But I can say we have the team to do that here in France. The NFF has done well by ensuring good preparation for the team, with the friendlies that we played.<br /> <br /> “A lot is hanging on the first match against Norway. If we are able to get a good result, then we will take it from there.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, head coach of the team Thomas Dennerby has tasked his girls to take it one match at a time and develop a positive mindset about the finals.<br /> <br /> “A positive mindset is key to what we are here for. It is not right for everybody to be promoted.<br /> <br /> “We still have challenges. Officers are still taking bribes on passport issuance. If an officer collects money to get a job for someone, we will dismiss the officer.<br /> <br /> “President Muhammadu Buhari has always insisted that we must do our work very well and shun corruption. We must respect human rights. Do not use the uniforms and guns given to you by the government to molest anybody.<br /> <br /> “The elevation of all of you to the rank of Comptroller of Immigration Service is a mark of your dedication and loyalty to the service. It equally comes with a lot of responsibility. Therefore, I want to task you to redouble your efforts to ensure that the statutory responsibilities of the service are achieved and geared towards securing Nigeria against the current myriad of security challenges. We are putting everything in place to ensure that the service makes a very positive impact on the security matrix of the country as well as providing enabling environment for trade and tourism”.<br /> <br /> On the ongoing technology building, Babandede said: “Julius Berger has done well for the technology building. When completed next year June, we shall effectively monitor the mobility of our borders. Our responsibility is to ensure that Nigeria is safer.”<br /> <br /> 3,413 senior officers of the service between the ranks of Comptroller and Senior Inspector of Immigration were promoted.

Justice Okon Abang, directing the Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to Okorocha.<br /> <br /> He said the commission was also aware of and had been served with the order of a High Court of Imo State, presided over by Hon. Justice Njemanze, directing the Commission not to issue a Certificate of Return to any of the candidates who contested the Imo West Senatorial District election.<br /> <br /> “The Order from the High Court of Imo State was issued on 23rd May 2019 and the suit has been further adjourned to 26th June 2019.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> “The Commission is aware that the judgement delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja is the latest in time and determined the rights of the parties in relation to the subject matter of the Certificate of Return, in respect of the Imo West Senatorial Election,” he said.<br /> <br /> According to him, INEC was currently undertaking State level reviews of the 2019 general elections and that all the National Commissioners were either in or heading to their States of supervision to coordinate activities relating to the said review.<br /> <br /> “In view of the import and directives of the said judgement, the Commission will meet as soon as practicable to do the needful. As a law-abiding institution, the Commission will continue to obey judgement of all courts of competent jurisdiction,” he stated.<br /> <br /> Okoye, however, noted that the Commission’s overriding consideration was the safety of its ad-hoc staff, electoral officers and collation/returning officers and was worried that if electoral impunity was allowed to flourish, any individual could harass, intimidate and put the Commission’s officers under duress, procure a favourable declaration and be rewarded with a Certificate of Return.

No: GM/HA/RES/VOL. 1/17.<br /> <br /> That resolution was alleged to have been signed by Shehu Atiku, Clerk of the Gombe State House of Assembly, with the intent that it be acted upon as a genuine document by Access Bank, leading to a N5bn-facility being obtained from the bank by the Goje administration “for infrastructural projects”.<br /> <br /> EFCC said its investigations revealed that the purported resolution authorising the loan was forged, pointing out that the approval did not pass through the right processes.<br /> <br /> During the trial, one of the accused, Mr Sabo Tumu, died, forcing the court to strike his name out of the case.<br /> <br /> The EFCC through its counsel, Wahab Shittu, closed its case against the defendants on May 31, 2018 after calling 24 witnesses and tendering several documents to prove its case.<br /> <br /> But counsel for Goje, Chris Uche (SAN), on September 14, 2018 filed a “no-case” submission while the prosecution counsel urged the court to dismiss same.<br /> <br /> The court had earlier retained two charges preferred against the Senator after dismissing 19 others.<br /> <br /> But the EFCC rejected the judgement delivered by Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Jos Federal High Court II, dismissing the 19 charges against Goje and approached the Court of Appeal in Jos to overrule the judge.<br /> <br /> The appellate court has yet to fix a date for the hearing of the appeal.<br /> <br /> When the case came up for an emergency hearing before Justice Quadri, Shittu, said the EFCC was withdrawing from the case and handing it over to the office of the AGF for continuation.<br /> <br /> Lawyer for the ex-governor, Paul Erokoro (SAN), did not object to EFCC’s withdrawal and handing over of the case to the AGF’s office.

Communications Plc, operator of African Independent Television and RayPower 100.5 FM to maintain status quo.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Ruling on an ex parte application by Daar Communications Plc, Justice Inyang Ekwo directed all the parties to maintain status quo as of May 30, 2019, pending the determination of the plaintiff’s application for an interlocutory injunction against the NBC and the two other defendants – the Federal Ministry of Culture and Information and the Attorney-General of the Federation.<br /> <br /> The applicant had filed the ex parte motion on May 30 informing the court that “credible information just reaching” it “has it that the defendants have concluded plans to, in the next few days, invade and shut down the premises of the plaintiff and/or part thereof.”<br /> <br /> But on Thursday, the NBC, through its Director-General, Dr Modibbo Kawu, announced its decision to suspend the company’s operating licences indefinitely.<br /> <br /> Kawu stated that the infractions committed by the media houses owned by Daar Communications included their inability to pay their licence renewal fees and the airing of a presidential election documentary while the matter was still before a tribunal, among others.<br /> <br /> At the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, Mr Benson Igbanor of Chief Mike Ozekhome’s law firm moved the Daar Communication’s ex parte application seeking to avert the suspension of its licences by the NBC.<br /> <br /> In his ruling delivered shortly after listening to Igbanor, Justice Ekwo granted the order for parties to the suit to maintain status quo, but refused to grant prayers 1 and 2 contained in the applicant’s application.<br /> <br /> The judge said such prayers could not be granted in the absence of the defendants.<br /> <br /> One of the prayers rejected by the court, sought “an ex parte order of interim injunction” restraining defendants “from blocking, jamming, stopping, removing from air and/or interfering with the airwaves of the plaintiff/applicant in any way and manner howsoever, in its broadcast and airing of news, views, documentaries, or any other legitimate broadcast material that is usually associated with television, radio or social media broadcast pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed along with this application.<br /> <br /> The other prayer rejected by the court sought a similar order to restrain the defendants “from invading the premises of the plaintiff/applicant, or closing down the said premises, its operations or broadcast services, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed along with this application.”<br /> <br /> Justice Ekwo said the two prayers would not be granted without hearing the defendants.<br /> <br /> He, instead, ordered parties to maintain status quo and directed the defendants to appear in court on June 13 to show cause why the prayers rejected on Friday and as contained in a motion on notice filed by the plaintiff, should not be granted.<br /> <br /> A copy of the enrolled order made by the judge on Friday read in part, “It is hereby ordered as follows:<br /> <br /> “That prayers 1 and 2 on the motion ex parte cannot be granted without hearing the other parties.<br /> <br /> “An order is hereby made that parties shall maintain status quo ante bellum as at May 30, 2019 pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in this case.”<br /> <br /> He added, “Defendants are hereby ordered to show cause on the next date of hearing why the prayers on the motion on notice of the plaintiff/applicant ought not to be granted.<br /> <br /> “Case adjourned till June 13, 2019 for defendants to appear in court and show cause as ordered.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Federal Government had earlier on Friday come under more attacks for suspending the licences of the African Independent Television and RayPower FM operated by DAAR Communications Limited, owned by the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Raymond Dokpesi.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>Suspension repressive, say PDP governors</b><br /> <br /> But the Peoples Democratic Party governors, in their reaction to the suspension, described it as repressive and asked the Federal Government to reverse the suspension of the licences.<br /> <br /> The reaction of the governors was contained in a communiqué read by the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr Seriake Dickson, in the early hours of Friday after its meeting at the Bayelsa State Government Lodge in Abuja on Thursday night.<br /> <br /> Dickson said, “The forum noted the shocking intolerance and act of repression against the media by the Federal Government. As you are aware, DAAR Communications, we understand, has been closed down. And our position is that due process must be followed.<br /> <br /> “If there is any allegation of infraction, then due processes of the law should take place because when you shut down news outlet, when you harass and intimidate journalists, then you are shutting down Nigerians from speaking their minds. And in democracy, freedom of expression is a cardinal component.<br /> <br /> “So we condemn what has taken place and we urge the Federal Government and its agency to forthwith, do what is right; that is the reopening of the company and follow the due process of the law.”

Abdulmumin Jibrin, had on Wednesday threatened to sue the leaders of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).<br /> <br /> According to Jibrin, the decision to sue CUPP leadership followed criminal allegations against Gbajabiamila which are untrue.<br /> <br /> Jibrin had insisted that Gbajabiamila had never been convicted nor served any court document hence he would participate in the Speakership election on June 11 in spite the campaign of calumny.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> But the lawyers under the auspices of Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), have said in a statement Friday that Gbajabiamila would have to, first of all, clear himself of the allegation before seeking to contest for the Speaker position.<br /> <br /> The statement quoted Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, leader of the group, as welcoming the lawmaker’s threat of going to court, noting that Nigerians would have the opportunity of knowing whether the allegation against him was true or false.<br /> <br /> “We make bold to state that it is crystal clear that Femi Gbajabiamila lacks the moral mettle and sincerity to lead the House of Representatives as its Speaker.<br /> <br /> “This is because the context of the press conference held on his behalf failed to address the substantive issue against him, and rather than express remorse, countered with baseless threats against the Nigerian people.<br /> <br /> “COPA states categorically that it is in possession of all documents and evidences that establishes a clear case of fraudulent dishonesty and abuse of trust against Femi Gbajabiamila.<br /> <br /> “The facts against Gbajiamila are, in fact, readily available to the public as they were established in a Court of Record with same being accessible to the public, and are attached herein for the avoidance of doubt.<br /> <br /> “We have established correspondence with the Supreme Court of Georgia and we have documents of Disciplinary Case No. S06Y0829 and the family of the victim of Gbajiamila’s fraud, Hadyatou Barry and also Vesta with P. The state government has demanded the response of His Highness within 24 hours. The council is studying the content,” he said.<br /> <br /> The News Agency of Nigeria had on Tuesday reported that the commission recommended the suspension of the emir.<br /> <br /> The commission, according to the report, said during its investigation, it found out that N3.4bn was misappropriated by the Kano Emirate between 2014 and 2017 under Sanusi.<br /> <br /> The investigation was in respect of a petition of financial misappropriation levelled against Kano Emirate Council under the present emir.<br /> <br /> The panel report had stated, “It is also the opinion of this commission based on the available evidence that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II continued to undermine the investigation through various means which included giving instruction to all officers invited for clarification to shun the commission’s invitation.<br /> <br /> “The act is seriously affecting the process of our statutory responsibility and offends the provisions of Section 25 of the Commission’s enabling Law 2008 (as amended),” the report said.<br /> <br /> It, therefore, recommended that the “principal suspect in the person of Muhammadu Sanusi II and all other suspects connected with the case be suspended pending the final outcome of the investigations.”<br /> <br /> It recommended that appropriate authority should be set up to oversee the affairs of the emirate council in line with established statutes and policies pending the final outcome of the commission’s investigations.

My own take is that if the Executive sees the National Assembly’s work on the budget as interference despite the provisions of the constitution, then there will continue to be problems between both arms of government.<br /> <br /> “If the Presidency refuses to have engagements and consultations with the leadership of the National Assembly before the President submits the budget to the legislature, then there will continue to be frictions.<br /> <br /> “If the Executive sees the failure of a few of its appointees to secure confirmation by the Senate as a disagreement, then the relationship will not improve.<br /> <br /> “If the Executive encourages its appointees who fail to secure Senate confirmation to remain in office, then there will continue to be disagreement.<br /> <br /> “If the Executive believes the Legislature is a rubber stamp without the right to question its actions, then it will be a subversion of the Principles of separation of powers and checks and balances.<br /> <br /> “My advice is that both arms of government have a role to play in our quest for good governance and their leadership should work for cooperation and fruitful engagement.<br /> <br /> Saraki, who described his last day in office as victory for democracy, commended his colleagues for their show of support and solidarity during his travails and trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.<br /> <br /> He said, “That I am here today, that you are here today, is a victory for democracy. They were preparing to take him to hospital.<br /> <br /> “But from what I gathered, the man was working inside a water tank and stayed there for some hours without coming out. Because of this, those around went near the tank and discovered that there was no movement though the artisan was there.<br /> <br /> “The people had to call the police, who evacuated the man and took him to hospital. Right now, nobody can tell precisely what led to the man’s death except an autopsy is conducted.”<br /> <br /> The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said the command received information of the sudden and unnatural death of a Ghanaian artisan, popularly called Pabobo, on June 1 around 4.45pm.<br /> <br /> According to him, the man was said to have become unconscious inside the water tank in the Osborne Foreshore area of Ikoyi.<br /> <br /> Elkana explained that Pabobo was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he later died.<br /> <br /> He said police detectives visited the scene and took photographs of the area, adding that the corpse had been deposited in the Lagos Island General Hospital morgue for autopsy.<br /> <br /> The PPRO stated that the police had begun investigation into the incident with a view to unravelling the circumstance leading to the artisan’s death.<br /> <br /> Elkana said, “We have information on the sudden and unnatural death of one Pabobo, 50, a Ghanaian artisan, on June 1, 2019, around 4.45pm. His other names are unknown. He allegedly became unconscious inside a water tank at No. 8B Ondo Street, Osborne Foreshore, Ikoyi.<br /> <br /> “The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he later died. It was also gathered that some of the affected permanent secretaries had been given the retirement letters since the beginning of the week.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The action of the governor did not go down well with some of the affected people as some of them who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said they would challenge the action in court.<br /> <br /> One of them alleged that the governor did not take the action against them in good faith, alleging that he (the governor) showed them the way out of service untimely in order to pave way for his ‘anointed’ candidate to succeed the current Head of Service, Mr Toyin Akinkuotu, who was said to be going on retirement in August 2019.<br /> <br /> He said, “He (the governor) retired nine of us (permanent secretaries) because the governor wants an Owo indigene to become the next state Head of Service and the person is junior to some of us, the affected permanent secretaries. That is unfair.”<br /> <br /> However, a senior civil servant in the governor’s office who craved anonymity, confirmed the development to our correspondent. He said the governor did it in order to appoint a trusted person in the office of the Head of Service.<br /> <br /> “What happened is not a new thing in government service. When Mimiko was there, he appointed an Ondo man to be the head of service. So if Akeredolu appoints his kinsman as the head of service, heaven will not fall; he has the exclusive power to do it. He can appoint anyone that pleases him,” he stated.<br /> <br /> When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Yemi Olowolabi, said the affected persons were not sacked but asked to retire voluntarily after serving in the office for more than eight years.<br /> <br /> Olowolabi said, “There is an extant circular to that effect, that any permanent secretary who has served for more than eight years could be retired either reaching retirement age or not and the least of the affected permanent secretaries had spent nine years in the office. So the governor did not give the order to favour anybody.<br /> <br /> “The affected permanent secretaries were not sacked but they were called for a meeting where they were told to retire voluntarily.”
