2023: EFCC denies advising INEC not to sell forms to some aspirants

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied reports that its Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC not to sell nomination forms to any aspirant who has a file with the agency, against the 2023 general election.
The Commission in a statement by its Head, Media & Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren on Saturday stated that the report was false and urged Nigerians to disregard it.
Uwujaren maintained that Bawa has neither met with INEC officials nor made any pronouncement relating to elections since he was appointed.
The agency pointed out that in Bawa’s two public outings, he spoke about issues concerning his vision for the EFCC and the outlook for the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

It further stated that qualification for elective political offices in Nigeria are clearly stated in the 1999 Constitution and relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
”It is not the place of the EFCC chairman to determine who runs for an office or otherwise,” it added.

Hollywood star, Nicholas Cage, has tied the knot for the fifth time. After proposing to Riko Shibata over FaceTime, the actor married his fifth wife in Las Vegas last month. 
According to E! News, the National Treasure star wed Riko Shibata in Las Vegas on February 16, 2021. 
Confirming the news, Cage said, “It’s true, and we are very happy.”
Nicolas, 56, and Riko, 26, tied the knot in Sin City’s Wynn Hotel on a date chosen to honour his late father’s birthday. While the groom wore a Tom Ford tux, his bride wore a handmade Japanese bridal kimono.

A representative for the actor told E! News, “They exchanged traditional Catholic and Shinto vows with poetry from Walt Whitman and Haiku sprinkled in.” 
This marks the star’s fifth marriage, taking place close to two years after he annulled his four-day marriage to Erika Koike in March 2019. 
Before his split from Erika, Nicolas and Alice Kim were married for 10 years but separated in 2016. They share 15-year-old son Kal-El Coppola. E! News reported thatboth Alice and Kal were present for Nicolas’ nuptials. 
He and Lisa Marie Presley were infamously married for just over 100 days in 2002, and in 2001 his six-year marriage to Patricia Arquette came to an end.
So what’s there to know about Nicolas and Riko’s love story? Well, let’s just say distance made their hearts grow fonder.
Back in August, Nicolas announced he got engaged to Riko but said the coronavirus pandemic prevented him from proposing in person. 
As he described on brother Marc Coppola’s radio show, “She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven’t seen her for six months. We’re really happy together and we’re really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, ‘Look, I wanna marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime.”
The actor said he popped the question with a black diamond ring and mailed it to Japan. 
“Her favourite colour is black so she wanted the black gold, and the black diamond,” he explained, noting, “I customized and personalized it and I actually sent it to her FedEx.”
At the time, Nicolas was hopeful they’d exchange vows in a “really beautiful Shinto wedding” in Japan but plans obviously changed for the newly minted husband and wife.

Manchester United want Eric Bailly to prove his fitness, before giving him a new contract, ESPN reports.
The 26-year-old has made only 14 appearances for the club during the 2020/2021 campaign and has struggled to be fit for selection.
Bailly played the entire 90 minutes of their 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, but has only featured eight times in the Premier League this term.
His current deal with the club expires in the middle of 2022.

However, United want Bailly to prove that his injury issues are firmly behind him before handing him a fresh deal.
Solskjaer wants to bring a left-footed centre-back in this summer, but it remains to be seen how much he has to spend on new players in the upcoming market due to the financial impact of COVID-19.
Bailly has made 99 appearances for United since arriving from Villarreal in July 2016.

The Pan Niger Delta Forum has called on the attackers of police personnel and facilities in the country to stop their criminal activities.
PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary Ken Robinson gave the advice in a statement he issued on Friday in Warri, Delta.
Robinson urged the alleged perpetrators to seek lawful and acceptable ways to vent whatever grievances they might have against the police.
He noted that there could be some bad eggs in the police force and called on the authorities to redouble their efforts to sanitise the organisation.

“PANDEF strongly condemned the reported attacks on police stations in parts of the country.
‘“The said attacks on police stations and personnel for whatever reasons are barbaric and should not be condoned in a civilised society.
“We, therefore, urged the police authorities to weed out unpatriotic officers and restore the dwindling primacy of the force within the internal security architecture of the country,” he added.
Robinson advised the security personnel to be professional in their conduct.

The Zamfara State Government has confirmed the arrest of an Army officer and his girlfriend for aiding banditry in the state.
The officer is accused of supplying arms, military uniforms, and other items to the bandits.
Authorities in the state say the arrest further confirms the position of the state Governor Bello Matawalle, that until the security structure in the state is reviewed, banditry and kidnapping will continue to strive.
The government is worried that some security operatives deployed to protect the lives and properties of residents are now aiding banditry which is worsening the situation.

“Another issue of topical importance is the recent arrest by the Military of an Army officer and his girlfriend who are engaged in assisting bandits with Military uniforms and ammunition in active connivance with other saboteurs.
“While the state government awaits the action the military will take on this matter and make an official statement, the development has further proved the position of Governor Bello Mohammed that until bad eggs and saboteurs among those fighting banditry are cleared, we may not record the desired success in the fight.
“Let me use this medium to salute the courage and patriotism of the individuals who came forward with information that led to the arrest of these traitors,” a government communique partly read.

The Christian Association of Nigeria in Kwara State has insisted that it will not allow its pupils to wear hijab, despite the Kwara State Government’s directive that Muslim female pupils in Christian mission schools should wear hijab.
The state government, last week, said it had approved wearing of hijab by Muslim female pupils in Christian mission grant-aided schools in the state.
It also said the 10 Christian mission schools closed down in the wake of the hijab crisis would be reopened on Monday, March 8.
However, the state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria said it would not agree to the use of hijab in schools established by Christian missions, alleging that they were surprised that the government was trying to make a decision on a matter that was still before the Supreme Court.

CAN said, “The body condemns the use of hijab in Christian missions grant-aided schools as this will cause discrimination in schools and allow terrorists to easily identify our children and wards.”
Two missions, Evangelical Church Winning All and the Kwara Baptist Conference, said they would not allow the wearing of hijab in their respective schools when the schools reopen on Monday.
The leadership of ECWA said it would not welcome the directive in all its schools in the state.
The Chairman, ECWA Ilorin District Church Council, Rev John Owoeye, who spoke at a press conference in Ilorin on Friday, said ECWA schools were established by Christian missionaries for purposes of reaching communities with the love of Christ and to meet educational needs of the indigenes irrespective of religious affiliations, among other reasons.
The ECWA church leaders, who demanded return of ECWA schools to them, said since 1974 when there was agreement on collaboration between the state government and the proprietor for the school to be grant-aided schools, “the policy has never been total takeover of our schools by the government.”
Owoeye, who said Christians are bona fide citizens of the state, added, “We have equal rights under the provisional constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He argued that the government was aware that Christian Religious Knowledge teachers were not posted to Muslim grant-aided schools and that the gathering of Fellowship of Christian Students was not allowed in Muslim grant-aided schools.
“Similarly, we want the government to be informed that her decision and plan to provide hijab and enforce its use in our Christian mission grant-aided schools will not be tolerated as it is an infringement on our freedom of religion as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria,” he said.
Also, the President of Kwara Baptist Conference, Rev Victor Dada, in a separate press conference, said the mission would not allow the use of hijab in its 38 schools across the state, adding that the government was wrongly advised in taking the decision.
Dada argued that the state government took a wrong decision by its blanket approval of wearing of hijab for female pupils in mission schools.
“The state government was wrongly advised to take that decision. The state even acted in contempt of court as the case is still pending before the Supreme Court.
“We want to warn the government that the step it wants to take by approving the use of hijab for all public schools and grant-aided schools in the state will lead to an avalanche of reactions, the end of which no one can predict.
“With this move, the state government is saying the Muslims’ purported rights are superior to those of the Christians.
“What we are saying is that no one, whether the Kwara State Government or even the Federal Government, can force hijab on our children or in our schools. We shall not hesitate to use all legitimate means to protect our heritage. We will defend our faith and protect our property.”
Meanwhile, Muslim stakeholders in the state have urged the state government to stand by the rule of law in taking a final decision on the hijab issue.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Is-haq AbdulKarim; and Secretary, Professor Ibrahim Abikan, the Muslim Stakeholders said the state branch of CAN, which engaged the state government in a legal battle over the issue of ownership of the grant-aided schools since 2013 lost its two cases in Ilorin High Court in 2016 and the Court of Appeal in 2019.
In a related development, Chairman, Kwara State branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Olu Adewara, said the union was not part of the hijab crisis currently going on in the state.
The NUT Chairman, Adewara, told newsmen, “The hijab matter is basically an issue between the government, the Muslim parents and the owners of these schools, regardless that such schools are grant-aided by the government. The NUT is not involved because this is not a matter bordering on teachers’ rights.”

Nollywood actress Cossy Orjiakor’s former fiancé, Abel Jurgen has covered up a tattoo of her name on his body.
Recall that the former lovebirds called off their engagement in 2020 after an intense social media battle.
In a post shared via his Instagram page on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the actor and model stated that he decided to cover the tattoo after months of their breakup.
“After covering up some #tattoos on my body. And after months of not chatting not talking to my #ex she decided to get someone to hack my account though she couldn’t get my Instagram,Facebook and yahoo mail accounts just my gmail account and I lost almost all my contacts, though it’s cool I still got 2 more gmails accounts… #f*ck #f*ckmyex #ilovebeingfree,” he wrote.

Both Orjiakor and Jurgen accused themselves of being violent in the relationship.
It was Abel who first alleged that the busty actress always attacked him at the slightest provocation especially when she is drunk.

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has named Chelsea star, Mason Mount, as the player who made the ‘difference’ during his side’s 1-0 defeat against the Blues on Thursday at Anfield.
Klopp explained that Liverpool’s clash against Chelsea was a tight game, but Mount’s individual quality gave Thomas Tuchel’s side all three points against the Reds.
Mount scored the only goal of the match in the first half of the encounter as Liverpool suffered their fifth consecutive defeat at home this season.
“The individual quality of Mason Mount at that moment made the difference. It was a tight game, intense game,” Klopp told Sky Sports after the defeat to Chelsea.

“Both teams invested a lot. That is it pretty much.”
He added, “They had the goal they scored, which was offside. The second half, another counter-attack, we had more situations around, the great one with Sadio Mane and other situations where we did not score.”
Klopp will now hope Liverpool returns to winning ways when they face Fulham on Sunday in their next game.

The former senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is currently not with Nigerians but in transition.
In a video he posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday evening, the former senator ascribed the present security challenges to absence of Buhari.
“If the president is with us, we cannot be suffering perilous time that we are suffering now, we cannot be in the situation we are in this country”, he said.
Melaye said that the insecurity ravaging the entire country, ranging from banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, signified that the president “is not with us”.

“It is so sad that the president is not available, he is not with us and he is yet to join our ancestors.
“The president is in transition and anybody in transition cannot do anything. And that is why there is no coordination in governance”, Dino alleged.

“That is why everyone is doing what he or she likes, that is why nobody is in charge of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is why we are in the state of total confusion, darkness everywhere”.

A number of soldiers are feared dead after an attack on a military base in Katsina State.
Bandits stormed an outpost in Marina, Safana Local Government Area on Thursday.
The troops, according to reports, were returning from an operation when they moved into an ambush.
The bandits caught the soldiers unaware; they hid near the base and opened fire from different directions.

Halilu Sububu, a bandit leader, listed Katsina as one of the states gangs terrorize. Others are Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna and Sokoto.
Sububu linked attacks to a breach of agreement and urged President Muhammadu Buhari to personally visit them for a chat.
“It (agreement) has been breached. An agreement was reached but you left that person in a forest with a gun and nothing to substitute.
“All the promises made to us, none of it was fulfilled. The President should personally come and preside over the talks.
“When was campaigning, he traveled all over, why would he not do it now? He does not take these peace talks seriously, and everyday people are being killed”, Sububu said.

About 700 women from the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Ndume Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Thursday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The defected women were led into the ruling PDP in the state by former Umuahia East constituency APC Woman Leader, Lady Charity Ekeleme.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees at Ohokobe Mbaocha Square, venue of the declaration ceremony, Lady Ekeleme said that APC has derailed in the service of humanity and the nation.
Ekeleme said that the progressive party has failed to address teething challenges bedeviling the country and lamented the current insecurity in the land and the nation’s economic downturn, occasioned by the incompetence of the APC government at all levels in Nigeria.

The Leader of APC defectors further stated that they were propelled to join the ruling PDP because of the excellent achievements of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Theodore Orji and the Speaker, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, which she said, were second to none.
Ekeleme said that with their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, APC and APGA are buried and further disclosed that many hundreds of APC women will soon jump ship and pitch their tents with the ruling party in Abia state.
Welcoming the defected APC and APGA women, the PDP Chairman Ndume Ward, Mr. Chidozie Okpechi lauded them for their bold step in joining the party, assuring them that they will be carried along in the running affairs of the party.
The PDP Chairman warned them against anti-party activity and urged them to give their maximum support to the party and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration to continue his people’s oriented works.
On his part, a prominent chieftain of the PDP from Ndume Umuahia Ibeku, Sir Innocent Nwachukwu felicitated with the decampees for their courage to align with PDP, which according to him, has exhibited exemplary leadership.
Nwachukwu said, “It is with great elation that I have received the news of your decision to join our great party, PDP. Your decisions are in the right direction owing to what Ndume people have benefited from the government and what they stand to benefit being the ward housing Abia new government house”.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State for alleged money laundering.
PDP alleged that Bello was using some government officials and private businesses to launder money.
The opposition party was reacting to the Anti-Corruption Network’s allegation that Bello laundered over N3.7billion through some private individuals.
In a series of tweets, the former ruling party said: “@OfficialPDPNig charges the @officialEFCC to immediately commence investigation on Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, over revelations of billions of naira money laundering by an anti-graft body, the Anti-Corruption Network.

“The @OfficialAPCNg poster boy should answer to revelations by the Anti-Corruption Network that he laundered over N3.7 billion through one Abdulsalami Hudu; in addition to billions of naira allegedly laundered through other individuals including certain, Umar Comfort, Jimoh Aminu, Philip Salau, Bello Ibrahim among others.”
The former ruling party also charged the Kogi governor to respond to the allegation of “siphoning billions of naira through award of contracts, without due process, to Southbridge Integrated Services Limited to the tune of N624 million, in addition to five other companies which allegedly got between N22 million and N129 million respectively.”

President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has insisted that drug barons are funding terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
Lawan disclosed this when Buba Marwa, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, paid him a visit on Thursday at his office in Abuja.
He explained that the proceeds of the illegal drug trade were being used to buy arms and ammunition for terrorist groups like Boko Haram, as well as bandits and kidnappers.
Lawan said, “I believe that this agency needs restructuring now that you’ve taken over.

“My personal opinion is that NDLEA should be in the league of EFCC, ICPC, and therefore, the kind of support that those two agencies I mentioned receive, you should receive something like that.
“So, the National Assembly will definitely work with you and will ensure that we do our best to give you the kind of support that’ll enable you properly to discharge your mandate.
“Drug peddlers pass their drugs – cannabis, heroin, and possibly even cocaine through Nigeria.
“We believe that this has to stop because the proceeds of such activities fund terrorism, they fund banditry, you wonder how the bandits have RPGs and these massive arms that they’ve.
“Definitely, these are some acquisitions provided by some barons, not the bandits themselves.”

The National Assembly, Thursday, noted that Nigeria is still lagging behind in the areas of digital sophistication and security.
It noted that these areas are critical to the government’s digital economy development agenda.
The Senate and House of Reps Committees made this observation when they visited a federal government agency, Galaxy Backbone on Thursday.
The lawmakers were at the agency in exercise of Legislative Oversight, a responsibility of the National Assembly which includes to carry out checks on agencies of the federal government on general institutional framework and specific matters.

The Committees promised to help the agency develop the economy through the digital space.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni, during his speech, noted that the world had moved into the blazing digital ecosystem which accelerates at the speed of light accompanied by a high risk of cybercrime.
The National Assembly Committees pointed out that the gains of digital technology were being dampened by rapid evolution of the cybersecurity threat landscape with a global dramatic rise in cybercrime.
“Nigeria is still lagging behind in digital sophistication, digital security and knowhow which are critical to the development agenda,” they said.
Members of the NASS Committees, however, called for appropriate modalities to be put in place to secure cyberspace and reap from all its numerous benefits.
“As the agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria responsible for internet service provision and protection for MDAs, Galaxy Backbone has before it, the big task of ensuring that Nigeria is up to date with the rest of the world in the cyber technology domain,” Oseni said.
“AS partners, we are leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of accelerated economic development through the digital space
“Accordingly, we assure you all of our support. We implore all of you to have your hands on deck to promote this course.
“Having gone round the building my colleagues, there is more to be done here for Galaxy Backbone to work effectively from what we’ve seen today. I think working together with members of the National Assembly, the MD will bring out a good plan for Galaxy Backbone to achieve its goals. In every organisation legislation is power.
“It is the key that drives the effectiveness of every organisation. When there’s policy…effective police put in place. And I believe everyone will do their best.
“And as such, I call that remaining parts of this data centre be completed and well equipped. And data recovery centres have to be built in all geopolitical zones of the federation.
“We’ll put heads together to see how we can make Galaxy Backbone the best not just in Nigeria but in Africa,” the Committees said.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, will receive shots of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccines on Saturday.
Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, disclosed this at a State House briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
According to him, the exercise will boost the confidence of Nigerians to receive the about four million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine shipped into the country this week.
Shuaib said, “The next step in the vaccination programme given that we’ve now received the vaccines is a launch that will be taking place at the National Hospital tomorrow (Friday). The time scheduled for that launch is 10am. The launch will be conducted by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

“The plan is to vaccinate the frontline health workers that work in the treatment centre of the National Hospital. Those will be the first people just like we’ve communicated that frontline health workers will be the first people to take the vaccine.
“After that, the plan is to vaccinate Mr President, Mr Vice-President and strategic leaders on Saturday. Again, we are hopeful that when Nigerians see leaders like Mr President and Mr Vice-President take the vaccine; it will increase their confidence around the safety of the vaccines
“As you are well aware that even before the vaccine arrived Nigeria, there is a lot of hesitancy. It is a global phenomenon. Vaccine hesitancy is similar no matter where you are, you have to provide the right information and to those people who have questions, we cannot dismiss their cynicism.
“It is our responsibility as public health workers not to only offer the vaccine but do the extra work in terms of providing the resources that are needed and to convince people that these vaccines are safe.”
The NPHCDA boss also enjoined Nigerians who wish to receive the vaccines to register on the website of the agency.

Chief Executive Officer of indigenous airline, Arik Air, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise aviation workers as Nigeria is set to begin vaccination against the lethal coronavirus infection.
The airline boss spoke on Wednesday when he met travel and tourism expert, Ikechi Uko, in his office in Ikeja, Lagos. Uko was at the Head Office of Arik Air in Ikeja to invite the airline for his Annual Abuja Jabamah Travel Event which is slated to hold on March 27 in Abuja.
It was earlier reported that Nigeria on Tuesday received nearly four million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO.
Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, had enjoined Nigerians who wish to receive the vaccines to register on the website of the NPHCDA, adding that over 2.3 million Nigerians have registered in the past few hours.

Shuaib had also said frontline health workers, amongst others would be prioritised in the vaccination.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Arik Air boss said aviation workers are frontline workers and giving them priority in the Covid vaccination will help keep the economy running and enable more people to travel safely.
Ilegbodu said, “Aviation workers should get priority for vaccination. In Arik, we are trying to see if we can get all our staff vaccinated as soon as possible. This will allow us to serve the public confidently, as we are frontline staff who deal with the public everyday.”

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has confirmed that defender, Thiago Silva, will not take part in his side’s Premier League clash against Liverpool on Thursday night at Anfield.
Silva had missed Chelsea’s last six games because of a muscle thigh injury.
The 36-year-old sustained the injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur earlier last month.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Tuchel revealed that the Brazilian international would not play for Chelsea against Liverpool.

Zamfara State government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Jangebe town in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the State following civil disturbances in the town.
This came after the recent release of the 279 students of Government Girls’ Secondary School abducted by bandits.
In a press statement signed by the state commissioner of information, Hon. Sulaiman Tunau Anka and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, he noted the unfortunate civil disturbances which took place in the town warranted the state government to take the action.
According to him, the curfew started Wednesday 3rd of March 2021, saying that the action was aimed at preventing any further breach of peace in the area.

“Similarly, there is strong discovered evidence of market activities in the town that aid and abet bandits’ activities in the town and neighboring communities.
“Consequently, all market activities in the town are hereby suspended until further notice,” he said.
According to the commissioner, the state government was poised to ensure safety of lives and properties of its citizens at all cost.
“With this announcement, the Zamfara State Police Command is hereby enjoined to ensure total enforcement,” he added.

The Nigeria Red Cross Society has said some residents of Yewa axis of Ogun State now sleep in Benin Republic to avoid being killed by herdsmen terrorising the area.
The Red Cross said the people relocated to the neighbouring country following attacks by suspected herdsmen.
The Ogun State executive branch secretary of the Red Cross, Oluwole Aboyade, said this on Wednesday.
Aboyade said he and his team visited the troubled areas – Igbooro, Asa, Moro, Ibeku and Agbon-Ojodu, lamenting that the people of Yewa were “living in unfavourable condition”.
<a name='more' id="more"></a>According to him, many had deserted their homes to seek refuge in Benin.
Aboyade disclosed that some of the people usually came to their communities during the day, but they sleep in Benin Republic.
He said, “What I saw there alongside my team, I will term it a very serious disaster.
“The people have deserted their homes and they now sleep in Benin Republic. You can imagine people leaving Nigeria to seek protection in another country. The situation is more than pathetic.”
Meanwhile, the Red Cross said it would seek assistance from Nigerians to help in bringing succour to the residents of the affected Yewa communities.
It was gathered that many communities in Yewa North, Imeko and Ipokia share many entries with Benin Republic.
In some communities in the three local government areas, it may be difficult to distinguish between the houses in Benin Republic and the ones in Nigeria due to lack of proper boundary demarcation.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has insisted no indigene of Yewa relocated to Benin Republic to seek refuge.
The Chairman of the state peace keeping committee, Kayode Oladele, had said those who returned to Benin Republic were citizens of the nation who were in Nigeria to lease farmlands, saying they are the Eguns and Ohoris.
Also, Governor Dapo Abiodun described as fake news, report that Ogun indigenes have become refugees in Benin Republic, saying it would have attracted diplomatic moves between the two countries if it was true.

Former Super Eagles star, Obafemi Martins, AKA Obagoal has opened up on the rift with Music superstar, Burna Boy.
It was reported that Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, AKA CDQ attacked Burna Boy for disrespecting Obafemi Martins.
In what seemed like a ‘brewing ‘beef’ CDQ had via his Twitter handle on Monday, scolded Burna Boy for what he described as “disrespect”, without mentioning what the self-acclaimed African Giant did to the football star.

State Governors will gather for an emergency meeting on Thursday.
The parley was called to deliberate COVID-19 vaccination and distribution in Nigeria.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said the meeting would be held virtually.
“The meeting is of a single-item agenda, which will discuss the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines and their distribution in the country,” he confirmed.

Bello-Barkindo announced that the meeting, according to the invitation sent to the governors, would commence at 5 p.m.
The federal government received 3.92 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 vaccine was shipped into Nigeria via the COVAX Facility.
The partnership is between Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), GAVI – the Vaccine Alliance, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO).

On Tuesday, 2nd of March, 2021, after a meeting of the National Security Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, retired Major General Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA) addressed State House correspondents, telling the nation about the outcome of the security council meeting.
Apart from dwelling particularly on the situation in Zamfara State, where 279 students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talata Malafa Local Government Area of the state were just released in the early hours of that Tuesday morning, the President, according to Monguno, also made far reaching proclamations and gave sweeping orders as regards the nation’s security situation.
To start with, the President ordered a ‘no fly zone’ over Zamfara State and also ordered immediate ban on mining in the state, which many believe is the genesis of the persistent insecurity in the state.
Beyond Zamfara, President Buhari ordered the nation’s service chiefs to recover all the areas that are being occupied by insurgents, bandits and kidnappers all over the country.

This particular order, for many, is the most important one made by the President, who has been accused for too long for his seeming silence and alleged carefree attitude over the security challenges facing the country.
For many Nigerians, rooting out insurgents, bandits and kidnappers from their hideouts and camps, mainly in the forests all over the country, will practically bring an end to insecurity.
Speaking further, Monguno, said there is no sovereign nation on earth that allows people who are non-state actors to force it to its knees, bringing about panic, apprehension, distrust and disorder.
“Therefore, both the defence and intelligence organisations have been charged that while we look forward to having a peaceful, non-kinetic resolution, we will not allow this country to drift into state failure.
“And with effect from today, the new service chiefs have been given directives by the Minister of Defence, conveyed by the President to the Minister of Defence, to reclaim all areas that have been dominated by bandits, kidnappers and other scoundrels of scallywags.
“Now, I need to stress also that there are individuals in this country who have assumed a status that is beyond what they should be. The intelligence from our own sources, the intelligence at my disposal reveals that we have certain entities, certain individuals who are making capital out of insecurity, especially kidnapping.
“This is a situation that has to be brought to an end and I’m sending a warning to anybody who is hiding beneath a veneer of some status, whether official, in terms of an official capacity or traditional or religious, to stoke the flames of disorder.
“The government is very serious about this. As I said, we’re drifting into a situation that we can no longer afford to lose lives.
“We are not going to be blackmailed, we’re going to use whatever that is at our disposal, while operating within the confines of legitimacy, within the confines of legality, but the government has a responsibility to assert its will, using the instruments at its disposal to keep the state moving, alive, happy in prosperity, this will not be compromised.
“I think we’ve had enough of violence, enough of chaos, enough of anarchy but I want to stress once more that any individual or group that thinks it can take it upon itself to cause disunity, disharmony and push the country to the brink should have a rethink.
“Any individual who thinks he has any support, who thinks he can undermine this government, anybody, any human being, as long as it is a citizen of this country, any person who thinks he’s the cat’s whiskers, or he can be rocky on the perch and lead us into a situation of unhappiness, will have himself to blame at the end of the day”, Monguno said on behalf of the President and the National Security Council.
Nigerians, who have monitored past responses of President Buhari to issues of insecurity will readily agree that the briefing by Monguno is no doubt the most far reaching, specific and targeted response from the Federal Government under President Buhari since he assumed office.
Though there have been occasions, according to analysts when the President had made pronouncements in the past concerning insecurity, but that of Tuesday remains the most assuring, making many to believe that President Buhari has finally woken up to the reality of the dire security challenges facing the country.
Though many Nigerians believe the orders by Mr. President were the most reassuring since the security situation in the country nosedived, others have picked holes, insisting that some of the orders were not well thought through.
First, to pick whole in the orders is Governor Bello Matawalle, the helmsman in Zamfara, the epicenter of banditry in the country, who insisted that the ‘no fly zone’ ordered by Buhari shows that he does not understand the situation in the state.
Matawalle, who expressed disappointment in the decision of the President, said: “It seems the security council doesn’t understand the nature of the security problems in Zamfara State but if they decided to take such action, let them go ahead.
“I’m not afraid of anybody and the problem of insecurity in the state predated my administration.
“Nigerians are waiting to see the outcome of the security council resolution to see if these bandits would be crushed.
“If the federal government fails to crush them after this resolution, then Nigerians will understand that they only sat and served themselves tea.”
For the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, the ban on mining in Zamfara may just be an invitation to another round of criminality in the state, adding that the underlying socio-ethnic tensions between the Hausa and Fulani in the state concerning gold mining, may make the ban a double-edged sword.
The President of the group, Akin Malaolu said on Tuesday, the statement reads: “The two decisions which banned mining activities in Zamfara and no-fly zone order are double edge sword for peace in the Northwest region because of the suspicion that it could rob Peter to pay Paul.
“The reasons for our fear can be traced back to the period between 2006 and 2007 when the then Governor Sani Yerima displaced a large population of Fulani from many mining sites and implanted Hausa youths to take charge. The displacement at that time caused both discomfort and death on the Fulani youths who then took to banditry life.
“If the government is placing a ban, we hope they won’t cause a new displacement that could re-enact the same security challenges we are yet to surmount.
“Our candid advice is for the federal government to take absolute control of mining sites in Zamfara and other states to nip in the bud such more scenarios of troubles.
“Nigerians ought to be told the whole truth about the story that gave rise to banditry in the Northwest of Nigeria. Fortune has been made through unofficial gold mining for decades and now is the time to put a complete stoppage to corruption in that sector. The no-fly zone is proper.”
For Mr. Olatunde Sosina, the orders by the President are good and welcome development. He, however, has doubts if they will be carried out to the latter.
According to Sosina, this is not the first time the President will give an order that went largely unimplemented.
“The problem is not pronouncement of an orders but for those saddled with the responsibility of carrying them out to do so. Remember when herdsmen/farmers crisis was at a peak in Benue. The President ordered his Inspector General of Police to relocate to the state and handle the situation but he simply disobeyed. The President, while on a visit to the same Benue, confessed that he never knew the IGP did not carry out his order. So, it is not about giving an order, the problem is, will it be carried out and will the President and/or his aides follow up to ensure compliance?”
For the Convener of Safe Communities Vanguards (SCV), Mr. Shogo Adeyemi, in a chat with newsmen, the President should be commended for coming out to speak and give orders that were specific and targeted at addressing the security concerns of Nigerians.
“I commend President Buhari for this decisive orders and the resolutions of the National Security Council. They have not just become responsive but have showed leadership. They have reignited the trust of Nigerians in the government and I am sure the end of insurgency, banditry and kidnapping is in sight.
“Questions bothering on whether the orders will be carried out does not arise as far as I am concerned. The Commander-In-Chief gave an order, everyone, from the service chiefs to the lowest rank in the security forces are under obligation to obey and carry them out,” Adeyemi said.
Speaking in the same vein, a security expert, Simon Adeniyi said for the fact that the President has spoken and given sweeping orders should give cause for cheers.
According to him, President Buhari has been variously accused of been docile and too aloof when it comes to the plight of the common Nigerian, who is at the receiving of the security situation in the country.
“I believe the orders by the President are in the right direction. They are no doubt a step towards achieving security of lives and property of Nigerians. At least, it was reassuring that we still have a government, as many have recently wondered if there is actually a government in the country.
“Will the orders be carried out? That’s another ball game entirely, but of course, I expect that they are carried out to the latter. The Commander-In-Chief’s orders are meant to be carried out and this is not different. So Nigerians should be positive and watch the security agencies to do their job. It is not our job to ensure that the orders are carried out and so, we should not be unduly bothered by that. I believe there are inbuilt mechanisms that will track the level of compliance with the President’s order”, Adeniyi submitted.
As Nigerians express delight in their belief that the President has finally ‘woken up’ and ready to tackle insecurity headlong, they also hope and believe that in no distant time, people, wherever they may reside in the country, will be able to go about their daily activities without fear of insurgents, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal gangs.

One Mrs Mfon Uweh of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Wednesday narrated before Justice Ifiok Ukana-led Judiciary Panel of Investigation on Incidences of police brutality in the State and how police officers broke into her house, shot her in the leg and fled.
Uweh who said she is a mother of four, however, demanded for the sum of N20 Million as compensation for the troubles she had passed through since the incident in 2010 and to be able to get proper medical treatment.
In a memo, JPPB/MEMO/061 presented to the panel by the counsel to the petitioner, Ewa Okpo Edmund, Mrs Uweh narrated, “As I was lying down in my room when I came back from the market, some armed policemen broke in, I was shocked because I never had issues with anybody. Immediately, I heard another policeman within the premises shouting, “including that room, including that room.”
In the midst of that confusion, according to the victim, she tried to stand up from her bed to inquire what was going on, unfortunately, the policeman that was inside her room shot her in the leg and zoomed off.

She added that her relatives and other neighbours who initially fled for safety returned to the scene where they heard the gunshot and took her immediately to the general hospital, Iquita in Oron Local government, and she was rejected by the hospital management, then they took her to a local bone attendant for treatment and removal of the said bullets.
She told the panel that her parents reported the incident to the then village head, late Chief Deyang who confirmed that he actually invited the police officers to the community to raid and arrest the youths terrorizing the village.
Uweh who said all the efforts of her parents to register the case at the local government police station met a brick wall said she had spent millions of Naira while treating herself, yet she barely walks.
Also, the petitioner’s council, Ewa Edmund in his prayers, requested the panel to ensure a State sponsored treatment for the victim, scholarship for her children willing to pursue their academics or any chosen vocation and a cash compensation of Twenty Million for the loss the victim and her family had suffered.
However, Chairman of the panel, Justice Ukana, in response adjourned the case for consideration in camera.

Some unknown gunmen, Tuesday evening, killed a passenger and abducted some others along Osogbo/Ibokun road.
According to sources in the area, the incident occurred between 7:30 and 8:00 pm near Ajebandele, a village in the Obokun Local Government area, about three kilometres to Osogbo, the state capital.
The gunmen had reportedly attacked travellers and shot dead a man, whose name is not immediately available, while an unspecified number of passengers were also abducted.
The Field Commander, Amotekun Corps in Osun, Amitolu Shittu, who was at the scene of the crime, confirmed the incident.

Amitolu said the deceased was shot dead by the attackers, whom he said carried AK-47 rifles, adding that search and rescue operation had commenced for those abducted.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has demanded the immediate arrest of Sheikh Gunmi, a cleric currently negotiating with bandits in the Northern part of the country.
Gunmi drew the ire of the apex Igbo group following his interview with BBC pidgin, where he was reported to have compared late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu with the bandits.
Ojukwu led Ndigbo to the Nigeria/Biafra civil war which lasted for three years, claiming millions of lives, and Gunmi now believes Ojukwu committed the same offence like the bandits.
But reacting, the OYC President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said he was surprised that Gunmi was still walking the streets a free man.

He said despite glaring evidence that Gunmi was in deep romance with terrorists, the security agencies had looked the other way while things worsened in the country.
“There is no doubt that Nigeria is at a crossroads in its journey to nationhood. Never in the history of the country has it witnessed such orge of violence and criminality being perpetrated by terrorists hiding under different nomenclatures.
“However, more worrisome is the fact that the chief mobilizer and the spokesman of the terrorists, Sheikh Gumi has been left to be walking freely despite clear evidence that he was part of Nigeria’s security problems.
“Ranging from his claims that bandits are not terrorists, to his mindless comparison of bandits with the IPOB and now Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, it is clear that Gumi has turned the chief spokesman of terrorists and should be arrested and prosecuted.
“He did not start today as his track record shows that he was part of those that laid the foundation to what we are seeing today; his divisive and inciting messages are not new in the country. Okwu, also in the statement, took a swipe at Kogi West Senator, Smart Adeyemi over his last week tirade against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
While describing Adeyemi as a shame and a bad image of the current Senate, Okwu urged Ikpeazu to ignore “a man who got to the Senate not by the people’s vote but violence and intimidation of voters.
“Smart Adeyemi is no doubt a disgrace to the journalism profession and the National Assembly, as we wonder how such a man with an unsound mind rose to the apex leadership of the revered union.
“We ask Governor Ikpeazu not to be distracted or allow himself to descend to the level of such a man who has no form of dignity.”

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on Tuesday urged media practitioners to be more circumspect while reporting issues that could further polarise the country.
Wike gave the advice in Port Harcourt at a meeting held to reconcile Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed.
He advised media houses to play a role in stabilising the peace and unity of Nigeria.
“The press should have a role to play in stabilising the country; it is not everything you must report. You don’t try to escalate things, and when you do that, you are not helping the country,” he said.

Wike thanked the two governors for amicably resolving their differences.
“We give God the glory today that the differences have been sorted out,” he said.
Recall that Ortom and Mohammed had clashed over a comment made by the Bauchi Governor that Fulani herdsmen should be allowed to carry AK-47 for self protection.

Unknown arsonists on Tuesday evening attacked and set ablaze the shopping complex of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State Council secretariat, located at Gusau, the state capital.
According to the shop owners, suspected thugs stormed the press center and started vandalising one of the shops and later poured petrol on the plastic items in the shop and lit it with lighter.
“The arsonists chased away the shop operators and others who were trying to put off the fire. The arsonists waited until the shop was engulfed with fire before leaving.
“They chased us away from our shops and made sure that the shop they targeted was set ablaze and engulfed in the inferno before they left.

“Before we knew it, more than four other shops had gone up in flames,” they lamented.
One of the shop operators, Mallam Umar, who sells provisions, told newsmen that when he got the opportunity to open his shop after the arsonists had left, his shop was full of smoke.
“Though fire did not burn my goods, most of my goods got smashed and stolen by some who posed as helpers.
“Honestly, I can’t quantify what I lost now because I am yet to rearrange my shop to know what is missing or damaged,” he said.
Mohammed Rabiu, a fashion designer who operates one of the shops, said the arsonists deliberately stopped the people from providing help when the fire started which made the inferno affect many shops.
“I and others were watching helplessly as the suspected thugs were unleashing terror on our shops; if not for the quick arrival of the fire service, the entire NUJ Secretariat would have been burnt to ashes,” he said.
Another fashion designer who also sells clothes explained that he was yet to ascertain what he lost during the rush hour as many entered his shop to pack out tailoring machines and clothes.
Malama Rahamatu, a restaurant operator whose shop was one of the shops mostly affected by the inferno, said she lost money and other valuables, including food items to the fire incident.
“I kept some money which was meant for buying items from Kano and left for home, with the intention to come back later in the evening to give the POS operator to transfer, but before I came back, the money and other things in the shop had gone up in flames,” she said.
The Acting Chairman of the Council, Comrade Ibrahim Mohammed Boko and the Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed described the inferno as a disaster and a big dent to the revenue generation of the council.
The NUJ officials called on the security operatives in the State to fish out the perpetrators.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has cautioned those calling for the resignation of the President.
Adesina said those calling for Buhari’s resignation due to the issue of insecurity in Nigeria were only exercising their freedom of speech, but such expression has its limitations.
He spoke on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, while responding to a question on Nigerians asking for Buhari’s resignation.
According to Adesina: “Under a democracy, people have freedom of speech. You have freedom of speech although that freedom also has boundaries.

“There is no freedom that does not have boundaries. The freedom that does not have boundaries will even injure the person who is utilising that freedom.
“So, if anybody says that kind of thing under a democracy, it is allowed but when it is bent on causing chaos, that person may be asked to come and answer certain questions”.
This is coming at a time when the leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, Primate Elijah Ayodele had called on Buhari and every other known politician to resign.
Ayodele had warned that they would soon be on the run.

Following the threat by some Northern Groups to end the supply of food items to the South, the Association of South East Town Union has said the people of the region are capable of feeding themselves.
The group’s National President, Emeka Diwe, and the Secretary, Gideon Adikwuru, in a statement on Tuesday, said it would within a short time put a stop to the capital flight caused by what they called “the imperialism of the northern agro-cartels in Igboland.”
The union noted that the blockade on food supplies to Igboland by the North cannot make them cower, shake or scamper for help as may be the belief of some Nigerians.
According to the statement, the decision of the Northern traders had helped the plan of Ndigbo through the association to attain total self-sufficiency in food production.

“The target is to encourage the steady and seamless repatriation of Igbo wealth back home, thereby unleashing the potential in all the sectors of the local economy and facilitate job and wealth creation for our people through various value chains.
“We prepared for it, and it has aided the materialisation of our initiative and fast-tracked our agenda which is to harvest home our wealth and make our land an oasis of prosperity among the Black race,” ASETU said.
Recall that the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and cattle Dealers of Nigeria had embarked on an indefinite strike, vowing not to supply food items to the South to protect alleged maltreatment of Fulani herdsmen and some Northerners residing in the south.
The union also demanded compensation of N4.75 billion to its members, over alleged losses incurred during the #EndSARS’ protest and razing of their properties at Shasha market in Oyo State
Subsequently, the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, have also urged the Federal Government to address the complaints of the striking union.

Petrol scarcity in Nigeria persisted on Tuesday and provoked an over 100 per cent rise in transport fares in many locations of the affected areas.

Also, hundreds of black marketers of petrol surfaced in various roads in Abuja and environs, 
as they sold the commodity at between N300 to N500 per litre.
The scarcity of petrol led to severe queues by motorists in front of the few filling stations that dispensed the commodity on Tuesday.
Transport fares were hiked by commercial transporters; for instance, the fare from Zuba, a border town between Abuja and Niger, to Berger, which used to be between N250 and N300, was raised to N600 on Tuesday.
Similarly, taxi drivers in Abuja city centre jerked up their rates by over 100 per cent, collecting over N1,000 for distances that they previously accepted between N500 and N700.
Reacting to the development, oil marketers stated that the supply of petrol by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had been distorted.
“We’ve had distortions in petrol supply and it’s like there is not enough product now, but NNPC recently said it had about 40 days’ stock,” the National Public Relations Officer, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Ukadike Chinedu, stated.
He told newsmen that although NNPC had insisted that there was no plan to hike petrol price in March, many marketers were still skeptical.
Chinedu said independent marketers were not getting petrol at the approved ex-depot price of N148 per litre from depots, adding that many IPMAN members sourced for the commodity at between N160 and N162 per litre.
“If you buy your product at N162 per litre, will you sell at N162, N165 per litre as approved by government? That is the issue; so tell me, why won’t there be price increase?” he asked.
The spokesperson, NNPC, Kennie Obateru, had insisted that there was no increase in ex-depot price and that the corporation was not making such plan in March.
The corporation as well as oil marketers had repeatedly called on the Department of Petroleum Resources, the regulator of the sector, to clamp down on depots that were selling petrol above the approved ex-depot price.
 The Department of Petroleum Resources, on Tuesday, warned marketers against hoarding petroleum products in their outlets.
The Director/Chief Executive Officer, DPR, Mr Sarki Auwalu, gave the warning following the emergence of queues in retail outlets in some states of the federation, according to a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Paul Osu.
 
According to him, available records show that there is product sufficiency in the country and that there is no need for hoarding by any marketer.
He emphasised that the department would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions on any outlet found wanting in this regard.
He said the agency had set up a special task force to intensify surveillance and monitoring of all retail outlets and depots nationwide to check the anomaly, and advised the general public against panic buying.
He said the DPR would continue to provide its regulatory focus of quality, quantity, integrity and safety for the effective operations of the downstream sector.

Service Chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari were on Tuesday confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.
The confirmation followed the report by the Senate Committee on Defence submitted to the Senate plenary.
Senate Committee Chairman on Defence and former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Wamakko in the report explained that the nominees who were appointed to replace the former ones made themselves available for screening following the upper chamber’s resolution on 3rd February, 2021.
According to him, the Committee was detailed in the screening in line with the relevant sections of the law, particularly with regard to the tendering of their documents, viz: “Educational certificates, NYSC, Code of Conduct and others.”

Senator Wamakko reminded the plenary that the nominees were already in acting capacity in line with the law that established the Nigerian military, saying their immediate confirmation would bridge any gap in the force.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Defence on the confirmation of the nomination of the following persons for appointment as Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs for Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
After deliberations, Senate confirmed the following as Service Chiefs:
1. Maj. General Lucky Eluonye Onyenucheya Irabor – Chief of Defence Staff
2. Maj. General Ibrahim Attahiru – Chief of Army Staff
3. Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo – Chief of Naval Staff
4. Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao – Chief of Air Staff
After the confirmation, the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan enjoined them to take the battle against insurgents to the forest.
Lawan revealed that the parliament would offer support, which he believes has to be reciprocated by winning the war, adding that a situation where students are abducted from schools is no longer acceptable.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has said he is delighted over the release of Jangebe school girls in Zamfara State.
Atiku in a tweet on Tuesday congratulated the Zamfara State government and those who worked to release the girls.
He, however, added that no citizen deserved to be kidnapped.
He also prayed for the safe release of other abducted people.

He said, ”As a father, I am delighted at the release of 279 students of GGSS Jangebe. Even as I rejoice with the families of the released, I hope and pray that the balance of the girls would soon regain their freedom and be rejoined with their families and loved ones.

”I congratulate the Zamfara State government and all those who worked in synergy to secure the safe return of these girls.
”I am convinced that the government will secure the release of the rest of the victims. The bigger task is to ensure that these kinds of incidents do not happen again, and that is an objective that the federal government should take the lead.”

The Federal Government has charged the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to immediately develop a robust scheme for school protection across the country in order to ensure the safety of children, especially within the school environs, from the incessant attacks by kidnappers and armed men.
Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, handed down the directive in his office in Abuja, on Monday, while decorating Ahmed Audi as the new Commandant- General of the NSCDC.
According to him, “Children are a specially protected social category. They are innocent and at the same time vulnerable. They are as vulnerable to external circumstances as to their own wiles.”
This was contained in a statement by the Ministry of Interior spokesman, Mohammed Manga, titled, ‘FG tasks NSCDC on school security.’

Aregbesola who expressed sadness over the spate of violations and kidnappings in schools urged the NSCDC to continue to work in synergy with other security agencies with a view to immediately restore peace and security in the country, particularly within the school environment.
In his speech titled “Your moment to be a hero”, the minister reminded the new Commandant-General that he is mounting the saddle “of this great organization at a very critical time in our dear nation with challenging security situations.”
He, therefore, informed him that it is going to be rough but that, as a motivational speaker once wrote, it is great challenges that produce heroes and men of history and thus advised him that he should continue to navigate diligently and triumphantly taking cognisance of the rigorous selection process that brought him into office, so as to ensure that he delivers on the mandate of the NSCDC in line with the policy thrust of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The statement read, “Aregbeslola further charged the leadership of the corps to develop a robust scheme that would not only check the menace in the schools but also ensure the protection of critical national assets, such as pipelines, electricity pylons, stations and cables, telecommunication mast, cables and installations.”
“Another scheme, like the Agro Rangers, should also be developed to cover full agriculture and offer protection to all categories of farmers. Protecting crop farmers and pastoralists is a matter of national food security”, he noted.
Speaking at the national headquarters of the Corps, the CG promised to establish a Women Corps to help stem the tide of insecurity across the country.
Audi who spoke shortly after taking over from the acting Commandant-General, Hillary Madu, also hinted of plans to fortify the agro rangers corps.
