Veteran actress, Lanre Adesina a.k.a Iya Awero has opened up on why she cried when Governor Sanwo-olu of Lagos gifted her a new two-bedroom apartment in Ikorodu.
On how she felt about the gesture, Iya Awero said she was dazed.
Speaking in a chat with Punch, she said: “It came as a surprise to me. I was not expecting it at all. I am so happy about it. I could not even control myself and I did not know when tears started dropping from my eyes.
“I am very thankful to the Lagos State government. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that it is not after we die that we should be celebrated, and that is very important. If one is appreciated in one’s lifetime, one would know one is doing well and one would even strive to do better. That way, the younger generations would also be encouraged to put in their best because they know they would be celebrated.

“We (entertainers) make people laugh away their sorrows and it does feel good when we are”.
Iya Awero also added that the gift came at the right time.
“I feel it came at the right time because I am still alive. 
Whenever God blesses one, one should receive it with open hands. There isn’t a lot of money in the industry. However, our work comes with a lot of respect and honour. We are usually celebrated wherever we go.”

Since auditions for the popular Big Brother Naija reality show began during the week, there has been palpable excitement across most social media platforms, especially by hopeful contestants and diehard fans of the show.
Actress and movie producer, Eniola Badmus, is also interested in the show as she revealed that she would like to be a housemate on the new season.
She said, “If I were not a celebrity, I would definitely go for BBNaija season six. As a matter of fact, if there is an opportunity to go into the house at any time, I will go. I am not one of the people that condemn the show. I don’t even think anyone should condemn it. Watching the show is by choice. The show is not aired on national television. It is on cable TV where one has to subscribe with money.

Participating in a reality show would not be hard for me because I have being in one before. One advantage I have is that I attended a boarding school. I actually won the show I participated in but they have not given me the prize money till now.  I learnt a lot of things during that reality show. The tasks challenged me and broadened my knowledge. I like reality shows because it is a way of co-existing with different people. It also teaches one how to deal with certain circumstances.
“The reality show is a go-to place for anyone who wants to be shot into the limelight. Over the years, the cash prize (of BBN) has been increasing and now, it’s N90m.”
Reacting to people who question the morality of the show, Badmus said, “I know some people have condemned the show, saying that it does not teach morals.  Some people also think it is misplaced priority for a young person to desire to be on the show. But, I don’t agree with that. The show is purely for entertainment, so every bit of it has to be entertaining. There are also a lot of tasks done on the show that can be classified as educative. It preaches body positivity as well. Fans going overboard and supporting their favourites is one of the interesting aspects of the show.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday defended the introduction of the use of the National Identity Number for the registration of the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The board said the move was for security reasons and to checkmate examination malpractice, adding that the directive was from the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, said this during a virtual meeting with owners of computer-based test centres, service providers and other stakeholders to kick-start the 2021 UTME registration. 
He said, “We don’t even require the name of the candidate, we just want the NIN. We will then do the needful to pull the data of the candidate and the process will go on from there.

“It is for security reasons. For us at our small level, it helps us to avoid impersonation, but there is a bigger picture. There is insecurity in the country and we know that many of these problems are there because we have identification problems. We can’t identify every citizen, where he is and what he is doing.
According to Oloyede, candidates must make use of accessible SIM cards which have never been used for UTME registration.
He said discussions were ongoing with the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, to grant a conditioned waiver to an estimated 20 per cent of candidates without SIM cards.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, denied threatening the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe.
Kanu said contrary to rumours, he never insulted the Obi of Onitsha.
Following the Onitsha Ado Security outfit formation, Kanu was accused of insulting and threatening the monarch.
However, Kanu explained that he only advised the monarch not to allow himself and his newly formed security outfit to be used by Fulani Janjaweed in Abuja to fight the Eastern Security Network, ESN, and IPOB.

Kanu made the explanation in a statement signed by the IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra IPOB has been drawn to the activities of mischief makers who are twisting the response of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to the recent statement made by our revered Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe concerning the formation of Onitsha Ado Security outfit.
“Our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never threatened Obi Alfred Achebe and his security outfit but only advised the revered monarch not to allow himself and his newly formed security outfit to be used by Fulani Janjaweed in Abuja to fight ESN and IPOB.
“IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never insulted the Obi of Onitsha as being mischievously misconstrued by these dubious characters and traitors in our land. They only want to twist facts for a piece of bread and crumbs from the caliphate. The fact remains that our Leader, Kanu has enormous respect for the Obi of Onitsha and holds him in high esteem.
“Our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu supports every genuine security outfit set up to protect our land and forest and secure our mothers, wives and sisters from the incessant rapes and killings by Fulani terrorists. But any security outfit set up to attack ESN cannot be allowed to exist.
“All Biafrans both home and abroad must support ESN security outfit. We are aware that some unscrupulous individuals and groups including traitors are trying to use Onitsha Ado vigilante to create confusion in our land. Communities are free to form their own vigilante to protect their villages and towns from Fulani terrorists attack.
“But any vigilante group set up to undermine or sabotage IPOB and ESN will end in disgrace. May we reiterate that we are not against any village vigilante or market vigilante group but if it works against ESN personnel it will surely end in disaster.”

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has named former Manchester United star, Odion Ighalo, among the legendary players who have worn the Super Eagles’ shirt in the past.
The other legends are Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo and Obafemi Martins.
Osimhen, who has inherited the number 9 shirt worn by Ighalo, said that it is an honour for him to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“I wouldn’t say that we are the most talented because there have been legends that have played in the Super Eagles – the likes of Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Ighalo, Obafemi Martins and the rest,” Osimhen told Channels Television ahead of Nigeria’s 2021 AFCON tie against the Benin Republic on Saturday evening.

“I think we are just fortunate to be in the Super Eagles, and everyone here deserves to be here because we have been doing great in our respective clubs.
“For me, I feel it’s an honour to represent the country, so I think everyone is going to give their best (against Benin, Lesotho).”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 113 new cases of COVID-19 in 9 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This brings the total number of recorded infections in the country to 162,388.
The health agency made the announcement while giving an update on Friday night via a post on its verified Facebook page.
NCDC said about 104 patients were discharged across the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 149,986.

No fewer than three persons also died of COVID19 complications in the last 24 hours as total fatalities hit 2,039.
According to the report, States with the highest fresh cases include Lagos-53, Rivers-22 and Akwa Ibom-12.
Others are: Kaduna-12, Ondo-6,Osun-3, FCT-2, Jigawa-1, Nasarawa-1 and Kano-1.

The Kano State Police Commissioner,  Sama’ila Shu’aibu-Dikko,  yesterday,  extolled two officers of the command, Insp. Garba Saleh-Rabo and Jamilu Alkassim for rejecting a N1 million bribe.

The duo, attached to the Kano State Consumer Protection Taskforce, reportedly rejected a N1million bribe by a suspected dealer of expired products in the city.
 
Moved by the exemplary conduct of the police officers, the Chairman of the task force, Bappa Dan’Agundi, presented them to the police commissioner.
 
The Police Commissioner  described the action of the officers as worthy of emulation.
He said that the officers,  following  intelligence, had stormed a warehouse loaded with expired products worth billions of naira.
 
Shu’aibu-Dikko said that the owner of the expired products, in a bid to circumvent the law, offered the officers a N1million bribe which they turned down and got him arrested.
 
“The two personnel while working with the Consumer Protection Council Task Force  received information that expired goods worth billions of naira were kept in a warehouse,” the police commissioner said in a statement.
 
“They stormed the location and were offered N1million bribe. They rejected the bribe, recovered  the expired goods and arrested the suspect as well as brought the money as exhibit,” he said.
 
The police commissioner said  the agency, in turn, presented N1million to the officers as a reward for their commitment and selfless service.
 
Shu’aibu-Dikko urged other officers in the command to emulate their colleagues whom he said brought honour to the police command in the state.

In the middle of the continued captivity of the 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State 17 days after they were abducted by armed bandits, no fewer than eight members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 30, Trinity Sanctuary, Kaduna, were on Friday abducted by gunmen.

The victims were on the church bus travelling for a programme when they were attacked.
 
A Facebook user, Eje Faraday, around 7pm broke the news on his page with a picture of the white vehicle.
 
“All the passengers in this bus were just kidnapped along Kachia Road, 63 km from Kaduna,” he wrote.
 
A credible source and an official of the church, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the report.
 
He said, “They were eight in number on the bus. They were going to Kachia in preparation for the church’s Let’s Go a Fishing Easter programme. The gunmen took them out of the bus and put them in their own operational vehicle. They have yet to contact the church.
 
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, said he was still making enquiries on the incident.
He said, “I have contacted our officers along that axis. Actually, we have three divisions in that area. I have got responses from two divisional police officers, who said they were not aware of the incident. I am just waiting for the response of the third DPO. When I get it, I will let you know.”
The RCCG Head of Media and Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, did not answer calls to his mobile, which rang out several times.
 
Meanwhile, medical experts have raised the alarm that the abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation may suffer panic disorder, nightmares and other manifestations of post-traumatic disorder.
 
The medical experts, comprising psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health advocate, in separate interviews with our correspondents, warned that when eventually released or rescued, the students could suffer depression, difficulty with attention in class, lack of trust and other mental issues.
Parents of the students had on Monday protested and given Kaduna State and the Federal Government 48 hours to rescue the students, lamenting that they were worried about the health of their children, some of whom they said sustained injuries during their abduction.
 
A parent who spoke on behalf of other parents during the protest, Mr Friday Sani, said, “We are by this press conference demanding that the government rescue our children by all means and within 48 hours so that the process of their rehabilitation can commence because the longer they stay in captivity the worse the situation will be.”
 
Bandits had on the night of March 11 abducted no fewer than 30 students from the school, located opposite the Nigerian Defence Academy on Airport Road. The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said in a statement that checks by the government revealed that 39 persons, comprising 23 females and 16 males, were missing.
 
He, however, gave an assurance that security agents were working hard to rescue the students, noting that troops of the Nigerian Army from 1 Division prevented the bandits from taking away more students and that they were able to rescue 180 persons.
The state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had insisted that his government would not negotiate with bandits, who demanded N500m ransom. The bandits also warned that the students would not go home alive should any attempt be made to rescue them.
He said, “We will not engage with bandits or kidnappers. Private citizens like clerics and clergymen can do so in their individual capacities, to preach to them and ask them to repent. We also want them to repent but it is not our job to ask them to do so.”

The civil war was fought between the government of Nigeria headed by Gen. Yakubu Gowon and the secessionist state of Biafra led by Lt. Col Odumegwu Ojukwu from July 6, 1967 to January 15, 1970.
 
Shehu said the President spoke at an event to welcome the leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Religious Movement, Sheikh Muhammadul Mahy Niass.
 
The presidential aide quoted Buhari as paying tributes to the martyrs of the civil war.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has confirmed that over 300,000 people have received their first doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The NPHCDA said on its official Twitter yesterday that those vaccinated so far in the country were 9.5 per cent as at March 26, 2021.
 
It said over 374, 585 people have been vaccinated across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.The Nigeria Immunisation Agency data showed that all states except Kogi have commenced vaccination against the infection in the country.
 
It said Kogi State was not supplied with the vaccines because their cold store was still under repair following vandalisation during the EndSARS protest.
 
It stated that Lagos state, the epicentre of coronavirus in the country, had vaccinated almost 92,000 people, making it the highest in the country; followed by Ogun with 36,953, Bauchi-31,321, Kaduna-29,426, Jigawa-22, 420 and Kwara- 20,060.
 
The agency noted that states with the lowest number of vaccinated people were Kebbi, Taraba, with one each, while Abia had four.
 
The NPHCDA said Nigerians could register for their COVID-19 vaccination by visiting its website nphcda.gov.ng and clicking on COVID-19 Vaccination e-registration.

Delivering the 34th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar with the topic: “The National Question and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria” in Calabar, yesterday, Amaechi said the Buhari administration was committed to massive infrastructural development across the country. Amaechi explained that the objective was to ease movement across the country and by extension enhance national integration.
 
“In a few weeks from now, we are going to sign the loan agreement for the commencement of that project and before the end of the year, contractors will move to site,” he said.
 
He added: “The President Buhari administration has embarked on railway construction and rehabilitation from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, from Ibadan to Kano and from Abuja to Kauran Namoda, among others.
 
“We are also renewing the Lord Lugard railway line that has been out of effective service for decades,” he said.

While some fans want an alumnus of the Big Brother Naija maiden edition in 2006, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, to retain his seat as the host of the show, other devotees of the programme desire a fresh wine in the person of Frank Edoho, who was host of popular Nigerian TV show, ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’.
BBNaija, which makes a return for a sixth season later this year, has already topped previous seasons as MultiChoice Nigeria announced a grand prize of N90m.
BBNaija hopefuls, who are 21 years or older and of Nigerian nationality with valid passports, will get an early audition when they pay for the DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Confam, Yanga package or on GOtv Max or Jolli package between March 24 and March 31, 2021, MultiChoice said.

The #BBNaijaEarlyAccess online auditions will also require interested participants to make a two-minute video stating why they should be picked to be housemates, the company added.
But prior to the auditions, lovers of Edoho and Ebuka, on Friday, clashed on social media, calling on the organisers of the event to bring their man in as host for the 2021 show.
A tweep, @iamkelgrin, seemed to have ignited a social media war when the user wrote, “Ebuka don eat small, make him allow another person chop! Frank Edoho as BBNaija host for this season won’t be a bad choice though. Eviction night go choke gan!”
A barrage of criticisms and divergent views thus followed the tweet with Edoho urging fans to let Ebuka remain as the presenter of the show.
Edoho, who replied to @iamkelgrin’s tweet, wrote, “What did Ebuka do to deserve all this? Why would you want to change someone that has done a show successfully for only 3 years and have him replaced with one who did WWTBAM for 13 years? Leave Ebuka alone! Please.”
A tweep, @UncleMaazi, also wondered, “The sudden hate on Ebuka is what I don’t get!”
“If Ebuka stops hosting BBN, I don’t think the show would ever remain the same anymore,” @Preciouschee submitted.
@Chines_zoe sent “thunder to fire” those who want the fashionable Ebuka replaced while @OluSaltz said Edoho was right but “deep down I prefer you over Ebuka due to your suspense.”
“We are not saying he (Ebuka) did something wrong. All we are saying is we just want to get another flair. Ebuka is good no doubt,” @chykeobrain stated.

Super Eagles were in high spirit when they arrived in Porto Novo on Friday by boat for Saturday’s crucial 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Benin Republic.
In a video clip obtained by newsmen, the players were seen listening to music and gisting as they are at the Porto Novo Jetty in half a dozen boats across the waterways from Lekki, Nigeria.
In one of the video clips, the captain of the team, Ahmed Musa, was seen joking with his colleagues.
They were received by Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin Republic, Olawale Awe, and other mission staff, who later led the team and other officials to Cotonou, where the group is ensconced at the Golden Tulip Hotel.

The Super Eagles will ride by bus to Porto Novo on Saturday morning and return to the Golden Tulip after their clash with the Squirrels at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation added.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said that it is impossible for officials to sell the COVID-19 vaccine without the government detecting it.
He said this in a statement from the Ministry of Health reacting to allegations of the state deploying its own portal to register people; diversification of vaccine; and sale of vaccine.
Abayomi said Lagos State Government will never compromise on the vaccination protocols rolled out by the Federal Government, noting that the state government has vaccinated over 100,000 persons since the vaccination exercise started.
He also debunked the allegation of vaccine sales at any of the 88 vaccination sites, stating that the allegation at the Ikate vaccination site is “untrue and baseless”.

He explained that “COVID-19 vaccination protocols are strictly monitored to ensure accountability of every unit of the vaccine received by the State, adding that every unit administered on citizens is accounted for at every stage of the process”.
Abayomi noted that every unit of vaccine administered tallies with the vaccination card and the barcode on the vaccination card as part of the quality assurance and accountability framework put in place.
He stated that “it is difficult and near impossible for any unit of vaccine to be sold without being detected.

A Police Inspector Garba Saleh Rabo, with the Operations Department, Kano State Police Command, has rejected N1 million offered to him as a bribe.
The acting Managing Director, Kano Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Baffa Dan-Agundi presented the Inspector and one other, Jamilu Alkasim to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko on Thursday.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna on Friday said Dan-Agundi noted that Inspector Garba Saleh Rabo and Jamilu Alkasim have done a commendable job by refusing to collect bribe.
The duo of Inspector Garba Saleh Rabo and Jamilu Alkasim are attached to the state Consumer Protection Council task force.

‘’The two personnel, having received information that expired goods worth billions of Naira were kept in a warehouse, stormed the facility, where N1 million was offered as bribe,‘’ the statement said.
“They rejected the bribe, recovered the expired goods, the money as an exhibit and arrested the suspect,” said Dan Agundi who is also the MD of Kano Road Traffic Agency.
‘’The agency commended the two personnel and decided to give the same amount in appreciation to them. He called on the general public to continue to support the police and appreciate those with outstanding performances.’’
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police Sama’ila Dikko, after presenting the sum of N1 million to the personnel, called on the good people of the state to emulate them.

Chuks Ibegbu, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Friday accused Nigerian political elites of ganging up against the Southeast.
Ibegbu made the remark while insisting that the Igbos have not been fairly accommodated within the Nigeria’s political sphere.
Speaking with newsmen, Ibegbu called on all political parties to address the matter in 2023 by zoning their presidential candidates to the Southeast.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo chieftain described Igbos as hard-working and patriotic people who should rule Nigeria in 2023.

He said: “Under normal circumstances, wherever a president hails from does not matter; what should matter is performance and who will deliver the dividends of democracy. But in a pluralistic and diverse society like ours, every section of the country must have a feeling of political belonging.
“There must be fairness in the distribution of political powers, and because of the nature of our society which is an evolving one, every sector should have a sense of belonging.
“The North has dominated power for more than forty years, either military or civilian. The West also has had its fair share either as military or civilian, and recently the South-south too (Jonathan).
“Nigeria was built on a tripod, North, West and East. A significant bloc of that tripod is the Igbos, and they have not been given political fairness; they have not been politically accommodated. That does not mean they have not been participating in political activities in Nigeria. There seems to be a political gang-up against the Igbos and the irony is that Nigeria is suffering from it.
“Igbos are a very patriotic set of people and very conscious of developments, so why won’t all the political parties Zone their presidential candidates to the Southeast.
“In the first republic, there was a kind of zoning; that was why Abubakar Tafa-Balewa became the Prime Minister while Zik from the South became a ceremonial president. In the Second Republic, Shagari was from the North, and Alex Ekwueme was from the Southeast. When Yar’ Adua was President from the North, Jonathan was from the South. So zoning has been a feature of our political stability, so there is nothing wrong in zoning due to our society’s nature.
“Zoning is necessary until such a time when we are mature enough not to care where the president comes from, either from Daura or Ogbomosho, so long as food is on my table, but we have not reached that stage yet. So, that is why it is very apt that all political parties zone their presidential candidacy to the Southeast and the Igbos. Eight years is not too much; let the power go round. After that, we can now sit down and say where the president comes from does not matter.”

Unknown gunmen on Thursday night reportedly invaded the Jos Aviation quarters in the Heipang Area of Plateau State and abducted no fewer than three residents.
The gunmen who gained access into the quarters at the late hours of Thursday shot sporadically before whisking away the three victims which included a couple.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba told newsmen that he needed more time to confirm the incident.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said that there is a covenant between members of the All Progressives Congress that power should shift to the South in 2023.
He said this on Thursday while speaking at the presentation of a book by a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Perterside, on Thursday.
According to him, restructuring, state police and devolution of powers would not solve Nigeria’s problem.
The governor also noted that there was a need to give Nigerians a sense of belonging in leadership.

Zulum said, “The issue of power rotation is a covenant between us hence the need to shift the power to the south.
“I have advocated for power to shift to the South and I will continue to do so. Nobody should say that I am saying this because I am looking for the position of vice president; I don’t have an interest.
“I don’t have an interest in becoming the president or the vice president now. Let the Southerners compete among themselves – be it South-South or South-East or South-West.
“This is something we need to do.”
He also called for a holistic approach to tackle the insecurity challenges faced in the country.
Zulum said, “There must be a clear demarcation between competency and loyalty and our leaders must be chosen based on performance.
“I would advocate as a starting point that good governance is the heart and soul of security and development. Bad governance will spread insecurity and destroy the possibility of development as trust is broken between the elected and the electorate.
“A weak system breeds corruption and in order to survive, people will try whatever means to circumvent due processes and over time this will lead to insecurity.
“The search for alternative means of survival that is not legal constitutes insecurity.”

The Nigerian Army has released the list of successful candidates at the Short Service Combatant Course 47/2021 Selection Board.
A statement issued on Friday advised the successful candidates to report for officer cadet training at the Old Site of the NDA Kaduna on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
The statement read, “This is to inform the general public that candidates who are successful at the Short Service Combatant Course 47/2021 Selection Board have been shortlisted and published on the Nigerian Army recruitment portal. Beware Of Fraudsters!
“NOTE: Successful candidates are to report for officer cadet training at the Old Site of the NDA Kaduna on Tue 6 April 2021. The candidates who fail to report by 6pm on Wed 7 April 2021 will forfeit their positions & be replaced by another candidate on the Reserve List.”

The successful candidates are to come with the following:
1. Original credentials and SSC 47 online application print out that bears their passport photograph.
2. Four copies of 5×7 coloured photograph in suit and in full standing position without cap/hat.
3. Two pairs of white (unmarked) round neck vests and navy blue shorts (without stripes).
4. Two pairs of black trousers.
5. Two pairs of pure white canvas trainers (rubber type NOT acceptable).
6. Two white bedsheets and pillowcases.
7. One blanket (grey or army green colour).
8. A set of cutlery.
9. Two pairs of national dress or suit and casual wears.
10. Serving military personnel are to come along with release letters and passes from their commanders/commanding officers.
The statement warned that the successful candidates who fail to report by 6pm on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, will forfeit their positions and be replaced by another candidate on the Reserve List.

Popular filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has announced that he has received a shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, the movie director revealed that he took the vaccine on Wednesday.
Afolayan said he took the vaccine despite claims about the alleged side effects of the drugs among those who have been vaccinated.
He also shared a picture of a certificate given to him after taking the vaccine to certify that he has been vaccinated while saying that he is not “scared of death”.

Recall that Nigeria received its first batch of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 2.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) had earlier debunked claims of severe side effects relating to the administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
“No Nigerian so far has developed any known severe side effects following vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccine,” it said.

Nigeria’s Starboy, Wizkid, has won his second NAACP Image Award for his feature on Brown Skin Girl alongside Beyonce, Saint Jhn and Blue-Ivy Carter.

The Presidency, on Friday, declared that nobody can bring down the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, spoke on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme.
Shehu described secession agitators as “charlatans” sponsored to bully the President thinking he will cower or panic. He maintained that the Buhari regime will not be kicked out of power by any group through blackmail.
The Presidency stressed that the Buhari regime was democratically elected. It, therefore, advised power-grabbers to wait for two more years to take over power in 2023 through the ballot boxes.

Growing disaffection, dissatisfaction and insecurity in the country had made some persons declare their support for Yoruba Nation and Biafra Republic.
Popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho; as well as the Chairman of socio-political group, the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination, Prof Banji Akintoye, and other proponents of self-determination had last week declared their allegiance for the Yoruba Nation.
A former militant in the Niger Delta region, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, had also recently announced himself as the leader of the new Biafra de facto Customary Government in the South-East.
But speaking on Friday, Shehu urged people with “strong ambitions” to wait for another two years to contest in the 2023 presidential election.
He said, “I want to assure Nigerians that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is addressing multiple challenges that are facing the country especially in dealing with security and yet we are still making progress in agriculture, economy, anti-corruption, which are the key policies that brought the party and the government to office.
“It is sad for the country that opposition is exploiting some of these things. It is quite unfortunate and I want to assure that the president remains focused in preserving the security and unity of this country. 
“It is an established fact that all nations of the world face problems and what is expected of all well-meaning members of the society is that they should team up with the government so that together we will all fight criminality and insurgency and all that.
“We accept that dissent is allowed, this is a democracy and people have a right to tell truth to government but we must be careful in doing that. Nobody can bring down the government because this is a government elected democratically.
“Government in a democracy come through periodic elections and if we have a government in office as we have, sponsored by political parties to win the elections, it is telling you that that confidence of the public is still there.
“People with strong ambitions, wait till four years, in fact, in our case, two more years to go to election and President Buhari will not be a candidate in that election.”
Spokesman for the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who also spoke on the programme, however, said nobody was interested in bringing down the Buhari government.
He chastised the Presidency for labeling critics of the Buhari regime as enemies and accusing them of trying to bring down the government.
Baba-Ahmed said Nigerians want to live in a safe and secure country and the President must protect the lives and properties of the citizens, adding that Buhari must listen to the grievances of secessionists.

Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has described the recent N50 million donation made to Katsina State by the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu as politically childish, hypocritical and disappointing.
Bamgbose said it was never a bad idea to donate money to assist the traders who lost their goods and shops to the inferno at Katsina Central Market, but wondered why the former Governor of Lagos State never thought it wise and imperative to do same when crisis occurred in Sasa Market in Oyo State.
He also wondered why the plight of traders whose goods and property were destroyed at the Ijesha Market fire never caught Tinubu’s attention.
“He had time to fly to Katsina State to pay the victims a sympathy visit but never had time to visit Oyo State or even the Ijesha market in Lagos State,” Bamgbose noted during a chat with newsmen.

“He possibly must have donated the N50m and personally visited Katsina State to impress or appease Buhari who is from Katsina State, this is politically childish and inappropriate.
“This act of charity won’t do much in view of the fact that people already know his reasons for such Greek gift. Let him however be informed that his donations won’t make him a favorite when it comes to APC primaries come 2023.
“APC will still deny him ticket. MKO Abiola did more than him yet National Party of Nigeria, NPN never had a plan to give him ticket. Pleasing the North is not the secret of becoming the President of Nigeria, it is rather pleasing of the masses.
“His donations can’t change the mindset of the party. Let him forget about his Presidential ambition, it’s a mere dream that may not come to pass. Nigeria is looking forward to a leader that is forthright, firm and frank come 2023,” he added.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has pledged to stand by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
Kanu made the remark in reaction to Ortom’s comment that people of the State are ready to stop Fulani herdsmen.
Ortom had said the Tiv nation in 1804, fought and stopped the Fulani herdsmen from taking over the State.
The Governor declared that the present generation of the Tiv nation are not afraid to follow the steps of their forefathers.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State says the Catholic Church remains a strong pillar and powerful tool in the promotion and development of education, and as such will always receive the support of his administration.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this on Thursday, while receiving in audience, the leadership of the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Congregation at the Governor’s Lodge, Aba.
He assured the congregation that his administration was always willing to partner with faith-based organizations in the State, especially in education and other areas that touch on the lives of the people.
The State Chief Executive told the delegation that he will give serious consideration to their requests for assistance in their school, electricity for their premises at Ahiake Ndume Ibeku and some remedial works on the road leading to their congregation.

Governor Ikpeazu then instructed the Executive Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board to immediately commence the building of a block of classrooms at their school, while the Commissioner for Works should visit the congregation and assess what needs to be done to give some immediate attention to the road leading to their congregation.
He thanked them for their kind words and their prayers, as well as the gifts they presented to him.
Earlier, the Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Congregation, Ahiaeke Ndume, Rev. Mother Angeline Umezurike thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for granting their request to see him.
She told the Governor that their congregation was established in the Diocese of Umuahia in 1965 by the then Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev Anthony Gogo Nwedo basically for the purposes of evangelism and to assist humanity through other means.
Continuing, she said that they work in schools, hospitals and set up orphanages and that they also work with mentally challenged persons.
The Superior General told the Governor that they had come to identify with him and congratulate him on the series of achievements recorded by his administration, especially in the area of the provision of infrastructure and also to pray for him.
She took the opportunity to request the Governor to come to the aid of their Congregation in the area of support for their school, electricity and the road leading to their congregation at Ahiaeke Ndume Ibeku.
The delegation also presented the Governor with a pack of special cakes baked by the members of the congregation.

President Joe Biden warned North Korea Thursday that the United States will “respond accordingly” if it escalates its military testing after Pyongyang fired two missiles in its first major provocation since he took office.
The nuclear-armed North has a long history of using weapons tests to ramp up tensions, in a carefully calibrated process to try to forward its objectives.
Biden’s response demonstrates a change of tone from his predecessor Donald Trump, who engaged in an extraordinary diplomatic bromance with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and last year repeatedly played down similar short-range launches.
Pyongyang had been biding its time since the new administration took office, not even officially acknowledging its existence until last week.

But on Thursday it launched two weapons from its east coast into the Sea of Japan, known as the East Sea in Korea.
It was a violation of UN resolutions and the US was “consulting with our partners and allies,” Biden said, warning North Korea that “there will be responses if they choose to escalate. We will respond accordingly.”
“I’m also prepared for some form of diplomacy, but it has to be conditioned upon the end result of denuclearization,” he told reporters.
Washington and Tokyo said the North had fired ballistic missiles, which it is banned from developing under UN Security Council resolutions that have imposed multiple sanctions on the isolated country.
Pyongyang insisted Friday that the test involved a “tactical guided projectile” with a solid-fuel engine, with its official KCNA news agency saying it was supervised by senior official Ri Pyong Chol, rather than leader Kim Jong Un.
The weapons hit a target 600 kilometres (370 miles) away, KCNA said — further than the 450 kilometres reported by South Korea’s military — and could carry a payload of 2.5 tons.
Pictures in Pyongyang’s official Rodong Sinmun newspaper showed grinning officers applauding after the launch, most of them not wearing masks.
Vipin Narang of MIT said it appeared to be a weapon that the North displayed at a military parade in January.
“A 2.5-ton warhead likely settles the question whether this KN23 variant is nuclear-capable. It is,” he tweeted.
The US stations 28,500 troops in South Korea to defend it against its neighbour, which invaded in 1950, while Pyongyang says it needs nuclear weapons to deter a possible US invasion.
Besides Biden’s comments, rebukes poured in from Germany, France and Britain, which each condemned the tests as violations of UN Security Council resolutions.
At Washington’s request, the UN North Korea sanctions committee would meet Friday behind closed doors, according to diplomatic sources, although no public statement is expected.
Pyongyang has made rapid progress in its capabilities under leader Kim, testing missiles capable of reaching the entire continental United States as tensions mounted in 2017.
Trump’s first year in office was marked by a series of escalating launches, accompanied by a war of words between him and Kim before a dramatic turn to personal diplomacy, with the two holding headline-grabbing summits in Singapore and Vietnam.
The United States pulled back on some joint military exercises with South Korea while the North froze nuclear tests and intercontinental ballistic missile launches.
But their February 2019 Hanoi summit broke up over sanctions relief and what North Korea would be willing to give up in return.
Communications then dried up, despite a third encounter in the Demilitarized Zone that divides the Korean peninsula, and no substantive progress was made towards denuclearization.
Pyongyang was now “slowly going up that spectrum, that ladder of the inflammatory nature of provocation,” said Frank Aum, a North Korea expert at the US Institute of Peace and former Pentagon adviser, to see how the Biden administration responded.
Thursday’s launch, and an earlier test of short-range, non-ballistic missiles at the weekend, came after joint exercises by the US and South Korean militaries and a visit to the region by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, when Blinken repeatedly stressed the importance of denuclearizing North Korea.
Biden administration officials say they have sought to reach out to Pyongyang through several channels but have received no response so far.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has said that the number of COVID-19 recoveries from 36 states and Federal Capital Territory stood at 149,882 as it announced 97 new cases.
The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Thursday.
It also said that it managed 1,015 community recoveries in FCT and 10 community recoveries in Akwa Ibom State in line with its guidelines.
The agency said that the data from the FCT were recorded over the last two days.

It said that 1,156 people were successfully treated and discharged from different isolation centres across the country in the last 24 hours.
The NCDC said that the 97 new cases brought the total number of infections in the country to 162,275.
It stated that the new infections were registered from 14 states and the FCT with Lagos state recording 50 cases, Kaduna 12, FCT 10 and Bayelsa 8.
Other states were: Imo 3, Kwara 3, Bauchi 2, Osun 2, as well as Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kano, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, and Zamfara with one case each.
The agency said that there were 11,421 active cases in the country in the last 24 hours.
It, however, reported additional five COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the death toll to 2,036.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the country’s daily new cases continued to follow a downward trajectory from an all-time high of 2,314 new positive cases on Jan. 22, to 86 cases as of March 21.
NAN recalls that the country has tested 1,727, 467 people since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced on Feb. 27, 2020.

Apostle Paul Okikijesu of the Christ Apostolic Miracle Ministry, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against being coerced into shedding the blood of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, pro-Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido and ex-militant leader, Tompolo.
He also said that the President has refused to listen to wise counsels from men of God but has depended on the advice he gets from those who mislead him.
According to him, God is expecting Buhari to pay attention to previous warnings he has been given and effect positive changes.
He also advised the President to have meetings with the banking sector, Stock Exchange, Gas and oil sector, and all other sectors that are involved in the growth of the country’s economy.

“The President should believe in the voices of the religious advisers more than the voices of those who are coercing/pushing him. He should believe in their voices more than his own wisdom,” Okikijesu said in a press release forwarded to newsmen on Friday.
“Thus says the Lord: What I am saying is that the President must not allow people to coerce/push him to shed the blood of these four men: namely Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), Sanusi Lamido, Nnamdi Kanu and Tompolo. If this happens there will be panic and the country will be shaken.
“Thus says the Lord: The blood of these four men is not for sacrifice, and it is not to be used to appease his spirit for a long life, or to achieve his goals. Inform the President that he must not permit or condone the blood of these four men to be spilled.
“He must not allow people to use their might/power to shed the blood of these four men. If the blood of these men is shed; then the government will be taken away from him and it will be given to his deputy.
“That means, his vice should be making preparation, because I the Lord will crown him with a glorious crown, to govern the country. If this does not happen, I am not God anymore.
“Thus says the Lord: If the President quickly silences people who are agitating concerning these four men, and performs the amendments that I the Lord is expecting from him; then he will govern for a brief period of time; else his deputy will assume the control of the country.”

Egba traditional rulers, women chiefs and leaders, as well as other indigenes of Egbaland at home and in diaspora have declared their unflinching support for the Alake, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.
Oba Gbadebo was recently attacked by some social media users over a comment that Nigeria is better as an indivisible entity and that the black race would fail if Nigeria failed.
Alake admonished those beating the drum of war to embrace peace, warning that no nation could accommodate 250 million people as refugees.
The Oba’s comment came a few days after the self-acclaimed activist, Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho) declared that Yoruba would no longer be a part of Nigeria.

With this, Sunday Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, did a video, wherein he attacked the Alake, with a threat that angry Yoruba youths would invade his palace because he did not support the secession plan.
Aside from Koiki, many individuals called out the monarch on social media for his comment, which they interpreted as tackling Sunday Igboho.
On Thursday evening, Egba kings, chiefs, women leaders and traders trooped out to tell the Paramount Ruler that they were behind him.
It was reported that the verbal attack on Alake was described by the Osi Egba, High Chief Bode Mustapha, as unwarranted, ill-advised and a desecration of the Yoruba’s respect for the truth, the royalty and the elders.
Egba Women Chiefs and market leaders, who were led by Iyalode Alaba Lawson, were at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta to show solidarity and renew their loyalty to the king.
Represented by the Otun Iyalode, Lawson told the Alake to continue to stand by his clarion call for justice and peace, not only in Egbaland, but also in Nigeria, saying “we don’t want war in Egbaland.”
She assured the revered monarch that the entire Egba women were solidly behind him, saying it is only those looking for the wrath of God and Egba people that would speak ill of Oba Gbadebo.
In her words, the Iyaloja of Egba, Chief Kemi Oloyede, emphasised that “Egba traders will never allow social media miscreants to insult our revered monarch, in whatever circumstances”, adding that only uncultured people would insult an Oba.
In the same vein, Egba traditional rulers, swore to always “defend the good name and the integrity of the Alake.”
The Olu of Itori, Oba AbdulFatai Akamo said this when he led a group of Egba Obas and Baales to pay homage to the Alake.
Oba Akamo stated that the Alake should not be bothered by what he called the “misguided utterances of social media hoodlums”, who he said had no other business than to spread fake news and engage in “anti-social behaviour and irresponsible cultural attitude to their community leaders.”
Akamo warned those peddling fake news and making disrespectful statements about the Alake to immediately desist or “be ready to face self-inflicted cultural destruction.”
Responding, Oba Gbadebo thanked the Egba women, Obas, Baales, individual visitors, callers as well as Egba High Chiefs for their support to pursue truth and integrity.
He stressed that it was not those who rightly or wrongly caused a war that suffered calamities, but the innocent, especially women, children and the aged.
He added that in spite of the many challenges facing the nation, Nigeria would be better if leaders can sit together to talk sincerely with the fear of God, saying “it is better off to jaw-jaw than to war-war.”
He seized the occasion to call on political leaders, the youth, and religious bodies to remember that they had been called by God to lead Nigeria in peace and justice

The Presidency has reacted to reports that a Nigerian pharmacist, Solomon Akuma, has been remanded in prison for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari.
A report by Sahara Reporters disclosed that Solomon has been in detention for over a year for criticising Buhari.
He appeared in court on Wednesday, March 24, but was denied bail.
However, reacting, Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad said contrary to the claim, Solomon was arraigned in court for saying he would pay an assassin to kill President Buhari and his former Chief of Staff.

Bashir on his Twitter page wrote: “For criticizing Buhari? No, a few 100s criticize the President on daily, nothing has ever happened to them.
“For Akuma, it is not an issue of criticism, he publicly said that he will pay an assassin to kill the President and late CoS. We all ought to know, there is a price for that.”

Alvaro Morata has revealed he “came close” to suffering from depression during his time at Chelsea.
The Blues paid a then club-record £58 million fee to sign Morata from Real Madrid in 2017.
However, the striker struggled at Stamford Bridge, despite scoring 24 goals in 72 games.
Morata left Chelsea for Atletico Madrid in January 2019, before joining former club, Juventus prior to the current campaign.

“I’ve never had depression and I hope I never do, but I came close,” Morata said in an interview with El Mundo.
“When your head doesn’t work well, you are your worst enemy. During those times, it doesn’t matter what you do, you are always fighting against yourself. Depression is an illness just like breaking your ankle.”

Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in the northeast Nigeria were on Wednesday evening thrown into wild jubilation as electricity returned to the town two months after Boko Haram destroyed the transmission lines, putting the whole state in total darkness.
Although Maiduguri, the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency has not been enjoying constant electricity supply since the conflict began in 2009, the few hours of electricity they have in a day means a lot to the people.
Often, transmission lines are vandalised by the insurgents or sometimes as a result of the ongoing battle, but the last time Boko Haram took on the lines was to ensure that the state electricity never retruned to the city.
When the government attempted to restore power in the state two weeks after the destruction, terrorists planted IEDs along the path, killing some staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, who were working to restore electricity and injuring others, including some soldiers.

It was gathered that the two-month blackout was caused by the destruction of some of the towers supplying electricity to the city from the national grid by the insurgents along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road. This brought some set back even to the military in the prosecution of the ongoing conflict in the northeast, Nigeria.
Residents, commending the effort and commitment shown by the staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the military and Borno Government in restoring the light on Thursday said, it would not have been possible without the drive from the men who put their lives on the line to ensure electricity is back in the city.
“All the electricity staff who worked on the line both living and dead deserve commendation, alongside the soldiers providing them security during the work. They even encountered a bomb attack while working to restore the light.
“Our Governor, Babagana Zulum, also deserve special commendation for his contribution to ensure that we get light,” one of the residents, Ibrahim Abubakar told newsmen in Maiduguri.
Another resident, Sadisu Mohammed said, “We really suffered without light in view of the hot weather. We were worried even as the rainy season is setting in. The heat in the night, mosquitos and the high cost of fuel to power our small generators is telling on many families and the Ramadan fasting is also coming.”
Confirming the restoration of electricity in the city, the Corporate Communication Manager of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), in charge of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba States, Mr Kingsley Nkemneme, said since the incident on January 29, all stakeholders had been working to address the problem.

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday, said the Tiv nation in 1804, fought and stopped the Fulani herdsmen from taking over the State.
Ortom who spoke with BBC Pidgin at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi, insisted that they are not afraid to follow the steps of their forefathers.
He revealed that the herdsmen have a hidden agenda that is triggering their desire to flood the State.
According to Ortom, before the enactment of the law prohibiting open grazing in Benue, the Fulani herders were snicking into the State to enslave the citizens and take over the land.

The governor said: “They want to take over Benue and make us slaves. That is what they have been trying since the days of our forefathers.
“Our forefathers stopped them in 1804, they cannot take over our land.
“They are not coming to Benue to graze cattle, they are only using that as a way to gain access into the state.
“God opened my eyes to understand their intentions.
“I cannot be intimidated because no one can kill me, my life is in the hands of God Almighty because I know that I am doing the right thing”.
Ortom also lamented that the deteriorated security situation in the country, particularly the activities of the Fulani herders, is currently beyond the Federal Government.
“The issue is currently beyond the Federal Government and even the President, Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
He, however, said everyone must come together to tackle the challenges confronting the entire nation.

Parents of the 39 abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in the Mando Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have appealed to the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to negotiate with the bandits to secure the release of their wards.
The parents expressed grave worry that over two weeks after their children were kidnapped by gunmen who stormed their hostels, the students were yet to be released.
It was reported that the bandits attacked the school on March 12 and kidnapped 23 female and 16 male students. The gunmen later released a video and demanded N500 million to free the students.
Security forces had also said they rescued 180 of the abductees but 39 students are still in the den of the kidnappers.

Speaking on Thursday, a member staff of the school and a representative of the affected parents, Sani Friday, said the parents are afraid bandits may kill their children if the government deploy force.
He spoke while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme.
Friday, whose two daughters were amongst the students in captivity, appealed to the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to adjust his no-payment-of-ransom stance to facilitate the release of the students.
He said, “It is this state governor who sometimes ago told the entire Kaduna State that if it costs him to pay bandits to stop killing citizens of Kaduna State, he will pay them.
“Now, the state government came out even before the abduction of our students in the Federal College of Forestry that it is wrong to negotiate with bandits and that he is not going to negotiate.
“After that statement, this incident happened and it is based on that statement that the government is standing that it will not negotiate. But he (El-Rufai) made a statement before that he can do anything for the bandits to stop killing, so we want him to do something.
“One of the fears we have is that if the government feels that they can use force to bring out this children, it will be very disastrous because these bandits are well-equipped, they may decide to eliminate the children if they discover that the government is trying to use aggressive force on them because our children are being used as shields.
“The first way we want the government to go about this is to negotiate even if they want to put any other security measure on ground, it should be after the negotiation.”
