If Ekiti election is not properly conducted then there will be no election in 2019”<br /> <br /> Asked about alleged overtures from the camp of the nPDP, to rejoin the PDP, Secondus said everyone, including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki,is welcome to the party and that in any case they are already working together under the grand alliance.<br /> <br /> “Everyone is welcome, it is a large house and you know above all we have a larger gathering; the grand alliance and so we are working together,” he said.<br /> <br /> Asked about the failure to share the federal allocation after three meetings, Secondus said. “You can see how they are running the economy”, to which Baraje added: “it is a sign of failure” before they both went to sit with the Islamic cleric preaching at the venue.

Go and protect your votes.<br /> <br /> “Don’t come back to Ado Ekiti without protecting the ballot boxes they are carting away.<br /> <br /> “Someone they cart away his ballot box should better remain in his community.<br /> <br /> “Armed robber come to your house and you allow him to carry your load away.”<br /> <br /> Governor Fayose voted at his polling unit earlier in the day.

So I’ve been able to cast my vote after being accredited.<br /> <br /> “I’m satisfied, and I want to appreciate INEC for being prompt. I also want to encourage them to find a way out in case it happens to any other person. It doesn’t have to be to the VIPs only.<br /> <br /> “Nevertheless I appreciate their prompt response to this incident.”<br /> <br /> Asked on his expectations, the PDP candidate added: “I’ve said it before, Kolapo Olusola is going to be declared governor-elect by the grace of God.”<br /> <br /> Eleka arrived at his unit at 9:10 a.m. But the card reader failed to verify his PVC. He stood and waited for several minutes without success.<br /> <br /> He stepped out and returned a second time, still the card reader failed to verify him.<br /> <br /> The PDP flagbearer said he was not given assurances that another card reader would be brought.<br /> <br /> He said his wife’s PVC was also not verified by the machine.<br /> <br /> He said: “I’ve just gone in to be accredited and then to cast my vote. But unfortunately after trying for several minutes, I was told that the card reader could not recognise my PVC. I don’t know why.<br /> <br /> “And I’m being told that I am the first person to experience such since they started. I registered in 2014, the same day with my wife. I used it in 2014 to vote.”<br /> <br /> On whether the experience affected his confidence in the electoral process, he added: “I can’t really explain what is happening at the moment.<br /> <br /> “I’m going to wait and find out whether it is only my card that will not be recognised by the card reader and that will be quite interesting.<br /> <br /> “As the gubernatorial candidate of PDP, I am expected to cast my vote, at least to vote for myself. But that does not mean that I have lost confidence in the process.<br /> <br /> “I still believe strongly that by the grace of God I will come out victorious, because I have the people with me.”

She has excelled and she is a very valuable member of this government.<br /> <br /> “But, I think the onus should be on the NYSC since she applied and got a certificate. If that is not contradicted, they should just leave her alone but if it is contradicted, then there would be an issue to consider. So, as far as I am concerned, there is nothing against her right now.<br /> <br /> “Yes, the NYSC should come clean since they have all the records. Let them come out with what they have so that the lady would be able to defend herself if necessary.”<br /> <br /> In a related development, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has urged Buhari to sack from his cabinet anyone found to have forged certificates.<br /> <br /> National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko, made the appeal on behalf of the group in an interview with journalists in Abuja, on Friday.<br /> <br /> According to him, members of the group are worried about the damage being done to Nigeria’s image at home and abroad by the President’s continued silence on cases of certificate forgeries which is slowly becoming a norm rather than the exception among his appointees.<br /> <br /> Onwubiko expressed sadness that the situation was beginning to give Nigeria a negative image.<br /> <br /> He said Buhari administration’s tendency to accommodate persons with questionable academic credentials if left unchecked, would rubbish the national policy on education which as constitutionally enshrined (Section 18 (1)) in the Constitution.<br /> <br /> The human rights activist said, “President Buhari has the task of relieving persons such as his Senior Special Assistant on Prosecution, Mr. Obono Obla, who has been indicted for using a fake West African Examination Certificate as confirmed by the issuing authority which appeared before the House of Representatives recently.<br /> <br /> “We recall that the West African Examinations Council on June 5, 2018, described as ‘altered and invalid’ the results and certificate it allegedly issued to the Chairman, Special Presidential Investigative Panel for the Recovery of Property, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla.<br /> <br /> “WAEC, whilst testifying before the House of Representatives ad hoc Panel investigating Mr. Obono-Obla’s alleged forgery, WAEC Registrar, represented by the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Femi Ola, said available evidence indicated that the results were ‘altered’ and thus ‘invalid’.<br /> <br /> “The current administration must desist from polluting the international image of Nigeria by tolerating many persons of questionable academic credentials who are working in the Federal Government of Nigeria when there are millions of highly qualified Nigerians from diverse fields searching frantically for employments.<br /> <br /> “The silence of the current government to the cacophony of allegations of certificate forgery involving top rated government officials shows that the corporate image of the country is imperiled and if this silence and failure to act persists, then the rest of the world will see Nigeria as a country of certificate forgers.”</div>

Although I appreciate the fact that he respects my brother, Femi Kuti and our family name”. However, she lamented how she lost her initial excitement about the visit due to how she was badly treated by security operatives.<br /> <br /> “I was excited at first but on that fateful day all the excitement died. I understand the security measures that were taken but I didn’t like how it was handled. I was attended to rudely; maybe because I’m not famous or whatever their reasons may have been I don’t know” she lamented.<br /> <br /> Speaking further, she disclosed that Macron’s visit has not paid off on the Anikulapo-Kuti family monetarily.<br /> <br /> “His visit has not paid the Anikulapo-Kuti family monetarily; but I think in the aspect of recognition, yes, it has. Even as everybody pretended like it did not; and when I say everybody I mean the people, not my family because we obviously know and acknowledge Macron’s visit”, she said.<br /> <br /> She added that if her late father, Fela, were to be alive, he would have been excited about the epoch-making event.<br /> <br /> “If Fela were to be alive, he definitely would share in the excitement. Election is a civil process, so no one will be intimidated.”<br /> <br /> In preparation for the election, the REC said necessary measures had been put in place to ensure that there would be no delay in the commencement of the exercise.<br /> <br /> He said, “All ad hoc staff and supervisors moved to all the registration area centres on Friday.<br /> <br /> “By 5am on Saturday (today), the materials and ad hoc staff will start movement to the polling units. By 8am, we will start election.”

Any state election in Nigeria is of interest to us because many states in Nigeria are bigger than many countries in Europe.<br /> <br /> “We want peace to be maintained in Ekiti and we are also maintaining our neutrality in this election. We ask questions about the number of security officers deployed for this election.<br /> <br /> “Let me emphasise on the importance of free, fair and credible election because Ekiti will show the way for February/March elections.<br /> <br /> “This is the best way to secure development, stability and unity in Nigeria. What is good for Nigeria is good for EU and what is good for Ekiti is good for Nigeria.”<br /> <br /> UK High Commissioner Arkwright explained that he had held meetings with the two major candidates in the election and they had given him their commitment to a peaceful poll.<br /> <br /> Arkwright said: “I have seen Dr (Kayode) Fayemi of APC and Prof. Eleka (Olusola) of PDP. This afternoon, we met the police, particularly the DIG. It has been a busy day. We believe that this election should go on peacefully.<br /> <br /> “We want to plead that everybody that is eligible should vote, civil society organisations are here in large numbers.<br /> <br /> “This is a process of deepening democracy in Nigeria because in 2015, we witnessed the transfer of power from one party to another for the first time.”<br /> <br /> US envoy Bray said: “What we want is free, fair and credible election. Nobody slapped him because we saw allegation that the Governor was slapped. What were the ADCs doing, what were the CSOs doing and other security agencies personnel that were with him doing at that point in time?<br /> <br /> “Due to the allegation, those two (ADC and CSO) were invited to Command Headquarters to make statement because the Inspector General of Police after hearing of the accusations which is something that cannot be actualized directed that the matter be investigated and they were asked if they have deteriorated in their duty and why they allowed a governor to be slapped and pushed?<br /> <br /> ”They made statement that nothing like that happened.”<br /> <br /> On why the crowd were dispersed, Moshood said: “The incident that occurred was the one that involved people sharing fuel and we are investigating that.<br /> <br /> ”Why must people be induced with fuel and money? It was the people that could not get the money and fuel that went in there to try disrupt the rally and we tried to disperse them.<br /> <br /> “When they learnt that we were dispersing them with teargas, people left. Also, no individual has reported to police that anybody was killed or missing because of what happened while we were dispersing the crowd. So, to the best of our knowledge, nobody has reported in any Police station that he sustained injury.”<br /> <br /> He also assured residents of a safe and secured environment during and after the election.<br /> <br /> “The bottomline is that we are interested in providing secure environment for this election to hold and the people of Ekiti people are encouraged to continue to embrace peace.<br /> <br /> “The deployment of 30,000 is no doubt to secure them. If you look at the history of election in this country, you would discover that Ekiti State is a flashpoint because some people’s utterances are inciting.”

I am worried because whatever we may think about our problems, my worry is about the youth anger and frustration going into explosion in any of the countries of Africa.”<br /> <br /> He emphasized that “one problem that can consume all of us because it has no religious or territorial boundaries, or ethnic boundary is the youth anger, frustration going into a big explosion in many of our countries on the continent.”<br /> <br /> He urged African leaders to “learn a lesson from the Arab Spring. Demography should not be a disaster. It should be an advantage.”<br /> <br /> African leaders he said “must be realistic and aware of innovations and new technology around them. The present realities of our leaders, some of them who have been in uniform are still there as leaders today. The way they are reacting to issues now is different from when they were in uniform.”<br /> <br /> To check youth restiveness and unemployment in Africa, Obasanjo argued that “if 50% of the population are not educated, trained and given skills to help themselves and the society there is no way that the society can make the needed progress.”

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="987" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGoP4udhiCkW31pggfcZmMZoqElBTXp5xe7sev3_MbBjPN_qc1pQZJl6ZnR7rLmpeBc_f0LYO473OJf4CJyv397Oaz9mTUi4RuajBqCVUMKy_ZZri3Mnk-7CVgDmDZbDpt8eois1T9xEAf/s400/cultism.png" width="400" /></div> <br /> <br /> A 17 year-old Secondary Student in Bauchi, Salihu Yahaya, yesterday narrated how he narrowly escaped the ‘slaughter slab’ of alleged ritual killers in Kano.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, the student said three weeks after the gory incident, he was yet to recover from the trauma.<br /> <br /> According to him, after he was captured and taken to an undisclosed location, he and 18 other victims were dressed in red cloth and numbered, just as the first 16 people were slaughtered in his presence.<br /> <br /> “I was in front of our house in Bauchi at about 12 noon on June 23rd when some two persons in a car stopped and enquired about a bakery very close to our house.<br /> <br /> “I was heading to the bakery house at that time so I volunteered to join them in the car and show them the place.<br /> <br /> “Immediately I entered, I was hypnotized and lost my senses, only to find myself in a compound some hours later, along with 18 others victims, all of us dressed in red material that had been numbered, and our heads completely shaved,” he said.<br /> <br /> Yahaya said at that point, the beheading of the victims began in the presence of all of them.<br /> <br /> “We were watching helplessly as a huge man came along with his other accomplices, tied the hands of the first victim, slaughtered him and preserved the gushing blood in a container.<br /> <br /> “I was number 18 on the queue and when the 16th person was beheaded, the slaughter-man said he was tired, and therefore directed that the three of us remaining be kept in a room till early morning the following day (June 23rd) for him to complete the exercise.<br /> <br /> “At that point, I wished I had my turn that day because the sight was too gruesome and the trauma was too much to bear,” he told NAN.<br /> <br /> However, luck came their way when by 3am of the D-day, the hefty man mandated to keep watch over the three of them complained of headache and went in search of ‘panadol’, leaving the room they were kept, open.<br /> <br /> “The three of us decided to take the chance and rushed out, only to discover that the house was the only structure in a bush and had no perimeter fence.<br /> <br /> “We ran long distances in different directions, until I fell down unconscious, only to wake up later in the day to discover that I was in a police station in Kano.<br /> <br /> “The policemen, who were so nice to me, provided me with food and a place to take bath, after which they collected the telephone number of my brother in Bauchi, which I have, off-hand, and alerted him,” Yahaya further narrated.<br /> <br /> The student, who was still looking scared and had to be persuaded by his brothers to grant the interview to NAN, said the room they were kept was full of human heads and bodies of those slaughtered ahead of them.<br /> <br /> “As I am talking to you now, I am still seeing the face of the slaughter man three weeks after the incident and the scene of the gory happening will remain in my memory for long,” he lamented.<br /> <br /> He said he had not been attending school since his return from Kano because of his state of mind.<br /> <br /> Dr Yahaya Yerima, father of the student, confirmed the incident, but could not grant NAN an elaborate interview on the issue as he was busy preparing for the wedding of his daughter, slated for Saturday, July 14.

He was rumoured to be on his way to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) last month, although he later debunked the claim.<br /> <br /> Together with Suleiman Hunkuyi, another APC senator from Kaduna State, Mr Sani threatened to dump the APC in May. But when our correspondent spoke to him in Ekiti language, he opened up.<br /> <br /> He said his name was not found in the ward list, and that he was directed to another ward.<br /> <br /> Asked how much was being shared, he said: “Some get N2, 000; others get N4, 000” as he hurriedly left.<br /> <br /> A woman was seen telling her friend that without her voter’s card, she would not be given the money.<br /> <br /> A group of four women were seen talking animatedly. Three of them had succeeded in collecting their cash, but the fourth woman could not collect hers because she did not bring her PVC along.<br /> <br /> The other women, while consoling her, said: “After all, you collected rice yesterday. At least you got something.”<br /> <br /> More people soon gathered at the entrance, banging on the gate. They accused those sharing the money inside of planning to pocket what is left. Some shouted: “Ole, ole!”<br /> <br /> A female security guard opened the gate soon after and everyone trooped into the compound, with pushing and shoving. And now the Bill has been taken for the first time.<br /> <br /> ‘’I am sure that as soon as possible, we will take the second reading and probably send it to public hearing through the committee so that we fast-track it as directed by the Senate.”<br /> <br /> According to the bill document, state police will be headed by a commissioner who shall be appointed by the governor of a state on the advice of the National Police Service Commission, subject to confirmation of such appointment by the House of Assembly of the state.<br /> <br /> If the Bill is passed, there shall also be the creation of the National Police Service Commission, which shall be responsible for the appointment of persons to offices (other than office of the Inspector-General of Police) in the Federal Police; exercising disciplinary control over members of the federal police; recommending to the governor of a state the appointment of the commissioner of police, deputy commissioners of police and assistant commissioners of police of the state police, based on a list submitted to it by the State Police Service Commission of the relevant state and subject to confirmation by the House of Assembly of the State”<br /> <br /> The State Police Service Commission shall also be recommending to the governor, the discipline and removal of the commissioner of police, deputy commissioners of police and assistant commissioners of Police of the state police; supervising the activities of the federal police and state police to the extent provided for in this constitution or by an Act of the National Assembly;<br /> <br /> Prescribe standards for all police forces in the country in training, criminal intelligence data bases, forensic laboratories and render assistance to State Police in areas as may be requested by such State Police.”</div>

The arrogant tone of their statement  implied threat  against Igbo lives and businesses in the north, points clearly to an impending hostile response from them, which IPOB is both duty and honour bound not to ignore.<br /> <br /> “We must make it abundantly clear that any attack against Igbo lives and businesses in the north will be met with commensurate response in the south. Threats and large scale invasions of territories in the Middle-Belt may have had the effect of subduing indigenous Tiv resistance to the   hegemonic juggernaut in the Middle Belt and total collapse of morale in the West, given what happened at Ado-Ekiti PDP rally on Wednesday July 11, 2018. It is not about Fayose or Ekiti State, it is about every one of us, if it can happen to Fayose,  it means it can happen to anybody.<br /> <br /> “We should not just look at Fayose today, we should not just look at Ekiti State, let us look at Nigeria. So what is happening? All the Peoples Democratic Party,  PDP governors in the country view this action of the police as an abuse of the constitution of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “Elections will come and go, faces will come and go, but Nigeria will remain. Let us not do something that will bring down this country.”<br /> <br /> The governor enjoined Nigerians to rise in condemnation of the unprecedented police action, and urged the people of Ekiti State not to be intimidated in the face of the challenge.<br /> <br /> He advised security agencies in the country to be civil in their dealings and abide by the law, noting that the country belongs to every citizen.<br /> <br /> He equally advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC not to be loyal to any single individual but to the constitution of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “This cannot happen in any civilized society where a sitting governor with full immunity can be so abused publicly. It is a shame for the whole country,  it is a shame to all of us.  The PDP as a law abiding and peaceful party, does not want to join issues but only interested in winning the election in a free and fair contest,” he added.<br /> <br /> He said his party was ready for tomorrow’s election and called on security agencies to allow the people the liberty to vote for candidate of their choice, noting that the essence of getting power was to help everybody, especially the poor.</div>
