Umar warned drivers against excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking to prevent mishaps on the highway.
The sector commander prayed God to grant the families of the departed the fortitude to bear the loss.
The sector commander said families of the accident victims should go to the nearest FRSC office along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to get further details of the accident.
